I’m back lol. So as we know, you love Sid (I totally get why!) but now here’s another question…

WHAT’S YOUR SHIPS FOR SID (if you have any) AND DO YOU HAVE ANY HEADCANONS OF SID!??

(I love it so much when people come back to my askbox again and again, it makes me feel so loved, thank you Mar)

There's 4 people that I ship him with!

Sid/Gene: childhood lovers, all of their firsts are with each other, there's no bashfulness so they know literally everythin that makes the other go bonkers in bed. Before their service years, it was very sweet and frantic, the 'this is so wrong but it feels so good' feelin was still fresh. After the war, it turned a little dark -not too dark- and Sid became a sort of authority figure for Eugene, givin Gene an outlet for his new need to serve. It also helps soothe the slipping feelin Sidney gets at times; like none of his efforts amount to anything. The visual proof of Eugene relaxing and dropping into a submissive headspace gives Sidney a sense of control, it allows him to focus on Eugene and his needs, and meetin those needs is the most satisfyin thing for Sid.

Sidney/Hoosier: idk I always got the feeling that Hoosier was an important person to Sid, like he looked up to Bill, and then Bill realized that and felt a need to protect and guide Sid. This is all based on the scene at the end of the first episode where Hoosier asks how old Sidney is turning, I look at Hoosier's face as Sidney says 18 and I see NEED and WANT and ACHE in his eyes in every scene after that they share.

Sidney/Chuckler & Sidney/Runner: I just think they're cute together. That's it. With Lew I can see Sid letting Chuckler take a bit more control, more so in the way of learning from Lew and not so much the Dom/Sub type dynamic that Sid/Gene, and Sid/Hoosier have. Like Chuckler is teaching him how to be with a man, and Sidney is so eager to know everything about it. With Runner it's very much giggly-handsy-goofy intimacy, they're making mistakes and laughing about it, maybe accidentally hurting each other a little but it's okay because they both make it up to each other later with softness and jokes and the giddy "I can't believe we're doing this god it feels so good" strangling feeling

FOR THE HEADCANONS YES I HAVE MANY BUT THEY'RE SO DUMB-

It took him so long to learn how to ride a bike, Eugene made fun of him ofc but he also held him upright while Sid peddled very slowly until he could get enough momentum to go on his own. His primary way of stopping was jumping off into the grass, hey, the brakes were scary!

He is a Mama's Boy to the end. "Sorry, my mama said no." "Mama would love these flowers, Gene slow down, I need to pick these." "Good morning Mama, I cut up some fruit for you for breakfast." THE LIST GOES ON- He loves her with all his heart.

Him and Mary have an open relationship (very progressive for the 40s-50s I knowwwww) and they both know about each others attraction to their own genders: Mary has a couple of girls she messes around with, and Sid of course has Eugene. Sid, Mary, and Gene had a discussion about Gene joining them in bed, but Eugene is very much not into women. He assured Mary that she is still stunning as ever, just not his cup of tea these days, he'd have jumped all over the chance when he was 16 but now? No, but thank you Mrs. Houston-Phillips.

He builds and donates bird and bat houses to the local town hall, where people can pick one or two up and hang them in place of a recently downed tree. Sid is a sucker for flighted animals, it drives Mary crazy sometimes, all the chirping and squallering from birds at the bird feeders Sid has hung outside every window, but they make Sid happy so she always picks up a bag of bird feed every time she heads into town, just to see Sid's eye light up at her thoughtfulness.

That's just a couple that I can actually put into words lmao

Ronnie Gibson and Stella Karamanlis, for example, seem to be based off of real people Leckie encountered during the war, but were not their actual names. Others, like minor officers in both K and H companies, and the doctors Leckie sees, I just couldn't track down. We could locate the birthdays of Sledge's family (brother and parents) but since we couldn't do the same for Leckie and Basilone, we left them off this list. They're two more Scorpios and another Virgo, by the way.

Photos: South Korea beat Australia 2-1 to reach semifinals

South Korea has advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Cup with a 2-1 comeback win over Australia in extra-time at Al Janoub Stadium, after Son Heung-min scored the winner with a sublime free kick.

Australia had beaten South Korea by the same scoreline in extra-time in the 2015 final to lift their first Asian Cup. But during Friday’s match, it was the East Asian team who prevailed after netting yet another goal in stoppage time to force extra-time.

Australia had taken the lead just before half-time when they cleverly switched flanks with neat passes in the box. Then, a cross from Australian player Nathaniel Atkinson found teammate Craig Goodwin, who had time to set himself up for a successful volley into the bottom corner.

Forward Martin Boyle could have made it 2-0 when he received a cross into the box, but goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo made two saves to deny him. Mitchell Duke’s volley from the rebound, meanwhile, went over the bar to give South Korea a reprieve.

South Korea coach Juergen Klinsmann made a tactical change in the second half, pushing Son further forward. The strategy worked when Son, a Tottenham Hotspur forward, was fouled in the box by Australia’s Lewis Miller in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Hwang Hee-chan stepped up: The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward took his time to calm his nerves before he fired his effort into the top corner to force extra-time — their fourth goal after the 90th minute at the tournament.

It was the second straight game for South Korea going to extra-time, after they beat Saudi Arabia on penalties. This time, Hwang won a free kick on the edge of the box from a foul conceded by Miller once again.

Son stepped up and saw his effort sail past the wall, beating goalkeeper Mathew Ryan to find the net. The goal sparked a wild celebration, with Klinsmann letting out a roar with his arms raised.

Australia’s attempts to fight back suffered a blow when Aiden O’Neill was sent off after a video assistant referee (VAR) review for a foul on Hwang, reducing Graham Arnold’s side to 10 men for the second half of extra-time where they could not find an equaliser.

it was always the quiet ones.

men who hid in the corners of bars, drinking in silence, observing the room instead of dancing with their friends or playing darts. they made it their mission to scope out others and figure their story out. it just so happened y/n was the same.

fresh off the ship to australia, bars were filled with many replacements and veterans. y/n, being a combat medic from europe, replaced company how’s deceased. not a job for the light-hearted or the weak. she earned it. years of front lines in europe trained her for the pacific, at least she thought it did.

it was hotter than she expected. stopping herself from ripping her own skin off, she entered the bar closest to the dock. it wasn’t much but cars lined the street and many soldiers wandered in the moonlit roads drunk. rather dangerous, and y/n was off duty.

entering the bar, the smell of liquor filled her senses. it was familiar and calming, although it reeked of different alcohols mixed together. it was disgusting, but working and living with soldiers, you’d expect nothing less on a day off. one week was their limit. the whole battalion had one week to train, relax, drink, have sex, anything before being thrown back in.

groups of soldiers gathered, a circle bar in the middle of the room with walls lined with all kinds of alcohol. it was her kind of scene. making her way to the bar, y/n nodded to the bartender and asked for a drink, which he obliged.

taking a seat, y/n scoped the place. clouded with smoke, chatter, laughter and the horrible singing of drunken soldiers. there was nothing out of the ordinary for a night out. thanking the bartender, she grabbed the drink and took a sip, and glanced around. there it was. the quiet one.

a soldier sat at one of the tables, surrounded by others talking as he stirred his drink mindlessly. he was peculiar. his eyes were deep,his jaw was strong and defined, while emotion left no trace. he seemed busy in his own mind, but it sparked a curiosity y/n normally didn't act on. it was rare to see a soldier left with his own thoughts in complete silence. knowing from europe, y/n never liked to. it brought too much uncertainty and anxiety to an already redundant schedule.

she didn't notice she was staring until she caught his eyes. head-on they were much more intense. they shadowed behind lashes and brow bone, his gaze hinted with hunger. dropping her eyes, y/n turned toward the bar and downed her glass. she just got here and she felt like a whore. she was there to help her company and thats it. not sleep with someone the first night in melbourne.

in honesty, she didn't know the last time she got laid. it was years ago and with a war going on, it was hard finding time to do anything remotely pleasurable. that being from having alone time and having sex. it was foreign to her, the gazes, the talks, the touch, it was like learning to walk all over again. it required practice, which she was out of touch with.

“hey bill, can I get another beer please,” said a man beside her. glancing, it was him. the man from the table. he turned his head toward her and y/n blanked.

“may i ask the name of my secret admirer?” he asked, causing y/n to blush.

“uh, y/n l/n,” said y/n. wow, great job.

the man chucked and thanked the bartender, taking a swig of his bottle. she was horribly smitten by him, y/n didn't know if by lust or inexperience.

“well, miss l/n,” he started, leaning close to her ear, “would you like to join me for a drink?”

glancing over to the table of rowdy soldiers, y/n wanted to decline the offer, but found herself saying the exact opposite.

“only if you're buying,” said y/n, causing the man to laugh and nod at her offer.

“anything for the woman of my dreams,” y/n rolled her eyes at his compliments. something all the girls must hear from him. “alright, settle down there soldier, i don't even know your name.”

“and you still agreed to have a drink with me,” he retorted, y/n opened her mouth but closed it, “lewis juergens, sweetheart.”

“well, private juergens-”

“corporal juergens.”

y/n rolled her eyes again, soldiers and their ranks. but she couldn't judge, she was the same when it came to chain of command, always stating her rank to get some goddamned respect. seems the only way she got respect was through ranks and not for being a woman.

“i don't got all night corporal, are you buying or not?” lewis chuckled and lead the way to a quieter corner of the room. she could be fiesty when she wanted to, the glint in his eyes sparked as she spoke. they sat at a secluded seating area with dim lighting. it was enclosed and had wrap-around seating with a table in the middle.

taking a seat opposite of lewis, y/n relaxed as the music got quieter and chatter ceased the further they were from the entrance. soon it was just the two of them, alone.

looking up from her hands, she saw lewis look away quickly and save himself by taking a sip. it made her giddy. years of sweat, blood, and tears and she finally had the feeling of someone admiring her. the butterflies taking over her stomach as she leaned against the table and sparked conversation.

it started out with random things like movies and comics. tv shows and music turning into hot debates of which singer was the best, which she won. but lewis didn't put up a fight when debating. it went on for hours, the drinks ceased to exist as there debates and conversations took up most of the time. y/n could swear she was sober by the time she looked at the clock.

it was way past the time she was supposed to report to her officer. she was going to be in so much shit, but she didn't care. h company could wait and so can its captain.

“its fun to have someone actually understand things you love,” said lewis. y/n enjoyed it too. “i know this may sound weird and creepy, but we can leave if you want? catch a tram or walk around.”

it didn't sound like a bad idea. but the rising excitement raged inside her. appealing to someone was a crave for years. and the one time she does, she has to reject his idea.

“im sorry, i don't want to go for a walk. just with travelling and arriving in melbourne, i just dont think i’ll be up to it.”

lewis’ smile dropped. it was slight but can clearly see the shift in his mood. it wasn't that he got annoyed or mean, rather he didn't know what to do next. y/n bit the inside of her lip at the silence that clouded the atmosphere. it lasted longer than anticipated.

“i assume you're heading back then? or just going to stick around?” asked lewis. she didn't know. she should probably go. after rejecting the man, it was probably the best idea, to save them both from embarrassment.

“i’m probably going to go…” said y/n, getting up from the booth, “i have a big day tomorrow, probably shouldn't be tired.”

lewis nodded in agreement and toyed with his beer bottle before getting up also and huffing. looking up at him, y/n sent a small apologetic smile. he was truly a nice guy and the best date shes been on in awhile. lewis returned the smile and leaned in close as he passed by her.

“if you change your mind,” said lewis, breathing against her ear. “you know where to find me.”

with that, he walked away and turned to her, walking backwards toward the table of his friends, sending a wink. y/n shook her head at him. there was something magnetic between them, she wanted to run up to him and kiss him, but that was forward, even for a medic’s standard.

the music got louder and chatter became unbearable. maybe it was time for a change of scenery. or just to get away from her growing embarrassment. she headed for the door. glancing back at him, he faced away, listening to his friends talk, or at least that's what it looks like. she should've felt relieved about the situation, about the nice man and his offer, but she wasn't.

exiting the bar, she shivered at the slight wind of the night. the streets were lively, with the time of night, it was surprising. trams passed every twenty minutes and people wandered aimlessly, drunk or not down the road.

walking down the street, y/n thought back lewis. how his smile sent shivers down her spine and his laughter lifting her heart in this damned war. she wanted it. she couldn't even distract herself or find an indecent intention behind it. she needed to do something, but her thoughts lingered on him. his lips when pressed against the bottle, his stares full of hunger and lust. he was a soldier, and boy, she knew the hunger of a soldier.

it was wrong and horrible. but she decided. turning on her heel, she sauntered back into the bar and spotted him, still facing away from the door. that was about to change. the new found confidence was scary, but fitting for her needs, now all she had to do was not mess it up.

walking over to the man, she gently placed a hand on his shoulder and his head turned slightly. he looked up and there it was again, the same fiery look. it stopped y/n in her tracks. the confidence slipping from her grasp, but she caught it just in time. he sent her a smile and got up from the chair, bidding goodnight to his friends and holding her hand.

“i see youre taking up my offer,” he said, holding her hand tightly, “but dont get me wrong, i can be a decent guy.”

for the first time in awhile, y/n laughed. it wasnt much of what he said but more of her decision and what she was going to do.

“and i can be a decent woman.” said y/n.

“i guess for tonight, were neither.”
