I'm currently rewriting HoO (for fun and my own pleasure tbh) and I'm changing Calypso so fucking much. She will be released from Ogygia already in The Lost Hero (Hermes did it himself, he kinda seems like the god with the most remorse after the war and I do believe he'd be the one to remember).
I wanted her to help the demigods, just didn't know WHEN she will fucking appear. I knew probably not the Lost Hero since I really like the trio's dynamic. Then I thought...
THE SON OF NEPTUNE. Obviously she would TOTALLY go to Alaska, out of the gods' reach?? So yeah! Calypso would totally be there.
For the record, I'm keeping her as she was presented in Percy Jackson: mentally and physically a teenager. That's her curse: time doesn't go on in Ogygia, think Miss Peregrine.
So she's not as angry and mean as in HoO: she'll act like in PJO. Sweet, kinda sad, probably powerful. I'm still deciding on making her a true ally for the whole series since she's still angry at the gods. Maybe she will even question joining Gaea (Gaea isn't as evil as in the original series: she's angry because the humans are destroying the earth, she's kinda a very violent Pan), but Will ultimately decide not to, probably because of Percy/Frank/Hazel. Also, I doubt she would make the same mistake twice.

I love Jason, Piper, Leo, Hazel and Frank so much but I do believe Rick could have done so much better with HOO.
With all the emphasis on minor gods and children ALL the gods getting claimed, I do believe he should have made the seven a group of ragtag unlikely to work together demigods of minor/ gods other than the big three.
And I mean kids who are only just figuring out their powers, dealing with internal trauma, who start out respecting the shit out of the gods (both Roman and Greek). They were young in the battle of Manhattan so they don't remember a time before that. And HOO should have taken place long after PJO.
So now, you have cameos from out beloved characters. Rachel gives prophecies, Percy trains them with swords like Luke trained him, Nico could be the oldest demigod with them (either on the team or just helping them)

i hate the random age jump riordan did with nico, like what was the point ??? if u wanted him to be older, heroes of olympus couldve taken place later, which wouldve been nicer for the characters to have more than a few months off after the 2nd titan war, and also wouldve made percy and annabeth older to where they couldve been mentors to the seven instead of being in it and unnecessarily expanding their character development, and also —

New Rome rewrite!
Hello! I wanted to post this about New Rome before I start to write about the Roman gods as well, because while the Greek demigod sanctuary bears a fair amount of resemblance to its book counterpart, New Rome is completely re-imagined. So let’s talk about that!
LUPA’S WOLF PACK:
Lupa’s pack functions as a way to bring Roman demigods to New Rome. The pack travels with usually very experienced demigods, and they make trips with Lupa to pick up different Roman demigods around the country and world. They act as ambassadors for New Rome, and can communicate with the demigod (and in some cases, their mortal families). The demigods are given the ability to communicate with Lupa, and the journey gives the new demigods a way of getting used to the dangerous life of the mythical world. However, the wolves they meet also swear to protect them, instead of trying to actively kill them.
CLAIMING:
Claiming is done through the process of bringing demigods to different temples based on what powers they display. At the temples, they can make a sacrifice to specifically summon and talk to their godly parent, and thus they can be claimed. There are many places around New Rome to get supplies to show their godly heritage, like pins, patches, shirts, and tattoos.
JUPITER ACADEMY:
Jupiter Academy is a school-year based program to help teach demigods about the myths, monsters, and tools they need to survive. It also teaches them a lot about history, basic healing for when in combat, and many different fighting styles. Demigods can also go into tracks at the age of 15, where they can choose what kind of position they want to have. These tracks end when they are 18, and thus they can take up a job in New Rome, or go back into the mortal world. Also, with the school functioning during the fall, winter, and spring, demigods can spend the summer with their families. The academy uniform is a purple sweater with the SPQR symbol on it.
The tracks include a combat track, a research track, a medical track, a craftsmen track, a religious/theology track, and many others that fit into things that are needed both in New Rome and in the outside world. The students are given badges for their grades and skills in school, though if a demigod wants to go into the outside mortal world again, they can sometimes struggle to catch up with mortal systems of education.
All the demigods stay in dorms, usually with demigods of the same age group and/or track. They are able to customize the dorms, and it offers them a lot of safety and peace and quiet.
NEW ROME
Many demigods go into the combat track, which leads them to become the main source of defense for the city. While New Rome is blessed by Janus, it does not have the same magical barriers that Camp Empeiria does. Thus, it needs guard patrols regularly, as monsters attack quite frequently due to the amount of demigods in the same space. Combat track demigods can hold positions similar to the ancient Roman military system, which can also grant them some political positions in New Rome as they get older. The other, much rarer track of religion/theology offers demigods in it a similar political position.
Tattoos and piercings are common for demigods in New Rome, but they are never required.
Demigods that retire (who can retire after 5 years) are usually able to go into a different craft if they please, and many are given houses around New Rome.
I hope this makes sense, and really makes New Rome feel unique (and not just a slightly odder clone of Camp Half-Blood from the books!).

I think it would be funny to set HoO in 2018/2019 because that means (if Magnus Chase ends the latest out of PJO, MC and KC) then there hasn’t been any major conflicts in the pantheons that set up shop in America for like almost a decade but then suddenly fucking Gaea starts shit again and everyone immediately swivels and glares at the Romans (because everyone hates them anyway) and the Greeks (this better not start shit for us too you asshats).

Jason being a son of Jupiter wasn't necessary, except for angst reason.
This also applies to Hazel and I'd say it's even worse in her case.
PJO's war was about how gods would ignore their children. Most people in Luke's army were children of minor gods, and I think for multiple reasons: as leader of Hermes' Cabin, he met them all. They were never claimed, and even if they were, they didn't have a cabin - which is probably the main reason their parents would not claim them.
Heroes of Olympus should be about children of minor gods, those who were ENNEMIES of Olympus in the previous series. And, the pact? When Thalia came, it wasn't weird nor shocking because we already knew of her. She came back? Great, the deal is now that Percy is no longer the child of the prophecy. But when Nico (and Bianca but... You know) was revealed to be a child of Hades? Shocking. Like, actually. It was a great plot twist with an amazing build up. And it actually had an impact, even on Percy, who immediately accepted his role as the Chosen One. He probably wouldn't have so easily if it wasn't for Nico.
Then, Heroes of Olympus. Jason is a son of Jupiter... It was so underwhelming. When Hazel was introduced, I actually rolled my eyes. At least, with Jason, his arc revolves around being Hera/Juno's champion BECAUSE he is Jupiter's son. But Hazel? It's only for Nico to have another sister. And it wasn't necessary. Hazel is a dead girl he saved from Asphodel's Fields where she was wandering alone after her mom died... he could have seen someone else than Bianca. He could have seen himself in Hazel. Instead of getting the chance of saving his sister, he got the chance to save another traumatized kid who, like himself, wandered in a terrifying and obscure place all alone. Boom, you got your angst and it's way more subtle (I think).
For Jason? Keep him the son of Beryl Grace. And keep Zeus offering him to Hera to make amend for Thalia's birth. It's still horrible, even more since Zeus just... Took some other god's child to give him to his wife, and he can because he's just the king. This would probably built even more resentment from the minor gods and explain why some would join the titans: Zeus/Jupiter is taking their kids and using them. And Beryl would agree to it so Hera wouldn't hurt her.
There, Jason is not a son of Jupiter, still Hera's champion and the minor gods' anger make even more sense.

Yo! I'm doing a Heroes of Olympus rewrite!
I'm not a huge fan of how some scenes go in canon and how the characters esp the gods are handled in Hoo, and after reading one too many rewrite/AU fics, I've decided fuck it, imma make my own.
I'm changing quite a few things, like:
- making Piper's memories not be tampered with and as a result be way closer to Leo (credit to Heroes of Juno by @queenjunothegreat for this idea!)
- MOTHERLY HERA/JUNO WHO PSEUDO-ADOPTS JASON FTW also parental Lupa but that'll be more apparent in a Jason prequel/sequel(depends on how I wanna format it) I’ll write after TLH is done
- slowburn valgrace instead of comphet jiper
- Leo and Piper QPR(+Jason when Piper stops being his #1 opp). Jasipereo ftw babyyy
- the whole series is just gonna have a good deal of focus on the Lost Trio. I'm not gonna shaft anyone ofc but my favorite punching bags characters are just gonna get extra love :3
- Jason's gonna be considerably more feral cuz CMON MAN WAS RAISED BY WOLVES(this is more prominent in the later books cuz in TLH he was alr feral, going at 2 giants with his BARE ASS HANDS)
- Jason has more bite cuz DAMMIT HE DESERVES TO BE ANGRY/BITTER AND CLAP BACK. HIS LIFE IS SHIT, LET MY BRO BE MAD
- more exploration into Jason's character cuz man was shafted so hard :(
- exploration of characters' powers in general, def buffing the Big Three kids to be as strong as Percy cuz holy cow he's OP. I love Percy and his OP-ness, but the other Big Three kids should be just as OP
- Zeus is the God of Justice, which we don't see much of in PJO's characterization of him, but Jupiter is Roman and hence is much more strict in the RRverse, so consequently I think his domain of law and order is more central to Jupiter than his greek counterpart, so I'd like to explore Jason having powers related to that and being an absolute powerhouse when it comes to debates and politics despite hating them
- characterizing the Gods differently from canon as I'm a Hellenist and writing them as they are in canon makes me like. Kinda uncomfortable. I will be using mythic literalism as that is what PJO/HoO's based on and I'm not rewriting the very foundations of the series, so they will still have committed the things they did in mythology, though I'm keeping them largely unaltered from the Og greek mythos and unsanitized as this isn't intended for a young audience like PJO is. Their behavior won't be exactly like their depictions in myths nor how they actually are irl, it's a mix of both(Ex: Zeus has still done heinous shit so he won't be as great as he is irl, but he isn't supremely petty and bitchy like he is in PJO.). This uhh. Will probably mean that PJO events would go differently which would influence HOO but if I think about that too much I'm gonna wanna do a PJO rewrite too and akbhdhd so just imagine that everything that goes on in PJO goes as canon (for now at least) for some reason or another.
- Octavian and Jason are were best friends cuz I said so. This change is inspired by To Storm and Fire(a Heroes of Olympus rewrite) which I am in LOVE with. The antagonistic side characters(like Drew and Octavian) got very little development or character exploration so l'm definitely giving them that in my rewrite!
- The Seven feel and are much closer together
- delving more into the sevens' trauma pre-camp, might also do a one/two shot for each of them. Jason’s a given cuz I’m writing a whole ass fic or even series dedicated to his past, Leo and Piper definitely, probably also Hazel and Annabeth, not sure on Percy and Frank cuz for Frank I’m def going into the trauma that comes with growing up in an Asian household but don’t have too many ideas on how to execute that, and for Percy I don’t have all that many ideas in general outside of the little we know in PJO(I used to think we knew a lot but honestly, we really don’t? Like we know Poseidon left, Sally had to work a lot, Gabe sucks, and he got kicked out of 6 six schools in 6 years and the reasons, but we don’t have any concrete details. There might be more in HoH, I haven’t read it yet so lmk if there is). Open to any ideas for this!
- camp is. Tense. It's been only a few months since the war, grief is still fresh, and Jason being tall, blonde, and blue-eyed with a scar ain't helping 💀 some people think Silena was a hero, others think she was a villain, some people sympathized with Luke, others despised him, there's a lotta differing views.
I have loads more ideas that I won't get into here cuz the post'll get way too long, but l'd love to hear what you guys think! What scenes/characterizations should I change? What topics would you like to see handled differently? What should I add? I'm open to any and all suggestions!
Currently outlining TLH, will start posting it on my ao3 once I have the first chapter and 4-5 buffer ones written so I'll prolly start posting it in a month or two? Idk, depends on my workload irl and if I get hit by writer’s block. Maybe less, maybe more, who knows. I'll be writing a bunch of shorter stories for specific moments, time between books, and namely a prequel/tih sequel focusing on Jason's past and who he was before Hera wiped his memory. Open to any suggestions for additional works too. Feel free to drop any questions and suggestions bout the rewrite here or in my ask box!

Rick is known to mirror myths a lot (Silena-Clarisse and Patroclus-Achilles, Polyphemus' cave, Hercules' labors, etc) He could and SHOULD have mirrored the Trojan war in HOO.
Let me set the scene. Gaea doesn't pop up until the last couple books. It's easy to be scared of something that is mentioned but not seen, which in my opinion, is why Gaea in the HOO books just wasn't scary enough.
So the antagonists in the first few books are the Giants working under Gaea's orders. Percy is kidnapped by them and given to the Romans in the hope that the Greeks and the Romans will go batshit crazy in a fight and forget all about the prophecy of the seven and destroying Gaea or whatever.
Camp Halfblood is fully ready for war. As soon as they find out (through an oracle or smth idk) that the Romans exist and they have Percy, not even Chiron can stop them. Percy is the hero of the Battle of Manhattan, of course, and the hero mentioned in the last great prophecy. He's like their modern Aristos Achaion.
Meanwhile, the Romans have no clue what's going on. There's this guy he's funny, he has no memories, he just shows up at their wolf goddess and trains and gets sent to them. Cool.
Juno can't stand to see New Rome be attacked. Whether or not they would win is a whole different story. So she plucks Jason from CJ and brings them to the Greeks just for some sort of a balance.
This mirrors the Trojan war in the sense that Troy was a fortified city, so is New Rome with tons of forts and walls. Aeneas' lineage went on to be Remus and Romulus, the founders of Rome. And Helen of Troy was stolen from the Greeks.
Anyway so there's that conflict, but at the same time Camp Halfblood is getting ready to attack, Jason, Piper and Leo get sent on a quest to rescue Hera who has been captured by Porphyrion and Enceladus.
On the way, Jason starts to regain his memory a little bit, though he doesn't know everything yet. He's still super conflicted with everything. A pretty girl thinks they were dating, Leo says they were best friends, Annabeth says the Romans are enemies. But whom should he really believe?
Piper's whole arc through the first book could be about how she's the daughter of the goddess of beauty, she wrongly assumes her fake crush on Jason was her mom's fault. And she's learned so much bad stuff about her mom from myths, she outright rejects feminity and anything remotely girly at first but then slowly she gets to know Aphrodite isn't as bad as some myths make her out to be. Bonding and shit bc why should Poseidon be the only present godly parent?
Leo, meanwhile, has no idea he can essentially fire bend in the first book. His arc could be about discovering his mother's death was his fault, slightly and coming to terms with it with the help of his friends.
Reyna on the Roman's side is freaking out bc Octavian wants to go to war with the Greeks who are close to attacking them, there's a strange dude who keeps trying to pick fights with gods, a horse girl and not to mention monsters won't fucking DIE.
SON trio go on their quest to Alaska to kill Alcyoneus/ release Thanatos and things are getting clearer to them as well. Just when the Greeks are about to attack on CJ, Polybotes and the monsters attack as well. Somehow, both sides end up fighting the monsters together.
They're not friends, but they're not enemies either, bc Percy is reunited with his gf and Jason is returned to his home.
The Roman senate and the Greeks somehow come to the same conclusions- that a quest needs to go to their ancient lands. Over the next few months the work of the Argo II commences.
Things seem smooth for a while. But Gaea grows restless. She poisons Octavian and manipulates him through dreams and stuff like Kronos did to Luke. As is the nature of most Roman emperors, Octavian overthrows Reyna and declares himself the leader of New Rome like his namesake Octavius Caesar. (HAHA! HISTORY PARALLEL BITCHES)
This puts the actual quest on hold bc the seven now need to find the Athena Parthenos to bring together the Greeks and the Romans and to stop Octavian's plan of trying to fuck as much shit up as possible.
Reyna, Nico and say idk, Grover, are the ones to deviate from the quest and bring the statue to USA again. But the Seven are still very much in Europe after rescuing Nico.
Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus which helps close the Doors of Death, except this time since Nico isn't there, Hazel has to take on control over ghosts and the dead in the House of Hades and leading up to it. The powers of mist, in my opinion, should have gone to Piper since charmspeaking is a lot like bending the mist verbally.
Piper's arc through the third and fourth book is starting to discover herself and with the help of her mother, figuring out she doesn't like Jason romantically like she thought she did.
Hazel's arc is gaining control over what she once was (dead). She's jealous her dad was there more for Nico than her, but she pushes past it and never lets her anger and grudges get the better of her which is like breaking boundaries for children of Hades/Pluto.
Frank's arc in HOH was really cool, I like that. So no change to that.
Jason, poor guy is still very much confused about everything really. He's used to being the leader, he feels lost in the large group. He has his moments to shine ofc (please take away his excess amounts of head injuries), but he starts to feel inferior, which is where Leo helps him bc the guy knows what that's like.
Anyway, in the absence of Percy and Annabeth, Jason has to take charge. He discovers he doesn't really like it. That's not what he was meant for even though he had greatness thrust upon him at a very young age.
His BOO arc is earlier this time and takes place throughout HOH and BOO. He's content with himself, even if he isn't with anyone. HE'S THE ONE THAT GETS SENT TO OGYGIA!!!
And Calypso eventually does fall for him bc he's smart, nice, and just an overall swell guy. But he helps her to realize that she can be content in herself as well. And he promises her that he'll help her.
Show me Leo, Jason and Percy trying to think of ways of helping the goddess.
In any case. BOO could have been like Iliad pt 2 also known as the Odyssey. It takes them the whole book just to get to Athens. Meanwhile, they've understood that Gaea is the main main villain. She's even raised some of the other primordials against them.
Percy and Annabeth already saw Tartarus, and then there's Oceanus who makes their travel much harder than necessary. Something something about how they get tossed all over the place and somehow manage to gather all the correct ingredients for the potion (i forgot the name lol) on their small adventures in the different places. In the end they finally make it to Athens. Except this time, there's only a few giants there bc they killed the rest before.
Annabeth and Percy are taken hostage, like it happens in the books, but PERCY WILLINGLY GIVES UP HIS BLOOD TO RAISE GAEA RATHER THAN LETTING ANNABETH GET HURT BC OF HIS FATAL FLAW LIKE ATHENA TOLD HIM WOULD HAPPEN EVENTUALLY!!
The Gods DON'T SHOW UP PLEASE!! That was so lameee. Why even do the whole quest if their mommies and daddies were going to show up to help them????
So while Percy and Annabeth are battling the remaining few Giants, Leo, Piper, Hazel and Frank go up against Gaia herself. In the old myths four titans held Ouranos down while Kronos chopped his essence up. In the same way, they battle Gaia away from her turf in the air, keeping her distracted enough. All these demigods are needed because she's a primordial dammit!
Jason, my guy, comes in a clutch, chops her to pieces and sends her essence to Tartarus!!
The world is saved, the end!

instead of a completely random girl created out of absolutely nothing u know who piper should've ended up with??? nyssa. a daughter of aphrodite w a daughter of hephaestus???? the symbolism?? both head consealors of their cabins?? the parallels of silena and beckendorf??? and that would've been an opportunity to deepen nyssa's character instead of just being leo's sister??? also piper & leo would've been not only besties but officially family??? the wasted material to possibly work with in writing????

Basic information for Bea’s PJO/Greek Riordanverse rewrite!
Hello! I’m Bea, and this blog is for talking about how the Greek (and sometimes Roman) gods impact the world building in my rewrite. You can read about the dynamics, cabins, and other information here! But first, lets explain some concepts and changes that will be kept in mind for the gods and their different demigod interactions.
1. All gods will be treated as completely different entities. If they have a different name and are from a different pantheon, they will have a different personality and dynamic, even if they share a lot in common with their Greek counterpart. This keeps everything more streamlined, and removes the annoying “splitting” arc from the books.
2. “Camp Half-Blood” and “half-bloods” are changed to “Camp Empeiria” and “demigods”. This is because the term “half-blood” has been used as a derogatory term, and thus I feel like it’s more appropriate to use something less loaded. The term “Empeiria” means “experience or practice”, and “demigod” has been used in the books before.
3. Not all gods will look/act the same as they do in canon! This is to reflect a different interpretation, and to also bring them closer to their myths (in some cases). This also gives more opportunity to have a wider range of different character dynamics.
Keep this in mind for when these things come up in the different god headcanons! Please use the “ask” feature to request any gods you’d like to see! Now, let’s have some fun!

Totally random but I regularly think about the fact that The Seven in Heroes of Olympus didn’t have a healer/medic. Like, they knew this was an important quest, and that it was going to be a long quest, and they basically went “so, let’s have 7 fighters, 3 of which are leaders :)” Which seems like a horrible plan.
(I know this wasn’t the characters faults, I just think it was a slightly odd writing choice from Rick)

the way Percy's friend group is literally -
4 monsters:
half-goat who's technically twice his age
one-eyed brother who's technically half his age
surprisingly lovely giant dog from hell
strangely devoted flying horse who can talk
and an odd assortment of people:
his mama
immortal lesbian who was a tree for a few years
scary buff girl who bullied him a little
autistic kid who radiates death and had a crush on him
nicest demigod ever whom he had a crush on before he... died
allegedly normal girl who now randomly tells the future
autistic girl who tried her absolute hardest to hate him then promptly fell in love with him. now they're soulmates
goddess of hearth
