“You agree with me, right?”
The question directed at you snapped you out of your thoughts. Chase was staring at you and you had unfortunately no clue what he was arguing with House over.
“I’m not sure I completely follow.” You replied.
“The patient has all the signs of lupus.” Chase said, quickly running down the list.
“It’s not lupus. It’s never lupus!” House exclaimed.
You studied the differential on the board. While House was sure it was never lupus, you had to agree with Chase that the symptoms lined up.
“It’s always possible that it’s something else, but I do agree with Chase. It is hitting all the classic marks. Do you have a different suggestion?”
“Run the damn tests. You’ll see I’m right and then we can move on from this bad idea and get to a real answer.” House threw his hands in the air and limped away to his office.
“[Y/N], why don’t you and Cameron go run the tests. Chase and I can try to find whatever it is that House thinks we should be finding.” Foreman suggested.
You and Cameron nodded and headed out of the space. As you walked the halls she made some small talk.
“So what were you thinking about when Chase asked for your input?” She asked.
“What do you mean?” You asked, trying to play it off.
“Oh come on, we both know you weren’t listening to what he said.”
“I was just, um, running through the differential in my,” you got distracted as the two of you passed Dr. Wilson in the hall. He smiled and gave you a quick wave as he walked toward his office. You smiled and waved back, knowing your cheeks were heating up in spite of yourself.
“I think I have a better idea what was running through your head.” Cameron said with a laugh.
“What? You think...? Don’t be ridiculous.” You blustered trying to defend yourself but you knew it wasn’t doing any good.
“You’ve got a thing for Wilson.”
“I, uh, may have something of a crush.” You admitted.
“So when are you going to tell him?” She asked, enjoying the new development, not that she hadn’t had her suspicions before. You always got shy when the oncologist was around and picked his suggestions over House’s even though you worked for House.
“Oh you know I was thinking, never.”
“No, [Y/N], you have to tell him.”
“No I definitely do not. He’s the head of oncology and I’m still an intern. And I don’t even know if he likes guys.”
“Well you’ll never know if you don’t ask.”
“Yes and that way he’ll never know either. And I don’t have to worry about dying of embarrassment. I’m perfectly happy waving in the halls and talking at lunch sometimes.”
Cameron shook her head but by that point you were arriving at the patient’s room. You both knew she wasn’t going to just drop it though.
A few days later, you went to lunch alone and sat down to eat a quick meal before getting back to your latest case. Your plan was interrupted when none other than James Wilson approached your table.
“Mind if I join you?” He asked, gesturing to the empty seat across from you.
“Not at all.” You said immediately.
“How are you doing?” He asked as he sat down.
“Good. Taking my breaks where I can get them. House doesn’t always, how do I put this, remember that humans need to eat.”
Wilson laughed. He knew that all too well about House.
“I’m just glad he’s at least remembering you guys are humans.”
“Well, he sometimes remembers that.” You replied. “House is a genius and it’s obviously a huge privilege to work for him but, I don’t want to talk bad about your friend.” You realized in the middle of your sentence maybe you shouldn’t be saying this to him.
“House is an ass, believe me I know. And whatever you’re going to say I’m sure  I’ve heard worse said about him.”
“I wish he was a little nicer. I know we’re still learning but would a genuine compliment kill him?”
“I think it might.” Wilson said with a smile. “But in all seriousness, I can talk to him if you want. He shouldn’t be so cruel. You don’t deserve that.”
“We both know it won’t change anything.” You said with a shrug. You were flattered that he offered though. But, considering he was friends with House you figured he would do that for anyone House was bothering.
“Maybe not, but I’d hate to see you get down because House can’t be bothered to respect you.”
“I guess you probably see enough sad people every day, huh?” You replied, once again trying to deflect the thoughts that he was talking about you specifically.
“Sure, but it always makes my day a little better when you wave at me in the hall.”
You felt your face heat up. You tried to tell yourself it was just a friendly compliment. But no matter how many times your brain said it, your heart was still jumping.
“I, thank you.” You replied, not certain how to respond. “I like it when you smile, it’s good to see a kind face around.”
Wilson’s face was now getting a pink tint to it. He was about to say something more when his pager beeped.
“I’m sorry, I’ve got to-”
“Of course, go.” You interrupted.
He got up and moved to leave before turning back around to you.
“Do you want to grab dinner later? I’d like to talk without these interruptions for once.”
“I’d love to.” You were positively beaming.
“It’s a date.” He said without thinking. He met your eyes quickly. You had a shy smile on your face and looked down from him. “Sorry I shouldn’t have-”
“It’s okay. It’s a date.” You cut him off with a smile.
He smiled back, that cute gentle smile of his.
“I’ll see you this evening then. For our date.” He nodded, and turned to leave again. You both did little celebrations once the other couldn’t see.
You’d never wanted a shift to end so fast in your life. House seemed intent on making every minute feel like an hour. But eventually the end came and you had to fight not to sprint to Wilson’s office.
The door was open but you knocked lightly anyway when you saw him hunched over papers. He looked up and then looked at his watch.
“I’m sorry,” you began, “if you’re too busy we don’t have to-”
“Nope, I’m glad you came. Otherwise I might have just dived into the endless pile of paperwork and never come back.” He stood up, grabbed his coat off the back of his chair and walked toward you. “How do you feel about Italian?”
“I’m a big fan of Italian.”
“Good, I know a place.”
You walked out of the hospital together and he led the way down the street.
“Did you actually mean for this to be a date? Or was that just a turn of phrase?” You ended up asking partway down the street after a few seconds of silence. You were nervous. In the moment it had felt cute but now you were doubting again.
Wilson paused before answering.
“If you want it to be a date, it’s a date. I meant it when I said it but then I was worried it was too forward.”
“Okay good.” You said.
“Good.”
“Yeah good. I do want it to be a date then.”
“Good.”
He smiled and reached over, taking your hand. He looked over at you and you smiled before looking away. Cameron would never let you hear the end of this. But you were on a date with James Wilson so you couldn’t really be mad about it.

Was planning on just being general surgeon, but watched House and liked Wilson, so he decided to follow a old dream of his
Became a resident at the ripe age of 23, VERY young, yes.
Spent a few years on residence until he finally got to follow on oncology
His first case was a old man with stage four lung cancer.
He passed away from a aneurysm, Zack was understandably devastated by it, but didn't let that get him down.
Later in his career, he got his youngest case, a new born
It progressed very quickly and the baby couldn't make it, unfortunately
He had to take a while off after it, a weekend with friends and family helped him lots
He goes to every single one of his patient's funeral and makes sure to cover all burial expenses for the family.
Latest in his life, he was casually chatting with a friend who had a really bad stomach ache (you can guess who it is) and he told him to get it checked just in case
A few days later, his newest case arrived. Stage four gastric cancer, patient name: Cloud Strife.

Trump's pal Vladimir Putin is back to bombing children's hospitals in Ukraine. Putin can't understand why Ukrainians won't let him take over their country. So he's killing as many of their children as possible as retribution.
Russian missile strike partially destroyed a children’s hospital in Kyiv on Monday, causing terrified patients and their families to flee for their lives, as officials fear more people could be trapped beneath the rubble. Moscow launched a brazen daytime aerial assault on targets in cities across Ukraine during morning rush hour, killing at least 36 people and injuring 137 others, according to Ukraine’s emergency service. The large scale bombardment struck areas in the capital, as well as in Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Slovyansk and Kramatorsk. In an update on Telegram, the emergency service said the latest figure included the number of dead and injured in the capital, which now stands at 22 people killed. Two people were killed and at least 16 were injured in the strike on Kyiv’s Okhmatdyt hospital. The facility is Ukraine’s largest children’s medical center and has been vital in the care of some of the sickest children from across the country. Every year, around 7,000 surgeries – including treatments for cancer and hematological diseases – are conducted at the hospital, according to Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets. Videos from the scene showed volunteers working with police and security services to sift through the rubble as smoke billowed from the hospital, as staff described how they tried to rush children to safety in the wake of the attack. Ukraine’s health minister Viktor Liashko said intensive care units, oncology departments and surgery units had been damaged.

She smiled at him, the kind of smile that he would see in the parents of his patients. How absurd. He clenched his fist to his side and forced his own onto his lips as he tried to reign in his composure. Mingun stood there and looked at his mother for the first time in twenty-seven years. ‘Song Ji Young, my mother. Beautiful, powerful but so damn cruel.’ Mingun thought bitterly. He would just offer her a smile, a polite nod and clipped answers whenever he was addressed. Yet he could still feel her eyes on him, it was intense and stifling. 
There was a bit of commotion inside the doctor’s lounge when Mingun clocked in for his shift that morning. Everyone was busy talking with each other, a discussion that was important that garnered the attention of the majority of the morning shift. While the morning shift turnover was usually noisy, it wasn’t like this. This wasn’t the typical morning that he had been accustomed to since he began in fellowship in this hospital. It struck him as weird, and being naturally curious he wanted to at least have some context on the latest happenings. 
Fortunately, he spotted a familiar intern and quickly called him over. “Hey Jinho-ah! What’s going on? Why is everyone so… so animated? It’s not even 9 in the morning.” He asked the intern. The intern only shrugged apologetically. “I’m not sure myself but from what I heard, someone from a conglomerate visited the director. Obviously, the flock will be interested.” 
“I heard it’s Chairwoman Song. Song Ji Young of Songsan. Not sure, but I think it’s her.”  
Mingun froze. Songsan. Song Ji Young. The very name that his late matron had uttered in her deathbed. His biological mother. 
He quickly excused himself from the rest of the floor and locked himself in his office. He felt chilled–down to his bones. The cold dread came crashing down and slowly swallowing him. 
That person is here. Why? 
Mingun thought that he had buried the knowledge of his birth mother in the deepest of his mind. He didn’t find the importance of it now. He had long lost interest in the idea of a family–of her. But the resentment, the anger , the loneliness and the pain that he had to go through remained under his skin, shimmering steadily and never really cooled. 
A knock from his door forced him to push his thoughts back. “Dr Lee? The medical director wants to see you.” He looked up, his eyes wide. Why? Why would the medical director want to see him? A newly minted oncology fellow? Surely it was not because of her? But at the back of his mind, and as much as he wanted to deny that thought of it – he had very strong inkling that it was because of that. She couldn’t possibly know… right? Mingun sighed as he resigned himself to a meeting that he didn't want. A meeting that he could live without having. 
“Color me surprised when the director asked for you. I mean I’m sure it’s nothing big, you’re just a newbie…” He ignored his senior’s ramblings clearly the hospital had done the older wrong for calling for a green eared fellow over him. How pathetic and despicable, Mingun couldn’t care less about his senior’s pride. He couldn’t care less about anything at all. 
He squared his shoulders as he entered the room. The chilled air conditioned air bit in his skin as he walked in. He kept his eyes downcasted and proceeded to bow deep in greeting.  “You called for me sir? Lee Mingun from the Oncology department.” He didn’t dare look anywhere but to his boss but he could feel the burning eyes of that person. There was no doubt about it. It really was Song Ji Young. He peeked at her and bowed as well. She smiled at him, the kind of smile that he would see in the parents of his patients. How absurd. “Lee Mingun. What a clever name. Who gave it to you?” He turned to the woman, there was something about the way she said his name… “My old matron did.  I grew up in an orphanage you see…” There was a bit of satisfaction in seeing the slight flinch that she did after his response. All the more reason to believe that she knew who he was.  “How… How old are you now if you don’t mind me asking.” she pressed on. 
“Twenty-seven ma’am.” Her eyes turned teary this time. “I see…” The satisfaction was absent, instead he felt curious at her reaction. By then there were only the two of them left in the room, his boss had left them to talk. This wasn’t the way Mingun imagined he would meet his mother for the first time. While his emotions are still going haywire, the anger has settled into a cold and unfeeling indifference. It was the first tear that really put him into the edge, she was crying now and her hand was shaky against her lap. 
There was a tense silence between the two, for Mingun, being in her presence was painful and he wanted out. “If you have nothing more to say then I’ll head on–” He cleared his throat and moved to stand up only to be stopped by the other. 
“No. Please, stay for a bit. I… I have something to say.”  Ji Young met his own orbs and squared her shoulders.
“Yi Jung. Song Yi Jung, that’s the name of my son.”
Song Yi Jung. It rolled beautifully in his tongue yet it left a bitter taste. Yi Jung. The name that was supposed to be his – not the nameless orphan that he had been. 
“I had him when I was still in college. I was young and immature and his father was a force of nature; and just like that I have him growing inside of me.” At this point, Ji Young was shaky, tears dripped freely from her eyes yet she couldn’t bring herself to look at him. Mingun wanted to hear this. His childish dream of knowing the reason why he was abandoned was unraveling right there and then.  “I don’t understand why…” Mingun whispered. “Why tell me this?” 
Suddenly, Ji Young reached for his hand and held it tightly with hers. “Yi Jung-ah.” Mingun froze. He wanted to pull away but suddenly he couldn’t.
“It’s you. You’re Song Yi Jung. My son.” She reached for him and pressed her hand on the side of his face. Mingun remained frozen, the cold indifference that he held quickly melting. He glared at her. 
Something must have clicked in her mind that made her pull away. With a shaky breath she asked. “You knew?” Mingun only nodded. He stood up finally and turned away from her as the pain of the years of loneliness came truly crashing down. “Of course I knew.”
“How? I… How?” Ji Young stammered. “My old matron, she told me.” There were so many things that he wanted to say, but he remained mum. “I have known about it for a while now.” Mingun then faced his mother. “You left something when you abandoned me. That was your mistake. You should have made sure that you didn’t leave anything behind on something that you were going to leave behind.” 
Ji Young shook her head with her eyes screwed shut in pain. Mingun’s words surely had stung but what he had said were words that he had wanted to say. And still he wasn’t finished. 
“You don’t have to worry though. I’ll keep this secret until the end. I didn’t need a mother all my life and you standing here for whatever reason will not change that fact.” 
“Yi Jung-ah… Mingun-ah… I’m sorry… I did’t mean to–!” 
“Didn’t mean what? Get willingly pregnant and then leave your infant outside of an orphanage in the middle of winter? Didn’t mean to abandon your child? It was your choice.” Mingun’s voice was low. He kept his gaze on the older woman, who obviously was trying her hardest to keep herself together. It was painful to watch and Mingun had enough. He knew that this conversation was far from over but for now this is enough. 
“If you’re here to make sure that I won’t tell anyone about my identity. Like I said, you don’t have to worry. My name is Lee Min Gun. And it will always be Lee Min Gun.”
