I think it's funny how England doesn't dub American movies/shows in their own english (?), like how both Mexico (for all hispanic countries on the continent) and Spain make their own dub versions even though we all supposedly speak spanish
Tbh, as an Argentinian all I get from watching Spain's dub is the ✨vibes✨ of what's going on
Like, native english-speaking people don't have this problem of not understanding each other?
I'm trying not to spoil anything, but in any case...
Mario bros. Movie thoughts under
......
Just watched Mario bros. Movie, (in Spanish btw) and WOW, it's AMAZING, I left the cinema feeling sort of like with the Sonic Movies but probably even more, because it's filled with both subtle and not so subtle references. In Spanish the voice cast was so on point, I expected nothing less from the dub.
The music is great, songs from all over Mario and some iconic normal songs that I don't want to spoil. The animation is perfect, the characters and locations 10/10, illumination really outdid itself. The story is pretty neat, super enjoyable and not at all "childish" at the lack of a better word.
Overall I really enjoyed the movie so much, it turned so much better than I thought.
Fandom definition of canon is getting so, so, so janky.
Canon is what happens IN THE WORK ITSELF. Word of God pronouncements and deleted scenes are debatable. But--
Luberto, my beloved, my emotional support ship, my joy of joys, my light in the darkness, still isn't canon.
It's explicitly listed as "unsanctioned fanart." That means NOT CANON. It would be a fun debate to discuss who gets to decide what is or is not canon on a movie with a huge creative team like this, but they're explicity calling it fanart.
Explicity calling it fanart multiple times. On either end of the posts. So you don't get confused. And yes, this is may just be because they're cowering in fear of Disney, but again, they're not attempting to speak for anyone but themself or that they did their part of the work on the film with this intention in mind (I'm sure they did tho lol).
Reposting their fanart, claiming it's Word of God Canon without any context, is a dishonest grab for clicks.
Sorry to be a spoil sport.
The real exciting news, IMHO is that Luca is coming to theaters. I love cute fanart but I wanna see my boys on the big screen and getting some of those movie theater residuals.
there are many things that left me utterly happy about gotg vol. 3, but one I haven't seen many people mention is that Peter refers to Mantis as his sister at least twice in the movie. Like obviously they are all a big found family and they call each other as such. But there's something about the aknowledgement of Mantis put in the same regard as Peter's grandpa on earth. Something about the fact that he considers her as well as a blood relative because they are both the children of Ego, and Ego raised Mantis to be a tool in the same manner he would've done so with Peter if he had the chance, and they were both taken advantage of by him. And despite all that they both went through because of Ego, they at least managed to find each other.
Whenever I see encima mío or detrás mío instead of encima de mí or detrás de mí my immediate reaction is "that's cheating!"
[In some countries/regions, some people will use possessives like mío/a "mine", tuyo/a "yours", suyo/a "theirs" etc... instead of de mí, de ti, and so on. While it's considered more appropriate to say encima de mí "on top of me", detrás de mí "behind me", or things like that with prepositions of location, sometimes someone will say encima mío / detrás mío instead]
Some unfortunate news about the dubbed versions of My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale,
It appears that a majority of the dub voice actors were replaced seemingly without contact beforehand.
After yesterday's episode, "Icy Prints", released, many fans who watched the episode dubbed noticed a change in voices and even in quality.
The English voice actors remain the same, but it is unknown who the new voice actors are for the dubs, as they are uncredited on YouTube.
We may not know who the new voices are until Netflix releases this episode, as Netflix does show dubbing credits.
Some fans have speculated AI was used to generate the voices, but there is no evidence to support the rumor.
Production for the MLP dubs have been consistent since the early years of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, so the change comes as a sudden surprise. Iyuno-SDI Group Mexico is one example of a dubbing studio that had continuously worked on MLP throughout FiM and G5, up until now. In addition, the dub director for the past Latin American Spanish dub, Maggie Vera, had also worked on MLP since FiM, previously voice acting for Fluttershy and Scootaloo.
Unfortunately, the now previous dub voice actors and directors were not contacted by Hasbro about the change beforehand, leaving a few confused. Notable actors who spoke about the situation were some of the Latin American Spanish voice actors, as they took to social media to express their sadness.
The images below are some of their statements with translations.
people give english dub voice actors a hard time and truth be told sometimes they're not on point but I think we need to blame the translators more often. like you can't read these lines and sound cool when the translator did not do a good job of that.
I was recalling some things that Miguel's spanish dub VA said during an interview and he mentioned that he had to record a lot of lines that didn't make in to the movie, that some variants of those lines were spicier than the ones we know from the movie... he even mentioned that some of them were just too much for him, it makes me wonder what Miguel could have said
Every year for my birthday, I draw something about stuff that are meaningful to me (usually from my childhood), this year is one of my all time fav cartoons and an episode I consider very touching c:
