I’m sighing with d’Artagnan here, because I was so ready to love the new movie and then… didn’t.

I felt like the film didn’t quite know what it wanted to be - a period drama, a mystery, an adventure story? Political or funny? Suspenseful or a slow build?

The pacing felt uneven, the changes they made to the novel were, imho, not making the story better, and they left out some iconic scenes that needed to happen. (The Wine Cellar Incident™️!)

Some of the casting choices weakened the movie and erased a good amount of chemistry between several characters.

The action scenes were confusing because everyone looked alike, dressed in indistinguishable brown. (Whatever happened to the iconic blue in the Musketeer uniforms? Just a splash would have made such a difference!) I did like the very feathery hats, though.

Eva Green didn’t get the right moments to shine. She may still get a chance when she plays off Vincent Cassel in part 2, but so far I’m underwhelmed by her performance.

Aramis looked like an aging gigolo who smells of horse dung and bad teeth, and while that’s certainly authentic, this version of him has nothing to do with Dumas’ Aramis in the novel. The fact that they put guyliner on him mellows my grudge a bit.

Athos? Looks like he’s in his sixties and Vincent Cassel, too, couldn’t really showcase the full force of his acting skills. The writing simply didn’t allow for that.

Porthos gets an okay from me. I really liked his energy, his positive attitude, and I was very surprised and fully agree with the writers’ decision to make him snack both men and women. He’s a man with an appetite, and I am here for it!

D’Artagnan was my favorite in the movie. He has a sparkle to him, and a youthful headstrongness that is very book!d’Art. His love story with sweet, self-confident Constance was the best part of the movie for me.

They tried a bit too hard to make the film more political-historical. Would’ve been a good idea if they’d executed it well. But again: the pacing is off, sometimes it all drags, and except for creating a good action scene in the cathedral, it didn’t work for me.

I did like that they fleshed out Milady’s backstory in terms of how she became a criminal, and I hope they will use the changes they made to make her character more ambiguous in part two.

And the musical score? I don’t know. I can’t remember a single note. Nothing stuck. Nothing swelled. That’s not how it should be, is it?

That’s the short of it: The whole movie simply wasn’t compelling.

There are worse ways to spend an evening, and there are worse movies, but this is a French adaption of “Les Trois Mousquetaires”, and I really and wholeheartedly had expected something to come out of it that was more than acceptable average.

I’ll watch part two, because I’m still curious how they’ll wrap it up, and I still hope it’ll draw me in. But until then I’ll remain sadly underwhelmed.

Hello fellow QSMP Tumblr people, I would like to make a offer and would love to see if this can catch on.

If we're adopting A1, let's go all out. We're taking care of this kid.

At least three times a week, someone on Tumblr, under the "qsmp a1 tasks" tag, should draw or write something about A1 doing at least one of the official tasks for that day or the prior few days (cause I know it takes time to draw or write). It doesn't have to be huge, could be anything from a sketch to a full picture or comic, from a few sentences to a full short story, as long as it appears under the tag and has something to do with A1 and one of the recent tasks! (Please say somewhere what task you're doing and what day it was from.)

A1 doesn't mind what name you use - Ai, Aaron, Ivan, just A1, something else entirely - as long as you still use the right tag so everyone can see that there's been a task completed. They also use any pronouns and have a whole wardrobe of accessories, again as long as it's clear in the art or story that the egg is A1 and not one of the other eggs.

Feel free though to include yourself or your OCs or one of the QSMP members or none or all of them, this is just a series of writing/drawing prompts with a purpose, go wild and have fun!

Due to it being Saturday already, required tasks won't start until this Monday. After that, let's see how long we can keep our community's new kid going!

Am I the only one who felt left hanging? We BEEN knew it didn't make sense, but what's your POINT, exactly? If Louis misremembered Lestat whispering, it's just par for the course about the odyssey of recollection. But if Lestat DID do telepathy, is that evidence of...what? That the vampire bond works differently than what's been explained? That he COULD read Lou's mind? AMC, this is AGGRAVATING.

You know this was TEARING Lestat up, cuz of what happened in 1973--I gave Louis to you so you could do BETTER by him than EYE did, and instead it's NICKI ALL OVER AGAIN.

He did. He just forgot, when reality settled in and the allure/nostalgia/glamour wore off. "I tried to make nights awful for you." Not the whole time, Louis. Y'all actually were happy b4--even Claudia said "the easy times" stopped after Florence died; and esp. after Charlie died. Lou can't be blamed for grieving his mom's death, and he definitely can't be blamed for Lestat & Claudia falling out after Charlie. Everything that happened after that--the 7 years of depression--was ALSO Lestat's fault. "I wanted you to suffer, cuz I was suffering;" I'm glad Les just waved that aside and said they BOTH wronged e/o.

He's not suicidal anymore then! He has nights in front of him to look forward to! So Lou can finally "learn to live honestly" with HIMSELF.

And Lestat dove RIGHT ON IN with that! He's been carrying that with him for DECADES, worried about Louis & what happened.

I LOVE that Les' language changes (the way his voice CRACKS and goes so TINY, oml)--he asked Lou in 1973 if he was "ill," and if something had happened TO him; so as to not spook/trigger or blame him--but he can ask more candidly now in a (relatively) "healthier" 2024 if Lou tried to hurt/kill himself; and get a more candid/honest answer. CLOSURE, y'all, I'm gonna cry.

GOOOOOOD. Don't EVER forget your daughter. Y'all need to have a Claudia Memorial; to KEEP remembering her, as she was in all her vampiric splendour, the good times AND the bad times.

I KNOW this hurt Louis to his effing core. The way Jacob cried FIRE!

I'm so glad Lou hugged him--YES YOU WERE, Uncle Les. And you KNOW it; you FELT that bond b/t y'all, even if she never looked at you. The distance b/t y'all was in name only, cuz a little Black girl couldn't have TWO daddies in 1917 and have one of them be white on top of it. It has been two years since the sack of Troy, each of the Achaean kings went off on their own, Menelaus has brought his beloved wife Helen back to Sparta, slowly rebuilding their relationship, Agamemnon goes off to eventually get killed by his wife, but what about Whittle Odysseus?, well dear poets and muses, our poor trickster had sadly sunken to the sea by the rage of Poseidon, for the consequences of injuring the Cyclops Polyphemus, ending his journey to make it back to his witty Penelope and his son, Telemachus who still wonders where his father is.

But that doesn't stop the love of a husband, a love of a father, a man who would sacrifice anything to see them again, so by fateful chance, a rotten hand comes out of the old wreckage of the multiple ships that were destroyed, grabbing onto a small plank, something comes up from the surface, a man who was dead, his skin was a deadly pale, with bits of rot around the body, his hair remained short, the skin between his bottom jaw was slightly torn and rotten, showing bits of bone and skin, his eyes remained the same grey that reassembled the goddess of wits.

Gripping tightly onto the plank, the rotten corpse only muttered out two words

Nous présenterons ce livre vendredi à la Bibliothèque de Saint-Brieuc (détails plus bas : [FR]).

[ENG] Here is the Arts & Crafts version, entirely handcrafted, of my art book Forgotten Gods. We printed it with Psyché, using our own presses on Vélin d'Arches paper. Each design in the book was then screen-printed by hand with gold and colored inks, with up to five different screen-printing passes depending on the complexity of the pages.

Once the sheets were folded and gathered into signatures, Sophie Charlot, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France, meticulously bound them by hand. Belfea Archerie created all the leather parts and applied the dyes. Together, we assembled the covers on the book bodies bound by Sophie, and I gilded the cover with gold leaf (using three different shades of 22-23k gold).

Finally, I made the wooden cases and covered them with fabric. We then attached the clasp and the repoussé leather medallion, dyed by Belfea and gilded by me.

All the illustrations were printed using our presses; they are fine art prints on velvet-finish paper. With Psyché, we enhanced about thirty of them with gold (using several shades of 22-23k gold) to match the appearance of the original artworks. These illustrations were then hand-glued and protected with tracing paper, also hand-glued by Psyché and me.

King of Gods has represented a significant part of my work in recent years. It has been a passionate and enriching adventure, in the true spirit of the Arts & Crafts movement and in the footsteps of the Kelmscott Press. Thank you to everyone who worked on this book.

Nous y parlerons de notre travail et présenterons cet exemplaire exceptionnel de Forgotten Gods, que nous avons réalisé ensemble, de manière artisanale.

Voici la version Arts & Crafts, entièrement réalisée à la main, de mon livre d'art Forgotten Gods. Nous l'avons imprimé avec Psyché, avec nos propres presses, sur du papier Vélin d'Arches. Enfin, j'ai fabriqué les coffrets en bois et les ai recouverts de toile. Nous avons pu fixer le fermoir et le médaillon en cuir repoussé et teint par Belfea, que j'avais également doré à l'or.

Toutes les illustrations ont été imprimées avec nos presses ; ce sont des tirages d'art fin sur du papier au fini velours. Avec Psyché, nous en avons rehaussé une trentaine à l'or (plusieurs nuances d'or 22-23 carats différentes) pour restituer le rendu des œuvres originales. Ces illustrations ont finalement été collées à la main, et protégées par un calque, également collé à la main par Psyché et moi-même.

Le King of Gods a représenté une partie importante de mon travail ces dernières années. Cela a été une aventure passionnante et très enrichissante, dans la pure tradition des Arts & Crafts et dans l'esprit de la Kelmscott Press. Merci à toutes les personnes qui ont travaillé sur ce livre.

Légendes rustiques by George Sand, completed English translation

Les Légendes rustiques is a collection of twelve creepy French folk legends gathered up and written down by George Sand and illustrated by her son, Maurice Sand, published in 1858. These stories were collected in the Berry region, but there are connections made to legends from Brittany and Normandy as well.

I came across a mention of the Rustic Legends a few years ago and realized there was no official English translation available, despite that George Sand is a very famous author. It turns out, Sand was such a prolific writer that much of her work has never been translated into English. I ordered a "translation" from Amazon and was disappointed to find that someone had just run the text through translation software without any editing or providing any cultural context. It was unreadable and I threw it in the trash.

I asked some fandom friends if they would be interested in trying to translate all twelve legends into English on our own. It has been a few years and each story has had several revisions and rounds of editing. This was a challenging translation project - there are many words in archaic French or not in French at all. Thanks to everyone who helped - I am really proud of the results here.

The purpose of this project is simply to make these twelve legends accesible to an English-reading audience. They have been available in the original French at Project Gutenberg for a long time. Use this post as a table of contents - each line will take you to a new story published on Tumblr. Sometimes they are creepy, they are often funny, and Sand's rambling style is cozy, making you feel like she is sitting right across a candle from you, telling you a story she once heard from someone else, a long time ago. Sondage : quels sites de fanfiction utilisez-vous en plus d'Archive of Our Own ?

Le retour de notre sondage ! Cette fois-ci, on se penche sur les sites de fanfiction utilisés conjointement avec Archive of Our Own.

On constate de fait que pour la majorité des participant.es, Ao3 n'est pas le premier site de fanfiction à avoir été utilisé, ni même l'un des premier site. Cela signifie donc que la plupart des participant.es ont découvert ao3 sur le tard, ce qui n'est pas particulièrement étonnant au vu du fait que les participant.es tendent à être familiers depuis longtemps avec la fanfiction.

Les participant.es semblent par contre être divisés en ce qui concerne le fait d'utiliser d'autres sites de fanfiction en plus d'Archive of Our Own. La moitié en utilise, l'autre moitié n'utilise que Archive of Our Own.

Dans la liste des plateformes de fanfiction utilisées conjointement avec Ao3, la plateforme qui ressort le plus est Tumblr, ce qui est sans doute en partie causé par le fait que la diffusion de ce sondage s'est principalement faite ici. Cependant, tout le monde sur Tumblr ne l'utilise pas pour lire de la fanfiction : cela reste une donnée intéressante à évaluer.

Today, I'm thanking The X-Files community for bringing me across a wonderful show-- its amazing cast and writers and fans-- and inspiring me to get back on my own creative hobbyhorse.
