Some more fun bits about the process:

Laura requested that Vex and Percy match in their fashion, so I coordinated their colours!

There was a whole back and forth whether Scanlan would be an overall small centaur or a small gnome body on a regular horse. As you see, we went with the latter.

I gave Vex the gold earcuff. You know why~

I ended up giving myself a 'druid = body piercing' headcanon because some idiot argued that they cannot wear metal way way back when I first dre Kiki with a septum piercing. So that's why Cerkonos has a nipple ring ✌️

Taliesin came up with the suntree pattern on Percy's coat like that and it rules!!! What a rad idea.

Vex's style was described to me as 'corporate ranger'!

Both our gnomes look older than they teeechnically should, lore wise, on request of the players. I actually was really happy about that - the passage of time is important and it's beautiful to show it off ❤️

The other option for Scanlan's bumper sticker (lmao) was 'You Spice?'

I worked under my own goal to make a of these a bisexuals fucking nightmare so, yeah.

The Gipson Girls Job: Ch. 6

Chapter Six

They spent most of the afternoon working on building up her strength. Though her limbs shook and her bruised ribs ached, she let out a small sound of triumph when she could make an entire lap of the living room by herself. Eliot watched her from the armchair, where she’d bid him sit while she made the attempt. It was all he could do to stay seated and let her do it on her own, but because she had insisted, he obediently remained where he was. He was twice impressed by her progress, though he was sure that Laura would have skinned him alive for letting her do so much so fast. Embyr sank onto the couch, a light sheen of sweat glistening on her skin, the wisps of her hair plastered to her head. She had taken off his coat an hour ago, and even the T-shirt she wore bore darkened patches wet with perspiration. “I think I’ll be ready to meet the team tomorrow.” She announced. “But first, I want a shower.” 

Eliot would have argued, insisting that she needed an additional day or two to recover her strength, but the look of determination on her face stayed his tongue. “I will have to go out and get you some clothes. No point in putting those sweaty ones back on.” He pointed out. Embyr nodded. “I’d like to go with you.” She requested. He shook his head. “It wouldn’t be safe for you to wander about.” He replied. She quirked an eyebrow at him. “I don’t think Skullface is going to send an assassin to look for me at a thrift store or Ross.” He had to admit, she did have a point. They were over an hour and a half away from the Gipson’s base of operations, so it was unlikely that they would have eyes in this part of the state. He sighed, relenting. “Alright, let’s go shopping.” 

Embyr insisted on going to a thrift store rather than a department store, despite Eliot’s reassurance that he didn’t mind buying her new clothes. “New clothes never really had any appeal to me. My foster families thought they could buy my obedience or love with new clothes or shoes or electronics. I would have been happier with their time and attention.” She admitted, pausing to steal a glance at Eliot as he drove. “Or art supplies.” She amended. He smiled, making a mental note to get her some at the first opportunity.

Since there were only a few thrift shops to choose from, and Embyr hadn’t been specific, he pulled into the first one he came to. He helped her down from the cab of the truck, trying to be gentle with her. Still, she couldn’t hide the grimace as his grip on her waist tightened when he set her down. She smiled in an effort to keep him from worrying, but by the way that smile dimmed, his expression showed it hadn’t worked. He kept his hand close as they walked, just in case she needed his support. 

Embyr took her time browsing the women’s section, slender fingers leafing through the selection with careful consideration. He sat patiently on the bench outside the fitting rooms, watching her. She was moving better now, better than he anticipated. He had offered to walk around with her, but she had politely waved him off. She was a very independent woman, and he respected that. There was almost no stiffness in her gait, no wobble to her steps now. He hadn’t realized that he was staring until she walked back to him, her choices slung over her arm. “Everything alright?” She asked, a slight curve of her lips lifting her tone in playfulness. He smirked. “Yeah, I’m fine. So, what did you find?” He asked, drawing her attention back to her selection. “Jeans, and two shirts.” She announced, holding them out for him. “Why don’t you go try them on?” He offered. She hesitated, but nodded. 

As she disappeared into the stall next to him, he shook his head. What are you doing, Spencer? He berated himself. It occurred to him that every time he chastised himself, it was always in his CO’s voice from his military days. He was sure that they would have a few things to say about his discipline right about now. Embyr re-emerged from the dressing stall and he had to stifle a groan. He was grateful that he had opted for baggier pants. The jeans fit her like a second skin, hugging her curves unmercifully. The top she had chosen to pair with them was a pale lavender color, which really brought out the green in her eyes. Grey trim accented the pastel purple beautifully. She turned for him, anxiety in her eyes. “What do you think?” She asked. He smiled. “It looks good on you. That purple really makes your eyes stand out.” He told her truthfully. She blushed, the color dancing across her cheeks as she vanished into the stall again. 

Eliot crossed one leg over the other, hoping to cover his reaction as he willed calm into his limbs. He hadn’t had this harsh and persistent a reaction to a female since he was a teenager. It was almost embarrassing.

The second blouse was a fluttery, floral material with short cap sleeves and buttons down the front. It was cute, the flowers a riot of yellows and pinks. Her blush had not subsided as he praised her second choice, the color tinting her tiny ears as she went to change back. He stood, making a cursory study of his own, grabbing a soft, fluttery cotton nightshirt and short set. She needed something comfortable to sleep in. He told himself. 

Embyr stared at the clothes where they were folded neatly on the fitting room bench. That unfathomable look had flickered in Eliot's eyes as he had looked at her, particularly in the purple shirt. She had known that purple brought out the green in her gaze, and had often unconsciously gravitated to it as a result. Many of her own designs had been done in varying shades of purple and emerald green for that very reason. Each had brought out the shifting hazel of her eyes to fantastic proportions. She had to admit that the look in Eliot’s eyes had butterflies fluttering in her belly.

When she emerged from the stall a few moments later, Eliot held out a cotton sleep set. She had seen it, but had been conscious of spending too much on clothes she likely would only wear until Skullface and his cronies were behind bars. “For you to sleep in.” He announced as he held it out for her. It was white cotton, tiny pink and red roses dotted all over it. Delicate white lace trimmed the edges. She smiled. “Thank you.” She managed, that pesky blush heating her cheeks again. He nodded, his smile broadening. “I think it suits you. So, are we all set?” He asked, extending his arms for her burden of clothes. She obliged him, setting them on top of the sleep set. She nodded in response to his question, but paused for a moment. “Hang on, one more thing…” She said almost sheepishly as she made her way to the Women’s Intimates section. She came back a moment later with a bra in her hand, adding it to the pile. He nodded, then glanced away from the garment. He nearly jumped when her tiny hand curled around his forearm, her face suddenly very, very serious as he glanced at her. “Thank you, Eliot. For everything you've done for me. It's more than anyone except my sister has ever done for me.” Her voice shook, and she fell silent. He placed his hand over hers. “I couldn't stand by and do nothing. Not then, and certainly not now. I was committed the moment I saw you in that alley, and I never leave things unfinished.” He squeezed her hand once then let it go. 

“On a lighter note, since it seems that your tongue is pretty much mended, what would you like for dinner? I bet you are about souped out.” She smiled, the melancholy vanishing from her gaze. “Oh definitely. No offense, your soup is superb, but I am soooo ready for solid food.” She replied. He nodded, leading her to the checkout. There was a department store around the corner where they could pick up pretty much anything she wanted. She seemed to ponder her options as he paid for the clothes. 

The cashier was a middle aged woman that made no attempt to cover the fact that she was eyeing him up and down like eye candy. Casually, he draped an arm over Embyr's shoulders, pulling her a little closer. To his relief, she didn't pull away, but snuggled into his side. Her eyes met his for a moment, then slid to the cashier's, whose expression soured. A sweet, besmitten expression bloomed on Embyr's face as she smiled at the woman. “Thank you, and have a great day!” She said brightly as Eliot steered her from the counter.

“Thanks for that.” He murmured into her hair as they walked away. She smiled up at him. “Of course. That woman looked like she wanted to eat you.” She said, giggling. It was an exaggeration of course, but he was grateful for the ruse anyway. “Though I don't know if it was me that did it, or this…” She gestured to her throat, where the bruise was still dark purple against her pale skin. “This is a bit off-putting.” She admitted, her bubbly tone dimming a bit. He was about to tell her otherwise when she straightened, putting some distance between them. He stifled a protest, not wanting to let her go so soon. But then she slid her hand in his, a casual gesture that still kept up appearances. Instinctually, he brought her hand to his lips for a featherlight kiss. 

Embyr didn't know what possessed her to snuggle into him, but the look of discomfort on his face as that woman had all but stripped him with her eyes had seething jealousy bubbling up in her chest. She had leveled the cashier with as polite an expression as she could muster, but her eyes had been warning enough. She wasn't sure if it was her smile or the bruises that had the cashier's expression souring, but she didn't really care. It had satisfaction cooling the flames in Embyr's belly. Walking like this, hand in hand, did something to her insides. It felt incredibly natural, Eliot’s hand wound so gentle and so warm around hers. Her heart felt lighter than it had in weeks, and just for a few moments she could put the seriousness of her situation to the back burner. She fought the urge to lean against him, not for support exactly, but just for the pleasure of just being near him. This was dangerous territory, she knew. She didn't really know him, and until the Gipsons were dealt with, couldn't risk any attachment. 

Eliot opted to walk to the grocer, giving Embyr more time to decide. She seemed lost in thought as they walked. “What’s on your mind?” He asked quietly, watching her with those deep blue eyes of his. She smiled up at him once more. “I'm feeling spaghetti and meatballs.” She told him. Eliot returned her smile, fighting everything inside him that screamed for him to close the distance and kiss that tempting cupid's bow. Even with her hair pulled up in a four day bun, and the discolored patches of her clothes from her sweat, she was still beautiful. In an understated, natural way. He shook himself. He knew that getting attached like this was a mistake, but it was so easy to just be with her. So damnably easy. There was no pressure to be who he was not, and there was no reservation in her nature. If she noticed his struggle, she made no comment. His smile grew. “A lady after my own heart. Garlic bread to go with it?” He offered. She nodded eagerly. He chuckled at her excitement, turning the corner and together, they went grocery shopping.

He never thought something as mundane as grocery shopping could be fun. But Embyr had a way about her that made him smile at the simplest things. How she inspected every loaf of Italian bread in the bin to find the one with just the right crunch in its crust. Or how she seemed to know without prompting what ingredients he himself would choose if he were cooking for a date. A date. He shivered. This was very much not a date. However, that did not stop him from picking out a decent bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. He didn’t know if she liked wine, but it seemed like a good addition to their menu. 

She chose tomatoes like a pro, and after a few moments, he let her wander where she would. He found he enjoyed just watching her. She had made mention of the fact that she was an artist, and the more he observed her, the more he could see it in her mannerisms. The delicate trace of her fingers over the skins of the tomatoes, just hard enough to test for ripeness. He vaguely wondered what it would feel like to have those same slender, clever fingers tracing over his shoulders, down his back….her nails biting just a little…he shook himself. What in the hell, Spencer? Get a grip. It’s not like you haven’t seen a beautiful woman before. He nearly growled the warning out loud when he heard Embyr clear her throat. His head snapped up, his eyes meeting hers as a flush heated his cheeks. “Are you alright?” Her voice was laced with concern. He nodded. “Just mentally checking off the list.” The lie came easily, but tasted bitter on his tongue. He had no idea what had come over him. They were practically strangers. Though, if he was being honest, that hadn't stopped him before. Usually, if a woman caught his interest and was unattached, he had no problem letting his thoughts and hands…wander. But for reasons he couldn’t explain, he just couldn’t do that with Embyr. 

“I think this is everything, unless you were thinking dessert.” Her smile was guileless, that expression slicing through his calm like a boning knife. “I have some more pudding in the fridge.” He offered. Her nose scrunched. “No offense, but necessity does not always foster desire.” She said quietly. He nodded, chuckling. “That is true.” He had to agree. “Is there anything else you’d like then?” His question seemed to stump her because she glanced down, her lips tugging a little into a frown. “Em?” He asked, concern rippling through him. She glanced up at him, a shadow passing through her eyes. It was gone as quickly as it had come. “Strawberries.” She announced.

here are my notes for episodes 2 and 3.

episode 2:

one-eyed jack’s seems to be some sort of brothel? and benjamin said that there is a new girl there “freshly scented from the perfume counter”

this ties back to ronette pulaski bc she worked at the perfume counter at the horne’s department store. is there some kind of sex-work scheme happening here with the girls at the perfume counter and one-eyed jack’s?

it should make sense bc we already saw ronette in the skin world mag so maybe

that being said, this new girl is probably underage too considering ronette is too which is super fucking gross 

donna also comes from a religious family 

i will say that the girls at one-eyed jack’s are dressed super cunty

yeah dude this new girl looks barely twenty if that godddddd  

benjamin is most likely having relations with a girl his daughter’s age dude wtf

audrey asked donna if laura ever talked about her father and when asked why she said “he used to sing to her” WHAT THE FUCK????? 

now im wondering, if laura worked at the perfume counter and one-eyed jack’s bc that would connect ronette and her together and also to mr. horne 

maybe the reason audrey and her father aren’t close and she causes problems for him is because she knows about his relations with younger girls at one-eyed jacks???

coop is having a weird dream rn. first we see him but a little older in a red room and there’s a little man in a red vibrating/shaking profusely in the corner of what looks like the same room, and then there’s some flashes of sarah running around looking for laura, the creepy man crouching at the foot of the bed that sarah saw earlier, laura’s corpse, and now some guy’s voice is saying “through the darkness of future pasts, the magician longs to see. one chants between two worlds ‘fire, walk with me’” 

there’s “fire walk with me” again 

the guy speaking is the one armed man from earlier!!

the one armed man is talking about how “we lived among the people.” above a convenience store

i love the choice of having them talk in reverse as well as their blocking. it makes it so much more unsettling

laura looks at coop knowingly and touches the side of her nose, which is known as a sign of secrecy or conspiracy. i wonder what she’s referring to with that? 

something floats by the curtains in the background of the red room. i guess they’re covering windows of some sorts 

the little man tells coop that “the gum you like is going to come back in style.” then turns to laura and says “she’s my cousin. but doesn’t she look almost exactly like laura palmer?”

coop is the only one not talking in reverse

when he asked ‘not-laura’ if she was laura palmer, she replied with “i feel like i know her, but sometimes my arms bend back.” 

talking about her arms bending backwards, her face contorts in pain 

the man in the red suit says “she’s filled with secrets.” 

he then says “where we’re from, the birds sing a pretty song and there’s always music in the air.” and music starts playing and he starts to dance  (not in reverse this time)

his father is def the dominant head of the family. he has a strong presence and his wife seems to be more meek compared to him. very “good christian wife” core. thats not a dig at her, she seems sweet enough, but when general briggs slaps bobby for putting a cigarette in his mouth at dinner, she does nothing about it 

laura helped norma with the “meals on wheels program” that laura helped organize. she really does seem like such a golden child
