The Lady Bugs Re: Names

I always think we miss a trick giving The Female Beatles (or, if I may, The Lady Bugs) names like Paula and Georgia instead of something new. What follows is a detailed proposal (not really) for The Lady Bugs Re: Names.

RINGO

I always like the idea of Roxanne Starkey -> Roxy Starr (as a little pun on rockstar), but I think you also have to consider the possibility that she just goes by Starr all by itself. I'm not sure mononymous celebrities were a thing back then, but maybe she starts an early trend and next thing you know everyone's doing it. Like all trends, it would eventually become cringey, but Starr wouldn't notice or care.

GEORGE

Given that this is The Catholic Beatle, my first thought is Geo -> Jo -> St Joanna. But imho the female counterpart to St George is actually St Margaret, who, while she never fought a dragon, was eaten and barfed up by a dragon. I know that doesn't sound too great, but female saints almost never get to do anything cool so dragon vomit is actually pretty exciting.

PAUL

Wouldn't it be SO fucked up if her name was Julia? To just crystallize in the most heavy-handed, on-the-nose way possible that all of Girljohn’s relationships with women are in the shadow of her grief for never having had a positive maternal figure. But this is supposed to be about Girlpaul, not Girljohn, and Paul's full name is James Paul McCartney II so Girlpaul can be named Mary Patricia after her mother and go by Patricia or Patty.

JOHN

It’s tempting to give her an alluring, urbane name, but I really do feel she's one of these girls who wasn't given a name that suits her and has to cycle through a few options before she hits a good one. Kind of a Ladybird thing, except Girljohn would never idolize Ladybird Johnson, who is the only Ladybird I can ever think of. As a teenager she'd favor names from mythology and literature, Cassandra and Morganna and such, and then settle on something elegant, unique, and a tiny bit salacious, like Electra (a la the Electra complex). Regardless, Mimi will pointedly call her Marge, and Electra won't stand up to her.

Even here in Nouveau Lotus Pier.#Ah...Lan Wangji never got a chance to see the Lotus Pier of Wei Wuxian's childhood and adolescence...did he?#It's not the same. He's not the same. Call them by the same name and people will know what you mean...#...but the first version - the one with the fond memories - is gone for good.#It's sort of interesting isn't it? How names can hold so much power and still be hollow?#We often get stuck over past versions of things. Be it ourselves or other people or places.#Change is scary but the truth is nothing ever stays the same. It's always moving. You're always moving.#It's okay to mourn the past. As a former horse girl I love the Binghorses drawn by @meltedmush because every weird and cryptid suggestion and art of them just existing makes me stop and go: no wait horses will just do that. Horses are so weird. Horse behavior is so much

Horses will just stare at you through a window and if they're smart they can figure out certain doors. There is a specific kind of surreal of watching a horse walk into your house that is both very cute and cursed. SQQ could totally wake up to a Binghorse having broken into his house and staring at him

Horses also are weird and poorly designed biologically so if they sit for too long they can actually crush their organs and won't be able to stand up again. So I can see SQQ fretting over a bingfoal and asking if they're okay. Also they don't have the ability to sense being full. It is completely possible for a horse to eat too much and die. So again fretting mother hen SQQ planning special Binghorse diet only for Binghorse to come back and drop a dead bird in front of him.

It is completely plausible that SQQ can look up one day and see a binghorse sitting in a tree. Both cows and horses will climb trees. Goats too. I don't know why. They just will. The horse loose in a hospital bit is funny because horses on their own will just do that. They do just end up in places. It feels absurd but it's true. Getting jumped scared by a Binghorse totally believable.

Imagine that SQQ sees a Binghorse with a broken leg! The death knell of any normal horse. He can frett over those beautiful terribly designed legs as Binghorse is kept suspended in a swing thing.

And then the moment you combine omnivore snatch hunter it gets even funnier because I'm certain a real horse would if it could. The fact that people are in any way convinced horses are just cute and sweet and not weird terrifying little horrors of biology will never not be funny.

Small but significant character moments that I actually really adore are from both the times we see the boys as tots. There is a reoccurrence that happens in both of them that I find so incredibly interesting.

For the turtle tot short, Splinter leaves the boys with weapons. In the short, Raph is the one who suggests they do “what Lou Jitsu would do” and Leo is the one who takes point when Splinter comes back to reprimand them. Leo, in taking point, is the one to defend them and get Splinter off their tails.

And then, in the flashback regarding the Kuroi Yōroi helmet, Raph is the one who grabs and throws “Skully” as a way to replace their missing ball which breaks it into pieces, but Leo is the one who speaks for the group and rushes into action to fix the teapot.

I love this for multiple reasons, but the biggest are how it shows that Raph has always been inclined toward the bold and fun and making the plans to include his brothers in what he loves and believes they’d love, whereas Leo has always been inclined to be the “Face” of the group and shoulder the attention even if it’s potentially negative all while coming up with on the spot attempts to fix the situation.

*cracks knuckles* we know Tyler isn’t the original Clancy right? Y’all caught that? Clancy’s bishop was Keons, Tyler’s is Nico, and now “Clancy” is Tyler. Because “scaled and icy” is an anagram for “Clancy is dead” and that album was the one where dema was using Tyler’s popularity for their own purposes. Clancy failed to stop the cycle on his own, and despite already being used as a figurehead for dema, Tyler decided to take up the role of “Clancy” in the wake of what seemed like a total collapse of the Banditos. Their leader had been taken out, and now they had no one to organize them.

But Tyler taking on the name Clancy isn’t him taking on the role of leader or even organizer. He is showing us (the Banditos) that we all can be our own inspiration, we don’t need a figure to follow, we don’t need a leader to lead us. We can do this, fight dema, ourselves.

Y’all got that, right?
