This is your random reminder that your local library likely has a free app (or multiple!) where you can download all kinds of goodies for free. Books, audiobooks, movies, music, television shows, magazines, the list goes on. All free and you don't even have to leave the house to get them. I have borrowed and read like 200 books the last couple years from mine and didn't pay a dime. It's awesome. Go get your library app now!

A reminder that if physical books seem daunting, audiobooks are a wonderful place to start

Libraries are free and offer a wide variety of audiobooks to chose from, there's also many online archives of audiobooks (that I sadly can't share publicly due to copyright risks, i need my free books)

You'll retain it more than video essays, you can listen in the car, in the shower, at work, it's a wonderful way to consume books, it'll help grow your vocabulary and your critical thinking skills

But of course, ìts not an exact replacement for written word, but it's a good start to get back into books

You can start with stories you're familiar with in order to get back into the swing of things, Neil gaiman does an incredible job of narrating his own stories for audiobooks, Coraline is also short, a few hours of listening time

(Currently listening to "I'm not your perfect mexican daughter" for a gender studies class)

There's a lot of books out there, you don't have to start with the longest book you can find, nor do you have to jump right back into chapter books

Graphic novels are a great tool as well, many classical stories have been adapted into graphic novels, but there's also a plethora of interesting new worlds illustrated in comic form (Sardine the space pirate has an incredibly built world)

From an English teacher in training to yall, there's so many different ways to consume books, and books are fun!! So many stories that will never see the screen (or deeper dives into one's that's have) are just waiting for you

Libraries are free, you can request almost any book and they'll try and get it for you, and if your library doesn't have the physical copy, many libraries now offer online archives as well!
