Muggle college AU where Harry sneaks into tom’s dorm room (after making sure to drug tom’s water earlier ofc) and takes pictures of him while he sleeps and posts them online. because god fucking dammit, Tom riddle is the most annoying RA that could possibly exist, and he wants a little bit of light revenge.

Harry realizes that “light revenge” may have gotten out of hand around the same time he started stripping Tom, and suddenly he was balls deep in both Tom riddle and a felony. The gravity of the situation did nothing to prevent Harry from taking a video, even though it was just more evidence that could be used against Harry.

What are your thoughts on the language acquisition of the uruks!

I feel like black speech MUST be their first language, and the language spoken around camp/family units, but there were scenes like in S1 where Adar is speaking to a crowd in (what I assume) is common tongue. Are little Uruk children learning both at the same time? Is common only taught to uruks who would interact with outsiders (for prisoner communication, espionage info gathering, understanding foes during battle, etc) and not to maybe domestic minded Uruks who only stay within the colony?

@emillelavender Um hi, so may I just say that I ADORE that all of your asks make me want to write, like, FULL BLOWN DISSERTATIONS!!??

So I DO have A LOT of thought on this and how language would have evolved for Adar and his children. Now, given that this is Tolkien's domain, I should disclaim that I'm not anywhere close to being well-versed in linguistics and I don't claim to have dived super deep into Tolkien's own con-langs, so take this for the speculation that it is.

BUT... here's how I think language went down.

So, as I understand it, the first elves to be captured spoke a primitive form of Quenya. I think the Black speech developed in Utumno first as a way for Morgoth to communicate with his minions (I'm assuming it was a twisted, bastardized form of Valarin).

In my headcanon, the corruption of the first elves was a long, slow process. Adar and the others would have been spoken to at all hours in the language of Morgoth, so that it supplanted the primitive Quenya and became their primary form of communciation.

HOWEVER, I think Adar in particular never lost the connection to his mother tongue. I think he gave himself the name "Adar" (in my fic, there are words in Black speech for "king"/"lord"/"master", but there would have been no words to describe nuclear family dynamics, so hence, he supplied an elven word for "father".)

Along the way, I think he probably leaned on the primitive Quenya to supply words that didn't exist in Black speech (for example: LOVE. Which you KNOW wouldn't have been in Morgoth's vernacular). They probably evolved to be more guttural because I think the uruks would struggle with Elvish, but I choose to believe that there are a lot of Elvish root words in what Adar's children speak, solely because of him.

Then Morgoth starts taking prisoners, so I think that yes, some of the uruks who were guarding the prisoners would pick up whatever they were speaking, and that knowledge was probably kept and selectively passed down.

In Awake, Arise, Magrot is one character who has a knack for picking up languages, and Adar has him doing a lot of prisoner interrogations in the Southlands. Adar also teaches Elvish to Vrak, an OC character of mine who had an uncommon interest in elven culture, so yes, there were some bi- and tri-lingual Uruks. Adar's firstborn, Mazul, also uses Elvish with him at some very specific points in the story.

But for the most part, I think the majority would speak Black speech, and Adar would have spoken Black speech to them almost exclusively. (That pre-battle speech to the Uruk crowd in S1 Ep 6 should have been in Black speech, but for i'm sure the showrunners not wanting to be arsed to translate all of that!)

I know you must be inundated with anons but I also like TTTE as an adult but like a “watches the old show on YT and has some trains on shelves” amount not a “engages with fandom online” amount and I was SHOCKED and wracking my brain trying to figure out what event that Gordon and skeleton Henry could be fanart of 😭 so in a sense I am relieved it’s an au thing. YEAH LOL the angst stuff I conjure up is part of my AU called casa tidmouth... basically take ttte and make the engines human and add psychological dramedy stuff with resurrections and gold dust and stuff going on underneath the surface.

if you want an explanation for that art: in casa tidmouth, henry died during the flying kipper crash, got transported to the shining time world, met lady, was resurrected by her using the gold dust after he's in a coma for 3 days in the real world, then everything goes fine. maybe. because gordon is so insanely paranoid (he has way too much issues I don't know where to start) and due to many events throughout his life he's immediately upset whenever things don't go the way they're supposed to go. this paranoia made him believe there's something wrong with henry (many characters in cstm have some kind of psychosis UHHHH DON'T MIND ME) but really henry is... henry. he just has golden eyes now. which ALSO upsets henry because gordon is acting apprehensive all of a sudden. "why are you making MY accident all about YOU" this all happened before the events of the main story so by the time casa tidmouth has started, gordon and henry's relationship is strained. but they depend on and love each other so badly but they'd rather eat their own fingers rather than talk it out properly (they do later in the story tho). hope you enjoy

First of all, I think that if he's inventor/CEO of an app as successful as Hinge Ignite, he's never *that* busy.

However, there are a handful of times where he calls into meetings that he just can't miss. It's boring stuff, and it all could have been an email, but he just turns his mic and camera off, and listens in.

You're his princess. You can't stand the half hour he spends focused on something else.

He feigns annoyance, and digs his hands into your thighs. He bounces you, maybe calls you dumb in his soft, sweet, British accent. He tells you you're dumb, and you can't do anything yourself. He bounces his leg, hitting you just right, catching any pitiful gasps or whines in his mouth. It wasn't your fault you were such a 'desperate slut', he's just too good with his hands!

And then he kicks you off his lap, right as you get close. You get a peck on the cheek and a "Daddy's busy" and you want to scream.

You give him your most pathetic puppy dog eyes, and you get smacked in the ass before you flee from the room.
