OOOOO that is a neat idea :0
I'm having trouble deciding because on one hand, including lex, ethan, ziggs, deb, and alice would be super cool, but it leaves a gap since there are no canon juniors or freshmen (unless certain background characters are juniors? I'm not familiar with most of them.... or we could always put them in as juniors, like Bee and Cineplex Teen if they aren't confirmed) but on the other, the football team and the cheer squad we have in NPMD would be sophomores, and maybe not on the football team and cheer squad as prominently as they are in NPMD. I could be wrong on this as I'm an art student who goes to a school with over 3,000 other kids, which means I know jack shit about our sports and cheer teams lmao.
And also, suggest clubs to me and what clubs you think characters would be in, because I'd like to have pages for group photos and little articles/interviews for clubs and sports events like they have in real yearbooks.
Here's the Ride the Cyclone yearbook project, which this yearbook would be similar to.

My delulu ass convinced that the numbers Lex, Emma, Paul, Becky, and Tom all say during What If Tomorrow Comes has to do with important characters they’re connected to central to the crash

Thinking about how Matt Lang mentioned rerunning TGWDLM.
Obviously, there'd have to be changes. Not just in the casting, but in every aspect of the show just due to the nature of how Hatchetfield has expanded and how TGWDLM has aged.
Now that we know for sure that the events in TGWDLM happened because of Pokey, I think they'd design the show even more around the colour blue instead of green like in the original promotional material. This also gives Matt Dahan so much more to work with when it comes to underscoring, think of all the motifs he has to sneak into the scenes now.
Hidgens would have to be recasted, and while there's plenty of options, I think after Workin' Boys he has to be played by Jeff Blim. I don't know if anyone can ever top what Jeff did in WB. Of course, that would mean that Jeff's original TGWDLM characters would need to be recasted as well. Mr. Davidson has not been seen in HF since TGWDLM (save for the small BF cameo), so it wouldn't be hard to find someone new for that role. Sam Sweetly is more difficult because of his appearances in Nightmare Time and the pre-recorded NPMD cameo, but it's impossible to have Jeff play both Hidgens and Sam in the same scene so he would still most likely be recasted.
The only Jeff character that would need to stay the same is General John Macnamara, that's another permanently Jeff character, in my opinion. The show would require some rearranging so that the Macnamara and Hidgens scenes weren't back to back this way. Between TGWDLM and BF, Macnamara went through a lot of character development and Jeff really discovered who he was by the second show, so it would be super interesting to see him interacting with Paul again now that we've learned so much more about the guy.
Now that Hatchetfield has expanded so much, I think it would be really fun to bring in new characters that we've met since TGWDLM happened. They should include Curt Mega as Officer Bailey in Show Me Your Hands, since we know he canonically works alongside Sweetly. Bring in James Tolbert during the PEIP scene as Xander Lee. Even just the people on the streets in La Dee Dah Dah Day, imagine the amount of cameos that could come into play there. Kim Whalen dances in as Becky Barnes, Angela Giarratana is Grace Chasity, all these well-known characters that we never saw during TGWDLM before making small appearances as they were already infected by the hive mind.
Speaking of the La Dee Dah Dah Day number, it would be fucking awesome to get Joey Richter back in the Pete Spankoffski costume for the coffee shop scene to do the hot chocolate boy bit.
I also just think a new perspective on the show will change so much of the context. Like Emma discussing Jane, we now know Jane's family with Tom and Tim. We're now very familiar with Ted's little brother, a character we had no idea existed during TGWDLM (think about Ted's little freak out over Alice being dead at Hatchetfield High...). We had no idea that this apocalypse was brought on by one of the Lords in Black.
Anyways. I agree with Matt, they should definitely bring The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals back for another run of the show.

Some little canon tidbits from the 8 hour Nerdy Prudes Must Die livestream that y’all missed/ forgot about:
1. Jane Perkins’ was Linda Monroe’s friend and therapist
2. Jane, Gerald, and Linda all went to U of M
3. Matt Lang refers to himself as the God of the Universe and says Tom and Becky are meant to be together
5. Becky Barnes grew up with a THICK Scottish? Accent.
6. CCRP (Paul, Bill, Ted, and Charlotte’s company) are experimenting on them in order to harness the power of the Lords in Black. They don’t need a tech department… especially not one full of people who are very bad at technology. (For example, Paul 23 and Android Emma in Forever & Always)
7. Paul and Emma will always find each other, even if they’re an identical copy like a robot or a clone.

God, yeah. I don’t think Jane was that great of a partner, really - the line she used to poke at my wounds just to see what I’d say has haunted me ever since I rewatched Black Friday. I’m no relationship expert but that cannot be healthy.
Definitely thinking some uh. Thoughts. About if Jane was always mean and bitchy like she was in JAC. Like, I know Matt pretty much said that her meanness comes from anger of her soul being trapped in the car for a year and a half, but. She was friends with Linda Monroe. It wouldn't surprise me if she secretly lied, cheated, and backstabbed her way to the top.
And it makes Emma and Tom all the more tragic in hindsight. Like, maybe Jane was just as horrible to them but they were never able to piece it together. Emma saw Jane die knowing that she'll never be able to live up to Jane's legacy, even though Jane's legacy was well.. full of shit.
And god, Tom. We see him as such a strong character in BF, but in JAC? When we see him with Jane for real? He just.. submits. He lets himself be gaslit by Jane to the point where he ends up in prison for it. He barely tries to argue. He treats it as.. almost normal.
And god, if Becky knew. She would've recognised the signs of an emotionally abusive partner from Jane and try to reason with Tom about Jane. Because she's lived it. She's lived a life of being gaslit and guilt tripped. She would be the only one able to take Tom away from Jane.
Oh, and if we keep going with this idea, keep in mind that Jane was a therapist when she was alive. Ouch.

Tom Houston, they could never make me hate you Tom Houston. I’m his #1 defender and fan, cause for some reason people genuinely don’t like him and I’ve even seen some people call him bad and I just….how?
What I like about Tom is that when you meet him in Black Friday, at first glance he’s an asshole. He seems very closed off and inconsiderate of other’s people’s feelings. You feel for Emma cause she’s just trying to mend things with her brother in law and you feel for Tim cause he feels left out. But the minute “What Tim Wants”- plays, you immediately see Tom as a whole. He loves his son to death. He loves his wife. He hates himself. He thinks he ruined his families life and that’s why he pushes Emma, the only other family he has left, away. Nick Lang said on Twitter that he also thinks he doesn’t deserve happiness due to this. He’s grappled with so much grief and self loathing, which is probably why Jane’s spirit in Nightmare Time is so gaslighty because he believes he deserves to be treated this way. Not only that but Tom is good with kids. He cares about Tim, he cares about Lex and Hannah. Tom might be a little full of it at times but he’s genuinely a good guy. Also he’s freaking hilarious, Dylan Saunders performance and line reads never fail to crack me up. But with how people speak of Tom, you’d think they never fully watched Black Friday or listened to his songs. He’s such a complex and emotionally distraught character, no one even talks about the fact that he has PTSD from the war AND the crash.
I also saw Hathetfeild fans on my twitter timeline not like Tom Houston anymore because of the car incident. Unpopular opinion but I feel like people take that scene wayyy too seriously. It’s supposed to be so absurd and over the top, a moment to laugh at. On a character perspective, Tom still clearly loves Becky, but we know that he’s constantly tackled with the guilt of what happened to Jane that he’s willing to do anything for her, deep down he still loves her, even if she’s gaslighting him constantly. So yeah Tom Houston get behind me cause they don’t understand you like I do.🤺🤺🤺

Jane's A Car is such a good character study, it delves into Tom's grief and fear of moving on so well and you get such a good sense of how his relationships with Tim, Becky, and Jane respectively influence him in different ways, how they all speak to different parts of him and bring out different things in him
how he misjudges Tim's wants and needs, and is almost scared to give Tim what he clearly actually wants because it means facing things he doesn't feel ready to (very consistent with his arc in Black Friday)
how Becky tries to coax him into letting himself be happy, wants him to be kind to himself, doesn't want him to feel at fault for things that aren't, and tries to help him at every turn because she's already learned this lesson. she's letting herself be happy, and the person she wants to be happy with isn't
and how Jane constantly belittles Tom, talks to him like he's stupid, and guilts him into doing what she wants. he tiptoes to avoid upsetting her and still manages to anyway. he wants her to be happy but nothing is enough
it all informs so much about him so well, his guilt and his desperation to make up for it but every attempt is misguided. him and Emma parallel each other in a few ways and I think it's. SO interesting. parallel opposites. neither of them are as good as Jane was, but Tom shut down when she died, and Emma took action
it's good. good stuff

Lying awake at night thinking about all the potential content a Yellowjacket AU would have.
First off, imagine an AU with all the Hatchetfield teens in Yellowjacket. Lex and Hannah already have the gift, but what about Ethan?? What would his gift be?? What about Tim (I know he's not a teen, but oh well)??
And then when you start thinking about the nerds joining, it gets so much more interesting. Like i absolutely NEED to know what the nerds powers would be. Would Max have a gift??
Like, maybe Max could go absolutely apeshit after losing a match against one of the nerds and then accidentally kill Richie in a match?? And then a really weird version of NPMD plays out??
Just imagine an AU with the Hatchetfield adults aged-down. Like just imagine the love triangle between Tom, Becky and Jane.
And seen as Paul goes to Sycamore, maybe he would be really awkward when he first arrives bc he doesn't know anybody? But he slowly integrates himself into Ted, Charlotte and Bill's friend group. And maybe Emma's in with the more "popular" kids, so Paul's super nervous to talk to her?
And just imagine Girl Jeri and Boy Jerry!! Like, they would be so disapproving of the whole thing even though they're both competitors. And they would try to massively downplay their powers, but they're actually lethal when they work together. Boy Jerry is just slightly (a lot) more deranged.
And there would be so much potential for a brilliant love square (?) between Sam, Charlotte, Ted and Jenny.
I'm not fully sure about Miss Holloway and Duke, but I have three different ideas for them.
They're two adults who work at the rink to try and help the kid cope with their powers.
Miss Holloway is perpetually the same age, and has been a teen there for YEARS. When the new kid Duke joins, he tries to investigate her and figure out the extent of her powers and why she doesn't age. They become close. Infatuation ensues.
Duke is the kid of an audience member and always gets dragged along to watch the matches, and Miss Holloway is a competitor. They start talking and getting to know eachother in-between matches. Infatuation ensues.
I'm gonna be up all night thinking about this istg 😭😭

Hatchetfield Soulmate AU
I've been imagining for fun what each Hatchetfield main couple's soulmate marks could look like. So, each of these characters have a marking/tattoo somewhere on their body that is supposed to represent their soulmate and give them a clue as to their identity.
PAULKINS : Emma has blue music notes on her throat. In this AU, it's the reason why she even got into the theater club in the first place. She hoped to find her soulmate there. But she eventually lost hoped and ditch the town altogether like in canon !
Paul has coffee beans between his collarbones.
Why this placement and why music notes for Emma ? Pokotho wasn't particularly happy at all with this soulmate timeline thing. That was his brothers idea. So, he kind of just made it harder on his prophet, Paul, to even know what his soulmate mark was and wanted to leave him a message. "You might have a soulmate, you're still mine first and foremost"
BARNSTON : Tom has a caduceus on his forearm. Upon returning from the army and meeting Jane, he though it was for her. She was a psychiatrist and the caduceus is the emblem for all medical professions after all. But, nope. It was for Becky.
Becky has a wooden heart locket on her ankle. This is completely because Tom teach shop class and that they were high school sweetheart. Also the fact they've engraved their name in a heart on a seat of the Cineplex.
LEXTAN : Ethan has a beach shore with a palm tree on his neck. This is in reference to California, to all the efforts he does to bring the Fosters to California. They're his California, his everything. He's also their California inside of Hatchetfield.
Lex has an adjustable wrench on her hip. Because he's a mechanist. Yeah, sometimes the reasoning really is that simple 😅
LAUTSKI : Steph has a bow tie on the ring finger. I absolutely though about it because of the finger mustache tattoo trend. That and it fit Laut"If I loved You"ski so much. Her having a really obvious clue but not noticing or being in denial until the end...
Peter would probably have a phone screen on his leg. It is low hanging fruit to give him phone to represent Stephanie but I feel that Tinky would like to keep his mark on the Spankoffskis too. Even if he is less "in your face" than Pokotho. So, a phone screen showing the time kind of work.
Also, if you have any idea for these couples or for others, please share them ! I'd love to hear them 😊

Would this character be invited in a paulkins wedding? (I'm ignoring forever and always just because)
Tom Houston and Tim Houston - they are what rested of emma's family (Jane) so even if they warent in the best terms she would invite them
Emma's parents- she would NOT invite them, because they are probably dead or abusive since she dosen't talk about them AT ALL
Ziggy - Emma probably would already have her pot farm and this is basicly the only canon Emma friend we ever get in the whole Hatchetfield verse series
Professor Hidgens- i think she would get super close to him and invite him out of pity
Linda Monroe- "this dosent make sanse, Emma would 1000% hate linda" well do you think linda Monroe would simplily NOT attend the wedding of the sister of her dead friend? Also she would give some nice gift since she is rich and stuff
Overall Emma would have a very small guest section and she wouldn’t invite a lot of people
PAUL IN THE OTHER HAND!
Paul's family - Paul is a avarege men, he would 100% invite all his biológical family even tho he dosen't like all his family menbers
Bill and Alice WoodWard - that is his BestFriendForever out here! Not only that but Bill is also his best men (Alice was also invited because Bill wanted her there)
Charlotte Sweetly - he thought it would be a nice way to make her more chill and he took pity on her talking about her wedding and she would help them with the preperations
Ted Spankoffski - he did't wanted to invite him but the ted confronted him about it and then he was invited
General McNamara: i think they would be besties in every timeline they meet and i think he would LOVE weddings
Barry Swifty - i just think it's funny that he is there in forever and always and i like to think that he is besties with paukins for some random reason
Mr Davidson- he is 100% scared of his boss and invited him just to keep face
Melissa - i just think it's funny Melissa being there because she canonicly has a crush on him and HATES Emma
Characters that warent invited but are there because they are the + 2 of the people invited
Becky Barnes- Defenily not tom's girlfriend
Deb - bill was NOT happy to having to deal with deb but their relationship is better
Sylvia - she is his girlfriend in forever and always and i want a bill with a good romantic love life sorry
Frank - i shipp him with Barry sorry (jeff and corey have INSANE quimistry)
Pete Spankoffski - he was dragged along because ted wanted to show him how to pick up woman in weddings
The random peep agent that joey played in tgwdlm - okay this is basicly a saf-Hatchetfield oc because of the headcannon that actor joey ritcher have that his character is MacNamara son and i loved it so much so yeah he is there and his name is Owen MacNamara and he has a boyfriend named Agent Curt Mega, sorry

Grace Chastity light of my life <3
Ok, can we talk about Hatchetfield couples real quick? Cause this franchise is on a damn roll. Often I feel like romantic subplots are shoehorned into a story almost out of obligation, but all the couples in Hatchetfield feel so full of life. Emma and Paul¹, Steph and Peter², Duke and Holloway³, they all have such a real sense of new chemistry, and in totally different ways. Even weirder, the couples that are objectively terrible people are equally endearing. Linda and Gerald⁴ are a fucking power couple, Grace and Max⁵ are weirdly perfect for each other. They bring out each other's worst qualities but they clearly also adore each other. And then there are the romances with history behind them, like Lex and Ethan⁶, Tom and Becky⁷, Alice and Deb⁸. Even couples that show up for like .2 seconds are so fun and interesting, like Bill and Cynthia⁹, Kyle and Brenda¹⁰, Ted and Jenny¹¹, even Mary and Noah¹². It's good shit. (Episodes cited because I like making lists)
1 The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Black Friday, Nerdy Prudes Must Die, Forever and Always
2 Nerdy Prudes Must Die, Abstinence Camp
3 Witch in the Web, Killer Track
4 Honey Queen
5 Nerdy Prudes Must Die
6 Black Friday, Yellow Jacket
7 Black Friday, Jane's a Car
8 The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, Watcher World, Killer Track
9 Time Bastard, Forever and Always
10 Nerdy Prudes Must Die
11 Time Bastard
12 Abstinence Camp

Someone might’ve posted about this before, but while i have the persistent brainrot, I wanna ramble about hatchetfield and the perpetual cycle of missed opportunities.
The first couple is pretty obvious: Paul and Emma. They’re two people who don’t get the chance to move past the early stages of a relationship. In TGWDLM, they’ve just gotten on a first name basis, even though he’s a regular and there’s a connection between them. It’s a slow burn that fizzles out because of the circumstances. Black Friday is a bit different because, while they’re not an official couple, Emma cares enough about Paul to bring her to what she thinks is a belated Thanksgiving dinner with estranged family. But that musical ends with everyone being blown to kingdom come, so again, it doesn’t evolve further than being “intimate” with each other. Then, of course, there’s their brief interaction in NPMD which parallels TGWDLM, with an interruption by Officer Bailey. In Nightmare Time, only Paul 23 and Android! Emma have a happy ending, but not without hiccups of course. They seem like an inevitability-pun fully intended-in every universe. Oftentimes, their potential is never fully realized.
Becky and Tom is an interesting couple because they’re the only main pairing that dated and broke up, only to get back together later on. They dated in high school and were pulled apart by circumstance. Tom goes to war, and in the interim, Becky becomes entangled with her abusive husband that keeps them apart even after he comes back. In Black Friday, they reunite, bone in the movie theater, but again, they get fucking bombed at the end. In Jane’s A Car, they actually get to rekindle their relationship, getting to the point that Tom brings Becky home to meet his son. Tim even likes Becky, acknowledging that she can’t replace his mom but she’s a good presence for them both. Unfortunately, Tom’s grief and guilt drives them apart again-pun not intended this time. There could be other worlds where they get back together as well, but that comes after years of heartbreak, trauma, and separation.
Lex and Ethan are interesting because in every world we’ve seen thus far, they start each story in a very committed relationship. We don’t see their beginning stages like the others, so we already know how they are together. This makes Black Friday even more devastating when we watch Ethan die protecting Hannah, and Lex never finds this out. She dies unaware of his fate. Then in Witch in a Web, they’re both in jail after trying to make money to get Hannah out of their neglectful mother’s home. Yellow Jacket is the worst, I think. Because Ethan wants the best for Lex and Hannah, he allows Hannah to take part in the super kid fight club, which accidentally dooms his relationship after they kill Otho and have to go on the run from Charlie. We see him getting her a ring, preparing to propose to her, but he never gets the chance. Lex leaves him behind in Hatchetfield to relieve him of the burden of having to protect her and Hannah. Ethan loves Lex so much that while trying to save her, he loses her.
Finally, our newest and most hopeful addition: Steph and Pete. The babies. We see them first in Abstinence Camp, finding kindred spirits in each other because they see themselves outcasts in their environment. I’d argue this is also true in NPMD. They’re both outliers in their social groups, and connect because of this. In TGWDLM, we can assume they both are infected before ever meeting-the same thing goes for Black Friday. The nice thing about their relationship is, in both Abstinence Camp and NPMD, they end the story in the early stages of their romance, and we can assume it’ll develop further because they both trust each other and have ‘defeated’ the monster. However, they don’t get through it unscathed. Nobody does. But I’ll be optimistic and say they’re the only ones who actually get the happy ending they deserve.
Some honorable mentions:
- Ted and Charlotte, and Ted and Jenny. Ted seems to truly care for Charlotte, and in TGWDLM, he watches her die for her scummy husband. In Black Friday, they’re briefly seen together at the end, but again, BOMB. Then there’s Forever & Always, where it’s revealed Ted is responsible for the death of his one true love, and also his own.
- Linda and Gerald is less subtle, considering they’re both batshit, but their insanity makes them a match made in hell. So, it’s pretty sad when, in Nightmare Time 2, Gerald dies helping Linda become the titular Honey Queen. And, of course, Linda dies in Black Friday while on the phone with him.
- DUKE AND MISS HOLLOWAY. OH BOY DO I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THEM. THE TRAGEDY OF FALLING FOR SOMEONE WHO YOU CAN NEVER SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH BECAUSE BUT YEARNING TO BE IN THEIR LIFE IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. THE PAINS OF BEING IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE THAT YOU NEVER REALLY KNEW, NOR COULD YOU EVER TRULY KNOW HER, BUT YOU LOVE HER REGARDLESS, AND YOULL ALWAYS LOVE HER. PROTECTING THE PERSON YOU LOVE EVEN IF IT MEANS ACCIDENTALLY DAMNING YOURSELF INTO STARTING OVER WITHOUT THAT PERSON. GOD THEY MAKE ME SO SAD

i fully believe that tom and tim houston exist only because the langs wanted paulkins in the start of bf, and they needed a reason. tom adds nothing to the story, tim is on screen for like... 2 minutes max. theyre only there so we could get our normal man x angry barista fix
Black friday was originally written before tgwdlm was
Obviously things can change but I doubt they added all of this plot with Tom, Tim and Becky just cuz Paulkins
And yes I say Becky bc I don't see Tom or Becky existing without the other, not that they absolutely can't have a story without the other or something, just more in the same way of Holloway and Duke, they're characters on their own but they're important to each other's story
Tim? Sure he's not there for long but that doesn't mean he's only there to out Paulkins in, the reason is that Tom and Jane had a kid together and Tom is trying to fix his relationship with that kid after James death
The reason Paulkins were in black friday was because we already knew them and knew about Jane so it was to help introduce us to Tom easily, and yes, to get fans excited about seeing Paul and Emma
Sorry this was just obviously incorrect to me and needed to correct to it, anon you don't have to like Tom and Tim and you can think they're bland characters, but just know that they weren't there just for the sake of shoving Paulkins in there

hello. i have just finished all of nightmare time. buckle up, i have thoughts and spoilers ahead.
just a general statement before opinions are shared: obviously some situations take place in different timelines (like the ape-man vs time bastard), but what do you think happens in the *same* timelines? obviously forever and always and time bastard are the same timeline, but do you think each episode is a different time line? do you think it depends? as i’m typing this, i think each episode of nightmare time is a different reality, let me know your thoughts!
okay, starting from the very beginning with ape-man:
i thought ape-man was a good intro to what should be expected of nightmare time. i thought the “ape-man” being a set-up between ted and hidges was funny. i loved that lucy ended up actually meeting the real ape-man in the end. i didn’t really care for the ape-man *song*, and after finishing the rest of the episodes, it was a forgettable episode as a whole, but again, great intro to the idea of what nightmare time is.
watcherworld:
i love alice and bill, so i enjoyed this. watching nightmare time *after* nerdy prudes must die helped me be more excited about the introduction of the rest of the lords in black (because i somehow avoided spoilers for THAT long). that father-daughter relationship was so well put together. i love the blinky song, didn’t care for snoozle town (however, it did sound like black friday, the song, which might not have been intentional, but i’m gonna pretend it was to appreciate jeff blim lmao), as i’m typing this i don’t really remember one thousand eyes, so…i guess it wasn’t memorable? overall, i liked the generally positive ending and bill and alice establishing they will change their ways to help their relationship. love love love.
forever & always:
loved this episode. paulkins till i die fr. i was damn near fucking crying during the opening scene, i shit you not. (side note: i have recently developed the biggest soft spot for paulkins after reading the most incredible fan fiction, probably ever, forelsket by gooddaysunshine on ao3, which i qualify as canon now.) the song forever & always is definitely in my top five nightmare time songs, i just love it. i was totally shocked when paul killed the real emma, up until he revealed he was also a clone/not the real paul, so respect ig. top tier nightmare time episode.
time bastard:
the song time bastard is also in my top five nightmare time songs. kim whalen plz sing me to sleep. the song really set my expectations high because of how good forever & always was, but i was really let down. the revelation of tinky wasn’t as direct or nuanced as blinky and i thought the plot was really slow UNTIL the last ten minutes when everything looped (i love a fuckin loop). making ted the homeless man was truly an incredible plot twist, which makes me sad that wasn’t reflected during the rest of the episode. also peanuts is hilarious.
jane’s a car:
i love tim and sue me for being a barneston shipper. did NOT like jane, did NOT like the plot of tom fucking a car, that got a little too unhinged for even me. the song jane’s a car has been stuck in my head since before i even saw the fucking episode, i could not tell you how many times i have just yelled “GOT MY FOOT ON THE GAS” in the middle of conversations. that being said, the rest of the song was forgettable which upset me! i didn’t enjoy this episode, aside from the mention of the black book on the radio and the twist at the end where it’s revealed jane did take over becky.
the witch in the web:
first of fucking all, kendall nicole is a gift to this earth. that child is incredible beyond compare. protect her forever. second of all, i can’t really remember the plot of this episode, but i do know that i liked the story? not enough to remember it though? this is definitely a middle ground episode for me. i didn’t particularly enjoy either song, but i didn’t hate them. i liked the plot of miss holloway taking hannah into the black and white and travelling through time (kinda), and i liked the overall theme of webs to introduce webby.
honey queen:
the song honey queen didn’t do much for me, neither did latte hatte, or nibbly ditty. if this was any other circumstance i would’ve also added queen b to the list, but i saw it in the jangle ball before this and that made me enjoy it, but if i hadn’t seen jangle ball, just know, i would not have liked queen b. that being said, i did like this episode. i am not a linda monroe stan (sorry), but i do think she’s funny. i thought the kids were funny, i wanted to punch zoey in the face, sam gave me the ick, gerald is a fucking freak, i have never wanted to throttle jon matteson until i watched this (i forgot his character’s name), so all in all, none of these characters are likable at all except for river, but that’s the monroe’s for you. the episode was slow, but in the way a slow burn in slow. once again, liked the introduction of nibbly, and i think having the first episode *be* the honey queen festival was super important to the rest of the season because they never shut the fuck up about it after this (this is another reason why i think each episode is it’s own universe but i disgress). if that confused you, i *did* enjoy the episode, but it was another middle-grounder for me.
perky’s buds:
liked that emma got to start her pot farm. overall have nothing of value to say about this one. joey as the bird was really fucking funny. i like jae. love emma forever, that freak. this episode was really slow and not at all in a good way. i did not like the song perky’s buds. just wanted the episode to end. sad face.
abstinence camp:
this is probably my favorite nightmare time story. the song axe-man is definitely number one on my list (we’ll talk more later). the plot of this one was SO good and funny and creepy and everything hatchetfield is about. my main love for this episode stems from the introduction of our three lead nerdy prudes must die characters. i love those three freaks. steph and peter almost getting in the same shower went fuckin crazy and i was kinda glad they got caught lmao. the plot of girl jeri and boy jerry was too fuckin good, and i will say, i was a little confused why the axe-man never showed up to kill them when they were very obviously horny, BUT IT’S ALMOST LIKE THAT WAS THE PLOT HAHAHAHAH. also, love the return of plot and lore about the woods, seriously, needed that. also also, jon matteson and kim whalen should be paired up more because they’re both so fucking funny and have the capability of being charming yet ever so slightly off-putting and i fucking love it. virginity rocks is a fuckin banger (heh), but the real star of the show is axe-man. let me tell you why axe-man is the best nightmare time song: not only does it introduce the axe-man (who we have been seeing and hearing THE ENTIRE SEASON, mind you), but bryce charles is singing?? i literally don’t know what else you need to hear from me?? corey dorris in a flannel will forever change my brain chemistry and they both sound so good together, truly, and corey dorris is a baritone legend (i’m looking at *you*, corey singing the hidden baseline in high school is killing me). “his blade is made of hate” sounds damn near EXACT to “you better hope you’re outta sight” (literal monster). “oh the pain” sounds damn near EXACT to “it ain’t great” (hatchet town). MOTHERFUCKERS. WHEN THE BRIDGE STARTS “these woods belong to him…” THE FUCKING HATCHET TOWN MOTIF IS LITERALLY FUCKING PLAYING LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? also, just the fucking end that proves ur dead?? please. jeff blim. here, have some flowers. i will do anything for you. anyway. great episode. love it. 10/10.
daddy:
i liked that we gave frank some backstory and gave him a little more humanity because i really did not like that motherfucker (heh) in black friday. the plot with sherman was VERY funny and him turning into a child is kinda cute tbh. sheila u bitch, u let barry swift out of there!! i will forever be a man in a hurry fan, even after death 😭. yes take this psycho’s money and make your family’s toy store better and pay your one employee a living wage!! we love to see it. i don’t even remember the song young at heart, so that should tell you enough about how much i didn’t like it lmao. i had been waiting to see those care bears because i fucking knew they were going to be the lords in black plushies after i saw what colors they were. nick lang, you sneaky bastard.
killer track:
finally learned the tea about miss holloway and yes it was worth it. yes, i do realize why everybody loves duke and miss holloway now, hell, i love em now. miss holloway’s plot is crazy and if there’s another nightmare time season i hope she gets another episode, honestly. i like run away with me as a song in general, but for the genre of artist miss holloway is painted to be, the song is lackluster. I DO LIKE IT THOUGH BUT I WAS EXPECTING IT TO BE MORE ROCK AND ROLL. i do realize it is a ballad, but even rock and roll ballads go harder than that did. killer track is a fucking rager???? jeff blim what are you doing writing musical theatre songs???? go write some fucking grunge shit???? killer track goes so fucking hard i really can’t explain it, jesus christ, also the video was sick as shit, do more!! (this really just proves jeff can write anything lmao) i thought the nightmare time remix was really funny and fun and just a good time, no notes, joey slayed the house down boots honey mama.
yellow jacket:
i liked the vibe of the song yellow jacket, very avril lavigne. loved the plot. loved the reprise of lex opening the wiggly box x opening the pokey box. i love the idea that there are multiple kids like hannah in hatchetfield and that would be a GREAT plot to expand upon more, however, i like that hannah and lex got out of there, but i felt so bad for ethan :( i wonder if he had proposed to lex that morning if she had said yes and not left or if she had taken them with him ugh i hate not knowing. my favorite thing about the hatchetfield universe is that they just keep pumping out these stories and plot lines that confirm these things are canon in at least one universe. i love knowing as much as possible and that’s what nightmare time has given me, ily girl. sorry went on a tagent and didn’t finish: didn’t like use it or lose it, i didn’t like next time, but i thought it was sweet 🥺 they’re all such cuties. ALSO!! the general john mcnamara cameo in this episodes them song KILLED ME i SCREAMED!! he’s literally my favorite. if they continue with a season 3 i hope to fucking god they give my man his episode god dammit. bonus, hey melissa: that shit was fucking weird and i hated that paul sided with her in the end that creep. anyway, thank you for coming on this journey with me, i hope you liked my notes, i love a discussion if you would like to comment. <3

I know the Langs don’t do filler type writing but, am I the only one who would kill for a hatchetfield filler episode, where we can just see the characters in their normal everyday lives without bad shit going down constantly lol. Like I want to see how Lex, Hannah and Ethan live together and bond, I want to see Tom Houston coaching the nighthawks team and see him teach shop class, I want to see Jane Perkins and Linda interact since they canonically knew each other, I want to see more of Jane with Emma as well, or Paul and Emma having a date night. There’s like, so much stuff you can do and show, like more of the Spankoffski bros interacting, Tom and Becky high school flashback, how Lex grew up with Pamela, HARD on the flashback stuff like we need more flashbacks in this series. Okay I’m rambling but in general Hatchetfield anime beach episode when?
