He wasn’t originally meant to be stationed out here in the world of the living. As a seated officer, trips to the world of the living weren’t even meant to be a frequent thing per his itinerary! Alas, the Soul Reaper meant to be on duty almost bit it in a scuffle against a Hollow, so Captain Iba ultimately voluntold his reliable subordinate to fill in until the next scheduled soldier’s time came.

Shigeru wouldn’t lie that helped to keep his skills fresh lest they start rusting on him. After all, spars against your fellow Shinigami could only accomplish so much compared to actual field work, so it was good to have the random Hollow keep him on his toes. That, and time away from handling paperwork made the breather away from Soul Society all the more welcome.

But...

“Fuckin’ laughable.”

...these mooks were just too piss easy to deal with now. The brawler supposed it came with the territory of being in the 11th Division for so long, but as the purified spirit disintegrated into thin air, all he could do was huff in disappointment. One swing from his weapon, and down they fell!

Shōrō Kanraku transformed from its kanabō-like Shikai back into katana form, and slid into its sheath with a soundly click. A short walk into the deserted alleyway saw the ghostly Shigeru merge back into his physical double, the upright and punk-donning gigai shifting out of its rabbity personality before hosting his own spirit once again.

Disappointment aside, there was something else on his mind: the lack of anything in his stomach. He should have enough pocket change for a meal, right?

With his next course of action decided, Shigeru took to roaming the city again, seamlessly melding with the crowd of spiritually unaware humans who would not have witnessed his earlier struggle... or lack thereof.

At least, he assumed they were all spiritually unaware.
