BACKGROUND

Eli was born and raised in Nightrest. His family had a long history of being in front of the camera. His mother was a model while young and still does a campain here and there to relive her glory days, and his dad was an actor. Nothing too big to make him real famous, but enough that he made great money and still gets checks in the mail. 

Tale as old as time, his parents met in the industry and fell in love. Then she got pregnant and his parents didn’t think hollywood was a good place to raise a kid so they retired and moved to a small town a few states away. 

Elijah had everything he wanted, money, status and women. He got a gig doing the weather in town which gave him the attention he needed. He didn’t really need the money but he enjoyed the job and when he was out on dates noone wants to hear that someone’s unemployed. 

Eli couldn’t even count how many women he’s been with over the years. Some he called “girlfriend” some not so much, but he never had too much of an emotional interest in any of them and couldn’t imagine having a relationship like his parents. If he knew what was good for him he would get snipped.

Aspen Challenge: San Diego Unified students celebrate their solutions to community problems

Three high school teams from the San Diego Unified School District will advance to this year’s national Aspen Challenge finals in Colorado, next month.

The Aspen Institute is an international nonprofit organization that provides education and resources to students so they can research solutions to some of their community’s most critical problems. The institute holds competitions around the world, challenging teams to develop their strategies for issues ranging from immigration to homelessness and the mental health of children. The challenge came to San Diego for the first time this year.

Back in February, 150 students from 19 campuses across the county chose their topics and began the 10-week challenge, delivering their final presentations before a panel of expert judges earlier this month. They are supported by coaches and community mentors during the process.

The winning teams were from Madison and Mira Mesa high schools and the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts.

•    Madison High School’s project “SPORK” created multiple pathways for reducing the consumption of single-use plastics in their community by improving the recycling habits of their peers through a public awareness campaign.

•    Mira Mesa High School, team “SGWB (Student Guide to Well-Being)” established inclusive spaces for their peers to have honest conversations about mental health by designing a student-driven web platform filled with resources and community support.

•    San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts identified the major causes of absenteeism among their peers, including a lack of transportation access and unaddressed mental health concerns. Their solution, “LEO (Learning Excellence Outreach),” aimed to target both by adding buses to their school’s fleet and forging partnerships to bring psychology and social work graduate students to their schools to begin working with their student body.

The Voices United team from Crawford High School presented their own solution to chronic absenteeism, with a long list of data showing that the average chronically absent student has missed 28.5 days of school.

The team Voices United from Crawford High School researched data on chronic absenteeism.

The Crawford team determined many students miss school simply because they can’t speak English.

Their strategy included the use of a pocket translator that works in 150 languages for immigrant students and their families.

“Because they don’t feel connected in school, like they can’t communicate, that could be a big problem. Imagine they give you homework (and) you don’t speak English. How are you going to figure that out when you can’t even communicate with your teacher?" said Jhoanna Duarte, 16, a sophomore with the Crawford team.

Dominic Medlin, 19, a Crawford senior added, “Parents and students need to communicate more so they can talk to each other in school and then at home.”

Midnight Cinderella: Insecure (Giles, Louis, and Leo).

Giles:

*Giles would notice it before Y/n would bring it up. However, at first, he didn’t know that the princess was feeling insecure. Giles would notice the way the princess would look at herself in the mirror, and how she would try to make herself seem smaller.

*He tried to make Y/n feel better without bringing up that he knows. Giles knew he had to be gentle about it, seeing how it was a sensitive matter.

*"That dress looks so beautiful on you.”

*"I was in town earlier and these flowers reminded me of your eyes.”

*Lots of kisses and hugs.

*Late at night, when Y/n was asleep in his arms. Giles would say: “You have nothing to be insecure about. You're breathtakingly beautiful. Everything about you is perfect. If you are feeling insecure, come to me and I will help you.”

*What Giles didn’t know was that Y/n was somewhat awake and heard everything. She smiled feeling, much better.

Louis:

*Louis noticed that Y/n was feeling a little down. So while the two of them had free time at his mansion, Y/n and Louis were drinking some tea in the garden, so Louis brought it up.

*"You’ve been looking a little down lately. Everything okay?” the duke asked as he sat down his teacup.

*The princess sighed as she sat down her cup and looked down at her lap. Louis noticed a small tear escape from her beautiful e/c eyes. He scooted closer to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder, rubbing it soothingly.

*Slowly, Y/n explained what she was feeling. Louis listened carefully and pulled her closer to his side.

*"What is something I did?” Louis asked.

*Y/n shook her head, “No. You always manage to make me feel better. I just get like this and I don’t know why.”

*Louis would give a soft smile before kissing the top of her head. He would further explain to her everything he loves about her.

*He would spend the rest of the day, and his life letting Y/n know how beautiful and special she is. Especially to him.

*It hurt him to know that Y/n was insecure. He was also a little confused because he always thought she knew how beautiful she is.

i just watched this new netflix film 'beauty' which i think is loosely based on whitney houston & robyn crawford's hidden love story (if you guys didn't know about them, google them please, they had such a beautiful unconditional love for one another 🥺, also they're another leo x sag combination like kaylor!), well anyway it made me think about kaylor (as one does).

i kept thinking about how much taylor and karlie's love story was never in taylor's plan you know, if we really think about it? i mean i know that we all know karlie's the reason why taylor moved to nyc, but i don't think we could imagine how much of an impact karlie really was/is to taylor? 1989's main character (aside from taylor of course) is new york city. she made that city hers with 1989. would 1989 even be the 1989 we know today if she didn't move to new york? what if she didn't meet karlie in vsfs, and taylor went on with her life moving to london instead, who would be the taylor swift we know and love today?? isn't it serendipitious how each decision we make, leads to a completely different life? and taylor chose new york/karlie, hence 1989 golden era happened. even if majority of 1989 isn't literally about karlie, the aesthetic, the era, the vibe, the imagery, the essence of 1989.. is very much karlie and how it's the result of taylor meeting her at such an unexpected time or place? it's so beautiful! i don't like crediting anyone else when it comes to taylor's music, because for me everything is hers and hers alone, but we can't also deny how karlie's influence on taylor led us to 1989 and all the following albums! ah! and now, how will taylor promote 1989 TV? i just can't imagine 1989 without karlie because it literally happened because of her and taylor's meeting.

Jack came to the FBI after years of Navy training, eventually earning himself the nickname ‘the Guru’ when he later became the head of the Behavioral Science Unit. He has strong morals, but will often do whatever he deems necessary to save lives, a trait which inevitably led to the downfall of Will Graham after pushing him too far.

In the midst of the Chesapeake Ripper resurfacing, Bella Crawford (Jack’s wife) was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Initially she tried to hide this from him, but they soon came to terms with the illness together, with assistance from Dr Hannibal Lecter. The psychiatrist became a friend and trusted confidant for quite some time, right up until Jack finally saw the truth that Will had desperately been trying to make him see all along ; Hannibal was the serial killer they’d been searching for.

Jack is loyal and steadfast, determined to catch his man. He doesn’t hold back unless the situation desperately calls for restraint; otherwise he is very open with his opinions and willing to argue them. He gives those with clear talent and drive a chance to prove themselves, often allowing FBI trainees to take on extra curricular cases and investigations to push them forward. This did backfire once, however, when trainee Miriam Lass disappeared after joining the Chesapeake Ripper investigation. She was later found, alive, but traumatised and missing an arm.

He recognizes his mistakes and owns up to them after the heat of the moment is gone, often feeling guilty for his tunnel vision. He wants to keep monsters off the streets, but sometimes his methods end up hurting others along the way.

When Bella passed away, all Jack had left was his teenage daughter, Grace (as written by @hvbris​). In an act of mercy, after so much suffering and Bella choosing to hold on for her family’s sake, Jack gave her an overdose of morphine to let her be at peace.

When Hannibal and Will disappeared after the death of the Red Dragon, Jack finally turned his back on them and the Behavioral Science Unit, choosing instead to focus on his daughter and a quiet life.

Y/N didn’t want to believe Mary, it didn’t feel right. It just didn’t feel right to her that he would’ve done such thing. Sure Sebastian was a wild one and if Mary had told her that he had been kicked out of the band because he threw himself from a window into a pool, she would’ve believed more than an overdose scenario. She had never seen him even doing any drugs in the time she’d been with him. Sure he drank like the pirate but it didn’t look very different from what her mates used to do back at university. No, it didn’t feel right.

      - You alright, honey? - she put a hand on her shoulder, lightly shaking it to bring her out of her mind. Y/N turned to face the redhead which had a tense worried expression on her face. - C’mon, me, Fred, and the new photographer are going out for a very long, very expensive dinner. Why don’t you come with us?

     - Oh, I don’t wanna bother. - she gave her a shy smile but Mary was having none of it. She got up and stormed to her wardrobe, opening it and looking through her clothing. After a while, she stopped and turned to the side with a confused look on her face. - What now?

    - You have no dinning dresses. - the redhead was almost in horror. She had come from a high class family herself where changing for dinner was still a very alive practice. Y/N, however, was either at the office having grilled cheese for dinner or in her pjs eating pasta for dinner. There was no high class to the whole experience unless she had a work meeting. - You’ll have to take one of mine.

    - I can take the black dress you got me. - Y/N walked over to her, grabbing the hanger with the Burberry dress. Mary nodded no and placed the hanger back before taking her hand and walking to her bedroom were Fred was watching Mad Men. She’d rather be watching Mad Men with Fred than discovering what to wear. 

    - Y/N is coming with us to dinner. - Mary said, mindlessly walking to her wardrobe and pulling some hangers with what looked like very expensive dresses. Fred nodded and returned to watching Mad Men with Y/N who had sat by the edge of the bed. 

The red headed placed the hangers by the door and started to look at the dresses before she went to grab Y/N, ignoring her moans about watching TV and putting her in front of the mirror. She placed a burgundy dress in front of her and furrowed her brows, cocking her head to the side. 

    - Maybe if we curl the hair? - she said, taking the dress from her. - I grew up with only brothers so they never let me do their hair or pick their outfits.

    - I’d run, Y/N. - Fred mouthed before being hit in the face by a pillow thrown by Mary who gave him a sly smirk. - But hey, first night Mary isn’t looking at cases while dinning. 

Y/N would never admit it to herself but Mary was the picture perfect woman she wanted to be. Not only was she beautiful, always polished and rich, she was also a smart Yale graduate lawyer. With that said, she didn’t really mind her doing her makeup and hair for the night. She got dressed in the burgundy dress from before and took a good look at the mirror. It felt nice to look this beautiful after today, with her hair done, eyeliner so sharp it looked like it had been done using a knife and lips matching the dress colour. The only bad thing were the heels she could barely hold herself into. 

She was now sat on her bedroom, waiting for Fred and Mary while watching some reruns of B99 in her TV when she heard a knock. Finally, she was starving. She grabbed her purse, put her phone and debit card in it just in case, and walked to the door, opening it to see Sebastian instead of the couple. He himself was also not expecting to be greeted with the sight he was greeted with. 

   - Where are you going dressed like that? - he asked, shamelessly scanning her from head to toe. 

   - I’m going to dinner with Mary and Fred. The Eiffel Tower Restaurant. - she replied, exiting the room and closing the door behind them. - How are you doing?

  - I’m okay, thank you. Just wanted to come check on you to see if you needed anything for your article.

  - Actually, when I return, if you could, I’d like to ask you some questions. - she said, kind smile on her lips as Mary and Fred exited their room, motioning for her to come with them. - I’ll see you in a few hours. 

She joined the couple in the taxi who took them to the restaurant. Everything looked so pristine, so beautiful and symmetrical. She almost felt bad the tab was on the bad, but yet again Fred had said the dinner was almost a meeting with the new photographer. Speaking of which, they reached their table where a man that looked straight out of the 50s with beautifully slick blonde hair and perfectly tailored black velvet suit. Fred extended his hand to him, presenting him his wife. 

  - And this is Y/N Wiley, she’s from Rolling Stone. - Mary added, removing Y/N from her gaze of the beauty around her. - She’ll be dinning with us tonight. 

  - Pleasure to meet you, Leo Crawford. - he shook her hand, receiving a smile in exchange as they all sat down. - If it doesn’t sound to rude Miss, but you look far too young to be a Rolling Stone writer. 

  - I’m an intern. - she replied. - I wish to be a writer someday but so far I’m just an intern. 

  - Sebastian hired her. - Fred added. - We were very excited to get another tour article but Y/N quickly became part of the family.

  - I see. - he opened his briefcase, taking some photographs out. - I brought some of my old work to make sure I’m the artistic view you’re looking for. 

  - Is that Scorpion? - Y/N pointed at one of the pictures. - You photographed Scorpion?

  - One of my first jobs. - he scotched closer to her. - Just between us Ms. Wiley, I was quite the nervous one during it. 

  - I can imagine it. 

The dinner lasted for a good three hours until they all decided to go back to the hotel and have drinks at their personal bar. Y/N was relieved to take off her shoes as they sat by the bar. 

  - You’re far too stunning to be behind the scenes. I would love to photograph you something, Ms. Wiley. - he spoke putting his glass back on. Once she was about to reply, Sebastian and Melody walked into the room. Sebastian’s eyes immediately shot to the man who was speaking to Y/N, and how close he was too her. - I’m serious, whenever you need some photos taken. 

  - You’re a laugh, Leo. - she laughed, hand in front of her mouth as she noticed Sebastian’s gaze burn on her. - Oh Leo, this is Sebastian Stan, he’s the front man of the band. 

  - Pleasure, I’ve heard many things about you from Ms. Wiley. - he extended his arm to him, but he ignored it, grabbing a glass and some scotch. - I’d love to photograph the whole band together for the last time. 

  - I’m sure of it. - Sebastian rolled his eyes taking a seat by Melody. - Wiley, if you still want the interview, I’d suggest you get ready for it.

  - Oh, sorry. - Y/N apologised, getting up from her seat and smoothing her dress down. She turned to face Leo, an apologetic smile on her face. - It was so nice to meet you, Mr. Crawford. 

  - Here’s my card. - he handed her a white and black card. - If you ever need anything, please give me a call Ms. Wiley.

  - Thank you. 

She turned once more to face Sebastian pointing towards her bedroom with her head as she took off, her shoes held by her fingers. He followed behind like a scolded child as they entered her bedroom, once they entered her bedroom, she crossed her arms, considering throwing her shoes at him. 

  - You were unnecessarily rude to Mr. Crawford.

  - You were throwing yourself all over him, it’s not a good shade on you, sweetheart. 

  - I wasn’t and even if I was, it would be none of your business. - she placed her shoes by her closet before returning to the bed, turning on her laptop so she could record their small interview. 

  - Trust me, you don’t wanna date someone in the business. - Sebastian rolled his eyes at her, sitting on top of her bed. 

  - You’d know. - she snarled at him, getting up and reaching behind her back so she could reach the dress’ zipper. Sebastian was about to argue back at her but stopped once he saw her reach for her zipper and huff in disappointment when she couldn’t possibly pull it all down. She came to the conclusion of either leaving the room and ask someone or ask Sebastian. Since her feet hurt, Sebastian it was. - Can you zip me down?

  - Don’t you wanna go ask Mr. Crawford?

  - Do you want to stop being to childish? - she turned on her back, pushing her hair to the side. Sebastian got up, his hands shaking as he pushed her zipper down. He expected her to go into the bathroom to take her dress off, but to his surprise, she shook the dress off her, remaining on her lingerie as she went to grab a robe. He was supposed to be mad at her but here he was ogling her once again, something his girlfriend could never learn of. - Alright, let’s get this over and done with.

JOEY: Hello everyone and welcome back to Fondue for Two! We're doing a Glee Club edition this month, which means that I will invite the captains of each glee club that actually matter around here... Today we have the captain of the Warblers, also known as my boyfriend, Xan Puckerman! And we have a very good friend of mine, Gigi Stone! She's not captain of the Canaries, but after the so called slushie incident, Aubrey won't talk to me... Either way, are you guys excited to be here?

XAN : Always excited to be in your bedroom, Joseph.

GIGI: Can we keep the flirting to a minimum today, boys? But yeah, I’m excited to be here. You clearly made the best decision by inviting the most talented Canary.

JOEY: Don't worry Gigi, we'll try. Okay, first question is for Xan... Is it true that everyone at Dalton is gay? Or is that a rumor that was created many years ago?

XAN : While I personally believe that everyone is at least a little gay. The number of out and proud homosexuals at Dalton Academy is lower than you might think. So yeah...definitely a rumor. Possibly a little bit of a problematic one while we're at it.(edited)

JOEY: Well... That's interesting to know. But I'm pretty sure that most people will still think that. Gigi, next question is for you! Do you have a date for Candyland? And if you do, who is it?

GIGI: Duh. Of course I do. I’m going with your brother, actually. Trace asked me the other day.

XAN : Love that for you two.

GIGI: He’s so cute, right? I’m excited.

JOEY:  He didn't tell me that! That's cute... Why did you say yes? You know what, that's not important... Since we're talking about Valentine's Day, the next question is for you two: if we weren't all going to Breadstix, what would your perfect Valentine's Day be like? JOEY: Let's stop talking about my brother...

XAN : honestly? i'm not a big holiday person. being born on a holiday kinda ruined all holidays for me i think. but for sake of not looking like an asshole on the internet, i'll say i would be doing something cute with my boyfriend

GIGI: That’s... cute. In a sad sort of way. My perfect Valentine’s Day is being pampered from start to finish. Flowers, jewelry, chocolate. The whole nine yards. GIGI: Trace, if you’re watching this.. Play your cards right and you might be promoted from bench warmer to MVP.

JOEY: 4th of July is a holiday? I thought people just liked to throw fireworks on that day because it's fun, I don't know... But all of those are good answers. Okay, next question, what is the hottest piece of gossip going on at your schools right now? And this is an important one.

XAN : i'm simply not a messy bitch so i have no clue.

JOEY: C'mon, there's gotta be something going on at Dalton!

GIGI: Margot’s dad like literally paid off our coach so she could have a solo at Regionals. Embarrassing, right? Couldn’t be me.

XAN: i will not tolerate Margot slander in my presence. XAN: she's my favorite canary.

JOEY: Wait, did she really do that? Who told you that? I need to know if this is real. Sorry Xanny!

GIGI: It’s literally all anyone can talk about at Crawford? Which is annoying because there’s a lot more interesting things to talk about, but regardless, let’s just say it’s not the first time it’s happened.

JOEY: You heard it here first, people! It won't be a problem though, since you guys lost either way... So sorry about that. But at least the Warblers won! Moving on, who do you guys think will win at Nationals?

XAN : i might be biased. but this is the most competitive warblers year of recent years. i think we could go all the way.

GIGI: Obviously Vocal Adrenaline. No offense to either of you. GIGI: Well, I guess that’ll only happen if they finally kick Giardi off the team.

XAN : i will say...i've heard some rumors about vocal adrenaline's regionals set and i'm a little....terrified for lack of a better word.

GIGI: Say more.

JOEY: Say more right now!

XAN : not to incriminate myself, but i produce rap tracks for this freshman in the warblers. In exchange, he keeps tabs on some of the other show choirs in ohio. let's just say....vocal adrenaline is tributing one of the best vocalists of all time. XAN : expect to cry if you have tickets this weekend.

JOEY: Dua Lipa?

XAN: Not Dua Lipa babes.

GIGI: Interesting. Thanks for the tip, Puckerman.

JOEY: Well, that's kind of scary then... But to answer my own question, I'm sure that the New Directions have a chance too, but we'll see... JOEY: Next question, while we're talking about the show choir world, am I the only one who thinks there's some sexual tension between Julien and Gooby?

XAN : who the hell is gooby?

JOEY: Davis!

XAN: I don't know. That guy gives off heavy asexual vibes to me. Like the definition of soulless automaton. I should know I shared a room with him on the ski trip.

GIGI: (laughs) Davis is the farthest thing from asexual. Soulless? You might be onto something there.

XAN: have you copulated with the enemy???

JOEY: Yeah, have you Gigi? Because that's kind of weird and I can only imagine having sex with Gooby is like sleeping next to a loud breather...

XAN: Or a very unsexy android

JOEY: Or even an emotionless Henry Cavill!

GIGI: Do you two seriously live under a rock? Davis and I have been on and off for the past year and a half or so.

XAN: i don't really pay attention to heterosexual mating patterns...

JOEY: Wait... I thought people from Vocal Adrenaline weren't supposed to sleep with people from other schools... Isn't that why Ivy broke up with Julien?

XAN: i thought Ivy broke up with Julien because he's a cabbage patch kid in a high schooler's body

GIGI: I don’t know why Ivy broke up with Julien, and quite frankly, I don’t care. And to answer your question, they can’t date people from opposing teams during competition season.

JOEY: (chuckles at Xan's comment) Xan, don't be mean! JOEY: Well, yeah, but... Haven't you guys been hooking up for the past year? How does that work?

GIGI: Next question. I didn’t come on here to talk about Davis.

XAN: You heard the lady, stinky.

JOEY: Fine... Who do you think is going to be the most shocking couple at Candyland?

GIGI: Some of these losers actually landing dates is shocking in itself, but I, for one, am interested to see who shows up with the belle of the ball.

XAN: i don’t know about shocking, but I watched Chad texting Bri while we were eating at breastix....and if those two end up back together it would be the LEAST shocking thing in recent history. XAN: actually no...the canaries losing with an all country set would be the least shocking thing in recent history

GIGI: Interesting jab from someone who sang songs from a children’s movie. All I have to say on that front is that the Canaries will never be singing another country song again. You can bet on it.

JOEY: Chad and Bri dated? I had no idea about that... JOEY: But I have to agree with Xan, it was kind of lame... And Trolls isn't a kids' movie! It's a movie for all ages! I love that movie... I'm kind of curious to see who Leo McCarthy is going with, I feel like I haven't seen him in a long time. JOEY: What do you mean about the Canaries though? I thought Aubrey was captain still...

GIGI: And I thought Ivy would never let Julien out of her clutches, but here we are.

XAN: (laughs) not clutches!

Catharia’s Note: I’ve always been an admirer of @astridapples​‘ side blog for MidCin (or some times I’d like to call ‘Midnight Sinning’). I got so inspired to continue on with the  Suitors and MC break-up and it’s continuation after a few years they meet again (will add the link soon as well). I find that there should be some closure for us to understand why they broke up in the first place (and possibly a few revelations).

This post will be a gift to @astridapples​‘ beautiful blog b/c why not.

Suitors and Revelations [Angst (?)]

Louis: The Princess has been diagnosed with a kind of sickness which only affected women in her family to have a hard time conceiving. She always dreamed of having children with Louis but that is now impossible. She knew that if she married him, they would be pressed to produce an heir by the court. The couple dissolved their engagement much to the dismay of some and he eventually got married to another noble woman. It is revealed years later that the Princess was the one that set both Louis and his current wife to meet. The two women were actually good friends when the Princess was still new to court.

Alyn: He might be Capt. Of the the Royal Guards but she was a Princess who is expected to marry for the well-being of the kingdom. (“He is trash–not for you” [taken from the Notebook]). She breaks it off and although he sent her an invitation to the wedding (for formality’s sake), she never attended the beautiful wedding she secretly and personally paid for.

Giles: The King found out about the relationship between them and made the Princess choose: Leave Giles or have him publicly humiliated in court and exiled some place far away. Of course, she left him to save his reputation but either way he was a broken man in the end when she broke his heart.

Leo: A  fellow bureaucrat found out that the Princess’ adviser had been planning on committing treason (?) towards another nobleman and it is revealed to the King. The plan was to give present the case publicly without his knowledge but the Princess had been quick to defend him and held a private audience with the bureau. They struck a deal that the princess would choose someone from the said man’s family as prince consort and Leo would be allowed to remain in court. Sadly, he couldn’t handle seeing her with someone else and decided to travel for long periods of time.

Sid: His current fiancée spread rumours that the man had been emotionally abusing and neglecting her. She personally threatens the princess and calls her a woman who abuses her newly acquired power to be a home wreaker. In turn, Sid definitely retaliates by only treating his fiancee horribly but this only makes his image worse and the gossip spread in different courts that the man is a beast. The princess finally decides that it would better if she broke of their relationship in hopes that Sid’s image would be repaired and he hopefully wouldn’t lose his job as an informant due to the scandal that is focused on him ( no one would want to hire a detective that has too much attention on him).

Albert: The Wysterian court found out that she had a relationship with a Knight from Stein, worse he was the right hand man of the King himself! They accuse Albert of influencing the Princess’ decisions by order of Byron. The court is ready to have the man seized during a visitation but the Princess immediately pleads in private that he is innocent and to prove themselves, she would break their relationship off which she does without explaining the situation to him.

Nico: The princess catches wind that the Court higher ups heard that Nico is a double agent working for Stein who planned on stealing the kingdom’s secrets/plans for their own. They want him on trial but the Princess acts fast and tells him that it is over between her and Nico, finally commanding him to go back to Stein and she never wanted to see him again. One morning, he heard from Giles that he had been dismissed from his post as her butler and he never saw her again even when she visited Stein.

Byron: Another allied country threatened to wage war on Stein if Wysteria didn’t break its relations with said country. The princess had been advised to break the engagement since Wysteria doesn’t have enough resources nor the men to spare if a war occurred. Also, it has been pointed out that the said country and Wysteria had been allies for centuries and an engagement with Stein would only provoke them. The Princess finally uses the pretence of telling Byron it would be best for him to find someone better than her to benefit his kingdom but in reality she did it to save both his and her people from bloodshed.

Robert: The court gossip has reached an all time high. The court painter was rumored to be affiliated with the royals of another country and given his rather close ties with the princess, it is speculated that he must be selling off vital Wysterian information to another. The nobles have decided to reveal Robert’s ‘true’ nature in court but the Princess has decided to leave him before the rumors got out of hand, of course without telling him of the nobles’ plans. He never got over how they never really ended things between them.

Rayvis: The man’s lineage is placed under suspicion and the gossip that Rayvis was not of true noble blood has spread. Both his loyalty is questioned by Stein and Wysterian officials and he is slowly being considered an outcast during private and public events. Wysterian officials pressure the princess to break the engagement since the man isn’t really the person he claims to be and could be a dangerous individual whose intentions cannot be determined at the moment. The Princess argues that she too is not of noble birth but is immediately shot down by the nobles and even the king himself. They would take no chances and the Princess is forced to end the relationship under the pretense of losing interest in him.

Steadfast Combines History and Heart Into Triumph

 Jillian Poe’s latest directorial effort, Steadfast is at once familiar and unfamiliar: a Regency romance set against the Napoleonic War, full of ballroom scenes and lavish costumes, crackling with politics and passion. It’s (extremely) loosely based on the 1940s novel of the same name, which in turn was based on the historical Will Crawford’s surviving letters and notes, and the romance is real in more than one way—assuming you haven’t been living under a rock, you’ve seen the stories about on-set melodrama: Colby Kent and Jason Mirelli hooking up, being injured, falling in love, and from all reports being blissfully happy.

 Leaving the behind-the-scenes drama aside, the question is: is it a good film?

 The answer is unequivocally yes.

 It’s more than good. It’s a brave film, in the best ways: not only in telling a historical gay love story—and it is very, very gay; Jillian Poe and her cast don’t shy away from sex scenes—but in the raw emotion and power of the storytelling and the relationship. It’s the kind of film that gets remembered as a landmark: what good filmmaking can do. And it’s worth seeing, not only for the attention to period detail or the reminder that gay people (and black people, Indian people, and others; we see an impressively diverse London, especially among Will’s Home Office fellow recruits) have always existed in history, but for the sheer emotional experience. Steadfast is a romance, unashamedly so, and it wants you to fall in love, and you will.

 The casting and the script are spot-on, to start.

 Jillian Poe has her favorite stable of actors, so some familiar faces won’t be a surprise. Colby Kent, also a producer, and given co-writing credit with Ben Rogers, stars as Will Crawford—Rogers and Jillian Poe have independently confirmed that Colby did on-set rewrites, which means most of what we see is likely his. We’ve discussed Colby and the industry and uncredited script work at length back when that news broke, so here I’ll just say that Colby is a better writer than any of us realized—good at knowing and utilizing the source material, but also paring down, choosing the exact right word for each moment, giving his fellow actors dialogue that sounds effortlessly natural. Odds on a Best Adapted Screenplay award or two? Pretty high, I’d say.

 Speaking of Colby Kent, he’s always been quietly excellent on screen, often underrated (that Academy Award loss to Owen Heath should’ve gone the other way, no offense to Owen, who is also generally excellent), and equally capable of adorable clumsiness or aristocratic decadence. You could argue that playing young and wealthy and vulnerable and gay is exactly in his wheelhouse and hardly a stretch, and you might be right—but you would also be wrong.

 It’s an award-winning performance. It’s a master class in complex character acting. It’s compelling and dramatic and the core of the film, at least half of it, more on which later.

 Will Crawford—in ill health, a natural scientist, the Regency equivalent of a rich kid and only heir to a vast estate—might have come across as weak, or naïve and fragile, or in need of rescue. And Colby Kent’s good at fragile and lovely and desperate. But Will’s also a literal genius, determined to be useful, and willing to do anything—including spycraft and affecting the tide of battle and the fate of nations—to protect the man he loves. Colby Kent never lets us forget that, and the character and the story become richer for it. He’s almost at his best in moments without dialogue—I say almost because Colby, as ever, has flawless timing when delivering lines, both the heartbreaking and the wryly sarcastic. But his eyes and expressions say so much that every close-up could be a page’s worth of emotion-filled speeches, except not, because they’re not necessary. He’ll definitely get the Academy Award nomination; if there’s any justice, he’ll also win. Though, having said that, my personal vote might go to the biggest surprise of the film, just because I was so impressed and delighted. But we’ll get to that in a minute.

 The supporting cast is also superb—Leo Whyte, as Jason’s second-in-command, embodies complicated and compassionate loyalty, someone who’d follow his captain into battle and also sympathize with his captain’s difficult love, given his own socially fraught marriage to a poor Irish girl (Kate Fisher, having a marvelous time and some of the funniest lines). John Leigh gives his performance as a conflicted would-be mutineer some delicate nuance—he still admires his captain and ultimately makes a painful personal choice. Jim Whitwell epitomizes workmanlike British gentlemanly acting—though we get a hint of the dirtiness of his profession, and of his sympathy for Stephen and Will, which adds layers to his performance. And young Timothy Hayes is worth watching as Stephen’s favorite optimistic midshipman, with deft comedic timing in the midst of storms and the stalking of a French ship.

 The crown jewel of the supporting cast, of course—and the shoo-in for Best Supporting Actor—is Sir Laurence Taylor, notoriously picky about taking on new projects at this point, but here fully committed to his role as Will’s father, the aging Earl of Stonebrook.

 It’s easy to say that Sir Laurence is a legend, but sometimes we forget what that means. In this role, we remember. He delivers words that cut right through his on-screen son, and by extension the audience; but his anguish and grief are equally genuine: he’s a man who loved and lost his wife, who doesn’t understand his only son and heir, who clings to the need to protect the family name and estate and future, while faced with the dual truths that his son prefers men to women and in any case might die young—of illness, if not from daring the world in Regency spycraft. The Earl is awful and vicious and cruel to Will—but watching Sir Laurence stand at his son’s bedside, or come to the window and silently watch his son depart for London…those moments will make you hurt for him despite yourself, and it’s a virtuoso piece of acting.

 Speaking of brilliant pieces of acting, let’s talk about that biggest (and I don’t mean just the physique, though that can’t be missed) surprise of the film: Jason Mirelli.

 First, a confession: I, like quite a few people, felt some skepticism about this casting choice. That’s not to insult action films as such, and Jason Mirelli’s been a consistently reliable action-hero lead. But it’s a very different genre, and Jason’s previous filmography hasn’t, let’s say, exactly indicated much dramatic range. (Having said that, I’ll admit to unironically loving Saint Nick Steel. Is it ridiculous? Yes. Is it hilarious absurd so-bad-it’s-amazing fun? Also yes. Does it have Jason Mirelli in an artistically torn shirt chasing terrorists through a shopping mall while protecting small children and wearing a hat that makes him the reincarnated spirit of Christmas? Hell yes it does. We watch it every year.)

 If you, like me, were on the fence but willing to be convinced…

 I’ll say it right now: Jason Mirelli should be on that Academy Award ballot alongside Colby Kent.

 He’s the other half of the heart of this film, and the second he steps down from that carriage in the opening shot, he’s commanding the narrative. He’s captured the physicality of a wartime ship’s captain, but more than that, he’s captured the layers of character. Every motion of those shoulders, those eyes, that jawline, all means something—as do the moments when he chooses not to move and be still. Take the moment when he looks at Will in the morning-after scene, which is just a look and a few beats on camera, but Jason’s able to convey Stephen’s love, and wistful frustration over their different social classes, and genuine affection, and fear about Will’s illness, and surprised joy at having someone to wake up next to. It’s a hell of a role—romance, war, leadership on a ship’s deck, the shock when Will falls gravely ill, the emotion of the ending, which I won’t spoil here—and Jason’s a revelation. He’ll have his pick of roles after this, and he’ll deserve the Oscar nod, though it’s unlikely he’ll win—the Academy likes to reward previous nominees and is notoriously skeptical of popcorn-flick pedigrees, and Jason might need to prove himself once or twice more. But he shouldn’t have to. This is enough, and it’s fantastic to watch.

 Part of that epic transformation should be credited to Jillian Poe’s direction. With Steadfast, Poe demonstrates her skill as a director and her ability to handle multiple genres—she started out, you might remember, with lighter romantic-comedy fare, often also with Colby Kent—and her ability to get quality performances from her actors, every single one, every single time. I also wouldn’t be surprised at her picking up a directorial award or two; it’s an ambitious project, and also a labor of love, which shines through in each frame.

 The costuming and sets are as plush and attentive to detail as you would expect from an Oscar-bait period piece that’s a Jillian Poe production—that reputation for perfection’s deserved. The score is, if not anything out of the ordinary for a Regency setting, handled with delicacy and love—the music plays into the mood of each scene unobtrusively and expertly.

 Fans of the novel might have some minor critiques involving the looseness of the adaptation, in particular the ending, which—let me offer a minor spoiler warning, no detail, but stop reading if you want to know nothing at all—adds a final sequence that provides a happy ending for Stephen and Will. Is it book-accurate? No. But I called Steadfast a brave film earlier in this review, and this ending is an act of courage: imagining a happy ending for gay men in history, demanding that their love story end well and with joy. (And Colby Kent personally met with the novel’s famously reclusive author, so for all you purists, this change was made with permission.)

 Those stories matter. Steadfast as a film matters. Go see it. Fall in love.

Leo Crawford: Nightmare

Summary: Leo has a nightmare and the princess helps him.

Rolling over to find Leo's warmth, Y/n woke up when she felt his side of the bed was empty. Once the Princess was more observant, she called out for her prince consort. Y/n heard Leo's gentle "out here" letting her know that he was on the balcony. Stretching her bones, Y/n sat up out of bed and made her way over to the balcony. Leo was leaning against the railing, looking up at the twinkling stars.

"Leo?" Y/n spoke softly before walking up behind him.

When Leo didn't answer her, Y/n wrapped her arms around him. Leo tensed a little before he relaxed and turned around to return the embrace. The Prince Consort let out a sigh before burying his nose in Y/n's h/c hair and taking in her sweet scent. He hugged her tighter. Which resulted in Y/n rubbing his back.

"Are you okay?" she asked as she looked up at him.

"Just another nightmare," Leo whispered, "but it felt more dreadful than any other nightmare I've ever had."

Y/n noticed that Leo was about to cry, so she took him in her arms, whispering words of encouragement.

"I haven't had a nightmare in a while," Leo cried "it felt so real, everything was normal one minute, but the next, I had lost both you and Alyn. I can't stand that thought. It would destroy me.

"It's just a nightmare, both Alyn and I are okay," Y/n soothed running her fingers through Leo's soft hair, "and nothing is going to happen, we won't leave you, I promise."

"I love you so much." Leo looked at her, his red eyes meeting her e/c ones.

He could always get lost in them. Maybe that's why he always felt better when he stared into her beautiful eyes.

"I love you too," Y/n smiled at him, "do you want to stay out here for a while more or go inside?"

"Inside, please," Leo answered, "I just want to hold on to each other."

Y/n had leaned up and pressed a kiss against his lips before grabbing his hand and leading him back to their bed. Once they were under the blankets, Leo laid his head on Y/n's chest, allowing her to run her fingers through his hair once again.

"Get some sleep, my love," Y/n soothed, "you'll have better dreams. And when you wake up, Alyn and I will still be here."

Leo slept peacefully and had a much better dream. He knew he shouldn't let the past terrify him, and he wasn't going to. Leo was going to love Y/n and his brother, and he promised himself to protect them and talk about his feelings when he started to feel scared again.

chloe harper crawford was born on july 23, 1998 in charleston, south carolina. she is a cancer-leo cusp. her mother is savannah crawford nee harper, an ex-pageant queen, and her father is andrew crawford, of the charleston crawfords.

the crawfords are a veeeery old-money charleston family, and chloe’s father was one of their most successful outputs, running the family business perfectly. chloe and her younger brother braden (born three years after, and the heir presumptive to the crawford throne) were the crown jewel of their picture-perfect family.

chloe’s mother started training the girl the day she was born to follow in her footsteps as a future miss south carolina. despite having the perfect blonde curls and the big blue eyes, the pageant lifestyle didn’t come easily to chloe - she didn’t have the edge, that certain bite needed to slice someone open with a razor-sharp smile.

however, in this training chloe realized that she truly loved the stage, the spotlight, the adoration of the crowd. it didn’t take her long to channel that energy into acting.

though chloe struggled in school, acting made her feel at home. it gave her an outlet, a place to shine, unlike the classroom where she felt awkward and slow. as she grew, she learned to channel the confidence acting gave her into her social life, and suddenly she was the center of attention. being a pretty, rich blonde didn’t hurt either.

as chloe approached college age, it was practically a given that she would go to hollingsworth, rush kkd like her mother, major in something safe like communications or pr, marry a good southern boy, and return to charleston to continue the family legacy. however, she went against the wishes of her family and instead applied to nine different schools, all for their drama programs. she got into all nine, but ultimately decided to go to hollingsworth anyway.

hollingsworth proved to be a place chloe could thrive, that provided her with tons of opportunities. one such opportunity was a short film, written and directed by a semi-famous hollingsworth alum. chloe auditioned and got the lead role, filming over the summer before junior year.

she thought it would be nothing, just a bit of experience for her resume after she finished college and started the hard stuff. but when the film was shown at the new york film festival, it got surprise rave reviews and a lot of attention. suddenly, chloe was a hot commodity, and she’s had offers from major film studios, including a signed contract for a role she’s supposed to play just after she graduates from hollingsworth.

just as chloe’s fortunes were going up, however, her family’s were going down. the summer before her senior year at hollingsworth, the family business was exposed as having corrupt practices, and is on the verge of shutting down. though chloe’s father claims he knows nothing about it, he’s being investigated for fraud.

she’s very VERY nervous about interviewing, press appearances, and the general business of being a rising star. although she acts like a social butterfly and is a very charming girl, it doesn’t necessarily come easy to her. deep down, she still feels like the awkward kid in class, who doesn’t quite fit in or get it, no matter how hard she tries.

despite her high social standing due to being in kkd, she’s one of the sweetest girls you’ll ever meet. she definitely doesn’t subscribe to the idea that kappa girls are better than anyone else -- unless you cross her, she would never hurt a fly and in fact goes out of her way to be nice to people. she truly believes in the idea that everyone’s fighting their own battle and you don’t need to make it any harder for them.

despite that, if you do cross her, and do something major, the claws can come out. she’s not afraid to stand up for herself although she tends to wait a little longer than she should to speak out.

she’s a hopeless romantic and falls in love so fast. she loves being in love just as much as she loves the person she’s with. mostly, she loves being in a relationship and she gives her heart and soul to the person completely.

she’s not the brightest but she is truly kind and sweet.

she’s probably super involved in kkd! she lives at the house and like... probably is that girl who wears her letters everywhere and constantly talks about formals and frat boys. idk whether there’s like ‘positions’ in the rp but i could def see her as recruitment chair or social chair!

chloe is HEAVILY inspired by serena van der woodsen, cher horowitz, elle woods, and bianca from 10 things i hate about you !! she’s a bubbly blonde who has this magnetic appeal you just can’t say no to.
