honestly I don't know who to scream at, sorry that I picked you at random, but WHY ARE THERE NO FICS FOR INSPECTOR KOO? there is so much to explore there... I just don't understand...
hi anon!!!!! please never apologize for picking me to scream at especially about shows, writing, pairings, plots, scenes, etc! i love getting asks like this! 🖤
hmmm for me personally i think it’s my adhd and because the story was written a little rigidly, especially for kyung-yi/yi kyung—they had a reason to exist and a specific way to respond to everything— i never really think to myself ‘oh what if I changed this’ or ‘if this happened…’ because the leads do what i except them to do and although there is some great acting between the two woman leads there isn’t a strong chemistry that could lead to romance or love or any intense feelings— they feel very… rivalry like two people on the same team who just want to keep one upping each other.
the two pairings that i find myself going back to are kyung yi/santa and geon wook/do hae but they didn’t really give us a lot to go on and the most interesting would be geon wook/do hae to me. (geon wook was my favorite character not gonna lie) i could see myself writing a few fics for both of these pairings but they would be very fluffy and me just giving them endings i prefer (especially my two gays).
so to (hopefully) answer your question i think the show was really great and i liked watching it but the rigid writing and the main chemistry being between the side gay couple sort of settles it in my brain as a —completed show about murder. i’m not actually sure if that makes sense but to me this is a show i would make posts on and rant about the cinematography and how lee hong nae is acting his ass off as these morally ambiguous characters and should keep getting complex rolls… and then maybe randomly write a fic when i got the inspiration or there was like an inspector koo writing week.

Jung Woo-jin and Lim Joo-hwan were not the parents…
Tumblr media
'Three siblings are brave' Min Seong-wook hid the fact that Lim Joo-hwan and Jung Woo-jin were not biological children.
On the 35th episode of KBS 2TV's weekend drama 'Three Siblings Bravely', which aired on the 22nd, Jang Yeong-sik (Min Seong-wook) burned the paternity test results of Lee Sang-joon (Lim Joo-hwan) and Jang Ji-woo (Jung Woo-jin).
On this day, Shin Moo-yeong (Kim Seung-soo) told Kim Gun-woo (Lee Yu-jin) that Jang Hyeon-jeong (Wang Bit-na) was leaving for Chicago. Kim Kun-woo ran to the airport and grabbed Jang Hyun-jung. Kim Gun-woo got angry, saying, "How could you do this to me. How could you do this to me?" Jang Hyun-jung was surprised, saying, "How did you know?"
Kim Gun-woo shouted, "How could you do this to me?", and Jang Hyun-jung nailed it, saying, "It's for you." Kim Geon-woo said, "For me? If it's for me, follow me. I'll tell my family everything today" and took Hyun-jung Jang home.
Coincidentally, the families of both families gathered to discuss the divorce between Lee Sang-jun and Kim Tae-joo. Kim Gun-woo declared, "I'm getting married. My girlfriend is pregnant. Please understand and love me," and brought Hyun-jung Jang into her house. Kim Kun-woo confessed, "The person I will marry is Jang Hyun-jung. We are in love now."
In addition, Lee Sang-joon wondered to Jang Young-sik, "What is the paternity discrepancy report? Subin and Ji-woo saw that my brother was burning something, and they said it was a paternity discrepancy report." It was a paternity test,” he explained.
Lee Sang-jun said, "I thought it was like that then, but now that I think about it, it's strange." Jang Young-sik said, "Yes. I'll be honest. I didn't test Eun-joo and me. "I entrusted the test. It was 20 years ago, so the sample was contaminated. I also received a discrepancy test that said it could not be confirmed. Five out of seven times it came out as a parent."

LOVESTRUCK IN THE CITY // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb puanı: 7,6 Benim Puanım: 6
Drama: Lovestruck in the City / City Couple's Way of Love
Hangul: 도시남녀의 사랑법
Director: Park Shin-Woo
Writer: Jung Hyun-Jung, Jung Da-Yeon
Episodes: 17
Date: 2021
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Ji Chang-Wook, Kim Ji-Won, Kim Min-Suk, So Ju-Yeon, Han Ji-Eun, Ryoo Kyung-Soo
Açıkçası “Slice of life” tarzını severim.
Ji Chang-Wook, The Sound of macig dizisinde hayatıma giren bir oyuncuydu. Kim Ji-Won ise Descendants of the sun ile tanışmıştım.
İkinci çift Choi Kyeong-Jun(Kim Min-Suk) ve Suh Rin-I (So Ju-Yeon) idi.

♚ MUSE’S PROFILE ( ft. wang yeo / verse four )
Tumblr media
BASICS.
FULL    NAME  :  Wang Yeo. NICKNAME  :  Vermeil Guardian. NAME    MEANINGS  : In Old English, ‘Yeo’ means ‘river’ or ‘stream’. In Korean, ‘Yeo’ seems to hold various meanings, such as ‘rule’, ‘beauty’ and ‘remaining’.  HISTORICAL    CONNECTION ?  : Yeo’s surname definitely has historical connection. ‘Wang’ comes from Wang Geon, the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty. As such, during the Goryeo era, Kings acquired the surname of ‘Wang’, which means ‘King’. It is, in a way, understood that Yeo’s family comes from that bloodline. Yeo isn’t directly connected to this, though, since he was adopted in this verse.  AGE  :  Over 800 years old.  ETHNIC    GROUP  :   East Asian. NATIONALITY  : Korean. LANGUAGES  :   Fluent in Korean (both the ancient and modern form), KSL, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese and English. Mildly fluent in Thai and Vietnamese.  SEXUAL    ORIENTATION  :  Pansexual. ROMANTIC    ORIENTATION  :  Panromantic.  RELATIONSHIP    STATUS  :   In his main arc he’s taken heart and soul by KIM SHIN.  CLASS  : High-Class.  HOME    TOWN  /  AREA  :  A forest in Gaekyong (modern day Kaesong), Korea.  CURRENT    HOME  :  Seoul, South Korea.  PROFESSION  : Guardian of sorts, but also a lowkey entrepreneur.
PHYSICAL. HAIR  : Fiery red, short on the back and with parted bangs (parted fringe) on the front. Very lush and lustrous.  EYES  :  Brown, but turn amber when threatened, experiencing strong emotions or when using some of his powers.  NOSE  :   Longish, straight bridge, base of the nose a little lowered.  FACE  :  Looks a lot like Lee Dong Wook, they could be twins--LMAO WIEHDWUIEDH LIPS  :   Has a natural shade of rich pink that almost looks red, bottom lip a little fuller compared to upper lip; upper lip resembles the upper part of a heart (bow-shaped lips).  COMPLEXION  :  Fair complexion; can’t tan easily (usually burns).  SCARS  :  None, they all disappear due to his moderately rapid healing.  TATTOOS  :  None. PIERCINGS: None.  HEIGHT  :  6′1″ feet or 186 cm.  BUILD  :  Athletic; lean muscle.  USUAL  HAIR  STYLE  : As seen on the gif in the beginning of this post.  USUAL  FACE  LOOK  : Smug, serene, like he has everything under control.  USUAL    CLOTHING  :  Refer to this post.  PSYCHOLOGY. FEARS  :  Never being able to atone for his sins, never being able to get rid of his heavy guilt; being unable to protect the ones he’s fond of; losing the people he’s fond of.  ASPIRATIONS  :   I think he really just wants to have peace of mind; really wishes the culpability would stop gnawing at his insides.  POSITIVE    TRAITS  :  Loyal, determined, caring, dutiful, passionate, artistic; witty.
NEGATIVE    TRAITS  :  Stubborn, childish at times, reckless, wary, sometimes heavily sarcastic that he might tug at sensitive strings without noticing; sly.  MBTI  : I did a test for him a little while ago and he got ISFP-T (The Adventurer) ; not sure if it’s accurate, though? I’ll probably do another one soonish--- ZODIAC  :  N/A, but most things point to him being a Capricorn--- TEMPERAMENT  : Choleric.  ANIMALS  :  Fox 🦊 VICE  : Getting in trouble it seems, also anything flower-infused (especially if it has azaleas in it) and Kim Shin 👀. FAITH  :  Agnostic. GHOSTS  ?  :  Yes. AFTERLIFE  ?  : Yes. REINCARNATION  ?  :  Definitely. ALIENS  ?  :  Has heard about them in tales, he’s just like ‘if they’re written in books, just like my kind is written in books, then they might exist, too’.  POLITICAL    ALIGNMENT  :  Doesn’t really bother about thinking of this.  ECONOMIC    PREFERENCE  : He does like to live comfortably, so as long as he has the means to live within the comfort he prefers, he’ll be okay.  EDUCATION    LEVEL  :   Doesn’t have an actual degree, has acquired his education through lessons when he was King (through scholars) and through experiences lived.  FAMILY. FATHER  : Father by blood not known; he only knows that due to his nature, his father must be a full-fledged nine-tailed fox as well. Adoptive father, King during the Goryeo era; deceased. MOTHER  :  Mother by blood not known; in this case, he also thinks that his mother must be a full-fledged nine-tailed fox. Adoptive mother, Queen during the Goryeo era; didn’t get to know her, for she passed away before he was found in the forest.  SIBLINGS  :  Adoptive brother, King of Goryeo after their father passed away; deceased. In his main arc, LEE RANG is his brother by blood (same father), but he’s unaware of this.  EXTENDED    FAMILY  :  N/A.  FAVOURITES. BOOK  :   Doesn’t have a specific one but he really enjoys folktales and comparing them to his actual reality. MOVIE  : My Neighbor Totoro.  5    SONGS : In this verse, Yeo doesn’t really listen to music a lot. He thinks it’s distracting and his ears aren’t really keen on listening to it, especially if it’s too loud. He prefers the ‘songs of nature’; birds chirping, the wind blowing, the river flowing, etc.  DEITY  :  Kim Shin 👀💖 HOLIDAY  :  He enjoys Chuseok and Seollal.  MONTH  :   Months of Spring.  SEASON  : Spring. PLACE  :  Forests and anything that has nature in it. WEATHER  : Spring weather, where it’s not too cold nor too hot.  SOUND  : Sounds of nature and Kim Shin’s voice, mainly.  SCENTS  :  Royal azaleas, condensed milk, fresh grass, cherry blossoms, sweet pears, any sweet scent coming from fruit, cinnamon rolls, honey, the scent of people he’s fond of; Kim Shin’s scent.  TASTES  :   Cold sweets (like Patbingsu, Halo-Halo and ice cream), royal azaleas, honeysuckles, basically most sweet edible flowers, Hwajeon, Dugyeonju; Kim Shin’s lips--- FEELS  :   Petals or grass under his fingers, the fuzzy feeling of the skin of peaches, breeze hitting his face; fingers running through his hair, Shin’s touch.  ANIMALS  : He appreciates all animals, doesn’t have a favorite, but he’ll probably tell you that his favorite is the fox because ‘foxes are very neat, don’t you think?’ whilst pointing at himself--- NUMBER  :   3 COLORS  :  Shades of pink and red; sunset colors.  EXTRA. TALENTS  :  Surviving, wielding a sword, drawing/sketching, recognizing people by scent alone, elaborating natural or herbal remedies; being sassy and reckless. BAD  AT  : Fully admitting his feelings right away, letting others win without a fight, staying out of trouble; cooking.  TURN    ONS  :  KIM SHIN---(ahEM), but I mean, if we’re going on...specific characteristics, then: confidence, strength, goodness of heart; appreciation toward nature, ability to keep up with banters; knowledge and/or experience, well-versed in things like books or art.  TURN    OFFS  :  Pushiness, selfishness, extreme naivety, malice, empty words, disloyalty, being ridiculed.  HOBBIES  :  Drawing/sketching, visiting forests and parks and anything that has to do with nature, buying something sweet to brighten up the day, reading, making herbal concoctions, picking up petals and leaves from the ground and saving them to make decorations for his cabin. AESTHETIC  : Crowns of flowers, a red fox sleeping between the bushes, hand holding sword’s grip, flowers pressed upon skin, brushes inside a cup, royal azaleas, tarnished crown, bloody palms, amber fire, cinnabar crystals, ancient palaces; tea with petals. QUOTES  :   “far off, full of sorrow, centuries old” ; “you are haunted by memories that linger like a softly uttered curse” ; “no risk, no story.”  FC  INFO. MAIN    FC  : Lee Dong Wook ALT    FC  : N/A OLDER    FC  : N/A YOUNGER    FC  :  Kim Min-jae VOICE    CLAIM  : Lee Dong Wook  MUN  QUESTIONS. Q1  :  If you could write your character your way in their own movie , what    would  it  be  called ,  what  style would it be filmed in, and what would it be about ?   A1 :  It’d probably be called ‘Vermeil Guardian’, since that’s the name of this verse. As for the style...OH MAN, I’m not very good when it comes to describe film styles, but maybe...it could fall into a film of action and fantasy; perhaps with a bit of mystery. I’d also love for it to be a portal that explains the connections forged throughout this verse and why he came to be the one he is now.   Q2  :  What would their soundtrack / score sound like  ? A2  :   OKAY, SO, I’M SO!!! EXCITED TO MENTION THIS, BECAUSE, PLEASE, I’D LIKE EVERYONE TO SEE THIS AMAZING PLAYLIST LENA (AKA @mythvoiced / @gdmonster) DID FOR THIS VERSE---THIS IS THE PERFECT SOUNDTRACK, THIS IS FLAWLESS, THIS HAS ALL THE HECKIN’ VIBES AND I LOVE IT SO FREAKIN’ MUCH!!! If someone asked me how would I describe this verse through music then I’D SHOW THEM THIS PLAYLIST because it’s seriously ON POINT and I can’t tHANK LENA ENOUGH--- Q3  :     Why did you start writing this character  ? A3  :    This particular version of Yeo I wished to develop when I finished watching the drama Tale Of Nine-Tailed (TONT - 10/10 recommend); I really wanted to make a verse that could have a mixture of the elements of TONT with Yeo’s original/canon timeline, so I tried my best to come up with an idea that could reflect that as to give Yeo another path but, also, as to not walk too far away from Yeo’s essence.
Q4  :   What  first  attracted  you  to  this  character  ? A4  :  The prospect of something new, something different; the idea of Yeo keeping memories of his past and not turning into a grim reaper but actually being born as a supernatural creature. The presence of ‘what if’s’ and the idea that these questions could be answered by developing this verse.
Q5  : Describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse.  ? A5  :  Hmm...I don’t think there’s something I dislike about him; AS IN?? He has his flaws, but I wouldn’t necessarily say that I dislike his flaws because that makes him who he is, along with his virtues. But if I had to choose, I guess that I dislike how insanely reckless he can be whenever there’s this stubborn need to do something because he puts himself in danger and doesn’t realize it until it’s done. Though, he’s been getting better at that and that’s because he’s met wonderful people who actually?? Make him think twice before doing something impulsively.  Q6  :      What    do    you    have    in    common    with    your    muse  ?   A6  :    OH MAN, I don’t...think we have a lot of things in common, which is cool because that means Yeo is a delightful challenge that I really enjoy taking. But I’m guessing that one of the few things we have in common is that we see the good in others whenever we can. We also like shaved ice, but he likes it more than I do.  Q7  : How  does your muse feel about you  ?   A7  :  I think he’d probably be annoyed with some of my habits, and I’d be the kind to scold him continuously over some of the heedless things he does. It’d be the whole ‘I tease and reprimand you because I care about you’ sort of thing IWUEHDIUEHD  Q8  :   What    characters    does    your    muse    have    interesting    interactions  with  ? A8  :   OH BOY, OOOOOOHHHHHH BOY, LET ME JUST, LET ME (TAKES A DEEP INHALE AND EXHALE);; I’m seriously SO FORTUNATE to have such AMAZING interactions in this verse, I love them ALL and he’s had such great development mainly because of the muses he interacts with. Since this question asks for SPECIFICS:
@mythvoiced‘s brilliant muses (Kim Shin, Ji Miyoung, Yi Seona, Lee Rang---): WHERE DO I EVEN START, HOW TO PROPERLY THANK FOR ALL OF THESE BEAUTIFUL DYNAMICS AND THE PLOTS WE’VE CREATED IN THIS VERSE, I JUST??? THIS ONCE LONELY FOX IS NOW 1) FULLY IN LOVE (A WHOLE SIMP), 2) WILLING TO GIVE HIS LIFE IF NEEDED FOR HIS WONDERFUL FRIEND, 3) CONFUSED BECAUSE WHY WAS HE SUMMONED AND WHY IS SHE SO INTERESTED IN GUMIHO, 4) DEALING WITH BROTHERLY FEELINGS AND INEXPLICABLE FAMILIARITY, ALL THANKS TO THESE INTERCONNECTED INTERACTIONS; I’D DIE FOR LENA AND HER MUSES, I’D CREATE A NEW UNIVERSE FOR THEM, I’D---LENA IF YOU’RE READING THIS, YOU’RE AMAZING AND I LOVE YOU TONS, THANK YOU---
@lostsovl‘s QUEEN, Valerie: Absolutely love Valerie and her will to keep pushing Yeo’s buttons to the point where they both end up engaging in rather chaotic fights; what’s best is that regardless of this incessant teasing, they end up helping each other and being there for one another in their own ways. I also adore that they’ve known each other for centuries and sort of have seen the changes they’ve gone through. ALSO MAR IS WONDERFUL AND I’M SO VERY THANKFUL FOR HER AND THE OPPORTUNITY SHE’S GIVEN MY MUSES AND I ;W;, SENDING YOU SO MUCH LOVE.
@sncwflxke‘s mischievous but LOVELY Jinwoo: Jinwoo is such a fun, sweet and interesting character and I’m so glad that Yeo gets to interact with him!! Absolutely adore how they instantly clicked on their very first thread together and how they’re willing to learn about one another ;W;!! I can’t wait to develop more things for them and see the rest of their adventures (let’s be sure to keep them away from bodies of water though LMAO); would also like to add that Ellie is so very nice, welcoming AND A SWEETHEART, REALLY; thank you so much for writing with me!!!
Q9  :    What    gives    you    inspiration    to    write    your    muse  ? A9  :  Anything that reminds me of this verse or the dynamics being developed in this verse, such as music, pictures, gifsets, quotes, etc. I also get very inspired with further plotting, when I get to discuss and talk about different ideas with wonderful writers!! Also anything Kim Shin inspires me to write Yeo because he wakes up instantly, HE’S A WHOLE SIMP, THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED FOR A WHILE NOW---
Q10  :  How    long    did    this    take    you    to    complete  ?   A10  :  A LONG TIME LMAO, probably MONTHS. I was writing it little by little; bit by bit. Loved filling it out, though! Might do another one for another verse!

Okay, what is it about ‘Lovestruck In the City’ that’s rubbing me the wrong way?
I was super into the mockumentary concept about a group of people, and I enjoyed the first two full length beauty shot advertisements episodes. Maybe I’m reading too much into this but:
I thought this was a slice of life about a bunch of acquaintances and their dating lives but instead it’s more about one couple who are a bit tiring.
I’m not into Ji Chang Wook’s character all that much. He’s kind of obsessive & petty and like, he cannot understand how anyone would break up with him (life when you’re hot lol) I mean WE know why Lee Eun-O broke up with him but he doesn’t, so his response a year later (wearing the ring, constantly pining at work, etc) just feels really over the top. It’s supposed to be funny and endearing, but I wouldn’t date a guy who acted like that. Just saying.
I understand that Eun-O broke up with him because she didn’t think he’d like her as she really is (because of literally one thing he said once) but the noble idiocy of that. I mean, give him some credit? Try communicating? You’re literally running around town hiding from him?
They spent sooooo much time focusing on the main couple and when they finally get to the 10 year relationship, turns out dude is just a creepy stalker? Yeesh, that backstory can we forget it ever happened?
Oh Seon-Yeong is the kinda girl I love to love in k-dramas. She’s strong, sassy and really feels herself. But by episode seven you realize she’s super possessive and doesn’t allow her boyfriends to have female friends #red flag.  The joke of her demanding all of the gifts back, I dunno I guess my sense of humor is just different?
Ok, now that I’m reading this list, I’ve figured out what’s bothering me - everyone’s personalities! Can anyone in this show act like a mature human being? Oh right: Kang Geon can!

Ahn So-hee, an excellent reasoning for elaborate operation design
Tumblr media
In the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'Missing: They Were There 2' Ahn So-hee is playing a brainchild between Go Soo and Heo Jun-ho.
'Missing: They Were There 2' (Director Min Yeon-Hong Lee Ye-Rim/Screenwriter Ban Gi-Ri Jeong So-Young/Planning Studio Dragon/Producer Mace Entertainment Doo Frame/Hereafter 'Missing 2') is a reactivated 'missing people', a new village of spirits, and their earnestness. A fantasy chase drama of 'The Soul Seeing Combi'.
It is heart-wrenching with a warm-toned story that uncovers the truth behind the deaths of the residents of the 3rd industrial complex in the village of spirits and allows them to overcome resentment and sublimate.
Among them, Lee Jong-ah (played by Ahn So-hee), based on her excellent hacking skills, plays a big role as a brain helping Kim Wook (played by Go Soo) and Pan-seok Jang (played by Heo Jun-ho), exuding a strong presence. He helps the investigation of the case of Kim Wook, Jang Pan-seok and Detective Shin Joon-ho (Ha Joon) by finding all the people of the Soul Village Industrial Complex 3, from their personal information to their whereabouts at the time of their disappearance, even with small clues.
Lee Jong-ah not only makes perfect inferences based on the collected information, but also sets up a meticulous strategy to catch the criminals who harmed the missing people, adding to the speed of solving the case with quick brain rotation and executive power.
In particular, in episode 7, Lee Jong-ah uses the mountain location signs 1-8 that Jang Pan-seok found in a picture of a child, Iroha (Kim Ha-eon), as a clue, and quickly searches for mountains with the same sign, which is the mountain with the highest probability of having Iroha's body. Following the discovery, he repeatedly emphasized the sign to Detective Il-Doo Baek (Ji-Han) of the missing team to induce a search.
In episode 10, Lee Jong-ah heard that the serial killer who killed Jang Pan-seok's daughter's local friends was related to the Blue Bird Hope Foundation, and analyzed all the volunteers' applications to find out that the serial killer was caregiver Kim Gun-joo (played by Oh Yoon-hong). Moreover, he played a big role in uncovering all the additional crimes of Kim Geon-joo, who had been murdering poor people in the name of making them peaceful.
Lee Jong-ah opened a cafe near Industrial Complex 3 to cover the expenses needed to find the missing people, and set up a new hideout to facilitate the investigation. A bar that warms the heart by doing its best. Expectations are rising as to what kind of activity Lee Jong-ah will do in the future as a strong supporter of Kim Wook and Jang Pan-seok.

Lovestruck in The City: Love Is Messy
 Year: 2020-2021
Channel: Kakao TV
Streaming Service: Netflix
Cast: Ji Chang Wook, Kim Ji Won, Soo Joo Yeon, Kim Min Soek, Han Ji Eun, Ryu Kyung Soo
Lovestruck in the City is an unusual drama for more reasons than one. It ditches the sixteen episode one hour each format for a thirty minute seventeen episode format. Additionally, it employs the “mockumentary” style à la Office and Parks and Recreation, and unlike other dramas, which release their episodes on two consecutive days each week, Lovestruck in the City aired on Tuesdays and Friday. It boasts an ensemble cast composed of Ji Chang Wook, Park Ji Won, Soo Joo Yeon, Kim Min Soek, Han Ji Eun, and Ryu Kyung Soo. Lovestruck in The City has a very Friends-esque appeal with a story of six individuals, whose lives are interconnected with each other.
Park Jae Won is an architect who meets Yoon Seon Ah during his vacation on Yamyang Island. Both have a passionate summer fling that abruptly ends when Park Jae Won returns to Seoul. Jae Won is left heartbroken when he is unable to reunite with Seon Ah. On the other hand, Yoon Seon Ah, whose real name is really Lee Eun Oh, is a marketer, who hides her feelings for Jae Won, because of her guilt of lying to him about her real identity and for pretending to be someone she’s not. Lee Eun Oh also happens to be Kang Geon’s roommate, a novel writer, who has had a tumultous relationship with the eccentric Sun Young. Kang Geon and Lee Eun Oh are also best friends with Sun Ri-ni who is in a stable long term relationship with Choi Kyeong Jun,who also just happens to Park Jae Won’s cousin and co-worker. Pretty crazy and confusing right? Here’s a diagram that I made to better visualize the relationship:
Tumblr media
Park Jae Won is perhaps Ji Chang Wook’s career best role. This was my first time watching a Ji Chang Wook drama to completion and from the clips that I’ve seen of him in other drams, I’m convinced that what he did in Lovestruck in The City was something that was outside of his comfort zone and yet he played the role so effortlessly. There was something so inherently powerful and moving about watching a man express his vulnerability so openly. We see Jae Won struggle with his inability to completely let go of the Yoon Seon Ah and the memories that he cherished with her even at the cost of mockery by his friends and family. We see him drunkenly visiting police stations to file a complaint against the “camera thief” that didn’t just steal his camera, but also his heart. Jae Won’s character is what in many ways what allow us to appreciate the complexity of Eun Oh’s character. She’s a character that the audience incredibly detests for leaving Jae Won stranded and yet she makes us wonder if we judge women too quickly. Through the course of the show, we see Eun Oh as a wonderfully messy woman trying to navigate her own identity after undergoing one of the lowest points in her life. Eun Oh is a woman crawling out of an identity crisis as she reconciles her constructed identity of Yoon Seon Ah with who she was and wants to be. Seeing thes two fall apart then reunite and find their happiness is where the show’s true purpose lies.
As hinted in the last sentence of the paragraph, the show is definitely more centered on Park Jae Won and Lee Eun Oh’s relationship than the other two couples and the writing surrounding the other characters feel weak at times. We never truly understand why Kang Geon and Sun Young liked each other in the first place and why she felt like she needed to let him go even though they were already broken up. Suh Rini and Kyeong Jun’s relationship felt like it abruptly ended and I don’t think the argument they had warrants enough for a breakup. For some reason, the stories of these two feels very incomplete and is only exacerbated with the last episode focusing on a completely different couple that was not part of the show. I also want to add that I felt like Sun Young’s character was extremely underdeveloped with her coming off as nothing other than the “psycho bitch” trope who’s here for the dark humor - a woman who’s badass with no cause or direction.
Regardless, I applaud Lovestruck in the City for adopting a new inventive format and managing to successfully pull it through. Perhaps the biggest lesson that Lovestruck in the City teaches us is that love doesn’t cause everything to fall in the right place. It’s a tornado that sometimes makes our life a jumbled mess. However, the pursuit of putting those pieces back together with your significant other is what offers us the true contentment in our relationships.
