A 6 year (almost to the day!) throwback to June 2015 and my first "burst" encounter, at @rumbleseatmusic in their old location in Ithaca NY. . This 1960 #Gibson #LesPaul Standard was the very first burst I had ever seen in real life. I was on vacation with my parents, driving around Pennsylvania (where we visited the Martin Factory in Nazareth...but that's for another post!) and New York, and I basically said we are not going back to Canada without stopping at the world famous #RumbleSeatMusic in Ithaca! . When we arrived at the store (right at opening time), there were literally dozens of vintage cases all over the showroom floor. The guys explained that they had just gotten back the night before with a truck full of guitars bought at the Dallas Guitar Show, and they were so late getting in that they had just unloaded the truck onto the floor of the shop and were going to sort everything out the next morning. I asked if they had anything interesting and one fellow said "oh yes, I think you will like this one!" and proceeded to dig a case out from the pile. As soon as he popped it open I knew exactly what I was looking at and TBH I came close to peeing myself with excitement! I could not believe they let me pick it up too...although when they told me the price I put it right down again! 😂 . One thing that has stayed with me all these years (other than the memory of how incredible it was to see my first real burst!) was just how welcoming and cool the guys at Rumble Seat were. I was just some nobody off the street and they dropped everything to show me a priceless guitar I never in a million years could afford and they had zero chance of selling to me! They even remembered I had been in about 8 months earlier and bought a guitar from them! Ric 🐢 (and I!) is (are) so excited! . First and foremost: my "2022 Bursts and Goldtops" calendar order arrived from @eleanorjanephoto!! I'm now officially ready to face 2022 with proper #guitars to keep me company! 😆 . Second (and even more foremost): aunty Eleanor did not forget her favourite young Canadian turtle nephew this year, and very kindly added a few very thoughtful personlized bonus items to the parcel, all the way from beautiful Welsh seaside resort town of Barry: genuine Barry Island Rock candy, and...oh God it's so exciting he can barely contain himself...an UNCLE BRYN FRIDGE MAGNET!!! 😂 . For North Americans who aren't familiar with the TV show, the James Corden and Ruth Jones comedy "Gavin & Stacey" is set partly in Barry, Wales, and it is one of Ric's favourite shows ever. And his favourite character is Uncle Bryn, played by @robbrydon (who Ric also enjoyed on "Would I Lie to You" and "The Trip" movies), so this is a unique and especially thoughtful gift indeed for a young anthropomorphic turtle - something Ric could never dream of ever finding here in Canada! . The magnet will adorn Ric's fridge forever. My turtle, Ric, always looks forward December. Because even though he doesn't really understand the concept of linear time and the passage of the artificial, man-made construct that are the months of the year, he does know that December is the time of year when @eleanorjanephoto's new Bursts and Goldtops Calendar always arrives in the post from the UK!
