Literally insane to me how small the general webtoon fandom is outside of the webtoon app itself (and maybe reddit??)

I've talked to multiple people irl who LOVE reading webtoon, but the online community is borderline threadbare ! Most people on Tumblr have no IDEA who our blorbos are! I've checked tags for some fairly popular webtoon and it was like visiting that Tatooine town in the Mandalorian where there are 5 citizens total, but only if you also count the Mayor, the sheriff, and the deputy.

Lore Olympus is the most popular webtoon and has under 2,000 fics on AO3. Lookism has roughly 1,000. Unordinary, THEE legacy webtoon, only has 600, and it's been running for almost 7 years now. It has nearly 6M subscribers and still gets 50K+ likes each week. It's not dead by any means.

I guess it doesn't help that each webtoon is its own micro ecosystem and once a webtoon ends, that ecosystem typically fades with it. But webtoons can go on runs longer than most shows on streaming services, and those fandoms burn hot and bright even if only for the first month of a new season drop.

By comparison, webtoon fans are largely casual about their enthusiasm, even if they're highly invested in the story or characters. From my experience, only the most passionate try to connect with other fans online. But when you're passionate about one webtoon, I suppose it's hard to show constant excitement about the 20+ other stories one might keep up with. Still, between the 85 million monthly readers, you'd think each major webtoon would at least have a dedicated fan base (meaning people who regularly post theories, thoughts, fics, and fanart) of mere thousands outside of the app.

One exception for this is that Batman webtoon? It actually trends on Tumblr every now and again. But it doesn't count, because Batman has a built in fandom who'll eat up and yell in the streets about any content where he's a decent dad.

People who read romance webtoon all tend to read the same comics, and actively understand the references to other popular romance comics (Trashta, Team Seojun, SLS), so you'd think there'd be a greater sense of unity. More people actively searching out others to discuss with and posting their thoughts online and not just in that webtoon's comment section.

I mean, C'MON girls!!! Millions of people log into that app like everyday!!! WHERE is the community?? WHERE is the fanart?? WHERE is the fanfic?? WHY does Odd Girl Out only have 7 fanfics?? WHY are there like 2 people on Twitter posting about Weak Hero?? Head in hands fr

Vaggie: "Then I met my sisters in arms and they taught me to constantly check if someone's sneaking up behind me whenever I'm near a high edge of any kind."

Vaggie: "That's, a pretty normal way to learn. Right?"

Charlie: "......."

Charlie: "....wellllll-"

Vaggie: "Don't tell me. Another trauma."

Charlie: "I think the blunt force of the impact that broke every bone in your body probably counts, yes."

Vaggie: "Did I traumatize our kid by throwing her off the roof, Charlie."

Charlie: "If she was any OTHER kid I'd again say probably!"

Charlie: "But you DID catch her and she just laughed, and now our darling baby keeps climbing up me to try launching herself off again, so I think we're good! Aside from my racing heartrate anyway- GAH BABY NO!!!"

baby: (launching self) "WHEEEE HEE HEE-!"

Vaggie: "Gotcha." (catches) "Sweetie, don't traumatize your mom."

Charlie: (clutching chest and hanging off of vaggie) "IM OKAY!!!!!"

I have been screaming this into the void for years, but it's nice to basically have confirmation that

Anakin trained Ahsoka to survive.

That's it. He trained her to be what she needed to be to make it through the Clone Wars, and he was successful. This episode hammered home how young she was 14 in the middle of a war zone with only a lightsaber and her courage, and Anakin of all people knew how to get her through it.

He didn't train her to be the best jedi, but he taught her to survive, and that's what she needed most at the end of the day.

Fake Peppino may be a rotund, tall, gooey, several hundred pound clone of Peppino, but that doesn't mean he takes certain words kindly! even if it's meant playfully, it's important to use the correct words when referring to Fake Peppino's.... "roundness" to ensure you continue existing on this plane!

some good examples of "safe" words to use! : large, round, big, rotund. "chubby" and "chonky" MAY be alright, but only if you're good enough friends with him! be sure to choose your words wisely!

an example of a GOOD way to properly address your local Fake Peppino's "largeness"! phrases like "big guy", "big boy", and "big fella" are usually appreciated! he does like to be seen as larger than most others, in the words of a wise prophet: "He likes to be tall!"

and now for the words you SHOULDN'T be saying to him under any circumstances! even if it's jokingly/playful, Fake Peppino takes most words very literally, and he does NOT like rude language!!

so, if you value your life, advise against ever using the words "fat", "flabby", "bloated", "portly", or anything similar! ruder language will not be tolerated, so be sure to use only words you know will be seen as kind! otherwise, being "rude" and calling Fake Peppino fat, means that you're likely about to add to that weight.

With the big news regarding UTMV I want to take a moment to say something.

Fandom is suposed to be a place where you have fun. It is playing wiht fictional characters like they are dolls.

It is fine. It is harmless.

People may not agree with your views/headcanons/or ships and that is fine. As long as everyone is nice to each other and remain chill.

Remember. We are playing with dolls. The dolls don't have any feelings and what you like in art/fiction does not reflect in real life. (because if it did a LOT of action/horror/thriller movies would be forbidden. remember that.)

Now. What to do if someone is mean?

You get anon hate?

Turn off anons. Just turn it off.

They make an account. Look. It is NOT your resposibility to cater to others or to make content for them. Fandom is a community. We have fun together. We relax together. We interact and talk together. We aren't making content. we are trying to have fun together!

As soon as someone is being rude/mean/entitled? You report them. After that? You block them and keep yourself safe.

Don't. Feed. The. Troll.

Don't. Feed. The. Hater.

They WANT attention. Nothing you say will get through to them. They will see it as winning because you gave them attention and that is all they want.

It isn't rude to block someone. It is how you keep your online enviroment happy and hate free. It is one of the ways to protect yourself online.

Report the trolls and haters and then Block the Trolls and Haters.

Don't interact with them directly.

Interact with the people who see the fandom for what it is.

A place where we enjoy making things that make us happy and are happy to interact. Let people make what they make and let people play with the dolls they way they like. Keep in mind no character has true feelings and so they can not be hurt. Mind your tags and mind your own space.

It is your own responsibility to keep your fandom experience nice.

Don't engage with tags you don't like but don't spread hate. You can always block tags and put a filter to not see them.

Don't interact with haters or trolls and just block those.

Don't expect others to always agree with what you think or your headcanons. Everyone has a different view on the characters and that is fine.
