#BECAUSE LIKE. UGH i'm VERY normal about thomas and arthur i NEVER post abt them but like#UGHHHHI HAVE THOUGHTS#like. imagine having to watch your best friend waste away after the death of his son. imagine having to see him crumple#in real time. imagine being the person he leans on for support. imagine him taking you for a LIAR. imagine him being mad at you#for something you didn't even do. imagine him KILLING you. your BEST FRIEND just killed you.#imagine him stuffing your soul into a machine. imagine him DISRESPECTING your dead body like that.#imagine not seeing him for 40 years. imagine being able to soak in your anger and rage about it.#imagine your best friend being there during the LOWEST point in your life. imagine him being like a rock for you. he'll do ANYTHING for you#so it's not out of the question to ask him to watch your family while you take time to yourself.#imagine noticing how... close he's getting with your wife. how strangely *close* they are now.#imagine seeing him standing in front of the charred remains of your home. the home he was SUPPOSED to keep safe.#imagine killing him. taking his life in the most violet way you can manage. imagine not entirely being yourself in that moment#imagine realizing what you've done. imagine bringing him back but it's all... wrong.#imagine running back into him DECADES later. and the first words out of his mouth to you are “ what the fuck did you do. ”#i just. GOD. UGH.#bonnie does art!!#andy's apple farm#thomas eastwood#arthur king#and like. i guess#andy the apple#claus the clock#considering they're being used as vessels for thomas n arthur

Another question for the Skulduggery Pleasant fandom, because I've just finished reading the Haunted House on Hollow Hill, and I feel like I'm missing something.
Below the cut 'cause this is, y'know, a murder mystery
Do we get two explanations for how the police officer (Dudley) dies? First is that Grody killed him (and is used as an alibi for Grody & how there is more than one killer abroad) and the other is that Terry did it (and he openly admits it) - the second option is clearly the correct one, given the confession, but it just felt odd that there's not even a nod back to the first red herring.
#skulduggery pleasant#the haunted house on hollow hill#i enjoyed the book a lot! chuckled a lot#but#but but but it feels... still a lil rough?#like it could have gone through another round of editing to smooth it out#i did enjoy the clear riffing on the murder mystery genre (my beloved)#and the constable climbing back in through a window feels like a reference to the mousetrap play#but what the hell was with the 'dont you think its a waste when pretty people die' bit#like. i feel like maybe that was meant to be foreshadowing?? a very shaky maybe#but i feel like there should have been a reference back to it#and derek is doing his usual trick of inventing new magic mechanics we've never seen before#but thats par for the course so i cant be surprised#same with skullduggery's over complicated puzzle solving that are like#'ah yes this clue relies on such obscure knowledge and loose conjecture that none of this is logical anymore'#and sure. in a prev book this does get called out#and yet [gestures to this book]#look. i like riddles as much as the next person#but the sharp riddle barely made sense even when the answer was revealled#like. maaaaybe this was riffing on the overly complicated clues you get in murder mysteries?#but then that would really be leaning more on the sherlockian deduction trope#insane how many people leave full on escape room style puzzles just lying around in the SP universe#anyway. rambles over. feel free to shout at me why im wrong#but like i said this story just felt. rough.#i do think he has improved over the years#his descriptions are smoother than they used to be and more evocative#and the humour is still top notch

every year around this time I rewatch Julie and the Phantoms, and every year I am reminded how much heart this little tween show about grief and hope has
#more thoughts in the tags#it is at times what the kids call 'cringe' - or it would be - if it wasn't so earnest#sometimes you don't need a perfect budget or 20-somethings pretending to be teenagers#or a large following or sequel appeal#sometimes you don't need big complicated anythings to make a story that ought to be told or a show that ought to be seen#sometimes you need to cast children as child characters#and come up with a theme that everyone can feel on some level [death] [hope] [love]#and choose loud colorful costumes and big cheesy music numbers and silly gags and over-the-top bully characters for the FUN of it#and pour every ounce of heart you've got into it and if netflix cancels it after one season? you gave that one season your all#jatp#there's a difference between big-budget stories written to profit from lust or shock or violence--#--and stories that are written for younger people and dealing with something people of all ages will eventually encounter#stories that are written about characters who lean on loved ones and focus on what they can do with what they've got#characters who are determined not to waste their lives or the gifts they've been given and instead to push on with excellence#specifically in order to benefit others#and what a bonus if the young lead actress is an incredibly-talented darling who is not sexualized by any part of the show in any way#what a bonus-bonus if the other protagonists are three good-looking dead dudes from the 90's (just because the writers COULD)#who are so openly affectionate and brotherly and huggable that you genuinely watch and think 'I hate that they died'. and you're SUPPOSED t#that it perfectly portrays what a real healthy best-friendship looks like - both for girls AND boys#that it perfectly portrays what TEENAGERS can be like#(not the high school. the high school is insane. it is cartoonish. I am 98% sure current high schools aren't blue and furry like that.)#and the main ship? luke and julie? that is seven-layer bean dip romance right there#like an onion. LAYERS to unpack#they did not have to make the ghost boy who seems most unbothered by death go back to his parents' home and weep#where he thought no one could see him. weep over lost time and past mistakes he can never take back. because he was loved#and loved unconditionally even if things were hard sometimes. kids need to see that in shows#they need to see that good parents are not perfect AND good parents love you. and that YOU are not always right#and that life is too short to let the sun go down on your freaking anger. open up your mouth and talk to the people you love and try.#the nuance of the bully character? that Carrie is a hard worker and talented JUST LIKE JULIE#and using it for ALL the wrong reasons in all the wrong ways

i get so much whiplash every time u talk about cullen on here. do u love him? do u hate him? secret third thing??
sorry anon!
this is so funny to me though. i mean this so sincerely: i would be fascinated to hear where u got the idea of me being a cullenite from. i am not that!
i wouldn’t say i hate him either though. he’s not blorbo to me, but i do think cullen as a character has an interesting premise. his trajectory from da:o -> da2 is REALLY compelling to me (especially if we reject bioware retcon and run with the premise that he DID kill those apprentices at kinloch before he was transferred to kirkwall)
unfortunately, dai romance cullen is the least interesting his character has ever been to me!!
i do think digging deeper into the idea of the lyrium leash & the chantry exploitation of templars was the right move for inquisition, but i feel like we got that at the expense of actually dealing with anything that happened in kinloch and kirkwall? there was some dialogue about it, but overall the romance felt like one where you could easily have swapped in any templar at all, and it wouldn’t have changed a thing. i don’t think that’s true of sera and the jennies. i don’t think that’s true of iron bull & ben-hassrath/vashoth. i don’t think it’s true of dorian & altus mages. i think their romances and arcs are inextricable from their personal backstories in a way that cullen’s just doesn’t feel like it is!
all this to say dai cullen i could take or leave but da2 cullen “mages aren’t people like you or me” rutherford is a compelling character (w/ some rly crunchy reasons for being the Way He Is) + i think him and meredith have a really interesting dynamic there that i enjoy thinking about.

DC should not only hire me as a writer but give me the full rights to Tim Drake: Robin so I can rewrite it and twist it into a horror series. HEAR ME OUT BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH POTENTIAL

Crafting update: I had the day off work, so I ran some errands and overdid it enough that my heart rate was acting up, so I decided it was a "sit and crochet" kind of day, except I overdid that too so now I have an almost-finished crocheted cauldron and a blister attempting to form on my finger, so no more crochet for me for a few days lol

What if Floyd never went back to Branch not because he was unable to, nor because he didn't miss his baby brother, but because he was ashamed of who he'd become in the time since they'd last met, and he'd rather Branch remember him as he once was than see him as the disgrace he is now

Got a bit monochrome over here lately, how about some eyestrain to change things up? :P
Concept Art thingie, the goal is to create a ready-to-go Squad of characters for RotOW. I kinda just want to sketch lots of wacky outfits and then pretend there's a use for them :³

i don't wanna know who i am, 'cause heaven only knows what i'll find. i don't wanna know i'm not capable of coming out alive. i don't wanna see what's inside. i think i would rather be blind. i don't wanna know i'm not capable, i'm capable.

Season three is smitten with its gorgeously plated delectables; let’s acknowledge the human cost of this perishable perfection, it whispers, while also savoring it. That’s more than simple decadence. Artful food prep edifies, this show believes. The Bear’s working-class characters experience life-changing transformations in the first two seasons, to genuinely moving effect. Tina (Liza Colón-Zayas), Marcus (Lionel Boyce), and Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)—who prep food, make desserts, and host guests, respectively—enjoy an almost religious grace after making exacting, depersonalizing commitments to their crafts. They lose themselves in a calling and find themselves remade, members of an elect. They remain wage workers in a brutally exploitative industry and live in one of the United States’ most violently segregated cities, polishing forks and tweezing herbs for the rich. But they now belong to the kingdom of Art, The Bear reassures us. The Bear wants to capture the physically and psychically draining grind that makes haute cuisine go, while also adoring the food that business produces; it wants to send up the managerial abuse rampant in the fine-dining industry, while also heaping adulation on famous chefs, many of whom appear in cameos. Throughout, fine dining is something less than the act of “nurture” that Thomas Keller, who appears as himself, purports. But it could be, season three seems earnestly to believe, if only its talented stars would get out of their own way. There’s too much beauty in fine dining, too much painfully exquisite sublimation, too much clarifying elegance for it not to save lives. In its mimetic longing for that beauty and elegance—its hope that it might become as lovely as Carmy’s plates—The Bear loses its way.
