Did you ever get caught up in parts of the projects that you enjoy doing (e.g. brainstorming with people) and missed the deadline? You are a great learner. Do you spend more time studying than necessary to complete your projects? Are you a high achiever? How much do you expect from yourself and others? How does it affect you and people around you? Result oriented? Do you get impatient and pushy, want things done immediately, even if they’re not urgent? Sleep deprivation has its detriments, it shouldn’t come as a surprise. But what most people don’t realise, the affects are not limited to one or two nights when you lacked sleep. It is much more potent than that. 🕐 Lack of sleep directly affects the pre-frontal cortex of the brain that is responsible for innovation, creativity, and above all self-control. 🕑 Sleep deprivation increases the flow of cortisol hormone, which increases our stress-levels. So the correlation between lack of sleep and being stressed out — let’s just say you’re not imagining it. 🕒 As your reasoning abilities are decreased, your attention span also gets affected without a good night’s sleep. It doesn’t matter if you have a lot to finish, you’ll find it hard to do so. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🕓 Irritability is another priced possession of sleep deprivation. If you feel short-tempered and annoyed after lack of sleep, it’s no coincidence. 😬 🕔 When you’re dealing with so much, physiologically, how can you ever hope to accomplish quality work really? Quality sleep not only helps us deal with everyday responsibilities but the lack of it, for an extended period of time, can cause permanent damages as well as increase the chances of diseases like cancer, dementia, and heart failure.
