I know some people gonna hate me for this but
✨unpopular opinion time✨
leave if you worship the barbie movies cause I’m about to say some sh-t about one
the princess and the pauper is bad
even stories inspired by it are bad
and I don’t mean in the story or movie is bad
I mean the trope
the trope is god awful
because we have two individuals right
one is poor and hardworking and tries their best to live their life even when it’s hard
the other is a princess/prince that does nothing but read books dance in their castle and sing about how hard their life is and maybe goof around sometimes
like I don’t doubt being royalty is hard because I’m sure it is
but they never show it like they have them say they just wanna be a normal person and have just one day to be
but you never show why!
so how can I sympathize with this seemingly whiny person who looks like they’re complaining about being privileged
this is where the saying show don’t tell would be great
show how much they struggles with their royal duties
show how miserable they are not being able to be themselves
show how exhausted and stressed they are being royalty
then maybe I’ll sympathize with them
but no instead we get this whiny person who complains about not being like the standard royalty
and then we have the pauper
this poor person who’s just trying to get by
who probably barely has enough money to treat themselves to anything
who works day in and day out for barely enough
who struggles probably everyday
and yet still has a smile on their face
and then this weirdo comes around like we’re kinda similar aren’t we…..let’s trade🤪
like that is the weirdest conversation to ever have
like I don’t blame the pauper for wanting to be royalty if I was poor person I’d take that opportunity too
do you know how much power and privileges theyd get by faking being the princess/prince
like it’s genius
and the princess……who just ruins their whole life cause they don’t know what the f-ck they’re doing because oh yea THEYRE A ROYAL PERSON WHO HAS NEVER HAD TO WORK IN THEIR ENTIRE LIFE
but when your older you realize how selfish and childish the royal is for giving away something that people fight and wish to have and you realize how desperate the pauper must be to accept an offer like that so easily and how easily they could be killed/locked up if found out
idk I think I just hate this trope cause it doesn’t make any sense
feel free to argue with me if ya want
idc

tbh i think the funniest phenomena that's been happening in the last couple years is "youtuber, having gone too deep into the research hole, has been made an investigative journalist against their will"

a man self immolated in front of the israeli embassy in washington dc yesterday. not just any man. an active member of the us air force. he live streamed his death, and said that he refused to be complicit in a genocide any longer. he said that compared to what palestinians were facing every day, setting himself alight was nothing.
let me reiterate. an active duty air force member burned himself alive because he was so disgusted by what the us government was openly supporting. he live-streamed his own suicide, so the whole world could bear witness as a man in his military uniform set himself on fire to protest his government’s complicity in the horrors that we have all been forced to watch happen in real time. he became a new horror. footage of the immolation blurs him out the moment the fire catches, but you can hear him. it is over in seconds, really, but you can hear him screaming. he shouts “free palestine” until his body physically cannot make any sounds other than guttural screams of agony. and then he falls silent. a police officer arrives and points a gun at his still burning body, shouting at him to get down on the ground. and it is over.
his name was Aaron Bushnell. he was twenty five years old. and he isn’t here anymore because the political ruling class has decided that genocide is perfectly fine as long as it preserves imperialism. in the coming days, people will try to discredit him. to say that he was mentally unstable. they will try to bury his actions to save face and defend israel’s propaganda. do not let them. aaron knew what he was doing. he knew what he was doing when he put on his military uniform, set up his twitch stream, and made his final walk up to the embassy. he knew what would happen to him when he flicked that lighter. do not let them forget. aaron’s blood is on the hands of the political ruling class.

watching bridgerton and obviously there were a lot of things wrong with the way socializing has worked in the past, but honestly the idea of a "calling hour" is so appealing. office hours for friendship. you can show up unannounced at my home between 1 and 3pm. you must leave by 3pm. I may give you a pastry. lets bring that back

QUICK REMINDER
In the US: threatening government officials is a felony under federal law (the president in particular is protected under 18 U.S.C. § 871). Even memes.
be careful with your jokes if they spill over to active officials.

Really says something about the dire state of offerings for men interested in sewing their own clothes that even searching things like "interesting men's clothing patterns" brings up articles with links to four or five whole websites that primarily offer admittedly nice but practically identical patterns for making button-ups and work pants and maybe a varsity/bomber jacket if you're lucky.
(Branching out into historical costuming for everyday wear is like your one shot at variation, and even then, the ratio of men's to women's patterns on every website is frustrating to say the least.)
Patternmakers as a trans man I am begging you. Give me a little more to work with here.

"life doesnt get better, you just get stronger" does NOT include ages 11-17. life does in fact just get better from there. those years are dogshit. like, you do get stronger but its mostly just a factor of not being 11-17 anymore. positive thinking helps but it doesnt fix whatevers going on at 15, you have to brute force through that one raw

White people are miserable, racist losers period. They’ve even been getting mad at Japanese people for correcting them about Yasuke as well.

I was walking out of the Walmart today, and a car passed me, and I got this incredibly vivid impression. It wasn't really in words, but if I had to put it into words, the two key points would be
a). I needed to watch that car and
b). That I needed to be careful, because the driver of the car was a massive bitch.
It kind of took me by surprise, because I really had no reason to be beefing with that car, and I also hadn't really had an impression like that since I was religious, which was in my teen years. Right? It'd been a decade since I had a little voice whisper in my ear, and I'd basically written it off as nonsense.
Anyway, I watched the car, because The Spirits or whatever were very insistent that I did. Car drove fine, went into the parking spot, inched forward, and right when it should've just stopped, the driver gunned it for some reason and it ran into the curb and cracked its bumper.
So, the driver got out, and she went to the front of the car to check that yes, she had cracked her bumper, and then she turned to look at me. The parking lot wasn't empty, but we were the only two people standing in that row, and I'd probably been staring at her for tenish seconds now.
She demanded very angrily to know why I hadn't warned her of the curb. And I could have said I didn't know you were about to gun it or is it my job to help every stranger park, or even could you have even heard me, inside your car?
And all of those would have been fine, but I was really, really busy digesting that I had somehow communed with Mormon Jesus again for the first time in fifteen years, and that the communion had mostly been there to let me watch someone park badly (?), so what I responded with was:
"Because it was foretold."
And I can't tell which would be funnier, if she went silent because there's not much to be said to that, or if she went silent because in Utah, she might actually believe me, but we parted ways without more words.
I'm still kind of digesting this myself, actually.
