Nan King, an oyster girl, is captivated by the music hall phenomenon Kitty Butler, a male impersonator extraordinaire treading the boards in Canterbury. Through a friend at the box office, Nan manages to visit all her shows and finally meet her heroine. Soon after, she becomes Kitty's dresser and the two head for the bright lights of Leicester Square where they begin a glittering career as music-hall stars in an all-singing and dancing double act. At the same time, behind closed doors, they admit their attraction to each other and their affair begins. (goodreads.com)

Graphic memoir turned award-winning Broadway musical. Depicts the author’s childhood spent in a funeral home and an antique-filled old house. Packed with family drama, murky truths, great vocabulary, and some mature content. Highly recommended for high school and up!🏠 #graphicmemoir #graphicmemoirs #graphicnovel #graphicnovels #lesbian #lesbianbooks #lesbianlit #lesbianliterature #feminist #feministbooks #feministlit #feministliterature #gay #gaybooks #gaylit #gayliterature #lgbt #lgbtbooks #lgbtlit #lgbtliterature #memoir #broadwaymusical #antiques #architecture #gayauthors #lesbianauthors #instantclassic #tragicomic #bookstagram #pennsylvania https://www.instagram.com/p/BtHqP7Pj07D/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=7wzfcs5g768o

you cannot claim to care about and support bi women while actively dismissing their sexuality as some kind of LesbianLite™ and getting mad at them for...being bisexual. if you don't care about bi women unless you can pretend they're not ACTUALLY bi, you're literally just biphobic. point blank, period, end of. bi women existing and discussing their experiences with bisexuality and being explicitly bisexual is not some personal attack on us I think there's something fucking wrong with some of y'all.
"I'm not biphobic! I just think bi women should shut up and never speak about being bisexual unless they're only ever talking about being attracted to women" are you stupid? don't answer that.
#venus ambassador give us a post#bi women are our friends our lovers our sisters and seeing the way too many lesbians speak so lowly of them makes me sick#grow up get the fuck over yourselves youre disgusting

“Annie On My Mind” Booktalk
Garden, Nancy. (1982). Annie On My Mind. New York, NY: Farrar, Straus, and Giroux. Hardcover; ISBN: 9780374404130; $17.
Liza Winthrop is student body president at the prestigious private school Foster Academy in New York. She dreams of becoming an architect, and she seemingly has it all: nice school and great family in a great neighborhood. Then one day she meets a girl at a museum that changes everything, that makes her feel things she's never felt before, making her question her very identity. The girl's name is Annie, and she comes from a big Italian family in a rough neighborhood and attends a public school with security guards. The two girls seemingly couldn't be more different, and yet they are drawn to each other immediately. As their relationship progresses from friends to more than friends, both girls must face censure and prejudice from the outside world. For a long time, Liza internalizes shame and guilt about her feelings for Annie. Slowly she comes to realize that there is nothing wrong with her or the love she feels for Annie, and that it is the outside world that needs to become more accepting. Liza has Annie on her mind, and in the end she is proud of her love for Annie and accepts herself for who she is.
Awards: ALA Best Books for Young Adults (1982), ALA Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults (1997), Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement (2003), Capitol Choices Noteworthy Book for Children and Teens (2009)

It may look like a grocery store paperback, but this book is actually a classic! Fierce young lesbian takes childhood, college, and NYC by storm, facing requisite mid-20th-century misogyny and homophobia. Don’t wait til you’re getting a gender studies degree to read it...but maybe do wait a few years if you’re a kid or kid at heart or just generally want your innocence preserved. Disclaimer: this book will ruin grapefruits for you.🍊#ritamaebrown #rubyfruitjungle #lgbtbooks #lgbtqbooks #queerbooks #yabooks #queerya #queerclassics #gayclassics #queet #lgbt #lgbtq #bookstagram #lesbian #lesbianbooks #lesbianliterature #lesbianlit #lesbians #gay #gaybook #gaybooks #lesbianclassics https://www.instagram.com/p/BsKFEhPl1Ik/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jm170xq7s43u

Rita Mae Brown's Rubyfruit Jungle was a lifeline for my younger self. It was considered remarkable for its portrayal of lesbian life when it was first published in 1973. 🏳️🌈📚🏳️🌈 #ritamaebrown #rubyfruitjungle #lesbianlife #lesbianlit #pridemonth

Lesbian Romance will be the death of me
And you wonder if it’ll ever feel that way again, for someone, for anyone. Fiction to fill the void of absent friction. Great, your life couldn’t be better. Who wants the drama of these clueless characters anyway? The mess, the clutter, the lost of control. It’s overwhelming. No, such things are meant to be bound. Preferably tied neatly in the end.
You wonder sometimes if the loneliness creeping in at night is your own doing. A voyeur to lives unlived, you'll start to believe that they'd suddenly appear and spoon you into a puddle of goo. Or simply, the absence of even the faintest beep of a kindred soul within the 500 mile radius of your gaydar, makes you want to escape. The bed less enticing when it’s empty. Their beds are never empty. sigh.
They have it so easy, you think but keep on going till your eyes are forced shut. Resolved to flip through pages of romance nowhere in sight in the real world.
In the morning you’d wake up, spend a couple of minutes imagining the scenes from last night. You’d seek release and as usual, you’d manage. Mechanical and dreamy at the same time— purposeful always, just enough to get you through the day.
