My piece for the @akeshuakeauzine!

The Danganronpa V3 AU that's been silently brewing in my head for a long while already. A bit of info on the AU (and Akiren's design) under the cut.

Spoilers for NDRV3!

Akiren is the Ultimate Leader who is trying his best to unite the group together, while Akechi poses as the Ultimate Detective but gets quickly revealed as the Ultimate Assassin.

The storyline starts with Kasumi as the main character, so the first trial ends with her execution and the subsequent shift to Sumire as the main character. Akiren quickly befriends her and most of the cast in general, running himself ragged with trying to provide support and stop others from making fatal mistakes. Fails, obviously.

Akechi is cordial at first, but during the first trial turns out to be much more ruthless than he appeared. After being exposed for lying about his talent he drops most of his pretending and keeps to himself, pushing away Akiren and Sumire's attempts at trying to understand him. He is quick to realise the killing game they're trapped in is a TV show, but due to his lack of trust in anyone he follows the same path as Ouma in the original game. He becomes antagonistic and arranges a murder to try and crush the killing game later.

Akechi and Akiren's story ends the same way Ouma and Momota's does in Chapter 5: with them unexpectedly uniting in secret to defy the Game, Akechi sacrificing himself to keep Akiren alive, and Akiren pretending to be him during the trial, but refusing to let his friends die at the very end, dying himself instead.

And they wake up because it was a Virtual Reality. Bc I'm too soft-hearted. I can't deal with it. Sorry <3

But it's also important to the backstory on how Akechi joined the show: Akechi was a new TV idol under Shido's company, completely manufactured to eventually promote Danganronpa by joining a new season. He agrees on condition that he will play the role of the mastermind, so that he could retain his original memories and use it to expose and ruin the series and the entire studio with it. Shido agrees, but when the time comes Akechi's memories get wiped and he finds himself as just one of the many participants. The real mastermind is Mishima. Bc I think it's very amusing and ironic, and he fits the role of a fanboy perfectly. + Whatever is going on between Mishima and Akechi in this AU bc of that is hilarious to me.

shuake week 2024 day 1: roleswap AU

they call blackmask ren ‘hat guy’ because it’s his most distinguishing feature (nah bc it’s goofy just like scaramouche)

i have thought A LOT about this au, including their personas

blackmask (hat guy) joker has odin (loki’s counterpart), and prince joker has arsène (i changed the design a little though)

i was considering a red outfit for (prince) joker, but went with blue so it could be more refreshing! and also because he is reflecting goro (and to a degree naoto)

red is passionate, bold, and angry (righteously angry). blue is calm, collected, intelligent.

akechi’s colour feels blue, he wears a blue vest on his casual outfit, his blackmask outfit is blue and black, and robin hood has blue in his design. in the 3rd semester his true self is calmer and much more reserved. true he does kind of go chaotic in the metaverse but he’s blue.

BUT his prince outfit is red and white, like a reflection of joker’s but white instead of black. akechi sees rebellion as passionately wanting to uphold justice. he wants to reflect the passion in joker’s red

maybe detective prince akechi wants to come across as more passionate (about justice) than he might seem or feel. and maybe detective prince amamiya wants to seem calmer and more intelligent than he might seem or feel.

Only, that last part had gone a little differently. Somehow, some way, Joker had been dragged insensate into that room and then walked right out again—or at least that's how Amamiya remembers it. And then nothing after that.

“It's fuzzy,” he'd admitted softly. “They drugged me.”

Yes, Akechi had known about that. He'd known about the Thieves’ little plan, too, but he keeps that fact to himself.

If Amamiya is uncomfortable about losing a month to these apparently superhumanly strong drugs, he doesn't volunteer the fact. And Akechi doesn't volunteer any facts, either. So they move on.

Amamiya says, “I trust you to see the truth. I trust you to act in your self-interest. Good enough for me. At least right now.”

Akechi doesn't have a response to that.

“I’d hoped you'd come find me, too,” says Amamiya.

Perhaps he would have. It's only that in Akechi's version of events, there's nothing fuzzy at all about pulling the trigger and watching Amamiya's brains drip down the back wall.

imagine this if joker wasn't a member of the phantom thieves. a mildly popular celebrity shows up in your coffee shop and just begins talking about how much he wants a rival and he's so lonely and he really loves this coffee and also his dad fucking sucks.

Shuake roleswap soulmates AU (that I may or may not do something with) where they can only summon their soulmate's Persona until they've actually met.

So, it's actually closer to a roleswap accomplice route, because Akira - with Loki - pushes himself into Shido's circle because of all these thoughts and feelings he knows are from someone else, who he's never met but can feel in his soul (literally) that doing this is important. He can't back down.

Akechi, who's encouraged by Arséne to be better, reminded that someone out there would burn the world for him, becomes the kind of person who'd become the hero he dreamed about being for his mother.

Akira sees Akechi fighting in Madarame's palace and feels Arséne in the distance, feels Loki straining to reach Akechi.

They don't swap back over - Akechi hears about the "Black Mask" and isn't sure how to feel, having become accustomed to Arséne and the person he's become. Having a sense of who your soulmate is, is one thing. Coming to the realisation that they've committed real crimes (that you yourself might have done in their place) for you, is another entirely.

Robin Hood, who'd been with Akira and had been a reassurance that Akira's soulmate was worth doing all of this for, is the one who goes back to Akechi's heart. Not so much a reminder that his soulmate isn't a fully bad person if Robin could be in his soul as well as Akechi's, but a proof that Akechi himself wouldn't have just been a bad guy if things had been "normal."

This leaves Akira with just Loki, but by this point they're getting to know each other, Akira seeing what Arséne is like, making a point of not being too antagonistic with the Thieves, so that by the time November comes around sure he may not feel safe enough to be honest but he's on far better terms with them all.

The Thieves figure out that Akira is the Black Mask. Akechi figures out that Akira is is soulmate (and that in another world, it would have been him). The Thieves are conflicted, and Akira and Akechi start to flirt more than ever while not feeling sure if making it a real thing would be safe, or even a good idea.

Except then Akira actually does help Akechi out in the interrogation room, and then when they meet on Shido's ship later, it's by the entrance... and that's when the others get to see them swap over.

Akechi, the leader of the Phantom Thieves, gets Loki and the infamous black mask, while Akira, the one who they've been so scared of, takes "Akechi's" Arséne and white opera mask.

Saiki K Week Day 1: Swap AU

I've seen the popular Saiki-Teruhashi swap AU but I've never seen anyone swap all the characters for this AU.

Basically, all of the female characters switch places with a male character.

Teruhashi and Saiki swap powers.

Chiyo and Kaidou swap places as chuunibyous.

Mera becomes the Nendo of the group.

Aiura takes Toritsuka's place as Teruhashi's apprentice.

Hii is the moral support of the friend group in place of Hairo.

Makino somehow became a gang leader like Kuboyasu.

Sketches of all my redone designs for my Phantom Thieves from my AU, Icarus! Lots of info down below on the cut, so if you want to know more about the details and inspiration, feel free to keep reading!

This includes Akechi’s design for his Princely/Robin Hood attire, BEFORE his Icarus attire you might have seen from my other posts! Check out the Icarus AU tag for more info! Icarus has a main focus on Akechi and his relationship to the thieves, but the AU is actually an entire rewrite with new designs, 3rd semester and epilogue/strikers/tactica stories, hence Zenkichi and Sophia’s inclusion.

I decided to include more motifs towards their persona’s and general vibes; and also just my own personal touches haha.

AKIRA - Not much has changed, I really like his design overall. I raised his boots to be like Arsene’s and changed his neck area.

MORGANA - I hate the OG pill shaped head, his new design is based heavily on the shape of Palico’s from Monster Hunter. Added a little more nod to Zorro/His persona motifs and also just made him cuter! Little hamburger headed cat.

RYUJI - I made him a little bulkier and gave some more weight to his outfit overall. I gave him heavier boots and a slightly buffer build to relate back more to his sporty style.

ANN - honestly was never too big on her latex outfit, I wanted to call back to a personal favorite female lead; Christine Daae, and used one of the versions of her Don Juan costume as inspiration. I remember seeing Phantom live and in many stage versions of her character, the Don Juan scene was a pure moment of female control, and she was truly working the Phantom and controlling every movement on the stage. Her presence is commanding, and I thought it was a very fitting tribute to Ann’s character as feminine strength. (I’m absolutely not referring to the movie iteration of Daae btw.)

YUSUKE - I referred to some historical art and legend of Goemon to add more elements of design to his outfit. When I color them, I want to add some really strong pops of color to his clothing to really drive the aesthetics and artistry home.

MAKOTO - Another totally redid outfit, I opted to give her a design which relates back to Popess Joan, and also Anat. I gave her a clawed hand on her right side and an uncovered hand on her left as both a nod to Anat’s hand raised in iconography of her from art history, but also to show the duality of Anat’s title as both a goddess of war, and of love. It also relates to the mythology of Joan and her nature as both a leader and a martyr. I changed her mask to a Venetian Commedia mask as well.

FUTABA - ok. I’ll be honest. I never liked her skin-tight outfit, it just doesn’t match her personality at all. Also, the high tech Egyptian feel never really sold me. I totally understand the tomb thing, but I truthfully think a dungeon/palace which was more like… tech/nerd themed would have been much more “futaba” the inspiration for this new outfit relates back to her persona, the Necromomicon, as well as her nerdy personality, and her affiliation as Alibaba (Ali Baba.) I wanted to go more lovecraftian, long sleeves and patterning designed to look more like lovecraftian tendrils, and big baggy pants and her classic shoes to match. The patterning on her undershirt will resemble a rib cage, both as a reference to her deathly “tomb” iconography, but also to Lovecraftian and Necronomicon lore. I think she matches the description of a nerdy, techie DND dungeon master more than the initial outfit, so that’s the route I took personally.

HARU - relating back to some fashions from 17th c France, where Milady’s story (the three musketeers) takes place, I kept her design relatively similar. I just gave her a little more iconography relating to the three musketeers and that general timeframe.

AKECHI - in his pre-Icarus outfit, I’ve given him a princely sort of outfit befitting of his two faced nature, and edited it to relate to Robin Hood a little more. I tried to keep it sleek and just generally very concealing and layered.

SUMIRE - i gave her some iconography relating back to one of her personas, who is an inference to Freya. I also included some more nods to classic Cinderella, with fantasy gown elements. Overall, relatively similar.

ZENKICHI - again, relatively similar, I really like his outfit. I just opened up the face some to show more personality and spiced up the outfit generally to keep it matching. honestly, les mis/Valjean was a hard one, but I also think his character could be heavily related back to Edmond Dante (Monte Cristo.) so I gave some nods to that as well.

SOPHIA - I turned her into a FINGIE!!!! I made her whole dress as a nod to her persona/to pandora’s tiles around her/the pillars. I wanted to make her small and almost unnatural since she’s an AI, and I thought having a little guy on the team would add some more variation.

I'm listening to the Alice by heart soundtrack and I just want to comment on how fucking SHUAKE coded every song in this is. ESPECIALLY as a NG+ au. So here's my reasoning on every song.

West Of Words- this entire song reminds me of the popular HC that akechi would also remember the past playthroughs, and holy shit. So many of the lyrics match this. "There's a world we knew as we, before before, a story entered, a tiny key we turned, West of words" feels so accurate to it, but like the whole SONG is them. All of the different people of wonderland being the different palace leaders (specifically "there's a gold and silver song in the afternoon" being madarame) but I just. Yes. And Alfred being sick is so akechi and Akira both knowing what akechi has to do for the story to go correctly. UGHH.

Down The Hole- this one is a little harder to connect, but hear me out. Going "down the hole" is clearly Momentos, given they are going down, and it's a tunnel, and yada yada. But this song being the joy akechi and joker get from being in Momentos again and being able to fight there again? Then in their outfits just smiling together and dashing through Momentos, and it's only then, and they are "down the hole, and really on a roll"? YESS. And the other phantom thieves are so confused bc like this place is scary... And why tf do these two ppl already know it... Also ryuji saying "shoulda brought the cat" to Mona would be REALLY FUNNY. And "what happens if I can't get out of wonderland"? That's so marukis palace coded.

Still- akechi just wants to get through what's going to happen, because what else can they do? But Akira is just so... Happy to see him again, he kinda can't think about anything else for a bit. This song just being Akira trying to get akechi to slow down and appreciate what they have... UGHHHH. GOOODDDD. And the entire thing about not having enough time? And akechi's fate? And THATS why akechi is rushing?? UGHHHHH. And "walk with me still, linger on with me still." Akira saying this to akechi? And the bit following it where he's trying to reason with Akira that people already know who they are? AARRGGHHH.

Chillin' The Regrets- I'm imagining this song to be akechi getting back to his mercenary job, knowing he has to, and initially he's against it, but fuck, he forgot just how nice it felt to kill these jackasses, whether it's by shido's command or not. The entire song is him fighting between Robin Hood and Loki (his sense of self-improvement and his sense of desire). And the whole "just as sweet as rain"? To everyone else, this song is about the status affects. But Akira and akechi know what's happening in akechi's mind, whether he like it or not. GODDD.

The Key Is- the entire song being Akira talking to the phantom thieves (and indirectly to akechi who he secretly has on call during the meetings he cannot attend) and him being like "I WILL save you all, however long it takes, I won't let you suffer." Also "let them play their ghostly fraud, wound us in the name of God, to see us to dream within you" is 100% Akira hinting towards yaldaboath to akechi, but as just a general statement to everyone else. GOODDD THIS MUSICAL IS SO THEM.

Those Long Eyes- this song being someone like Kawasaki or sojiro (someone parental) talking to Akira when Akira is like "I feel like I'm losing this... Person I like." And the song is their response, but it's in like a flashback format that cuts back to akechi and Akira dancing together at jazz jinn while the parental person watches them from a booth and spying on them IK ITS A REACH BUT I LOVE AUS OKAY

Manage Your Flamingo- okay this one was hard to figure out ngl, but I'm going off of the line "why don't they ask why?" For most of it, but I'm imagining this is them at the bottom of Momentos, when they see the holy grail and listening to people praise it, or the same but with the phantom thieves wondering why the cognitions don't question the rulers of the palaces. And if this is in shido's palace then it's shido's cognition of akechi doing the "will God save, the queen?"

Sick To Death Of Aliceness- I imagine they encounter a part of a side palace where each thief experiences their innermost deepest fear. The one we see is Akira's, and it's all of the thieves 'realizing' that their leader is selfish, and at the head of it all (the hatter) is akechi. The "I'm sick to death" that Alfred screams at Alice at the end is 100% this fake akechi trying to prod at Akira's fear of losing akechi.

Brillig Braellig- Akira talking to shadow shido during that one part of his battle where it's just the two of them, and the backround singers are the people on the throne shido sits on, except now theyre separate and in the backround. End of note. But fr, this song being shadow!shido telling Akira how he planned on letting akechi essentially "sign up to die"? And the line "spine up you icky sickies, line up to die" is the crowd of people knowing what's going to happen to akechi, and Akira fighting all of them while fighting shido as well? MMMMM YESSS.

Some Things Fall Away.- Morgana, just now realizing just how much Akira truly cared for akechi post-shidos palace, trying to comfort him about the fact that akechi was going to die anyhow. Also the line "shadows pause at the window, meet their gaze- their grief is yours." Being Morgana knowing that Akira is overly sympathetic, and just... UGHTFJFJR. KILL MEEE. And on the "someone strays from the window on their way, their grief is yours." At the end it's Akira sitting with his legs crossed, a shadow sitting exactly the same, and on "the grief is yours" it flickers to akechi sitting across from him, in his casual outfit with that slutty sweater vest? YESS. GAWDDDDD.

Your Shell Of Grief- just from the name alone, I want you to guess what I'm gonna say. NOPE, it's not Akira grieving akechi, now it's the OPPOSITE! This happens post interrogation room, right after his meeting with shido. He goes into Momentos, and one of the shadows try to reason with him, and for the first time ever, he freezes. More shadows join in, and they are feeding off of his apathy. I imagine they put a status ailment on him (the one where I makes you sad I forgot what it's called). The entire thing is him essentially letting himself grief for once, before rememebering that the shadows want him to grieve forever, and he pushes against them (off screen though). And at some of the turtles parts it shows how akechi views the phantom thieves way of going about grief

Another Room In Your Head- omg, this is the one that made me start all of this. This feels VERY marukis palace coded, when Akira pulls akechi to the side when he somehow notices akechi's been even more quiet than usual, and akechi has a soft moment where he wonders what Akira did, and what he will do, after losing akechi. And it's them knowing they will have to go through all of this again, and they will grieve every time, because that time might be the one where it actually sticks around. This also gives me a reason to imagine them gently cupping eachothers cheeks and crying, before ryuji walks in and is like. "🧍‍♂️."

Isn't It A Trial?- imagine for a moment; what if the shadows don't forget what happened in the last playthrough? What if they remember? Now hear me out- this song, but it's shadow akechi talking to Akira about the actual akechi, and essentially calling akechi immature and a bad person, and that he isn't ready to face his actions as a mercenary now that he's an adult, and omg. Uhhrhrhfhfhf. I'll be so fr, this one was a little harder to assign.

Do You Think We think You're Alice?- Akira having to face kamoshida palace again, but somehow the shadows can smell the confidence coming off of joker, and they realize that- given if they still remember everything- this is the joker they remember killing them, and think they need to knock him down a few legs during the final fight. Again, a harder one to connect.

I've Shrunk Enough- if akechi came back during another NG+ at kamoshidas palace, and he's helping the thieves against the big boss, and it's just akechi being like "c'mon you nerds, you know you can do better, so do better." And essentially just hyping them up.

Afternoon- akira and akechi reflecting on how they feel about the thieves and... And eachother. At "like a sister," it shows sumire and futaba (the younger siblings) and at the "like a brother" it shows Akira and Kasumi (with her face blocked by a book on gymnastics). And the song is just them reminiscing, and akechi realizing that he maybe kind of cares for the thieves. Just a smidge.

Winter Blooms- the start of another NG+, but Akira knows that he will be okay, no matter if this is the last loop or not. "Nothing comes or goes without a shadow" and it's him thinking on everyone and their personas. "Let the sorrow go, it's half the battle" it shows all of the thieves bonding at Leblanc with whoever they are grievings ghost standing behind them as if they aren't invisible. "Down the hole you go to where you are" is Akira acknowledging Momentos in his every day, just holding a to-go coffee, and breathing in the spring air.

I hope this convinces you to listen to Alice by heart because when I tell you this musical is LIFE CHANGING. and it's so shuake coded. Please for the love of God someone listen to Alice by heart while trying to connect it to persona 5 and tell me what you come up with PLEASEWKWKEJDJ I NEED MORE PPL TO BE AUTISTIC OVER ABH × P5

I HAVE 2 OUTFIT IDEAS 4 HIFUMI & SHIHO (MINUS MASKS) & 1 mask idea for yuuki but idk what else. i was thinking for the leaders it would def be chaotic but goro has most metaverse experience so hes the leader. ken kinda acts like mona in giving useful tips abt personas etc and hifumi takes on the role of makoto where she gives out different strategies (her, ken, & goro debate over these tips & strategies but usually end up doing them anyway). I have an urge to show u these outfits omg. i can ramble abt these outfits & their personas for forever .. i chose jormungandr for yuuki, skadi for shiho hela for hifumi, and persephone for eiko. ik its not very in the literacy scene for them to all have deities as personas but... goro breaks it with loki anyway, so ..

explainations:: hela & jormungandr are 2/6 of loki's kids in norse mythology, aiding him in the ragnarok/end of the world, and hela is sentenced down to the underworld to be the goddess of that realm since she was born half alive half dead, and she's sentenced to it by odin (basically. kinda the zeus of norse mythology, like the "king" of all of them) because she's the daughter of loki & all this other stuff .. chose her for hifumi because hifumi's mom basically forces her to be a shoji star after hifumi's dad and yeah. jormungandr i chose because hes kinda just a sleepy little guy: in norse mythology he's known as "the World Serpent" and he wraps around the entire ocean with his tail in his mouth kind of in a constant sleep until the ragnarok (all of loki's kids --aside from 2, one being dead & the other being a gift to odin-- including loki himself, are kinda trapped somewhere before the ragnarok happens) and he's not talked about a lot but he aids in so much and he's important (like how yuuki is kind of ignored by the pts, the dialogue options being horrid, despite him aiding in them. also yuuki is the bm's navi in the au & he runs a "revenge site" like how Strega/takaya sakaki, jin shirato, & chidori yoshino do in p3-- strega also does death calling cards , mainly shown in the novels which is p cool.. first ppl to use mental shutdowns despite not beinf called that then either. i love strega sorry. they all agreed to it because shiho wanted to deal with more people like kamoshida, goro wanted to deal with more people like shido, hifumi wanted to deal w more people like her mom, etc).. i chose persephone for eiko because in greek mythology, persephone is (most commonly accepted form of the myth) kidnapped by hades and forced into marriage with him by eating a pomegranate out of the underworld .. point blank, persephone reminds me of eiko being trapped and persephone's shown to overcome it , ( honestly eventually making the underworld & hades her Bitch. she kills the goddess/nymph of mints and creates the mint plant because she got too handsy with hades).. also hifumi and eiko are a little gay for eachother so why not have their personas be, too? anyway. SHIHO!! i chose skadi for her because skadi , in norse mythology , is both jotunn (giant) and a god like how loki is, but she's an accepted form of it because she was given over to the gods as a peace treaty, and thats pretty important to norse mythology i'd say (like how rooftop scene is important to kamoshida arc), and skadi claws up the aesir (council of gods) thru both her marriage (ann? ann. hehe.) and her own sheer will (shiho's recovery and goro's ..... questionable aid.) and skadi just fits. the goddess of mountains and winter? sign me the FUCK UP.

WIP: list of P5 AUs

Crown the Pawn: Your ol classic Roleswap Shuake AU but Akechi remembers. goro has to use loki via bluetooth on joker to trigger call of chaos, make him go pyschotic so it maybe unlocks his memory back so they can do shit right. joker isnt very happy with the role he has to play.

Heart of Depth / The Mightiest of Seas (Pirates AU): Ren was a captain at some point and Goro was a pawn for shidos fleet. (its complicated)

Superconduct (Pacific RIM AU): Ren an ex-pilot works on makeshifts jeagers with futaba. Akechi practices solo piloting patrolling and ravaging illegal and unregistered units made outside the corps in the outer suburban areas. The smugglers call him the Black Mask.Akechi finds them scavanging metal components in a discarded unregistered Jaeger(Arsene) in the outer urban areas and he tears Arsene apart. Ren was a perfect Pilot, the best scores, but after something. he starts failing every test. Upon his brief imprisonment and his return his compatibility tests keep failing, he leaves one of the PTs on a comma

Noragami AU: Lowly God Akira, Akechi is Shidos Shinki. working with Nao

Hunger Games AU: pawn of the revolution joker. games victor goro works both as celebrity and agent for in the games. after winning Joker realizes he is being used by the revolution so he makes his own group to cause mayhem, and Goro double crosses everyone

Arcana Shuffle AU: NG+ only adults remember, joker isnt fated anymore but like remants of weird power and fate clung to him so instead of waking arsene he wakes the fucking reaper, goro's mother is alive, he has a real life and friends and so makoto is the trickster and haru is the other side of the coin. akechis role here starts when jokers unstable state threatens to break the timeline preventing the main events from happening. Goro awakens Robin and arsene.

HermitFaith AU: NG+ where Akechi and Ren remember, but they awaken memories as soon as the game starts, in the arcana swapped roles of Hermit for Akechi and Faith for Ren. They have to navigate the timeline supervising for the main events to ocur and reach the end of the timeline. Goro has a Palace that happens to look like the Engine room, lol

The Forge (Fantasy AU): Altoi crown prophecy, the cursed throne prince akechi decides he wont be doing and fated prophecy prince duty so he becomes a mage in the Norden lands. Joker is a blacksmith apprentice who is actually a pretty good mage himself, hes from Yongen the Fortress, mining town that legally belongs to Altair. Shido is waging war refusing to doom the kingdom because akechi doesnt want to die for the prophecy lol.(im using an old worldbuilding i really love but i never actually put to action). joker is some sort of ex mage from the velvet ring but his soul-bond died and to everyone in the ring you are supposed to have died with your soul-bond. so he isnt well seen in the Velvet Ring anymore. Lavenza Adopts him as blacksmith for custom catalysts. but like mages are pretencious , and full of shit and joker dislikes them
