Spy tf2 and his identity
Character analysis (or at least my vision on him, if you believe my reasoning)
What do we know about Spy? He's a disguise mastermind. He can pretend to be anyone in order to infiltrate into the scene to do his job - quite literally, stab people on the back. But when he's not in the battle, what is he to his teammates? A suave Frenchman, a gentleman with taste, somewhat a leader.
At least, that's the persona he prefers to show. But is he really..?
What if I tell you that this person never drops his disguise?
For a man who always wears a mask and who's identity being secret is a sacred part of his role in this job, isn't this persona too much to show if it is real? Frenchman, rich, ladykiller... Wouldn't it be too easy to decipher his identity with so much clues provided? Wouldn't it be dangerous?
While Miss Pauling and the Administrator definitely know Spy's real identity, hiding it is a major thing for whatever reason. One could assume it might be because of Scout (obvious guess) but I doubt he's a sole reason. Spy very much enjoys being the Spy all by himself. Do what's the deal?
Let's start from the beginning.
Why did Spy join Mann Co. in the first place?
Let's take this assumption as a fact: people come here out of desperation. They are professionals in their field, yet in their past/casual life there is a pattern of them having difficulties that push them into joining this service. I don't see why Spy would be an exception.
The reason for joining is usually money. Some people question why Spy, a wealthy man from higher society, would join Mann Co. if he has it all already.
Well, probably because he really does not.
Have you ever met an aristocrat? Wealthy people don't get so protective about their expensive suits, they can afford cleaning or a new one. Regardless, rich people don't usually get stingy about material goods, especially if they're mass produced.
At least, not those who were born into wealth.
Spy's defensiveness about his "wealthy stuff", his pomp-ness, disgust and arrogance towards "plebs" gives off a man who knows what it means to live in poverty and who doesn't want to be associated with it ever again.
(Not even talking about his own filthy habits such as not washing his mask and pissing on walls? Jesus Christ)
Dare I even guess that he might be not French at all? His French is so broken. (Although, so is Medic's German, but at least he uses his language much more frequently and in more complex sentences, while Spy only uses French to say some basic expressions, occasionally confusing them with other languages). Definitely not a native.
If anything, he's not giving "rich man" at all, he's giving con man. And that fits my picture perfectly.
So, poor upbringing. How old is Spy? If he's Scout's father (and he was young when he was conceived), I'd say he's no less than 20 years older than him. I'd give him a few more years actually. So, approximately Spy is around 50 at the events of the game (1968-1972). Let's assume he was born somewhere in the 1910s.
Even if he's not French, I still agree that he's probably European. Hmm, what was happening in Europe at the time Spy was a kid?
Oh yeah. The Great Depression.
See my picture: imagine, a child from a lower class family during the Great Depression, his parents were most likely to not take good care about him (both because of the economical situation AND as an echo to Spy's struggles with his own fatherhood). He has to run away from home early and start to make money. Any way possible.
Unavoidably, it leads to crime.
Petty theft, blackmail, scams. Changing identities. Selling low quality products and services. Changing identities again. When older, seducing rich women to stay at their homes overnight, be fed and supported. Running away from the police. Walking into a trap of the mafia, and then joining them as their goon.
In this nightmare of a life he just had to keep pretending to be someone else, someone better and stronger, in order to his ego to not completely shutter. He had to imagine he was an invincible mastermind trickster of some sort, not just a poor boo-hoo victim of poverty who has never knew normal life and care.
And if you pretend for long enough, you become your role eventually... Right?
His true self was long lost forgotten under many layers of new identities. Worse, his true self was never known. And he didn't want it to be known in its ugly and disgusting vulnerability. Narcissism became his lifeline.
It's so much better to be Spy. To be rich and elegant and respected. His ego rebuilt.

When Denise Villeneuve asked you about the role of Lady Margot Fenring, you were genuinely shocked about his decision. You appreciated his works but have never gotten close to any of his sets before. You have worked with directors who've admired Villeneuve for his imaginative mind. And now, you witnessed his creativity in person for the first time.
The role was small and not as significant as the other main leads. Regardless, your character was just as enigmatic and complex as any other in the Dune franchise. Even though your time was short, it was a fun experience to learn and observe from. You weren't able to meet the entire cast after production, but with the NYC premiere, you were able to link up again.
You heard your name being called out. "Hello! How are you?" The well-known comedian and presenter by the name of Amelia Dimonberg was now beside you. In her jet-black corset dress, her style is chic and elegant. She hands you a microphone with the film's title plastered on it. "You look beautiful!"
"Thank you!" you sweetly recuperate, diverting your shoulders to the sight, cutely. You give a little pose before complimenting her own outfit. "You as well!"
"Do you have a memorable day on set that sticks out to you?" Amelia questions, subtly leaning toward your direction. And now you noticed her detailed eye makeup which enhances her outfit altogether.
"Well- I've had, like, only a few days," You let out a quick sigh. Truly it was nothing to be embarrassed about but you could not help but feel shy about it.
"Mmhmm! So all of them?"
"Yeah, all of them!" With ease, your shyness turns into giddy laughter as all you remember from your times on set. Recalling those tiny moments brought a small smile to your face. "Every day counted for me and that was enough."
"Oh absolutely!" Amelia chides, nodding in agreement. She quickly then moves onto the next question, "How long do you think you could last in the actual desert?"
"Oo that's a tough question," Lifting your fingers to rest on your chin as you try to contemplate an answer. "Ideally no- I feel like I could never recover from the heat."
"Yes yes, the heat's very intense,"
"Yeah- no I don't think I'd ever leave my house for that-" You shake your head nonchalantly, acknowledging how most of your scenes already were indoors. You could imagine how you would do in the desert of Abu Dhabi. It makes you appreciate the cast and crew even more for their effort to make filming more comforting and tolerable.
"Where would be your dream location to hang out? I'm assuming your home then since you prefer to say inside?" The blonde interviewer quickly catches on, eyebrows raising intrigued by your response.
Instead, you hummed bashfully, "Actually I think an oasis would be nice." The camera catches onto Amelia's face, fully fixated on you. "Which fits perfectly if I were to live in the desert actually!"
"Mm yeah, smart choice!" She responds more cheerily. "You can maybe go for a swim, you know-"
"Right right," You give her an playful look, "And you don't have to go thirsty!"'
"Absolutely, the best of both worlds," Amelia chirps, doing the same expression. "So this film centers a lot around dreams. Do you have vivid dreams of yourself?"
"Yes! I've uh- I've had many dreams of myself. I mean, this one, for example-" You turn to the camera, waving with the most adorable smile on your face. "'I'm living my dream right now!"
"You're living your dream right now!"

In another section of the premiere, you were walking down the carpet for press interviews and photography. The set where the premiere was taking place was gorgeously made in the shades of black and orange, the perfect theme of the film. The entire venue was outdoors, allowing you to feel the cold air and be more at ease in the crowded space. There were more paparazzi than you had expected, and you suddenly became aware that you were alone. Without any friend or acquaintance to accompany by, you searched aimlessly for a familiar face.
Then there was a holler. And then multiple more came after, it made you confused really. Your head swerves to the sound of the person you so try to look for and immediately you're struck in awe.
"Anya?!" In an instant, you're seen running towards your sister in the far back of the premiere wall. People were reluctantly used to fast-paced relocations around the carpet. Therefore most did not mind your hasty stumbles through the crowd. It was almost comical how apparent your demeanor changed when you heard her, in fact, videos and pictures caught all of it.
"Hi!" She beams in her white dress robe. Her makeup was glowing, making her skin seem angelic, and sheer without impurities. Her outfit covers her like a nun, covering her head and body in almost transparent cloth. Yet it flows around her so elegantly, almost like she was an angel from the stars. She squeezes your figure firmly, only after releasing to gush about your appearance.
You adored a beige sleeveless jumpsuit. The color is complimented with tiny designs of sparkle. Its seams captured your figure perfectly, as you also wore a gold chain and bulky rings. From the lighting, it looks as though your outfit is shining. And to be completely honest, you prefer comfort over the judging looks of fashion critics. Therefore you wanted to wear something that you could still move comfortably in. Thus you were able to run over to your sister with ease.
Through the other lens and camera, they could pick up some of her words after. "You look so gorgeous! How are you here?!" Anya's expression changes into a perplexed one as she gets a hold of your shoulders, shaking them back and forth.
"I was invited obviously, "You said, mimicking her voice while holding onto her arms on yours. "You didn't tell me you were a part of Dune!" Viewers from afar could tell you were pushing an act, reacting as though you were petrified about how Anya managed to be here in the first place.
"I didn't know you were either!" She giggled, closing in on your right ear. Your sister whispers to you slowly, trying to withdraw from the camera and recordings. "Villeneuve had mentioned something but honestly I just thought it was a joke."
It was your turn to guff. Your mouth opens wide flabbergasted, looking sarcastically offended. "Why would you think he's joking?!"
Anya scoffs lightly, wanting to go further with the joke. "I don't know- I just didn't take his word seriously,"
"Why? Because you didn't think I'd make it into the film?" You accused, eyes widening with a hand over your heart. "You're so cruel."
"So cruel," She smirks up at you, then moves back to be by your side. You see her face forward the flashing cameras, as you do the same. "Come! Let's take some pictures!"

"Your outfit looks beautiful by the way!" Anya Taylor muses, eyeing down at the fine details on your jumpsuit. "It's very... you!"
You give her a nod, before flattening some of the creases, "I thought this color was so exquisite, so I thought it would be perfect for the premiere." You lift your head to look at your sister, before realizing behind her, the upcoming stars of the film were getting ready to take cast photos. "Oh Anya- I think you should go!"
Your sister turns and then gazes back at you with a soft smile. "You should come with me!"
The thunder of cameramen and journalist blurred your focus for a moment. "Are you sure-"
Again the sound of your name is hurdled but this time from someone you haven't seen in a long time. Jessica Ferguson, who too wears a black body suit with veils and bold makeup. She waves her hand almost too eagerly to have you come closer alongside your sister. "Come, join us!"
Videos were filmed of the people gesturing to the cast of Dune in a line. Little by little, the row of people is filled and organized to be in the center of the camera's focus. Some actors had to move spots, due to lack of space or better color semblance on the other side of the row. You stood next to Jessica and Florence Pugh was beside your right, as you tried to stand closer for the picture.
Anya Taylor was on the opposite side, with Austin Butler and beside him, Timothee Chalamet. A noticeable clip taken all over was when the French actor went to greet the English actress, warmly, clasping her hand with both hands as a proper salute as on-screen siblings.
You did not mind the lack of attention. You were happy for Anya for achieving a great role. One with a welcoming cast and crew. It was then your eyes scanned down the row, from Zendaya to Stellan Skarsgard. Then to Austin, whom you've been familiar with since day one. Only him to find your gaze seconds later. You give a little nod and smile before averting your direction to Anya who is already staring at you with gleaming eyes.

You were going back and forth with Jessica and Florence on your travels for a while. From plans reception to favorite desserts, all you three wanted to talk about was food. Paparazzi caught onto your banter quickly and snapped a few photos. You even went out of your way to do silly poses. Followed by Jessica and Florence, then did the same, sticking their tongues out in a rock star kind of fashion. You throw out piece signs, giving a dramatic frown as another flash happens.
Catch-ups were definitely refreshing and fun. Thus why you nearly jump when Austin appeared behind you.
"Oh my gosh, hey!" You stuttered, giving him a quick hug to calm your nerves. "You scared me!"
"Sorry sorry! I just wanted to surprise you!" He leans his head slightly, allowing better eye contact. You felt a few taps on your shoulder and noticed Jessica and Florence scurrying away, with their thumbs up, all goofy and excited.
Your eyes make it back to his. "I would've said hi back at the cast photo, but you were so far away," Shrugging you dismiss your failure as a mild missed opportunity.
But Austin shakes his head in an averted manner. "No- Don't worry about it." You could already sense interviewers and others with microphones closing on you two. You were out in the open, and it's bound to happen. "I wanted to- you know, say hi to you in a less chaotic place."
"I tried looking for you but there's just so many people," You give your costar an exhausted look. It was then a keen young man approached the pair of you. It was the People magazine, as you became aware of the logo alongside their camera and microphone.
"Hey, would you two mind a short interview for People's magazine?"
Truly, this was what premieres were about. The cast and crew meet with fans to show what they have worked so hard for. You brought you no better satisfaction than to praise everyone's efforts. The interviewer then proceeded to have a quick introduction of you and Austin beside you. You both had separate microphones in each hand. Once the video started rolling, you peered at the camera and gave the audience a grin.
"So how are you guys doing? Met all of your lovely cast members yet?"
"Oh absolutely," You emphasized every syllable, nodding. Austin only glances at you in amusement. "It's crazy how many people are here I was so overwhelmed!"
"Yeah, it was pretty crowded," The male actor adds, lowering his microphone slightly.
"Hopefully it will die down!" The interviewer beams. "So what was it like getting to know each other in this film? How was the first day on set like?"
"Oh, well it went very smoothly," You start, staring up at Austin in approval. "Even though my time was short on set, I feel like we had a pretty good rhythm starting out."
"I was about to say! The scenes with Feyd and Lady Margot were really something!"
"Why thank you, we appreciate it," Austin nervously laughs, scratching his ear.
The interviewer takes the lead to discuss your preparation for the role and how it was working with Villeneuve. As new characters, you and Austin both talked about your views on both of your characters. Both are very different yet mysterious to the viewers. Additionally, you two were introduced in a similar scene of the pit fight. The People's Magazine interviewer was compelled to compliment Austin on his opening scene. You knew he had practiced the choreographed fights vigorously. And of which you were lucky to witness on the days that you were present.
"It was completely freeing and different than what I was used to doing," Austin probes, leaning toward your direction. "Were you there for the pit fight?"
"I think I was," You turn, similarly. "I remember watching from afar and thinking wow." Immediately you could sense him eagerly looking down at you with a sly smile. "He was- Austin did amazing with the fight choreography, I was impressed!"
"Was this the first time seeing him in full costume too?"
"Oh yes!" You bonked your hand on your forehead, "He was and I just- couldn't believe it was him!"
Suddenly Austin jumps in, "She was startled when I first came up to her in full costume."
"You came out of nowhere, by the way!" You rebutted, giving him a side glance.
"I didn't mean to," As he tries to reassure his actions, "I wanted to give a good first impression!" It was humorous how playful you two were together despite having dissimilar filming schedules. Though most of your scenes involved Butler, your friendship only became more apparent weeks after working together. It was off and on for months at a time due to being busy in other countries simultaneously.
Eventually, you were able to link up again weeks before the premiere. After waiting a long time to meet up, you almost felt relieved that you hadn't seen your costar in a while.
"And Austin, how was filming with her?! From a character's standpoint, what kind of dynamic do you see playing out?" The People's Magazine interviewer perks up, having the camera transition from his face to Austin's.
"Well I'd say, she's great. You know I've got to meet a lot of amazing people in this film. And," He says your name sincerely, "She's- she's one of those people. I can't say much for Lady Margot and Feyd's relationship- you know there's a lot of that's still not uncovered. We don't really know what's happening but kind of have an idea of something. And to have such a great actress like her, it makes everything feel authentic and- feel the tension." It felt as if you were in a daze, eyes completely focused on his words with such admiration and grace. Before you knew it, you were smiling as if you had won the best possible prize in the world. His compliments to you meant more than you had anticipated really.
Unbeknownst to you, the cameraman had caught your lovestruck expression before directing attention back to the interviewer. "And how about you, Miss Margot?"
"I'd say it's the same," Now looking at the interviewer, only momentarily back at your costar. "Austin's- he's great at all the stunts and acting like a scary dude. Every scene with him was fun to do. Like he's all serious in character but once they yell cut! he's so nice and funny!" Your bubbly laugh breaks as you can feel your face growing hot.
"Well I appreciate you liking my humor," Austin pokes fun at you, fanning a little air towards you.
You mutter a soft thank you! before continuing, "And he's dedicated you know? I remember one scene, a little spoiler, where Feyd is about to be tested by Lady Margot, and I just couldn't do it! I couldn't keep a straight face!"
"Really?!"
"She just kept breaking, I don't know why," The actor shrugs, his attention closely drawn to you. "We had a few takes on a few days."
"We did! We did!" You gave a big frown, "You just have a really distracting face."
"Do I?" Austin asks, between the lines of teasing and coolly.

By the time, other premieres had occurred, people were still focused on your interactions with Austin Butler. Your chemistry on and off screen on the carpet was hilarious. And with how polarizing your characters were, it made many clips of your shared encounters gain attention.
A few short videos were recorded after the People Magazine interview of you and Austin, bashfully talking behind the stage. The two of you went back and forth whispering in each other's ears about what was unknown to the viewer. Through a bird's eye view, the video also catches you hugging your arms before zooming in on Austin's placing an arm around your figure.
Another clip that had been reposted many times was when you both took duo pictures together. As you comfortably shift your weight on one leg, as you turn to have your side face the flashing paparazzi. Whilst the Elvis actor stands beside you at a pleasant distance, doing the same pose to the other side. There was one instance where you lifted your head to make eye contact with your eyes instantly brightening. As Austin's smile widened, only to blow air in your face.

GALLAGHER:
he’d take you to his bar!! easy as that. it’s nothing grand or special, just his good ol bar. he serves you up a few drinks and you have a great time!
mostly, you guys talk. gossip about people, random tabloids you both found, fun facts about the other, etc. that’s also how you get to find out about misha and sleepie (and you adore both of them <3)
he’s much more gentle and warm towards you, quieting down his voice a bit so he isn’t that startling. he still has his drawl and everything, just in a lighter tone. in general it seems like he just got a bit younger!!
he jokes about you helping him out with the bar later, and you agree. so as a ‘second’ date, you guys get to work together! yippee! you get paid with free drinks and your first kiss with him <3
SAMPO:
you guys go visit some historical sites in belobog together!! he’s VERY knowledgable in them, and takes his time with you. you cruise through museums and even out in the cold, pointing at abandoned machinery and cool architecture
he absolutely talks more than you no matter how talkative you may be. partially out of ‘i want this date to go well and for them to see how cool i am’ and also out of ‘I AM SO NERVOUS RN’. thankfully he has a very engaging voice, and you love listening to him ramble :3
he tells a few tall tales in between, typical stories and fairytales that kids would like to hear. makes sense seeing as how he does talk with hook a lot.. and even at your age, they’re still fun and interesting! he’s an incredibly good storyteller
and at the end of the day, he wraps his dingy little jacket around your shoulders and takes you back to wherever he lives. he gives you a few snacks and the most delicious DIY hot chocolate ever before asking you SO many questions about how you thought of the date. you mumble something good before you fall asleep, which is enough for him <3
MR. RECA:
as he said before, he wants to cast you in the starring role of a romance movie with him as your lovely boyfriend. he makes PLENTY of jokes about it too, constantly rambling about how fun it’ll be. it counts as a first date i guess???
you two are an AMAZING duo together onstage and offstage!! his performance is amazing to the point where you actually feel like you’ve fallen for him impossibly more… the role he’s playing is a cheesy romantic ol guy, and AEONSS ABOVEE if you don’t treasure it
he lets you customize your role however you want! so you decide to simply play as yourself to max out your reca romance exposure. he plays along and switches the script around just for you, before going on set to dance around with you a while more
at the end of the day, both of you make lovely comments on your acting (although you weren’t really playing a character), laughing about certain moments in the scenes before he sends you home. and of course, he waits for you to enter your house before he leaves, just like his little gentleman role in the movie <3

"I'm the quiet you've been longing for." Or, in other words, Gentleman Death.

So yeah, there are people, rightly, laughing at Armand calling himself the "quiet" that Daniel's been longing for because if you know anything about their relationship, particularly with how it started, it was anything but quiet. Quite the opposite in fact.
But see, I think, when it comes to the moment in the image above, that is actually the whole point. Because this moment isn't from some point when they are romantically together. I think this moment is from when they first really meet and speak to each other after Polynesian Mary's. More importantly, I think this is sometime after Armand had stopped Louis from killing Daniel.
There is a great observation/analysis post here that notes the clothes both Armand and young Daniel are wearing, and how they match up to what they were wearing that night when they first encountered each other at Polynesian Mary's. So this moment above being either later that same night, or maybe even the next night after Louis attacked Daniel matches up.
And this moment is very much Armand offering Daniel an "easeful death." Namely, killing him, probably because of what happened with Louis. Armand likely only stopped Louis from doing so because he knew Louis would feel guilty about it later, as Louis doesn't actually like to know anything about his victims before he kills them. So Armand likely stepped in and stopped Louis to spare him from that and such guilt.
However, Armand probably also thinks Daniel now knows too much to risk letting him live. And so is going to kill him himself. And I think what we are seeing here, above, is one of the ways Armand will sometimes present himself to his victims. And I think it is something he learned from Lestat, which is to be "Gentleman Death."
It's been noted by the writers of the show that they were looking to drawn things from Anne Rice's short story, Interlude with the Undead, for Armand in Season 2. (A short story, btw, which you can read online here and here.) And, of course, the line about "easeful death" that we hear in the trailer can be found in that short story, not once but twice:

But if you notice, during the first passage, Armand also talks about being "Gentleman Death." The same exact thing Lestat said to Armand to explain his outlook on being a vampire during the time period when they first met; and basically upending Armand's entire worldview (and cult) under Les Innocents.

From the opening of Interlude with the Undead, we know that this whole short story was actually Louis telling Daniel something Armand had told him. Well, I think not only has the show cut out the middleman on that, but I think what they are about to do is show how very much Armand, in his own way, embraced Lestat's Gentleman Death mission statement for a time. Probably for a long time.
In the show, I think we are going to see Lestat give Armand his Gentleman Death monologue during the scene when these two images happen:

And I think, by the time Louis encounters Armand in Paris, we will see that he has, in his own ways and methods, adapted to that ethos of being Gentleman Death.
However, time does march on. And I do think Armand will begin to see presenting himself as such is beginning to not fit with the times he is now in. But it will still be one of the things he still will present himself as.
At least until Daniel.

Because I really do think when Armand presents himself in this way to Daniel, being a "quiet" (ie death) that he says Daniel has been longing for? Daniel is going to flat-out reject that.
Because Daniel doesn't want to die, no matter how many drugs he takes or the reckless behavior he may sometimes exhibit (during this point in time). What Daniel really wants is to live forever. The reason Louis attacked Daniel as he did was because Daniel asked Louis to make him immortal.
Death? Quiet? Hell no. Give Daniel Molloy immortality, thank you!
So Daniel is going to ask the same thing of Armand he asked of Louis. Which is for Armand to make him immortal.
And just like in the book? Armand is, at first, going to be taken aback. And then, intrigued by this brash (and beautiful) human:

So yeah, I feel that the "quiet you've been longing for" moment in the trailer is the moment when Armand presents himself as his own version of "Gentleman Death" and it flat-out doesn't work, probably for the first time ever. And that it doesn't work with Daniel is what starts The Chase between them in the show's universe; the show leaving out the 3-days or so that Armand locked Daniel in a cage before that, of course.
And all because of something Armand has been doing since Lestat first upended his life under Les Innocents centuries ago did not work on this one particular mortal. So, instead, Armand let him go to chase him instead.
And to hell with trying to seduce this human with promises of "quiet" because that sure as hell didn't work last time.

you have been the quietest and most introverted person in your group, along with haerin.
both of you shared the same MBTI type, but surprisingly, neither of you has really spoken to each other as often as you thought you had. and you've only noticed this once when your fans, known as bunnies, ask you about it — 'have you ever talked to haerin behind the scenes?' and ever since then, you became more aware of this issue.
well, it wasn't an issue at all, but it does concern your fans. they didn't want to misunderstand it, and neither do you want them to be too.
though unbeknownst to you, bunnies have also asked haerin about it in their phoning app. then if ever you have a chance, you would try having a long conversation or just something to interact with haerin.
still, you felt bad. you didn't think that fans would notice it and even you didn't know about it until you got told. because of this, you suddenly became aware and curious about haerin.

a couple of days later, all of you were practicing for the next music show performance with dance breaks when danielle mentioned that she wanted to have a livestream to talk to bunnies, even just for a little bit, just like they've done before.
fortunately, they all agreed and took a break by live streaming to talk with their fans.
and you made sure to sit next to haerin this time, not hesitating to take this rare opportunity. all of you sat on the floor with danielle's phone leaning to the mirror wall, facing them.
minji sat on the very left with danielle, followed by hyein, hanni, haerin and finally, you at the very right. since the live was in horizontal yet it was a small frame to fit everyone, they had to scoot closer to each other.
and of course, that meant for haerin and you to cling onto each other.
with minji starting with a cheerful greeting, the others followed suit with only you and haerin waving at the camera with small smiles. naturally, as you tried, you sat behind haerin just a bit and rested your chin on her shoulder.
as if it was natural for her, she rests her head against yours causing her strand of hair to brush your nose. you sniff before turning away from haerin abruptly to sneeze on the side, followed by a light cough.
haerin hovers her hand over your arm, "are you okay, unnie?" she asked, in a quieter tone as she moves close to you to cover your form from the camera while the others talk to their fans.
you snort lightly, your face flushes in embarrassment. "yeah, sorry.. your hair just tickles my nose." you smiled at her sheepishly, to which she responds with a short giggle.
she apologizes and gently bumps her head on your shoulder, leaning her weight to you. you laugh and pat her head, leaning your head against hers before both of you pull away to focus again to the live.
then throughout the live stream, both of you were just clinging onto each other like there's no tomorrow.
haerin, unknowingly, holds your hand and plays with your fingers gently and absentmindedly. you let her as you rest your chin on her shoulder again. you two were just stuck onto each other, and you could tell she was enjoying it with you despite the lack of communication.
nonetheless, you love your little moments with haerin like this. it only makes things feel worthy and peaceful. and safe to say, your fans were happy to see you and haerin sticking close together.

another time of your rare interactions with haerin was your solo live in the vocal room of your company. after a long day of practice for your performance, you had decided to go live alone.
in all honesty, you just wanted to take a break from everything. these days, you feel so restless and distressed that you can't make any conversation with your members at all.
thankfully, they respected that and left you alone.
back to the present, you patiently waited for your fans to see your notification and join your live as you sat on the chair and leaned your arms onto the table. you played with your fringes quietly, softly humming your group's song as you waited. after a minute, you decided to start with your introduction.
releasing your fringes, you sent a small smile towards the camera and gave a little wave. "hello, yeoreobun... i hope you guys are doing fantastic today and if not, it will be alright soon enough, promise." you raised your pinky finger to the camera before letting out a giggle and dropping your hand down.
"i am in the vocal room right now, and we just finished practicing just a minute ago, so i am really sorry because i do look hideous right now."
sheepishly letting out a chuckle, you ruffled your hair to at least make it look nicer than earlier. "where are the members? ah, minji-unnie and hanni-unnie went outside together with hyein. dani and haerin probably went home by now." you replied to the comment, a small smile was still there in your face.
you nodded at the other comment, "yeah! i ate already, and i also ate a lot of marshmallows today! earlier," you excitedly began to share what happened before the practice.
"haerin and i got to the practice room together, earlier than the other members."
"then, out of nowhere, she gave me a bag of marshmallows!" you chuckle, "and she only gave me that look— i don't know what kind of look, but it was almost like i have to eat it or else she'll force me to." you cough lightly. "ah, but i like marshmallows so i ate some. not too much 'cuz it'll be too much for my stomach." you shrug before grinning to the camera.
"haerin, recently, likes to give me different types of snacks at any time. be it a candy or the snack snack, she'll give me it." you laugh again, shaking your head. "now, i have a lot of snacks inside my drawers because of her!"
then your other phone, your personal phone, suddenly vibrated beside you on the table. you paused your sharing and looked at your screen, just to see haerin messaging you.
'can i join?'
you smiled at her message, finding it cute for her to ask even through a message. you took your phone and turn back to the camera and grins excitedly, "guys, i guess we will have a guest coming in tonight!"
you quickly sent a thumbs up and a blue heart to haerin before turning it off. "she'll be here in a minute, i suppose." you informed before a comment caught your attention.
"a quick outfit check? sure~" you stood up to show your outfit for tonight— which you wore your black sweater with a cute cat print in the front, then a long navy-blue baggy pants that you borrowed from hanni, then your favorite pair of nike shoes.
you twirled and grinned, dimples showing on the side of your lips. "i really like my style because it just looks so comfortable! especially my sweater— i borrowed these pants from hanni-unnie because surprisingly, i accidentally wore this today to the practice and thought that it was mine!"
you exclaimed- more like a protest(?) as you sat down again on the chair, "but then hanni-unnie noticed it and told me that it was hers. in my defense, i always forget what clothes i own so, often, i accidentally keep wearing their clothes everyday and i never missed the chance to get told by them that it was theirs."
you sighed, "but it suits me, so hanni-unnie gave it to me." you giggle happily, "thank you, unnie." you thanked hanni through the screen, though you weren't sure if she was watching your live, but you didn't mind it.
then a knock came from the door.
you jumped and made a weird noise as you stood and waddled over the door to open it, revealing haerin with a face mask covering her mouth.
"hi hi, haerin." you smiled at her and gestured to her to sit on the chair you were previously sitting on. she timidly entered and waved at the camera shyly as she sat down on your chair, while you took another chair on the side. "guys, our guest is our kitty cat, haerin kang!"
you clap your hands, while haerin laughs shyly and reluctantly removes her face mask. "hello, yeoreobun. i hope..." she paused as she stared at the camera, causing you to look at her in confusion. you didn't utter a word before she continued, "i hope everyone is doing well today."
you quietly giggle as you scoot next to her, close to the table to read the comments. "oh, bunnies sound so happy." haerin smiles as she reads the comments with you.
then you ask your fans, "yeoreobun... do i have a duo name with haerin?" to which haerin blinks before nodding mutely.
your eyes skillfully scanned over the comments that replied to your question, "kittyhog, eng? haey/n? too common though..." you mumble each comment you could read while haerin listens to you while looking at the comments.
"...hedrin? sounds cute but..." you pout as you want to mention why they left out your name and used your representative animal instead. and it seems that haerin knows the reason behind your point since she laughs quietly and hides her face behind your back.
"...guys, your ideas are too fancy for us to use." you chuckle sheepishly, shaking your head. "maybe something simple? not too common but just simple and cute." your lips pursed as you bat your eyes at them.
then two comments caught both you and haerin's eyes, causing you to read it in sync. "hushlyn and lynsil?" both of you blinked twice in surprise at the same time, making you two burst out of laughter in silence.
haerin leans her whole body to you while you drop your upper body onto her lap, wheezing silently and gasping for air. the comments were filled with crying emojis and laughing emojis from the fans who were watching two girlies laughing with no sound.
while you were still laughing and dying at the same time, haerin somehow managed to calm down despite letting out some short laugh with small tears in her eyes.
she pushed her hair from her face because it was getting in her way to see the comments.
"why is it hushlyn and lynsil, bunnies?" to which, in a few minutes after you got tired from laughing and just gasping for air with your body on haerin's legs, it was answered with a good, understandable answer.
"oh! hushlyn from the sound hush, and lynsil, lyn is the calm vibe and sil is silence. ohh-" haerin approves the names, giving the camera a thumbs up while you looked at the ceiling in confusion at the new names that the fans has given to you.
"sounds great but it's-"
"i really like it. do you like it, unnie?"
haerin questioned you, turning her cat-eyes at you in wonder and curiosity. you could only blink twice before smiling in agreement, though with a bit of reluctance, "i love the names! i personally like lynsil because it's easy to say it."
haerin laughs heartily at your comment, it made the fans fall in love with her existence again and again. (me fr)
"thank you, bunnies, for spending time with us! goodnight~" you and haerin waved at the camera with a shy smile as you pressed your side with hers, "bye bye!"
then you tapped the red button on the screen to end the live. haerin giggles quietly at the memory of the funny moments earlier. you turn to her and laugh with her, "you laughed too much tonight, haerin-ssi!"
you teased her as you messaged your manager that you had just ended live and are with haerin right now to return back to your dorm. haerin continues to laugh before breathing to catch air.
"sorry, sorry- you were just too funny."
you raised one brow at her playfully, "quite the first time, but i'm glad it made you laugh." you glanced at the time on your phone, "it's really late now. you wanna stop by the convenience store before returning back home?"
you suggested as both of you began to pack your bags, not forgetting your chargers and turning off the lights and air conditioner before closing the door behind you.
haerin nodded to your suggestion, quite excited to buy a snack and drink for tonight.

"we should buy some for the others too." you said before adding that you'll pay for everything too so you encouraged haerin buy anything she likes.
haerin smiles excitedly and nodded as she takes a basket and follows you around like a baby duck. you head first to the very back where the drinks are and turns to haerin. "you like chocolate milk, right?"
to which haerin nodded, "yeah, chocolate milk sounds good." then you drop her drink onto the basket carefully before finding other drinks for the others.
haerin was just watching and waiting for you behind you with curious cat eyes. then afterward, both of you headed towards the snack section and haerin went to get her favorite snacks.
after a little while, your basket was already filled and walked to the cashier to pay.
you handed your cash to the lady politely, "thank you so much, have a safe night." you told the lady with a smile as you linked your arms with haerin with your unoccupied arms, while the other hands were busy carrying the paper bag.
the lady laughs heartily and nodded at your way, watching both girls leaving the store.
as you were walking with haerin, she had wanted to hold hands with you so now, you're walking your way to your dorm with your hand clasped onto her hand.
you don't know why she was suddenly acting like this, but you assumed that it was just one of her times where she gets a bit clingy and touchy.
you didn't mind this kind of behavior at all; in fact, you find it cute. "unnie, have you been noticing something between us before?" haerin starts, cutting the comfortable silence upon them.
you take a quick glance at her before looking ahead, taking a note that you and haerin are the only people walking the sidewalk, except with some vehicles dashing through the road.
"yeah, bunnies asked me about it." you chuckle, tightening your grip around hers. "i actually didn't know about it until they mentioned it. after that, i became aware of us." you pursed your lips as you wondered over it.
"...did it bother you?"
haerin immediately shook her head, "no, not at all!" then she went quiet again. you looked at her, seeing as she stared at the ground like it was so interesting. you wonder what was going through her mind.
"but it's good that we've been interacting recently. it felt natural being like this with you, y'know?" you smile warmly, shifting your hand to pull her closer to your side and linked arms.
"and i'm a bit surprised to see you clinging with me a lot too." you chuckle as haerin averts her eyes away, hiding her flushed face from you. "..it just felt natural too. i thought i would feel a lot awkward with you, but it was the opposite way."
you felt touched by her words, "i feel the same too."

Villains and Their Fates - A Tragedy Would Have Been Fine By Me
I've seen a lot of people who try to write off frustration with the league's fates by saying "you just wanted them to survive" or "you're just upset your favourite character died". And while that may be true for a few people, I know that it's at least not true for myself (which must mean there are others who feel the same way). So today I'm here to share my thoughts. Despite liking the villains and wanting them to be redeemed, I was also willing to accept a well written ending if they died. I just wanted to ramble a bit about the three main villains (mostly Toga) and how I felt a tragic ending could have been improved.

The only villain I felt should have lived is Dabi, but that's more because of the awkwardness his unconfirmed death caused for Shoto (read this beautifully written analysis for more). If Dabi had to die, he should have died on the battle field OR in the hospital surrounded by family where he gets a few last words in. Leaving his fate unconfirmed leads to the ruined Shoto arc, but is also just weird for a character who has existed for so long. You're telling me that even Overhaul gets a confirmed ending but DABI doesn't?
I've also talked a bit about how Endeavor's survival ruins the subplot, and in 426 he continues by making Touya's final appearance about him (rather than the two brothers) but that's something I've talked about too much. If Endeavor has to be alive and hogging screen time, the least Hori could do is imply Touya will survive rather than die, so at least Enji isn't literally stealing time from his other family members to have some interaction with Touya.
If Touya has to end up in that machine, an ideal ending would have been the doctor saying "it will be a gruelling and near-impossible uphill climb to recovery" and then Shoto can smile and say "he's done it before". Boom. Simple as that. Leave it open, but at least on a positive note so we can assume that the family will have plenty of time to reconcile, as opposed to an unknown (but limited) amount of time that Enji vows to use to talk to him (yeah I know it's supposed to be a sweet gesture but even Touya calls bullshit on it). Let Shoto and Touya eat their soba, damn it!

For Shigaraki, my grievances extend to the writing of the entire final battle between him and Deku. As such, I don't have much to say aside from that because it really is just a product of poor writing. Neither were really allowed to talk before the big moment (hell, the vestiges were narrating Deku's emotions half the time like "he must be upset, this quirk meant so much to him". Why not let him tell us???) and the back-and-forth of Shigaraki being destroyed and then not only to be destroyed again was too much. It felt sloppy and hard to follow, and once you figured it out it just felt dumb. It's as if each chapter needed some massive reveal, but the story had done it so much at this point that it just felt tired and like it was happening "because Hori said so", and that should never be what drives a story.

Oh Toga. Out of all the villains, I actually liked her confrontation the most. (Lies. If Dabi vs Shoto was the end of Dabi's fight, THAT would have been the best. But the Endeavor fight ruins it). Despite having limited screen time, Toga and Uraraka had a surprisingly well-built dynamic. Their few interactions were actually meaningful and created a strong foundation for a fight, and at the very least they had more of a personal connection than Deku and Shigaraki ever did. I think that Toga giving her blood to someone she loves (as opposed to drinking/taking their blood like she had said the whole series) is a beautifully tragic end to her character, but still something that could have fit.
To me, the problem comes with how she died. Let me replay the scene for you: Toga stabs Uraraka in the stomach and Uraraka bleeds too much because she keeps moving around. Toga then realizes she doesn't want Uraraka to die. To save her life, Toga has to do a blood transfusion with herself as a donor and she dies because she has to give ALL her blood.
Now... sure. Ok. Fine. Yeah. Maybe by real-world logic this makes sense. I guess. Whatever. But within the world of MHA, this setup is laughable.
Here's a list of things characters survived (or at least, they survived LONG ENOUGH to get to a hospital rather than dying on the battlefield): Deku shattering his bones with 1 million percent, whatever happened to Best Jeanist when AFO attacked him, Nighteye getting a massive spike through the torso, All Might with "his entrails strewn across the ground", Bakugo becoming Swiss cheese, Grand Torino being punched so hard a crater forms beneath him, Touya being a literal flaming skeleton, Bakugo's heart exploding, Edgeshot becoming a worm. Mirko getting a limb ripped off and then running full speed at Shigaraki. That's just off the top of my head, I know there's probably more.
But you want to tell me that Uraraka getting stabbed and then moving was a fatal wound that required ALL TOGA'S BLOOD? ALL OF IT? The reason Toga's death bothers me is that the setup cheapens the actual moment of sacrifice. It feels preventable, so when she tells us that Uraraka is going to die without her blood, all I could do is roll my eyes because I'm not allowed to use critical thinking skills, I have to just accept what Hori says and take it at face value.
If the author wants you to live as Edgeworm despite saying you were gonna die, you can. But if the author needs a stab wound to be fatal and require ALL of someone's blood? Well tough luck bud, that's just how it goes. Mirko can run and move all she wants after having a limb ripped off, but moving a bit after one stab wound is fatal. Why? Because I say so.
If Uraraka's wound was actually serious then this ending would have been a beautiful tragedy. But as it stands now, the ridiculousness of her wound makes it all feel preventable.
Oh, there's also the fact that Toga switching blood types when she transforms was never established, but I've rambled enough.

Gojo’s letter to Megumi.
Guess I had more thoughts on the subject matter... this is part 3!
Since we don’t know what he said to Nobara, but it is implied it isn’t dissimilar to what he wrote for Megumi.
Like many things related to Gojo, the way he showed his feelings for his students has divided some readers.
I think some people struggled with how it was so light-hearted, treating it as if it was dismissive (as part of Gojo’s farewell). Or what it didn’t carry any weight of emotion (to his students, and/or even as a character).
But I kind of disagree that it depicts anything dismissive… I understand it is somewhat disappointing for some who see him as a very emotional & caring sensei. From the POV of what’s characteristic of Gojo, however, it is extremely fitting. It’s very consistent with Gege’s portrayal & what we have seen of Gojo. This is Gege’s character after all. It’s foolish to fight him over his own creation.
Let me put it this way: it had to be light-hearted.
This was always, always Gojo’s way of putting people at ease. Whether it is appropriate or not, this was his way. And some conclude, is also why, Megumi chuckled like that.
Think even in HI, when Gojo got ambushed within the barriers at Jujutsu Tech, he reassured/told Geto: “I’m good, really.” But this really threw him off. The poor kid was sweating profusely against the anomaly that was Toji with no cursed energy, so even with his six eyes, he couldn’t track him well.
Think about this scene where he hides & masks his actual feelings/instincts telling him that something was wrong.

Think about after having to take the life of his best friend that he had wanted to save for years & whom he felt left behind by, but having to be a sensei whom they could all rely on:

I definitely feel that him being goofy was his way of being considerate to his students. So my view doesn’t change from what I wrote about in pt1 & 2.
As an adult who does care, would do for those important to him.
He wanted to reassure everyone. Out of responsibility, as the strongest, retaining his humanity, you know? Love? This was exactly what he learned through his dynamic duo with Geto. This is what you’d expect of your sensei.
Also: How could anyone say farewell, as if they wanted those they leave behind, to hurt? It speaks volumes about Gojo’s character. Geto “joked” albeit cynically at his end. Nobara tried to leave a message that she was ok with it before she thought she was going to die (even if she didn’t). Choso imparted his gratitude for having been able to be a good brother.
Gojo was trying to protect their feelings and youth until the very end. Gojo never talked about how he felt to anyone else besides Geto; this was the entire issue that Shoko had with both Gojo & Geto. This is just fact; demonstrated by the entire convo between him & Geto in ch236.
To Gojo, no more words needed to be said in the letter. It would make his students cry, it would make them more attached to him, etc. Gojo never wanted that. He was never even the kind to be sentimental about things (besides his 青春 / memories of his blue spring of youth).
He was even this way with himself:

“I can’t feel my cursed energy… this is checkmate…” (but nevermind me) “my six eyes tell me…. …. Who are you?!?”
You get my drift, right? Gojo was very much the kind of person who just keeps marching on. He doesn’t have lingering attachment to anything, including himself, besides his one and only complex <- we know what that is.
But it DOES NOT MEAN HE DID NOT CARE. He just recognised that they needed to let go of him to carry on living. It’s rather selfless and loving if you ask me.
The letter was written as if to say, with a cheerful tone:
It’s okay to let me go.
Because, I am okay to go too.

02 December, 2182, Arcturus Stream, Arcturus, Arcturus Station
A steady crowd of people mill through the observation deck on the Callisto section of Arcturus’ torus ring. This time Kaidan knows where he’s going, but even though he’s a few minutes early, the buzz of Shepard’s biotic field slips under his skin before he spies the small opening in the wall just below the ceiling. The only difference between now and that morning almost four years ago is the souvenir shop where the empty storefront used to be.
Shepard pokes his head out of the alcove and holds out his hand for Kaidan to grab. No biotic energy to pull him up this time – Kaidan brings his own momentum. But Shepard’s pull is still stronger, and for half a heartbeat Kaidan winds up in his arms. He clears his throat as they disentangle, and settles beside him in this strange little architectural oddity that’s a perfect fit for two people to sit and watch the stars.
“Still beautiful,” Kaidan murmurs, looking out the window. He mostly means the view.
“Never lets me down, I’ll give it that,” Shepard admits. He pushes a datapad out of the way and stuffs a stylus in his pocket.
“Been here long?” Kaidan asks. “Didn’t mean to keep you waiting.”
“Nah. Needed some time to do a little thinking. Been a hell of a day, and it’s not over yet.”
Kaidan sticks one foot out in front of him, so it hangs just off the ledge. “Yeah. New rank, new ship, new crew. What did you think?”
Shepard ducks his head, hiding a smile behind a fist. When had Kaidan first seen him smile like that? It should stand out in his memory, but it doesn’t. Sometimes it feels like there have never been any firsts with Shepard. They’ve just always been.
“The ship’s pretty incredible. You’d have a field day. She’s got stealth tech.”
“Stealth? Really?”
He nods. “Get this. It’s a cross-species effort with the turians.”
“Huh.”
“The chief engineer threw a lot of jargon at me, but the long and short of it is, she’s got an internal emissions sink system that stores waste heat. She can run silent for close to three hours before the crew is in danger of cooking.”
“Damn. I’m guessing wherever they plan on sending you won’t be lacking for action.”
“Not from what I gather. Crew is hand-picked. She’s small, fast, top of the line, and you would hate the pilot.”
Kaidan snorts and leans back on his elbows. “Why would I hate the pilot?”
“Just trust me.”
“Okay,” Kaidan says with a wry smile. “Guess I’ll have to take your word for it.”
There must be a little more misery in his tone than he intends, because Shepard’s expression sobers, and the gravity well flips.  
“Anderson’s the CO,” Shepard says, right before the quiet that settles between them starts to get heavy.
Kaidan’s eyes widen. “Oh, that’s great, Shepard. Really great.”
“Should make things interesting, that’s for sure. I sure can drive him batshit. Wonder how long before he wants to put me out the airlock.”   
“He thinks the world of you, Shepard. You know that right?”
Shepard shrugs a shoulder and pulls the stylus out of his pocket, twirling it in his fingers. “Lot to live up to, still.”
“Hey. You’ve worked so hard for this. And you’re going to get to do it with the person who means the most to you. Enjoy it, okay? At least for a minute. This is everything you wanted.”
Shepard looks at him, right at him, eyes so clear and sharp there can’t possibly be anything Kaidan can hide.
“Yeah. Guess it is.”
Maybe the hint of regret in his voice isn’t real, just Kaidan hearing what he wants to hear. Just like the hand on his shoulder at the café didn’t mean anything, the damn crooked pin at the ceremony had just been harmless banter, and the way Shepard’s looking at him right now is just Shepard.
That’s what he always tells himself.
What if it is something? His stomach churns with a rush of exhilaration and anxiety. What would you do if I told you the truth? If I kissed you, would you push me away, or put your arms around me and tell me not to stop?
But then Shepard drops his eyes and the moment’s gone. He shoves the stylus back in his pocket, scowls, and digs something else out and holds it up to examine. It’s a chain, for a dress uniform, but black instead of the regulation gold. Just like the one Shepard already has on, linking the top button of his jacket with the gold trim of the shoulder pad. The chain worn by anyone who’s achieved N status – the only adornment allowed by anyone who isn’t N7.
Kaidan raises a curious eyebrow as Shepard rolls it between his fingers, the gaze that moments ago had only been for Kaidan now bent elsewhere.
“Did you bring an extra this time?” Kaidan asks, trying not to smile. The last time Shepard had taken that dress coat off, after the N7 ceremony, he’d forgotten to undo the chain first and snapped it in half.
He shakes his head. “My mom gave it to me today. It…was my dad’s.”
Oh.
“Why today?” Kaidan asks. “Why not when you made N1?”
His laugh is bitter. “She didn’t know she had it. She never went through his things.”
“Oh,” Kaidan says softly. “I’m sorry, Shepard.”
“It’s just a chain,” he says with a shake of his head, and starts to shove it back in his pocket. “Never been the sentimental type, anyway.”
Kaidan stops him, leaning in close enough the sharp hum of their mingled fields leaves him a little lightheaded. Shepard’s lips hover close, too close while Kaidan detaches the chain on his uniform. When he drops it in Shepard’s open palm and takes the one that belonged to his father, an electric shock passes through their fingers. Kaidan swallows, makes the mistake of glancing up at those eyes that may as well hold the depth of the stars inside, then fastens the chain carefully in place. Throughout, Shepard watches him in silence that feels like it means something.
“Thanks,” Shepard says softly.
Kaidan traces the chain with a finger, lump growing in his throat, all the times Shepard had nearly killed himself chasing N7, carving the path that’s now leading him away from the ‘Yang to Anderson and the Normandy flashing in front of his eyes.
They’re sending you somewhere I can’t protect you.
Like a reflex, he splays his hand against Shepard’s chest. There’s still an undershirt, dress jacket and dress uniform between them. Sometimes it seems like there’s so much standing between them, even when they’re side by side, and that space is about to become so vast.
But he can still feel Shepard’s heartbeat. Not a number in his HUD. Just a steady rhythm under his palm. He draws in a ragged breath.
“I don’t want to lose you.”
The words are out before he can stop them.
He curls his fingers against the fabric of Shepard’s uniform, trying to break the spell, trying to pull away while he still can, but instead Shepard cups his knuckles, trapping them in place.
He’s always been trapped in Shepard’s gravitational pull. There’s never been any other star he’s wanted to orbit.
“Hey,” Shepard says. “Kaidan, I…”
Without giving himself time to think about what it could cost them, he hooks Shepard’s neck with his other hand and erases the space between them.
Kaidan does little more than brush their lips together, so quick and reckless he almost misses. It’s nothing like what he's imagined in the rare moments where he let himself imagine anything at all. But when they part it’s only by inches. He can’t bring himself to move farther away.
But Shepard doesn’t move either.
They hover nose to nose. Shepard sits still as a stone, breath warm against Kaidan’s cheek, gaze unfocused, like the galaxy has just reordered itself around him. When he finally manages to speak, it's with a voice Kaidan's never heard before.
"Oh."
Kaidan inhales, the reality of what he’s just done setting in hard. “I’m sorry,” he says hastily, trying to scramble away, trying to think of a way to fix it, but Shepard tightens his grip on Kaidan’s hand, keeping it pressed against his chest. His eyes glitter like the stars in front of them, though reading his expression is like being on the wrong side of a two-way mirror. For agonizing seconds, he doesn’t say a word.
“Oh,” he repeats, softer this time, eyes dropping to Kaidan’s mouth. The gap between them narrows until it doesn’t exist.
The kiss starts awkward, hesitant, like they’re a flickering candle that can’t get enough oxygen to catch. But then Shepard’s head tilts to the left ever so slightly, and suddenly…it does.
Shepard’s lips part wider, drawing Kaidan in, before returning to something chaste, like he’s testing what it means, how it feels. Kaidan goes with it, he’ll go anywhere Shepard leads, so long as they go there together.
The gravity well swirls with a gentle hiss of static. Shepard’s fingers curl around the hand Kaidan still splays against his chest, like an anchor locking them together. Kaidan traces the back of Shepard’s neck with a thumb, catching the stubble of freshly shaved hairs at the base of his hairline.
In the space of heartbeat, kissing Shepard is as effortless as breathing. Soft, slow, with only the stars as a witness. They take their time, letting it grow around them, taking its own shape, until it feels familiar. Theirs. Callisto buzzes with the sounds of conversations, life, and laughter taking place below them. But here, in this little pocket of time and space Shepard has carved out for them, there is only the warmth of his mouth, the hum of his biotic field, the beat of his racing heart.
It’s racing for me.  
Kaidan grips the front of Shepard’s uniform, black chain tangling in his fingers, still trapped under Shepard’s hand.   
I was made for you, Kaidan thinks as Shepard slips an arm around him.
But that isn’t true, is it? There is nothing predestined about it. Nothing written in the stars.
Only what they’d spent four years writing themselves.
When they finally part they rest their foreheads together, breathless. Shepard’s eyes flick to Kaidan’s. He reaches a hand up, hesitates, then gently runs his fingers through Kaidan’s hair. Kaidan closes his eyes and breathes deep.
“That felt…like something we should have done a long time ago.”
A laugh slips out of Kaidan. Not quite the reaction he’d planned, not that he’d had anything planned. But at the sound of it, Shepard’s face lights up like the sunrise.
“When, um. When the hell were you gonna tell me you could kiss like that?”
A flush builds at the back of Kaidan’s neck. “Didn’t, uh. Didn’t think it was relevant to your, uh, interests.”
“My fucking interests.” Shepard’s turn to laugh. “You dick.” He wraps Kaidan up in a tight embrace. Kaidan hooks an arm around his neck, the way they’ve done so many times for helmet checks, always with armor in the way.
No armor now.
“I’m sorry,” Kaidan says, head buzzing with a mix of euphoria, elation, and dread. In a matter of hours, Shepard is supposed to report to a new ship. “My timing for this is really terrible.”
“Epically terrible, are you kidding me?”
Kaidan huffs. “Well, I planned to take it to my grave, but it turns out going back to the ‘Yang without you wasn’t…something I could do.”
Shepard pulls away from him, expression turning solemn. Kaidan tries to look away, but Shepard catches his chin in his fingers and holds his gaze.
“You weren’t going to tell me. You were just gonna let me walk onto another ship and not say anything. Why? You’re—” His face scrunches up as several different emotions pass across it at once. “Why.”
“And risk losing you, because I wanted something you didn’t?” Kaidan scoffs. “No. You’re the best thing I’ve ever had in my life. I just wanted to…be in your universe, I guess. Whatever that looked like. Whatever that meant…to you. If it didn’t mean, well—”
“Making out with me.”
Kaidan rolls his eyes. “Fine, if it didn’t mean making out with you…so be it. We part ways here, and I hope like hell you call me every now and then so I can still hear your voice.”
Shepard waggles an eyebrow. “So you’re into my voice, too, huh?”
“You know what, never mind,” Kaidan says, stifling a grin. “Forget it. I’m finding another hiding spot where I can spill my guts to someone who isn’t the actual worst.”
Shepard seizes hold of him with a laugh that’s light as a bell and pulls him in close until his back is pressed against Shepard’s chest, and presses his nose to Kaidan’s ear.
“You idiot. You are my universe.”
A shiver runs down his spine. Shepard might have a point about the voice thing. The low resonance of it in his ear is…well, it’s fucking exhilarating. He grips Shepard’s arm, closes his eyes, and exhales. “Kinda feels like we’ve been saying that to each other for four years now.”
“Maybe it’s time we finally listened to ourselves.”
Kaidan turns his head and kisses him again, deep and slow.
“Fuck, I’m a great listener,” Shepard murmurs when they part. Kaidan laughs, and Shepard’s grin gets even wider.
There is no star that shines like you do.  
Shepard’s omnitool flashes. He dismisses the notification with a grunt, using the opportunity to rearrange his limbs into a more comfortable shape. A shape that includes Kaidan. His head spins.  
“Something you need to deal with?” Kaidan asks, nodding to his omnitool.
“Later. Don’t worry about it.”
“Come on, I worry about everything.”
“Yeah, I love that about you.”
Shepard’s eyes widen the moment the words are out of his mouth. Kaidan’s heart does a somersault.
“Um,” Shepard stammers. “What I meant was…” He stops. Shakes his head. “No. That’s, uh. That’s what I meant. I think I love a lot of things about you. Everything, probably. You’re—”
Kaidan cuts him off. Continuing to exist in a galaxy where the words haven’t been said out loud is something he can’t stand anymore. 
“I love you.”
It’s the truest, boldest, most honest thing he’s ever said in his life.
Shepard gazes at him, poleaxed, then chuckles weakly. “Well. We’re just having revelations all over the place today, aren’t we?”
“Figured a few more couldn’t hurt.”
“No. I…think kind of the opposite. It’s, ah.” His face relaxes a little. “It sounds kind of amazing. Something I didn’t know I wanted to hear.”
“I love you,” Kaidan repeats, softer this time.
Shepard holds him tighter, resting his head on Kaidan’s shoulder. For a few minutes, they just sit in each other’s arms and watch the stars.  
So many stars, home to so many worlds. Humanity had ventured out into the night sky and found new life, new constellations, new technology that had taken them to more stars, where they built new homes in alien frontiers. And somehow, through it all, I still managed to find you.
Some days the galaxy feels so big. Other times…it doesn’t.
“You know,” Shepard says quietly. “The day I first brought you here…I almost didn’t.”
“Oh?”
A wistful smile tugs at his lips. “I thought if I didn’t say anything, maybe you’d give up and go away and I could be left the hell alone. It was a miserable day for me. Last thing I wanted was someone else to see it.”
“What…changed your mind?”
“I knew you. You’re stubborn as hell and never give up when you’re set on something. I was doomed to never know peace.”
Kaidan chuckles.
“And you were—” He hesitates. Kaidan gives him space to put his thoughts together. “I grew up coming to this spot. Never told anyone about it. It was mine. No one could find me when I came here. But then…you did. And I realized…I wanted you to. Felt your field and was actually relieved that maybe I wasn’t going to be miserable…alone.” He laughs weakly. “Yeah, looking back, this is pretty obvious and I’m kind of an idiot.”
“I love that about you,” Kaidan says softly.
Shepard presses a kiss to his temple, but that’s not enough. Kaidan turns his head and kisses him like he means it. Shepard makes a sound that goes straight to Kaidan’s groin.
Which is when reality sets in. Kaidan pulls back and drops his gaze, fingering the black chain on Shepard’s uniform. “So…I just, ah. Made things a lot more complicated.”
“We. Team effort, here.”
“We,” Kaidan repeats. “Guess it could be worse. Could have done it while you were still my superior officer.”
Unease flicks past Shepard’s face. He shifts restlessly. “Yeah, that would, uh, make things a little more complicated.”  
Kaidan gives him a wan smile and traces the line of his jaw with his fingers, something he’s never done before, and hopes to do a thousand more time. “What do we do now?”
“How about we worry about now later? You’re the one who said I should just enjoy things for a minute.”
This is everything you wanted.
Kaidan settles back against him and exhales. Shepard wraps his arms around him. A few hours ago, the future had felt so bleak. As empty as the space between all those stars.
Leave it to Shepard to shine bright enough to fill up the gaps.
“Thanks,” Kaidan murmurs.
“For what?”
“For not turning me away that day.”
The gravity well hums as Shepard leans in and kisses him again, the way it only does when their fields collide.
“Thank you…for staying.”

Over the years, Jadis has made several deals with Rick and pretty much every single time she screwed him over. 😪 And unsurprisingly, Jadis tries to screw Rick and Michonne over again as she and Richonne attempt to make more deals in the following TOWL scene. However, this time around will be the final deal. Finally. 🙌🏽...
Richonne enter a Yellowstone National Park museum and it’s fitting for Jadis' final moments to take place in this sorta artsy location.

As Rick and Michonne quietly hunt Jadis down they come across that bumbling trio from earlier and once again they easily disarm them. And then walkers come and take the trio out which…how those three survived this long I’ll never know lol.
So then a shootout ensues with Jadis. And it’s sweet seeing Rick and Michonne hold onto each other as they run away.

Jadis is again yapping about living and dying for the cause and calling Rick a traitor and then when Rick pokes his head out she straight up aims for the head and grazes him with her shot. 😑Knowing how fatal that shot could have been to Rick, Jadis’ needed to be sent to the afterlife immediately. Michonne says Rick’s name with concern as they switch places and he assures that he’s alright. And proving yet again that Jadis oddly might belong in the Top 5 Richonne Believers, she says, “You two together, you are unstoppable.”
Then she gets way too personal when she says, “But that won’t save your kids. You kill me, they’re dead. I die by my wounds, they’re dead.” And she’s feeling extra bold as she steps out of hiding and says, “I get killed by walkers, they’re dead.”
What Jadis fails to see is that having the audacity to threaten Michonne and Rick’s kids in front of them like this guarantees she’s dead. Like Jadis, hon...

You can tell Michonne is seeing red as she steps out with her gun aimed at Jadis. Understandably, because now Jadis is triggering Michonne as a mother.
Rick calls Michonne's name but Michonne is ready to end this lady once and for all as she debates pulling the trigger. Jadis almost looks like she’s beckoning her to do it, but knowing they actually do need some info out of Jadis first, Michonne instead kills the walkers coming from behind Jadis.

When Michonne runs out of bullets, Jadis starts shooting and they both flee for cover. Jadis tries to dish out more of that CRM culty propaganda when she says, “It didn’t have to be this way. You were on the path, Rick. After all these years, you were finally feeling the responsibility to fight for something bigger than yourself.”
Wth, Jadis? 😑 Hearing that I was like - truly girl, shut up because what do you mean he finally felt a responsibility to fight for something bigger than himself?? As if Jadis didn’t meet Rick in the process of him fighting a whole war to free oppressed communities. 🙃 She's an absolute clown. 🤡

Rick makes his way over to Michonne as Jadis tells Rick that “Beale saw it too. He was gonna give you the Echelon briefing the moment you returned.” Yeah well, Consignee Bethune had other plans lol. 😋🚁🌊
And then I always really like this wordless exchange between Rick and Michonne. Because as Jadis claims that Rick’s eyes would have been opened by the briefing, Michonne looks at him and then he looks up at her and the ways it’s filmed you can just tell that there is nothing the CRM could say or open his eyes too that would make him not choose Michonne every single time.

Jadis says Rick could have secured Alexandria’s security but he didn’t. Then she tries to make Michonne an issue by saying, “You let Michonne pull you away from that.” If only Jadis knew how true that was considering Michonne literally pulled them out of a helicopter to get away from this army. 🤭
Then Jadis wants to start coming at Michonne directly saying all she had to do was leave when Rick arranged for her escape and since she didn’t Jadis declares that now the fates of their friends and their children are sealed. Ok, Little Miss Villain...

Rick tries to again appeal to Jadis’ heart, if she has one, by saying she doesn’t really want to kill everyone back home. He calls her Anne again and he’s onto something regarding the name Anne getting Jadis riled up cuz she sounds particularly irritated as she doubles down on the CRM perspective that, “It’s not about want. It’s about keeping your humanity or saving humanity. And it is a choice.”
In a way, that is the very thing TOWL explored with Rick’s journey. He thought he had to just die and save humanity but through Michonne he regained his humanity and the belief that they can both keep their humanity and save humanity, it doesn’t have to be either/or.
Jadis says she’s chosen her community and her life and then questions if it’ll be them that dies today or her and everyone back home. And the way Michonne got a good swing at Jadis with RJ’s ax, it’s looking like Jadis is going to be the one meeting her demise. Her time is clearly almost up.

So playing pretend one more time, Michonne says, “She’s right, Rick.”  And then Rick and Michonne demonstrate yet again that verbal communication is just a thing they do for fun because they are entirely capable of conversing and making entire plans just by looking at each other.
As they look in each others eyes they immediately know to try and pull a con on the original scammer herself. Also I just realized this is Michonne once again choosing to just not even address Jadis and speak only to Rick.

Michonne says, “I didn’t want to see it. I wanted her dead so I didn’t have to see it. But Rick, there has to be a sacrifice. Since I found you, all that I’ve done has been for us. But now I see, this can’t end with us going home.”
Jadis asks what’s it gonna be and then Rick says, “Okay,” pretending to agree that he’ll stay with the CRM if Jadis doesn’t threaten Michonne or their home. 
Michonne says, “There’s still a deal to me made, one where we all can live and Alexandria.” And hearing yet another deal even be attempted to be made with Judas was just...

Fortunately, it’s a fake deal and the final deal with this snake.
Rick says Michonne will get supplies that’ll help Jadis stay alive long enough to get to the jump point and then Rick will go back with Jadis. The shot of Michonne looking at Rick as he says this. 🥲 It just truly feels like she’s looking at the love of her life. 🥹
Rick looks in Michonne’s eyes as he tells Jadis that they can say he was the lone survivor of the helicopter crash and he’ll go back to the CRM to work for a future like none of this ever happened.
He says they’ll do this on one condition and Jadis already knows when she says, “Michonne gets away and I never tell them about Alexandria.” Rick says, “It’s the only way this works” and then I love his subtle wink at Michonne when he asks, “We got a deal?” 
Jadis wonders why she should trust Rick after all the stuff he’s pulled but that had me like why should you trust him???? Pretty ironic coming from literally the longest-running scammer in the franchise. 😑

Rick understandably isn’t interested in convincing Jadis why he can be trusted so he just asks, “We got a deal or not?” Jadis isn’t doing so hot from the blood loss so she agrees and says, “Yeah. We got a deal.”
Then, y’all I adore seeing the small detail of Rick and Michonne holding hands. 😭 I love that they were holding hands during this deal, wanting each other to know that regardless of what they’re saying to Jadis right now they’re still entirely in this together.
And I also love that Rick doesn't let go of Michonne’s hand until the very last second as she stands up to come out of hiding and “go get supplies.” 🧲 TOWL said every Richonne scene is gonna have a dash of romance and I’m beyond here for it. 🥰

So Michonne tosses her weapon and exits and I love that she puts a little feisty emphasis on the weapon toss when she looks at Jadis. And then Rick disarms and shows himself as Jadis tells him to come closer.
Jadis lays down her weapons and Rick of course takes one more opportunity to let Petty Rick shine as he looks at Jadis on death's door and says, “You’ve looked better.” When I tell you I love this extra man lol. 😋 I know he’s appreciating the number his wife did on this garbage woman. And whenever Rick’s eyebrows go up like that, just know some shade is bound to follow. 🤭

Jadis again expresses acknowledgement of the power of Richonne when she says, “I was a fool to think I could take you down, with you two together.” Jadis never got much right in life, but she did have a solid grasp on the fact that Rick and Michonne really do make each other stronger and they're hard to beat together. She explains that’s why she agreed to the deal so she could keep Rick and Michonne separate.
And then to the *utter shock* of everyone, Jadis whips out Red’s red gun and attempts to double cross them for the fifty-'leventh time. 🙄But I love how Rick responds unfazed to her ploy like he thinks it’s the most predictable thing ever. 🥱 A serpent gon’ do what a serpent gon’ do, so I'm sure seeing her aim the gun just had Rick like...

Jadis says she doesn’t trust Rick but she respects him. And then Michonne shows up with a weapon pointed at Jadis and tells her to drop the gun or she’ll kill her.
Then, those noodle-less walkers come and bite a chunk out of Jadis' neck. And getting fatally bit instantly spurs Jadis' come-to-Jesus.

Jadis goes into a monologue about the many lives she tried to balance with her back and forth between Jadis and Anne and the CRM and the Alexandrians. And Richonne is nice enough to listen to her last words.
As she realizes Father Gabriel already showed her the answers she needed (realized too late imo 🙃), Jadis reveals where her dossier is hidden and tells them to just destroy it and go home.
She still believes in the CRM and that they’ll bring the world back, so she looks at Michonne and Rick and says, “Tell me you won’t come after them.” And then y’all, Michonne says request denied because she doesn’t give a damn if this is Jadis' dying wish, they’re gonna do what needs to be done. 👌🏽
Michonne replies, “No. Because we are coming for them.” And the way Rick looks, it appears like this development is news to him lol. But I love that Michonne wants Jadis to know this just before she goes.

Michonne continues, “We’re gonna get the dossier. And then the CRM - we’re gonna stop them.” She looks over at Rick as she continues to inform both Rick and Jadis of what comes next when she says, “He’s gonna get the Echelon briefing and find out everything that they do that the city doesn’t know about. The city I saw won’t stand for what they are. And we’re gonna help the city stop them.”
And y’all, the way Jadis is staring at Michonne...I know she’s thinking ‘and this is why I wrote a whole chapter on Rick's wife in my dossier.’ #DirectQuoteFromJadis'Mind. 🤭 Had her like...

Then knowing how much Jadis loves being called Anne, Michonne calmly says, “Because, Anne, the CRM is not the answer and they must end.” And, with the way Bowlcut believes in Richonne, you know Jadis knows they’re going to be successful at stopping the CRM.
Jadis really had to die knowing she and the very mission she dedicated her life to are about to take some serious Ls. 😬
Michonne then turns to Rick and says, “We’re gonna do that.” See, Michonne has been through a whole lot of life and so she’s standing here now knowing the CRM can be taken down just like all the rest.
And always a great and supportive husband, Rick is on board with this plan as he looks from Michonne over to Jadis and says, “You kept us alive for a reason.” And I love the way Rick subtly smiles at her, knowing Jadis is getting yet another front-row seat to the power of Richonne.

Hearing this seems to have Jadis realizing she made some bad life choices and should have just stuck to her artsy lane when she says, “I wish I died an artist.” I always really like that line. Something about it is poetic and pretty in a tragic way.
But also, whenever I hear it I’m like girl, don’t worry you did die an artist...

Jadis reflects on how her life as an artist wasn’t about survival but about truth. She says this is the end of her story and her peace and then it becomes crystal clear a Richonne proposal moment is coming when Jadis removes the wedding ring and holds it out.
As she holds the ring, she tells Rick, “On the bridge, you told Gabriel you wanted to marry her.” And I love that this gets brought up again and that Michonne gets to learn that Rick was planning to marry her officially before he was taken.
The way Jadis looks over to Michonne when she says this always makes me smile because she looks quite happy to let Michonne know, 'yes girl, your man was trying to...

Jadis puts the ring in Rick’s hand and says, “He found this, and he wanted to give it to you.” Rick is shook by this and asks, “How did you...?” And I feel like with the way Rick so clearly had proposing on his mind during this road trip home I’m sure that has him even more bewildered of how Jadis knew this.
Jadis just smiles and shakes her head which had me like - hold up up up cuz no we’re nawt just shrugging off this detail of how she got the ring and was in contact with Father Gabriel. I needed her to tell them about her tea times with Gabriel because Richonne needs to interrogate that man when they get home lol. 🙃

Jadis tells Rick he wasn’t dreaming about killing her and then says, “Go ahead. Do what you said you would do. Please.” Michonne and Rick stand up and the time arrives for Rick to finally take Jadis out for good.
Jadis dies and it’s a somber vibe as Rick just quietly walks away and Michonne follows. After playing in Richonne’s face from season 7 forward, stealing years from them, and putting their children in danger, I felt it was only right for her to go. Even overdue. And while that monologue didn’t at all redeem her in my eyes, it was well-performed by McIntosh and had some heart.

One of the earliest ways that trifling Jadis tried Richonne was in the season 7 finale when she said she was gonna lay with Rick and asked Michonne if she cared. 🙃 Y’all remember when she looked Rick up and down, turned to Michonne, and asked, “Yours?”

I always find it to be poetically fitting that here in Jadis’ final episode, it’s also the very episode where Rick and Michonne affirm that Jadis' "Yours?" question actually isn’t that crazy because Rick and Michonne really do happily belong to each other.
He’s hers. She’s his. 🥲
So you know I gotta break down the absolutely beautiful scene that makes that sentiment crystal clear. 😌👌🏽💍

What's your opinion on the anime? I find it pretty funny, but I can't say that I am not disappointed to see so many scenes missing.
For exemple, I wanted to see Dazai cry laugh at Chuuya's young mistress act, show that it was a joke shared by both of them, rather than one made to us at the expense of Chuuya. They took a genuinely funny moment and made me cringe SO hard for no reason T^T
God i could go on for hours about how Bones ruined this series. I'm obviously thankful we have an anime adaptation but. Well just compare bsd anime to jjk one or smth and yeah.
I will be complaining more under the cut,,
First the overall writing choices:
-Deleting or changing skk scenes to the point im not even shocked when ppl think these two actually somehow hate each other.
-The way they portrayed Sigma. They deleted half of his personality and backstory. And just speedrunned the Sky Casino arc like if seeing that place was giving them nightmares. No wonder he gets mischaracterized now.
-Tachihara's internal conflict about belonging to either Port Mafia or The Hunting Dogs? Bones never heard about it. It's not like IT'S A VERY IMPORTANT PLOT POINT.
-Akutagawa's whole character in the anime is just 'edgy and angry and bad grr'. In the manga he had some 'kind' or even seelf-reflection moments that were ommited in the anime. Like where he realizes defeating Atsushi didn't satisfy him (ship fight, season 1). Or when he gives files about the orphanage Director to Atsushi and says he won't fight him today because he lost someone impirtant to him. Sskk vs Fukuchi fight?? No scene where Sskk r helping each other walk. Instead we get Akutagwa just pushing Atsushi away. Won't even start on that last smile that looked more like another angry expression.
-THE WAY THEY CHANGED "DAZAI'S ENTRANCE EXAM" INTO SOME CURRENT TIMELINE EPISODES. IT MAKES ME SO ANGRY LIKE. THIS NOVEL WAS SO GOOD. Showing both Dazai and Kunikida's characters and partnership so well. But no. Let's just??? Put Atsushi there. Let's delete the fact this thing happened 2 years ago. And let's delete everything that was actually important about it, too.
-also some changes in the Dark Era arc. Like. Lord. Dazai is so much more emotional in the novel. His expressions r described so well. But the anime either shows him from the back at those moments (him finding out Oda was almost killed by a sniper in Ango's room) or just deletes/changes the thing (Oda dying. This scene is so emotional in the novel. From the description u can tell Dazai was crying/on the verge of it as Odasaku died. But in the anime he looks calm and then we get a far aeay frame and he just. Gets up and that's it yeah.) They also deleted the scene of him visiting Oda's grave.
-The way they rushed seasons 4 and 5. Just to give us an episode that goes further than the manga and has the shittiest writing ever when it comes to skk's plan revelation (im so angry about this u guys have no idea. I sincerely believe that if this episode never came out, the manga would go differently bc there's no way that Asagiri who wrote things like Stormbringer suddenly thought that some dollar store vampire make up will fool a guy who's centuries old and literally lived next to vampires. But well!! Seems like these two speeches Dazai gave weren't important at all and now we can just forget about them yippiee)
I could definitely mention WAYY more examples of that but this is already long af. Like guys. I know u cant fit everything in an animated show. It takes time to make it and all but. Bro. The character's in the anime r so shallow compared to their original versions.

Now onto the artstyle of the anime.
Lord. U know? It was actually pretty in the first 2 seasons. The official arts at the time were also really nice to look at.
No idea what happened later. Why did Bones suddenly decide that those ugly turtle smiles r gonna become the main thing in the character design. Why so many fisheyes. Atp sometimes i look at the official art and i go oh lord even i could fix it. It really feels like they draw some characters ugly on purpose now (Chuuya being the main victim for unknown reasons).
Tho i must say they have their moments even now. Some last episodes of season 5 weren't really bad, especially the Meursault part (love them for animating Dazai and Sigma dancing so well. And for that 101 animation. And maybe for the heartattack they gave me with 109 and Chuuya shooting Dazai so many times.)

So, as promised (original post here), here'a little makeup scene that I wrote as a potential ending for my WIP, but it didn't really fit with the rest of the story so I thought I'd post it here as a standalone.
For some context, I thought it would be a really cute idea for Wade to use Mary as a proxy to talk to Logan after a big fight. Logan, of course being the way that he is, moved out because he thought it was over between the two of them but Wade just couldn't stay away. And being the way that he is, can't just own up to his feelings either. Enjoy!

Logan went to answer the knock on the door, swearing under his breath that if it’s that damn neighbor again–
As he opened it, he felt the wind knock out of him at the sight of Wade holding Mary Puppins. He was prepared to possibly never see him again, to spend the rest of eternity wishing things would have turned out differently, but here he was. God, he looked like shit. He had on his oversized pullover hoodie, baggy black sweatpants, and his blue crocs, which Logan knew meant he had been living in them for a while.
“What are you doing here?” Logan asked, his voice going hoarse.
They stared at each other for a long moment, before Wade lifted up Mary Puppins. “Mary wanted to see her mama again.”
Logan’s eyebrow quirked. “Really?”
Wade looked down and swallowed before he spoke again. “Yeah. She can’t really sleep anymore without her mama there and she’s been crying a bunch because she misses her so much. She wouldn’t have come but Al threatened to shank her and kick her out if she didn’t come and see Mama.”
Logan crossed his arms, keeping his face schooled into a hard scowl. “But Mama thought that Mary didn’t want him–her there anymore. That she was going to be with her old mama and be happy with her.”
Wade steeled himself against Logan’s skeptical gaze. “Well, like Mary told Mama before, Mary still loves her old mama very much and always will, but she was just a friend helping Mary because Mama was being a stoic douchebag who wouldn’t talk to Mary and Mary was going fucking insane. Besides…there’s only one Mama in Mary’s life. And she really wishes that her mama will come home and stay like she promised to.”
“What about her papa?”
Wade's jaw clenched, and tears started welling in his beautiful brown eyes. “Papa thinks that Mary was so fucked up because…why would somebody as hot as Mama want something as fugly as Mary.” Wade gestured with her in his arms. “I mean look at her, she looks like an elephant’s vulva that needs a serious Brazilian wax. Mama could have literally anybody, what would she want with Mary?”
Logan felt tears pricking his own eyes. “Mama wants Mary because she’s the best fucking thing to ever happen to her. Because as fugly as Mary thinks she looks on the outside, Mama feels just as fugly on the inside, and Mary made her believe that she was more than what Mama thought she was.” Logan stepped across the threshold, closer to Wade. “Because Mary is the most beautiful thing Mama’s ever seen, inside and out. And Mama would give anything to make Mary see that.”
Logan let the tears fall down as he cupped Wade’s face. “And Mama would really like to stop talking about Mary right now so that she can kiss her handsome papa, and tell him how sorry she is and how much she loves him.”
Wade sniffed and chuckled, “Well, Papa hasn’t brushed his teeth in three weeks so maybe Mama shouldn’t–” Logan grabbed the back of Wade’s head and smashed their lips together to shut him up, and for good measure, shoved his tongue in to lick the inside of Wade’s mouth. Mary became worked up by all the emotions, and excitedly licked their chins as they kissed.
The two of them walked back to Wade’s apartment, holding hands as the orangey glow of evening slipped into lavender dusk. When they walked in, Al called out to the both of them as she was sitting on the couch watching Family Feud, “About damn time you two got your shit together. Couldn’t take another day of Wade’s moping and bitching around the damn apartment.”
“Thank you, Al. Now if you’ll excuse us, we want to have very loud, very messy makeup sex so if you can please fuck off to your room now, that’d be great.”
Al got up yelling in disgust, “Uh-uh! Don’t you dare get jizz on this couch or I swear to God I’m cutting both your dicks off!”
“No promises! And take Mary with you, we need to preserve her innocence!”
Al puttered off to her bedroom, patting her leg for Mary to follow, “C’mon Mary. I mean it you two! I feel one ounce of dried spunk on that upholstery and your ass is grass!”
Once Al closed the door, Wade and Logan looked at each other, unsure of themselves. The words that they flung at each other hung in the air, echoing in both their minds.
"Um," Wade whispered. "I didn't get to say it before but I'm sorry, too."
Logan huffed and wrapped his arms around Wade's shoulders, pulling him in a soft embrace. "You don't have to apologize, sweetheart. I was the one being a dick and keeping my bullshit to myself. I should've talked to you." He buried his nose in Wade's neck, breathing in his scent deeply. "God, I missed you."
Wade kissed the side of Logan's head. "I missed you, too, peanut." He sighed as he ran his hands around Logan's waist, down his back, then grabbed two handfuls of Logan's ass. "Now that that's out of the way, how about we get it on like two jackrabbits on ketamine?"
Logan laughed as he pulled away and smacked Wade's ass, "After you."

that thing about the chapters makes total sense yeah! i liked hearing you break down the themes and realisations etc, it's nice to hear meaty info about the creative process and undercurrents in the work alongside the jokier interactive posts you guys usually make!
and we are both aware that we could probably cut certain scenes or events out, but we also are very adamant about maintaining a pace that feels realistic and makes sense, which usually leads to those higher word counts 😙
the word count splitting absolutely makes sense then, too - two halves of a whole. i'm surprised people have complained about wanting you to cut down on actual scenes for word count purposes... i wouldnt want to lose action or scenes themselves! maybe they meant more brevity or succintness? not repeating things that don't add to the narrative as much, etc. because the dialogue between characters is the most exciting part, as it usually is in storytelling! its happening NOW, we're IN IT with these characters, its so compelling compared to description or that famous bane of writers' lives: long recountings of events that happened previously or 'offscreen'.
please don't cut out action scenes and dialogue - i'm thinking of how my heart picked up when mike was waiting for will to get the sparklers, that tension was so well played... and also the final scene of 10.2, how fast mike's realisations moved as he kissed will into the sand. a vast contrast to how long it took to get there - so perhaps your stylistic choice is to slow the pace and draw out that delicious tension by making characters very pedantic and introspective rather than by adding more external action, dialogue, or obstacles that prevent them getting where they want to go. mike and will ARE their own biggest obstacles, it seems. and perhaps this is the vibe you wanted to create; it makes for a story that really feeds into the cloyingness of being stuck in your head and being stuck in one place - camp - no matter how much the boys both love it. the camp itself becomes a crucible for the story, giving the reader themselves something of the same claustrophobic feeling mike and will must have. very meta!
i’m so glad that helped clear things up from our perspective! we like to largely let the fic speak for itself obviously, so we usually refrain from flat out saying what the intention behind certain decisions was, but in the context of asks like this and the og regarding chapter/overall fic structure, it did seem fitting to clarify the purposes of chapters 9 and 10 more specifically so i’m glad everything makes sense! sorry for the absolute beast of an answer that’s going to follow, except for i’m not. teehee
regarding the word count, i don’t think we’ve been told outright that we should cut down on certain scenes to keep the wc lower, aside from maybeeee a comment or two that i can remember remarking on us over-describing or over-narrating things? which is probably true at times but also honestly that’s just me n thea’s writing style, so if there is something really egregious we will likely catch it while editing and otherwise we’ll just let it slide 🤷🏽‍♀️ overall though, i feel like it’s more of an implied thing — since we talk often about chapters taking longer to get out due to our typical 20-30k count, i’m sure a few people have wondered why we choose to include all of the interactions and details that we do. thea did actually give me the push i needed to take out an almost 2k chunk that we both loved but agreed was a little clunky and unnecessary in the context of what was happening, and its removal wasn’t detracting from any characters or relationships or worldbuilding in the chapter. so there are definitely times that we do decide something isn’t important enough to tack on a couple thousand extra words, and we will rectify that when possible!
this also brings me to your point about Long Recountings of Offscreen Events — that’s also something we try really hard to avoid, and when we do want to recount something that happened in the past or offscreen, as is natural for basically every story, we do try to make it feel natural and in the moment, like a character is simply remembering or thinking about something instead of trying to catch the reader up to present day. i LOVEE writing dialogue, maybe too much (i added almost all of the 1700ish words i deleted back again with dialogue. oops) but i completely agree with you in that the In The Moment-ness of it all is what’s most compelling to me as well — writing their reactions as they happen, or adding distinctive mannerisms and thoughts and motions while two or more characters speak.,, ougghh it makes my brain vibrate. but of course you need narration and descriptions to fill in those gaps, and i hope our efforts come off as at least somewhat successful! and for the most part, fleshing out the characters and the story and setting as much as possible is just as key to us as the Byler Moments are — if we wanted to focus on only every interaction mike and will had with each other while tabling those with the rest of the party, background/original characters, or the setting of camp as a whole, we would write a much different (and much shorter) fic instead :-)
finally, about 10.2 specifically: THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH WHDBHDHDGDJ <- me blubbering with happiness FRRR. thea can tell you firsthand that i spent many weeks banging my head against my desk trying to hammer out the entirety of the bonfire scene and its transitions — it was particularly tricky for me to try and balance general pacing with the inclusion of other characters And having everything lead up to the final moments, so i’m so so so glad it was a good read and that everything felt fitting and intentional because it was definitely meant to be! thea mentioned this in the last ask but will in ch09 gets kind of bowled over by his realization moment all at once, whereas mike kind of has two separate ones — one in 10.1, and one at the end of 10.2, both helping him come to terms with similar but different aspects of his romantic feelings and processing them and moving forward — and i didn’t want them to feel like the same moment happening twice (past a certain obvious degree).
they definitely are their own worst obstacles, especially in a modern au that takes away a good amount (but definitely not all!) of the canon universe pressure of comphet and sexuality and conformation. i know this is a big reason people tend to shy away from modern aus in this fandom, because it’s true that the source material is pretty heavy on these themes, and i have my thoughts on this that i’ll probably expand on soon, but to me, in doing so, it’s kind of a really fun exercise in fleshing out their internal struggles and playing off of those more, if that makes sense: their shared stubbornness, self-repression, reactivity and emotional tendencies, etc, but also the fact that they are very kind, generous, and loyal characters who, at least in the context of acswy, are more scared of being hurt by each other or themselves than they are actually invested in “hating” each other. and you bring up an excellent point as well, probably something that has been more of a subconscious but known goal for us than something we are On Purpose trying to get across: everything is happening in one location during one part of the year for a reason! they’ve had good memories here and bad, both in regards to each other and their friendship and otherwise, and are drawn to coming back every summer just as much as they are each other. with the brief exception of ch09 (although the context of it is a Rare Day Away From Camp, so the idea is still there lol), the emotional journey of the mainline fic very much plays out in the same place to try and convey that.

It was a normal day at the office, a new case taking everyone's attention. You, however, were running late, a sickness forcing you to stay behind longer than necessary. You've had you suspicions, and had finally confirmed them. You were pregnant.
You finally made your way into the office, heading straight towards the debrief room. Everyone had already started on the case, looking at some photographs and files. You sat down and looked at the person closest to you: JJ. Asking for a quick debrief, you grabbed some of the files strewn across the table.
You sigh gently, the nausea and small pains not wearing down. Eventually, it was time to leave and go to Arizona. You tried to get comfortable on the plane, shifting around endlessly in your seat. The plane ride was as usual, final debriefs and predictions were being made as you only got more restless.
"You ok? Looks like you're a little restless right now," Derek all but whispered. You nodded, not really in the mood to talk as eyes were on you. "You know if you aren't feeling well you could've stayed at the office? Keep Garcia some company?" he continued. "I'm fine," you replied, somewhat annoyed.
You lean back into your seat as you listen to the voices around you. You look out the plane window, as you count down the hours to your landing. For some reason, you were very anxious about this case.
-Time Skip-
Derek was going over the profile over the unsub when one of the officers interrupted him. "Doesn't that agent there fit the uh... unsub's victims?" It went silent as your coworkers turned to look at you. You glanced between them nervously and saw Aaron shake his head a little.
The awkward silence lasted a few more seconds before Aaron broke the silence. "The unsub finds joy in torturing his victims and this torture lasts a long time. It's important to get this profile to the media, as he could easily be someone you know."
The police started to file out of the room as your friends came up to you. "Are you sure you want to be a part of this? He was right you know, these victims do have a lot of similarities to you," JJ whispered. You gave her a small smile and shook your head. "I'll be fine, JJ, thanks," You responded shakily. She looked at you wearily before giving you a firm nod.
You got back to work, occasionally glancing around at your teammates. You hoped they wouldn't become to protective over you. You shifted through the files, looking over the pictures to see if you missed anything. You looked at the way they were positioned, the way the grass laid, and even the way the trees faced.
You were very deep in thought, thoroughly analyzing any and every detail you saw, when a sharp ring interrupted your focus. Spencer answered the phone, listening a bit before beckoning everyone over. 'There's been another murder,' he mouthed. You let out a breath and closed your eyes. You needed to find this killer fast.
"Ok, Morgan, Prentiss, you go and secure the crime scene. Reid, you're with Y/n. Interview any witnesses and people who live in the area," Aaron ordered. You all nod before quickly making your way out the door. Spencer made it to the car first and stopped you before you got in. "Hey um.. you sure you're ok?" Spencer licked his lips as he glanced around, eyes quickly darting to your face.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I don't know why you guys keep asking that," you sighed. "We're just worried about you. You're part of our team; we care." He was quick to defend himself. You just waved him away and got into the car. Eventually, you both made it to the crime scene. You got out and started glancing around. It was... weirdly empty.
An uneasy feeling washed over you. You took a few more steps away from the car and saw a figure from the corner of your eye. You whipped around and signaled at Spencer. He nodded and followed behind you. You followed the figure, slowly getting closer to him. He wasn't a good runner.
As you raised your gun up, a hand grabbed both you and Spencer. Your firearm was ripped out of your hands and you were hit in the head. You turned to Spencer and tried to reach out as everything finally went black.
Everything hurt. Your head. Your arms. Your legs. You couldn't open your eyes. You couldn't hear anything but your breathing. You tried to move around, quickly noticing you were chained up. The coolness of the chain was nice against your fired skin.
You leaned your head back against the cool wall. Your mouth was dry. Just how long had you been out? You let out a cough, as you tried not to focus on it. "Y/N, are you awake?" a weak voice asked. "Spencer?" you weakly muttered back, another cough racking your body. "Can you see anything?" You heard the rattling of chains. "Um, no, I.. I can't."
You let in a quick breath, and talked your head up. You sat like that for what felt like hours, listening to the breathing of Spencer. A sudden echo of footsteps interrupted, quickly followed by the creaking of a door. You slowed your breathing down, trying to stay as silent as possible.
The footsteps slowed down and then finally stopped. "You're finally awake, huh?" a sharp voice cuts through the silence. You flinch at the unknown voice as you try your hardest not to make a sound. "Why so quiet? Are you just not enough pain?" He starts laughing and you feel the tip of a knife slightly pierce the skin of your stomach.
You start shaking, your instincts to protect your baby slowly overcoming you. "Awe. Are you scared?" the voice condescendingly asked. You bare your teeth to where you heard the voice and let out a low growl. You were too preoccupied to hear the rattling of the chains as Spencer tried to break free.
The knife suddenly plunged deeper, and you let out a yelp. Tears started forming in the corner of your eyes and started cascading down your face. Blood was pooling down and you heard him cackle. You started sobbing wildly as you felt another strike to your stomach.
"Poor little crybaby," the voice mocked. You tried gasping for air as sobs wracked your body. Your sniffling got louder when a sudden crack ripped through the room. A loud growl resonated through the room and the thump of a body falling onto the ground.
You gasped loudly, and heard a switch flip on. "Hey, hey, Y/N! Are you ok??" You let out a loud sob in response, words barely tumbling out of your mouth. "Hey, y-you're ok. I've got you," he stuttered. You let a deep breath in, smelling comforting pheromones.
You slowly stopped crying, the terror turning into confusion. How. How did he know?
Your breaths turned short once more as you felt a blindfold be taken off. You blinked and looked at Spencer. "Y-You. You know?" you whimpered. He nodded. "I could start smelling you. In distress? I couldn't control myself."
He started working fast to unchain you and then put pressure onto your wounds. "They'll be here soon. I swear. They'll be here," he comforted. You nodded and looked around as your vision was fading. It was so fluffy. You looked down towards your stomach, seeing how bad the wounds were. There was so much blood.
You felt sick. You quickly came back to your senses and panicked for what felt like the millionth time. Your baby. You couldn't feel your baby. You started sobbing as you heard a door being kicked down. "See there here for us. I just need you to relax for me. You'll be ok."
No matter how calming the words were, how peaceful the scent was, you still couldn't calm down. You heard a multitude of footsteps, both your pheromones and instincts going wild. You couldn't keep up, until you finally dropped.
It was cold when you woke up. The first thing you felt were scratchy sheets. Then the warmth of a hand. You tried to open your eyes and let out a small groan. You finally got enough energy to open your eyes and was immediately blinded. It was so white. A hospital. You were safe now.
As you finally realized where you were, you finally noticed the people around you. Your team. Your friends. "How are you feeling?" Derek asked. You couldn't talk, your throat too dry. Instead, you settled for a head shake. You were brought a bottle of water and helped sitting up.
You drank at the water greedily, feeling like it was the first drop of water you've had in months. When you were finally finished, you were asked a question you never, ever, wanted to hear. "Why didn't you tell us you were an omega?" You couldn't even make out who asked, just simply being gutted at being found out.
"I-" your voice was scratchy from the lack of use. You cleared your throat and tried again. "I didn't want to be seen as weak," you said softly, looking down. It was silent for a moment, but before anything could be said, a knock was at the door. A nurse entered with a tray and clipboard. She shooed everyone out and stood right next to you.
She gently put the tray of food down, and gave you a gentle smile. "How long have I been here?" you asked. "You've been here for a little over a month. That was a serious drop, as your body was trying to protect and heal the baby."
The baby. Was the baby ok? "Is the baby ok?" you looked up with hopeful eyes. She looked at you with a look of sympathy and you already knew. You couldn't even tell the news to Aaron. They were gone. You started to cry again and asked to see Aaron.
She complied and left to get him. A few still moments passed and you finally heard the gentle footsteps of your husband. He stopped next to your bed and grabbed your hand. "I'm sorry." was all you said to him. "Darling? What are you sorry for?" he asked, moving his hand to force you to look at him.
Silence filled the room as he waited for your answer. "The baby."
The atmosphere grew tense. The uncomfortable silence grew even more. "The baby? You-You were pregnant?" he stuttered out. You nodded and forced your head away from him, curling into yourself. "Oh darling. I'm sorry. I'm so so sorry," he whispered and quickly pulled you into a hug.
Sorry? Why was he sorry? It was your fault. You couldn't protect your baby. "Darling, I want you to look at me. I know that in that pretty head of yours, you think that it's your fault. But it is not your fault. You hear me? It is not your fault darling."

rewatching episode 3 of AAA (cause for some reason it's been unwatched on my account even though I did watch it!) and just an interesting study on Agatha:
(disney isn't letting me screencap so I'll just have to do quotes sadly....)
it's interesting retrospectively watching this and you can tell Agatha is plotting, like what does she say to the rest of the coven cause she's literally making it up as she goes. Does she know it's Billy yet?
Billy is manifesting this whilst they're thinking about what form of trials they are up against e.g. when Alice says trials, Billy's brain immediately thinks of trials. Oh Billy, little do you know...
I do not see Kathryn, only Agatha, but also impressive of Agatha to make it up on the way.
when Agatha says 'safe as kittens' and puts her hands up like that, i feel like that's soft agatha <3
why is agatha putting her hand on her chest when they go into the house? Kathryn tell me your acting choices !

just rewatched this exact episode right now with the bestie @ragnarockz cause they are a whore for the Agatha milf fit in the first trial (can’t blame them though 👀)
So funny when she’s coming up with shit she’s like “1 trial for each skill” and then gives a little look like hell yea I kinda cooked with that one ngl. Then they get in the house and she’s like “the road changes for the coven” and she’s like damn I’m good at this making shit up on the spot stuff. 😏

I heard someone saying something about some sort of grounding technique when Agatha puts her hand on her chest. But I can’t remember the exacts words I’m sorry.
Idk if she think it’s Nicky, I feel like she explained she was unsure for a bit so could have been. But even if she didn’t think it was him I think she would have stopped him. Recently was talking about how in Wandavision she made pb & j sandwiches for the boys with chips on the side and that’s just the cutest thing ever. And you know why, because I think agatha is a milf first! Excuse me… slipped up there… I mean a mother first! Yea she’s bad, mean and even evil if you will but one thing she’s gonna do is be a good mom (while alive).
The nails kill me a bit. Like I don’t love them. But her fingers are going 100 miles a minute in this episode it’s insanely hot.
No one deserved to die and I miss them ALL OKAY GIVE THEM BACK TO ME. I want them all to be alive and happy 😭🥺💖
She didn’t trade her baby you’re right. Not sure why it would have made her so upset. I feel like I’m the worst person to come to cause I just be watching things. But maybe it just reminded her that this is what people think of her but she believes the truth is worse, so maybe it reminds her of the truth? I’m just a simple girl. I was not made for this kind of thing. Maybe anything Nicky makes her upset. Maybe she wishes she could have used the darkhold to bring him back but it never worked out. I don’t know much about that though.
Agatha is selfish but I love women’s rights and women’s wrongs so what can I say? I love the bad boys… right?
Yea when teen/billy says “so what do we do?” outside of the house and Agatha just locks eyes with him and just does the biggest smile….

CRCB Dr. Keller's Office and the Med Center Layout
Since this is going to be rather relevant for the next part of the story, I figured I'd do this now. I drew up a little layout of the med center, and then I created Dr. Keller's office in the Sims to kind of give everyone an idea of what it looks like and where it's located.
The Med Center

It's two storeys, but the main floor is really the most important. It's split between the ER, surgery center, and medical professionals' private offices on the first floor, along with some private exam rooms for special uses (like Dr. Keller and the reader.) Most of the time, when the reader is entering the building, they're going through the secondary entrance. The second floor is the main clinic area for everyone else. I didn't bother drawing it because it's not really relevant to the story. This is mostly just to show where Dr. Keller's office is and sort of what that area of the med center looks like.
Dr. Keller's Office
I built Dr. Keller's office as close as I could get it to what I see in my head in the Sims, just to give everyone a good visual of what it looks like. (Ignore the fact I didn't put any wallpaper on the outside lol)

It's not a very big office, this is a little more spread out than when I picture it, mostly just for the sake of making everything fit in the build. We'll also just pretend that there's blinds over the windows on the door, I couldn't find a door I liked that fit the vision well enough without windows.

It's very cozy, very warm. There is an overhead light, but Dr. Keller doesn't use it often. The reader tends to sit in the chair furthest from the door, and I always imagine them turned in a little bit, but that's hard to convey in the sims lol.

There is a window behind those blinds, but of course it's kept covered pretty much all the time for confidentiality reasons.

Lots of plants and decorations. Just trying to make the office as cozy and comfortable as it can be. I always imagine Dr. Keller keeping her computer on the side of her desk closest to the wall, but of course, the Sims won't let you do that without some fiddling, so it's in the middle in the build lol. I also picture her a little cluttered with her things since she works super hard for our omega.
Yeah, I hope you enjoy this lovely little visual (I'd live in this office honestly). It's going to be important in the next part, so I figured this was as good a time as any to build it so everyone can kind of get an idea of the vision in my head when I write scenes in Dr. Keller's office.
