Because he’s been suffering alone in this for YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS and here he is, finally opening up about his Giant Mistake and how it Ruined Everything and Killed Everyone and Should Make Them Hate Him - and they give him a little tap and a smile and hold him gently. 

And the way that he doesn’t have his parents anymore - he lost them a long time ago. But now he has Kurogane and Fai and they’ve forgiven him for everything and THAT’S FILLING A GAP THAT’S BEEN EMPTY IN HIS LIFE FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

Some CDs I ordered were delivered while my partner was home and I realized I didn't have a working CD player at the moment to test them, and right as we were giving up brain storming she pulled a whole KAREOKE machine out from a deep recess of our apartment and it was like an answered prayer 🤣 so we dusted it off, tested all my new CDs ( 3 Bright Eyes and a Monsters of Folk!!) and also pulled both our whole collections out to go through together

Music has always been a big connection point for my partner and I, it's initially what brought up together as friends back in highschool. We have so many memories of smoke rides down back roads listening to these CDs, so it was a cool full circle moment

While I was at work she set everything up in our kitchen on display so now we have both our collections together, and a cute little music station!!

I am fascinated by the choice to split that top panel in two. How Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona are all presented to us as whole, but Lava Lamp is cut down the middle. We don’t see his face. There is a void right down his centre. 

It’s visually just two panels, but they’re aligned like they could have been one panel all the way across, with no breaks - but it tells us so much more about Lava Lamp that this is how we see him. That he’s in the shadow. That he’s standing apart. That he is not whole and hasn’t been since he was a child. 

Meanwhile we get a few flashes of his other memories of growing up in Clow and the bonds he made with the royal family along the way. We have what looks like magic time with Nadeshiko, sword practice with Touya, Eating Food with Yukito (I’m screaming, Of course Yukito’s hobby is eating food), and reading books with Fujitaka! He has a shared interest with each of them, but amazing that the bond with Fujitaka really reflects how much of a scholarly connection his clone will have with Fujitaka when raised by him. 

Oh, and we have hands! Lava Lamp holding hands with Sakura as the most central motif of his time with her - or specifically, the moment BEFORE their hands touch, as that’s the point that’s most painful, the biggest echo of his biggest trauma, the moment that hangs over him every minute of his life. 

Aw and he brings it back around! His positive experiences and happy memories fortify him against the weight of it all and feed back into his determination to save her all over again.

Which is great! But I hope Lava Lamp knows he can just HAVE negative feelings on their own without them feeding back into a determined outlook every single time. Which like, isn't the point because this isn't therapy, this is a manga narrative, but still!

Also he IS a Syaoran so maybe he can't control that part of him.

WARP CORE DEEP DIVE!

Where it all began. So much so, that they never quite nailed down what anything in engineering was. We know the thing in the middle was a "matter/antimatter integrator" and it had a dilithium crystal in it. But it didn't appear until later on, the floor was originally empty. There were also large transformer-ish things that moved about as the plot demanded. The big thing behind the mesh? That's the pipe cathedral. Maybe it was an impulse engine (as per the old Star Trek Blueprints by Franz Joseph) or perhaps it was part of the warp drive. Originally the idea was that the warp nacelles generated their own power. But that would change soon...

The Animated Series gave us something very similar to the TOS engine room, with the pipe cathedral and one BIG transformer, but instead of the matter/antimatter integrator we got a glass tube with what looked like measurements on it. Maybe it's a proto-warp core a la TMP, especially since it's in a similar spot to Strange New Worlds'. Or maybe it's a coolant pipe like the 2009 movie. Who knows? We also saw inside the "antimatter nacelle" in one episode, which is generally assumed to mean inside one of the warp engines themselves but it's all a bit vague.

The Motion Picture gave us the original Big Blue Lava Lamp, the physical set was 3 stories high but augmented with forced-perspective, in the form of a painting at the bottom of the shaft and a truncated horizontal intermix chamber crewed by children at the end of the main level. The engineering crew on the main deck now wear radiation suits, adding to the idea this big blue thing isn't your friend.

This was also the Big Retcon, making the intermix chamber the power source for the warp nacelles. Every Trek regardless of era would follow this route.

In Wrath of Khan, they'd add a very important side room with dilithium crystals in for Spock to self-sacrifice in. I always found it very amusing this room, where the most important part of the engineering machinery was, was in no way physically connected to the intermix chamber. Nor did it exist in the previous movie.

The Next Generation gave us a pot-bellied stove, with neon segments glowing one-by-one up and down to give the impression of pulses of energy colliding in the middle then being fed to the nacelles. No more radiation suits needed, and the room has a nice carpet. This was also the first time "warp core" was used, a phrase that would retroactively be applied to all the prior ones.

The Enterprise-E and DS9's Defiant would have bigger and smaller warp cores that were variations on the same theme as TNG.

Voyager brought back the classic Motion Picture big blue lava lamp, just without the horizontal tube this time. It does the nifty swirly thing too. Q Junior makes it do club lighting one time.

NX-01 Enterprise is just kind of this big industrial tank with some glowy bits. It's weird that in the classic movies they needed radiation suits to work in engineering, but in the series set 100 years earlier they didn't.

The 2009 reboot filmed engineering in a thinly disguised Budweiser brewery, which made the area look enourmous and extremely complex, but lost all the high tech clean room vibes prior shows had. What in real life were giant brewing tanks housed the intermix chambers which made up the warp core, which were ejected through a hatch in the roof at the end. This look was extremely controversial with some, but personally I loved it.

In Into Darkness the warp core looks like an almighty piece of kit, and that's because they shot on location at the Lawrence Livermore National Ignition Facility. It's a real-life fusion reactor. And then you can climb inside it and it turns out that inside is one very important laser thing, some dilithium crystals you barely see and lots of deadly radiation. At least the self sacrificing happens inside the core itself and not a weird separate side chamber this time. The brewery from the last movie was still there, implying this was all along even if we didn't visit it. But that complicates things because the bits they called the warp core are very different. Perhaps the intermix chambers ejected last movie and core seen here are all part of the same huge warp core system.

Strange New Worlds reboots the original... sort of. They put a vertical intermix chamber in there and instead of a mesh and forced perspective they've got an AR wall with an enourmous array of high tech pipes. But weirdly, the writers guide says the big AR wall with the updated pipe cathedral is the deflector dish machinery not the warp core. I guess the confusion makes it more authentic TOS.

Baby, You Glow Like a Lava Lamp

Imagine, if you will, your first time with Vash (the Stampede).

And all is going well, you’re prepped and ready to take him, only to learn he’s a lot bigger and thicker than you were expecting (I mean, he is a tall behemoth of a man, you should have expected this, but still)!

But he goes slow and takes his time, letting you adjust to his size, giving words of encouragement and kissing along your throat and jaw to distract you from the sharp prick at your sensitive hole. But once he’s all the way in, the dull ache still doesn’t subside and any movement just hurts, no matter how relaxed or lubricated you are.

And poor Vash, he hates seeing you in any kind of discomfort or pain and just wants you to feel good and enjoy this moment with him and to take your mind off of everything you two have been through and-

He gets the panicked idea to try and calm you manually. You suddenly feel the sensation of his forehead against yours, his hands intertwining both his and yours together. You look to see his eyes are closed, mind focused, and skin… glowing?

He’s glowing?? A bright neon blue appearing in patterns along his skin and slowly spreading throughout. You blink in awe, a sudden sensation overcoming you but confused as to what exactly what is happening.

You feel warm all over, like your core is heating up, much comfier than before. You look down to see that the markings spread down even to his groin and decorate along his skin.

And then you notice that your stomach is glowing a soft, dim blue from deep inside where his length resides, nestled comfortably in you like roots taking purchase. Your breath hitches as the same weird markings appear dimly on the skin of your stomach, not as legible, faded in a way, but still there.

It’s as if you two were connected where his length has made root inside you.

The thought only made your body grow hotter as your walls clenched around him, sucking him in more and sending waves of newfound euphoria all throughout your body. The sensation was different and much more comforting, in a way. You couldn’t fully understand it, but you liked the feeling nonetheless. The closeness between you two making you much more recipient towards him.

Only when your body completely accepted him and became relaxed in his hold did Vash start moving inside you once again; the two of you still glowing a neon blue in the darkened room.

Hi. It’s me thinking about Monster Hunter Wilds again because of the Beta. Just filled out the survey for it and wanted to rant about the changes to what I’m now thinking will probably be my main in the game once it comes out: Insect Glaive. My Dragoon loving heart can’t resist an airborne based spear weapon lmao.

Now, this lamp on a stick of a weapon has been the topic of controversy ever since the first reports of its rework came about. It’s one of few weapons in Wilds that I feel are getting an overhaul of sorts, alongside the Gunlance Bow and Bowguns. Unfortunately, unlike the other three there the changes to the IG were mostly…shit. And I hate that it’s the weapon I had the most fun with in the Beta looking back.

Firstly, you don’t get access to your upgraded moveset without the triple extract anymore, before all you needed was the red extract. I get why this was done from a gameplay standpoint. Capcom wanted to incentivize people to actually work for the triple buff rather than only go for red and white and ignore orange, but this was the absolute worst way to go about it. And the solution is painfully obvious (which means they’re never gonna do it): just swap the bonuses of the red extract and triple buff. Have red upgrade your moveset like normal and have triple buff unlock the ability to charge your attacks. This still incentivizes getting triple buff but doesn’t invalidate your entire playstyle if you can’t reach the orange buff on a monster, which some can be a huge pain in the ass to get to.

The removal of the aerial bounce is sad but only because it removes options from the weapon. I couldn’t care less about the “The Floor Is Lava” playstyle, it’s not how I’ve ever played IG. But regardless the move was useful for repositioning in the air, and now it was taken away for no apparent reason while Longsword gets every kind of option under the sun to do whatever it wants with no commitment or repercussions whatsoever.

The new tornado slash is a good move, in concept. You spend your buffs right before they run out and your kinsect grabs new ones as it attacks with you (side note, the kinsect attacking in tandem with you in focus mode is a fantastic change that should’ve always been part of the core moveset). The issue comes from the fact that the kinsect can extract multiples of the same color buff at the same time…why? What purpose could that possibly fucking serve? Tornado slash would be so much fucking better if it just didn’t allow the bug to double or TRIPLE up on the same damn buff color.

But in spite of all of this, and the overall lack of hitstop on weapons in the Beta, I couldn’t help but have the most fun with the Insect Glaive. Again, the new stuff they added is all great, I love the new buff spender and the charge attacks. Everything felt it flowed together flawlessly.

I don’t know where I was going with this, I just needed to get my mind off of current events and vent my frustrations and hopes for this game. Hoping Capcom puts out a proper demo to alleviate the concerns people have over the Beta.
