wow ok, time for a little explaining on my part methinks
i headcanon firey with low empathy: before this point, he legitimately never considered leafy’s pov and how she felt about this. it just never occurred to him to think about it.
leafy realizes not quite exactly that he has low empathy but that he (unintentionally) hasn’t thought about her feelings (where you can see her demeanor shift in tone (i hope)) and thus tries (successfully!) to get him to imagine himself in her shoes. he has to pause and think through the rest of the conversation because it is genuinely a struggle for him
if i wrote bad or ooc or whatever feel free to throw rocks and various rotten vegetables at me ok byeeeeee
