🖤💙 4 days until my Surgery 💙🖤

I'm very very excited for my surgery (it's my second gender affirming surgery but this one is more significant to me since it'll be top and bottom surgery) and I'm obviously counting the days until it and I thought some people might be interested in my trans journey 🏳️‍⚧️ So see part 7 below the cut.

As the summer was ending, I got really lucky! A lesbian hairstylist (who helped organize the drag show I went in the last update) gave my name to this sales lady who sold accounting work to like companies and she needed help with researching CEO and CFO types. And she paid me out of pocket and honestly it was pretty easy internet research using Google. I felt like a little rat scurrying across the Internet 🐀 So, thank you lesbians 🙏🙏

Apparently I really impressed her so she got me hired full time as a sales admin for her company (I wouldn't have gotten with my lack of a college degree without her) and I've had that job since! And a lot of my transition wouldn't be possible without the pay and benefits of this job. Also this is my first job where I get gendered correctly and I'm slowly getting less anxious about going to the bathroom at work 🥰

She honestly mom'd up on me and bought me a bunch of new business casual clothes for the job. And here's an example of one of my new work outfits 😁

Bc of the new job I was able to afford a lot more things for transitioning! Like voice training. I remember when I first cracked I tried to just teach myself using videos but I wasn't good at it 😅 Also a friend during the summer of 2022 helped me and I did make some progress with her help. But, I started making a lot more progress once I started seeing a speech therapist. But, there was a barrier since I could tell she hadn't worked too much with trans people. I went to a speech therapist bc it was covered by my insurance but she moved and then I couldn't find anyone for insurance covered speech therapy. So, I eventually just paid for lessons Your Lessons Now. And, honestly it's going a lot better! It's really nice to be able to talk about my frustrations with voice training with another transfem. The biggest thing I'm learning from here is how to break the bad habit of pitching up my voice by squeezing my vocal chords.

I had also switched to injections and I highly recommend it! A friend even made my first two vials into earrings 🔥

I also got a lot lazier with makeup 😅 I do eyeliner wings, mascara, and blush for when I go into the office. Which for a bunch of accountants means I do about as much makeup that is normal for the women in the office 🤷‍♀️

These were two notable exceptions. I really love the makeup I did for the Halloween of 2022 bc I decided to go as a ghost-type trainer. And the one on the right is when I learned how to use concealer to cover my 'raccoon eyes' as my dad liked to call them 🦝

Also this would be a good time to mention something I probably should've mentioned earlier 😅 I never learned how to use foundation. I know it's easy but I have a weird mental block around it 🤷‍♀️ But, in the summer of 2021 I started doing twice daily skincare routine for my face. Which took me from a very acne heavy face to people being surprised I'm not wearing foundation. Also the routine is really nice. Would recommend to those who want to get rid of their acne (send an ask if you want to know specifics).

Romance update since I've been doing that lol: Well, things ended with all the girlfriends I had so I am down to 1 partner. And I got caught in a romance scam for a few months 😭 However, I can't really complain because I got engaged!!! It was so sweet in cute. My partner and I had this date the night before Valentine's Day under a statue outside of a local art museum. We read sapphic poetry by candle light and then they popped the question 🥰🥰

But, I say another big part of this era was I made a lot more local trans friends. Went to a good amount of house parties which would've surprised pre-transition me! And I really love my community of queer people I've been building 🥺🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️💕

Oh yeah!! I also started laser hair removal at the beginning of 2021 as well. Which was before this era but time is a lie. But the new job definitely made it easier to afford.

The biggest step for my transition was getting my surgeries set up!! And my FFS (facial feminization surgery) marks the end of this era. Below was the last picture I took before my FFS.

Tarot Decks I Own (as of June 2024)

I got most of these (after the RWS) when I last quit smoking a couple years ago (think I made it five years) as a deal with myself - I could spend my cigarette budget on indie tarot decks. I started up again but it was a good incentive at the time.

I have also traded and given decks away so there are more that I’ve had and lost, but this is my current collection of 27 tarot decks (I’ll make a separate post for oracle and misc decks). I also tried to get these in a way that corresponded to the majors order to help limit my spending but it got pretty neurotic with swapping out deck positions and stuff so I’ve stopped worrying about that as much. It kinda helps me remember my collection though.

Alright guys....today is a HUGE day for me and I can't even begin to express my emotions but I'm going to try like hell.

I started writing fanfiction again, after giving it up about a decade ago, on Sept 5, 2022, and it all started with Kylo Ren.

I was updating a chapter a day, Yes, Master was the only fic I was working on. My fingers just didn't stop moving, and I was in LOVE with what I was doing. Then when it came time to end it, I wasn't ready, so I made the sequel, By Your Side. While By Your Side isn't my favorite work I've created, I am glad I wrote it, and I think it wrapped up the series nicely.

In the meantime, and after rewatching the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy a minimum of 20 times, a certain pilot caught my attention, and thus began my spiral into Oscar Isaac brain rot. While Yes, Master is comprised of Episode 8&9, One Hell of a Pilot takes place during Episode 7 and follows a different Reader than the one in YM and BYS.

It was so much fun to connect these worlds and explore my everchanging interests in different fictional characters over the course of the last 6 months. I learned a LOT through the process and I just want to pat myself on the back for COMPLETING something (if only I could turn it into cash, right? Ha). After 266,817 words! What the effff! 🥵

DSMP Fusion AU

2nd part of my Fusion Au concept. Link to the first:

1. Bappy - BadBoyHalo x Skeppy (sept)

Bappy is the first fusion after the discovery of the crystals between Skeppy and BBH. When Sapnap visits, BBH shows him the crystals and tells him about the experience. Interested, Sapnap borrows the crystal from Bad.

2. Buret - Eret x Wilbur Soot (sept 22)

On the day of the L’manburg Election, Wilbur is saved from his untimely death by Eret and fused together in the process, creating “Buret”. With their combined strength, Buret easily evades their pursuers. When they unfuse, Eret and Wilbur exchange some words, and (while their relationship is not completely fixed) they part on amicable terms.

3. Feret - Eret x Fundy ()

The days following the election had everyone recuperating. Fundy approached Eret, knowing he had a crystal, and told him he wanted to know more about it. They accidentally form the fusion “Feret”, which was odd experience to say the least. Eret decided to gift the crystal to Niki as he no longer wanted it.

4. Santa - Sapnap x Antfrost (oct 5)

In the battle of the burning eiffel tower, Niki was held hostage by BBH, Skeppy, Sapnap, Punz, and Antfrost. Tommy attempted to rescue her, and recruited Dream and Technoblade to help him. Eventually she escaped, but stayed near the battle. The fight took a turn for the worse when Sapnap and AntFrost fused into “Santa” and began to overpower them.

5. Tekni - Niki Nihachu x Technoblade (oct 5)

The battle triggered Techno’s blood frenzy, cutting down everything in his path. Niki reflexively shielded herself with her arms, a crystal in hand. Surprisingly, they fused into “Tekni”, and they began to change the tide of the battle. The rescue party left their pursuers licking their wounds, and successfully escaped. Techno left the encounter with a newfound respect for Nihachu, and Niki no longer feared the infamous war god that was Technoblade.

(Oct. 20 - After the Dreamon exorcism, Fundy took the opportunity to ask Dream about the fusion crystals. However, Dream was avoidant in answering any of his questions and left quickly.)

6. Bam - BBH x Sam (nov 5)

BadBoyHalo and Awesamdude become the fusion “Bam” in order to win the battle in the Second Pet War.

7. Dratt - Jschlatt x Dream (nov 16)

Schlatt hires Dream to protect him during the rebellion in exchange for the revival book. Dreams accepts, but Schlatt says that his basic protection isn’t enough. He waves a crystal at Dream’s face, which he got from Ponk during the trade agreement with Lemon City.

Dream refuses at first, but reluctantly accepts at Schlatt’s insistence. On the day of the Rebellion, the pogtopia resistance is met by “Dratt”. The battle is long and fierce with no signs of ending, when suddenly Dratt defuses on their own. Dream stood to the side while Schlatt monologues and dies from a heart attack.

8. Piffi - Niki x Captain Puffy (nov 28)

Niki and Captain Puffy end up fusing on their date into “Piffi”. They spend the rest of their date as Piffi.

9. Snarl - Sapnap x Karl Jacobs (dec 6)

In the Mexican L’manburg vs. Dream SMP conflict, Karl had agreed to sacrifice his life for the cause according to Quackity’s plan. Sapnap secretly disagreed with this, and saved Karl right before his death. They formed the fusion “Snarl”.

10. Team - Dream x Techno (dec 16)

Technoblade was dragged back to L’Manburg for his execution. Dream rescued him, and proposed the easiest way to escape by holding up a crystal. Techno agreed, and the terrifying fusion “Team” was born. Team easily overpowered everyone and made their quick getaway. Dream let Techno keep the crystal.

11. Puffet - Puffy x Eret (jan 6)

Team made a terrifying return on Doomsday. The defenders of L’Manburg and their allies struggled. Niki refused to help, but she lent her crystal to Eret and Puffy because she still trusts them. They become “Puffet” who was a great help in taking down the withers. Quackity approaches Sapnap and suggests they fuse. Sapnap pulls out his crystal, but an tnt drops on them and sends them flying. The crystal was lost.

12. Totum - Tommyinnit x Tubbo (jan 20)

The Final Waltz. Punz gave his crystal, that he got from a trade with Skeppy, to Tubbo and Tommy. They became “Totum” and overpower Dream. Tubbo keeps the crystal.

13. Purfool - Purpled x Foolish Gamers (april 25)

During the Red Banquet, the eggpire members had set up to sacrifice their guests, starting with Foolish. When Quackity breaks in with Techno and Purpled. Purpled immediately moves in and rescues Foolish. They fuse, revealing the crystal Purpled had found, and become “Purfool”. Quackity suggests to Techno that they should fuse too. Techno refuses, and they save the rest of the guests.

14. Quackie/Charity? - Quackity x Charlie ()

Ever since seeing Buret, Quackity wanted to fuse. He wanted to experience it. The people he asked told him how it felt. ‘The exhilarating combined power. The confidence that came with never being alone, knowing that someone will always catch you’. Quackity had been denied time and time again. By Schlatt looking down on him. By Sapnap losing the crystal. And then Technoblade. But now, Quackity had his own crystal that he got from Sam in their Las Nevadas alliance agreement. And new guy he under his wing, Charlie Slimecicle. What should he call their fusion? Charity? Or Quackie?

Update: Launch attempt abandoned for today (18 Dec) due to a ground system issue

Blue Origin's New Glenn sub-orbital crew capable rocket will return to flight today after the last launch ended in the booster crashing, on 22 Sept 2022, fortunately it was an uncrewed experimental payloads mission. The failure was caused by the structural failure of the nozzle of the BE-3PM engine, also built by Blue Origin, resulting in an over temperature. The capsules launch escape solid rocket motor fired and it parachuted back to a safe landing (with the experiments intact). A crew would of survived but would of experienced some high G. The booster shut down its engine after the capsule separated and crashed. The booster in question was NS3 which had been used exclusively for uncrewed flight. This flight will probably use NS4, which has previously flown eight times (i think), a new booster, NS5, is under conduction. The engines have been improved and modified, notably modifications to the combustion chamber, to prevent a recurrence of a similar engine failure. This flight will also be uncrewed using the surviving NS4 booster, don't know which capsule will be used.

Launch is currently scheduled fo 15:30GMT from LC1 Corn Ranch, Van Horn, Culberson County, West Texas. Coverage from T-20 minutes...

Mixin Network, which recently lost approximately $200 million in a hacking incident, has issued a public appeal to the exploiter behind the security breach. Mixin network has offered the hacker a $20 million Bug Bounty Reward for the safe return of user assets. Mixin Network’s Public Appeal to Hacker Mixin Network, recently hit by a cyber attack that resulted in a loss of around $200 million, has made a public plea to the perpetrator of the breach. The team is proposing a Bug Bounty Reward of $20 million in exchange for the secure recovery of their users’ assets. The network’s appeal to the hacker was communicated via Etherscan. Mixin Network stated, “Most of our platform assets were users, and we hope you can refund them. You can keep $20M of the assets as a BUG Bunty Reward for the BUG.” They also provided contact information for the hacker to initiate discussions on the reward. The hacker’s identity remains unknown, but an independent investigation conducted by Web3 SaaS analytics platform 0xScope has shed some light on their historical relationship with Mixin Network. An address connected to the recent $200M @MixinKernel #hack received 5 $ETH from the platform last year and deposited 5.9 $ETH on #Binance soon after. As a precautionary measure, the platform quickly suspended all deposit and withdrawal services in an effort to contain the situation. In a recent update on the social platform X, Mixin Network’s team shared insights into their actions following the initial breach, stating, “The first time the incident occurred, we contacted Google (Mandiant) and blockchain security company @SlowMist_Team to assist with the investigation. After several days, we have completed most of the asset tally work, and the situation is much more optimistic than expected. The losses are not as significant as estimated.” Despite the encouraging developments, Mixin Network has urged its users to exercise caution and refrain from making any transactions or market activities on the platform temporarily to prevent further losses. On Monday, ‘Nightline’ Delivers Strongest Telecast in Adults 25-54 in 8 Months and Best Performance in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 in 3 Months

ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (784,000), Adults 25-54 (224,000) and Adults 18-49 (139,000) during the week of Sept. 18, 2023, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “Nightline” took the top spot in overall viewers in 19 of the last 20 weeks.

“Nightline”improved week to week in Total Viewers (+3% - 784,000 vs. 764,000) and Adults 25-54 (+1% - 2241,000 vs. 222,000), hitting 3-month highs in both measures ― since weeks of 6/12/23 and 6/5/23, respectively.

On Monday (9/18/23), “Nightline” delivered its strongest telecast in Adults 25-54 (440,000) in 8 months and its best performance in Total Viewers (1.143 million) and Adults 18-49 (335,000) in 3 months ― since 1/16/23 and 6/7/23, respectively.

For Black-owned businesses, concerns extend beyond inflation, supply chain issues--NBC

When Keith Millner, wife Charmaine and two of their friends decided to open a Jersey Mike’s Subs sandwich shop in Atlanta in 2019, they had no idea they would end up working behind the counter.

Their doors opened in November 2020, during the heart of the Covid pandemic. When businesses started reopening in July 2021, the nature of commerce had changed — and Black businesses felt the reverberations. For this group at Jersey Mike’s, part of the work became finding dedicated workers post-pandemic. With little to no options, they were forced to don aprons and hats and roll up their sleeves.

“It’s either that or close the business,” said Millner, a former commercial banker who now coaches individuals and organizations on corporate culture, public speaking and other areas. “We were trained on every aspect of the business. So, yeah, we ran the counter, made sandwiches, worked the grill, ordered inventory — whatever it took. And we still do.”

A recent study of small business owners by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce found that inflation and supply chain issues are the top challenges entrepreneurs face today. However, Black business owners, like Millner and Co., face other unique hurdles that are specific to the Black community.

Unlike their white counterparts, Black businesses deal with systemic racism — a fact highlighted in a study on the government’s Payment Protection Program (PPP). The study shows that there are structural inequities “built-in to the administration of the program, the application process, and the fee structure.” Additionally, Black businesses often encounter racism and discrimination when securing bank financing, which leads to them having difficulties acquiring loans.

There has also been a massive increase of Black workers wanting flexibility instead of working traditional 9-to-6 schedules, leading to labor shortages, according to a study by Future Forum. 

A Future Forum/Slack survey of 5,448 workers found that 83% of Black workers want a flexible working schedule to create a work-life balance, which creates a labor shortage for Black business owners serving the Black community, especially in the service industry. Millner’s Jersey Mike’s in Atlanta is located in an area with a largely Black demographic and workforce. Millner and his corporate executive co-partners Charmaine Ward, Eric Harrison and Nicole Williams say these stats coincide with their ongoing staffing issues. 

“Their freedom and flexibility in their schedule are more important to them than a regular paycheck,” Millner said of many young Black workers he has employed. “And so, they will drive Uber or Lyft. They will take the occasional odd job or they’ll go work for a moving company for a day or two or they’ll take four roommates so that they can split their rent. They’re making a lot of different choices from a lifestyle standpoint. And it impacts business.” 

The challenge of securing funding

The Chamber of Commerce study said that 85% of small business owners say they are concerned about the impact of inflation on their business, up from 74% last quarter. One in three small business owners call inflation their highest concern and 67% of them have raised prices in response to inflation. Those concerns weigh heavily on Black-owned businesses, too. But the biggest hurdle is finding those willing to finance their business.  

Maya Barfield, a veterinarian who owns Willow Brook Animal Hospital in Dallas, was astounded and deflated when, despite having pristine credit and attempting to purchase an established successful business, she and her husband were refused bank loans.

“You put together a great portfolio and it’s not enough,” Barfield said. “A process that should take 30 to 45 days took us six months. It was exhausting. Our white counterparts who are on equal footing had no such problems.”

She and her husband, a pharmaceutical company executive, had to use programs such as Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC)’s Black Economic Development Fund to secure the resources to procure their business.

This concern is unique to Black entrepreneurs. A number of studies and organizations point out various discrepancies in lending practices, all of them pointing to Black entrepreneurs being denied at an exponentially higher rate than non-Blacks. The Federal Reserve found that over half of Black business owners were rejected for bank loans, which is twice the rate compared to white business owners.

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s flagship 7(a) program decreased loans to Black businesses by 35% in 2020, the largest drop in lending to any race or ethnic group tracked by the agency.

Millner and Co. had a curious experience when attempting to open their Jersey Mike’s restaurant. They received two approval letters from major banks. But days before closing, they were told they could not be funded.

“We have A-1 credit—all of us,” he said. “We had purchased equipment and the initial inventory, signed a 10-year lease and hired people. And then we had to scramble.

 “I used to be a banker, so I know the drill. This was not a common practice, approving someone and then pulling the offer just before closing.”

Many Black businesses, the Brookings Institute’s report said, had greater luck pursuing loans from non mainstream banks. NPR reported that Savannah, Georgia’s Black-owned Carver State Bank helped many Black businesses that were denied loans from mainstream banks, issuing $9 million in PPP loans within a five-month period. 

But all PPP loans have not been beneficial to Black-owned businesses. The Center for Responsible Lending stated some of those challenges in their report.

“The Paycheck Protection Program continues to be disadvantageous to smaller businesses, businesses owned by people of color, and businesses without employees. PPP loans can be forgiven if the business is able to use the funds for eligible expenses within eight weeks of receiving the loan,” the report read. “This requirement makes it challenging, particularly for very small businesses, to ensure loans are forgiven rather than converted into long-term debt.”

Non-Black support has dwindled

Black-owned businesses were energized by the response to the Black Lives Matter-led social justice movement of 2020. Inspired by the cause and frustrated with long-standing inequities that were on full display when George Floyd was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis, BLM helped ignite a push to support Black-owned businesses. There was no data to support the uptick in sales that owners say they initially felt, but anecdotally, they contend there was a boost once businesses reopened after the pandemic-forced shut down.

According to NBC Bay Area, searches for “Black-owned businesses near me” peaked in June 2020, with companies like Yelp making it easier for people to find and support Black-owned businesses, per data from Google.

That meant non-Black patrons were on the support train, too. “I felt it and I saw it,” said Mel Banks, who was shopping for a birthday gift for his wife last week at The New Black Wall Street in Stonecrest, Georgia, about 17 miles east of Atlanta. It is a mall that has more than 100 shops and restaurants — all Black-owned.

Over time, though, the enthusiasm for the BLM push diminished. And as BLM the movement quieted, so did support.

Tremaine Jasper, owner and editor of PhxSoul.com, a website that lists events and has a Phoenix-area Black-owned business directory, said he benefited from the social justice movement and community effort to support Black-owned business. He said he received up to 10,000 views in one day, when he usually had 13,000 a month. His website was promoted on mainstream media outlets, including rapper Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

While traffic on his website has slightly dipped since then, Jasper said that he also witnessed a decline in revenue for advertising and grant funding opportunities, which were much more promoted to entrepreneurs and made available during the pandemic. He said it is difficult to pinpoint the cause for the decline, but noted one factor could be from a decline of media coverage highlighting Black-owned businesses.

“I think that PhxSoul.com has probably dropped off in the minds of people who don’t regularly visit the website,” he said.

The same can be said for salon owner Nikia Londy, who runs Intriguing Hair, a wig and hair extension shop in Boston. She said that during the height of the social justice movement, corporations and financial institutions pledged to support Black-owned businesses. However, two years later, Londy, 37, said she doesn’t “really see where that has gone.”

Alternative options for Black businesses 

This helped small business owners like Londy, who faced major financial challenges both during and post-pandemic. Aside from struggling to make payroll during the government shutdown, and having her store looted during the 2020 protests, Londy was denied a business loan from her bank of 10 years. Londy said her bank’s rejection “didn’t make sense,” and as a result was grateful for the alternative funding options like the ones LISC provided.

The salon owner eventually received two $10,000 grants, one from Verizon’s Small Business Digital Ready program through LISC and another from PayPal through the Association for Enterprise Opportunity, a program that provides capital and services to help underprivileged communities. Through LISC’s digital accelerator program, she also was able to hire three college interns from the Hult International School of Business, who worked on a digital marketing campaign for Intriguing Hair and helped increase customer traffic to the salon.

LISC also works with many major banks and insurance companies, and public and private foundations that invest in communities of color. Hall, who leads LISC’s small business and commercial lending, said the organization works with partners and foundations to decrease down payment risks for borrowers. The normal down payment risk for commercial real estate averages around 10-20% for borrowers, Hall said, but his organization lowers it to between 3 to 5% for borrowers.

Hall advises Black businesses to consider certain industries, like professional services, in which they have a better chance at being successful. Hall says that Black-owned businesses need to be in more sectors and should reflect the community needs. He cites “The Jeffersons,” a popular 1970s Black sitcom centered on a Black man who built wealth as a dry cleaners owner as an example of a business endeavor that Black people embraced.

“In the ’70s and ’80s, African Americans … we dominated the dry-cleaning business nationally,” Hall said. He said that’s not the case anymore, adding that Black American likely “didn’t see the value in it.” 

Now, Jasper is focused on the solutions. He said it’s also important for Black business owners to understand the value of partnering with other Black-owned businesses: “Let’s work on our strengths and weaknesses and try to present a good opportunity.”
