The final doodle for this week is the Teen Titans villain Cheshire. When I was first starting out buying comic books, I leaned more toward DC Comics over Marvel. Hey there... Thank you so much :) He is taking on a life of his own... Yes of course! I have loads…I always start a drawing with my old Derwent graphics 2H which is really smooth and subtle from so much shading. (I've literally been using it for years) Derwent graphics pencils are pretty affordable.

I mainly use the Staedtler mars technico leadholder Clutch Pencil 2mm, they are brilliant, and you can get the leads anywhere. I use a range from 2h to 2B. I also have a set of the traditional Staedtler mars lumograph pencils.

Staedtler also do a really good lead only one called allXwrite…I have two of those.

One of my favourite pencils for the end of an artwork when the darker tones are applied is a Tombow Mono 6B, really soft but very creamy black. Tombow are a great brand. (they also do a great slimline eraser tool for picking out details like hair)

Expensive but very good are the Palomino blackwing pencils…I have three of them, but as a whole they are a bit expensive for me.

You can get low graphite staedtler ones, which are very ‘black’, they are called Mars lumograph ‘black’.

General pencils are a great brand, and do good charcoal pencils, their 6B one is so creamy and very black. I have to order them online as they are a US company.

Also I use wet and dry to sharpen my pencils as well…it gets a nice sharp edge. Hope that's OK? Have a lovely weekend xx

リードホルダー

文字を書くという文化的な行為から遠ざかって久しいですが、以前は一番苦手であったボールペン、太字のボールペンが今しっくりきています。

ボールペンに限らず太目の筆記具を好むのは圧が強いと言う事なんでしょうね。

こちら太目の芯を挿しこんで使うリードホルダー、1885年 アメリカ EAGLE PENCIL のお品。

鉛筆ほどの太さで木軸、シャープペンの様にお尻をノックして芯を出します。

優しい書き心地です。

Ha ha..thank you :) It is just lots of practice, and learning from other artists. I recommend regularly drawing in a sketchbook, as your skills can get ‘rusty’, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes… as art is in itself, just a series of mistakes that are tweaked and amended to eventually make a final artwork.

Yes, I mainly use the Staedtler mars technico leadholder pencil, I have 3 of them. You then just buy the replacement leads; so I have one that holds 2H leads, one for HB, and one for 2B. I guess I like them because there is no need to use pencil sharpeners, and they are pretty easy to keep sharp. (I use wet and dry paper). The leads are affordable too.  I must add, you can get a special ‘sharpener’ for the leadholder pencils, but I find it fiddly to use, which is why I use the wet n dry.

 I use quite a few different brands though, as it’s good to mix it up. Favourite brands: Tombow, General Pencils & Derwent – Derwent probably the most accessible.  Staedtler are very good quality, yet affordable. Tombow are lovely pencils, especially the 6B…nice dark black. General Pencils do some gorgeous charcoal pencils, that are the best I’ve used.

It’s great you love the nuthatch – they are beautiful birds! That original artwork is now sold, but I will try and look to see if I took any pictures of it closeup!
