ZackSeph Nibelheim au wherein Zack and Seph are sharing a room at the inn. Zack’s brow is furrowed in distressed, tossing and turning as he lays gripped in the haunting talons of a nightmare. A prophetic nightmare where he sees Seph turning against him—turning against everyone—laughing like a maniac with an unrecognizable blaze in his eyes, with a blood-bathed Masamune in his hand as he viciously attacks him without mercy. Sephiroth asks what’s wrong—why his friend was calling his name. Zack is hesitant to respond, swallowing. But he eventually gives in as Sephiroth remains by his side, patient and assuring, a comforting presence that soothes his soul like balm. He explains his nightmare, spilling his terror. His emotions. Throat nearly closing as he struggles to finish the conclusion—the bloody gleam of Masamune, the way Seph had speared her through his—

As Zack’s voice trails off, shaking, Sephiroth face softens into an empathetic ache. He reaches out to brush the tears from Zack’s eyes, catching them with tender fingers. It’s just a nightmare… he assures kindly. It’s all alright now. But Zack isn’t fully assuaged; something about it all was too real, too vivid. Already stabbed with the pain of betrayal, having to fight a friend to the death… it’s just too much to think about his last remaining rock turning against him. Seeing his distress, Sephiroth gathers the boy into a warm embrace, holding him close, sinking onto the edge of the bed as Zack burrows into his chest. Listening to his heartbeat, wrapping his arms around him in turn. Clinging.

Shhh…. It’s alright. I’m here. You’re safe.

I thought… I thought I lost you. You didn’t even recognize me.

Sephiroth only holds him tighter.

They stay like that for a long, nebulous stretch of time, until Zack’s breathing begins to steady, until his eyes begin to close. As sleep begins to claim the boy again, Sephiroth carefully tucks him back under the covers, ensuring his comfort and warmth. Pulling the sheets up to his shoulders and slowly pulling away.

As he turns around, ready to return to bed, Zack’s eyes creak open.

Seph... would you... stay with me?

There’s a beat, a moment of stillness. But one that is quickly broken. Understanding the depth of his friend’s turmoil, Sephiroth returns nothing but a slow, kind nod, sliding into the bed beside his friend and wrapping his arms protectively around him. Zack nestles deep into the embrace, finding solace in the familiar warmth and sanctuary.

It’s my job to protect you, Zack… You know that. I won’t let anything harm you.

Zack nestles closer, sinking deeper into his best friend’s arms as a dreamless slumber begins to wash over him… safe and sound with a steady heartbeat pressed against his own.

…I don’t know what I’d do without you.

Sephiroth holds him tighter, protecting his treasure.

And you will never have to find out. I promise.

Does he find out? Does Sephiroth go insane, or does Zack remind him of the promise he made as Jenova attempts to claim him? Does their love break her control? Does Sephiroth choose his best friend over his book, keeps his vows over learning the twisted truth?

Skaian Fractal Technology

I stumbled across this forum thread on the Blockland construction game forums (huh, construction games, wonder what relevance that could have) where people are discussing Homestuck. Weirdly this thread goes into the future - only the first 5 pages are currently 'spoiler free' and the above posts were at the top of page 6.

It's cool to see people doing some analysis over there and I was curious if Ladios was right (Regulith's references are to pages 157 and 780 in the Unofficial Homestuck Collection; you can also find the appearifier on page 736).

So I recreated the symbols; appearifier on the left and transportalizer on the right.

These are made up of the same base shapes (1 small and 1 large triangle in the center, and 3x2 triangles around the outside) positioned at different angles. Although Ladios' theory is cool, both of these are broadly 3-segment shapes, while the alchemiter (below) is 4 segments.

I played with them for a bit but can't see a way to map the two above shapes to make the below one (though please correct me if I'm wrong). But the alchemiter having a fourth dimension says to me that it has additional properties that the other devices don't have.

The appearifier can summon an item from another place and time, the transportalizer links with a copy of itself to send something back and forth, and presumably there's a deappearifier (theorized on p.746) that can send an item to another place and time. But all of these leave the objects intact and don't change their fundamental nature. The alchemiter's 'fourth dimension' seems to be this - it actually creates and destroys and changes, instead of just summoning and sending and moving. I wonder if there are any other machines, devices and contraptions to discover with additional complex abilities.

Sorry it’s been a little while longer than usual

I haven’t had a lot of time to work on The Darkman Problem (it IS still coming) but I feel a little bad that it’s taking so long when it’s ultimately like 3 panels that I just haven’t had much time to work on. I’ve got time right now, so it should be coming really soon, but, uh… yeah.

Anyway, have some lore in the meanwhile!

Rock has a room at Light Labs. He doesn’t stay often or for very long, but it means something to Rock that they have it at all. 

Roll knows how to roller-skate. Kalinka has been trying to teach her how to ice skate any time one of them visits the other. (They’re also ((kinda)) pen-pals for most of the year! And by that I mean they send frequent emails to one another.)

Tango has done that thing that cats do where they lay across your computer keys. To literally everyone at Light Labs. On many occasions. 

Bass is barred entry from every arcade and bowling alley in the city , following The Incident™️. He’s actually pretty proud, seeing this as an accomplishment.

Tempo lets Rhythm do her hair sometimes while she reads off memes or Reddit stories she thinks Rhythm would find funny.

Time Keeps Slipping still happens in this universe. Here, Blues was sent back to the lab after realizing he was running at like 12% battery (since he got that "weird/sometimes-painful sensation" in his left arm, and he usually gets that more often when he’s at a lower charge). That’s when he was stopped and taken by Oil Man, though, meaning Blues was exhausted and honestly not feeling too great for that arc.

Piano has a theory that Wily might have gotten her and Bass's IC chips mixed up while making them, but has too big of an ego to admit this mistake. She has one of those cork boards with pictures and red string all over about it. (Bass doesn’t really care.)

Beat can be carried like a basketball under one arm. This is usually when he’s in recharge mode (in which he can slide his wings inside of his body, thus letting him be carried like that more easily).

Power-saving mode will gradually disable non-essential functions in a Robot Master the closer they are to 0%, such as the ability to speak or eye-screens lighting up. They might move a bit slower than if they were functioning at 100% charge, and behave as though tired. Power-saving mode activates automatically in Robot Masters that find themselves at 20% charge or below.

Dr. Light and Dr. Wily both have “worlds best dad” mugs. The difference is, Light’s mug was a Father’s Day gift, and Wily bought the mug for himself.

the last thing i want happening if i come out as aplatonic (which takes immensely more than coming out as aro or ace) is to be erased to my face with something about friendship being very important and that i should really get out there and try it out and stop isolating myself or whatever. I am introverted, i get drained by social interactions a lot, even when I'm having a good time, i get quiet in between, for those reasons i do isolate myself. I am not good with approaching people and starting conversations or keeping them going most of the times as i usually have limited reactions and just humm most of the times. so i have to work my mind a mile an hour to make some comment or query to not seem too indifferent. overall I'm just very indifferent to friendship. significantly disinterested as compared to non-apl people. maybe it's cause i have not met very many people i truly connect with but maybe it's just the way i am. i usually have a lot to talk about topics and can go about it to other people if I'm feeling like it or if I'm 100% sure they're interested. But that doesn't happen all the time. rather, it happens quite rarely. eitherways it's hard for me to feel as intrigued/drawn in by other people. which i believe is a major factor of platonic attraction. there are several intersections between my introverted, reserved, private nature and my aplatonicity. both make it hard for me to function around people as friendship and enthusiasm for it comes as a natural expectation in the society. But I'm just a little too happy by myself most of the time, and that doesn't make a lot of sense to people. 2/10 times, when i want to do something out of it, my shell makes it hard for me to. As a result, there is a specific brand of isolation and loneliness i experience. Doesn't make me less aplatonic.

In any case I don't want to be erased to my face with some lame excuse about why you just cannot fully comprehend how someone could be this way when i come out to you.

I've heard from various sources that waking up after only 3 hours of sleep in the middle of the night (even when you're fucking tired) and having a hard time falling back asleep has something to do with the stress hormones being way too damn high

but how do I reduce the amount of stress hormones in my body when even my mundane everyday life has had me in a constant state of stress for the past 27 years of my life? 🤔

Okay, Mel rambling no. uhhhh 4? AIGHT, time for some of his hair facts. Mel's hair is dyed, his natural hair color is dark brown and he dyes it pink at least every month. Not doing it himself though, he goes to the salon for that. Although he did do it himself back when his hair wasn't so long.

He chose pink, cuz pink is his favourite colour. He frequents one salon and practically becomes a regular patron in it that everyone knows him. At first they thought that Mel is a type of customer that prefers peace and quiet, but one employee talked to Mel and they ended up finding out that Mel can be quite chatty so now they chat with him a lot.

Also he walks his cats everyday, 3 different cats each day. He puts his hair up in a ponytail using a ribbon whenever he does cuz that time of day is still too early for the neighborhood kids to be up and about yet. Basically he wakes up every morning at 5, tend to his hair a bit, walks the cats, feed em, and back to do the full hair routine. And he lets the cats out to the front yard afterwards where the neighborhood kids are up and about to come visit.

At first the kids weren't sure how to approach Mel cuz he rarely smiles (he loves to smile when with other people he trusts though). The kids thought he was unfriendly so they kept their distance for awhile, until they saw the cats in the front yard and one of em mustered up the courage to ask if they can play with em.

Frequent visits led em to becoming close to Mel and learning that hey, he actually isn't so bad after all. He lets the kids inside the house and also gives em snacks. He's literally living the life of an old cat lady that's like a grandma to the kids in the neighborhood.

In fact, Mel isn't that good with kids, he doesn't know how to actually handle em so he just watches over em and plays along with whatever they want as long as it aint dangerous (one time they wanted to reenact rapunzel with him where Mel goes to the balcony and lets down his hair for em to climb. He wanted to try that so bad but too dangerous for the kids). A great listener too!
