I think about this specific line in "The Left and Right Game" horror story a lot:

The main premise is a group of people play the left and right game with their cars and strange things happen.

But this line, the answer Rob gives Alice when she questionshim about how she thinks it's strange how she's not hungry and that the fuel in their cars are burning slower.

"Sounds like life to me, reasons to stop, reasons to keep goin'."

There's something so chilling yet... relatable.

Americana Horror?

Many years ago, I listened to Alice isn't Dead and it was so impactful that I'm still looking for something to fill the space it left behind for me. I don't think I can name a piece of media that changed my taste in media like this. I fell in love with the atmosphere, the almost eldritch horror of the Thistle Men, the way the highway was almost a character in itself, and of course the road trip nature of the story going from one eerily familiar landmark to the next. When it came out, I even bought the book and read it twice.

I found some other stuff over the years that scratched the itch a bit but never quite suited the niche I was looking for.

Even the novels I'm working on are about an unlikely trio traveling across the states and hunting down creatures of myth and legend while running from the horrors of their pasts (very similar to early Supernatural). One does it as a career, one does it for destiny, and one does it for the thrill.

I adore this "Road Trip" framing for stories like this but I have trouble finding anything new.

Does anyone have any good recommendations? It can be anything, shows, games, books, comics, podcasts, or movies!

Any would be greatly appreciated!

i think the hitchhiker is kind of....lanky and pale and slim but not alarmingly so. i like to think his fingers are just a bit too long and his nails and teeth a bit too sharp. he looks like an average man, albeit well-dressed and very snazzy. he looks like a fine man to the point it's uncanny, it's like his face is just too perfect. until you look a little closer and see how sharp his teeth are. theyre like fangs. his pupils shrink into slits when he talks sometimes. he's pale to the point he almost looks grey, he's tall and thin, and long to the point his limbs look a little strange. he looks perfectly normal except for those little things.

to be fair, he IS perfectly normal upon first glance. but the more you look at him the more you notice little things that are just slightly off. just off enough to be unnerving. he's so proper and friendly it's jarring. he is So creature.

i have so many questions about how it works and what the rules are for its existence

if you walk across a housing estate following the same path and manage to find yourself at the tunnel, will you go onto the same road as the one rob/alice and gang got on with the car crash on the other side of the road and jubilation, or will you get a slightly altered pedestrian route to walk (with hiking gear obv, gotta go prepared)

is it possible to walk it at all or is a car a requirement for the process, if you (before going through the tunnel) were walking and got on a bus or in a taxi for part of the route (not deviating from said route) would you still be in the game, or does the vehicle have to be part of the convoy

if you manage to get onto the road by walking, what about the hitchhiker, do you walk him to where he needs to go, does he stand there idly watching you walk past, does he even show at all, would he kill you if you dont have a car for him

if you were bored one day and just 'what if i took alternating corners just to see where i end up' unprompted by any invitation, will you come across the tunnel, or do you need an invitation, and in turn is the reddit thread a mass invitation to allow as many people onto the road as possible to feed the road
