ALSO necromancy ? (diabolik) what is thattttttt

my necromancy diabolik fic is the result of me listening to ballata dell'amore cieco (o dalla vanità) one too many times in a day and brainstorming a fic that is, essentially, what it says on the tin, i.e. the highly canon non-compliant scenario that diabolik Dies on a heist and eva goes slightly off the rails trying to necromance him back to life. fun to think about but i think i need to rework it a bit because the situation itself is very. non-diaboliky.

anyway here's a snippet i wrote when it was consuming my brain entirely:

She doesn’t believe them when they come back two days later and tell her he is dead, that they will kill her too if they do not get what they want. No, instead she laughs and laughs and laughs, because he cannot be killed, she has seen him escape death more times than she can count. Black spots swim across her vision: one of them says something about reducing her dose, waking her up, she’s no use to us like this. She keeps laughing, even when they leave.

They’d taken the cuffs off him to lead him away. That was their first mistake.

She doesn’t believe them even after they stop giving her whatever they’d been using to keep her calm, shivers through the withdrawals for days and shakes her head whenever they tell her he is dead, nobody is coming for you, don’t you understand? He’s dead. You’re alone. Tell us what we want to know.

She doesn’t believe them when they show her the pictures, either. She knows well enough how easy it can be to fake someone’s dead body for photos. The two of them have done it countless times before.

She doesn’t believe them when they take her to see him two days after they tell her he’s dead, not even when she looks at his eyes, staring sightlessly up into nothingness. There is blood everywhere: creative, but slightly too much to be convincing, she thinks. The drugs haven’t quite left her mind completely: she’s dizzy when she stands, when she walks.

She doesn’t believe them until they let her touch the body. She knows well enough how to tell the masks from skin – they’re almost indistinguishable, save for a few tiny details. She knows when she touches the body’s face, brushes its hair back from its forehead where the blood has dried, and her heart stops.

Only then does she believe them. 

She is silent for one terrible minute, unable to tear her eyes away from the body in front of her.

Then she starts screaming, and doesn’t stop.

okay but since we're talking fútbol AU, can i just say that ever since i watched this video i can't stop thinking about a joenicky fútbol AU based on it. i have 0 plot ideas 0 anything only vibes. the enemies to lovers of it all. the sudden tenderness and gentleness with which they try to save each other. peak joenicky imo IDK IDK I JUST HAD TO SHARE THAT BECAUSE IT'S BEEN IN MY HEAD FOR MONTHS

okay first, that video is GOLD ajehjf i love it. there are so many good fútbol moments that could go in fics, like it makes me insaneeee i could talk about it for hours. the switch from enemies to just LADS it's so great

If you’re looking for a new Sydcarmy story to sink your teeth into, I just updated chapter 3 of my elevator story.

If you haven’t read it, it’s a classic elevator trope. What happens when Syd and Carmy get trapped in an elevator after they’ve done one last gig for Uncle Jimmy before Syd’s ties to The Bear are severed? She’s pissed at him (unsurprising)… but what happens when they’re stuck together in a confined space.

I thought this was just going to be a fun, little one shot, but I guess I’m simply not capable. This story took a turn I wasn’t expecting, but I’m enjoying it and it’s gearing up for a spicy, satisfying ending (eventually).

39,154 (excluding Galladrabbles, WIPs and the story for the Masquerade).

Including the story for the Masquerade that will get posted by the end of the week, 15.

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

Retrograde - a Firstprince AU where they're both immortal and only realise it a century and a half later, when they meet again completely by accident. I just stumbled upon the prompt and I couldn't get it out of my head.

4. What work of yours has the most hits?

Ready for this to be (Firstprince, college AU) - almost 5.7k hits. It probably helps that it was posted back in January 😝

5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Waiting for Magic - simply because there's no pairing and I wrote it over 3 years ago for what was supposed to be a collab that eventually fell through. It's for The Old Guard, centred on one character and his alternate origin story and I wasn't expecting anyone to even leave a kudos, let alone comment.

6. Favorite title you used.

Either "Watch out for me" or "With our backs against the world" - can't really decide 😅

7. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?

My go-to has always been Glass Animals but funnily enough, this year there aren't two fics with titles from the same artist 😅

8. Pairing you wrote the most for this year?

Firstprince - I'm in a phase 😜

Yeah, no, not playing favourites. If I write for it, it means I love it.

10. What work was the quickest to write?

A matter of time (The Gentlemen (series), post-canon), my entry for Level Up! Granted, it's only 1.2k words but I remember just breezing through it.

11. What work took you the longest to write?

Probably Swimmin' in my mind (Siena dream) - it's among the longest and it was also part of the Gallavich Gift Exchange, so I paid closer attention to a lot of aspects I normally disregard because I wanted it to be as close to perfect as possible.

12. How many WIPs do you have in your docs for next year?

Four, theoretically, though one of them is just two fragments of dialogue.

13. What’s your longest work of the year?

Swimmin' in my mind (Siena dream), at a whopping 6,649 words 😅

14. What’s your shortest work of the year?

Excluding all Galladrabbles, With our backs against the world, at exactly 900 words.

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

Definitely a Firstprince one-shot that's a sort of sequel for the first story I ever wrote for this pairing and which I'm planning to post for the Hey, Sweetheart event.

Henry - he's such a fascinating character, made up of a whole slew of contradictions.

Henry 😅 Despite my ease at slipping into formal and very formal English, his voice felt really intimidating at first and made me second-guess all my sentences and turns of phrase.

19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

I don't know, tbh. The Old Guard 2 is coming out, so there's a high chance I revisit my roots (i.e. Book of Nile and Kaysanova) but honestly, anything might draw my attention enough for me to want to write a story.

Retrograde - see above 😁 It's part of the triad (together with a Gallavich story and a TOG one).

CUDDLING. it's snowing as I type this! it doesn't snow here every winter anymore so this is notable! while the snow is pretty the wind chill is very much not. I AM COLD. therefore the blorbos cuddling each other is especially >:)))))))))

this reminds me of a ficlet I drafted like last summer I think and put down for a minute and really deserves to finally get its moment in the spotlight. a ficlet for The Bear! it's a cute silly what if Syd and Carmy did a youtube thing a la Sohla and Ham's NYT Cooking series, inspired by something @laviejaguardia and I talked about in the comments of her majestic fic a new take on faith. 19 the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic

I talked here about the Booker's long walk home meta but I've researched so many things surely I can think of a part 2 for this question. hmm. I spent a good few hours researching modern treks across Europe for this ficlet, basically Booker's long walk home but in reverse as a modern meet-cute. oh and I've also done a ton of plane and train and car travel plotting for my I-swear-I'm-going-to-finish-this-someday wip What If Nile Died a Week Earlier. I'm great on a road trip I like to be prepared!!

I did so so much research back in the day for I See Your Eyes Seek a Distant Shore, about all kinds of things. including but very much not limited to: languages Nile might want to focus on learning early in her immortality, which of the world's biggest problems Nile and Copley might want to look into, creepy militias in US border states acting as volunteer border patrol, refugee atheltics programs, art museums in London, thematically fitting art all over the world, so many things. I think I watched a full work week's 40 hours of Black haircare videos that fall to get a better sense of Nile's day to day considerations for her hair.

Ooh this is a fun question, thanks to @ambeauty and @erins-quinn for asking me. Truth be told, I have only ever written fan fic for The Bear, so that makes this pretty easy:

1. One night in bed, Sydney has an idea for a shared tattoo. Unsurprisingly, it’s not difficult to convince Carmy. For her it’s just an idea, but Carmy can’t wait to get started.

2. and who doesn’t love a good sick fic?

What if Sydney took Shapiro’s offer and left The Bear? My timeline is shit but let’s say the new restaurant is already open and she hasn’t seen Carmy in months. Of course they reach for the same box of Nyquil under the harsh lighting at Walgreen’s when they both have Covid. What else do you even need to know?

3. What if Syd and Carmy met in the 90’s? Specifically 1997 in a suburban shopping mall just outside Chicago. Carmy’s running a second location of The Beef, and Syd is working at the bookstore. Mikey is still alive, so it’s the same but not fueled by trauma. Enjoy the fluff!!

4. Can I just say that at first glance, this story seems like it’s just gonna be super smutty and maybe hard for you to get through? But give it a chance because I promise you, it’s not really about that. 🤣 So if you’ve seen this pop up on AO3 and thought that maybe it’s just going to be an out of control sex story and skipped it, this story is for you.

Ok, to the actual summary part now: Syd has never been what you'd call a great sleeper. But lately, she's been having increasingly wild sex dreams about her business partner. She begins keeping a diary about it to gather her thoughts and courage. If she doesn't tell Carmy soon, she's going to lose her mind.

5. It’s Halloween and let’s just pretend the restaurant is closed, ok? Syd visits her mom at the cemetery. And whose grave is near Syd’s mom’s? Yeah. Mikey’s.

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to because I love them, and that’s why sometimes I fall into that trap of “I need to adequately convey how happy this comment made me, I can’t just say ‘thank you’’ and then I leave it for too long. Also sometimes I don’t have the spoons at that moment. But I appreciate every last one of them.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I love angst, but I love a happy ending even more, so in my fic the angst usually gets resolved. A fic that regularly leaves people in tears, though, is At Samhain, but the ending has hope.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

So many happy endings! ☺️ One of the happiest might be my Merlin Age of Sail AU, The Seven Seas , which has a very happy ending after a lot of angst and heartache.

7. Do you write crossovers?

No, not really.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Not really personal attacks so much, but I have received snide comments, character bashing and absurdly wilful misinterpretations. And always on anon of course.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, I do. I’m a proud alumni of multiple Pornathons in the Merlin fandom. When I write kink, it tends to be PWP of the kind that’s about losing control, or pushing the lines of taboos. In my longer or more plotty fic it’s more emotional, focused on the characters’ connection.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I once had someone write a fic that had the exact same plot down to locations and minor details and even almost the same dialogue as one I was posting. Like a (bad) rewrite. It was very weird.  

11. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, a few, which I’m ever so grateful for. 💕

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. I’m honestly not sure how that would work for me. 😅

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Joe/Nicky really is the fulfillment of all my shippy hopes and dreams. 😍 Beyond them, maybe Cherik. I like the drama. 😂

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

A Cherik bodyswap fic, set between XMFC and Days of Future Past, while Erik is imprisoned. I love the premise and what I have so far, but it’s been so long that I’ve been in that fandom.

15. What are your writing strengths?

Conveying emotions and believable dialogue

Transitions and being overly dramatic, which is probably connected lol

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I do enjoy it in sprinkles, if it’s done well. Endearments, curses, stuff that mostly won’t need a translation footnote but grounds a character in a different cultural background. 

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I wrote stuff before I knew about fanfiction. Before you could find (and easily post) stuff on the internet. But the first fic I wrote and posted was Harry Potter, gen with very, very heavy wolf star undertones 😅

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

I don’t really have an unfulfilled craving right now, and I tend to focus on one fandom, and even one ship almost exclusively, but I’m a little surprised at myself for never having written Sterek. 🤔

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

That is so hard to pick, but two favourites are Shalom Malak for XMFC and If You Abide With Me for TOG
