the zine’s officially out, so I can post my contribution for the @extraordinaryzine :D!

my piece is an interpretation of the caverns on Iron Island 🏝️ so I wanted to incorporate more of the water surrounding it by creating a sea cave to have light spill inside (akin to the modra špilja/blue grotto)

the focus of the zine was on the daily lives of trainers and their pokemon, so Riley uses a spot inside the caverns like this to meditate with his team, although any new Riolu he trains can’t resist wanting to jump into the water to play υ´˶ ･ﻌ･ ˶`υﾉ”

in like the very first episode or two of season 2 freddie said in character, and i quote: "i will go on youtube and look at how to draw anime eyes really good. i will create a deviantart," which just completely convinced me of what i already knew: taylor would be one of those weeb art kids who would have ocs. ABSO FUCKIN LUTELY

additionally i think scary wouldve already been into drawing but taylor wouldve been the one to get her actually into the oc art sphere and she wouldve made one too. and i think scarys sona would be one of those super dark edgy moonwolves with big wings, highlights in their hair, and wrist warmers. real angel with a shotgun nightcore version core. thank you for your time

Finally knitted Halloween socks that I've been meaning to knit since I bought this yarn last year!

The yarn is from "SavannahRoseHandmade" from the 90s Halloween Collection (sold out now UGH [understandable, but UGH]) and is visually inspired by the movie Scream (1996). I saw the colour pooling effect on their sample swatch when they shared the yarn collection images on Reddit last year, and was immediately like, 'Holy shit it's just like CRT TV static!!' And I had to get it. (And then life happened and I didn't get around to knitting them until now lol).

And unfortunately, I'm SO IN LOVE WITH IT!! THE EFFECT DID TRANSLATE TO SOCKS AND NOW IT'S LIKE, AHHH I NEED MORE. I don't know if I have enough yarn left to make an additional pair, so I'll have to figure out how to weigh it and the socks and see if the weight compares (really don't wanna end up with 3 socks and not enough for the 4th lol). But yeah. I'm so glad I got to do this. The yarn colouration was SO fun to work with, and the yarn was a nice and smooth 1-ply which was a huge relief from the fluffy yarn on the socks I'd been working on just before this. And yes, I did intentionally take this photo in front of those books because of the spiral-ish pooling.

Can I just also... like... holy fuck, man. I LOVE when yarn pools into unique patterns. It's the best phenomenon ever. And especially like for this one being black and white? That subtle grey transition from stark white to pitch black is EVERYTHING. Like I never would have thought one could create yarn that would pool EXACTLY like TV static rolling down the screen when knit. Major nostalgia vibes. I can feel the forcefield.

Also, started these babies September 27 and finished the second sock today October 3rd, which may be a new record for me knitting socks, I was so fucking excited. I even have a big ole 'writers bump' on my finger from the way I hold my knitting needles lmao (was also knitting a different pair of socks before this, too), and my arthritis is Not happy, but screw you, arthritis! I'M HAPPY.

Side note: it would be cool to pair this yarn with like a red addition somehow. Get a Saw vibe going bc of the TV static pooling effect. (I do love Scream though.) Or you could even probably take it a The Ring route with like a fly applique or something. So many horror movie staples with TV static effect, and not enough Scream yarn to test them out!!

I had my new tooth and doll eye stitch markers going. I DO have bloody murder weapon stitch markers, but none of them are a buck knife (Ghostface's weapon), so I went for general Halloween vibes instead (even tho I use stitch markers like this year-round lol).

I got fabric for an apron but not thread or strap material so tonight I just cut out the apron and spent some time getting the perimeter hem rolled and prepped for eventual thread acquisition. Shout out to my dear love, light of my life, washable glue stick basting

One time I had a dream where I could go to a really weird space simulation except it was contained within an actual void. I kept messing around with the planets because they were to scale, by picking them up and tossing them in weird places. Some of them were really heavy, like lead. I Iied down on the platform preventing me from falling into the void, tossing trash into Earth's orbit, but the planets kept moving away, and the trash kept falling. I went on Discord (in the dream) and asked "is it weird that l'm pissed at Earth's orbit" and a lot of people in the server said "no". Then I asked what was underneath the platform, and my friend replied "EOR" with a Wikipedia article attached titled "Extension of Reality". I peeked underneath the platform and everything turned blinding white with a deafeningly loud buzzing noise and I got stuck there. I said the word "space" and "Space" in Times New Roman popped up in my vision and it was the only thing I could see. Then I said "what the fuck" and "What the fuck" in the same font popped up and then I woke up

There is elements of both the Vast and the Spiral to this one.

Nynaeve might be the character that fascinates me the most so far, even if she's not quite the one I enjoy the most reading - Siuan! Siuan! Siuan!

Nynaeve is such a realistic blend of childishness and maturity. To put it simply, she can go from acting Egwene's age (and Egwene is so young - it's heartbreaking to realise what she went through so young), even younger, in the most infuriating way and the next paragraph she'll be the kind of loving and grounding older friend who could ease the heartaches of early adulthood.

I think her recklessness and refusal to even acknowledge her shortcomings sting all the more that it feels so personal. It's that very specific age between 25 and 30 where I remember feeling isolated and independent, and how that mixture nurtured the stupidest decisions, the most destructive impulses.

Without a doubt, Nynaeve is grown, arguably the most grown among the young heroes, save perhaps Min, and doesn't need to prove it like Egwene does, yet hasn't quite aged either into the stage where she accepts who she is, that she can be wrong about certain things, including who she is, and it is okay to recognise that and change in response.

At times, it feels like Robert Jordan went back in time and called my 26-year old self both a complete imbecile and someone quite wonderful in the becoming, and he would be quite right to do so.

Now that the kids are in high school and college, I almost never pack a lunch anymore, which is why this Tumblr is dormant nowadays.

But today Beth, age 15, wanted to take some of our Thai leftovers for lunch, so it was time to break out the lunch note vibe and sketch one to toss in her lunch bag.
