I find it interesting how with previous tptm songs the songs themselves are really vague while the character page on website elaborates more on the girl, while Refraction Girl is kind of the opposite.

On her profile, we just see some vaguely depressing blinkies and a two sentence suicide note, but in her song, we learn a lot more. I personally think this is because she's a musician. Her music is where she expresses herself, not her social media posts.

She feels alienated from other songwriters who aren't really like her. She's even begun to feel alienated from her own music due to losing the joys in life that it was about. She's quite insecure about her own talents, too, including her music and guitar playing.

She feels painfully lonely and misunderstood, and the implied breakup with a romantic partner likely doesn't help that. She's just given up at this point.

The line "it's all part of the story" stands out to me personally considering it feels strangely self aware? She's part of the tptm. In universe this is likely more her applying the general dehumanization of artists to herself and her pain just being another example.

That's how I interpret the song, anyway.
