what do you reckon the mareven children would be like

omgggg like,,, mareven is a couple i barely imagine having kids. in my mind they’re 9 times out of 10 doomed by the narrative so i never see them lasting that long 😭 but i have thought about it in the sense of the arranged marriage scenario, where maven and mare are probably expected to have an heir. because by themselves without social pressure i don’t think they’d be a couple to have kids…. or maybe i just have to think about it more.

i think they’d have one kid and that child is almost exactly like maven— in looks and in personality except she’s a girl. she’s ambitious and cunning and snarky and scheming and clever and cruel. she’s lonely. and she’d have the doomed eldest-daughter-is-the-unwanted-mirror-of-their-father dynamic with maven. because i think maven would be more sweet on a child that looks and acts like mare, but would be more distant with a child that is exactly his carbon copy. how to approach the product of the shell he’s always felt was inferior? his daughter feels like karma to him.

and to make things more interesting i feel like this daughter is 100% her momma’s girl and has complete loyalty to mare over her dad, similar to maven and elara just without the toxicity. and mare loves her sooo much like her daughter is her whole world even though she is exactly like the husband she hates so much (but if she can adore someone exactly like maven than how can she completely despise maven?? hmm food for thought). maybe mare gets a taste of the desperation elara had felt when she watched maven get shunned by his father too.

either way i haven’t seen much on oc mareven kids but in my mind this is personally the most interesting dynamic to me. they gotta carry on the calore curse in being the most angstiest family known to man

My high school did a yearly poetry recitation contest (Poetry Out Loud), so Oh Boy do I know some poems. My favorites are Ozymandias and "the world is about to end and my grandparents are in love," by Kara Jackson. Also in 8th grade we had a Poe unit and had a class contest to make the best music video of the Raven, so I still know a good chunk of that.

i hadn't heard of the kara jackson one! just read through it and enjoyed it, particularly these lines > 'grandma returns to her love like a hymn, marks it with a color. // when the world ends will it suck the earth of all its love? /will i go taking somebody’s hand, / my skin becoming their skin?'

15. What was the partner's reaction to Rook being imprisoned in the Fade? How did they cope? How did they react upon seeing Rook again?

I uhhh got a little too into this one and it's very stream of consciousness, so it is under the cut! (I'll probably refine all this when I actually write it out!)

The challenge here is summarizing a fic's worth of feelings briefly haha. Something like:

Lucanis has just watched Lace die and vanish entirely into a pit of blight, has just heard the death cries of a goddess. At last, this much is finished; not all, not wholly, but in part at least he has succeeded where he'd failed before.

He turns to find Rook (as he has in so many battles before, as he did when Razikale fell even sprinting through the ruins of Weisshaupt) and instead he finds...nothing.

Well, no. Nothing would be more telling. He finds her staff discarded on the stone life refuse, her orb gone dull, dagger dented beside it. Rook is not only gone, but disarmed, without her weapons when this place has demanded their use in every moment. Perhaps, for a moment he thinks that grief has caused this, that she has dropped everything and run after Lace. Spite knows first that this is wrong, keens the first warning that she is TAKEN, and it is then that Lucanis sees Solas in the split second before he vanishes again.

There is little time to think; he will not forgive himself for this later, but even so it is the truth. The wrath of a would-be god swings its mighty hammer down upon them too quickly to do anything at all. Even so, he and Spite are joined in this: they will get her back, whatever the cost, and will make the ones who took her away pay for every moment of her absence in blood. In this, he is determined.

(Why did he tell her to wait when she came to him? He could see the thoughts in her eyes, knew what she meant when she pressed the locket with its ribbon-bound lock of hair into his hands before the battle. Was this his one chance? Has he lost it already, this thing he did not think he would ever have for himself? All the words they have said to each other, but he never told her the most important things...and now she is gone.)

He copes, of course, by working himself into the ground. Every avenue to pursue, every clue or hint or place to search, he volunteers to seek himself while the other sleep or study or work on their plan B. Spite does him the favor of continuing this work, when possible, while Lucanis sleeps. When forced to stillness, he worries that last moment with her over and over in his hands along with the token she left him: what might he have told her? What could he have said instead of telling her to wait?

He tries, as much as he can, to believe that she has come through many horrors before and she will make it through this one, too.

When she comes back....augh. I can only imagine, as someone who lost his family at a young age, that there is a part of him that believes that someone who is gone in this way is gone forever, lost to him save cold marble sepulchers and flowers once a year.

So to lose her and to see her returned? I don't think he ever really let himself believe she was gone forever, but even so I think it was difficult to believe that she is back. And of course, once he has a moment to process this, he is determined to tell her all the things he could not say before. Having faced the loss of her, he won't waste this second chance.

Hi anon! I actually got another ask specifically for this a little bit after you sent this! So this one will answer BOTH of you! I’ll direct other anon to this post too.

Theo meeting Annabel hours!! - Annabel plays up her ladylike deal when first meeting him, wanting to leave an impression. - Theo is utterly baffled that a woman like Annabel Lee is who Lenore managed to get. Like he's impressed, really. - When they first meet, Theo and Annabel Lee both instinctively play the parts they are used to performing in society. She offers her hand, he kisses it. It's out of habit- once they both remember that such things are not needed any longer, they just kind of awkwardly shake hands. They're both so, so deep in the roles they were forced to play. - Annabel mentions that the thought of being wed was horrifying...until she met Lenore. This gets Theo wondering if his opinion on marriage would change if it was not with a woman, but a man. Annabel Lee starts his crisis. - They talk over tea. Annabel's eyes sparkle when Theo speaks of Lenore in a fond tone. She is mildly envious of their bond, wondering what her life would have been like if she had a sibling. - She challenges him to chess. He fails so miserably, he cannot look her in the eye for like an hour. - Lenore told Theo Annabel's tell beforehand so he can call it out and freak her out. Her reaction is hilarious. - It takes them a while to figure out how to properly converse without using every single script from society like talks about the weather or the economy.

i think this is interesting bc while yes, their story is tragic, they had known one another long enough to arrange a marriage at the very least, so of course there will be more to build on with that backstory! it's something i like to include in any fics that are more than just my oneshots focused on wellenore. of course when we meet hg he's a more key character to it all so naturally will be involved in more fics, and what we see is a different stage of the relationship. what we see of lenvere is the end of a relationship that happens to be in the very peak of it, whereas wellenore is very new and the two getting along and realising that there could be some chemistry there that they could explore (they've known each other for a few hours, even if a lot has happened in those few hours)

obviously no hate or anything bad towards anon, i fully believe there should be more recognition of how devoted to one another lenore and guy were!! i just also understand why wellenore is so popular because we never really get to see the potential of what they could have if allowed the extra time that guy and lenore clearly did have at one point, even if both times were tragically cut short

(i also think this explains lenore's excitement to see hg appear again in the epilogue! she's already lost one partner to death and so having another potential close bond return must be so nice for her, even if it only ends in a friend way, but yeah i think their romance is somewhat overexaggerated compared to what is truly shown in canon, but it's the potential we love!!)

People don’t talk about Lenore and Guy de Vere enough. Like yeah sure Hg Wells whatever but like????? the tragedy of lenvere?? She died tragically young, he couldn’t stand to live without her, she was brought back only for him to die and try and join her. It was their wedding day, her ghost is still wearing her wedding dress.

sorry it just really annoys me that so many people talk about HG and Lenore when they don’t have HALF of what Guy and Lenore had

THEO WILL BE IMPORTANT I KNOW IT. I have this hunch that for the second season, past events at nevermore, the powers of the deans, as well as theo and his class will become immensely more important. I can tell, I have The Itch that he will appear.

Hey, so, Anon — have you heard of the, "Theo is the Deer," theory?

It's been around for quite a while; now, bear in mind, this is a stretch, and I'm very self-aware that it's a stretch. But, I believe it with my whole heart. Have believed it for a while.

So, first of all, we know that Theo was a student at Nevermore. If I recall right, he was the top student. We all know the reward for the top (suriving) student is a new life. With that in mind: the Deans never said what kind of life they'd be rewarded. Just "a new life."

My theory is that the new life is a wicked trick. It's a lie by omission.

The "new life" is a curse to live as a ghost in the Wasteland, forever hungry, forever ravenous, forever lost to the spectre you once controlled.

Are you following me, here?

Let's take that information and couple it with the features of the Deer. The Deer has antlers, big ones, red eyes, and black hair (as shown by Episode 1 and 35).

... So, you know who else had relatively long black hair, hunted deer, and has some association with red (in the panel where the Deans say that Theo was a student)?

Let's also keep in mind that Lenore and Theo have a connection via being siblings. It'd make a great narrative if the theory is correct.

4. Which faction did they join, and why? How long has it been?

The Mourn Watch. Being inducted into the Mourn Watch was the culmination of a lifelong desire for Lenore, and vindication that her choice in career was the right one. She took her oaths around eight years before she was exiled, but she's wanted to be part of the order since before she can remember.

32. How would a desire demon tempt Rook?

Oooh that's a tricky one! I think forbidden knowledge would do it if the demon is wily, but it would have to be relevant to her interests (necromancy, mostly). Otherwise, some kind of vision of belonging somewhere, of being wanted would tempt her. She's aware of the former, but would be surprised by the effectiveness of the latter.
