Leprechaun films: 1 (1992), 2 (1994), 3 (1995), 4 In Space (1996), 5 in the Hood (2000), 6 Back 2 Tha Hood (2003), Origins (2014), and Returns (2018)
A magical being is inadvertently summoned to wreak havoc until he can retrieve his gold, no matter how much slaughter it takes.
Most of the films in this franchise have a decent balance between the comedy and gore elements which contrast nicely while varying the style of entertainment. They aren’t all the same as the third one twists the narrative into a more interesting dynamic by making the protagonist more powerful. There’s also some inventive magical lore involved and developed at times.
Some of it is inconsistent to say the least. The fourth film in particular is so bizarre that it’s irrelevant and the leprechaun is played out as an alien in it, despite still being Irish and cliché. It’s not the only sequel to get a little too silly to take seriously as a horror, or even a comedy horror, but others compensate in the opposite way by becoming too blood reliant.
Warwick Davis is the main actor for most of the title role and he has an odd kind of charisma about him, as some of the other great horror monsters do, the ones that can talk at least. What is occasionally a surprise is that some of the jokes, gags, and even limericks are actually pretty good, though they’re peppered into the general one-liners.
Despite the niche comedy in some sequels, Origins is probably the weakest as it doesn’t chronicle the actual origins as the title suggests, it relies entirely on the horror genre, but the leprechaun doesn’t talk so it may as well be any monster. In each film the characters are very variable in their reactions or inventiveness, even the smarter ones can show a profound lack of insight or sense.
Leprechaun: 5/10 -Can’t find a better example of average-
Leprechaun 2: 4/10 -It’s below average, but only just!-
Leprechaun 3: 5/10 -Can’t find a better example of average-
Leprechaun in Space: 3/10 -This one’s bad but there’s some good in it, just there-
Leprechaun in the Hood: 4/10 -It’s below average, but only just!-
Leprechaun Back 2 Tha Hood: 4/10 -It’s below average, but only just!-
Leprechaun Origins: 3/10 -This one’s bad but there’s some good in it, just there-
Leprechaun Returns: 4/10 -It’s below average, but only just!-
-The sorority house in Returns is named AU, the chemical symbol for gold, however the Greek symbol for u is Upsilon, the upper case of which is a capital y (Y).
-The clover patch in the original was planted on set and lit with green light. The four-leaf clover was so rare, a three-leaf one had to have an extra leaf glued on.
-In the third one Davis can briefly be seen without the horror make-up playing on one of the slot machines.

Ranked: Leprechaun
Yep. I watched every Leprechaun movie. And you know what? I'm extremely happy that I did. This series is an absolute blast. Maybe I can convince you of that. We'll see.
Leprechaun: Origins : The weird thing about this movie is that it isn't a bad film. It's just an extremely bad Leprechaun film. If you're unfamiliar, the Leprechaun is a mischievous, funny, quippy asshole. For whatever reason, they decided to make this version dead silent. So no more jokes. Also, it looks like a creature from The Descent. Just a gray goblin. That means we're now in creature feature territory, and I wouldn't really call this a slasher anymore. The movie is serviceable as a monster movie, but it doesn't do anything especially thrilling, and it kicks all the other movies right in the face by changing the main villain so drastically. Also, origins? Of who or what? The Leprechaun? It's set in modern day... I just don't...
Leprechaun Returns : Eeeeee, okay. This is the latest movie. They rerailed the derailment of Origins with jokes and quips and making it a direct sequel to the first film. And it's... pretty meh. You know how, when Jackie Earle Haley replaced Robert Englund as Freddy... It's not that it was a BAD performance so much as not the same? Feels off? Yeah, that. They're not recapturing the magic like they'd hoped. Not to mention the movie knows it's shitty, so it keeps winking at the camera, and I'm obstinately telling my screen, "no. No, I refuse to be in on the joke, shut up." The whole time. It had its moments, but they were few. This was mostly just me wishing Warwick Davis was back.
Leprechaun : The very first movie, yeah. We started with a fizzly little fart, truly. It's a movie that's shockingly boring. With a lot of battle of the sexes humor that had me screaming into my hands. Our heroes do a lot of nothing. And while Warwick Davis as the titular villain proves to be very memorable right out of the gate, they struggle to find things for him to do. Apparently this was a family movie that became an R-rated horror film via reshoots. There's a lot of him wandering around, finding a stranger, and doing something magically delicious to them. But those moments are a little too few and far between. Still, that pogo death tho.
Leprechaun: Back 2 Tha Hood : Leprechaun in the Hood was a surprising success for the series. So they did it again. But worse? Not sure why you'd do that, but they did. Look out for a lot of special effects failures, uncomfortably close close-ups, and thin characters being stupid when the plot requires it. The kills are even hard to enjoy because of all the continuity errors within them. But if you're looking for a bad time while imbibing your drug of choice with friends? Here it is.
Leprechaun 2 : They were still pretty sure everyone wanted to see a constantly arguing couple fight the Leprechaun, and that's a shame, but at least he gets to do more here. The cast of characters is much more colorful than the first film, with a lot more silly gags and over the top acting. Basically, it takes a couple of movies before I decide a franchise isn't for me, and this is the point in my journey when I saw this had immense potential. That it was beginning to live up to with this extremely wacky and fun villain.
Leprechaun in the Hood : This film is incredibly well rounded. You care about the characters. I know, what a shock! In my comedy horror series? The deaths hold weight. Leprechaun being out of his element and still managing to rule to roost is very amusing. Ice-T knew what movie he was in. There is a major misstep with a trans character; I want to be clear and warn about that. But that is genuinely the only thing the movie gets wrong. It handles the plight of inner city guys just trying to make it better than you'd expect. While also being openly so bad, it's good.
Leprechaun 4: In Space : You read that right. Leppy-poo can join the ranks of Pinhead and Jason Voorhees. Also, he's treated like an alien? Instead of a magical creature from folklore? And it's Aliens but if it was stupid? And there's a morally bankrupt scientist who talks in a kind of wink-wink German accent. Who also becomes a parody of Brundlefly. Throughout the course of the movie, the Leprechaun has a lightsaber, gets blown up, returns to life by crawling out of a penis, flattens someone's face cartoonishly with a pan, becomes giant, explodes in the vacuum of space... I love this. Okay? I love this.
Leprechaun 3 : The perfect Leprechaun movie. They figured out FINALLY that what we want is MORE LEPRECHAUN. More of him hamming it up. More mugging for the camera. Weirder, magical kills. Warwick Davis having the time of his life. MORE MORE MORE. And we got it. Set in Las Vegas, which is perfect considering all I just said. A city of excess for a film of excess. There are human villains, plucky heroes. A guy starts turning into a Leprechaun and eating too many potatoes. This scrumptiously dumb shit is what I live for with this series. This is the tiptop of cheesy horror comedy goodness.
So Leprechaun is one of my favorite slasher villains now. My respect for Warwick Davis for bringing him to such vibrant life is through the roof. Man's a genius. It was also stunning to watch someone with a disability do the majority of his own extremely physical stunts in these films. What a fucking king. I'd love to see him return to the series, and until he does, if more of these get made, I'll watch with... my expectations sadly lowered.

To everyone else: Favorite horror movies?
Tod: I have a lot of favorites but we'll settle on I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Terry: I don't really have a favorite but I really like Scream.
Valerie: Horror isn't my thing.
Billy: Sleepaway Camp. I don't know why, I guess its because it was my first horror movie.
Carter: Nightmare on Elm Street 2. I just find it the most entertaining.
Evan: Any of the Friday The 13th movies.
Tim: IT. I like the 1990 version (even though it's technically a mini series but whatever) and the 2017 versions.
Nora: Carrie. I know its basic but its a classic!
Kat: That movie where the dude kills the people on Valentines Day.
Rory: My Bloody Valentine?
Kat: Nobody asked you! But yes, My Bloody Valentine is my favorite.
Rory: Saw. Sure it makes me feel sick at some points but I still like it.
Kat: Your fucking disgusting.
Eugene: Child's Play. Specifically the first 3 and the last 2. Bride and Seed were just bad. (He secretly likes Bride).
Clear: The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. Those found footage movies are just more interesting to me.
Burke: Freddy vs Jason. I like it but i'm not a huge horror person. I'm more into comedy.
Ashley: Well if we're talking movies from when I was, like, alive, then my fave was Scream. But if we're talking now, I've come to like The Conjuring and the whole, like, universe thingy that comes with it.
Ashlyn: My taste is totally similar to Ashley's Scream was my go to now Spree is my go to. The Conjuring is, like, a little too scary though.
Lewis: Its either Halloween H20 or Tales from the Hood. Both are good but I prefer TFtH a little more.
Erin: I generally like all horror movies but my favorite is House of 1000 Corpses.
Perry: Thir13en Ghost.
Ian: Well if I have to pick a favorite, its going to be House of 1000 Corpses. Me and Erin have a fairly similar taste in movies.
Julie: The Purge. Its a cool concept.
Kevin: Leprechaun. I know it isn't the best movie franchise out there but its enjoyable to me.
Samantha: The Amityville Horror I guess.
Andy: Christine. Its kinda ironic considering I work on cars for a living.
Hunt: Wrong Turn. Something about all the blood and guts just makes me like it a lot.
George: Get Out. I know its stereotypical but I just generally think its a good movie. I also like Trick 'r' Treat.
Janet: Jaws. The sequels get worse and worse but who am I to care?
Lori: Cujo and Child's Play 2.
Candice: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Back then I thought it was weird and disgusting and I still do but now I have some appreciation for it.
Olivia: I don't care what Eugene says, Bride of Chucky is great and its a personal favorite of mine. I love Jennifer's Body too.
Dennis: The Babadook or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I don't have a favorite horror movie.
Peter: Silence of The Lambs.
Molly: I know its basic but you can't go wrong with Scream.
Nathan: Cabin in The Woods. No matter how many times I watch it I don't get bored.
(Can you tell I struggled?)

Httyd is definitely one of them, the music itself just strikes that nostalgic/comfort bone in my body, for some childhood favorites:
Robin hood: men in tights was a movie I had on literal repeat for months when I was 10, still love it with a passion.
Nims island: basically just my ideal life, it's a horrible shame that this movie isn't more well known because it fuelled my childhood whimsy to the max.
The White Pony: another obscure one
It starts out like a normal horse movie and then the main character Leah meets a leprechaun, who helps her befriend a unicorn who's horn has been taken by an evil something. (I need to rewatch it now I don't remember, maybe an ogre?) She has to train the "horse" to win a competition because the magic emeralds needed to stick the horn back on the unicorn's head is in the winner's cup. Very 90s love it.
Homeward bound: it's about a families 2 dogs and cat traveling across the country to track them down because the family moved away and left the pets at a friend's place while they got settled, but the pets worry they won't come back. I still cry at the end everytime
Last.but not least is:
Hoot: florida kiddos team up against capitalism to save an owl habitat. It's amazing
i'm just curious bc i'm watching How to Train Your Dragon and i always forget how happy and calm it makes me feel. i mean, i did name my cat after Toothless the dragon. but i also love Lion King, that's my Disney comfort movie. and my Ghibli comfort movie is Spirited Away. watching any of these when i'm in a foul mood or my anxiety is high always helps 🥰 but i watch them just for fun too, not only when i'm in a mood. what about you?

Once March arrives, the weeks leading up to St. Patrick's Day see a celebration of all things Irish or even just green, but for horror fans, we know it's a time to revisit the campy exploits of the Leprechaun franchise. Whether you're a devout fan of the franchise or entirely new to its exploits, SYFY will make sure that your holiday is filled with the series' deadly adventures by airing a marathon of the films on March 17th. From the original 1993 film to prequels to sequels, the marathon will include a variety of entries from all corners of the franchise. The event will kick off at 12 a.m. ET on March 17th. The original film sees the supernatural leprechaun (Warwick Davis) seeking vengeance against a family he believes has stolen his pot of gold. While the first sequel in the series also earned a theatrical release, subsequent sequels were released straight to video, up through 2003's Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood. Leprechaun Origins attempted to reinvent the concept, replacing the wise-cracking figure with a more monstrous creature, which earned a limited theatrical release. Leprechaun Returns aimed to channel the success of the original films, serving as a direct sequel to the debut installment, featuring Linden Porco in the title role. ️🍿🍿🍿🍀 #comiccon #spoilermagazine #news #losangeles #podcast #magazine #art #instagram #galaxy #film #tv #hollywood #feature #movies #fandom #graphicdesign #nyc #spoiler #comicconradio #comicbooks #leprechaun #warwickdavis #stpatricksday (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp2F-HFOqfx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

A Chucky vs Leprechaun movie
My fellow horror fans, I want to hear your opinions on this idea. Would a movie like this be just as popular as Freddy vs Jason? What would the motivation be for Chucky and the leprechaun to fight each other? But more importantly, who would win and why?
