Dan gets mistaken as Danny by his teammates. He tries to explain he's not Danny but they don't believe him. Instead they jump to the conclusion that he's Danny who's somehow being brainwashed. Because that makes more sense of course.

okay more totk rewritten/botw2 wips

bc of a whole lot of changed mechanics (too long to put on here) i wanted each layer of the map to have their own "horse" .. or at least the sky (unsure about the underground)- im very attached to the idea of there being an ancient shiekah monk thats been up there for thousands of years all alone, they are mute and an odd fellow but they would serve as your hub to register tamed birds at (since you cant just fly here (parasail + hookshot only) and replenishing stamina is also limited due to the changed healing/cooking mechanic making you unable to use potions while holding the parasail) that you can call when you are in the sky giving you a little boost in height and depending on their strength perhaps also grabbing onto you/the parasail to glide without using stamina for a very short bit

now, the thing is, i cant decide whether i want them to be a hunched over granpa or a fromsoft-esque long tall thin corpse-guy

I keep thinking about Haymitch’s use of the word “lifetimes”.

It’s one he uses in his own narration, especially when it comes to his love for Lenore Dove.

But where did we see it before?

“You could live a hundred lifetimes and not deserve him.”

We know for a fact Haymitch sees Burdock, Maysilee and Louella in Katniss. His best friend’s daughter, wearing his sister’s pin, looking too much like his sweetheart.

But who IS Peeta to Haymitch?

A calculated rebel. A quietly angry artist. A fierce protector. A hopeful teenager. An objector.

One that was almost poisoned in the hands of Snow.

There’s two schools of thought here:

1. He sees Lenore Dove in him.

Full of love and anger. Full of sacrifice and always full of hope. Lenore Dove, like Peeta, represents hope and change in the series. While Haymitch accepts the reapings. Lenore insists that one day the sun will stop rising on them. Lenore’s association with dove coloured things leads him to safety (see the bunny). Peeta’s association with dandelions and orange coloured things does the same thing to Katniss.

He sees someone he couldn’t protect.

Going back to the “lifetimes” line.

Haymitch clearly feels immensely guilty for choosing Katniss in the arena. In the same vein of Haymitch being similar to Katniss, he chose himself over Lenore Dove.

But Haymitch couldn’t stop Lenore Dove from being poisoned. And Katniss stopped Peeta from eating the berries.

So when Peeta is the first one to find him after the Quell is announced, begging him to let him die to save Lenore Katniss, how can Haymitch even say no. Haymitch who would die a hundred times over to bring Lenore back. Who kissed her poisoned lips to join her in whatever afterlife she believed in.

2. He sees his younger self in him.

Yeah, yeah… Katniss and Haymitch have this weird psychic connection between them that Peeta is forever left out of, but if Peeta is a lover, then Haymitch is a yearner.

Haymitch kept Lenore Dove’s memory with him until the end of his life. Haymitch with his raven poem. Haymitch with seeing Lenore Dove everywhere - even when he’s half dead. Haymitch who is stable enough to be there, until Lenore Dove dies.

Haymitch who sees an equal amount of love in Peeta for Katniss, and then in Katniss for Peeta.

Haymitch who maybe knows that Peeta will refuse to stay alive if Katniss dies. Haymitch who knew Katniss was one death away from being like him.

Personally, I lean more in the first theory. I think that Lenore Dove is to Haymitch what Peeta is to Katniss. Hope. A better future where children can play safely. A future where the sun doesn’t rise on the reaping.

When Lenore dies, Haymitch sees her memory. When Peeta is in the Capitol presumed dead, Katniss is kissing the pearl, seeing him.

I think we can also safely presume that Peeta’s narration would echo Haymitch’s. Because in the end of the day Haymitch’s narration is forever reflective of Lenore Dove. And in the same vein Peeta’s narration would be reflective of Katniss.
