a bit of a late response but pls forgive me i had to think!! i'm gonna try and think of costumes all my fav pjo characs would have done, just for fun...

starting out with connalia (ofc): thalia would grudgingly go along with connor's idea of a costume. i'm thinking they definitely go as something scary, my first thought was ghostface (thalia) and tatum (connor) LOL but i could also see them going as sweeney todd and mrs lovett!! or ramona and scott pilgrim given my current obsession with them lmao

percabeth are too perfect to NOT go as flynn rider and rapunzel. like... come on. idc if someone's gonna have to push and shove annabeth but 100 percent they're literally them. ORRR they would go as babs and dick/oracle or batgirl and nightwing!!! because they're literally them!!!

the aphrodite cabin goes as winx club :) silena as flora, drew as musa, piper as aisha, valentina as stella, and lacy as tecna. they make mitchell go as bloom.

Are there any rarepairs you’re surprised a lot more people don’t ship

That's honestly something that could be said about every non canon pjo ships because this Fandom is one of the only ones I ever came across of that cares so little about non canon ships. Percabeth being the main reason why seeing how much it is adored. So really, beside maybe Jeyna and Perachel, no non canon ship has its own subpart in the fandom. (And those two ships are still not shipped enough when compared to other fandoms). You have some ships that are often more used for fun (like Jercy) or are basically Canon for the fandom (Ruegard, Blitzstone, Tratie and Zartemis) but even those are rare to see in fanworks.

Which is crazy knowing the cast those books have and the possibilities coming with it. Percabeth blinded people to so many ships like Grovercy, Pipabeth, Clarabeth, Perleo, Percalypso, Thaliabeth, Reynabeth and more. SOLANGELO blinds people, just because Nico was put in a relationship right after his coming out, therefore barely anyone has the taste to talk about Valdangelo, Ethico, Percico (who gets rarer and rarer) and other ships.

That's kinda sad. I'd say for me the biggest losses are Valdangelo, Grovercy, Reynachel, Perleo et Thaloe. Just because they're archetypes that are very often shipped in other fandoms and are blatantly ignored in this one.

Yes this is the “longass post” I mentioned in my previous Tratie HoO post hgjkfsh I decided to publish it and see what y’alls think!

Anyway, I saw this post, like...a week ago?? And all of a sudden, everything related to the HoO series that I’ve held back just came charging full-force. So I’m here to grace y’alls with my ideas and thoughts about HoO.

Honestly, if I talked abt everything that went off-kilter in that series, we’d be here all day, so I’ll just stick to the mere basic point that was also the basis of my HoO conceptual rewrite idea, and that point is...

Percabeth shouldn’t have been a part of the Seven.

Yeah yeah, half of you guys must be throwing stones at me, the other half is probably nodding in agreement. But seriously, Percabeth already had their time to shine--they had an entire five hecking books, they ( and their characterizations ) definitely do not need another five more, yeesh! I love Percy and all, but pls, five more books in which his and Annabeth’s and their relationship’s character were diminished? Yeah, no thanks. 

I love Percabeth, but in HoO, they became so...bland??? Idk how to properly explain it, but I didn’t like what happened to their character arcs at all lmaoo

But then, I got an idea: what if, instead of Percabeth, it was TRATIE who was a part of the Seven, instead? 

Now this idea was inspired both from the post mentioned above plus another post that talked abt Tratie as a part of the Seven in a bit more detail, which I cannot find no matter how many times I scoured the rr-crit tag ( smh, if anyone else knows of this post, pls lmk and link it, I’m sorry 😭 )

And yeah, I know a lot of ppl have been hopping on the ‘Nico & Reyna as part of the Seven’ train when it comes to making HoO rewrites, but see, hear me out, just think about the potential of Travis Stoll and Katie Gardner--two children of minor gods--getting their spotlight in a series of their own ( plus more indirect spotlight on the minor gods in question ) plus a slowburn ( kinda ) relationship?? Heck, I already have some ideas for this, that I’ll jot down below the cut along with some conceptual ideas about the rewrite. If any of y’alls end up reading this whole post, can you...just, idk, lmk whether it’s a solid plan and if I should actually take it forward and plan on writing it? Bc I’m being rlly indecisive rn ahaha 😅

So. Tratie instead of Percabeth. Let’s take a closer look at the potential:

Honestly, I hate to admit it, but Percabeth didn’t do much to the plot as a whole, so it wouldn’t make much of a difference if they’re taken out. Though there are some things they did to move the plot forward, although little, and that’s what I’ll touch on before I discuss Tratie in general:

( oh yeah, disclaimer: I read the HoO series about five years ago?? I’m trying ( key word: trying lmao ) to reread the series currently, but it’s just not sticking lmfao. Probably the main reason why I wanna rewrite it so badly, other than the two posts that boosted my inspo )

--> THE ATHENA PARTHENOS: Annabeth went on a solo quest in MoA to track down the Athena Parthenos bc it was crucial to sealing the rift between Greek and Roman. BUT, any other demigod could go on that same quest instead of her. Like Piper, whose mother had told her that she was essential to sealing the rift but never ended up doing anything for it bc RR just...flopped idk; or someone like Leo who has similar abilities as Annabeth and would be able to outsmart Arachne in a similar fashion as well; or even Reyna could come earlier than she did in the series and work with the Seven or some of them to track down the statue? Idk, there are lots of options, tbh, there’s honestly not that much relevance to Annabeth being the daughter of Athena so she has to track down the Athena Parthenos. I mean, sure there was the Arachne ordeal, but other than that, nothing major rlly happens

Percy, himself, didn’t rlly...do much for the entire series, other than fight. I mean, there were some minor aspects of HoO where his powers or relations to other characters vibed well, so we’ll check those out:

--> KANSAS: In MoA, Jason and Percy fought each other bc they were forced to. That could easily happen even without Percy. Instead, of Percy, it could be Hazel and Jason fighting each other due to their connections as the Big Three children being taken advantage of. It could be sort of like a mirage of Thalia and Percy’s fight back in TTC. Plus, again, it gives way for more bonding and discussion after between two other characters that never got much interaction time together in canon

--> KYM AND POLYBOTES: okay this is the scene that takes place in BoO where Percy and Jason face off against Kym and Polybotes. But, Percy...does literally nothing here other than get poisoned lmao. It was Jason who did the heavy-lifting bc Percy got a t a d bit arrogant, thinking he was invincible underwater. So honestly, you could take out Percy and replace him with another member of the Seven (who would seem reasonable, in the context, so no Piper or Annabeth or Leo, etc bc none of them can survive even a minute under the water and doesn’t have a way like Jason to breathe). Tbvh, I can see Frank and Jason go together to face Kym and Polybotes. Frank can shapeshift into a sea-creature while Jason can use his ventus vacuum thingie, so it all works out, and nothing too drastic is changed! 

There’s probably a couple more of little scenes where Percabeth was mostly significant in some way to the series, but let’s be very honest...there weren’t a lot of them. So long story short: if you want to, you can easily take out Percy and Annabeth from the series and replace them with another pair and it wouldn’t be the end of the world, lmao.

Now onto Tratie ideas in relation to if they were a part of the Seven instead. Here are some bullet-points of some ideas that I thought of:

It could be a lovely parallel, where when Jason woke up, all he could remember was Thalia, so when Travis wakes up, all he remembers is Connor, his younger brother. I think it would be nice bc it shows that not everything has to be romantically coded like how Percy only remembered Annabeth in canon. It would emphasize Travis and Connor’s sibling bond more so, and I can just imagine Connor giving Travis reuniting noogies and trying not to burst into tears in MoA, and Travis whispers something like “you’re here” and the floodgates open, and it’s just crying and hugging and the like 😭😭

Katie is a daughter of Demeter, so she would have a somewhat connection with the Earth aka Gaea, hence there is now a plausible reason why Gaea would want to spill her blood to rise. Also, when the time comes to defeat her, instead of charm-speaking her to sleep or whatnot, Katie could be a significant crux to the primordial’s defeat bc her powers tie in with the land/earth, so she could use her powers to forcibly push Gaea back into the earth.

 Instead of them going to Tartarus, they end up going to Cupid (so some other pair will fall into Tartarus instead), and instead of a stupid forced outing, Cupid takes one look at them, senses their underlying emotional tension and goes “oh boy, yeah, you two have a lot to talk about” and actually (tries to) help guide the two into confessing the feelings they’d hidden, instead of being a little shit like in canon. Plus I just adore the idea of Travis calling Katie “flower” after they get together, and Katie calling him “key” not just bc he steals stuff but also bc he’s like the key to her heart and all that sappy bs, I literally love them sm 🥺 literally such wonderful nickname opportunities that have a deeper meaning

Travis and Jason might have a subtle rivalry, but unlike Percy and Jason’s weird ‘I’m stronger than you’ thing, it could be bc Jason felt a bit jealous of how everyone was looking for Travis, including his sister, while no one pulled much of an effort to look for him? It’d give an opportunity for them to talk things out and end up growing closer after talking

Juno/Hera saw Travis’s need, his desire, to redeem the Hermes name and as a result, used that fire to kickstart her plan by plopping him in Camp Jupiter while Jason got switched to CHB. Hence there is now a reasonable concept as to why the switch happened, because honestly, the whole Percy-Jason switch didn’t make all that sense bc Jason, yes I can sort of understand why he got switched, but Percy?? There was literally no solid reason that was explained as to why he was chosen to be switched lmao. But with Travis, Juno/Hera takes pity on him and uses this as an opportunity for him to bring glory to the Hermes name after the Titan War

I have a ton more ideas for the rewrite as a whole tbvh. Stuff relating to ways Gaea could actually be defeated, more on Octavian’s backstory and why he hates the Greeks so much, and other tiny scenes between the demigods that could bring about more characterization and details to their arcs.

The only problem is...with the way this is going in my head, I think things might end up diverging more or less from canon as the series progresses? Like there will obv be the canon scenes, but there might also be non-canon scenes that might change the series plot a little bit?? And idk how many of y’alls will appreciate that lmao ghjksfgh but I have started writing it. It’s a super long process lmfao, so idk when I’ll publish it (probably on Ao3, if I do), but I just wanted to let y’alls know bc a lot of you guys liked my first post abt this and I saw your lovely tags and it made me super happy and honestly, those tags are the reason why I even started writing this in the first place! The PJO fandom and how it treats non canon ships

Don’t get me wrong I like the PJO fandom but can everyone stop being so toxic about ships?

In most fandoms non canon ships are very popular but in the PJO fandom anything non canon is basically a rare pair and people says it’s bad.

Sure there are a few non canon ships that contradict canon most people are cool with but most of them get called ‘toxic’ or ‘bad because it would never work’

Then non canon ships like tratie that don’t contradict canon are treated as fine and people say they are basically canon even though some other ships that do contradict canon have more evidence to suggest a possible relationship and interact more.

Let’s look at an example: Perachel. I don’t ship this but if you do that’s fine. The problem is so many fans act like those who ship it are evil because they don’t ship Percabeth. If people don’t ship the same ships you it’s fine even if you don’t see it.

If someone ships a non canon ship they are aware it isn’t canon but they still think it could work so please stop getting mad about it.

✨My Opinions on Random Fanon Ships in Percy Jackson✨

Theyna- MY FAVORITE SHIP IN THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE 😭. They had so much chemistry, potential, and naturally amazing and hilarious dialogue. I fell in love right away. They have so much in common and feel so right for each other, doesn’t matter if they’re Hunters. Besides- Reyna got rejected by the brother, so what better thing to do than to steal his sister? My queens deserve each other-

Tratie- I have no idea where this came from or why it’s so well-loved, but I like it. It’s a really cute concept though I wish their friendship was expanded on more in the books

Clarilena- Honestly yes. If Clarisse didn’t have Chris, she definitely should’ve gotten together with Silena. The butch and the femme will always be one of the most iconic relationship tropes ever, plus their chemistry and how close they were was really cute and interesting

Reynabeth- Lowkey. If Annabeth wasn’t dating Percy (and Theyna didn’t exist) Reyna would probably be my first choice for Annabeth. They had more chemistry in that one New Rome tour chapter than Percy and Annabeth had in 12+ books and had so much potential as intelligent badass leaders

Pipabeth- ew. Riordan says they’re BFFs and then degrades Annabeth for Piper’s sake, never shows them doing anything friends do, and they never talk, hang out, etc. and their friendship was never explained or expanded on. Kinda just seemed like Riordan created it for the sole purpose of giving Annabeth a BFF and to make the readers like Piper more by having Annabeth like her too despite them being polar opposites and realistically would’ve argued ten times a day

Thaliabeth- pedophila??? and lowkey honorary incest???

Lukabeth- YUCK same thing as Thaliabeth but even worse and toxic af

Pipeyna- nah sis my queen deserves better than some kid who stole her boyfriend then thought she could talk to her about her love life even though was the one who ruined it and made her feel even more lonely, bitter, and shitty without an apology. Also a not-expanded-on-or-explained friendship that made no sense

Perachel- Amazing. So much chemistry and naturally flowing dialogue that just made sense plus it’s super healthy and realistic. Doesn’t deserve all the hate it gets

Dreyna- Lowkey kinda cute. Reyna showing Drew how to fight, Drew and Reyna doing each other’s hair and makeup, Reyna teaching Drew to be nicer, etc.

Jercy- Meh. Their bromance was kind of bland and the fandom over-exaggerates it. They hated each other more than they liked each other, but the potential was definitely there

Valgrace- GIRL YES. Literally gay Frazel and their friendship was so cute but left in the dark honestly my favorite ship besides Theyna

Valdangelo- Yeah kinda. They have a lot in common and could talk to each other about their similar pasts and trauma, plus they’re actually quite similar

Racheyna- I wouldn’t mind it. The artist and the war goddess’ daughter is a cute concept

Jasico- Not really. I don’t really see them being anything more than friends

Perleo- Sassy best friends and sassy boyfriends

Thalico- girl stop with the pedophilia-

Rachabeth- The concept of Rachel having a crush on Percy and Annabeth during BoTL is a concept the world can’t handle but my queen deserves better than some blondie who went ‘you’re friends with my boyfriend and you have different genitals than him? - travis and connor stoll r way too underrated. the two have been head counselors of the hermes cabin since luke was revealed as a traitor, can u imagine the stress? luke, the person they probably looked up to as a brother, betrayed them. and they didnt even have time to process this when they were  thrown the roles of being hcs. that would have been so stressful and i would probably have broken down if i were them. the stoll brothers taking turns to wake up at ungodly hours because a new camper is crying and homesick and terrified, the stoll brothers having to comfort and take care of new campers, having to deal with the amount of people in that cramped space because not enough campers are being claimed fast enough. having to resolve issues between campers in the hermes cabin all the time. the stolls arent just comedic relief, and we need to stop treating them as such

- annabeth isnt smarter than leo but neither is leo smarter than annabeth. ive seen a lot of discussions about who is smarter and heres my hot take on it: neither. theyre equally smart, just in different ways. leos a genius mathematically speaking. he has no issues solving math problems meant for people much, much older than him. annabeth on the otherhand, is great at strategies etc. she can make an army of 1000 more powerful than the enemy, even if theyre outnumbered. so in my opinion, both are equally as smart//u cant compare their intelligence, because their talents lie in two different areas.

- while i do agree rick riordan isnt a god and that hes bound to make mistakes,, AND that hes given us a lot of representation,, if the representation offends the people its sposed to represent, then theres a problem. im talking about piper as a poc and wearing feathers in her hair. im not a poc, so i cant speak for them on whether or not its wrong, because i dont know either. HOWEVER, i have seen multiple posts BY pocs talking about how they didnt really like rick’s representation of piper, and thats an issue. pocs have been and are still oppressed and discriminated against by many. as a white cis man, we cant really blame him for not knowing (tho he could have done a research,, asked some pocs,, idk), but by representing pocs in that manner, hes influencing impressionable kids/teens into thinking “oh pocs wear feathers in their hair all the time” etc, which isnt true. the pjo/hoo series is extremely successful, and kids who read the books will probably start forming inaccurate opinions on pocs. the amount of fan art that depicts piper with feathers in her hair dont help either. “but rick said so in the books, so its canon” yeah well rick isnt a god and he can get some things wrong at times. im not saying we should cancel him, im saying we should start educating ourselves and not spread false info like pocs wearing feathers in their hair all the time. also that snake song shit where she sang Summertime was just- yeah. bc heres the thing you can be racist, and still include minorities, but portray them in a racist way. And even then, ignorance isn't a thing to admire. Getting those facts wrong still has a major impact. It continues to perpetuate racist stereotypes.

- the fact that most of the strong female characters in the series refuse to be “girly”, and ngl i dont really like that. just because ure girly doesnt mean u cant be strong. 

- piper would have been a great way for him to start making the strong characters act girlier, but instead he went with the “I’m not like other girls” trope which is quite obnoxious to hear constantly, and I don’t think it’s necessarily great for younger girls to read that idea growing up.  the closest we've ever had to a strong female character who was also into "girly" things was Silena. when I was younger I admired Piper's "I'm not like other girls" thing, but then I got older and realized that the whole mentality of "not like other girls" is super obnoxious, and a little bit toxic

K this got LONG so here's a read more!

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?

Honestly even though I don't multi-ship often I DO usually get the appeal behind ships so this is a really short list. This will probably get me some hate but I still to this day can't get behind c/ex@ from the show that will not be named. But then again I do get the appeal of two super attractive women with chemistry and the whole ruler/ girl who makes the ruler change their ways thing. So I guess I get it even if I don't like it?

Also, and this is not to hate on Hinny, but Harry and Ginny from HP are not my cup of tea. I like what fandom has done for them but the actual content we get for them in the books (and movies, but I prefer the books) isn't enough for me to love them. Same with Mal and Alina from S & B/ Grishaverse, they're so bland to me in the books but the show is doing far better with them and actually making Mal ya know. Likeable. Again, I don't ship it, but best friends to lovers is top tier so I get it.

Oh! I also don't really get Dwalin/Ori from The Hobbit, but that is probably in large part because I'm a Dwalin/Nori shipper. Again though, all of the secondary characters' relationships in The Hobbit rely on fans to extrapolate HARD and wear extreme shipper goggles, and ik there's that scene where Dwalin helps Ori out of the river so like.. maybe that's where it's from? I don't hate it or anything but it's always something that's made me go ??? cause I have no idea where the heck it came from.

Apart from that... I can't think of any rn? I feel like I understand where all the PJO ships come from, even if I don't ship them. There are a couple that I don't understand how they can be someone's OTP, just because I find them super boring (no offense to those who ship C@leo or J@siper but I just don't love how Rick handled those relationships). In TSC I think fandom mainly vibes with the same pairings and that's true for most of my book fandoms. With the shows I watch I don't think fans majorly ship anything too out there for me. Maybe I don't interact enough with fandoms to tell. So this is all I got.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

Oh my god, oh my god, this is a can of worms, my lord. A pairing I'm not so sure about, but characters? Abso-fucking-lutely. I took a break from PJO fandom for exactly that reason and the list of characters is endless honestly, for multiple fandoms.

I won't say fandom ruined Bell@rke for me cause I still ship it, but I definitely lost enthusiasm with how toxic the shows fandom was and then that was made even worse when the show completely destroyed itself with the worst writing and plots ever in the latter seasons.

Also I have a feeling that G@me of Thrones/ @soiaf ruined one for me but I can't remember this very second. Maybe not, and again that's probably cause I don't interact with fandoms en masse, usually just through fic and following a few people I vibe with in each.

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

Yes, quite a few! I used to dislike Drarry (for obvious reasons I feel) and Romione (as a kid I wanted Hermione to be with Harry and even when I grew out of that I really didn't like she was with Ron) but fandom changed that for sure. And same with Darklina now, I was upset cause I felt like the books really underutilized their relationship and fell short of what could have been a super awesome pairing if better explored, but the show fandom is taking it in so many different ways that I'm starting to really love them despite the reasons I shouldn't.

And I won't say I hated Hayffie in THG, but definitely the only reason I ship them is from reading @ellanainthetardis's fic Have a Drink Sweetheart and then all the others written for them. That portrayal of Hayffie and the characters have become my own headcanons now because I've been reading them for so long and they're so good.

Fandom made me ship Leon and Morgana from Merlin too, though that's very lowkey. I never hated them, I just never thought of them as a pairing until reading fic.

20. What is the purest ship in the fandom?

Percabeth. I don't care which fandom, it's Percabeth. Growing up together, going from enemies to friends to best friends to lovers? The establishment of them being best friends and the way Rick wrote that friendship was so pure, and they are a couple with no internal problems, all external, and you just know they're gonna be together through everything, fighting at each other's side, cause that's the way they are. There's a reason they're my OTP and it's cause they are the most well-established, ride or die couple I can think of. They're just so solid.

21. What are your thoughts on crack ships?

Love em for fandom but personally I very rarely get behind crackships just because I usually need a lot of build up, scenes, good dialogue and chemistry, etc. to ship something, so most of my ships aren't crack ships. The only one I can really think of that I actively root for and ship and would read fic for is Billy/ Owen from 911 Lonestar which is just... something.

Like idk if Barduil from The Hobbit is crack because ik it's quite popular... what makes a ship a crack ship anyway? Lack of canon reference? Is it cause they two characters would be so random together because they barely ever interact? Or because it's SO unrealistic you know for sure it will never happen but want it to anyway? Or is it lack of popularity in fandom? I need someone to define this so I have a better answer :D if it's the second option then I have MANY

I love seeing fandom stuff for crack ships though, cause seriously, it's fiction, ship who you want. If you ship two characters just cause you think they're pretty side by side then that's enough for me. Make all of the fan art and fic you like.

22. Popular character you hate?

Oof. Jason from HOO. And Leo in everything after The Lost Hero. I hated Piper in The Lost Hero and Mark of Athena but like her after those. I don't like any of the book characters from S & B except Nikolai, but I like everyone in the show (except David? Why did they make him so weird? Like he's not even awkward, he's straight up rude imo, but anyway). In @soiaf I don't like Jon Snow, I think he's boring. And I despise Jorah Mormont cause I think he's creepy for having a crush on Dany.

Didn't love Stefan in TVD, too much of a goody-two-shoes. I liked dark Stefan but it felt like a totally different character. Honestly most of the characters I don't like cause they're boring or too by-the-book.

OH! A big one in M@rvel is Captain America. Can't stand him honestly, I like him as a character to have in the story, but I like never agree with him on anything. I like a couple of his one-liners but that's it really. I also don't like Gale in THG, idk if that's controversial. Or Lex@ from the show that will not be named because I think she's manipulative and not good for any of the characters i DO love.

Is Ron popular? I think so. I like fandom Ron but not canon Ron and idk why. I think I'm growing out of it but I read those books when I was like 7 initially so I thought it was awful of Ron to stop being friends with Harry because he was jealous and I never really got over that.

There are so many but I'm gonna stop now.

23. Unpopular character you love?

Again, tons. I love anyone whose got kind of a tortured backstory because it makes them more interesting to me.

I love Movieverse Hawkeye! I think Clint is great and while I wish his deafness was canon in Marvel and I don't love J Remmer, I do love Hawkeye a lot. He was honestly one of the only Marvel characters that felt consistent and in-character throughout the movies.

I like President Snow from THG just cause I think he was a fantastic villain. And Effie and Haymitch aren't unpopular, but they're probably my favourites, again because of the fics mentioned above.

Leon from Merlin!! I don't actually think he's unpopular, but he's like... my fourth favourite character in the show which I know IS considered high for most people.

Sandor Clegane from ASOIAF. Not the show, just the books. His book character is phenomenal and I am so excited for GrrM to finish the goddamn series so I know what happens to him.

The Stolls and Katie Gardner from PJO cause fandom created Tratie and sucked me in at a young age.

Bellatrix Lestrange? Is she unpopular? I don't think so but she's another one I think is a fantastic villain. I'm almost more interested in her than Voldemort tbh.

NaLu analysis: What do people want from a relationship?

Someone, once claimed that NaLu cannot evolve into a canon relationship, because Natsu leaving two years ago changes the context of his words at the end of the Alvarez arc: “We’ll be together forever from now on.” Completely disregarding how attached Natsu and Lucy are to one another

Adding to this argument, others claim Natsu will choose Touka over Lucy despite the fact one relationship is far more developed than the other, or how Natsu and Lucy display actual chemistry, something he doesn’t have with his other “love interest.”

Others probably say that since Natsu isn’t actively seeking “romantic love,” only someone actively seeking his affection can be his wife. However, the argument that baffled me the most was the ‘NaLu shouldn’t happen because Lucy doesn’t want romance from Natsu’

I could cheat my way through this matter by merely posting Mashima’s NaLu twits featuring situations that go beyond what “friends” would do, or behaviors that showcase both characters may want something “more” from each other...

...but a potent pairing only needs what the story shows to prove its worth

So, this time around we have some question to answer: what do the characters seek in their relationship? How those that affect their potential to become a canon pairing?

We already know how Lucy became emotionally attached to Natsu. In fact , @decadus already analyzed the moment that “solidified his role in her life” And we already saw how the story shaped their chemistry from that poin onwards, so after several shared experiences, what does Lucy often seek in Natsu?

We already know she looks for fun and excitement, which she finds with Natsu due to him being a thrill seeker who loves adventures and actively tries to get Lucy involved in them, which provides Lucy with a lot of excitement and joy

This particular point is not something unique to an adventure shonen setting. Some experts at psychology admit that when women are looking for healthy relationships, most of them tend to seek partners that bring fun and a sense of adventure capable of keeping a lively and interesting dynamic

On the other hand, Lucy also seeks comfort and relief in him...

...this is a very relevant point in the development of emotional chemistry. And it’s something that occurs in real life too.

According to a licensed counselor, good relationships are built on some basic and down-to-earth traits or qualities such as loyalty, trust, kindness, and so on. But, one of the tratis women often want from a relationship with a potential partner is emotional and/or practical support.

That could come in the form of small but thoughtful actions or big yet meaningful gestures...

...a potential partner should not only acknowledge the trials and tribulations the girl goes through, but also take action to bring relief, comfort or even reassure her depending on the circumstances

Something that Natsu had done, both passively and actively, for Lucy throughtout the series.

More importantly, Lucy wants companionship from Natsu! An element that keeps most long-term relationships firm and stable.

Without it, romantic partners are less likely to stick together as time goes by. And NaLu had been displaying a deep and strong companionship for ages. A solid chemistry with a strong emotional attachment

When it comes to Natsu himself, we already saw how Lucy also had a profound and tangible effect on him

He not only expressed how “precious” Lucy is to him, more than that we’ve seen how much Natsu values the way Lucy perceives him...

...we’ve seen how lost he would be if forced to face her death...

...we’ve seen how Lucy can be the driving force behind some of his biggest choices...

...we’ve seen how when he lost himself to power, Lucy was the one who could bring him back

Detractors may argue that none of this is explicitly romantic. All while claiming that someone who actually wants “romantic love” should be with Natsu. Or that Lucy should fall for someone far more interesting and better-looking.

People who makes such arguments against NaLu ignore a lot of details and implications inherent to their claims. But, they also ignore two highly relevant points: the first one being that all the traits described here are essential for a romantic relationship to work out, and the second one is context

In the Fairy Tail manga sequel we had one chapter that allowed us to put all of these showings in a new perspective.

Fairy Tail 100 years quest chapter 25 confirmed that...

...the main cast doesn’t have much experience with “romantic love.” And the ones with literally zero experience are Lucy and Natsu.

So, it’s very difficult for a character with little knowledge and/or experience on this field to actively seek romance

But, this revelation gives us something else to consider. The fact, Natsu and Lucy managed to build a relationship that shares so many traits with a healthy romance proves how effortlessly natural this bond feels to both characters

They’ve been spontaneously growing closer and closer over time without realizing how deep and intimate their connection had become.

Yet, despite their “obliviousness” to romantic love. Lucy gets from her relationship with Natsu nearly everything a woman would ask from a romantic partner. On the other had, we saw how Natsu had been growing so attached to Lucy that not only he sees her as someone “precious” to him, they got to the point in which someone like Zeref could comment on how much of an impact Lucy had on Natsu, characters like Mavis could get inspiration from them to formulate a plan based on love, and Natsu himself gets jealous when people flirt with Lucy...

All is set for this potent relationship to evolve.

So, is it necessary for Lucy go all “Touka” over Natsu so this bond may become something else? Obviously not, without getting all lovey-dovey, or even realizing it, Lucy already finds in Natsu all she needs from a partner.

Does Natsu need to actively try to get into Lucy’s pants for NaLu to be a thing? No, he made note-worthy contributions to their relationship’s growth by being himself, not a Casanova Wannabe or a Mr. Fanservice

Any other choice is pretty much underdeveloped or simply implausible from a story-telling point of view.

Honestly don’t understand all the hype about tratie. Like I mean no offense to anyone but they didn’t have much time together and when they did it seemed kinda toxic? Like maybe they we’re friends or became friends but with some of the things said especially during the war I personally can’t see that being a healthy relationship:

i can see where you’re coming from, anon. i personally don’t really ship tratie either. 

but i think when it comes to fandoms, sometimes random ships kinda do just happen. like i know there are people who ship drillie (drew x billie) and they canonically haven’t had any interaction whatsoever. like for example, i know that valdangelo is a popular ship. but from what i remember in canon, they actually haven’t had too many interactions with each other. probably more than tratie, but still. 

as for the toxicity, i don’t really remember too much about their interactions but i can also see where you’re coming from there. but to that i would just say that it’s just one moment in the series, you know? it shouldn’t define their entire relationship or anything because since we don’t know much about them, we could always decide that the characters and/or the dynamics change later on. if they were persistently annoying/griping at each other throughout like the course of the series then yeah that would be toxic but i think that people grow, too. maybe their dynamic is much different in the minds of tratie shippers.

Headcanon of the gods reacting to their children dating

Percabeth: ...Do I really need to develop this? Their parents HATE each other and so as we've all seen in the books, Athena didn't like Percy around her daughter. Poseidon, he didn't like it either but he just wanted his son to be happy after all the quests and misery he's been through. Athena slowly started to accept it because her wisdom dictated her that Annabeth's happiness was the most important thing. Percy did ask, not only Frederick Chase's, but also Athena's blessing to marry her daughter. She said yes.

Solangelo: well first thing first, Hades didn't mind Nico being gay, not at all (I mean come on they're Greek). The only thing he was afraid of, was his son being enamored with 'stupid Jackson' or 'dumb Grace' as he likes to call them. So when he learned that his son was dating a son of Apollo, he was relieved but also glad about one thing: the fact that just like him with Persephone, his son who's an introvert and a person filled of darkness in his life, fell for someone as light as Will. But for good measure, he did threaten Will to send him straight to the punishment fields if he ever hurt Nico.

Tratie: Demeter is a very protective mother. The fact that she couldn't save Persephone from Hades' claws has a lot to do with it. She didn't like Travis pranking around Katie already but when Hermes made her understand that it was his son's way to flirt with her, she was more than displeased. But then they started dating for real and seeing how happy Katie was, Demeter couldn't do anything but approve.

Chrisse: one word. Chaos. When Ares learned that his only daughter of this century, his drakon slayer, was not only dating a boy but the camp's former traitor... All Olympus had to hold him back from destroying Chris in pieces: "HOW DARE HE?! HOW DARE HE EVEN TOUCH MY LITTLE GIRL" Hermes was just laughing on the ground being like "that's my boy! A tough fighter to save his ass! Clever choice!"

Charlena: it was a huge shock for everyone on Olympus. Everyone knew something was going on between Beckendorf and Silena but they were all shocked that Aphrodite approved of it. At first, Hephaestus thought that she was up to no good and was using her daughter to hurt his son, so he confronted her. She just smiled sadly and said: "they're what we could have been, in some way. I wanted to mend what I've broken."

Cecellis: "HERMES WHAT IS IT WITH YOUR SONS SEDUCING MY WARRIORS THE FUCK?!" Ares had said. He had no problem with Ellis liking boys though. If anything he'd say it's a clever choice since "women can be so needy sometimes". Hermes was still laughing ofc and admitted that his children with Ares' was his favorite combination.

Sheranda: their relationship surprised not only their parents but also most campers because they're total opposites: Sherman is known to be the most violent of his cabin and Miranda is a sweet and shy girl. Demeter was worried he would hurt her daughter and Ares was just caught because he thought Sherman would be that son so committed to fighting and war that he wouldn't get distracted with girls (turns out even Ares kids need love). At the end, everyone just sees it's meant to be: they complete each other. Sherman is calmer and seems at peace when she's around and Miranda actually stands up more for herself and gains confidence as cabin leader with his influence.

Canon:

percabeth: their relationship set the bar so damn high i want what they have 😔 10/10

jasiper: i say jasiper bc everyone argues whether or not it's jasper or jiper and it's a solid combination of the two. tbh their relationship wasn't good. like good while it lasted but if they never broke up i would've been surprised. it was also hella fake, and piper is probably gay let my girl live hera 4/10

frazel: ✨no✨ first of all (here's a side controversial opinion) i don't like frank. don't worry, i absolutely love hazel. second, that age gap? um, chile anyways 👀 sorry if you think that an eighth grader dating a junior in high school is okay, but it's a definite no for me ❤️✨ 0/10

I love the Stolls. Pure and sweet boys and my favorite side characters. Also the fact that Tratie isn’t actually canon is just so weird to me? Looking at the German side of pjo fanfics it’s safe to say that Tratie is one of THE pjo ships. I’m pleasantly surprised??? Why the fuck aren’t they canon? RIORDAN WHAT IS YOU DOING?!

But back to your question. That is such a great point. I really do wonder how the relationship and dynamic in the Hermes cabin unwinded. Percy’s perspective pretty much stopped ever since he left and got his own love bunker. Since Luke came off as a big brother figure, I’m pretty sure that he actually was that for the Hermes cabin. He was their leader and for some their half-brother. I’d like to imagine that Luke & The Stolls had an amazing relationship and would’ve bonded as siblings prior to TLT and events.

Like the result of Luke being the betrayer and how it would’ve impacted the Hermes cabin leaves so much potential??

You have this amazing big brother who you’d trust with your life and then all of a sudden he’s the bad guy? Could you imagine how heartbroken everyone must have been? Not just Annabeth and Percy, but the people that actually saw Luke waking up and going to bed? Eating with him together at a table? Seeing him laugh, crack jokes and teach how to pick a lock or prank people?

Also the stigma of being a Hermes kid and being close related to the traitor??? Hello??? Kids are fucking stupid and can be horrendously judgmental. For example with Percy (which everyone loves to forget): he wasn’t popular and after he had been claimed by his father he was pretty much an outsider and that sorta stayed with him, because he inserted himself in all kinds of shit. And I mean that’s just Percy - the Hermes cabin would’ve been hit way worse (just look at the fucking fandom every time Luke discourse pops up. That’s pretty much the sentiment). They would’ve been THE outcasts of the camp. 

Of course, Riordan needed some of them and wanted for them to be the good guys, but the stigma of being a Hermes kids probably would’ve lasted until Luke died. Or even beyond that, who knows.

I honestly would’ve wished for either Travis + Katie or Connor to be part of the seven. Not just, to give other characters a chance to shine, but to give side characters we know a chance! All of these thoughts with Luke would’ve been amplified and we would’ve seen more Hermes cabin backgrounds. The new characters really don’t mesh with me. Super random people that are supposedly the most powerful kids tossed in some super ancient prophecy? Even if, let some side character (instead of Percabeth) be a part of it.

  Holding on each other, as if they were good old friends, they fell out of the inn, like two sacks of potatoes. The only sober thought flashed through Ivakir’s head was that she had promised herself (almost swore to Melitele) that she would never drink with Lambert again. Because drinking with him was like committing suicide, only in a non-standard way. But now the promise seemed to her something far, not important, as if it had never existed. If it never existed, so why she had to care about it? My head will explode tomorrow, Ivakir thought, wrapping herself tighter in a winter jacket. But it will be fun, another Ivakir replied, the one who loved good company and noisy parties more than anything else. Ivakir decided to listen to the cheerful Ivakir.

  Looking around to find a snowdrift where she could shove Lambert (for no particular reason, you just sometimes had a spontaneous desire to push your drinking buddy into a snowdrift just to see him screaming and cursing), the witch noticed a strange grass hanging above the entrance to the inn.

“Lebioda’s holy balls! I can’t believe that this thing is here!”

  It might have seemed that Ivakir, telling “here”, meant the inn, but speaking “here”, she meant something else. Mistletoe, of course, looked a little different, but she could recognize this insidious grass from a thousand similar grasses.

  Perhaps the traditions were the same here? Another holiday, but the same traditions. Ivakir turned a drunken, pensive look at the witcher.

“Lambert, my friend, you know what folks say about traditions,” she put her hands on his shoulders, either trying to hold on and not fall, or to prevent Lambert from running away. “Trati- tradititions must be respected, Lambert, otherwise something bad will happen,” the witch said importantly, imitating the voice of some scientist. She looked at the man and realized that she had drunk enough alcohol to perform half-thoughtless actions taken on a drunken head. She laid her hands on his face and squeezed his cheeks. “And the thing you need to know about me is that I am that kind of woman who respects traditions. When I arrived here, I learned all about local traditions,” shaking off some dirt from Lambert’s forehead, the witch pressed a kiss there. “You are a good man. I like you and I don’t say it to anyone,” she smiled and patted him lightly on the cheek, letting him go. “Now, excuse me, but I wanna go home. My ass is freezing.”

Gravity Falls little analysis

 so Hi

i have been rewatching this moment on the series and wanted to share some of my thoughts on this events, speacially the pines family. 

(i don’t know if someone has talked about this before, if you have let me a comment on your thoughs so we can share opinions :v)

Here we see the intense escene between the pines family + soos.

something that really catches my attention is the part when soos and dipper are attacking stanley, dipper as always being mind drived telling mabel to shut down the portal and she being confused because she doesn’t know if she should trust this person who makes himself call her grunkle.  

she starts crying because she wants to believe in him for the memories they have toghether but is confusiong since all the recent stuff they found about him (the false id etc..) and she cries.

the three guys seem choked, aware of mabels feelings, kind of “she is crying this is serious”.  (kind of... maybe just my wrong interpretation, not sure of it )

This makes me think of the power of feelings, emotions.

her tears stops the fight for a moment and is in her hands to decide to trust or not, to decide to shut it down or to let go. 

and this is key, because alex made this on purpose, he knew that mabel has the emotional criteria and social experience to know when to trust or not.. since she follows her heart more than her brain, contrary to dipper. 

and that’s awesome, because with all the info we had we thought like dipper, he was the enemy, we didn’t know what he was planning, we didn’t know who is he!!!. 

but mabels insticts were right, she saw the truth in his face and simply trusted him. 

showing us that desicions made just with your brain are .. limited?... no... INCOMPLETE.

just favoring the brain is not right, but favoring just the heart isn’t right too

thats why dipper and mabel work good as a team

dipper provides more deep thinking and structure into the situation and mabel provides more fun and emotional backround to it. 

kind of nurtuting each others vision.

now with this two 

so ...

First: 

i think they share common traits with the kids and i’m not just talking about fords inteligence that is comparable to dippers, 

and stanley ...

spontaneity?.... crazyness?... Personality? (XD.. i dont know how to name it) comparable to mabels.

I’m talking about ford weidness equivalent to mabels.... yes, mabel is weird, she get things out of nothing  (XD i like her because of that) and ford is weird because of his 6 fingers, the fact he is kind of an outsider; for this, his intellginece and his likes for the unknown. 

stanley and dipper share their heroic traits, always taking care of their siblings and being in charge of a dangerous situation. dipper always protects and defends mabel and well stanley, this “idiot”, learned physics and stuff to bring his brother back, withouth mentioning how he saved the twins multiple times. they have a big sense of family values. 

Second (last ?) :

the stans had this too, they nurture each others visions.

but at some point they got into an argument and couldn’t resolve it...

mostly because of Fords circumstances ( her parents and the director telling him that his brother was useless, and how they raised his ego for being “super intelligent”) making him see stanley as a traitor. 

and stanleys lack of sincerity and empathy of fords dreams (he could have just told ford the truth that his machine broked and they could have repaired it). 

and well everything endend like that and not just their relationship.

all that mess with the weirdness in gravity falls  and with bill could have been avoided if the have worked as a team.

as ford said:

Ford was too naive and stans was too impulsive.

and the proof is there in the video too.

the two talked and stanley came with an amazing plan, according to fords knowledge of bill. this is solved when the two stans worked together. 

(thye kind of started all of this, so it was fair it was them who solved it. kind of  sad it had to take and armagedon for them to realize this) 

so conclusions:

- here we see, that the key to win is team work

-the characther tratis of each person nurtures the other visions and allows to acomplish things, win and get out of different situations.

- admiting faults and being receptive it is key too, when a conflict arrives. 

- no one is useless,  no ablity is useless, grunkle stan knowledge of decieve and cheating was key in the final battle against bill, and of course in other situations. 

so, thats gravity falls for you

 a show about how family union is important in life.

Katie was putting in an order by the bar. She got placed near the bar tonight, which she couldn’t complain. That meant being close to Travis during her shift.

Travis placed some drinks on a tray for a waitress to pick up. He smiled at her after putting the drinks down. 

“What are you doing after your shift?” Travis asked.

“I’m going to see my boyfriend.” Katie replied with a smile. 

“Oh, so you have a boyfriend now?” Travis teased. “You never told me that.”

“Well, I do. He’s super nice and has a cute ass.” Katie took the tray with the drinks on them. 

“A cute ass?” Travis smirked. 

“Yup.” Katie walked away with the drinks.

The whole first week of their relationship felt like a dream. They were always at each other’s places. Katie loved the way she woke up next to Travis. His body was nice and warm and it was comforting. 

She was constantly happy and so was Travis. They were always smiles and giggling. It was like their honeymoon bubble was shielding them in from the rest of the world.

The only thing was, when it shattered would they still be able to be this happy? They were happy before, but the thought of their bubble being shattered and they actually didn’t like each other as much as they did.

Katie came back over to the bar and saw Travis making a drink for two girls. He was smiling and the girls were giggling. Her heart clenched as she watched the scene in front of her. 

But flirting was part of the job. She watched him flirt with multiple people before and nothing should change. He was just making tips, that’s all. 

“Trav.” Katie called, making him turn away from the girls once they had their drinks. 

Travis turned toward her and walked over. He looked at her with a smile. “What’s up?”

“I need a mojito, pina colada, and a Bud Light.” She told him. “And are you flirting with those girls?”

Travis stared at her for a moment. “What?”

“The drinks, please.” She turned red and walked away.

That was so stupid of her. How could she say that to him? It’s his job for crying out loud. He’s doing his job and she needs to do hers.

She went out back and took a deep breath of fresh air. She needed to count to sixty before she could go back inside.

She didn’t reply. She needed to focus on her breathing and clearing her mind before she could say anything to him.

“Katie, please talk to me. You never acted like that before.” He said. “Were you jealous that those girls were flirting with me?”

“You need to talk to me. If we’re dating I need you to-”

“Fifteen seconds, please.” She mumbled.

Travis looked at her and watched her as she breathed.

Katie looked at him. She was calmed down enough to finally talk to him. “I needed to clear my head. I know what I said to you was wrong. I’m sorry. I know you were just doing your job.”

“I accept your apology.” He said, wrapping his arm around her. “You know I have no interest in those girls. The only girl I have my eyes on is you.”

She smiled a little bit, feeling a bit better. 

“After our shift, want to get some food?” He asked.

“Yeah, sounds good.”

He kissed her head before getting up. “Let’s get back to work before we get in trouble.”

She got up and kissed his cheek before walking back inside.
