Someone called Bill Cipher and Ford Pines a doomed soulmates pairing and I haven't been able to stop thinking about that.

Being doomed soulmates, to me, always felt intrinsically tragic. One of the few examples I could think off hand are Achilles and Patroclus, two people loved each other so much but they weren't destined for happiness. Greek heroes 99% of the time never are. Soulmates as a trope is defined in someone being destined to end up with their perfect match.

That's why Bill and Ford being doomed soulmates is so utterly fascinating. BillFord is probably the most anti-romantic pairing Gravity Falls (show) could honestly conjure. So much of that pairing is built on manipulation, lies and transaction. Bill is using Ford to get into the a physical realm so he can rule it, while Ford is idly using Bill to learn more things about the unnatural side of the world. So those two being soulmates on any level is going to be anything but healthy. I mean, even in the show, Bill tortures Ford for information.

Furthermore, it can be used in such fascinating theories and AUs. When we read the story as them as explicit doomed soulmates, while pairing information we have from the show and fandom theories you can bring to life fun concepts.

When the show was airing, there was a theory post-ATOTS that Blendin Possesed By Bill had messed with Ford's project to further ruin it than Stan had. Which is why it looked more damaged coupled with the "Blendin was here" with a triangle right there in the episode. So what if it was Bill that ruined the project? That would make the Stan Twins fight and go their separate ways, while this intentionally led Ford right down the path to meet Bill eventually in Gravity Falls. The path that eventually lead to their partnership, Ford being pushed into the portal, 30 years trapped in the Dream Dimension, and later, Bill's defeat.

And that's just one idea I came up for some random fanfiction floating in my brain. The reason I even like that particular concept is that it does more than absolve Stan of wrongdoing, but rather shows you how twisted Bill Cipher could be. There's more you can do with it. Doomed soulmates destined to find each other, and destined to ruin each other. Bill being half the reason Ford was pushed through portal or how he let Ford go insane through fear while Ford being a part of the Cipher Zodiac that could vanquish Bill or using the memory gun on Bill to erase him from existence.

It's so interesting because even if BillFord isn't my ship, you can unpack so much through their dynamic through this lens. Like what makes them click together and what drives them apart.

You guys might have already realized all this, but I just needed to get this off my chest. Finding out more about Bill and Ford's relationship has altered me on a fundamental level. Doomed Soulmates is actually the most appropriate way to define it. How else would you define it?

I see alot of people being like billford is toxic and it is but personality that's not what I find most compleing about it. I love when 2 fundamentally incompatible characters fall in love it's so good and yes pre break up Ford was head over heels for the triangle. Like Bill's toxic but in the way villains always are that a certain breed is into the possessive exotical stuff but not Ford, Ford HATES that shit. On ford's account he dosnt have any clue what a healthy relationship is but he has that tisum style moral code he'll never let go of. For them to have stayed together one would have had to fundamentally change and that's so tragic chiefs kiss.

Possessed Ford should be referred to as Bord whenever people aren’t shipping the abuser with the abused.

Because the thing is, if I see a post tagged “BillFord/Billford” my assumption is that the blog ships Bill with an unwilling Ford.

This is not cute. This is not romantic. And this is not “hot”.

It’s abuse. It’s tragic. It’s traumatic. Ford talks to Bill with an harsh tone because he knows Bill wants to hurt him and kill any random innocent people around. Ford is afraid of Bill, but still willing to get talk back to his face. And he gets more abuse for it during Weirdmaggedon.

That’s not “oh, he secretly likes Bill back” it’s “ I’m trapped with the demon that ruined my life and wants to kill everyone in my dimension. I have to stand my ground.” I don’t understand why people think this ship is okay, genuinely.

Did you know there’s a fanfic where Ford re-summons Bill using demonic magic, for the sole purpose of torturing him back? Something Ford would never do because A. His family got put in danger, B. He was trying to kill Bill canonically, and C. It would spit in the face of Stanley’s sacrifice and memory loss.

But you wanna know why the fic was written? BillFord. Bill was into being abused back, and Ford eventually reciprocated. I don’t think I need to explain why that’s completely vile.

Ford deserves to move on from his abuser after his death, not be character assassinated for the sake of a gross fanfic.

In any case, BillFord in the tags is one of my personal red flags, so I block blogs if I see it. Because even if there’s a chance that the author meant Bord/possessed Ford, I don’t want to run the risk of it being this disgusting “ship”.

The same goes for BillDip, but the difference is that Bipper is the name for possessed Dipper and is widely used to show the art is not shipping. So for the sake of anyone who genuinely doesn’t ship Bill and Ford, I think Bord should be used the same way.

So yeah. Sorry if I blocked a non-shipping post tagged BillFord, but that’s a practice I’m going to stick to. Because I don’t support toxic ships, especially if it’s pairing a victim and their abuser.

Hey guys. Seeing a LOT of ship discourse on my fyp. Feel like I should take a moment to talk about that (specifically in the context of my au).

I have a lot of words to say about this but I'll try and keep it brief. But there's a cut here anyways, because I know I'll start rambling.

TLDR: I don't really care what you personally are shipping. However in the context of my AU you should be warned, there IS some billford—coded stuff (plus some fordford).

Not even coded, actually. Bill wants ford so bad.

But he's not gonna get with him because Ford hates his freaking guts (and he just didn't notice during the Worship Years™).

There may be some comments about it in the future (because not even I am immune to triangle fucker jokes) but it will never be romantically reciprocal between them! Bill was and still is abusive, and also Stan would shake sense into Ford if he ever considered getting with him.

additionally I will NOT get into heavy dark topics like sexual assault or noncon. It does not need to be here. It will not be made by my hand. So bill is obsessive but his threat is just plain violence (and psychological torture. Y'know. Normal bill things).

This AU will not have a heavy focus on romance (I'm not too interested in it, honestly) and instead be more about. Y'know. Ford and Stan's misadventures.

HOWEVER! There may in fact be fordford!! because they're great in a mutally-assured-destruction kind of way :D

Post-portal it'll be. Hm. A bit tragic. But it'll be there! Yippee!! (← with the expression of a madman)

And, y'know, I'll flesh out any relationships over the course of this blog running.

Stan will not have any romantic escapades because he's sharing his brother's body and I didn't know how to do that without making myself feel weird about it.
