I like the second version the best, but for instagram pfp purposes, the boldness and larger signature of version 3 are more suitable. I also think I could do something more to version 1 to make it a larger piece, we'll see.

Have been seeing a lot of sentiments along the lines of "Li Lianhua deserves happy domesticity", expressed in GIFs and quotes etc. (to which - keep them coming because YES HE DOES), and I'm not sure what it was but eventually my brain went WAITAMINUTE he's like Xie Lian! So many parallels in their journey!

The meteoric rise and great fame at a young age.

The catastrophic fall.

Long years spent in relatively happy domestic anonymity...

... before being dragged back into world events and forced to re-engage with their past.

Being accompanied and helped (among others) by someone everyone thinks is a dangerous villain.

The real villain, who had a hand in engineering the prior downfall, turns out to be someone they thought they were close to.

Eventually, they settle their worldly entanglements and find peace on their own terms.

Bonus: There's a good pupper in both stories, of which one just happens to be a dangerous spiritual scimitar and the other is named after a being considered mischievous and occasionally potentially malevolent. Both are very loyal and very pettable.

Of course there are many notable differences between them, but the trajectories! Are so similar!

Characters who've shed their old selves, taken on new identities to hide, but are always oh so aware of who they once were. Trying to divide themselves into a clear Before and an After, which leaves them unable to recognise themselves as a culmination of their past and their present. They can only look at themselves through distorted reflections. They try to distance themselves from others, to remain undiscovered and unknown, but always make connections regardless. Relationships with those who know them beyond their current persona, who can see which aspects of old and new are true when they themselves cannot.
