Every second of their separation before he vanishes into the crowd punctures a new hole through her heart, pins and needles that leave her numb and trembling. She swallows her tears, and they drown her in salt and regret.

The crowd passes around her like ants around discarded trash, blithely traveling past her grief like travelers driving through small towns without stopping. She watches them until she forgets where she is, what’s happened, and who it has happened to, surviving the aftermath by opening up her body and letting her soul step aside.

original WIP: The noise from the funeral party continued on, louder and increasingly garbled, echoing inside the dimly-lit black marble bathroom, narrowing down to a reedy, keening whine, muffling the sound of snapping bone and flesh neatly degloved from its host. The son and heir takes in the sight of himself through the shards of a broken mirror, and his father’s face stares back.

Someone asked me the other day what my husband and I did for our 1year anniversary when we were still dating.

We have a lot of inside jokes at this point and us forgetting any and all anniversaries is among them.

But at year 1, because we had met online, our anniversary gift was meeting in person. (It was technically a month or two early, but still.)

Then I tried to remember any other anniversaries, to no avail, of course. Then I thigh about general gifts. Thought about how, overseas, I was able to stand up for myself a little more, be less accommodating with what we watched, which may have been the catalyst for him finally playing the games I cherish most. For my birthday one year he played FF7 just because it's so important to me. He played Legend of Legaia.

I buy him stuff. I write things for and with him. He reads things even when he'd not in the Fandom just to be my beta reader.

Year 2 is the year I think he got me a pink DS lite and Pokèmon Pearl. Went out his way to get my favorite Pokèmon. I hadn't played since Gen 1, so he acquired a Bulbasaur. I still call him Drewba.

It's been 19 years since I chose him. And I still love him most ardently.

any obscure games I can feel like a hipster playing? don't care if they're technically mediocre sometimes they vibe more that way.

sure here's a list of niche games (perhaps not obscure) i enjoy:

final fantasy 2 - obligatory rec; technically mediocre for sure and i guess you'll either feel like a hipster or a nerd and i think both are acceptable. please please please please please please etc etc

lufia 2 - as someone who has only played loz link's awakening this feels like that with jrpg fights. it is really good and the og is on my to-play list eventually but this game is just so fucking cool. plot is a little wack but whatever. music is really good too

suikoden - i personally like the first more than the second but both ps1 titles are really good - standard jrpg affair but i would consider them niche enough to put on a list here. i am sloooowly playing through the third game but i have enjoyed my time with it through the first few bits

legend of the dark witch - anime babe platformer. decent mix of easy and hard entries but i had a fun time with the series

terranigma - truthfully I haven't gotten very far into it but it is niche so could be worth your time nona

vagrant story - tbh I don't care for the plot but the gameplay is straight fire and sydney losstarot is very cool

legend of dragoon - BURNING RUSH... SPINNING CANE... MORE AND MORE.... COOOOOL BOOGIE... SUMMON FOUR GODS... etc etc. plot gets kind of wack in the later discs but holy FUCK is the gameplay so good.

etrian odyssey just in general - i had a fun time playing the fafnir knight; prolly best to google this series bc youtube can explain it better than i can

final fantasy tactics advance - not obscure but my favorite tactics game. it's a tactics game. not much more to say

ace combat - probably obscure to you if you're looking at my blog; but i really liked ace combat 2. if you enjoy plane shootey games it is good

if you like schlocky fanservice games lord of magna: maiden heaven is a fun romp with hot anime babes. twas little circle's awakening to the vast world of video games (outside pokémon and project diva) so it holds a special place in my heart. grant george voices the antag. so.... yeah

if you like mystery dungeon games i really enjoyed chocobo dungeon 2; the ffx-2 dungeon game I didn't really get into but it is niche

once i finally escape from Scholarly Hell for summer the next game i plan on playing is legend of legaia. truthfully it seems like xenogears with the combat system but i cannot tell whether it is better or worse but i will probably make a post about it in a few months

oh. you know what? play xenogears. play xenogears, nona. you should play xenogears.

or final fantasy 2. because it is good. at least if you squint really hard and tilt your head and squint a little more

For the most part, Legend of Legaia’s graphics are very charming. I prefer the look of the battle models to the wandering-about-towns models but it’s similar to Final Fantasy VII in that regard. So, no big.

However, the cartoony (by choice) and clunky (by hardware/software capabilities) models really do some of the plot’s darker elements a disservice.

Spoilers for anyone who hasn’t played the game but is thinking about it…..

The Conkram part of the story? Super dark and would be creepy as hell with modern day graphics and more realistic models. Noa (and CO) rolling up into the town where she’s been told her parents are to find not just them but anyone still alive is actually fused with a monster that has taken over the town?

The pulsing walls, the intentionally unappealing color palette, everything. Especially the moment where the soldiers who are guarding the basement (and are basically conjoined because of the Seru that has taken over the town) realize the queen said you could pass and they split themselves. The rest of the NPCs will still talk to you as long as the town is still there. They don’t, once they do it.

Shit like that is impactful anyway, but with modern visuals? It’d be wonderfully awful.

I know the game wasn’t nearly popular enough to warrant a remake—probably not even a digital remaster, sadly. (Legaia 2 being a dumpster fire didn’t help). But damn. It would be awesome.

Compartilhando sonhos - Parte 2

Antigamente nosso mestre de RPG tinha uma gangue. Eram eles: Willian (Zou), José Carlos (Zequinha), Joel (Sapo), Wainer Junior (Junior), entre alguns outros com quem anos mais tarde me encontraria com eles. Um famoso é o Ricardo Fudo (Gordinho) [não aquele Ricardinho Fudo, é um ruivo com traços ocidentais, não sei se ele é ocidental ou mestiço]. Cara, e dizer que a gente convive no mesmo mundo mesmo eu tendo quebrado a ligação com meu mestre há mais de 20 anos atrás.

Zou mais tarde virou parça meu, trabalhava com computadores no meu amigo Juliano Dorte. Fazia parte do nosso pessoal amigo do Le Parkour. E pensar que Juliano Dorte, Celso, Alberto, Randal, eu e muitos outros aprenderam computação com o falecido Mario Fofoca, que em meados de 2000/2001 era um dos únicos que realizava manutenção e fazia serviços relacionados a informática. Esse pessoal mais novo na época ainda tava no meio do caminho. Randal e eu estávamos começando, com 12/13 anos de idade.

Zequinha continuava a fazer parte da minha vida, mesmo que esporadicamente. Que adolescente não gostava de passar tempo naquela Lan House perto da Igreja Matriz em 2003/2004?

Um belo dia ele aparece com o violão dele em plena Lan House com todo mundo jogando junto e começa a cantar "Papai Noel Filha da Puta".

Do nada!! Ele aparece lá e começa a cantar essa música!

O pessoal perguntava: De onde surgiu esse cara?!

Mesma coisa com a gangue do Danilo, o Justiceiro Preto, a Thais e a Paula eu conheci de perto. Agora, caras como Miron e Vitor nunca vi pessoalmente, embora o Danilo sempre me falava: O Edson que ia gostar de conhecer o Miron, acho que os dois iam se dar bem.

E mesmo nunca os conhecendo, ouvia falar deles e das histórias do antigo Colégio do Danilo, lá em Presidente Venceslau. A gangue do meu parceiro Joelmir "Mir" Sato, da qual ele tanto comentava lá no Japão, da qual ele tanto falava. Tanto que um desses caras da gangue dele, que já levou facada e sobreviveu, tava vindo pra lá. Isso nos meus últimos meses no Japão. Fiquei tranquilo que embora fosse voltar pro Brasil, o Mir ia ter com quem contar.

Cara...não é preciso nem ter mais de 20 anos pra saber disso. A gente sempre teve junto. Até mesmo as pessoas que nunca conhecemos, mas já ouvimos falar. A vida real é bem isso aí, e a ficção só reflete isso da maneira como bem entende.

O Ricardo Fudo do qual comentei lá acima era um mestre de RPG tão bom quanto o meu próprio mestre. Os dois formavam uma dupla e tanto. Era mó massa quando a gente se reunia na casa do mestre, só eu, ele, meu irmão caçula e o mestre. Os dois viviam discutindo teorias de RPG e jogos eletrônicos, enquanto nós 4 zerávamos "Legend of Legaia", pra PS1.

Um dia a gente tava jogando RPG na casa do mestre e o Ricardo me disse que ia dar um Ônix como pokémon inicial. Eu falei: Pô, Ricardo! Até parece que você adivinhou um traço forte da minha persona!

Ele respondeu: Por que?!

O Ônix, pra quem não sabe, era o principal pokémon do personagem Brock, que tinha bastante a ver comigo. Na primeira temporada de pokémon, o trio principal era Ash, Misty e Brock.

Aí ele complementou (Sorrindo): Mas ele parece mesmo o Brock, não parece!? Até no jeito, a tara pelas mulheres...aí o mestre e meu irmão começaram a dar risada dizendo: Mas é msm!!

Inclusive até o Gala, personagem de "Legend of Legaia", tem um lado bastante em comum cmg. Do qual compartilho junto, seria o termo certo!

Se tem uma coisa da qual a gente sente falta, e eu sei que muita gente concorda, são esses momentos! Raros, únicos, duram pouco tempo, mas são eternos!

Quem não se lembra quando a gente jogava Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow fazendo código de GameShark no emulador?!

E quando a gente jogava CS: 1.5 e 1.6 nas Lan Houses de Dracena e de Junkeira em meados de 2003/2004?! Meu irmão pegava ônibus pra Dracena só pra jogar comigo e os colegas! Ia o Luis Ricardo Horta, o Jeferson (Takinha) e o pessoal nosso lá de Dracena. Certa vez encontrei minha parceira de bate-papo na época, Tamara (Angel), andando por Dracena com duas amigas lá perto da praça Arthur Pagnozzi. Todo dia o pessoal conversava na sala de Dracena da UOL. Mais de noite, quando chegávamos da escola.

Um dia, meu irmão e eu fizemos o regaço numa Lan House que existia lá em Dracena. Os dois times eram ruins, pelo menos se comparado a nós. O Luis Ricardo tava junto também. Eu e meu irmão no time dos Terroristas e o Luis Ricardo no time dos Contra-Terroristas. Se não fosse pelo meu irmão e pelo Luis, os dois times não tinham pontuado tanto! E eu lá servindo de vice-líder pro meu irmão. Esse dia minha Magnum esquentou! Eu fazendo regaço só com a Magnum. O tanto de mortes que causei contou no placar do time inteiro, eu tava em segundo lugar, abaixo do meu irmão. Mas as grandes estrelas foram com certeza o Luis Ricardo e meu irmão caçula. Haviam 2 caras no nosso time que pontuaram bem também, eram melhores do que o restante do time. E haviam mais 3 caras no time do Luis que eram bons também. Longe de dizer que éramos melhores ou piores do que os times naquele dia, todo mundo jogou! E se não fosse pela competência particular de cada um, os times não teriam atingido aquela pontuação. Ninguém pontua tanto assim sozinho, e todo mundo que joga CS sabe disso! Eu particularmente notei que dava pra emboscar vários inimigos juntos sem dizer muita coisa pros caras do meu time. Dava pra ver que todo mundo sabia jogar, mesmo a gente tendo mais tempo de jogo.

Meu irmão e o Luis, que já eram profissionais naquela época, preferiam sempre tática, coordenando o time inteiro apenas com poucas palavras e instruções.

Chegando em casa, meu irmão dizendo: Dih, você tá no caminho certo. Mas vc ainda tem muito a aprender. Faz o seguinte: começa a jogar com time de profissionais. Aí vc vai começar a ter evolução pra próxima etapa!

E quando a gente assistia o "Corvo Repórter" e coisas da nossa época?! Os acontecimentos, os fatos daquela época...só quem viveu pode dizer como é! Quando a gente trocava CD de música e DVD. Ou gravava músicas em CD e filmes em DVD baixados da internet. Eu mesmo vivia trocando CD's de música com a Léia, que estudava na minha sala.

O José Guilherme, que direto comentava sobre coisas que a gente via na TV naquele tempo. A gente passou por bons e maus bocados junto. Eu, ele e nossos amigos. E aquele CD pirata, o Alternativo 2002, que virou uma lenda entre nossas jogadas de "Little Fighter 2"!?

Todo mundo jogava junto no mesmo pc. Cada noite era na casa de um amigo diferente. A gente levava 2 ou 4 joysticks, pra jogar em 8 quando dava! E cara... (Risos) todo mundo queria jogar ouvindo aquele CD! SÓ PORQUE EU E O JOSÉ CONSEGUIMOS ELE DE UM CAMELÔ AMBULANTE LÁ NO MAX CENTER! O CD era tão bom que todo mundo jogava ouvindo ele!

A Tia Tuta, mãe do Randal, vivia cantando aquela música do Fábio Jr., Alma Gêmea! Aliás, tem uma novela que atualmente tá em reprise novamente. Tem o nome dessa música: Alma Gêmea!

Inclusive o cantor Rinaldo Viana, que cantava muito uma outra música, dessa mesma novela, o tema "Uma vez mais", de Ivo Pessoa, no programa Raul Gil, em meados de 2008, nasceu em Arapongas. Mesma cidade onde meu parceiro Joelmir "Mir" Sato nasceu! Ele vivia comentando que o Rinaldo era de lá, de Arapongas! Se não me engano era uma dupla chamada Rinaldo & Liriel. Essa música foi tema da novela, que estreou em 2005 e terminou em 2006. Se não me engano o cantor Rinaldo já cantava essa música em 2004/2005. NÃO ESTOU CERTO QUANTO A ESSA ÚLTIMA INFORMAÇÃO.

Houve um dia em que levei meu irmão caçula e o futuro baixista da nossa banda, "Snake", Murilo Delbianco, lá no Anglo-CID de Dracena pra resolver uns assuntos pendentes. Lá encontrei a Ligia, de tarde, e apresentei os dois.

Isso sem contar nas inúmeras vezes em que alugava fitas de vídeo-game ou filmes na minha conta pra assistir junto com o Murilo Delbianco e meu irmão em casa de noite. Eu tinha conta em 3 locadoras de vídeo diferentes em Dracena! Mais pra frente criei conta em mais uma que existia pra lá da Cachaçaria Água Doce.

Minha reputação era igual "Quarterão com Queijo", aquele famoso lanche do McDonald's. Amado por uns, odiado por outros. Enquanto tinha um fã-clube me apoiando, haviam pessoas que pagavam caro pela minha cabeça ou queriam me ver morto.

Hace 25 años es lanzado Legend of Legaia (レガイア伝説 Regaia Densetsu). Es un RPG con elementos de acción desarrollado por Prokion y Contrai y publicado por Sonyl. Fue seguido por Legaia 2: Duel Saga.

El juego sucede en el mundo de Legaia, en el cual los humanos usan objetos llamados Seru. Se unen y usan poderes fantásticos. Aunque vivían pacíficamente, la niebla apareció y afectó al Seru, transformando humanos en monstruos.
