My trip to Kaua'i, Hawai'i

Yellow Hibiscus: The state flower of Hawai'i. Called the “pua mao hau hele” or “Ma’o hau hele” in the Hawaiian Language (ʻŌlelo).

Nēnē (Hawaiian Goose): The rarest waterfowl in the world. Nearly brought to extinction in 1990 with 50 wild individuals. Captive-breeding programs and reintroduction efforts have given the native nēnē a chance with now over 3,862 birds statewide. I was lucky enough to see wild nēnē goslings. Very special.

Honu (Green Sea Turtle): An endangered species most commonly found near the Hawaiian Island Chain. Typically reaching sexual maturity around 20 years of age, Green sea turtles nest on the same beach where they hatched. This is a photo I took of a female rising up from the shore to lay her eggs.

Kaua'i is one of many islands comprising the Hawaiian Volcanic Island Archipelago. I bought a Kaua'i Geologic History Book to learn more about the island and I am very excited to read it.

There are lots of things to criticize about the RTD era of Doctor Who but let me offer a different criticism than normal: RTD dresses his Doctors in normal people clothes.

That's normal clothes! Leather jacket, suit, other suit (admittedly with a splash of color). If whoever you were talking to knew nothing about Doctor Who, you could get away with wearing that to a job interview! Nine's a little grungy but it's not that out there.

Compared to the other Doctors...

Like, that's all bonkers. Eleven's approaches normal but I think is offset by the fact that Matt Smith was super young and wearing clothes for the oldest man ever (yeah, it's the Doctor, I know). But, like, look at all the velvet! The insane color choices! Whatever the hell Five and Seven have going on! If I wore any of these things, people would know immediately that I have an unhealthy relationship with this show! That is what I think costuming for the Doctor should be all about, and RTD doesn't manage it.

(Edit to add: Don't get me wrong, I do love RTD's version of the show. I have a lot of criticisms about every era <3)

I’m playing infinite wealth rn and I’m rly charmed with it. It’s interesting to see what locations were changed for the game and what parts were kept realistic. It’s so strange seeing areas me and my friends would hang out.

Another study update after two months ⊹₊｡ꕤ˚₊⊹

These last two months, I've been studying for the university entrance exams, so I've been studying other stuff more. I could go on and on about how I hate these upcoming exams but let's not get into it

Korean

My Korean reading skills are good, but I have trouble producing text and speech. I've been focusing on immersion more again after for like two years of not caring much.

Ainu & Japanese

These two actually go hand-in-hand now. All the Ainu content I read has Japanese subtitles, so whatever I read in Ainu I also get to read in Japanese. I also take notes in Japanese. Ainu has been surprisingly easy for me. I wish there was more content about it in English (or maybe I need to make it? Would you read it?) because this language is so fun and easy in my opinion!

Dutch

I've been studying Dutch steadily but I feel little progress. It's so similar to Swedish that I understand most texts already. I need to focus on output more.

Mongolian

No progress this time.

Hawaiian

I've been studying it on and off, but I've gotten stuck many times by all the word order rules and other stuff. The lack of resources is also annoying me.

Mandarin & Cantonese

Not much regular studying but a lot of passive input.

Tibetan

Some beginner practice. Tibetan has a lot of resources which surprised me! The spelling is complicating my journey but I feel like this language is beautiful and I will not let it stand in my way!

picking flowers grown in your own backyard or calling up a friend who grows the flower you are looking for, picking enough of them to make an entire strand, gifting the lei to someone by laying it on them yourself and they must hug you to show gratitude, wearing the lei and everyone around you being able to smell the perfume of the flowers, the flowers wilting and turning brown from the heat of your skin, taking the lei off and saving it, letting the flowers dry and then returning it to the earth
