Anyways, I’ve been thinking about the Masters Eight tournament and I’m still disappointed with how it was handled

And I know you don’t care much for the Anime, but just hear me out about how I think it should’ve went

The competitors should’ve been Ash, Iris, Cynthia, Diantha, Steven, Alder (not totally sure about him), Wallace, and Lance (they’re not ranked in this order). With Leon being the final challenge to the winner

I hated that Leon was a competitor because it just guarantees that whoever he faces is automatically going to lose

But yeah, I just think if it’s the MASTERS Eight then it should be the strongest trainers. Which are the Champions both present and past, hence Wallace and Alder being here

I’m kicking Alain out because he just felt like he was chosen as a competitor at the last minute when he had no true reason to join the PWC. Plus he ain’t a Champion

Another thing I was annoyed with was the Battle Field, like if you look at the Kalos League battle field in the Anime, it actually looks cool and had different battle fields. It wasn’t a generic rectangular box. The Masters Eight should’ve at least had a nicer looking battle field than…what they gave us

Last thing I want to rant about, but ALL battles should’ve been 6vs6 and not 3vs3 in the first round. The battles would’ve been so much better to watch if they were full battles

But yeah, it would’ve been a great send off if Ash had competed with the Champions from each Region, won the tournament, and then won the title of World Champion from Leon as the final challenge

The way they handled the Masters Eight was smth else man it was such a cool concept but the way they executed it is just cnmdndjd😭😭

It would've been so cool if it was like that bc for one, why is Alain there, and two you are so goddamn right abt Leon like he's always gonna win against anyone, plus I'm hella fucking salty over the Diantha vs Leon fight as you can see owo

But real why is Alain there😭 for fanservice??? He and Ash didn't even fight and you can tell I'm also salty over that Lumiose Conference battle lmfao the way I started hating Alain and Zard X bc of that yes I'm that petty— also why the fuck is he a rank higher than Iris💀

I do like that it's the Champions for the Masters Eight tho, it checks out bc they're the strongest of each region, but w Alder, as much as I love him, isn't he retired? What I always picture was the Champions plus Raihan, bc iirc, I think in the manga?? I'm not sure but I read that Leon always had to figure out a new strategy against Raihan bc he's always close to beating him, so if it's not Alder, I pitching in Raihan

So my ideal Masters Eight is Lance, Steven, Wallace, Cynthia, Iris, Diantha, Ash, and Raihan; Leon then being the final boss to see if the current number 2 can be number 1

Speaking of the M8 y'know, how does the ranking system of theirs even work? Cause yeah there's still the Ultra trainers, the top two of those being Raihan and Drasna. What I'm saying is,, should the competitors battle within Wyndon Stadium to be counted in it or do they have some sort of trainer card registration thing that automatically knows how many battles you had and how much you improved as a trainer? Idk bc I haven't watched the anime since hahaha

But yeah with the stadium and the battlefield right it's so goddamn plain😭 what I had in mind that would've been more of a challenge was smth similar to Kalos' field but also having control of the weather, like, if it's the ultimate challenge, then the Champions/M8 should be able to adapt depending on the weather of the field, whether it be raining, sunny, hailing, or if it's a sandstorm, to see how resilient they truly are, how they can make a disadvantage into an advantage, it would've been cool to see ig

Also as much as I despise all those "this is Ash's ultimate team" videos in yt bc they're basically all his aces, for this, I really wished he could've used all his aces because come on, you're gonna challenge the different champions of different regions with a team you just trained? Like he really won against Steven and Cynthia with a recent team, and ik he had training but c'mon man, the M8 aren't pushovers, might as well bring your strongest mons to have a fighting chance against them (I remember someone actually writing a fic abt that, of Ash using his previous pkmn, using a different team depending on the champion he faced and it was really dope cnmdnd).

But yeah, it's just,, well it could've been better but hey hahah

My Critque of Pokemon Masters 8 and how I would have done things differently.

I've finally watched Ultimate Journeys and I feel now is the time to provide my honest feedback on what was supposed to be the greatest arc of the whole anime but in reality was a bit half cooked. So let's break this down into points.

Leon: I'm just going to say it, I don't like Leon, i don't like his personality, his "rivalry" with Ash is none-existent, the way his power scaled against the other trainers like Alain & Diantha basically makes out he's an unbeatable god, his ace Charizard is a poor, overused choice with too many crippling weaknesses and the attempts to humble him by making out he's just like Ash only highlight the fact he was funded by Chairman Rose.

Ash should have used his old Pokemon: For what is supposed to be Ash's finest hour the fact he only used the Pokemon he'd caught in Journeys was rather underwhelming. I know we were going to see some of them in Aim to be a Master but would you rather see Charizard, Sceptile etc battling against the best in the Pokemon world or just stopping Team Rockets antics?

The background music fails to build tension, suspense or energize: Now I did like the remix of the original Pokemon theme in the final battle with Ash and Leon, but it was only for the last few seconds. It really should have played throughout the whole Charizard vs Pikachu fight. But the music used throughout the rest of the battle's really doesn't suit the circumstance, it almost trivialize's them. Considering the great remix's used throughout the first 13 seasons, such as remixs of the Hoenn Elite 4, Kanto Champion and Johto Champion and even anime original tracks were capable of building excitement and really hyping up the battles. Pity that couldn't be done here.

Alain- The way Alain was handled was poor. Why the writers decided he shouldn't battle Ash is just bizarre and it also seems they forgot who the hell he was apart from the fact he use's a Mega Charizard X. He was badly handled, made no prior appearences to his frankly rushed defeat at the hands of Leon and was made to look pathetic just so the writers could hype Leon up even more. As you can probably tell, I don't have to many nice things to say, but i will add, I enjoyed Iris and Cynthia's battle and the basic concept is good, just poorly handled. So how would I improve it you ask? 1. Establish the rules of the Master's 8 beforehand. The rules would be the same as the Pokemon League: Levels are not set at 50 or 100, Legendary/Mythical Pokemon are allowed, Pokemon gain EXP when battling and the reigning monarch chooses the battle structure for the Masters 8. With said tournament taking place once a yeat. 2. Change the structure. Instead of Leon taking part and making all his battles super predictable, he will be the final boss awaiting the winner of the tournament. 3. Change the episodes continuity. So, here goes. Alain beats Diantha in the first Master's 8 we see in Flash of the Titans. Then, when Ash goes to Kalos to see Clemont & Bonnie, we hear Alain has become Kalos champion and that Diantha is retiring to work on her movies. Then, when Ash goes back to Oak's lab in Friends, Rivals, Lend Me Your Spirit!, Diantha spars with him instead of Paul (more on that later), Diantha also get's a position as a guest commentator alongside Oak. On to Paul. First, we'll see him leaving the Masters 8 in Flash of the Titans before we see him again at the next tournament ranked 9th. And since we have another spot open, Brandon will also be taking part. Finally, instead of rushing a battle at the end of Curtain up! Fight the Fights! We get a nice Q&A section with participants taking questions from the audience. 4. Change the battling order. The order of the battles will look like this. 'Paul' v Brandon 'Ash' v Alain Iris v 'Cynthia' Steven v 'Lance' Followed up with Ash v Paul and Lance v Cynthia, then it's the same as it is in normal Ultimate Journeys. 5. Ash get's to use his old Pokemon. Here is what his teams look like: Greninja, Lucario, Gliscor Pikachu, Charizard, Infernape, Krookodile, Snorlax, Melmetal Pikachu, Dragonite, Lucario, Sceptile, Heracross, Muk And his final team is the same as. Here is what the other altered teams look like: Paul Electivire, Magmortar, Aggron Electivire Z-Move, Urasring, Garchomp, Froslass, Torterra, Drapion Brandon Regirock/Steel/Ice Alain Mega-Charizard X, Tyrantiar, Bisharp Cynthia v Lance Mega-Garchomp, Roserade, Togekiss, Kommo-o, Lucario, Gastrodon Steven Swap Aggron for Skarmory Lance Gyarados, Dragonite, Mega-Salamance Mega-Gyaradoes, Dragontie, Aerodactyl, Hydreigon, Salamance, Kingdra And so, that is how I would I fix the Masters 8, would what you do to change it?

Thoughts about the Masters 8

Iris and Ash are Siblings™️

Cynthia and Diantha are girlfriends and unofficially adopted Iris.

Lance is the serious uncle.

Leon is the cool, but also goofy big brother to them. (Hop surely thinks so)

Alain is like that weird but mysterious cousin who's secretly a softie.

Cynthia: I heard you and Wallace are divorced?

Steven: We're not divorced, Cynthia.

Lance and Leon race on their Dragonite and Charizard. It always ends in a tie, though.

Alain joins in next race, and another tie happens.

At this point, Lance is just pissed with the ties.

Ash joins with his Dragonite.

Cynthia joins with Garchomp and wins as Diantha and Iris cheer for her.

Steven once mentions that he and Alain clashed with Mega Rayquaza, and Iris is instantly at his side clinging onto every word.

He shows her a Garchompite, Charizardite X and Y, Salamencite and his own Metagrossite.

Iris is basically vibrating with excitement as he talks about the Dragon type Pokemon that are capable of Mega Evolution.

Steven becomes the cool, but weird, but still cool uncle.

Ash shows them his Z-Cyrstals that he got during his travels from Alola, even showing them some Z-Moves in a battle.

Steven starts rambling and fanboying at the sight of a Steelium Z.

Lance 🤝 Leon. Cape bros.

The whole group (minus Steven and Ash) thought Alain was hella fucking weird.

Lance: Excuse me, but my niece asked for no pickles.

Iris: I'm your niece?

Lance: You are now.

Iris: Cool! Does that make Claire my aunt?

So, I dunno how many of you follow the Pokemon anime, but for those of you who do, you know that the Master’s Eight Tournament started. When I first saw it, I was okay with most of the choices...

But I just can’t stand seeing Alain there. I would have honestly preferred literally anyone else.

Alain just annoyed me because of every time you saw him during X and Y (which wasn’t much) it’s this moody monologue. Okay, yeah. I get it. You messed up. But just...ugh. I dunno. His character just bothered me.

And then the way they just had him show up at the end and take the League win from Ash. Ash should have won the Kalos League, and I will stand by that to the death. But it was like the writers decided to ignore all the growth he’d had during the whole season and made him lose with a rookie mistake the likes of which he really shouldn’t have made at that point with that level of development.

I remember it infuriated me so much that I didn’t watch the rest of the season and I completely ignored Sun and Moon. I still haven’t.

So...yeah. I don’t like Alain, and I feel like he doesn’t deserve to be in the Master’s Eight. By the time we get to this point in the pokemon fic, you can bet he’s not going to be a part of it.

Instead, it would look a little something like this (expand if you’re okay with spoilers):

1st: Leon

2nd: Amy

3rd: Cynthia

4th: Steven

5th: Lance

6th: Ash

7th: Diantha

8th: Paul or some other rival that’s not Alain.

Honestly, I feel like Cynthia is way tougher than Leon, but as this fic is supposed to follow the anime more than the games, Leon keeps the top spot. He just won’t be the “undefeated champion.” The number one spot will have been passed around between the various champions before settling in this order just before the tournament.

Iris’s inclusion in this feels kind of iffy to me as well, so I’m more than likely going to end up replacing her. It’s just not set in stone with who yet.

Journeys Master 8 Predictions (with Teams):

Leon (Aegislash, Haxorus, Dragapult, Rhyperior, Rillaboom, and Charizard) vs Alain (Chesnaught, Weavile, Bisharp, Metagross, Tyranitar, and Mega Charizard X)

Winner: Leon

Reason: A lot of Journeys has been hyping up Ash vs Leon, and for that to happen, Leon would need to beat Alain.

Lance (Charizard, Aerodactyl, Hydreigon, Salamence, Dragonite, Gyarados) vs Diantha (Gourgeist, Aurorus, Tyrantrum, Goodra, Hawlucha, and Mega Gardevoir)

Winner: Lance

Reason: He has Hydreigon and, therefore, deserves to win.

Cynthia (Lucario, Milotic, Togekiss, Roserade, Spiritomb, and Mega Garchomp) vs Iris (Haxorus, Dragonite, Hydreigon, Druddigon, Aggron, and Archeops)

Winner: Iris

Reason: Since Cynthia is Mega Evolving her Garchomp, she has a Speed disadvantage against Iris' Haxorus and Hydreigon, giving Iris an edge in the battle. Plus, it would show how much Iris has grown.

Steven (Aggron, Armaldo, Cradily, Claydol, Skarmory, and Mega Metagross) vs Ash (G-Max Gengar, Dragonite, Dracovish, Sirfetch'd, Pikachu, and Mega Lucario)

Winner: Ash

Reason: Plot Armor.

Reason: While Leon winning would make sense, Lance has many Pokémon who can beat Leon's team.
