So fun that Grey’s Anatomy flipped the ‘bisexuals are cheaters’ stereotype on its head by having Callie (the bisexual) be cheated on twice! Once by a straight man and once by a lesbian.

Arizona cheating feels so out of character and really random.
I feel like I'd understand it more if it was a random one night stand with a stranger in a bar after a fight with Callie, or if it was someone she'd been leaning on for some time and had gotten to know for a while before hooking up, either after a fight with Callie or simply because they'd grown close.
Instead they played it like she met eyes with this random woman in a coffee shop and instantly had feelings for her (like some kind of really bad romance fic). Even if she just instantly had a crush on her for whatever reason, it still feels like it's come out of nowhere and just seems like really lazy writing.

So i know that nobody wants to talk about Lauren Boswell but can we discuss that Arizona felt like she had to tell Lauren that she only had one leg? As in, don't even bother flirting with me, I'm a cripple? Because i would say that shows the first time arizona actually felt beautiful and desirable was when lauren flirted with her. Which begs an interesting question, why didn't her own wife, who was clearly still into her, make her feel that way.
honestly it’s just further proof of how damaged calzona’s relationship was in s9.
there’s a lot of discussion about sex in s9 - namely arizona not being ready, and callie being frustrated about not having any (which really callie, priorities??) i think for arizona, a lot of it is wrapped up with feeling like she will never be the woman callie fell in love with and married and that she will always disappoint callie. which is sort of true - she fundamentally can’t be the same person but her fears about disappointing callie are unfounded. but callie’s insistence on sex and getting things back to normal i think added a lot of stress for arizona. i’d wager that they started having sex sooner than arizona was really ready for and obviously the baby thing was way too soon.
she just couldn’t believe that callie actually found her attractive bc callie knew her before. but boswell didn’t. boswell flirted with her, the her that had one leg. and i think that probably felt more genuine in a way to arizona than coming from callie. like callie’s her wife, arizona feels like callie’s obligated to say nice things. but she didn’t believe it at the time. boswell has no such obligation and doesn’t have that baggage.

can believe nobody ever joked how arizona and erica looked a bit alike. cristina yang, where were you when we needed you? but also did cristina ever actually find out there was something between callie and erica, i have no idea because i kind of skipped right to s5 when a certain someone appears
cristina does find out but only after erica leaves!
also no because you have no idea the can of worms you just opened wrt to me, callie, blonde women, and the process of racialization
because in s3 (potentially 4) callie tells george that meredith and izzie remind her of the girls who used to bully her in middle school for being weird and different
callie talks a couple times about being othered as an adolescent, and i find all of that so fascinating because of what meredith and izzie represent when you compare them to callie: blonde, thin white women who have never been excluded from white standards of femininity. and then callie, who is so obviously insecure about the idea of being considered attractive under that standard, who cannot ever completely adhere to white femininity regardless of how hard she tries. she will never be let into the club
the whole "she's izzie, she's blonde, she's stacked, she's a supermodel," "and what does that make me?" conversation is so indicative of this. the grey's writers do this overall decent depiction of how latinas are both hypersexualized and defeminized but they're entirely unaware of it-- they just simply are hypersexualizing a defeminizing a latina! izzie's immediate, antagonistic reaction to callie as weird and aggressive and unhygenic is categorically racist. george responding to callie's insecurities with "you're curvy, i never thought you'd go for me," is categorically racist, meredith's "she's hot, like, dirty hot," is categorically racist
and then for callie to exclusively date women who represent this brand of idealized white femininity that she has been explicitly excluded from as soon as she realizes she's attracted to women is, actually, an incredibly realistic depiction of how woc respond to racialization! it's fascinating! the writers don't even know they're doing it! callie doesn't even know she's doing it! but i do! she's never dated a brunette-- let me repeat that, she has never dated a brunette
erica and arizona and lauren boswell and even penny represent something for callie, in the same way izzie and meredith represent something for callie. the type is not uninfluenced by how callie was racialized as an adolescent, sexuality does not exist in a vacuum, yada yada yada something something i read too much race theory but you cannot convince me that these things are unrelated sorry

At a weekend concert we also saw an exhibit of Lauren Boswell's artwork. Dainty vibe, appreciated for all the effort she puts into each shadow box.

Ok so we're all here for Calzona. We all love them separately as characters and together as a couple. So I don't want this to come off the wrong way. I love Calzona too. But. Reading all of this discussion is making me question if Callie was good for Arizona at all. Disabled, dicorced, etc. might be a sad description, but it's accurate. Arizona's life and her career went downhill after meeting Callie. She had to give up too much, make too many compromises while Callie was jus living her life with the added bonus of having a woman who loved her. Idk. I'm seriously having an existential crisis rn. Would Arizona be better off if she never met Callie?
so i sort of answered this here
and like i said ^^, so many of calzona's issues are external, which magnifies their very normal relationship problems. their problems become the most extreme version of problems. but at the end of the day, they fit together, they make each other better.
i think in any relationship, arizona would be prone to giving things and changing for her partner, purely bc of who she is and her background. which isn't really on callie.
i guess this is sort of a question of correlation vs causation. did bad things happen to arizona because she was with callie or did bad things just happen while she was with callie?
personally, i think that callie did make arizona's life better, i think arizona probably never would've settled down without someone special aka callie and she would've maybe had more professional success, but be far lonelier. like low key, she'd probably be lauren boswell.
