One Step, Not Much but It Said Enough
Pairing: Daryl Dixon x Fem!Reader
Setting: Farm/Prison
Warnings: None
Summary: Someone had to make a move. In the end, it was neither of you.
A/N: First November request. It can be found here.
*gif is not mine
You pushed your glasses up on your nose for the umpteenth time in less than half an hour, cursing yourself for never checking with your optometrist about contact lenses before the world went to shit. Not like you would have known to buy a lifetime supply because the dead were going to rise up and eat the living. Oh well.
You didn’t dislike your spectacles. You actually enjoyed having them. You used to pick out the snazziest frames you could find that meshed well with your personality. Still, having glasses in the apocalypse wasn’t easy, by a long shot.
Especially now, when you were trying to set up the perimeter line and it was a million degrees outside, the sweat accumulating on your skin making your frames slide down. It was actually rather infuriating.
You were tying off a line when a shadow loomed over the string in your hands. “Here.” Before you could look up, a sunhat was placed on your head. You reached up to adjust it before leaning back to meet Daryl’s eyes. “S’one’a Carol’s.” He motioned toward the hat as he crouched on the other side of your line.
“Thanks.” You mumbled, hoping he’d credit the sun for the rosy coloring of your cheeks. You suddenly felt unsure of your work and hesitated to continue while he watched.
“G’on.” He encouraged, chewing on a blade of grass while those blue eyes flitted between you and the string of cans. You took a deep breath and carried on, soon becoming lost in your work as you moved from sector to sector. The hat did help, but eventually, you found the frames teetering on the end of your nose once again.
“Damn glasses!” You didn’t even bother to adjust them, simply sitting back on your heels with a pout. Daryl had followed you, having already done his hunting for the day. You weren’t really sure why he was hanging around. His presence never bothered you but did make you increasingly nervous. The man was attractive and, though he’d fight hard to never admit it, he had a huge heart.
“What ‘bout ‘em?” He looked up from cleaning his bolts, tilting his head when he noticed your adorable pout. He laughed in the form of an exhale through his nose and leaned forward, using his middle finger to push your glasses back to their rightful place. “They suit ya.”
“Yeah.” You agreed, blinking at him with wide eyes. It wasn’t until his brows drew inward and he began to smirk that you realized you had been staring at him for far longer than necessary. There was a noise akin to a squeak when you quickly went back to work and tied off the last of the perimeter. “Done!”
“‘Bout time.” The archer drawled, already standing next to you. “Ya hungry?” He was holding out a hand to help you to your feet but you just couldn’t seem to make your body function. “S’a hand. How it works is ya put yours in mine an’ I pull ya up.” You suddenly deadpanned at his his version of a grin. “C’mon, now. Carl gets there first an’ there’ll be none left for us.”
You took his hand and let him pull you to your feet. “Thanks.” He hummed in reply, falling in step beside you. You walked quietly back to the fire and your friends, about to branch away from him when you felt his hand on your arm.
“Hey, um—” You looked up just in time to see him look back from gazing at something behind you but he kept speaking before you could turn to investigate. “Y’wanna go with me tomorrow? Huntin’, I mean.”
You knew how your face lit up, there was absolutely zero hiding it. You had always wanted to go with him. Honestly, you wanted to go anywhere with him. You felt like a middle schooler with a crush. Embarrassing. Regardless, the fact the he had invited you after spending all afternoon watching you string up cans between trees made your heart beat just a little faster.
“Hell yeah, I’d love to! I mean, as long as I won’t be in your way.”
“Ya won’t be. M’gonna teach ya.”
Your jaw gaped. “Really? You mean it?”
Poor Daryl just looked confused. “Wouldn’a said it if I didn’t.”
You just managed to stop yourself from diving in for a hug. “I’m looking forward to it.” You smiled, tilting your head when you noticed the slight flush on his cheeks. He scratched at the back of his neck and nodded.
“Good. We’ll be leavin’ ‘fore first light so get some sleep.”
You nodded and watched him walk away, apparently forgetting that he didn’t eat. You chuckled to yourself, pushing your glasses up yet again but not at all bothered by it this time. When you turned, you barely caught the knowing smile that Carol wore before it faded and she went back to eating. You removed the hat Daryl had brought you, looking at it with narrowed eyes, then to where Daryl had disappeared, then to Carol, then back to the hat. Suddenly, it all made perfect sense.
Well played, Carol. Well played.

so i just finished the first season of house md and let me say
your attachment to wilson is understandable, that man has the biggest brownest eyes ive ever seen
house on the other hand has the scariest blue eyes known to man pls buy her brown contact lenses
i actually like cameron x house i would potentially like to see more of that she is a very nice contrast to house and i rlly want to see that dynamic explored even though the season 1 finale did make it pretty clear that hes still in love with stacey
speaking of which im looking forward to seeing how her presence in the hospital shakes things up
im very glad they got rid of vogler or whatever his name was i had vivid hallucinations of punching him in the face repeatedly everytime he was on screen
i want to find out what the deal with foreman is. he has matching shows with house. he hates homeless people. he committed a crime at 16. he broke into a patients house to figure out how to comfort her while she died. literally who is this man i need to knowwwww
that brings me to chase. i cant figure him out either, first hes a brown nose to house, then hes snitching on him every chance he gets, he doesnt need to money but he wants his job, he is somehow to coolest person in this show and the lamest, he wears a leather jecket and looks like he belongs in a pantene commerical. hes my favourite
also i want it to be actually brought up that house plays piano? like in the first season there are 4 seperate times he plays piano (tho he only mimes playing it one time so technically only three)
GOD this show i cant believe i didnt watch it sooner
wilson really does have the most wettest biggest brownest eyes i have ever seen and it makes him so scrunkly i need to put him in a bag and bash that bag into a brick wall
and yea houses eyes are fucking terrifying and the worse thing is that someone on a discord server once edited him to have brown eyes and somehow it was scarier
also you are like the first person ive seen express a like for cameron x house so honestly god speed for that but you do bring up some banging fucking points
live laugh love stacey that is really all i have to say to that her and house have such a good juicy relationship
fun fact vogler only exists because fox wanted someone to like oppose house and that so the writers threw him in and in process made chase a dickhead (still bbg tho)
also FOREMAN, god i love him so much like mans presents himself as like 'oh smart doctor, id want this man to be my doctor' but then as the show progresses you just end up looking at him like 'what happened here'. in s3 you do properly start to see how he parallels house and it is scrumptious top tier telly and, like chase, he is a fucking dickhead. and the car thing as well cos like he goes on about how he pulled himself out of that but then you watch and he clings to normalcy and making something of himself its brilliant
and the shit himself chase. i find it so fucking funny how his first name is robert like he does not fucking look like a robert. and his relationship with house like fucking hell, you can tell chase is desperately trying to separate himself from his actual dad and by doing that he clung onto his work and especially house in an attempt to do that.
also 'he wears a leather jacket and looks like he belongs in a pantene commercial. he is my favourite' speaks for itself cause yeag.
unfortunately i don't actually think its bought up that house can play piano later on but you do get to see him play other instruments which is fun cause hugh laurie is a really good musician and im so happy they gave house interests outside of just medicine
happy watching the show is gonna make you go just a bit insane

Unfinished Business: Part 1
Trigger Warnings: Angst, Swearing, Slight mentions of past Abuse, Drugs.
Characters: Thomas Shelby x Reader
+ random character/group I made up (Romboldi & The Black Hats)
Word Count: 3,084 omfg I really did the most but I just kinda ran with it.
Summary: Y/N’s current occupation requires her to encounter Thomas Shelby, a man she thought was in her past for good, but as fate would have it, she has to face him once again, because no one can forget a Shelby.
Requested by: @msbzowy
Summary of request: “...Thomas lost any contact with the reader and one time while on a business deal he meets her because they’re both involved in the business. They would be fighting a lot but eventually something happens between them and the old feelings come back? You can make it sweet or steamy. No specific deal in mind, just like the general idea! Thank you in advance!”
A/N: This was requested as a oneshot but I had so many great ideas for it based off this awesome request, so I figured I’d turn it into a 2 or 3 part fic possibly. Let me know if that’s something you’d want to read. :)
Part 1 | Part 2
Y/n walked down the wooden staircase after receiving a phone call, one hand gliding down the rail, and the other holding her suitcase. Her nerves consuming her as she ran down the hall and out the door of her house in New York. The spring air filling her lungs as she quickly walked to the edge of the street, attempting to hail a cab. As she waved her hand out, she smiled as she saw one stop and handed him some cash for his efforts. She wasn’t much for pointless conversation, especially now. She was on her way to one of the biggest meetings of her career, a career she had found herself in only 2 years prior. It was a job most people wouldn’t want, but it paid well, and since she fled Small Heath, she needed the income and the protection.
Small Heath was a series of bittersweet memories. Seeing her friends at the tailor shops, walking down the dark cobblestone streets, and becoming particularly close to a man named Thomas Shelby. After the war, he got heavily involved in the business, dealing with rival gangs, going after commissioners, committing arson, murder, dealing with bets at the tracks, and breaking hearts most of all. In the matter of heartbreaks, y/n was his first true victim.
As the cab rolled down the city streets, she glanced out the window, remembering all that she left behind.
Tensions in the blinders were running high at the time of her departure from the company, back when they had a business meeting with a rival group, the Black Hats from New York. The blinders wanted to transport weapons and ammo for a cheaper price because of recent financial troubles, but they weren’t having it and the Black Hats declined, but not without blowing up one of Tommy’s supply areas. This smuggling shit was risky business to say the least, as these were being smuggled along with drugs.....snow to be exact. The little blue bottles were like gold, taking away the pain of the day while giving you the energy to go on to the next, sucking you in like a rip-tide at sea until you were consumed by the need for more. She had been all too familiarized with it because Tommy struck a deal with a huge supply of it before she left. He didn’t use it often, but Arthur was a different story.
It came as a shock to her, as she had been dating Tommy for a year before everything came crashing down. She was confronted by him at a family meeting saying that she needed to leave, that she had no place there despite her skills. She was a great shot and was helpful on many occasions, but to have her there would pose a risk they weren’t willing to take after they bombed him. So, in true Tommy fashion, he gave her some money, bought her a boarding pass, and sent her on her way to New York to start a new life, his cold eyes staring as he watched her board the ship, emotionless.
This only fueled her need to get back at him, to show him what he had lost, while also proving to herself that she didn’t need him as much as he needed her. She could make a name for herself, even if that meant working for the enemy.
Pulling up to the brick building, she realized she was now in the belly of the beast, the Black Hats home-turf. She was never seen with the Shelby’s when they visited him in Small Heath, as she was always doing secretary work at Tommy’s place, or perched high on rooftops, aiming at the men below who had came to charlies yard for their meetings. She was always out of sight regarding those men, but now here she was, working for them. She came to them seeking any position, lying about where she came from, supplying them with her forged papers, and even hiding her accent. For as big as this gang was, they weren’t the brightest, as they accepted her in with little apprehension.
She earned a good living for herself though, quickly becoming their main contract killer. She would travel the country and take out the people on their hit list, and in return they’d provide her with housing and a guard that would check in every so often.
As she walked in through the heavy double doors, she nodded to one of the guards who let her through into the leader, Mr. Romboldi’s office. He smiled as she came in, fiddling with his golden ring around his finger.
“Ah there she is...little miss Quick Shot. Nice of you to join us.” He said using her nickname she’d earned among her peers. She could hit a target from various angles and distances without much help and came to like the name she made for herself. Y/n soon nodded and stood at attention like the others, ready for the days orders.
“We have some unfinished business in Small Heath, as I’m sure you’re all aware. It’s been a while since we’ve been overseas, and we’re going to send someone tomorrow to discuss our deal once more as they’ve had recent success in a certain business venture that I’m sure we’d appreciate here.” He said with a serious look in his eyes.
“What venture?” One of the men asked.
“Gin. Buying stocks in it, selling bottles, transporting cross-country, we Americans love our gin and Mr. Shelby has a new supply. He tried to low-ball us last time with the ammo, the guns, and the snow, but I’m going to send him an offer he can’t refuse this time.” He said smirking.
“What offer is that?” Y/n asked, putting on her fake accent.
“You.” He said looking at her. Y/n’s heart sank, as she looked at him and nodded. She never wanted to see him again after he booted her out like she meant nothing to him, even if it was to save-face for him and the company and for her safety.
“You’re going to get him to supply us the gin and get him to pay us full price for our efforts with this am I clear?” He asked.
“Yes sir.” y/n said.
“If you fail, we’ll be meeting again under very different circumstances.” He said, an evil smile playing at his lips.
She’s known him long enough to know that he meant he’d kill her or Tommy, and as much as she hated the man who broke her heart, she still loved him at the same time, and she couldn’t let him or his family die over a silly business deal.
As soon as she was dismissed, she grabbed her suitcase and headed off to the boating docks, buying a ticket and boarding the ship. She knew her boss didn’t care when she left, as long as she got there sometime that week. And besides, she was too anxious to wait around for tomorrow, knowing this was time sensitive.
After the grueling ride aboard the ship, she went into London after going through the necessary checks. She used her alias and made her best impression, and then went on to Small Heath as assigned. When she got out of the car, she smirked as her red heels hit the black soil covered streets. Walking by a shop, she saw a women’s tailor and decided to stop in, buying a well made pant suit. It fit well and was a nice gray color with pinstripe detailing. Looking around further, she decided on a gold pocket watch, and nice hat to match, and then went on her way after buying it all.
Walking down the street, she saw the Garrison, causing all the memories she had with Tommy and the rest of the blinders to start coming back. They were like brothers to her and despite her bitterness, she still loved them, as they were not particularly happy in seeing her go, as that was solely Tommy’s decision.
Y/n shook the thoughts from her head, and waited outside the shop, leaning her back against the coal-black wall. While lighting a cigarette and taking a drag from it, she looked off into the distance seeing a man in a peaked cap riding a dark horse, much different than the white one she saw two years ago. As he pulled up near Shelby Company Ltd. He stopped in his tracks as y/n took another drag of her cigarette, looking at her pocket watch.
“Nice horse Tommy. You’re right on time.” She said relishing in the fact that she could use her normal accent. Her sunglasses and new brimmed hat helped in disguising her face.
“Thank you miss....Who are you?” He asked his eyes burning a hole through her shaded lenses. She smirked and took them and the hat off, revealing her face.
“Y/n...” He said, his eyes growing wide. He immediately took her inside and to his office, shutting the door behind him.
“What on earth are ya fucking doing here?” He asked.
“That’s not a nice greeting for someone you haven’t seen in two years Tom. But given what happened I didn’t expect anything nice from you anyways. I’m here on business.” She said, walking past him to put her cigarette out. He watched as she walked towards him, her arms folded over her well-fitting suit, standing in front of him.
“What business is that?” He asked.
“Oh you know, just a little...mafia business back in New York. Nothing too big... except that you’ve pissed off my boss. And now I’m sent here to try to make a deal.” She said making herself at home in one of his leather armchairs. He raised an eyebrow and sat on the edge of his desk near her.
“What deal? Who are you working for y/n?” He asked.
“The Black Hats. Mr Romboldi to be exact...ring a bell yet? The son of a bitch who took me in after you booted me out without a goodbye? Yeah, him. He still remembers your little low-ball offer for the guns, the ammo, and-” She chuckled as she remembered the drugs. “-the fucking snow.” She said giving him daggers.
He looked down, y/n could see the gears turning in his head.
“I told you to leave and not go anywhere near them y/n. Why the hell are ya working for em aye?” He asked angrily.
“You and I both know I couldn’t just sit around twiddling my thumbs and making pies for someone I never loved all day. I wasn’t going to be some house wife to some old bastard while I could’ve been out shooting and working a meaningful job. I wasn’t going to let myself rot.” She said, her own voice raising.
“You didn’t have to choose this life though. You could’ve left this behind like I wanted you to.” He said lighting a cigarette.
Y/n chuckled. “I remember what you told me one time, when I first started getting involved in Peaky business. You said and I quote, ‘you can change what you do, but you can’t change what you want.’ And you know what Tommy? I wanted this life, I wanted you, I wanted to make a name for myself, I wanted the thrill of this job because I often feel nothing. But I’ve only gotten half of that.” She said getting up, pacing around the room as he watched.
“What did you not get y/n?” He asked too focused on the mafia issue at hand to realize she mentioned him.
“You, you fucking idiot! But you threw me out, no goodbyes, no letters, nothing.” She said, her eyes filling up with tears.
“Y/n...that was two years ago. I was trying to protect you.” He said noticing the tears running down her face.
“I had a job. I had a life here. I’m not expecting you to ever want me back but god damn it I’d like an apology. Hell, you didn’t protect me from shit.” She said, thinking about some of the things she had to do to get through to some people for her boss. She shuddered at the thought.
He looked hurt, seeing her like that, and despite it being two years since that day, he still loved her all the same, he was just terrible at showing it. He never thought he’d see her again, and in that moment he decided he wasn’t going to let her go again.
She wiped her eyes as she felt him walk up behind her, she tensed up, not knowing what would happen next. He put his hand on her shoulder lightly, and she turned around to face him, her eyes still bright and hopeful after all that had happened. He loved her, and after she left, he mentally beat himself up over it every day. He turned to snow for a while, along with his opium, but what he truly needed was y/n. Fearing she may be too angry to every take him back, he hesitated as he brushed the tears from her cheek and kissed her.
Instead of slapping him or walking out, she deepened the kiss, which surprised Tommy, as he pulled her as close has he could, not wanting to let her go. When they parted, lightly gasping for air, he smiled slightly and so did she.
“I-I shouldn’t have done that. I’m sorry y/n.” He said stepping back from her.
She looked at him as she processed what happened, she never expected to fall right back into his arms after all she went through, but here she was, being sucked in by his ocean blue eyes once again.
She straightened her blazer out and pushed a stray hair out of her face.
“Why did you kiss me Thomas?” Y/n asked taking another cigarette out of her pocket and lighting it.
Thomas thought for a moment, trying to pick his words less recklessly this time around.
“When I forced you out, I stayed up every night beating myself up. I’ll never get those nights back, but those nights made me realize something y/n.” He said.
“If you’re going to break my heart again just say it already.” She said tapping her heel impatiently.
“I love you...y/n.” He said looking at her, studying her as she moved anxiously. He loved the way she looked, the way she carried herself, the way she wasn’t afraid to call him out. But he was terrified for the first time in his life that the woman he loved wouldn't return those very words back to him.
She looked down, exhaling a cloud of smoke. “I came here not only because of an order Tom...but because deep down despite my hate for what you did, I knew why you did it. And even though two fucking years have passed, I still haven’t been able to get you out of my head. So, I guess what the fuck I’m trying to say is that I love you too, you bastard.” She said looking up at him a light smile playing at her lips.
He smiled and walked over to her and took her hand in his, kissing it lightly.
“I promise to never do something so foolish again y/n. I swear on me fucking life...so am I forgiven?” He asked.
She took his words into consideration and nodded, bringing his lips to hers. Breaking away, she walked around the room slowly, remembering all of their fun times in here after-hours.
“So, about Mr. Romboldi, y/n how serious is this?” He asked.
“Well, he said that you’ll have to pay them full price for their services. He wants your gin. He sent me to persuade you to pay him for distribution and sales in the states......and It’s not easy Tommy, smuggling things.... especially alcohol back to the states........I hate him and his men believe me, but they risk their lives getting that kind of stuff so I think you should consider paying a full price.” She said.
“And if I don’t?” He asked.
Y/n sighed. “I was also sent here because he knew you couldn’t refuse an offer if it came from a pretty woman. Now, he may have been right on that part, but he doesn’t know that I’ve been working under an alias for him, and he doesn’t know I know you. They think my name is Y/N Anderson, from Virginia. And so if you don’t take this offer, they’re going to find out, and then Mr. Romboldi and his men are gonna waltz in here and kill you, me, and everyone you care about because they’ve already been wronged once, and they don’t like being wronged a second time.” She said sternly, taking another drag from her cigarette.
He sighed and ran his hands over his head, his face growing angry.
“What is it Tommy?” Y/n asked, noticing his behavior.
“After all this time, I thought maybe I’d be done for a moment y/n. With this whole empire of a business. But I think that moment will never come...before I stupidly forced you away, I had everything. I had this going great, and at night I could sleep. But now, when I do sleep, I dream. And in my dream, someone wants my crown.” He said with a sad look to his eyes. Y/n came over to him and hugged him gently, feeling him relax at her touch.
“Well, I’m here now. And the only way you’re going to get a break and get to keep your crown is if you help me fucking take care of this Thomas.” She said.
He sighed and took a moment to think.
“Alright...in that case...you’re going to call him from a payphone tomorrow. You’re going to say I accept his offer now that we have the fucking funds to do so, and you’re going to tell him we can meet in a weeks time. We’ll meet in charlies yard again.” He said.
“So we have a deal then?” She asked grinning, still embracing him.
“We have a deal.” He said.
“So now that I’m here...where shall I stay?” She asked.
“Well, first I’m going to re-introduce you to the family which I’m sure they’ll love. Then, I’ll be taking you to my place.” He said.
“And why is that?” She asked a mischievous smile playing at her lips.
Because we have some unfinished business.” He said, before pecking her lips and ushering y/n out the door and into the family meeting room.

The Berlin Affair (as narrated by Nikolai Lanstov)
A/N: This has been so fun to write and this is probably my fave part on TMFU au. ;-; BLESS U FOR THIS AU
Do read the companion piece of this in Zoya’s perspective written by @wafflesandkruge. It’s perfect. 👀 👀
Word Count: 3283
Nikolai was one step ahead of them.
He was on the balcony of a restaurant the opposite side of the street, looking through his binoculars and through the windows of a well-known cafe. It was easy to spot his contact—or his alleged contact. She stood out among the rest of the people in the shop, the long waves of raven hair were hard to miss, and the way her dark eyes roamed the room didn’t go unnoticed by him. At least she looked like a civilian hiding among the crowd.
But Nikolai knew otherwise.
Their informant had told them in the last minute that the Russians knew about the handoff between the CIA contact and him. The documents contained the names of Russian moles in the American government, and if it were really true, the chaos would be unimaginable. The KGB had sent someone to pose as his contact, and Nikolai sent a silent prayer of respect to whatever fate his actual contact had gotten.
Apparently the bad news didn’t stop there. The Russians also knew about Nikolai, his past, reputation, and identity. Basically what they needed to catch him. But a good informant was all it took to be one step ahead. Perhaps he should treat Brekker a drink after he got out of this damned mission.
The raven-haired woman checked her watch, her fingers tapping impatiently on the table. The geek side in him tried to think that she was secretly tapping out a message in Morse code, but he knew he was being ridiculous. His triumph over outsmarting the KGB was bringing too much amusement to him.
With one final look over the woman, Nikolai turned to leave. It would be tricky to find the actual documents without the contact now. But he would find a way.
There was no ‘impossible’. Only improbable.
That night he sent a transmission to the contact, asking for a reschedule for the drop off due to a ‘nefarious interference’. He’d had a good laugh over it, as he wasn’t planning to show up to the rescheduled date. The KGB could go wait for another whole day and waste their time trying to plan how to ambush him or just give up trying to corner him. Either way, he didn’t care.
For now, he had some searching to do.
***
The information came on the day of the third attempt of the dropoff. Nikolai was following some leads he was able to connect to the actual CIA contact when his pager gave a resounding tone.
“The woman who posed as your contact has the documents hidden somewhere in her place. One of my spies had followed her back to her place and overheard her arguing about it on the phone.”
There were no other messages aside from that, and Nikolai grit his teeth in frustration. He had no plans to make an appearance over the same crowded cafe where he had been leading the contact on. The odds had definitely shifted his way, but now he had to make actual contact with the woman.
Perhaps he could have at least a bit of fun trying to charm the stern-faced woman.
“All right,” he muttered to himself as he left his current location. “Let’s see if your charm has limits, Lanstov.”
Evening came, and at the same time it was the time of the dropoff. Nikolai made sure to go an hour later than the set time as he assumed that by now, the woman would have had much less patience waiting on nothing for the last three meetups.
He arrived at the corner of the street the cafe was in, risking a glance to the cafe’s interior. To his relief, the raven-haired woman was still there on the same table he had seen her during the first dropoff. She still looked regal as ever, and for some reason, Nikolai felt drawn to her dark, observing eyes.
No, he scolded himself. You’re here to get the documents, not to get distracted by her.
Nikolai adjusted the glasses on his nose, careful not to dishivel his dark-colored hair. The shoe polish felt sticky and wet on his hair, but he braved through it. It was the only thing that would hide his true identity besides the lenses that made his eye color muddy green.
There was movement at the corner of his eye, and he turned to look just in time to see the woman emerge from the cafe’s front door. For a moment, their eyes met, and Nikolai swore he had never seen another woman that gorgeous.
He sucked in a breath as if he had been punched in the gut. Her eyes were stormy blue.
Focus, you idiot.
Automatically, a smile appeared on his face, the act already beginning. And yet, he couldn’t stop staring at her.
“Good evening,” Nikolai said, mustering all the suave he had in him. If he was going to act around her, he might as well give it his best. “What’s a beautiful woman like you doing here alone?”
He had expected her to ignore him and walk away, and he’d have to think of another plan to approach her. But much to his surprise, the raven-haired woman said, “My supposed date stood me up.” She shook her head. “For the third time.”
Nikolai bit back his tongue to keep himself from laughing. It’s going to be fun, indeed. “Oh? Only a fool wouldn’t show up to meet a gorgeous woman like you,” he said. He bowed his head a little, regarding her with respect. “May I be the one to make up for his loss tonight? I would like to buy you a drink.”
The woman eyed him for a moment, and Nikolai wondered why he was feeling nervous all of a sudden. Had he been drinking too much coffee for the past several days? “Alright, then,” the woman said, tiredness obvious in her voice. “Take me away, stranger.”
***
Nikolai didn’t expect to get to her apartment that quickly.
They had talked for hours about the random things they could think of, with him trying to jab a few compliments to his reply when he saw the chance, and she would just brush it off with an eye roll or a shake of her head.
But when Zoey—or so what she had told him her name was after a couple of drinks and to which he introduced himself as Napoleon—ended up drinking one too many shots, she drunkenly told him to take her back to her place.
He obliged, of course. To have the chance to search her place, he reminded himself. And also out of respect. Nikolai wasn’t one to leave a woman in her drunken state in public.
That was how he ended up guiding Zoey to her door, with her fumbling for the key to open the lock. When she finally opened the door after several tries, Nikolai stood awkwardly over the door frame, seemingly nervous about the sudden turn of events.
Zoey stumbled through the door, and then turned to look at him expectantly. He blinked, staring right back at her. The guarded aspect in her blue eyes was gone and replaced by an obvious desire. Nikolai felt his throat become dry.
With a roll of her eyes, the raven-haired woman grabbed him by the lapels of his coat and pulled him inside, clumsily closing the door behind him. And then her hands were roaming over his shoulders and down his chest as she tried to shove the coat off his shoulders.
Nikolai let out a nervous laugh, reaching a hand up to stop her ministrations. “Alright, let’s take it slow, my dear,” he murmured. The feel of her hand in his felt just right. “Let’s get you to bed.”
“No,” she slurred, trying to pry her hands away from him. “Distract me.”
She sounded desperate and strained, and he knew that it was because of her mission that kept being delayed by his doing. But Nikolai held firm. He refused to take advantage of her state. “Hush now. You’re drunk.” Then he scooped her up in his arms and carried her to the bedroom, tucking her in the bed carefully.
Zoey had already fallen asleep in the short span of the walk from her door to the bedroom. She looked peaceful in her sleep, the furrowed eyebrows and the full frown completely gone. A stray hair was on her cheek, and Nikolai’s hand twitched at his side as he fought the urge to brush it away.
He still did it anyway. “I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” he said, though he knew he should be finishing the mission tonight while he’s already in her apartment and she was fast asleep.
Zoey grumbled back something in Russian, and turned to her side. Nikolai chuckled softly. She could be the death of him, he realized, and he could only hope it wouldn’t be too literal.
He searched her apartment for a bit, careful not to misplace anything, and he spotted a safe under the bed. A laugh escaped him. Bingo.
The safe had a wheel combination lock, and Nikolai eyed it a bit longer before a knock on the front door startled him out of his spelunking. He’d figure out how to get it later.
He figured he could prolong their tryst for a few more days. It wouldn’t be that much of a problem. Hopefully.
***
Their ‘meetups’ continued for the next week. Mostly it was Nikolai trying to follow Zoey to the places she’d go in hopes to continue to track down ‘Nikolai Lanstov’. That’s why it was always fun and amusing seeing her surprised expression whenever he happened to be around after she gave up in tracking her ‘leads’.
Nikolai had always asked her out for a drink at the pub, and more times than not, she accepted his invitation. Though she never got that drunk after the first night they actually met.
There was even a time when he had invited her to a strange play with tickets that he had managed to snag from the seller. Zoey hadn’t enjoyed a minute of it, and it was quite amusing to see her furrowed brows and deadpan expression all throughout the night as he kept stealing glances on her way.
He had driven her back to her place and when he looked at her, Nikolai was sure he could have seen an expectant look in her eyes. His heart did a weird flip, but he only brushed it off with a laugh and leaned forward to kiss her cheek. He hadn’t planned to do it—it was as if his body acted on its own and he was left questioning his reasons for prolonging this tryst.
He knew he should have finished the mission after a few days; feeling around for the combination to the safe would be a child’s play for him, but somehow Nikolai couldn’t stop their nightly rendezvous. His infatuation for her was slowly growing into something more.
Maybe that was why when a message came to his pager on a particular night in a pub while they were drinking did Nikolai decide that he would finally get the mission done.
He had excused himself in the restroom to read it, and was floored by the lone message.
“The woman that KGB sent was Zoya Nazyalensky. They’ve called off the operation. This is your chance. Get out now if you want to live.”
Nikolai reared back in shock. No wonder her name sounded so familiar. The KGB had sent their deadliest and most cunning agent to stop him. And he had been confident of himself to prolong their dalliance.
Shit.
He thought back of the times Zoey—or Zoya—had agreed to his offer. Had she really been interested in him? Or had she just needed something to distract her for her frustrations over a dead end? Or worse, did she know who he was and this was all an elaborate trap?
Nikolai stopped himself. It wasn’t the right time to think about those things. The mission was still ongoing, and he wasn’t going to back down from it just because the KGB had sent their gorgeous yet deadly agent for him.
He put the pager back in his coat. This would be done tonight.
He returned to their spot by the bar, trying his best not to show the strained expression on his face. Zoya was still on her seat, lazily swirling the drink in her hand. Her eyes lit up a little when she met his gaze.
“Leaving?” she asked.
Nikolai forced a smile to his face, but it felt more like a grimace. “Far from that.”
***
They ended up in her apartment again. But this time, neither of them were intoxicated.
The door wasn’t even completely closed when Zoya yanked at his tie and crashed her lips to his. Nikolai had expected her eagerness, her release of frustration because of a failed mission.
But he didn’t anticipate his own.
Nikolai responded almost immediately, pushing her against the back of the door after he kicked it close. His hand came to the back of her neck, and he kissed her harder as he felt her hands working on the buttons of his coat. He felt on fire under her touch. He helped her take the garment off of his shoulders, only pausing for a second to breathe before they were onto each other again.
He could still taste the vodka on her tongue, and if she had been a drink Nikolai was sure he would be intoxicated the moment he got a taste of her.
The sudden feel of her hands reaching up to his hair was the one that brought him back from his stupor. His mind started thinking straight again.
The hair color would come off. She would discover his true identity.
You still have a mission, Lantsov.
It was those alarming thoughts that made him pull away, albeit reluctantly, a light laugh coming from his lips. He started to think of excuses to get to the bedroom. “Let me freshen up first, okay?”
Zoya’s eyes were dark with want as she looked back up at him, and for a moment, all he wanted was to kiss her senseless again. But his duties were pushing back hard to his mind. She stepped away reluctantly. “Alright,” she said, almost breathless.
Nikolai took the chance to slip to the bedroom while she was still rooted by the door. He could hear clatters and thuds as she straightened something out. How fortunate for him that she was distracted. His fingers were shaking as he felt around for the combination of the safe, carelessly spinning around the wheel.
The memory of her against him was enough to distract him from unlocking the safe, and he cursed his stupidity for letting it overcome him. He shouldn’t have prolonged this affair for a week; he should have just gotten around and unlocked the safe that night when she was drunk and went his own way. But instead he almost let her crawl her way to his heart because of his foolishness, and he nearly lost sight of what he needed to do.
So much for being the heartbreaker and womanizer. It came back to slap him in the face. You break hearts, Lantsov, not give your own away.
A click finally resounded after several tries, and the safe opened. Nikolai quickly grabbed the manila envelope and searched for a way out. No time for distractions. He got what he needed.
The window was his only option, and he hoped he didn’t have to jump off the ledge that might ruin his suit. He paused by the pane, turning back to the nightstand. Perhaps he could get himself a token to remind him of KGB's deadliest agent.
After getting some souvenirs from her drawer, Nikolai went out through the bedroom window. Thankfully, there was a metal staircase leading to the ground floor and Nikolai bolted for his car parked by the curb.
He thought he had lost her back in the apartment complex. But as he looked over his rearview mirror, he saw another car gaining up on him. At the driver’s seat was his raven-haired almost-lover. And she looked murderous.
Despite the danger and probable death he was in, Nikolai let out a laugh. Oh, how he had gotten in this situation. He supposed he was still fond of her, even if she wanted to kill him.
A shot rang out, and there was a loud sound of bursting tires. Now would be the perfect time to panic.
“Come on, love. Let me go this once,” Nikolai muttered as he tried to keep on driving despite the busted back tire. He was almost near the checkpoint.
Another shot rang out, and the other back tire exploded. Nikolai cursed under his breath. The woman was deadly, indeed. Without having much of a choice, he ditched the car and settled for running instead. The guardhouse by the checkpoint was at least half a kilometer away.
Nikolai risked a glance back, and wished he didn’t. Zoya had also gotten out of the car and was calmly following him, like she had all the time in the world. He finally reached the checkpoint and was immediately stopped by two guards.
“Look, man, I’m American, okay? I know I missed the curfew by an hour but look, I have an American passport,” Nikolai knew he was babbling, but with Zoya Nazyalensky at his tail? It was only normal to talk quickly. “And my crazy ex-girlfriend is out to kill me. Let me pass?”
To his surprise, the guards chuckled. “Damn, that’s rough, buddy.” One of them patted him on the shoulder, and they only took a glance at his passport before they were waving him through.
The moment Nikolai was beyond the barricades, he let out a relieved sigh. He got to live for another day.
“KGB. Let me through.”
Nikolai whirled around to see Zoya’s disheveled yet still deadly presence by the guardhouse, and she was staring right at him even as she spoke to the guards. He leaned over the bridge railing, watching as the guards stopped her from pushing through the barricades.
“Identification, please,” one of the guards said.
He watched in amusement as Zoya tapped around her dress in search of her identification card. Nikolai let out a laugh, and it caught the raven-haired woman’s attention. She looked up just as he produced a card from his vest pocket and waved it in the air.
A shadow crossed her face, and he was sure she was thinking of all the ways to murder him. He’d definitely miss her glare. Particularly her. It wasn’t often that he got to meet someone as cunning and beautiful as Zoya Nazyalensky. He could only hope that she’d remember him.
Just then, his mind suddenly came up with an idea.
Something to remember me by. With another smile, Nikolai teasingly hovered his hand holding her ID card over the railing. He saw Zoya’s eyes widen, her lips moving as if to say something spiteful at him, and it only gave him more reason to go through with his idea.
He flicked the card into the river.
If it was possible for her to look much more murderous, he was sure that her current demeanor would pass as one. He could practically hear her thoughts about wanting to murder him, but Nikolai only gave her a wink, a silent promise to meet her again, before he turned and went on his way.
Until next time, love.

Also, this chapter is PG, so that’s good! Have fun reading everyone! xx Virge

Patton squeaked and stood up straighter. For some reason, this person gave off a cold and aloof aura. Much different from the warmth and passion that radiated from Roman.
“You— You must be the second of Virgil’s husbands?”
“Spouses,” the second ghost immediately corrected. His lips curled into a slight scowl. It was pretty intimidating to say the least, especially with how tall he seemed to be. “While I do not completely mind being considered his…’husband,’ I would prefer to be called his spouse. Also my pronouns call be he/him, but I would prefer xe/xyr.”
“O-Oh!” Patton blushed, feeling bad he accidentally misgendered another person. “I’m so sorry! I-I didn’t mean—”
“Since this is our first encounter and it was merely an accident, I’ll let it slide.” xe told the confectioner while marching toward him, maintaining a good distance. “However, should we encounter each other again multiple times after this, and you still continue to misuse my pronouns, I can guarantee I will not be so friendly.”
Patton gulped. “Got it.”
Xe held out a hand for him. “Logan Oxford. Esteemed novelist and self-admitted astrophile.”
The confectioner didn’t know what half of those words meant. “U-Uhm,” he shakes Logan’s hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mx. Oxford.”
“Logan, please. No need for formalities.”
He nodded. Now that he thinks about it, Patton has heard the name Logan Oxford before. His cousin Emile brought xem up a couple of times when he talked about therapy (while still keeping patient confidentiality, obviously). He mentioned how xyr essays were really good, but they seemed a little too…stuffy, for his personal tastes (like most scientists/doctors/philosophers/etc).
Now meeting xem for the first time, he can understand why Emile said that.
While Roman had on very bold, fancy colors: reds and whites and golds, Logan was a stark contrast to that. Similar to his own palette but not quite. Xe had on a dark blue dress coat with a white button-up underneath it, along with black suit pants and dark brown dress shoes. A little bit of gold was on his buttons and cuff links, but other than that, the colors xe wore were predominantly dark.
Come to think of it, there were a lot of differences between he and Logan. The novelist had dark eyes while he had baby blue. Logan had straight, gelled black hair while he had strawberry blonde curls. A medium build with a good amount of muscle as opposed to a soft curvy build with a bit of chub. A sharp face as opposed to a rounded one. Square glasses as opposed to rounded lenses.
Regardless, xe were a very clean-looking individual. Perhaps even handsome in xyr own right, much like Virgil was.
“I suppose you’re wanting to warn me about Virgil too?” he asks.
“Is that not why you’re here?” Logan responds. “Or were you just wanting to put your nose into the affairs of a relatively wealthy man?”
Patton pouted. He didn’t have to be rude about it!
“But yes,” the novelist says immediately after. “I am here to also warn you about the dangers of Mr. Virgil Nyx of 613 Rue Morgue.”
“Well take your time. I’m not here to rush you.”
“I appreciate your concerns, but my past before Mr. Nyx is easy to discuss,” Logan tells him.
The confectioner nods, listening to him attentively.
“Growing up as a child, my father was a firm believer of knowledge,” Xe began. “He always believed that it was an incomparably valuable, multipurpose tool, instrumental in identifying and solving any of the world’s problems.” Dark blue eyes casted themselves over to the books. “One of the things he used to tell me was, “If you are ever worried about getting hurt, then seek knowledge. It is our greatest weapon, and our greatest defense.” And so, with that, my ever-growing thirst began.”
Xe went on, “I scoured for any form of knowledge, be that books or even educative television, wherever I could find it, I absorbed it entirely. I read every book from both my father and Ye Ye, every book from the libraries— primary school, the public one, university— etcetera. All of it was not enough for me. I eventually received my Master’s in Philosophy and a Doctorate in Physics, wishing to expand my love of all things intellect and share it with the world.” He turns back to Patton. “Before my graduation, I had published a few theses that were eventually used at other prestigious universities; and afterward, I had written a book or two, which resulted in my rise to celebrity.”
Patton nodded. Then he asked, “Had you known about Virgil before you met him?”
“I was aware of him, yes.” the novelist’s lips thinned into a firm line. “I had heard about the…supposed suicide of Roman Scarlet, famed Broadway actor and beloved performer of the Storytime lounge. I had also heard of his brother’s desire to take Virgil to court without any proof of murderous intent, I believe he was even in contact with a lawyer despite this.”
The confectioner looked at xem in surprise. “Even when he didn’t have evidence, his brother had contact with a lawyer about wanting to see if Virgil could be charged with murder?”
“Indeed.” Logan nodded. “At first, I read it off as some silly story for revenge, not exactly understanding how that was actually the truth.”
Patton nodded. “So…Did you meet him at a book signing or…?”
Logan didn’t say anything of the longest time. When xe did, it was very vague-sounding. “When I met Virgil…well, let’s just say it was…a strange sense of irony.”
…
If he could, Virgil would have openly spat about how much he did not want to be here. When he became as wealthy as he is, he swore up and down that he would never return to this place, return to the old life he lived before he knew what it was like to have money.
And yet, here he was, walking into a familiar-looking bookstore. The name re-entering his mind like he hadn’t shoved it out oh so many years ago.
Catching his eye was the small clump of beings standing outside its old, paint-chipped door; maybe the line won’t be as long as he thought. However, he quickly (and unfortunately) realized that the clump of people outside stood at the end of a line that snaked through the entire store.
Everyone and their mother apparently wanted to meet Logan Oxford today of all days.
He should’ve expected this, and yet, he didn’t. Idiot.
Actual anxiety slowly began to seize his being as he continued to approach. Everyone seemed to have a book clutched in their hands. Most were the newest release that came just before the holidays, while some seemed to be personally chosen titles by the older audience, and then there were even books of essays that were held and gossiped about by students (or who Virgil assumed to be university students).
By the time the line actually started moving, Virgil felt sweat starting to coat his palms. He let out a noise of annoyance and shoved them into his pockets.
He was not going to let his stupid anxiety ruin this chance for him. He wasn’t!
Walking in, the little jingle of the bell above sounded like the heavy dong of a church one.
Virgil forced himself to look around. This cozy little hellhole remained the same even after almost a decade. (He even forced himself to wonder if the old owner was still here. Probably not. Maybe retired. Or dead.)
The lighting was still bad, but it gave the small interior of the store its warm glow; the carpeting was still old fashioned and had that untraceable smell to it; the chairs scattered about the store were all patchy and worn-down; the wooden tables had scratch marks and random-ass messages that people carved in with pencil; and there were still crazy knickknacks and antiques hanging from the walls or seen from the shelves.
For the widower, this place was a walk-in nightmare, like walking into someone’s grandmother’s house. But for the many customers who come and go daily, it was a little spot of comfort.
Silver-grey eyes eventually found the prize he was looking for.
Logan Oxford sat at a small table with a pen in xyr hand. The writer smiled very thinly up at an admirer as xe handed back their book from across the table.
A thousand little details flooded Virgil’s mind all at once. A full mouth that could be expressive if it wasn’t so clearly behind a reserved wall. A face that was as sharp as Roman’s but it was much more angular. Rich, dark eyes that almost seemed black: dark and mysterious, they looked like they were pulled from the night sky. Slicked back hair that would still be considered neat without all that damn hair gel.
Xe were more than attractive than the widower realized. Perfect for being his next target.
Just before it was his turn, he saw a stand full of Logan’s books, all new and old alike. Making sure no one was looking, he snagged a copy before making his way towards the novelist.
The novelist took the book without even saying anything, not even so much as a polite hello. Xe flipped it open to the first page and started to scribble on the first page with blue ink.
Virgil looked down at the book he grabbed and an idea sparked in his mind. He cleared his throat, but not loud enough to cause a scene. “Mx. Oxford?” he pretended to sound eager. “I know you’ve probably heard this before, but your philosophy essays are so fascinating.”
“You are correct, I have heard it before.” xe said. Dark eyes flashed up at him, a brow quirked and his expression monotone. “Do you have a particular question you’d like to ask me?”
He nodded. “Actually, I do…Do you believe that your field of study has been hindered by the teachings of Aristotle, or are you one of those science-y people who just nod and continuously say he’s right without any substantial proof?”
At that, Logan’s head shot up. “…beg pardon?” Xe were a little stunned by the question being asked of him.
“Do you agree with Aristotle’s teachings, yes or no?” Virgil asked again, a tiny bit amused as he made the novelist react in such a way.
Xe cleared xyr throat, trying to regain some composure. “W-Well,” he stammered. “In the case of Aristotle…the man was usually wrong. A lot. Most of his descriptions of the natural world are some variety of incorrect,” xe tell him. “Looking past his blatant sexism, his understanding of motion and forces is wrong, is astronomy is wrong, a good portion of his biology is busted, and science has in fact suffered for it. For almost 2,000 years to be specific.”
The widower hummed. (Truth be told, he hated philosophy. It was basically a bunch of old guys trying to preach certain ethics and ideologies that would eventually become outdated and criticized.) Nevertheless, he wanted to know what Logan thought about it.
“However,” Logan continued, a glimmer of something sparkling in his eyes. “It wasn’t until the 1800s when the atom was officially declared A Thing, that people began to believe his contemporary, Democritus, as opposed to himself.” Xe snort. “Not to mention, according to Cicero, his prose was apparently a flowing river of gold…when it actually was not. And it was because of him that we not only lost science but also a catastrophic amount of classical literature.”
“So in actuality, his works are basically glorified lecture-notes from his students?” Virgil smirks faintly. “I guess you know now why we should’ve listened to Gorgias instead.”
“Gorgias?” Xe ask, looking at him incredulously. “The man was, excuse my Greek, a pathological pain the ass. He didn’t care for objective truth and stated that everything was a matter of opinion, which was always bendable.”
“Exactly!” Virgil smirks more. “Everything is a construct, therefore we tried and failed. So now all we need to do is to hide under the covers until the sun goes away.” With that, the widower takes his autographed book and begins to leave the store.
“Falsehood!” A screech came from behind him, making him jump. He turns around to see the novelist get up and stride over to him, a sharp look in his eyes. The widower immediately stood straighter. Damn…that glare reminds him of a certain someone that he does not wish to remember right now. “Just because Gorgias was able to obliterate Stephanos of Thebes with straw-man arguments and casual fallacies, does not mean you can, Diogenes the Cynic.”
Virgil blinked. “…Diogenes the Cynic?” he echoed.
“Yes,” Logan says. “A philosopher who believed that all Sophists were liars, the Philosophers were too pretentious, therefore taking immense pleasure in poking fun at their logic.”
The widower pondered thoughtfully. “…yep. That sounds like us just now.” A glint of wicked humor shone in his eyes as Logan just looked done with him. “But in all seriousness, Mx. Oxford. You have to realize that philosophy can be a bit asinine, right?”
Logan stayed silent for a moment before breathing out. “I suppose so,” xe states. “All of the big, complex ideas simply come from those who are fallible and prone to…ridiculousness. For every Plato’s Republic, there is a Diogenes urinating at a banquet table.”
“There you go,” Virgil laughs. “I hope you really didn’t get offended by what I said. I like presenting counterarguments just to see how people react.”
“No harm done. Although I must admit, while I don’t particularly enjoy socializing with others all that much,” Hard same. “I would like to talk to you more. Maybe about science-based media— or whatever it is you’re a fan of?”
Virgil nodded, smirking internally. “I don’t mind at all. In fact, I would like to challenge your claims on what you call cognitive distortions. As someone who has generalized anxiety, I wanna know what your psychology thinks about my over-reactionary mind.”
Logan hummed in interest. “Oh? I look forward to it then, Mr…?”
“Nyx. Virgil Nyx.”
“Mr. Nyx.” Named after the Roman Goddess of the Night, the novelist mused. Xe liked it. Xe scribbled something onto the back of a bookmark, handing it to Virgil. “Again, thank you very much for coming and I hope to communicate with you again soon.”
“See ya.”
With a finger salute, Virgil left the bookstore with a sigh of relief. He was quite glad that his anxiety didn’t make him look the a fool and that he was out of that atrocious place. He opened the book and saw the fancy penmanship of the novelist.
On the bookmark, was his phone number.
He smirked. Maybe he did succeed after all…
…
Patton listed as Logan finished telling him about xyr first meeting with Virgil. He had to admit, it was rather nice to not listen to any…graphic details about things he didn’t want to know, even if Roman told him in a vague manner.
“So how did you stay close with Virgil?” he asked, remembering the questions he presented Roman. “You gave him your number; did you call each other on the phone? Or did you both kept meeting at the bookstore.”
Logan shook xyrs head. “No. However, I would invite him out for some coffee if I was in the area. And every time we did so, we would always have little discussions that would turn into…not-so-little discussions after a period of time…”
Patton raised an eyebrow, smiling knowingly.
The novelist scowled. “We did not argue, if that is what you’re thinking! We…debated, that’s much more civil.” The confectioner giggled but allowed him to continue. “And, while I’m not a traditionally…emotional person…it was quite nice to have someone debate on certain subjects with me, even if they tended to hiss at me from time to time.”
Despite this slowly becoming a sad tale, Patton giggled again. He won’t lie, Virgil did act like a cat every once in a while. It was actually kinda cute (you know…despite the fact he murdered three people…).
“I would also take him to any conferences or panels that I would be invited to attend or speak at,” xe told him. “He would act as my plus one, if you will. I must admit, even if I could manage them on my own, it was…almost beneficial for me to have him around during those events.” Xe chuckled. “I say this despite the fact that he detested such things, as they tended to prompt his anxiety and cause him to rudely hiss whenever someone— and I quote— “reached his limits with stupid questions.” Not only that, he was not primarily invested in the actual subjects of said discussions and was more interested in the catering they served.”
That caused Patton to actually laugh. That also seems like something that Virgil would do, though he doesn’t blame him at all. In fact, if he were in his shoes, he would be a bit more curious in the food too.
Logan couldn’t help xyr lips from twitching upwards. “I shall confess, there were times where I myself have agreed with his sentiments.”
Unfortunately, the smiles and laughter had to end at some point.
“But what happened afterward?” Patton eventually asked. “What caused everything to go downhill?”
The little twitch of a smile instantly when back to a frown. The confectioner sees xem turn to grab a book that was suddenly on the table (when did that get there anyhow?). It was a very beautiful looking book: dark indigo in color with a title that he couldn’t quite make out, but he could see Logan’s name at the very top. Xe opened the book, flipping it to the very last pages before handing it to Patton.
‘ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS’ Baby blue eyes skimmed through the short paragraphs of text. Logan gave simple but kind words as xe thanked the people who helped xem achieve such a feat, such as his parents and former professors.
Then he followed to where the novelist had pointed a finger at.
“Lastly, I would like to give acknowledgments to my husband, Virgil Nyx.
While we have not known each other long, and have newly become married, but having your support throughout this journey was momentous for someone like me to complete this project. Your harsh and honest (almost too honest) criticisms of my work were what kept me going to make and achieve better than my means. And while I am not an emotional person, nor do I express my emotions often, I quiet enjoyed having your company while I wrote and rewrote my rough and final drafts… And I must thank you for bring me my favorite green teas and jellied biscuits whenever I hadn’t eaten or drank anything for hours on end.
This is the most I have genuinely praised someone so highly (and also a first), but it cannot be helped. I truly hope you see the appreciation and respect I fester for you.”
Patton couldn’t help but tear up. To Logan, they may appear simple, but they were also so beautiful.
“As you’ve read, by the time I had written my last book, Virgil had become my spouse.” Logan says. “We were married in a simple ceremony. Something that was vastly different from Roman’s grandiose nuptials.”
Patton giggled. It was amusing with how Logan was poking fun at Roman from beyond the grave. (In an almost magical way, he could almost hear an indignant noise in his ear).
“But,” Logan’s face grew sad, almost angry. “That did not last long, unfortunately. I had quickly fallen for Virgil’s rouses like the one before me. And, like him, I was met with an unfortunate end.” A deep, almost tired sigh. “To think, someone like him could have been two steps ahead of me in a metaphorical game of chess…I must say, it was truly a checkmate on his end.”
“Him murdering you, you mean?” Patton asked, fearing the answer Logan will give him. Silence. A very familiar silence.
Then, Logan nodded. “Yes. Although, poisoning is the correct terminology this time around.”

Get Lost and Andreil 🌝🌝🌝
I hope it’s okay, but I put these two prompts together, and I took the whole lines, so this is:
let’s get lost and let the good times roll + the dark caress of someone else, I guess any thrill will do
There’s a line up when they pull up to Eden’s Twilight, the 1 am crowd dispersing into the midnight one like someone refreshing the bathwater, all that new heat and fragrance.
Andrew’s already struggling to keeps tabs on his family.
Aaron’s wasted, humming to himself, picking overly carefully over the cracks in the pavement. Nicky’s only barely less drunk, and he’s all dressed up in anticipation of pride, glitter in his stubble and streaked from his cheekbones up to his hairline.
“I’m going to go find Neil,” Andrew tells them. Nicky slops both arms around Aaron’s neck so they crisscross, like a wishy-washy headlock. Aaron ducks and tries to fight him off.
“Danke,” Nicky singsongs, laughing and tussling with his cousin.
Andrew crosses his arms tight against the cold, and follows the winding line all the way to the front. There’s a clump of people clogging the door, a couple of them shouting, trying to get around the ID scanner, maybe.
Neil’s at the centre, holding one guy back firmly by the chest, and trying flatly to negotiate between two other kids who are clearly underage. He’s not tall, but he holds them at bay almost too easily, as incongruous and lightweight as a cork plugging a leak.
Their eyes meet through the commotion.
Andrew tilts his head in the direction of the bar, then back at Nicky and Aaron. Be right there, Neil mouths. Andrew shrugs.
He looks back at his family again, mixed in with the rest of the crowd. Their affection is a complicated two-step; they cringe and grin in turns, and the liquor wriggles past their distrust and turns them candid.
He watches them so he won’t linger on the way Neil’s posture changed when he spotted him, like he was straightening up for inspection.
When Andrew first met him at the club door, he’d seen only Neil’s ducked head, the way it made him look even smaller. He’d assumed that he could overpower him, easily, or that Neil would simply dissolve into his hoodie, and Andrew would forget about him.
He was always particular about the staff at Eden’s Twilight. They knew him, and he knew exactly which ones would watch the door for him, keep Aaron upright, and text him when Nicky started to think that a brawl was his business.
But then Neil had been so quick in a fight, and he’d had this--torpedo for a mouth. He’d memorized which twin was which after meeting them once, for a moment, in the dark.
He threw a punch for Nicky after he’d known them for a month.
Six months, and he did things like run out on his shift to buy Andrew’s favourite cigarettes, and let Nicky smack blue lipstick kisses on his cheek.
Andrew keeps skimming the trust off the top of him. He licks the comfort of his backup off his fingers like foam, and he never drinks deeper than that, never gets to the cool, crisp interest underneath.
He swallows cracker dust instead, pulls Roland into the back room and thinks of Neil outside the bar, guarding the door. Between the sugar and the drugs and Roland’s cherry-red mouth, the sweetness could kill him.
“Andrew,” Neil calls. “You guys are good.” He tosses him three wristbands, and Andrew snatches them out of the air. He waves Nicky and Aaron forward, and tries to thread the tricky needle of their uncoordinated bodies, the tight crowd, and Neil, still looking at him.
“Every time you let them in like this, you get closer to being fired.”
Neil rolls his eyes. “I’m not worried.”
Andrew pushes Aaron and Nicky by the shoulders, trying to force them inside, out of this moment. He feels like he’s stuffing a suitcase that’s already full. Or like he’s trying to stuff a suitcase into another suitcase.
“Drew,” Neil says quietly. Andrew looks back at him and finds his expression soft and conflicted. “Find me before you go?”
Andrew wets his lips, quick. “We’ll see.”
They detach, with a little dying flicker and spark, a power surge and then nothing.
Andrew follows his family inside, bogged down in the motion of his own legs working on the stairs, the buzz from the alcohol wearing off, but a new one burning his fingertips, the dangerous feeling that he might like to be touched.
_____
He gets drunker, warmer, faster, puts everything in his head in a blender so it’s easier to swallow. He circles back to Roland too many times, leaning over the bar to put in new drink orders, enjoying the way that he shivers if Andrew puts his hand next to his on the bar.
His brother is fixed on a high stool at a corner table, and Nicky is dancing with two people at once, a couple maybe.
He watches all this, and he also watches the front door opening and closing, cold air coming in, the flash of dark red hair caught in the wind.
“I know what you’re doing,” Roland says. He looks at him sideways. “You’re pretending I’m Neil,” he says conspiratorially.
Andrew takes a sip of his drink. “I would have to be drunker than this, to mistake you for him.”
“Fuck off. You know what I’m talking about. It’s stupid how long ago you two should have happened.”
“It’s not going to happen. He ‘doesn’t swing’, remember?”
“I don’t think you should put too much stock in what people say when Nicky’s hitting on them.”
“Some people listen, when they’re told what someone’s preferences are,” he says meaningfully, nodding at Roland’s hands.
“The touching thing again?” he asks, exasperated. “I’ve apologized a hundred times. I didn’t know it was going to be so hard to remember where I could put my hands when you were squirming around on top of--”
“Don’t finish that sentence,” Andrew warns.
Roland puts his hands up, chastened. “I just wish you weren’t so afraid of enjoying yourself,” he says.
“I’m not.”
“Oh?” Roland says. A strange look comes over his face. “Oh. You’re afraid of enjoying him.” Andrew looks up at him, and Roland grins. “You really like him.”
“Stop talking.”
“Can’t,” he laughs. “I’m having a breakthrough.”
Andrew pushes off the bar at that, and Roland calls half-heartedly after him, still laughing. It’s harder than he thought, to put space between himself and the edges of the room, to try and keep his gate steady without anything to hold onto.
He heads for the back door, jabbing the push-bar and kicking an empty bottle into the gap so it doesn’t lock behind him.
He sits down hard on the cement steps, and when he looks up, Neil is across from him in the alleyway, slung casually up against the wall, trying not to smile.
He has a cigarette between his fingers, but he’s not smoking it. “You had enough?”
“For now,” Andrew says.
Neil nods.
“You wanted me to find you,” Andrew reminds him.
“Right,” he says hastily. “I uh--wanted to give you this.” He digs in his pocket and comes up with a shiny little silver key. He crosses the alley to give it to him. When he leans in, the smoke from his cigarette leaks out over Andrew’s face.
“What does it open?”
“The back room,” Neil says, shrugging. “I know Roland takes you there, sometimes, when it gets to be too much in the club. You should be able to come and go.”
Unfortunately, Andrew can’t stop his face from heating up. He slides the key into his back pocket and looks away. “You really are going to get fired for shit like this.”
Neil shrugs one shoulder. “Fine. I’d rather do what I want to do, while I’m here. I don’t like following rules that don’t make sense.”
“While you’re here?” Andrew repeats.
Neil’s eyes flicker between his, caught. “I never end up staying anywhere for long,” he admits. “Do you?”
“We’re regulars here,” Andrew reminds him.
“I assumed that was because you wanted to see me so badly,” he jokes.
Andrew wants to disagree, but he can’t get his mouth around the lie. Since Neil gave him the key a minute ago, he’s stayed close, standing level with Andrew on the top stair. There’s wind, somewhere, but it can’t seem to fight its way between them.
When they met, Andrew assumed he could overpower Neil, but he’d had it backwards.
His cigarette drops to the ground. “Andrew,” he says quietly.
Andrew pulls himself up on the railing, and Neil steadies him by the shoulders.
“Careful,” he says.
“Too late,” Andrew says, and then he kisses the vulnerable shape of Neil’s mouth.
He slides his fingers up into that ruffled red hair, and pulls him where he wants him. Neil gives him this slow, head to waist caress, such a light touch that Andrew just shivers and shivers through it.
“Hands on the railing,” he instructs him, because he can’t stand it. His mouth moves over Neil’s as he speaks. Neil wraps his hands around the bar between them without asking any questions. His eyes are slitted open, so close that Andrew can see the seam of his contact lenses in the dark.
He kisses the wet corner of his mouth, and drags their lips together until they’re aligned again. He thrills at the brush of Neil’s knuckles, when he leans close enough to trap his hands between their chests.
He pulls on the drawstrings of Neil’s black security hoodie, twining his fingers in them. The hood constricts around his neck, and Andrew watches it close with interest. He swipes his tongue over Neil’s bruised bottom lip.
“Isn’t your family waiting for you?” Neil asks.
Andrew swallows, thumbs tucked up into the soft, buzzed hair behind Neil’s ears. He realizes that they’re moving together like they have been for months, rocking in the same direction, nodding at the same time, only now they’re much, much closer.
“I’ve been waiting for longer.”

Dean has always known where this life would lead him. It didn’t seem far fetched a year ago to envision his own death at the hands a hungry ghoul, emaciated vamp, or even at the hands of the monster they let into their home, the one he denied and denied as part of his adopted family until he was out of breath. Last year, Dean only saw pseudo-infant Jack Kline as a threat, not only to his clan but to the world.
He’d always thought he knew that the road so far would continue into the dead end ahead, that he’d never escape this hunter hell to fulfil his desperate pleas for domestic life, locked gun storage, and worn sigils under wallpaper and rugs, long forgotten by their Michelangelo.
He never in a million years thought that he’d be here: sitting in shitty lunchroom chair between his now-official adopted son and brother-turned-lover, who’s trying to send a bat signal to the couple’s fallen angel friend (and coparent) while side-eyeing the terrifying woman in front of them. He’s gotten so lost in the blue-green-yellow abyss of Sam’s eyes that he’s forgotten altogether why the hell he’s sitting here—that is, until he reads the plaque on the desk before the quartet.
Mrs. Harriet Allen
Dean of Students and President of Scholastic Affairs
Oh, yeah. This buzzkill is trying to buzz-kill his son, which he hopes she knows isn’t going to happen. He may have had a spinal injury five months ago but he can still body-bag her if need be. In an unfortunate turn of events, she notices the devious grin forming on Dean’s face in all the grotesque insanity of “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
“Is something funny, Mr. Winchester?” She snaps at him. He watches her wrinkles crease and release with anger and has to look away to avoid snort-laughing.
“Not at all, Harriet,” he pops his lips with a stern gaze of challenging authority and a smug raise of his eyebrow.
Sam gives him a look that says “what the hell are you doing” and flinches when she shuts the drawer of her IKEA desk (the builder of which, per Dean, did a shitty job assembling it) in a rather abrupt and terrifying way. Dean doesn’t even flinch, but becomes intrigued when she maintains eye contact while flipping open an ominous-looking manila folder. The thing has four, maybe five pieces of paper enclosed and has been desecrated with shaky, all-uppercase letters spelling out the words “KLINE-WINCHESTER, JACK.”
“My plaque says Mrs. Allen and so you will call me Mrs. Allen,” her thick-rimmed glasses dip on her ski slope nose when she narrows her gaze at Cas, who hasn’t uttered a thing in almost ten minutes.
Pushing the lenses back to magnify her grey-black eyes, she clears her throat and looks at Jack, who’s been twiddling his thumbs and fiddling with his bracelets since they arrived. “Mr. Kline-Winchester, do you know why I’ve called you and your…retinue here today?”
“These are my dads,” he clarifies with a meek flicker of his hooded eyes. “And, yeah, I do, ma’am.”
“Alright, and would you like to tell your dads what the reason is?” She shuffles her chair—faux leather, Dean notes, already shriveling and flaking apart—forward to intimidate. Mrs Allen sees these three men as unruly subjects to her velvet fist, but it’s revealed by her heel tapping beneath the desk that she sees Dean as more of a threat to her authority than the rest of Jack’s “retinue.”
Jack glances down the row at Sam, who’s trying to be a stern father by raising an eyebrow—an empty gesture to say the least, and then moves to distracted-by-superiority Dean, and ends at Cas, poor Cas and his helpless glint of confused trepidation that has become his defining characteristic.
Inhaling a shaky breath laced with lack of understanding at his offence, he begins his avowal in this hell of a confessional. “I…hit someone.”
Mrs Allen leans forward again. “Where did you hit them?”
“In the face. Inferior to the nasal bone.” He says in a signature “Castiel” matter-of-fact way—no room for bullshit. Sam can’t help but let out a breathy chuckle at his use of the terms he learned in Anatomy last week, the exam on which he got a 98 percent. “I didn’t feel any cracking. It was a low-impact hit, and it’d cause a superficial bruise at the w—“
“That’s enough, thank you,” Harriet puts her hand up to stop the inevitable spiel about medical terminology. God, Sam loves his quirky nerd of a son. “Why did you hit Mr. Hiscock?”
Dean snorts and doesn’t even try to hide it. He actually feels bad for this Hiscock kid—not because of Jack’s ‘low-impact’ punch but because his last name is just unfortunate. Mrs Allen really hates that he did that, and slams her fist down on the table.
“That is incredibly inappropriate, Mr Winchester,” she grumbles, but all Dean can see is Nurse Ratchet in her place. Poor Jack has to be Danny DeVito, though. He mouths a mocking apology and sits back in his chair like he did as a jock in high school. “Jack, continue. Why did you hit…Ivan?”
“Well, I didn’t mean to hit him.” Jack attempts to explain his “extensive misconduct” as the letter said—fuck, Sam thought he’d been caught having sex or smoking pot. The reality is that Jack Kline in all his purity thinks sex is for marriage and “pot” is for flowers. “I think he misunderstood…or maybe I did.”
Harriet squints her eyes at the boy and folds her arms, wedding rings becoming visible. Dean’s concentration is playing Never Have I Ever with some drunk sophomores in the janitor’s closet by now, but he finds it surprising that she found someone to marry at all. Maybe she’d been preppy and beautiful in her youth, but her significant other could still ride his Acorn stair-lift to freedom.
“What could Ivan have misunderstood, Jack?”
The sixteen-year-old literal toddler watches Cas fiddle with his trench coat button and sighs. “Well…he asked me about my bracelets.”
Mrs Allen moves to scan his wrists for these supposed wristbands but can’t see his hands over her giant plaque. “What bracelets?”
“Oh, these!” He perks up like Dean had snuck him a Pixie Stick or something, surprising everyone in the room. Jack jerks his wrists into the air and smiles. “Cas got a kit for Christmas, and so Sam, Dean, and Cas made some for me. They’re supposed to be friendship bracelets, but I like to call them ‘family bracelets.’”
Sam is the first to show his blue-green threaded band with a soft smile. “Mine says ‘happiness is only real when shared.” It’s a quote from Into the Wild.”
“And mine,” Dean rolls up his sleeve to reveal his own purple and red wristband, “says ‘kick some ass, kid’ because I’m not a nerd like my husband.”
Harriet is caught off-guard when Cas speaks, probably having expected a light and airy voice instead of the deep, monotone one that sounds when he holds his wrist up to show the black-white-yellow pattern he dons. “Mine says ‘go watch the bees.’ You won’t understand it if you weren’t there at the time.”
“Dude, you weren’t even there at the time,” Dean whispers at the angel, who simply nods his head to the left. “You were so spray-paint-high on barbiturates and propofol that you made your way into a cornfield to catch the damn bee. Sammy and I chased you for, like, twenty minutes.”
“Enough, please,” Harriet is rubbing at her temples now, praying to God, who’s currently in Cuba on a sabbatical, for this to end soon. “Jack, what did Ivan say about your bracelets that made you punch him? Was it a bullying situation?”
Jack shakes his head and scrunches up his nose in thought. “No…he pointed at them and yelled ‘what are those?!’ So, I showed them to him. I didn’t mean to hurt him, even though he does throw grapes at me at lunch. I don’t even like grapes.”
This time, Sam is the one to break down into a fit of laughter, unbridled and uncontainable, because of his son’s comment. Dean falls from grace next and joins his giant lover in his spasms of glee, not caring about the daggers Mrs Allen is eyeing them with. Cas just looks at the woman and in all his naïveté ignores the way his coparents are behaving.
“Is Jack in trouble, ma’am?” His blue eyes flutter and squint in confusion. “The letter we got threatened expulsion, and if he’s expelled I’ll have to buy more Crunch Cookie Crunch and nougat.”
Harriet has been forced into defeat by this junior and his dysfunctional parents, and therefore sighs and leans back while pinching the bridge of her nose.
“No, he’s not.” She mutters despite the noise from the two men still calming down. “Now, can you please get out of my office?”

Fauna's new audio glasses sound pretty revolutionary on paper. They come with some excellent USound speaker technology, which should mean they perform as well as you can expect an open-ear audio wearable to.
They offer a range of designer models, so even the style-conscious get a say. Plus, with a range of lenses and a reasonable price tag, they seem like a neat piece of kit.
But are they more style than substance? Or do these glasses have applications outside the spheres of music, audiobooks, and calls.
A Tour of Fauna's Sonic Spectacles
On the face of it, the Fauna glasses look, in the main, like any regular pair of spectacles. Save, of course, for the arms, which maintain a fairly bulky silhouette thanks to the electronics stowed away inside them.
We reviewed the Memor Havana model. These feature a wayfarer-style frame, in an attractive tortoiseshell colorway. The side of the frame carries the fauna logo, with the arms in black and then the ends repeating the tortoiseshell from the frame.
The lenses in this particular model are Zeiss Duravision BlueProtect. You can also get tinted lenses or sunglasses. It is of note that you can add a prescription lens to these spectacles, so that is a definite positive for Fauna, here.
The left and right arms both feature multifunction capacitive controls (more on those functions later), with a woofer speaker on the top face of each arm and the tiny USound MEMS speaker housed on the bottom of each arm, just in front of your ear. The right arm holds the microphone for voice calls.
When you close the glasses, you will also see the contact points used to charge the frames. These sit snugly against the contact points in the case when the glasses need a shot of juice in the tank.
The case, as mentioned, also charges the spectacles. It is a little on the bulky side, but then it houses a battery and a pair of glasses with thicker arms than usual, so we'll let that one slide. It isn't exactly a deal-breaker.
The case is a typical clamshell design, with a Type-C charging point and four charging indicators in the recess at the front. Said recess also affords purchase to get the box open. The charging case is a leather look and comes in a fetching green color.
Opening the case, you have the expected recesses for the glasses, plus the metal contacts for charging them.
And that is it! All fairly unassuming and, I might add, quite elegant looking (although that is totally subjective). Aside from the coral pink USB-C charging cable, which is such a bright color you can see it from another room. That isn't so subtle.
How Do the Fauna Glasses Work?
As these glasses have two separate functions, we'll deal with each, respectively.
First is the vision aspect of the Fauna eyewear. As mentioned, our test model came with Zeiss Duravision BlueProtect lenses. These lenses, as the name suggests, filter out blue light. We'll come to how well they perform at this task, in the following section.
Other than that, the glasses offer nothing else to enhance vision. However, as said, you can swap the lenses out and turn these into a pair of shades, or prescription glasses should that be a requirement. You'll need an optician to do that for you, though.
The second function to discuss is the sound. Both the left and right arms of the frames act as the chassis for the electronic components. So the woofer on top provides bass sounds, while the USound MEMS speaker underneath deals with the mids and the trebles. This affects the way the sound is heard, which we'll also discuss in the performance section of this review.
The capacitive controls to the sides of the frames offer multiple functions, and these depend on the gestures used.
Music-wise, sliding your finger backward and forwards on the left arm's outer face will increase or decrease the volume. A double-tap will pause playback. Tap and hold will result in skipping the track.
For calls, a double-tap answers the phone call, while tapping and holding cancels the call. Volume controls work the same as they would for music—with a sliding gesture to increase or decrease.
You use the right arm's capacitive control only for activating your phone's voice assistant. You achieve this with a nifty double-tap.
You can also use the Fauna glasses with a dedicated Fauna app. This adds some wellbeing features to the glasses, such as the "Whistles" feature, which reminds you to stand up and stretch your legs, or helps you focus with a selection of curated melodies.
Aside from that, the app is pretty lightweight and doesn't really add a great deal of functionality to the Fauna glasses.
Is the Fauna Blue Light Filtering Any Good?
OK, so lets take a bit of a closer look at the blue light filtering and its potential applications.
It is a commonly known fact that your eyes react differently to light depending on the color. As a blue-eyed person, I can attest to the fact that my eyes are more sensitive to bright and/or intense light than those with dark-colored irises. This is why you'll often see people with light-colored eyes squinting at the sun or vibrantly colored objects.
So, I appreciate blue light filtering as it makes me strain my eyes less. Obviously, as these are Zeiss lenses, you expect them to work. And, as they filter out blue light when you wear them, they achieve their goal. This makes them a pleasure to wear indoors and out.
Indoors, they reduce the intensity of brightly colored screens or harsh white light bulbs, affording them a softer, warmer tone. Or at least they did for me. Other wearers might find it different.
Outdoors, bright days take on a similarly less intense, warm tone, which prevents squinting to a degree, although these aren't sunglasses so don't have the same darkening effect as sunglasses do.
So yeah... nothing out of the ordinary to report here. They're blue light filter lenses. They filter blue light. Job done.
On to the Fauna's Sound Performance...
OK, so I am going to admit, I'm in two minds about the Fauna's sound performance. There are several reasons for this.
First, beyond the volume, you have no control over the sound the Fauna glasses make. So, you can't control the bass, mids, or treble. To this end, an equalizer function would have been a nice app feature.
Which brings me onto my next point. I don't feel that the bass is powerful enough. As Fauna markets these as a revolutionary device for "music, audiobooks, and phone calls", I expect to be blown away by the sound.
This is probably down to placing the woofer on the top of the arm, meaning that the sound moves away from your ears rather than being directed at your eardrum.
This would make sense, as the MEMS speaker directs the mids and trebles, from below the arm, into your ear. So, as a result, the trebles and mids sound overly accentuated, while the bass can sometimes sound nonexistent.
What I will say, though, is sound bleed is minimal with the device at low to mid volumes. This means it is still loud enough to hear music, but you can have a conversation with someone at the same time. They won't hear the music unless they put their ears next to yours.
At higher volumes, the sound bleed may be enough to irritate other people in a quiet environment, such as on the bus or train. Certainly in a library. So you would need to remain considerate of others around you and not sit there hammering out Dimmu Borgir in a library study area.
Any Other Fauna Performance Points?
Not as such. However, I am concerned that Fauna describes these glasses as water-resistant, and I would advise caution on the part of Fauna in the language it uses here. I mean, they are water and dust-resistant, but how much?
The Fauna eyewear comes with an IP52 ingress protection rating. This tells you two things, the amount of dust it is likely to let in, and the amount of water. In that order.
So it rates the dust ingress protection at 5 out of a possible 6. This is dust protected, with limited amounts of dust permitted to enter the device without damaging the internals. It isn't dust-proof, but it won't be, because of the grilles over the speakers.
This is important if you buy the Fauna sunglasses. The assumption is you'll be wearing them on hot sunny days. Therefore, if you take them to the beach, they'll need to withstand sand.
The water ingress protection rating of 2 is a concern. While this rating does offer some protection against diagonally falling drops of rain (15 degrees angle compared to vertical raindrops, as if you can ever measure the angle of rainfall when you're caught in a downpour) for ten minutes, I would still be very nervous about taking these out in wet conditions.
As such, I would personally advise against wearing them in the rain and I would urge Fauna to clarify and quantify what this ingress protection means to people buying its product. Simply stating the glasses are "water-resistant" isn't sufficient, in my opinion.
To provide contrast and context, Amazon's own audio glasses carry an IP54 rating. This would perform better in the rain, although I would still exercise caution with anything with a rating below IPX7 (the X being any given value for dust ingress, preferably no lower than 5).
The battery life is also fairly short. At four hours (which is what I squeezed out of them during testing), you won't get a full day of continuous use out of them, if that is your intention. Bose's audio glasses (sunglasses only) come with five-hour battery life. However, you don't get a charging case with those.
Bluetooth, on the other hand, is superb. I can move a full 15-20 meters away from the sound source before any breakup, which is more than Fauna states in its instruction manual.
Fauna As Part of a Wellbeing Ecosystem
This is really where I felt the Fauna eyewear showed real strength; when used as part of a larger wellbeing ecosystem alongside other devices or apps, or with sounds that you wouldn't describe as musical.
With this in mind, I am surprised that Fauna hasn't made more of this wellbeing aspect of the product. Particularly as personal wellbeing really is a zeitgeist in the current climate. The app could easily have a library of binaural beats, isochronic tones, and Zen-like soundscapes that can you can access.
Unfortunately, you only have access to the aforementioned Whistles, which are dictated by the app and the times and duration you set. However much of an oversight this may seem, these are audio glasses, so it isn't a problem to combine them with a different app.
I use Atmosphere: Relaxing Sounds on my Android phone, and it works perfectly with the Fauna. Setting the glasses to play an isochronic tone at 6 Hertz (which reportedly stimulates creativity) certainly helped while I was writing this review. Which, coupled with the blue light filter, meant I was a very content writer.
The Fauna Are Fine But Need Work
I like the concept of the Fauna and I think that they have applications outside of being just worn and for listening to music, audiobooks, or taking calls. I think they have a nice product which certainly has an aesthetic appeal.
The speaker placement concerns me, as I feel you lose some bass sounds with the woofer pointing away from your ears. I'm also concerned about the degree of water resistance the IP rating offers. As said, don't wear them in the rain and you don't risk damaging them.
Granted, this is Fauna's first bite at the apple. Hopefully, we'll see some more products from the Fauna stables that really do offer something revolutionary in terms of sound, not just the method of delivering it.

707 Fanfiction #5 - Our Promise
A/N: Second chapter to my Mysme Sci-Fi AU. Thanks to anyone who reads this^^
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Seven breathed in the cool night air. A full moon hung on the star-speckled cloudless sky. A wind breezed through the trees, making the leaves quiver in their wake. The sounds of crickets and cicadas filled the air. If he didn’t know any better, Seven would believe that he was back at home.
“Seven!”
He turned around. Hyunsoo was waving at him from the park’s entrance with a huge smile on her face. She was wearing a sky-blue sweater and her long hair trailed behind her as she ran toward him. Seven couldn’t help but grin at her as she reached him, panting slightly.
“Did you run here from your apartment?” Seven asked.
“Well, I wanted to see you,” she said nonchalantly, but still it made his pulse quickened.
“Come on. Let’s get you to sit down,” he said, his hand immediately going for hers before he caught himself and pulled his hand back, stashing them in his jacket pocket. He reminded himself, for the thousandth time, that this was a different life and she had no memories of him.
At the heart of the park was a gurgling fountain and Seven left her sitting on one of the benches while he went off to buy her a can of coffee from a nearby vending machine. And once he had given her the coffee and sat beside her, he asked, “So, why did you ask to meet at the wee hours of the day?”
Hyunsoo chuckled at his choice of words and it made him smile.
“I told you I wanted to see you,” she replied cheekily.
Seven ignored the tingling he felt at the tips of his fingers. But he grinned broadly and said, “You already saw me this afternoon. Did my presence leave a mark on you so deep that you miss God Seven already?”
“It did.”
Hyunsoo didn’t elaborate. Seven knew something was wrong. No matter how separated they had been these past several years, he had lived beside her for years before that and he could tell when something was on her mind.
“What’s wrong?”
“What?” Her eyes met his and for a brief moment, he was back at that hill, staring into her eyes, asking the same question, and she had stared at him, before she smiled and said—
Nothing’s wrong.
“Nothing’s wrong, Seven.”
And it was the same face, the same smile, the same voice. And he found himself not prying further.
“Oh right!” Hyunsoo exclaimed. “Zen’s throwing a party.”
“A party?”
“Yes! Everyone will be there. And,” Hyunsoo paused. “We were kind of hoping you’d come.” She hesitated when Seven didn’t say anything. “You’ll come, right?”
How could he say no to that face?
“When will it be?”
Hyunsoo’s smile was so bright the stars would be ashamed.
“Tomorrow evening.”
Good thing tomorrow was his day off.
“So you’ll come?”
Seven laid back against the bench, hands in his jacket pockets. “Sure I’ll come. I would never miss a showdown between Jumin and Zen. And Jumin might bring Elly so I’ll get to play with her too.”
Hyunsoo laughed. “You know that’s not going to happen.”
“He might,” Seven said with a laugh. “Just to spite Zen.”
“He doesn’t really hate Zen.”
“But Zen hates him.”
“Well that’s true,” Hyunsoo said with a laugh.
“What’s the occasion?”
“Didn’t you read the messenger?”
Seven winced guiltily. “Sorry. I’ve been busy,” he lied. Well, it was half a lie.
Hyunsoo sighed. “Zen got a new job. He wants to celebrate.”
“Oh? Congratulations!” Seven exclaimed, grinning wide. “Tell him I say congrats.”
Hyunsoo frowned. “You can tell him yourself tomorrow.”
Another pang of guilt. Was it because he had been so busy and had entered this world less and less nowadays? Even though he still managed to find some time in-between his work to visit them, most times he could only spare a few hours at most.
“Oh right, I guess I can.”
They both fell silent. Seven was used with silence. With her, it was usually a comfortable silence. They could sit for hours side-by-side without saying a word and it wouldn’t be awkward. But Seven could feel Hyunsoo was burning with questions.
She didn’t ask though.
Seven walked her back to her apartment. They talked about trivial things. He would make jokes and she would laugh.
They stopped in front of her door and she was about to say goodbye when Seven said, “You could’ve just texted me, you know, if you only wanted to tell me about Zen’s party.”
“I called you but you didn’t pick up,” she said. She tried to be nonchalant but there was a mixture of accusation and concern in her voice, not at all like the kind you’d feel from being stood up. Seven had a feeling it had something to do with what she had wanted to say. But Hyunsoo smiled before he could say anything and added, “I know you’re busy and I was afraid you wouldn’t see my text.” As if to cover the hurt she’d felt. “And I already told you I wanted to see you, right?”
“Right,” Seven said, unable to form any other words. He felt guilty again, and he didn’t know why.
“Anyway, thanks for meeting me. See you tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay,” Seven said with a nod.
He thought it was the sign he should leave but Hyunsoo kept staring at him in that way of hers that always made his pulse quickened.
He had only opened his mouth to ask, “What?” when she reached up and brushed her lips against his cheek.
Seven’s heart stopped.
Hyunsoo smiled. “That’s a promise. I gave you a kiss so you have to come tomorrow.”
She didn’t even let him say anything before disappearing behind the door to her apartment.
***
Seven woke up. And for a moment he didn’t know where he was. Blinding white light everywhere that he thought he was in heaven.
That is, until his eyes adjusted to the brightness and he saw the small circular chamber.
His hour was spent. Good thing he had made it back to his house in time.
As Luciel took off the cables and tidied the place, the ghost of a kiss still lingered on his cheek. It had been a surprise—a shock, more likely—and it had rooted him to the spot for a long while that he had to remind himself that he needed to get back. He touched his cheek. A smile played across his lips. It was a feather-light kiss and it still shook him to his core.
Luciel shut the machine down and switched off the lamps. He went back to his office with a smile on his face—he couldn’t stop smiling no matter how hard he tried—and began working until daylight nonstop.
Vanderwood asked where he had been when he entered their office but stopped when he saw Luciel’s huge smile. Neither Vanderwood nor Saeran asked anything after that. At the very least, meeting Hyunsoo that night sped up his performance. Even if they figured out where he had been, could they really complain when going in there without permission and unsupervised had improved his work?
***
His shift ended that morning.
He had breakfast with his brother as Vanderwood had somewhere else to go first.
“Save me a seat,” Vanderwood had said before running off somewhere.
So they did—took their seat on their usual place by the windows overlooking the endless black space and a TV screen hanging from the ceiling, and saved a seat for Vanderwood.
Luciel was rambling about their virtual world program and how he thought it was almost ready and Saeran just sit there, listening quietly as he ate his meal. Luciel wondered out loud what it would feel like living inside the virtual world for the rest of their life as they waited to arrive at the habitable planet.
“Did you meet her?” Saeran asked out of the blue, cutting across Luciel’s words.
The surprise at the sudden question made Luciel speechless for a few moments. Saeran waited for him to answer.
“What are you talking about?” Luciel asked when he regained his bearing.
“Don’t play dumb,” Saeran said without taking his eyes off his breakfast. When Luciel still didn’t give him the answer he wanted, Saeran added, “We’ve known for a while where you always disappear to at times.”
Luciel pursed his lips.
“I noticed first,” Saeran went on, lowering his voice. “Because every time you got back from your brief disappearances, you always have this look on your face—a look that I haven’t seen for a long while.”
Saeran looked up and met Luciel’s eyes. They were twins. They had the same posture, the same face, the same hair. They would have had the same gold amber eyes, if Saeran hadn’t gone and used contact lenses so people wouldn’t mistake them anymore. And with those eyes, Luciel felt rooted to the spot.
“It was a look you always have every time you were with her.”
There was silence. Luciel didn’t deny nor confirm it. After a while, Saeran shifted his gaze back to his food.
“Though I could be wrong,” he said.
Luciel sighed. “What do you want me to say?”
“It’s not safe, Hyung,” his brother said, “for you to go alone unsupervised. What if something happened?”
Luciel grinned. “Are you worried about me?”
Saeran, annoyed, frowned. “Is it weird for me to be worried about my own brother?”
Luciel’s grin widened. “Aww~ Saeran~”
Saeran shuddered and held a hand in front of him. “Stop!” he exclaimed. “Before you start getting all mushy at me, let me just tell you that those were Vanderwood’s words, not mine.”
“What’s that you said about me?” came Vanderwood’s voice. Both brothers looked up as the man took the seat they’d saved for him.
“My brother said you were worried about me,” Luciel said with a teasing grin.
Vanderwood’s disgusted look was priceless and he shot a glare at Saeran. “What’s that you said about me?” he repeated with an ominous smile.
Saeran, however, wasn’t affected, and he just shrugged. Vanderwood shifted his gaze at Luciel and lifted an eyebrow in question.
Luciel smirked. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
“For God’s sake, Luciel, whatever he told you ain’t true,” Vanderwood said.
Luciel laughed. “It’s okay if it isn’t true,” he said after a while. A smile lingered on his face as he looked at his plate of half-eaten toast. “Thank you.” His voice was quiet and neither of his companions heard.
Though he had been up all night, Luciel didn’t feel tired, and after they finished their breakfast, he found himself walking toward the monitoring room—one level above his office. He was a bit irritated that the monitoring room was never empty. Because that meant he wasn’t free to do what he wanted. Also, there was no spare empty room with a spare computer that he could use to monitor the virtual world and the people inside, so in the end he always had to let one of the scientists to rest as he took over his work for a while.
Luciel found the scientist he meant, black haired and a few years older in his uniform, staring at the monitor before him with half-closed eyes. He had rested his cheek on his hand once upon a time, and he was dozing peacefully with how his head bobbed up and down.
“Hey!” Luciel called, startling the scientist with a hand on his shoulder.
The scientist jumped—literally jumped—out of his chair, his back straight, and shouted, “Sir, yes, Sir!”
Luciel bit down on the laughter that almost escaped his lips. He cleared his throat and said, in a deep voice, “Duty report, Sergeant.”
“Yes, sir, there’s—”
The scientist stopped short, a confused look in his eyes, before he blinked once, twice, thrice, and—
“Luciel?”
“Aww… You’re awake?” Luciel couldn’t hide his disappointment.
The scientist blinked several more times before he looked around, at the monitoring room, at his desk and the monitors showing footages shifting from landscapes to cityscapes, and another listing data and graphics of South Korea’s population and demographics.
“Morning, Jay,” Luciel said with a smirk, as a way of greeting as Jay the scientist’s brown eyes fixed on him again.
“I fell asleep, didn’t I?” Jay asked, as he stifled a yawn.
“And you woke up too soon before I could do something about it,” Luciel said with a teasing frown.
Jay scowled as he stretched his arms and body. “Good thing I woke up before you did something about it.” He glanced at his watch. “God, it’s only eight-thirty?”
“Yes, time moves so slow when all you do is watch a monitor filled with numbers and words and people’s boring lives.”
Jay crossed his arms. “For your information, I find watching people’s daily lives to be fascinating.”
“So fascinating that you fell asleep only after one and a half hour of your shift?” Luciel replied with a raised eyebrow.
Jay, however, didn’t falter. “So what do you want?”
Luciel shrugged. “I’d thought to help you on your job since you seemed to be so tired, but I guess you find it to be so enjoyable you don’t need to take a break for an hour or two.”
“Make it three,” Jay said without hesitation.
Luciel sighed. “Fine. God, you have no mercy on your friend who had just gotten back from a night shift.”
Jay smirked. “Well, no one asked you to help me on my job.” He grasped Luciel’s shoulder, then, and dug his fingers through Luciel’s clothes. “But please don’t mess anything. If I find something missing or even an inch out of place when I’m back, I’m dragging you to the higher-ups. I’m not going to explain myself for the mess you make again.”
His features were casual, but his fingers dug hard and deep and Luciel knew his friend was serious. Not that he would have a problem with explaining himself for it. Heck, even if he did mess with something and was asked to put everything back in place, it would probably only take him half an hour—at the most. But Jay was his friend—the first friend he made once he was recruited as this facility’s programmer—so Luciel nodded.
He held up a hand and said, “I promise I will not mess with anything.”
But Jay had caught the playful undertone in his voice, and his friend could only sigh. He let go of Luciel and scratched his head. “Sometimes, I don’t know what to do with you.”
Luciel grinned. “Thank you.”
“That’s not a compliment.” Jay sighed. “Fine, I’ll be back in three hours, okay?”
He didn’t wait for Luciel’s reply before he left and Luciel sat down on Jay’s seat and faced one of the side monitors on his desk. With a quick work, he already managed to push aside Jay’s work to his central monitor and access the CCTV feeds that showed the perfect replica of his city. With another quick work, he found Hyunsoo’s apartment complex, accessed that apartment’s CCTV feeds, and found the ones around her apartment.
He divided the screen into four CCTV feeds: the hall outside the apartment, just inside the apartment, the living room that also showed the door to the bedroom if he tried to move the camera around, and the kitchen. He immediately found her in the living room, sitting on her couch, typing on her phone. She would sometimes smile and laugh and Luciel knew she was chatting with the rest of the gang in the messenger app he had built for them a couple years ago. It brought a smile to his face.
A couple years…
Had it been that long since he started sneaking into the virtual world? He remembered the first time Hyunsoo appeared at the facility—roughly three years ago? His heart always had the tendency to stop at something that involved her, but at that time…
He couldn’t describe what he was feeling. His heard had stopped dead and all he could think was that this facility wasn’t a place for someone like her—someone so bright and cheery, someone who had a future.
“They asked for volunteers, so I volunteered,” she had said when he had confronted her about it.
“I’m asking you why?” Luciel had asked, irritation and worry lining his every features.
She crossed her arms as she said, “Because I want to, that’s why. Besides, Yoosung came.”
“Don’t tell me you came because Yoosung came.”
Hyunsoo frowned. “No, he came because I came.”
The frown had been cute and it had made his heart skip a beat—damn his traitorous heart—but Luciel had held a firm stance. He sighed through his nose. “Do you know who the test subjects are?” He tried to reason with her. “Homeless people, people with no family, criminals with death sentences—basically anyone who has no future.”
“So?”
“So?!” Luciel couldn’t believe this girl. He gripped her shoulders and shook her. “Have some common sense! This place isn’t for someone with a bright future as you!”
Hyunsoo’s frown deepened. “For one thing, Sae—”
“Luciel,” he corrected her.
Hyunsoo sighed. “For one thing, Luciel, I decide what place is for me,” she said, extricating herself from his grip. “And for another thing,”—she looked at his eyes and smiled—“Do you remember our promise?”
Luciel’s face went red instantly when he recalled that promise he had made before V recruited him.
“This way, you’ll be able to keep it.”
And that had been the end of it. There had been no way of talking her out of it. Not that she would be allowed to leave the place, but Luciel knew he could somehow persuade V to find her some other work to do. A cook would have been nice. Hyunsoo was a good cook. And it would have been nice to eat her cooking once in a while.
They had been developing the final stages of the program and it featured something new. The program was almost complete and one of the final touches was to see how the subjects would fare inside the virtual world with no memory of their real life in the real world.
And her memories were wiped as she entered hibernation. And he would sometimes watch her live her new life through Jay’s monitor like he did now. And he watched how she met Kim Yoosung again, and Zen the stage actor, and Han Jumin the corporate heir, and Kang Jaehee, Jumin’s chief secretary.

29) Was the last time you saw your mom: Almost 9 years ago to the day.
30) Was something you wish you could change about your life: Too many to name. Although right this minute, I’d like to be less of a twat when I drink.

32) Gets on your nerves: Being a twat when I drink.
33) Talked to a person named Tom: This question doesn’t make sense. I would like to personally find the person who came up with the quiz and scold them in to better grammar.

38) Hair color: Rat
39) Long/short hair: I think it’s short, everyone else thinks it’s long. Body dismorphia is a strange beast.
40) Crush: Cans most frequently. Sometimes cardboard boxes.
41) Do you like about yourself: I have a fully functioning digestive system.

51) Surgery: I had all three of my wisdom teeth removed. So now I am not wise. And I was always 1/4 less wise than everyone else anyway.

54) Sport: I don’t think I’ve ever done anything to qualify.
55) Vacation: I went to Majorca and got stung by a jellyfish.

66) Lips/eyes: Both are useful.
67) Taller/shorter: Taller for reaching things on the top shelf at the supermarket, shorter for weaving between annoying people blocking your path.
68) Younger/older: I mean.... young is good, unless you’re ready to die, then old is good. Young is good for playing and not getting weird looks from other adults, older is good for getting drunk.
69) Romantic/spontaneous: I can’t see how these things are contradictory. But I prefer to plan out my non-romantic events carefully.
70) Nice arms/nice stomach: I prefer people to have both, but I suppose if I had to pick one, stomach. You don’t get far without one.

77) Turned someone down: Yeah. Once. I felt bad.

85) Miracles: No. Because there isn’t a old white dude with a beard sitting on a cloud.
86) Santa Claus: Sadly no, because there isn’t an old white dude hiding under the snow.
87) Kisses on a first date: Well, I believe in them because they happen. I haven’t really ever dated though... so... It wasn’t really a thing in England. You got drunk with people, and sometimes they didn’t leave.
88) Angels: No. Because there aren’t lots of white naked guys flapping about.

What is the best car insurance company in North Carolina?
Hi. So I recently moved from New England to North Carolina. I have my 2002 Toyota Camry. It was my Dad's and is still under his name. However, I want to get the title in my name hopefully by early 2014. That means paying for insurance too. I figure I'm going to have to do this soon, might as well do it now and learn more responsibility. My parents are paying for my car and their cars under MetLife. (Yes, the one with the Snoopy logo). They are paying about the same plan they did in Massachusetts. I know North Carolina has more competition in pricing and I want to shop around for a decent plan that gives me what I need but for a better price. My Mom is hysterical and doesn't want me to go anywhere else because she think NC insurance is crap. I like that MetLife gives me what I need but I'm not paying more than I have to in insurance. Sorry Mom. So my question is. What is the best car insurance company in North Carolina? Any suggestions. I would like a company that offers affordable plans but also is a reliable company when I need them. Please NO cheapo discount insurance. Here are my only two liabilities in my driving history: 1. Got into a minor car accident in October of 2011. Just a paint smear with another car. Nobody was hurt and neither car got in worse performance condition. 2. Got a seatbelt violation ticket in January 2013. (It was actually for speeding but the cop went easy probably because he saw I was wearing a suit. I was on my way to a family memorial service near the South Boston area.) Any experiences? I mean, what is my Mom worried about? I never hear in the news about people dying because they have NC car insurance. I know there is cut rate (bad) insurance out there because of competition. But there's got to be something better in NC than paying a Taxachuetts MetLife plan. (Sorry BayStaters, but you know it's true) Thank you!""

Problem with car insurance?
This isn't my car. So sorry if I'm fussy on details. Basically in the snow a car lost control of their car and crashed into my friends car. Which was parked up. They were decent and called their insurance company. Unforcantly there's a problem with the door that needs to be replaced. They said they will give her 600 and she has to cover the rest. Surely it all should be paid by their insurance not just some of it? Her father wants to demand money off the bloke which I don't thinks right. But I wanted to know where they stand on getting money off the insurance. And what advise I can give them. Why pay insurance if they don't give out. Doesn't make sence. Anyone been in a similar situation? What was the result? Cheers.

Car insurance company question?
State farm gave me a car insurance quote 6 months ago. I agreed to it and they set up an account. They told me that we would have automatic payments made to them every month and that my coverage would stay the same. My husband and I never checked to make sure they were still automatically withdrawing the payments until today, 6 months later. I tried to call my insurance agent and she quit! I have not been covered since after the first month, and no one ever called to let me know I was no longer insured. HAD SOMETHING HAPPENED, ME AND SOME OTHER DRIVER WOULD'VE BEEN SCREWED. Who do I talk to about this? BTW I switched insurance companies since then and am now covered. I just was wondering who I can complain to about this.""

Is car insurance somewhat ridiculous?
ok i may be a little ranting cuz i was at fault for causing my first accident a long time ago, so my rates would go up. this got me thinking, the car was under someone else in my family's name, and the basic idea ive come to question is: after decades of paying for insurance with no accidents, it would probably be more than enough to cover the car repair damages instead of paying for all those years in addition the first accident i got into causing the rates go up? so i mean, isn't car insurance somewhat like a scam since obviously theres not as many accidents as there are people driving without any incidents?""

How Much Would My Car Insurance Be?
I'm a 20 year old female who just got her license, so I have no driving record to speak of. I want to buy a cheap used car (somewhere south of 2 or 3 thousand dollars.) What I would really like would be an old Ford Ranger (a small pick-up truck) or a Jeep Cherokee. I know insurance definitely increases for a truck, and unfortunately, Jeeps are considered recreational vehicles (because their original use was for off-roading and such) so it would also increase my insurance. However, since I'm planning on buying an older car (like late 90s or early 2000s) I wouldn't have a car payment, only an insurance payment (and gas, of course.) So does anybody have any vague ideas of how much my insurance payment would be?? If it helps any, I'm going to be put on my parent's insurance, and my brother (who currently IS on their insurance) drives a PT Cruiser and his payment is $150 a month. I'm guessing mine would be north of $200, but not above $250? Is that close? Any ideas? Thanks! -Ashley""

I recently got a dui. I cancelled my insurance afterward and I'm just about to get done with the 90 day hard suspension. I am getting a hardship licese in a week. Anyways i need to get car insurance. I have a trial in January in which I hope to get a not guilty verdict by the jury. In the meantime when I look at insurance quote questions, it asks of any infractions in last 36 months. Wondering if I need to put down the dui as an infraction or no. (I am innocent untill provin guilty). I dont know if i dont have to put dui down or not since i have not been convicted. If no great, But if yes could you also let me know that if i do have to put dui down and I am found not guilty in court in january, can i take action to get lower payment or money back""

Just doing some budgeting / planning and wondering what rental insurance runs on small planes? Also, should I get that during my flight training or just once I'm out on my own? What can a car finance company do if you no longer have insurance?
I bought a 2004 vehicle (from CarMax) about 3 months ago. The finance company (Capital One Auto Finance) would only approve me if I started an insurance policy before I left the dealership. I did, but have since let that policy go, for different reasons. The finance company is now sending me letters to give them updated insurance info, or they may take appropriate action to protect its interest . What exactly does that mean??? All my payments have been on time, actually 2 weeks or more early. So, what can they do if I continue not to have insurance, since my payments on the vehicle are all in order? Since guessing or assuming won't help me, sources for your answers would be helpful. Thanks.""
