CHARACTER POINTS:

+ If people were asked to describe Amelia Bones there is a good likelihood that vicious is going to come up in the conversation at one point or another. She doesn't settle for second best and she sure as hell isn't about to cave to someone else's whims just because she might not be their choice. And she'll do just about anything to get to where she needs to be.

+ The war didn't change the fact that she was more than certain that the Ministry wasn't doing enough to curb the riots and wasn't doing enough to further equality all around. Then again -- she also didn't have the solution either and she was more than aware of it anytime her and Kingsley would try to talk about, the knot that would grow in her stomach and the uncomfortable edge that she would get in her voice when she knew in her gut that everything was going to fall apart before anyone could fix it. And it wasn't going to be good.

+ Being out of control wasn't her strong suit, no matter where she was at, and while she was a regular visitor to the Hospital Wing for some calming drought, very few people knew about it -- two in fact, Edgar and Sirius -- that there were days that she bordered on having severe anxiety issues. There wasn't much that would fix it, but at least there were potions that would at least take the edge off of what she was worrying about.

CONNECTIONS

MARLENE MCKINNON - rival It wasn't as though Amelia didn't like Marlene so much as she was bothered that the woman seemed to feel as though she was entitled to everything and seemed to think she could do better than Amelia. Well, she sure as hell wasn't going to just bow to the whim of someone like McKinnon even if there was the occasional comment about how they may want to cool the rivalry and leave that for the Gryffindors. Still -- she knew that there were things that she could learn from Marlene, subtlety for one and the way that a quiet word can sometimes mean more than a scream.

SIRIUS BLACK - close friend Uncomplicated seemed to be what Sirius Black did best and even his best friend's death didn't seem to change that, it did however seem to change just how vicious he could be and how driven he was. While they'd met when he made it clear he though Astronomy was a load of bullshit, their friendship had gone well past that in the last three years and now Amelia was at more of a loss than ever at how to soothe the pain that was going on while the pair have been pulling back from each other.

KINGSLEY SHACKLEBOLT - boyfriend It wasn't entirely the rivalry with Marlene that caused her to date the woman's best friend, at least that's what she keeps telling herself. She can definitely say that's not the reason why she's still in the relationship though. They get along fantastic and she feels lighter when she's with him, like there is less pressure to be someone or do something with her life when she's with Kingsley. He might understand what it's like coming from a family that revolves around one particular career but he certainly isn't the one to push her harder to go into politics and she loves that about him.

IT’S JUST SO.....triumphant? like obvs it’s tinged with sadness because it was a very real period of history but also like...........it was a very real period of history? that had a meaningful impact on people’s lives and people in the UK?

like, this country is so exhausting to live in that it just feels great to be able to watch something based off of something that actually happened here and actually.....feel proud? which, it’s called ‘pride’, so like, obvs. but like. it’s amazing to watch something that pin points ‘here. here is where we made progress, even if it might look small, or big, or whatever’ and that feels very powerful.

and like, obviously it feels great watching films like that about any country, but there’s something about it being set here, and it being a part of our history, and our country, that just kind of...connects, in a nice way that i didn’t really think i was missing until i watched it.

i skim-read an autostraddle article about it like 2 days ago or whatever about how , for a film that’s so largely ignored globally, its symbols and its history have, since the film was released, become staples of UK pride events , and how powerful that is. and it’s true!! at pride this year i saw a group march with a huge banner saying “LGSR: Lesbians & Gays Support the Refugees”.

idk it’s just. i love that film and the impact it had, even if it was just an impact on our country and not anywhere else. and i would love for it to have an impact elsewhere too. it deserves to be a classic  and to have the recognition carol got
