“The subconscious psychology that you use against me… If I lose control will send me to the penitentiary… Such as Alcatraz, or shot up like al Hajj Malik Shabazz… High class get bypassed while my ass gets harassed… And the fuzz treat bruh's like they manhood never was… And if you too powerful, you get bugged like Peter Tosh and Marley was… And my word does nothing against the feds, so my eyes stay red as I chase crazy bald heads, word up!” - Lauryn Hill, “The Beast” CARTER️ Magazine carter-mag.com #wherehistoryandhiphopmeet #historyandhiphop365 #cartermagazine #carter #laurynhill #hiphop #mc #50thanniversaryofhiphop #staywoke https://www.instagram.com/p/CoCfVM8rQTE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I'm on the other side, it's alright, just hold me in the dark (I'm on the other side, it's alright, just hold me in the dark) No one's got to know what we do, hit me up when you're bored (No one's got to know) Nah (what we do, hit me up when you're bored) 'Cause I live down the street, so we meet when you need it, it's yours All I hear is Nothin' feels better than this Nothin' feels better Nothin' feels better than this Nothin' feels better, no, no We don't gotta hide This is what you like, I admit Nothin' feels better than this

"She {Aaliyah} was such a beautiful spirit and worked hard. Like, she delivered man! Every time I shoot, I collect Polaroid’s and tape them together to show the journey. I chased her down the hall and said, “Hey, look, will you sign this?” It’s a tradition. Every time I shoot I have people sign the Polaroid. We had talked about shooting in the Caribbean. I said, “Hey, I’m a big fan of Jamaican culture. Let’s go to Jamaica and shoot you in a bikini, in the water, here and there and on the back of a scooter with some Rasta driving and let’s tell stories man. Let’s go have some fun”. She wrote on the Polaroid, “I’ll see you in the Caribbean”. So like, every time I take off and go down there, it’s like, I remember that. I remember the moments and I feel her every time I’m in the Caribbean. "
--- Jonathan Mannion on working with Aaliyah Haughton and setting up to do a photo shoot in the Caribbean with her. I attached the image Aaliyah wrote on. Aaliyah writes "Can't Wait 4 the Caribbean. See ya then".
