Fluff, fluff everywhere... Since someone mentioned 2003 Leosagi in my last post (don't worry if you gave me ideas on that post/ask, I'm gonna do them.. some just takes time, but feel free to give me more of those, I'm always open for some new prompts to draw) my brain went to fluff mode and couldn't decide one of these to finish so I finished them all. Could you imagine the first one that came to mind was Leo somehow tripping/losing balance and Usagi being there to catch him? Yeaaahhh... Uh.. don't question my train of thought

And a good excuse to try some other coloring style if it sticks with me we'll see.

Ok, love the comic, not meaning to seem critical here, just a bit confused on how you're doing things.

I know you don't care much for Leosagi using Usagi Yuichi, so you're using Miyamoto, but I'm always unsure of how the name works. I was under the impression because of the way Japanese names work that Usagi was the family name and Yuichi and Miyamoto were their "first" names. But I've seen that switched around here and there and I'm not sure if it's from Western confusion or intentional. And the turtles in any iteration he's in always just refer to him as "Usagi" so of course that might add to any confusion anyone might have.

I noticed in the short Leosagi comic you posted that Usagi refers to Miyamoto as his "last name" after Leo uses it to address him, and im not sure if you meant it as last in terms of it comes after Usagi when spoken properly as "Usagi Miyamoto" or if you mean it as its his family name and Usagi is his name name, as it would be with the proper order for an American name.

You probably see it happening everywhere because it’s never once been straightforward, since even his first TMTN appearance lol. Further confusion probably comes, because as far as I know, Yuichi is a Japanese first name, while Miyamoto is a surname, so idk how they explain that over in the Netflix show.

Heck in a lot of Usagi’s TMNT appearances, his name was Usagi Yojimbo—which isn’t a last name at all, but a job title, basically meaning like hired bodyguard, but to be fair this was later corrected back to Usagi Miyamoto (Anglicized). It’s a mess.

SO, to answer your question. I cannot speak to Yuichi, or how they’ve done it for his show, but the original Usagi by Stan Sakai was modeled after Miyamoto Musashi, an actual real life samurai. So in the non-Anglicized comics, his family name is Miyamoto, as seen below.

I don’t blame you at all for being confused. I’ve been a fan of the character for years, and even still have to stop and think before I type cause I’m just goofy like that lol.

I have a confession to make

The reason my brain came up with the Leosagi Beauty and the Beast fic was because of Bowuigi.

Yup, that's right. When Bowuigi was booming everywhere, some people were making the Beauty and the Beast fanfiction of them. And I liked them so much that my brain decided to switch them with Leo and Usagi.

Obviously this thought process developed a while ago when Bowuigi was first starting to be big, but it didn't come back until I saw fan art of them again recently and then I remembered the mini Leosagi AU I made.

I'm very excited to have hit the halfway mark on this project 2. my birthday is later this month and I can do a little treat for myself if I want 3. it's my first day off in ages and I can spend my time luxuriantly and frivolously. Prompts taken from Year of the OTP; titles from Richard Siken "Litany in which certain things are crossed out."

Bunnyguard verse premise in three bullet points:

The cast of Usagi Yojimbo are embedded in the Hidden City

Draxum helped raised the turtles

Usagi gets hired as a bodyguard for Leo a month after the Krang invasion

January - "missionfic" - something other than the desperation Usagi does his best to not embarrass himself while Leo tries to do the same and fails. (the hero shifts from one foot to the other)

February - "mermaid au" - no one will ever want to sleep with you A first meeting sparks a series of increasingly dumb and desperate decisions. (the repeated image of the lover destroyed)

March - "mutual pining" - your heart, and it is painted shut We skip ahead in the timeline to the point where Usagi has decided he's going to just quietly pine forever and Leo stops for five seconds of self-examination and immediately starts planning his wedding. (the same big and little words, all spelling out desire)

April - "No, I'm not dating your brother" - There is something underneath the floorboards After a series of shenanigans, (some of) Usagi's misconceptions are corrected and Leo eventually gets a full night's sleep. (bruised and ruined, you poor sad thing)

May - "accidental pet/child acquisition" - Quit milling around the yard and come inside Usagi uses his day off to be with his family, including his son, and Leo takes a turn being the babysitter instead of the babysat. (Inside your head you hear a phone ringing.)

June - "you're not what I expected" - These terms from the lower depths After being chased by a demon, Leo and Usagi end up in the bones of both of their pasts, one after the other. (I have told you where I'm coming from, so put it together.)

July - "enemies to lovers" - recently we have had our difficulties Leo screws up, Usagi gets hurt, and they have to work together to fix it. (the moment of epiphany, in gold light)

August - "au of your choice" (free space) - close enough to see the blue rings Usagi fights a dragon and Leo has a bunch of minor problems happen all at once. (But it doesn't work, these erasures, this constant refolding of the pleats)

September - "hurt/comfort" - Are you there, sweetheart? Do you know me? An unexpected attack forces everyone involved to reexamine their circumstances. (Love always wakes the dragon and suddenly flames everywhere)

October - "identity shenanigans" - I guess I can tell you that now. Our heroes go on a date to a mob warehouse and find out things that were not exactly secrets but definitely unknown. (I walk through your dreams and invent the future)

November - "be careful what you wish for" - You want a better story. Who wouldn't? A confrontation, a choice, a number of things undone. (It should mean laughter, not poison.)

December - "forgiveness" - so maybe I wanted to give you something Our heroes reckon with their actions, and choose to try again. (I want more seats reserved for heroes. Dear Forgiveness, I saved a plate for you.)

I just love your opinions so much about samurai rabbit. I love your reason on why you gate it. I can't take it anymore with Leoichi. I keep seeing it in the leosagi tag. I then went to katanashipping tag and I got so fucking mad when I saw a post with Yuichi instead of Miyamoto

Second: my problem with Leoichi is kinda separated of the SRUC. There's people who really likes it and okay, their right and their taste, but then... the part of TMNT fandom who doesn't neither the comics or the show (and doesn't want to know) just take a character that exists for over 40 years and other completely different and mix their personalities as an oc JUST for the shipp

I dare to say Leosagi/Katanashipping became more popular with 2003 TMNT (I'm not sure, but considering that at that time neither 87' nor the comics had developed their friendship, it makes more sense for me, also IDW and 12' are not as popular too) and so the ROTTMNT fandom (and I'll say this fandom is specific cause' we're not the first to complain the tags, besides I can count on my finger the times I saw Yuichi being shipped with any other than Leon) looked at 03' and said "ugh, look how weird is their age gap, i'm gonna make then better!" and it pisses me off

When I had just watch 12' and started in the franchise, I saw Yuichi everywhere with Leon and thought "Wow, this rise character must really be popular, can't wait for when he appears" imagine my surprise finding SRUC

For a last example of how they disrespect Miyamoto and Yuichi, I remember these two ROTTMNT fics: one where Miyamoto was a teenager fighting in Battle Nexus and GENNOSUKE WAS THE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIM BECAUSE HE'S A MENACE AND GEN IS THE RESPONSIBLE ONE; the other where Yuichi was a super serious and edgy samurai and JEI, FUCKING JEI, WAS A VASSAL TO LORD HIKIJI

I hope you don't mind me making a post about it I just thought it would be easier to read it that way Than through the comments

What will Usagi's personality be like? Will it be like his series?

I did base usagi's personality and some of his morals on how he acts in the comics however here it is still quite different

Here usagi was quite sheltered from people growing up, therefore he has trouble expressing higher emotions even when he wants to, so he comes off to people as very quiet, blunt and even mean at times, the stories of him kicking people's asses in random battles don't help his image

However, despite seeming like a hard to get along person, he isn't one, he's very respectful of those around him, he Tries (and fails) to complement people and if you'll point out to him that what he said might have came off as mean in any way he'll immediately apologize and explain what he actually meant

So beasicly, he seems like an edgy mysterious shady asshole to everyone but in reality he's just akward as fuck

Will usagi's friends show up?

No, Not really but They will be a lot of easter eggs to them (I tried to put them in but it just didn't go well with some plot points, which is a shame because there great characters and deserve more love, I'll definitely put em in some one shots i'm writing when i'm bored though)

Will donnie be jealous of leo?

He's more worried for him than anything, he does not like usagi but it's less of jealousy thing and more of a protectiveness thing

I mean everywhere you go you'll hear a rumor about usagi, or a story of him absolutely wiping the floor with someone then disappearing and not talking to anyone

Then suddenly that guy starts talking with leo out of everyone, his (slightly stupid) dear brother that has abilities that could make him a target of bad people, and said brother doesn't even mention him and usagi are hanging out, they find out in a different way that I won't tell cuz it's a spoiler

But there is still some jealousy in donnie it's just in the background most of the time and not donnies main priority

This will be a bit confusing but the usagi I'm talking about is not Yuichi usagi, it's miyamoto usagi, they have quite different personalities and stories and I just thought that miyamoto usagi's fits a bit better both with my take (especially since it's based of comics) and leo's and his dynamic

SIDE 2B: ROUND 1: Leonardo Hamato (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)/Yuichi Usagi (Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles) VS Megaman (Megaman)/Pit (Kid Icarus)

Propaganda for Leonardo Hamato/Yuichi Usagi:

The ship mostly started because in older reiterations of TMNT there were crossovers with Miyamoto Usagi (ancestor of Yuichi Usagi), in these Miyamoto had a closer relationship with Leonardo than the other turtles so people began to ship them but since Rise of the TMNT never had a crossover episode the fandom started a ship between Leonardo and Yuichi Usagi since they were closer in age Either way it's one of my favorite ships in the fandom 😺

Despite being from unique works largely uninvolved, they've been a crossover ship for ages now and Usagi often finds himself getting the odd episode in TMNT titles to this day. Leo and Usagi in the 2003 series actually do interact in three episodes and are quite soft, before Usagi finally goes home. They are fellow warriors, one ninja and one samurai, who have faced hardship and show great respect to each other. Rise!Leo and modern Usagi are more popular now and haven't met at all, yet the fandom defaults to having Usagi as Leo's partner anyway. This Leo is much more brash and flamboyant, and Yuichi is quite naive in his own ways and prone to fucking up. They're disasters. It's pretty fun. Leosagi(2003) and Leosagi(Rise) are very different flavours so you will have to pick which one! Either is good tho.

Oh my god. This one came immediately to mind. Idk how big the ship is now, but I remember like seeing it everywhere back when Super Smash Bros Ultimate was like popular on Tumblr/Twitter. I think it was originally a crackship cause both of them were in Captain N (a cartoon), but it’s like a serious thing now. Literally all it took was one interaction between them (there’s like dialogue you can get if you do some combination when you play as Pit) which is just Pit gushing about Mega Man. It’s cute. And honestly kind of iconic

I've been seeing AroAce headcanons for Leo lately, and I found it really ironic that not one fan who likes that hc is going around harrasing people in their inboxes, like those crazy 'Leo is gay' stans who are having a beef with people who don't share their mindset.

That's what gays do to people😞 Guys, be careful with gay vibes❗

But seriously, I saw this headcannon once and didn't pay attention. Not everyone who sees Leo as gay imposes this on everyone and passes it off as canon. But it is among the fans of "Leo is gay" that there is a very high probability of meeting intolerant and inadequate. The fact is that many people in the fandom mistakenly consider Leo's homosexuality canonical. It would be the same with the "Leo is aroace" if it were considered canonical. So it's not about orientation.

Where are the most often inadequate and intolerant fans who impose their headcanon and pass it off as canon (from big to small): "Leo is gay", "Leosagi", "April is lesbian", "Capril - Cassandra + April", "Sunita + April" (Idk the name of the ship).

P. S. Keep in mind that this is MY experience. But I think there will be those who agree with me. Keep in mind that such a thing exists.

But once I came across a fan of "Leo is hetero" (yes, yes, don't be surprised😃) who imposed her headcanon and passed it off as canon, sometimes insulting fans of "Leo is gay" and fans of Leosagi. And that's bad too. But this is one such "Leo is hetero" fan that I've seen.

Leo is bisexual in my headcanon and I love Leosagi a little, which this crazy girl could not accept, didn't respect my headcanon, but at the same time imposed her own and asked to respect her headcanon. She passed off her headcanon as a canon, imposed it on others, but didn't provide proof, although I asked many times. In general, it's like with crazy fans of "Leo is gay". Except there's more than one person. Like that... I have posts about this person (January 2, 15, 16 2024).

In short, there are inadequate people everywhere. It's just that somewhere there are more of them, somewhere there are fewer of them, and somewhere the same number.

This is the beginning of a Future!Leosagi fic, loosely based on @meandtheyeehaws Leosagi, prior to them meeting (they get more similar as time goes on i swear). I have been writing this for the past two and a half hours. It is past four AM. I have work tomorrow.

“Okay Hana, just breathe with me, it’s going to be okay, all right?”

Usagi’s little sister heaved another breath. Her body was shaking, tears puddling in her eyes as though they were liquid themselves. Looking around at the nearby yokai, he realized she wasn’t the only one. Children, teenagers, adults alike clung to one another, sobbing. Mourning the loss of their home.

“Just in and out, like this, see? You’re doing great.”

The scream behind him rang loudly in his ears. He tugged at them for comfort before realizing they had fallen out of their band. In the midst of everything he hadn’t even noticed. He squeezed his paws into fists, a technique his Auntie had taught him, to ground himself.

Bile rose in his throat. Auntie.

His fists tightened, squeezing harder than she had probably anticipated would be necessary. He couldn’t think about her. Not when the wound was so fresh. Not with Hana right in front of him.

He could not break down now.

Not when the world was ending before his very eyes.

“You’re okay, Hana, I’m here.”

The stones lining the roof of the hidden city gave an unsympathetic CRACK in the background. The wails of dying yokai echoed around the underground. He felt the urgency of those around him tighten as more yokai flooded in, attempting to escape the same way they all were.

“I’m right here.”

The elevator to the overcity was a pitifully small thing. Used only as a last resort, it was an ancient piece of junk that couldn’t possibly carry more than ten yokai before it broke, much less the hundreds gathered around it. But it did not matter. The worthless pile of trash was the only hope left for everyone in the hidden city. Everyone alive, that was.

Usagi heard a whimper next to him, and he took Hana’s hand. She trembled and clung to her brother’s leg, terrified of the lack of space she suddenly had. Terrified because her auntie, her friends weren’t there with her. She sniffled, squeezing Usagi’s leg even tighter. He rubbed circles into her paw pads, trying to soothe her.

“Shh… Hana, I’m right here, okay! We’re almost to the overcity; we’ll be safe there.” Hana looked up, her gaze a pool of grief. Usagi’s heart panged. “It’ll be an adventure, just the two of us! We’re finally going to the overcity, just like you’ve always wanted!”

Usagi tried to keep his voice as light and airy as he could, but he knew Hana wasn’t convinced. “But I-I wanted Aun-Auntie to c-come…” She tripped over her words as her upper lip trembled. Usagi placed his paw on her head, scratching it lightly. He smiled weakly.

“Me too. But you have me, and I won’t leave you.”

Suddenly, the shrill CREAK of rusted elevator beams echoed around the caverns, its ear-piercing sound the song of hope sung by the gods themselves. Yokai everywhere crowded around him, and Usagi tried to move, tried to move forward, but the familiar weight of his younger sister was cemented onto his leg. He panicked, “Hana, let go. We have to get to the elevator, now.”

But Hana wasn’t moving. Usagi wasn’t sure she could hear him. She had been violently shivering, sobs wracking her chest. Her face was hidden away from him. Something in Usagi broke, and the realization dawned on him that he couldn’t leave the hidden city. He couldn’t leave because he would have to leave Hana, a fate worse than dying.

And as screaming yokai filtered in around him, Usagi knelt to the ground and pulled his sister in close for one, final hug. Their breathing synced up, their heartbeats becoming one. With a shattered heart and a broken spirit, he thought that this wasn’t such a bad way to die after all. Here, with his sister, he could pass in peace.

A scream, a heartbreaking, manic scream whipped through Usagi’s ears like claws on a chalkboard. Still curled around his sister, he looked up at the source of the sound, at the top of the elevator. His stomach plummeted.

A kappa was on the roof of the elevator, leaving over the rail as it descended, so far over that Usagi was scared he would fall. His scream was one filled with sadness and terror, his gaze pinned on the ground below him. Before the kappa had any chance of reaching the ground, however, his voice was drowned out by thunder.

No, not thunder. The cracking of rocks directly overhead.

Usagi went rigid.

Everything went quiet, the shock of it all blocking out every noise.

In his shock he tried to get up but couldn’t there was something on his leg

and he couldn’t move and there were too many people around and they were all

heading towards the kappa who got off the elevator and collapsed sobbing and tried to run

off away from the crowd before he was trampled and he fell because suddenly there was a rock in front of him

on top of him the rock was on top of him

Breathe, Usagi.

In, out. Like the river by the farm.

Squeeze your fists, ground yourself.

You’re okay.

Usagi was okay.

He shook his head, fighting off the shock. The kappa wasn’t the only one who was in danger, Usagi had to focus on that. He had to focus on his surroundings first. He squeezed his fists and turned to look at Hana once more. She was still on his pant leg, holding on for dear life. Good. At least one of them had something reliable to ground themselves with.

The rocks thundered in the background. Usagi felt his breath hitch, realizing there was no hope left for either of them. With his last will, he found it in himself to smile once more for his sister.

“It’ll be okay, Hana. Everything is going to be all right. I’m not going anywhere.”

A thunderous CRACK and a choir of screams indicated that his last remaining moments of life were fleeting.

The last thing he saw before his world went dark was the terrified face of his little sister, holding onto his left leg.

And the world ended.

��Or so he had thought.

Usagi’s head spun as though on an axis. His vision was fuzzy and out of focus; he couldn’t feel any part of his body. He felt paralyzed, frozen in place.

He coughed, a warm, dark crimson liquid accompanying his airway. It spilled over his eyes too, like warm honey he might have on toast. His chest ached. He couldn’t feel his body.

The adrenaline pumping through his body numbed the pain, but Usagi was aware of its presence. How could he not be, with the blood pooling around his head growing by the second? Everything ached. His body, his chest, his heart all ached from pure numbness.

It took everything in him to channel enough energy to use his muscles. He stretched his neck and shoulders, whimpering in pain. Eventually he attempted to move his arms, to no avail. He could feel them, but they felt so far away, as though they were in another plain of reality, one Usagi was not yet familiar with. His legs felt very similarly.

Except for his left leg.

No, his left leg didn’t feel distant or numb.

It didn’t feel like anything.

With all the adrenaline he could possible muster, Usagi lifted his head, momentarily fogged by dizziness. He heaved his torso upwards, crying out in pain. When he had settled, he looked forward and froze.

A rock, a thousand times the size of him, towered before him. Its granite bleakness was nothing like the shimmering sky he had grown so used to seeing. It was jarring.

He looked down. The rock had flattened his left leg, completely demolishing it to the point of obliteration. Usagi’s stomach plummeted. He felt tears brim in his eyes and creep down his face. Loosing a limb was nothing like loosing a loved one, but it was a part of Usagi. Now, he could never get it back.

Speaking of loved ones, Usagi turned side to side, looking for Hana. If the giant stone had managed to only snag his leg, surely she would be alive. The gods could have spared her; her last look of stricken terror would no longer be her final moments. As she clung to his leg—

His left leg.

Usagi felt the world go silent once more.

He couldn’t hear his own screams, only his aching chest. He didn’t register falling backwards, only the way that he could feel liquid pooling on a hard surface below himself. Bile rose in his throat, refusing to stay inside this time, accompanied by a never ending stream of blood that soaked his fur.

Hana.

His sister, the light of his life, was gone.

Usagi screamed and cried for what seemed like an eternity. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair, nothing was fair about this situation. Everyone had died. Auntie had died. Hana was dead. And Usagi knew, even in his state of deliriousness, a part of him had died too.

Later, much later, Usagi heard a shuffle behind him.

He couldn’t speak; too much blood clotted his throat. He couldn’t move to signify he was alive and get help, so he didn’t. He was paralyzed where he was, helpless to watch as a green yokai wearing a blue mask limped forward.

Wait.

Recognition flared through Usagi, a burning, dangerous thing. This yokai was the kappa on top of the elevator, the kappa that had destroyed the last of the hidden city. The one who killed Hana, but not him with her.

This was the yokai responsible for all this pain, and he was the one to survive.

Usagi could barely register the kappa’s cries of anguish and sorrow, suddenly too overwhelmed by rage to feel a morsel of sympathy. This yokai was a villain. He ruined the world, had killed so many people. He was worse than any villain Usagi had ever encountered.

He deserved to die.

As the kappa limped away, Usagi promised himself that he would not leave forever. As a samurai, it was his job to protect the world from evil. His heart hardened, his eyes so full of blood that he was seeing more red than not. Trying to go after him proved to be unsuccessful, as he was still trapped under the broken roof of his home. He grimaced, knowing what he had to do.

I am sorry, Hana. I don’t want to abandon you like this, but I am not sure I have much choice. I am sorry I cannot stay.

Usagi pulled out his katana from its hilter.

With all my heart, I love you.

As he sliced though his own flesh and bone, Usagi screamed. His gasps of anguish echoed around him, but to no avail. No one came.

He tore his right sleeve off and tied it around where his leg… ended in a makeshift tourniquet. Usagi opened his mouth and breathed. The air tasted like iron and salt, smelled like granite and rust. But it felt like purpose.

Usagi Yuichi had one goal at the start of the apocalypse: to end the life of the kappa who had caused so much suffering, or die trying.

For his family and the world, Usagi had to be a hero.

if you’re still here thanks for reading. yeah i’ll probably finish this at some point but the whole story will be like one giant oneshot like Midnight Blue and Five Cents because that’s my favorite type of fic, but it’ll be a WHILE before that happens. I just need to get this bit out there bc if not loosing that much sleep was for nothing.
