Childhood in the Viking Age
Childhood in the Viking Age (c. 750-1100) was largely undocumented as historical records primarily focus on adults, particularly men. Likewise, little is known about children's presence in the afterlife, as no runestones were raised in their memory. While a few objects interpreted as toys have been discovered, evidence of how children spent their time or what they did for amusement is scarce.

Children's Place in Society
In Old Norse society, the naming of the child represented integration into the community. The Norwegian Frostathing Law emphasised that every child must have a father. This notion extended to the naming and acceptance of the child. After birth, the baby was brought to the father, and the naming ritual was an important event, often involving the sprinkling of water, a practice tied to royal customs and likely pre-dating Christianity. If a father did not accept the child, it was considered "un-carried", a status with serious legal consequences. Children of unmarried women faced additional challenges, with the mother required to journey to the father to have the child accepted. The law also imposed responsibility on the father or his relatives to care for the child until age 16. However, only the first two illegitimate children of a man were to be supported by his relatives to avoid exploitation of the system. Thus, during the pagan period at least, a man's economic responsibility and the issue of identifying the father were paramount.
Child exposure was an accepted practice in the pagan world. Ari Thorgilsson's sober description of the voluntary acceptance of Christianity in Iceland in the year 1000 states that it became established by law that everybody should be Christian and undergo baptism, but concerning child exposure and the eating of horse meat, the old law should remain valid. By the time the Grey Goose Laws (Grágás) were written, likely in the 12th century, the practice would have been abolished, including for children with deformities.
In Norway, King Olaf's Christian Law, formulated in the early 11th century, also included legislation that sought to end pagan practices such as infanticide. However, the law was not universally applied, as some versions of the law had exceptions. The Gulathing Law, which incorporates parts of Olaf's Christian Law, gave some leeway regarding deformed infants. It explicitly allowed for the exposure of children born with serious physical deformities, such as reversed facial features or misplaced limbs (termed situs retroversus). The law specified that such children should be brought to a church, converted from paganism, and left to die. This does not mean, however, that exposure was widely practiced.
Archaeological findings also suggest that children were sometimes sacrificed in pre-Christian Norse rituals. Excavations at Trelleborg uncovered sacrificial wells containing the remains of children, placed alongside animal bones and ritual objects. These sacrifices were likely meant to appease the gods and ensure prosperity. Other sites, such as Lake Tissø, have also yielded remains of children found in ritual contexts, supporting the notion that sacrificial practices were part of at least some Norse religious traditions. Children's graves from the Viking Age often contain small bronze rattles, bells, and occasionally jewellery. However, the number of identifiable child graves is surprisingly low, leading scholars to speculate that children may have been buried separately or in ways that are less detectable today, or because of infanticide.

Zap Energy says that they’ve solved Z-pinch by “shear stabilization”, where they have different sections of the plasma moving at different velocities (faster outside, slower inside). Doesn’t shear like that cause instability, not suppress it? Or are plasmas not subject to that law of fluid dynamics
You’re thinking of instabilities in flowing plasma like it’s turbulence in flowing fluid. This is partially correct, but like... okay. So, the field of physics that governs the movement of plasma is called magnetohydrodynamics, where you introduce Maxwell’s equations into Navier-Stokes. It is horrible. I am but a humble mechanical engineer, and I leave the physics to physicists.
The physicists tell me that Zap Energy's science is solid.
Bit of context: Zap Energy is taking an old fusion energy concept from the 1950's called a Z-pinch, and revamping it with modern plasma physics.
A Z-pinch works on the principle that passing an electric current through a conductor generates a magnetic field, which in turn crushes (or "pinches") the conductor. The first observations of the pinch effect were in hollow metal tubes that were used as lightning rods, like this one from a factory in 1905:

Image by Brian James, CC BY-SA 3.0, Wikimedia Commons
Plasma is electrically conductive, and is subject to the same compressive pinch effect as metal. Lightning itself is a plasma pinch, actually.
When you pinch a plasma, it heats up. The fast-moving, charged plasma particles repel each other and push back against the magnetic field until the system reaches equilibrium. The stronger the plasma current, the harder the pinch, the more pressure, and the more heat. With sufficient plasma current and the right hydrogen isotopes, you can create a pinch strong enough to induce nuclear fusion.
The pinch effect was first utilized by a class of fusion machines called Z-pinches in the early 1950's. However, those Z-pinches were extremely unstable. The most common analogy is that compressing plasma with a Z-pinch is like trying to squeeze jello with rubber bands.

UK Atomic Energy Authority, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons
Both linear and toroidal Z-pinches have been built. The toroidal Z-pinch above shows some of the characteristic kink instabilities of a pinched plasma – it goes all squiggly. Researchers started adding external magnets to Z-pinches to help reduce instabilities (which eventually led to the development of the tokamak), but could never get a truly stable plasma. Z-pinch fusion research was largely abandoned in favor of the tokamak and stellarator.
However, the external magnets of a tokamak or stellarator are massive, complex, and use incredible amounts of power. The University of Washington and Zap Energy went back to the old concept of a magnet-less linear Z-pinch, but with a more modern understanding of plasma physics. They discovered that by using a flowing plasma rather than a stationary one, with a faster flow rate on the outer layers (a "sheared-flow" Z-pinch), they were able to achieve great stability with no magnets.

Credit: Zap Energy
Rather than filling a chamber with stationary hydrogen and then pinching it, they blow a "smoke ring" of plasma around a cylinder into their chamber. An electrode at the tip of the cylinder then fires a pulse into the plasma, which creates a pinch with a complex velocity profile.
Credit: Zap Energy
Zap Energy’s physics basis is good. They’ve pretty convincingly demonstrated that sheared-flow does indeed stabilize a pinched plasma, and if they can pull off magnetic confinement fusion with no magnets, it will be massively cheaper than any other method. The uncertainty that Zap is facing comes from mechanical considerations (in particular, electrode erosion is a tricky problem to solve), and the relatively thin margins for efficiency that are inherent to any pulsed fusion technique.

i'm seeing a lot of inaccurate posts about what you can and cannot do now that steamboat willie is in public domain, from people who don't understand what copyrights and trademarks actually permit
fortunately, the Duke University School of Law (specifically, their Center for the Study of the Public Domain) has put together a guide on exactly what you can and cannot do with mickey mouse as of 2024:
tl;dr, here's a handy diagram:

CDK: The Bullpen
Published: 9-14-2024 | Updated: N/A SUMMARY Use the Cubic Dynamics Kitbash (Simmons, 2023-2024) collection to set up corporate, exposition, and office environments. Envisioned as an add-on to the Cubic Dynamics set (EA/Maxis, archived at GOS), it features minimalist and retro-futuristic objects. Find more CC on this site under the #co2cdkseries tag. Read the Backstory and ‘Dev Notes’ HERE. The BULLPEN set is designed to help you create cubicles and co-working spaces for your interns. This is where the indispensable grunt work gets done – where all new and entry-level employees earn their stripes.
DETAILS All EPs/SPs. §See Catalog for Pricing | See Buy/Build Mode You need the Company Expo (Mesh Pack) set (Simmons, 2024) for TXTRs to show properly in game. ALL files with “MESH” in their name are REQUIRED. Several objects in this series are oversized/offset. You may need to shift an objects upwards once to level it, and you may need “move objects” and “grid on/off” cheats to place them to your liking. When placing partitions/floating shelves and tables/desks/counters on the same tile, place the partition/shelves first. I recommend using this set with Object Freedom 1.02 (Fway, 2023), which includes Numenor’s fix for OFB shelves (2006), for easier use overall. Mod folder's cooked still, sharing photos of my sims from my gallery.
Not my preferred method, but I'm dying to share them! So anyways here's a mega photo dump.
Cade E Cherrypop! (Normal/Ruined)
My love for sentient entertainment animatronics is one that will forever remain unshaken. Cade E Cherrypop is the sentient android mascot of Cade E Arcade! (Thx to the new chibi preset by @sdmsims, another little mascot will be along shortly as a friend)
After society collapses due to a zombie-apocalypse-plus, the arcade falls into ruin, and Cade E eventually reawakens in the ruins in her second withered form, sun-bleached, dirty and damaged.
Xelleen Wisher
Xelleen Wisher's a gaming streamer in this world's analog to Twitch! Despite his anxiety disorder, he does his best to put up an optimistic and energetic persona for his audience. He really loves cute things, especially cats and small collectibles! He's also very, very good at videogames, dabbling in speed runs and challenge runs.
Xelleen was created by me as a very positive character. He combines physical traits that are painted as a stereotypical "neckbeard" image (acne, overweightness) with features of the "gamergirl" aesthetic (cute clothes, makeup, lots of pink.) He stands as his own person, defined by neither stereotype.
The bottom/last pic of the three shows his face without his makeup on!!
Steelie Buzzkill
(Wouldn't Be Possible Without @sdmsims's Anime Mod!!!)
Ordered as an Incarnate (an Incarnate is a special type of android commissioned to be a real-word version of a fictional character) of somebody's OC, Steelie's shipment was intercepted after the law recognizing android sentience was passed. His company dumped him and his peers on the side of the road near a rural town.
Since he was freed before artificial memories were programmed into him, he doesn't know what character he's intended to be, and he really doesn't WANT to know.
He works at IHopTopic, the compound store that exists because in this universe, IHop and Hot Topic had some sort of business deal from hell that led to a combined location.
(Between you and me, his design SOMEBODY's fannon ship child OC, but I won't say more than that, nor do the medias his parents are from exist irl.)
The rest will just be character images with short descriptions. I'll likely make individual posts later on going in more depth!!
Torren's a model! He models both clothes and makeup.
Torren's photographer, and general voice of reason. They're bascially buddies.
Aniyo loves hanging out in malls and drawing fanart for their favorite animes. Above all though, they love animals!! Their aspiration is to be a rescue caretaker for animals that need them.
A small trunked rodent I created called a 'rummager.'
It's too bad I'm missing the cc for this one, because I'd love to show their whole design in CAS. I really like this one. They have a lot to do with a certain collapse plotline.
Owner of a tattoo shop. VERY supportive of their artists, and probably one of the best bosses ever.
Tattoo artist working for Crim.
Another one of Crim's hired tattoo artists!
Third tattoo artist out of four in Crim's tattoo shop. (The fourth one's too short to show in gallery, sorry.)
Runaway teen after something really bad happened at home. Navigating the post-collapse hellscape with her horse.
Apex Zombie who's territory spans an entire abandoned city. It's antenna syncs up to the abandoned traffic cams, giving it eyes all over the urban ruins. As a side effect, the old digital billboards flicker to life in monochromatic imagery when it approaches.
@ssspringroll because I definitely used some of your CC in this. Idr where, but I DEFINETELY did. Also, you're one of my favorite creators, thank you for existing <3

a rough timeline of the modern!morbell au
where they're in college and micah is also a youtuber who gets cancelled a lot, with a plot of being illegal lawyers. this is just a pre-tl to the actual college meeting, if that makes sense. might make other parts
Granddaddy Bell had connections to shady people with even shadier and illegal activities. He created Bell Inc., a law firm that would later grow into a powerhouse in its own right, as a cover up to do his shady business. He'd raise Daddy Bell to be his successor, and would instill his teachings into Jr., and pass down his years of crimes to his son. Later on, after his passing, Micah Bell Jr. would become the CEO of Bell Inc.
Around the time a then young Bell Jr. would take control of the firm, a few other firms popped up. In a similar fashion that Granddaddy Bell had taken, these firms would only open up to be a cover up for, again, shady business. Among these businesses would rise two household names: Van der Linde Ent. and O'Driscoll Corp. Both companies were once business partners, but after a case gone wrong, they ended up parting on bad terms, sparking a rivalry that would, behind doors, more often than not end in bloodshed.
A couple years down the line, Van der Linde founder and co-founder, Dutch Van der Linde and Hosea Matthews, would adopt a young boy by the name of Arthur Morgan, who would retain his last name. While Hosea clearly wanted to adopt a son for the sake of having a son, Dutch figured it'd be good for the business. He did, however, end up loving Arthur like a son. So much so that they ended up adopting another boy a couple years later, followed by their last child and only daughter; John Marston and Tilly Jackson, respectively. The age in which all three kids are adopted will be left up to interpretation, though it can be established that they were all above six years old.
During all of the Van der Linde-Matthews family growth, Micah Bell Jr. is raising his sons, Micah Bell III and Amos Bell, by himself, with the help of various nannies and maids, because, well, they come from old money. Surprisingly, despite his apparent darker and nihilistic views on life, Daddy Bell isn't a terrible father. Sure, he's strict and expects only the best from his sons, but which parent doesn't? No, Daddy Bell does try to be a good dad, and does try to raise his sons to be the best versions of themselves, and truly does love them.
Both set of parents, VDL-Matthews and Bell respectively, each try to instill similar teachings to their children. Both want their children to be lawyers so they can take over the firms, both want their children to know the way of crime and criminals, and both want their children to be the best versions of themselves.
It's around Micah Bell III's 14 years of being alive that does he begin to rebel. He becomes more argumentative and abrasive, he spends his allowance on the newest games and begins to skip classes to spend his time elsewhere. It's around this time that he uploads his first video, a ragebait of all topics, to YouTube, marking the beginning of a troll.
Timeskip to a couple years forward, Micah finds himself in college of all places. He has a decent following online, mostly of other people who either love him for his humor or hate him. He skips going to CC and jumps straight to university because, hello, he has the money, and though he doesn't want to be there at all, he studies pre-law, or something like that. Contrary to popular belief, he is rather intelligent, and having been raised by a lawyer of a father who read him law books to sleep, he has a good grasp on it.
A couple years later, Arthur Morgan enters the scene. Much like Micah, Arthur doesn't find his passion in law. But unlike Micah, Arthur's dads are understanding and support his aspiration to study art (or something similar.) Which is how Arthur finds himself at the same college as Micah, and how this AU came to be.

Hello! I wanted to ask what kind of sites do you work on in Germany and what are the conditions like when you excavate? Also are there some artefacts that are more common to find then others?
Hi @ioniccolumns, thanks for the question and sorry for the delay!
Again, Mod V supplying the first part of the answer, since Mod A is currently still huddled under 1000 blankets and drinking vast amounts of tea.
EDIT MANY WEEKS LATER: Double sorry for the double delay, Mod A answered his part, I wanted to edit some things in mine, and then Term Paper Hell happened. Ask me about medieval slate roofing if you want to hear the rant of a lifetime, I dare you.
The short answer to your questions: It depends. 😅
The long answer:
We have a vast richness of time periods in Germany, and pretty much the whole country is covered in archaeology one way or another. It is entirely possible to start a dig going through 1920s scrap metal hoards, dig your way through a high medieval road, an early medieval settlement, and a roman villa rustica and end up in a neolithic causewayed ditch enclosure. In general: If you are digging in a city you'll probably find a latrine and/or a graveyard. You will find medieval ceramics and some kind of crop marks on many many fields. If you are within the bounds of the Roman empire you will most likely find Roman stuff, be that architecture or something else.
As to the conditions: How do you mean? Working conditions? (Imagine your average construction site, only with vastly more nerds.) Preservation conditions? (It varies greatly, we have everything from peat bogs to gravel plains to brown earth, it really depends on where you're digging. Though I WILL mention the Rhenish mining area for its particularly spectacular wood preservation. We literally got paleolithic hunting spears in pretty much working condition out of there.) Soil conditions? (It varies greatly, have a look at the Bodenatlas Deutschland if this particularly interests you!)
And artefacts - again, it depends xD. Though, most medieval digs will turn up incredible amounts of ceramics (my beloved), and it would be terrible of me not to show you our prime example of a find, especially if you're digging in prehistoric time periods: The Glorious Post Hole.

ETA: Mod A (that's me) Has Risen From The Dreadful Pits Of Illness!
In addition to So Many Time Periods in regards to sites, I feel I should mention that most excavations in Germany are so-called Verursachergrabungen (lit. person responsible [pays] excavations) meaning that whoever dug up the monument needs to pay for its excavation. Specific laws surrounding this differ by state, but usually the state office for heritage management will get involved. As V has mentioned, we also have a decent amount of rescue excavations, mainly associated with open-pit mining for gravel and coal, and numerous excavations of scientific interest - the big ones are usually focused on the formerly Roman parts of Germany.
The most common artefact is definitely pottery, followed by flint flakes and stone tools of all kinds. There is one find category that didn't get much attention for decades that actually should be really common though: burnt loam, also known as Hüttenlehm (lit. hut loam). This category covers daub, plaster and mud bricks, but for a long time only painted plaster was recognised because the others look too similar to normal soil - especially when wet. Only the impressions left by the wattle and the temper used to bind the clay of the mud bricks will give them away and all too often those are missed in non-university excavations.
Which brings me to the last part: work conditions! The excavations run by an university on its own are usually comprised of a team of students working towards their Bachelor's or Master's degree, headed by either a PhD student in cooperation with a teacher (who may or may not be a professor) or just a teacher (more likely not to be a professor). Occasionally there may be volunteers from the local archaeological society, but around here they are more closely connected with the state office.
On the excavations run by the state office or in cooperation with them you'll have excavation techs (aka shovelbums) and such fancy things as an excavator who takes care of the topsoil for you. So while the former is the "building site with an accumulation of nerds" V mentioned, the latter is more "building site with a few nerds and the usual annoying foreman who tells you that you're on a tight timetable". [Mod V would also like to mention that the state office does not do its own digs in all German states. If it does, you have to hire them if something turns up on your construction site. If not, they're technically involved from a legal standpoint, but you have your pick of commercial dig companies to do the actual excavating. The annoying foreman is a fixture of both versions.]
University excavations usually will work with more care for the preservation of artefacts while state department (and private excavation companies) will be able to cover more ground, but sometimes lead to damage on pottery and the like.
(In fact, getting an excavator license and specialising on archaeological digs is a very lucrative job because they are always needed, highly recompensated and some excavator drivers can work with mindblowing precision. Those are worth their weight in gold and will get recommended to the head archaeologist's colleagues.)
More specific conditions like accomodation, pay and adherence to OSHA depends on where you're digging (middle of nowhere, near a settlement, middle of the city, etc.), your degree, how much money the organiser was able to secure for financing the project, whether you're there as an intern (usually paid a pittance (i. e. my last intern dig was 3,13€/h paid as lump sum of 500€ at the end of the four weeks)) or as a hired worker (minimum wage, which currently is 12,82€/h). Student interns will usually get free accomodation of varying quality but have to do their own shopping, cooking and cleaning. Hired workers are expected to commute, so they'll usually be chosen for how close they live to the excavation site or will move there for the duration of the dig.
That's all I can think of for now! I hope I was able to answer your questions, let us know if there's more you'd like to know!

KALEIDOSCOPE: A Sims 4 Legacy Challenge
The basic premise of this legacy challenge I created randomly is that each generation is based off of 10 of the EA hair colors & is loosely inspired by the Not So Berry Challenge that everyone has either played, watched someone played or just heard of. That challenge is very old & The Sims 4 has evolved a lot as a game so this is basically an updated version of it but based on the EA hair colors so that it's easier to play with for simmers who don't use cc or who play on console. Also please note that the colors of the font don't always line up as Tumblr only has a few selected colors I can use & I don't know how to get more lol. I hope you all enjoy this challenge & let me know if any parts of the challenge are not working/broken as I will update it then!
This challenge requires:
EP's: Get to Work, Get Together, City Living, Cats & Dogs, Seasons, Get Famous, Discover University, Eco Lifestyle, Snowy Escape, High School Years, Growing Together, Horse Ranch, Lovestruck + Life & Death
GP's: Vampires, Realm of Magic, Strangerville
SP's: Paranormal
BASIC RULES FOR EVERY GENERATION:
The heir of each generation can be of any gender, sexual orientation, etc. and can date/marry any sim, unless there are specific rules stated regarding this
Unless stated in the rules, where each generation lives, what type of residential lot they live on, what traits the home lot has, how many children an heir has, how many pets an heir has, what other skills they gain/master, whether the heir goes to university or not, etc. are completely up to the player to decide
The traits stated for each generation are the traits the heirs need to have
Cheats are allowed; It is your personal game play so play it how you enjoy!
The recommended lifespan is "Normal" and the next generation shall begin once all requirements of the previous one are completed and the next heir is a Young Adult (the founder must also start as a Young Adult)
Throughout each generation, maintain the ghost of the founder sim (this is important to complete this legacy challenge entirely)
Feel free to change the requirements up if you don't have all required packs or just wanna do something different! I made this based on gameplay mechanics I have and never really use, so that is why there is no For Rent gameplay mechanics as I don't have that pack. But if you do have For Rent & don't have say Lovestruck, you could make Generation Pink based off of For Rent, etc. This is a challenge you can edit & shape to what you have and want to play with!

My Two New Gameplay Sims
Zoey Roche and Megan Faust are roommates in one of Britechester's most luxurious apartments for students. Although they both hail from different rich families, they couldn't be any different. Zoey is shy, studious and a massive Star Wars nerd, whilst Megan is outgoing and always looking for the best party. Zoey's parents instilled the power of hard work into her, as they were owners of the most successful law firm in Brindleton Bay. She is studying Computer Science at University of Britechester, while Megan is studying Physics.
This will be some fun, casual gameplay and storytelling, so I hope you all will hang around and enjoy Zoey and Megan navigating uni life! :)
Thanks to all CC creators

hello yes i have returned with more ITWOM world building questions: what's religion like in the giant world? is it primarily monotheistic or polytheistic? since humans have been dropping into the giant world since before recorded history, do they have their own religions separate from giants? are any of the main characters particularly religious?
similarly, what are the attitudes regarding magic? i know CC is the au branch of ITWOM that is explicitly magical, but are there any overlaps between magic and science in the main universe? since explanations re: the presence of humans in the giant world, why serums and such work the way they do, etc, are all pretty scientific, is magic as a concept treated as fiction?
apologies for the onslaught of questions, there will probably be more in the future. i really enjoy the way you explain things about this world! ^^
*cracks knuckles*
I appreciate all of your questions (i.e. a chance to ramble about my worldbuilding) and while you may not get answers as in-depth as you're probably looking for, I'll be happy to share what I have!
What's religion like?
Giant religion is very similar to our own - a wide variety of religions spanning across many, many cultures and having many, many, different beliefs. The only notable difference is, of course, that most religions reference humans in some way.
There have been religions describing humans as deities or mythological beings (as even in the old days, they were quite rare, moreso than in the present). Their characterization varied wildly. Some religions and cultures taught that humans were messengers of God, or in some way imparted wisdom to giants (as even with memory loss, many of them still carried over memories and knowledge that could be unearthed over time). Other religions taught that humans were tempters, like fae or demons, and were a sign of ill omen.
Eating humans has been seen as:
-A part of a holy ritual (with or without human consent/participation)
-A horrible sin and a gluttonous, earthly indulgence
-A gift from God to enjoy as you please
-A way to banish evil spirits
-A way to invite evil spirits into your home
-A reward reserved for those of the highest authority, or for special occasions/coming of age type rituals
...and any other possible interpretation you can imagine. There is little consistency over time, except...
Humans are hardly ever depicted as equals. There is no mention of human/giant relationships in any major religious texts, except to condemn such relationships as blasphemous and vile. There may have been cultures that treated humans well, or even as equals, but such cultures were small and likely wiped out by the more widespread ones that taught quite the opposite.
In the area where ITWOM takes place, the main religion is monotheistic, and it is quite similar in many of its doctrines to that of Christianity as we know it. That religion teaches that humans are an earthly indulgence and should be avoided - very much objectifying humans. This religion is a big part of the laws that exist to treat humans as drugs.
None of the main characters in ITWOM are particularly religious. The closest would be Nathan's parents, who are both rather devout followers of that currently unnamed religion most of the country follows. It never stuck with Nathan, for multiple reasons (humans, of course, but the religion is also generally anti-LGBT).
Do humans have religion?
Short answer: not really. This is more to do with the fact that even though humans have been coming into the giant world since the beginning of time, their appearances are so sparse and spread out that up until the modern time, there have not been groups of humans congregating together. Their rarity is compounded on the fact that giants usually keep humans for themselves and interfere too much for humans to develop anywhere, and the rare human-sympathizing giant trying to safeguard a group of humans...well, it doesn't usually last long. The modern human cities are young, and they're still quite spread out.
Magic?
Another short answer: magic is not really a thing in the ITWOM world. There are things like dragons, scent masking serums, growth serums, and perhaps the odd thing or two that should defy the laws of physics. Not to mention the rifts.
These things - aside from the rifts, which even giants don't understand - are all seen as scientific to giants. There are physical rules that dictate them. There are plants and even organic compounds in the giant world that don't exist in ours. And as I might have mentioned before, dragon scales are sometimes ground down to create unique chemical reactions for things like the serums. Don't ask me to drop the scientific formula for growth serum. Magic as we would define it simply doesn't exist, or at the very least, it's treated as fiction.
As for the rifts...well, some things I'd like to leave open-ended about my story, and that's one of them. Are they random? Is someone controlling them? What really causes them? Why the memory wipes?
The answer...well, maybe no one will ever know.
I hope this answers some of your questions - I love an excuse to do a little worldbuilding, so please feel free to throw more questions my way if you've got them! And I hope you have a fantastic day, anon!

Stuck in Limbo: a follow-up
this was originally gonna be a reblog of the original Stuck in Limbo explanation post but then it got long and went on a tangent. for the love of god please help me
so... about Limbo.
or, a bit more specifically, about Olm.
this is part of Olm's backstory in Avid Adventures. as you can see from the timestamp, we've known about this for a few months now, but i've kinda filed it away as something to keep an eye out for future AA episodes.
and then Avid's episode 12 dropped, and among the rampant speculation and analysis was a single message that simultaneously tied things together and flipped them on its head:
to summarize: Limbo is where Olm was born, and where Olm was supposed to never leave. they completely consumed it, leaving nothing but emptiness and themself, until someone made the mistake of opening a portal into Limbo and setting them free upon the rest of the universe.
cc!Avid confirmed already that Olm has been toying with sbk!Avid and that the "laws of Incendium" that required Avid to kill the Dark Lord and be banished to Limbo were made up (as explained in the original post), but this fully locks it in. Olm dunked Avid into their home universe for safekeeping and left him to wander for a thousand years until making the deal.
this raises questions. is Avid trapped? Olm was trapped until they were freed by an external force, and they were able to send out part of Avid. are they lying again, or is it actually impossible to escape Limbo without outside intervention? how are people (besides Avid, who was put there on purpose) falling into Limbo "problematic", and what is Olm trying to hide? i'm... gonna have to get into that in another post, i think.
because speaking of tying Avid Adventures and Skyblock Kingdoms together, though, there's one last way for Avid to completely blindside us with a single message.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE HELP ME
for further context: for the first 7 episodes of Avid Adventures, Avid was an enderman.
it wasn't until he broke Olm's curse on Vilethorn that something changed:
"We beat Vilethorn, we cured Rosewood, the mansion is back and beautiful! But something feels... different. Like, when I was down there, I feel like when I cured the curse, something... changed in me too. Like a piece of me... was left behind. And I... can't seem to put my finger on it."
but... that's not the end of it. Avid Adventures has two storylines: the Light Path, where you fight against Olm, and the Dark Path, where you join him instead. that clip is from the Light Path, but when Avid tests out Vilethorn's Dark Path, something strange happens:
"I'm not gonna lie, I feel... kinda bad. If I were to play my own map... I don't think I would do Dark Path. So... This one's for you evil people, I guess! Well at least it can't get any worse, let's get on outta here, looks like we completed the Curse of Vilethorn, and... what's in the reward bag. Oh, gosh. Is it Usim's head? Now I feel even worse! I mean-- [annoyed] Oh, gosh. Enderman again. Well, you guys, it looks like I'm gonna have to run Vilethorn as a good guy in order to get set back to normal, but I will take care of that off camera."
so the implication here is that Avid's humanity is directly tied to Olm's curse, somehow. but... why would that happen in Limbo? it's very brief and happens while Olm is yanking out the soul chunk that becomes sbk!Avid, and honestly i figured it was just a general indication of Olm's influence seeing as that's also their eye color while they're possessing their current vessel:
but... maybe that's the same thing. firstly because Olm's eyes changed during that same scene to what can be assumed to be their "original" eye color based off of what we've seen in AA, but also because we've seen what happens when Olm assumes direct control over our lovable adventurer.
Avid: What-- What-- Uh-- Hello? Who- who put all the blocks here?! Olm: You did. Avid: I put... I did this?! Olm: Yes. Avid: What-- I don't-- remember-- Olm: And you did well. Now... Make. The. Boss. Avid: Uh, guys... Something feels, uh... diff- different. Olm: Don't let them know. Avid: Okay, uh, let's... [cheerful] And guys--!
i don't know what this means for the part of Avid still in Limbo, but it's probably not anything good.
this was going to be a footnote with the main part of the post being "yeah so uh Limbo is Olm's home dimension. what the heck" but uh. the implications are implications-ing and i'm gonna lose it.
(...it is at this point that i reveal that i helped make the half-enderman skin because the entire "aa!Avid was an enderman" thing lives in my head rent-free. and then that skin got actually used.)
#leo.txt#skyblock kingdoms#avid adventures#sbk#sbkcd#meta analysis stuff#leo.pdf#(theres a little bit of transcription in here! AAAAAAAAAAA)#AND IM WORKING ON *ANOTHER* ONE OF THESE POSTS TOO BC IT DONT STOP COMING AND IT DONT STOP COMING AND IT D

Today's (3/21/2025) Episode: Capturing the Moment
“I’m so glad you’re here” Skye greeted xir parents as they came in the front door dragging their suitcases behind them. “I’m feeling a lot better since my surgery, but I got so far behind on things while I was sick, and having you around is going to be a big help in getting back on track.”
“Thank YOU for having US,” Noemi countered “our place is such a mess with your Grandy Jasper remodeling. Right now, the only way to get into the kitchen is to go around the house!” … not to mention SOMEONE needs to make sure you’re actually safe she thought to herself.
Luigi had gotten an earful after they’d heard Candor’s unedited version of the events leading up to Skye’s surgery, but he’d convinced her to keep those feelings to herself in front of the kids. “The last we want to do is alienate them.” he’d reminded her.
“So, what are you two up to these days?” Luigi asked once they were all settled around the table with some good food and tasty drinks.
“I was commissioned by this elder sim to paint her portrait” Elyse replied, “though we haven’t settled on a good place to meet to do it yet.”
Skye sighed “I was supposed to do a photoshoot for this new clothing store in Britechester that caters to the professional crowd, but I was too sick and now I’m almost out of time. I haven’t had a chance to get anyone lined up to photograph. I think I may just have to cancel.”
“Well,” Noemi told xem, “if you need to do a photoshoot for a clothing store catering to university professors, I’m sure Professor Silva would be happy to help. Also, doesn’t one of your tenants at the townhouse teach at Britechester? Do you think he’d be willing model some outfits for you?”
In the end Noemi’s idea worked out well for the entire household, and they all found themselves at Pepper’s Pub one crisp late autumn day.
Professors Silva and Pawn had both happily agreed to participate in Skye’s photoshoot and they even offered to bring a few more teachers with them.
The elder sim Elyse needed to sketch had been open to coming to Britechester for her session, and even Candor had wound up at the pub, on a first date that Luigi’s sister-in-law had set up for him.
“Hello there baby,” Skye said, leaning down and enthusiastically greeting the smallest member of xir little band of fashion models. “I’m really looking forward to doing what you’re doing someday,” xe told the other sim “but I’m waiting my turn. My wife insisted on going first.”
“That’s just the opposite of us” his new friend smiled “My wife works with the space program. She wants to be a little more established in her career before she gets pregnant, so we decided I’d have this one. Carrying this little gal hasn’t been all fun and games, but overall, it's been a cool experience and I’m glad I did it. Best of luck to you and your missus.”
“Thanks” Skye replied, “Now come stand right here, strike a pose, and say Freezer Bunny!”
While Noemi and Luigi were inside taking a walk down memory lane and Candor was attempting to see if Eric was truly “boyfriend” material the kids spent a productive afternoon with their clients.
“You’re doing great Ms. Todd” Elyse smiled “I’m almost done with the preliminary sketch and then you can relax.”
“I think the green and blue go great together Mr. Pawn” Skye assured the elder “reminds me of my dad and I, if we decided to both wear one piece of clothing from each of our closets!”
Once they were finally done, they thanked their respective models for their time and headed inside to find their family for a celebratory drink or two.
Noemi and Luigi’s visit grew out of a little CC Purge I did. I removed most of my build/buy cc and it turned out that included most of the doorways (and a few other critical items) in the Sulani house🤪!
While I was figuring out how to redo the place I decided to create a stayover at the homestead.
