wow, guys. what a beautiful and pleasant episode where no one was hurt, and no one felt guilty for having an affair with a married woman. "My father is being tortured by Nayib Bukele's dictstorship in El Salvador.

Atilio Montalvo, my father, is a 72 year old economist, war veteran, signer of the Peace Accords and a historical fighter for the civil rights here in my country. These days he sleeps in a 2x2 mts (6x6 ft) cell along with other 15 persons on the ground, malnourished, enduring cold weather, on pain and with a wound that every day gets infected with bacteria and infections.

My sir father, an elderly man, diabetic and with renal insufficiency that just survived a heart attack, is being accused of "terrorism". They have linked him to some "supposed attacks" that were going to happen during the inconstitutional presidential inauguration of dictator Bukele.

What can I tell you? The delirious regime of Bukele seems to have no limits, not in their cruelty nor in their fabrication of lies. He has demanded obedience from the people, to not complain and for us to swallow his bitter medicine.

If Bukele is the head of this dictatorship, the police, the prosecution office, the judges, the social welfare... They are all the hands that they use to serve us that medicine, one that is so bitter it turns into poison.

The saddest thing about this is that my dad's case is one among thousands. The fascists have always had the custom of taking advantage of broken societies by poverty, the gangs, to transform them into a delirious bunch with no capacity for empathy.

Its possible that he may die any day in the authority's hands; share this video, spread my dad's story.

Let the international community learn whats REALLY happening in El Salvador."

Es que, como dije anteriormente, todo fue muy sospechoso y de pana que las vibras del partido contra Uruguay no fueron nada bonitas.

Que horrible cuando mezclan el deporte con la política, es precisamente por eso que no me animé mucho después cuando los Olímpicos, más bien gracias a Dios no ganamos ni una medalla de bronce (que hayamos ganado en los paralimpicos es otra cosa). Pero en fin, si todos los partidos en casa serán así, pues qué lastima, puro marginal enchufado 🤷‍♀️

Book Review: Libertad by Bessie Flores Zaldívar

ARC provided by Penguin Teen (thanks!) Seventeen-year-old senior Libertad lives in Tegucigalpa, Honduras with her family. As the Honduran presidential election advances, Libertad must navigate her own identity amid tumultuous political and social circumstances.

Libertad is a book that will stay in the back of my mind for a long time. Zaldívar does an excellent job with writing about Libertad and her family’s home life, but also how that life intersects with and is affected by the decisions that the people in power make.

Libertad, her family, and her friends are beautifully flawed people. I love how Libertad herself was allowed to feel extreme emotions in response to the things that she was going through. We also get a glimpse into many other people’s lives and backgrounds, such as her older brother, Maynor, her mother, and her grandmother.

Throughout the novel, Libertad must grapple with her queer identity and what that means for her future in general, but also her future if she stays in Honduras. This theme, I think, will resonate with many queer readers, but especially queer readers who cannot come out safely.

One of the only criticisms that I had of the book is that I wish that we learned a little more about (and had POVS of) some of Libertad’s friends, like Cami or Valeria, who mentions that she’s queer once towards the end of the book, and then we don’t hear much more from her. Same with Dani; I liked her, but she seemed to serve as Libertad’s gateway to the queer community, and I just wish we got a pov from her or something more.

Libertad is out August 27th, and I absolutely recommend it.
