I’m incredibly satisfied with the outcome of this brief. Especially given that the majority of this installation was put up and made in 3 hours.
Starting from next week, we’ll begin to experiment with different drawing techniques with inspiration from our installation for a maximum of about 25 hours. This is why it was crucial that our piece be visually stimulating.
(close ups and progression under cut:)

Marble sarcophagus with the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons. Roman ca. 260–270 CE. x
This highly ornate and extremely well-preserved Roman marble sarcophagus came to the Metropolitan Museum from the collection of the Dukes of Beaufort and was formerly displayed in their country seat, Badminton House in Gloucestershire, England. An inscription on the unfinished back of the sarcophagus records that it was installed there in 1733. In contrast to the rough and unsightly back, the sides and front of the sarcophagus are decorated with forty human and animal figures carved in high relief. The central figure is that of the god Dionysos seated on a panther, but he is somewhat overshadowed by four larger standing figures who represent the four Seasons (from left to right, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall). The figures are unusual in that the Seasons are usually portrayed as women, but here they are shown as sturdy youths. Around these five central figures are placed other Bacchic figures and cultic objects, all carved at a smaller scale. On the rounded ends of the sarcophagus are two other groups of large figures, similarly intermingled with lesser ones. On the left end, Mother Earth is portrayed reclining on the ground; she is accompanied by a satyr and a youth carrying fruit. On the right end, a bearded male figure, probably to be identified with the personification of a river-god, reclines in front of two winged youths, perhaps representing two additional Seasons.
The sarcophagus is an exquisite example of Roman funerary art, displaying all the virtuosity of the workshop where it was carved. The marble comes from a quarry in the eastern Mediterranean and was probably shipped to Rome, where it was worked. Only a very wealthy and powerful person would have been able to commission and purchase such a sarcophagus, and it was probably made for a member of one of the old aristocratic families in Rome itself. The subjects - the triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons - are unlikely, however, to have had any special significance for the deceased, particularly as it is clear that the design was copied from a sculptor's pattern book. Another sarcophagus, now in the Hessisches Landesmuseum in Kassel, Germany, has the same composition of Dionysos flanked by the four Seasons, although the treatment and carving of the figures is quite different. On the Badminton sarcophagus the figures are carved in high relief and so endow the crowded scene with multiple areas of light and shade, allowing the eye to wander effortlessly from one figure to another. One must also imagine that certain details were highlighted with color and even gilding, making the whole composition a visual tour de force.
Very few Roman sarcophagi of this quality have survived. Although the Badminton sarcophagus lacks its lid, the fact that it was found in the early eighteenth century and soon thereafter installed in Badminton Hall means that it has been preserved almost intact and only a few of the minor extremities are now missing.

Huge Low Poly Art Sculptures And Installations By David Mesguich
David Mesguich, a street artist and globetrotter, makes large installations that leaves where everyone can see them, in the public spaces of countries like France, Belgium and Poland.
Huge installations that are designed to shake the social consciousness, as in the case of his latest project “Stateless“, a series where the protagonists are migrants who fight against the borders and the Holy Europe watching from the sideline.

Pseudodocumentation, David DiMichele
These seemingly large-scale installations take natural phenomena and installation art to a whole new level. By paying attention to small detail, composition, placing a few humans for scale and taking low angle photographs DiMichele is able to capture larger-than-life artworks that resonates the viewer so they are forced to pay attention to detail all while subliminally tricked to the perceptual full-scale models.

You've done excellent analyses of the mechanics of the Farm Arrays crop harvesters and the iterator labs, and I've wanted to ask. How do you think the void fluid drill silos functioned? Because I have no clue what all these bits&bobs could be for.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7a258c0042a707489b7428c5145ac4b7/0de9f6eb4b959330-c5/s1280x1920/1b3fe6f21f5f44330773f057fa16d1bbe9e0f1c5.jpg)

![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5a2c6d9b9445b2ca443ba0813c3d71b6/0de9f6eb4b959330-5c/s640x960/d314eec51d9cfa4818ca00d6bc488e2625ca63f8.jpg)
Here's the filtration system drill for reference (in an easier to see palette)
Here's also the region art for reference
I think this part is the engine, the part that powers up the drill's spin
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1ff047b76f61bddb172991600c170608/0de9f6eb4b959330-d0/s640x960/419a11cb7912b03361648a2fdbe147b100cee514.jpg)
And it could also be an automatic assembly point, more on that in a moment
Now, the screw-like shaft, which I thought was a different kind of drill at some point, could have that shape in order to transmit momentum
Now, as for where is all that shaft retracted to, it could be a telescopic mechanism
Or it could be soft when stored in the pipe behind the engine then harden in exposure to air, like noodlefly stingers
Or it could be assembled from base materials on the engine itself, meaning the engine could be a purposed organism creating the shaft like snail creates its shell (but likely faster)
Iterators likely do this at a large scale in the memory conflux assembly, and their components were likely made this way
... although, this assembly theory would only explain the great length and segmented look, and would not be particularly compatible with retracted drills like the one in filtration system, which would still require something like the first two theories. Maybe a combination of these is what's happening
The corncob-like looking tip is definitely the actual drill
Now, I don't know why this one has two engines
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/07913000ad05b1629ded3b5bf3597526/0de9f6eb4b959330-be/s1280x1920/c6072efb6c13df9c25ea90ddc635266e819a40cc.jpg)
Maybe it split in half, maybe an extra one was added because it needed an extra boost (even though this one is shallower than the others)
Maybe the engine or part of it also goes down to install the walls of the holes as it goes deeper
Void fluid seems to have been collected through these holes into the corresponding pipes to be filtered and moved around, rather than absorbed directly through the drill
If I knew how exactly drilling for oil works I'd probably be able to say more here
Maybe I'll add more in a reblog after I inform myself with that

Artist Creates Portraits on Giant Ice Sheets in the Baltic Sea

David Popa is a Romanian artist who creates land art installations on massive ice sheets in the Baltic Sea. After living in New York for ten years, the artist relocated to Finland, where he began developing his unique art form.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Popa’s work is the creation of large-scale drawings that span areas covering several hectares. He also creates portraits on vast stretches of rocks and earth, evoking a sense of peace and tranquility.

For his colors, he uses exclusively natural elements such as white chalk from the Champagne region, French and Italian ochre, and powdered charcoal he produces himself. The charcoal also plays a minor role in water purification, leaving it cleaner than when the artist first encountered it. Popa has also created works on the rocks of Norwegian fjords, the arid clearings of the Saudi Arabian desert, and other locations worldwide.

Completing most of the portraits takes between three to six hours of work, depending on the weather, temperature, and sea conditions. The use of natural materials gives the installations a transient quality, as they are eventually reabsorbed by the earth and disappear within a short time.

One of the artist’s most well-known installation series is titled “Fractured,” featuring portraits on floating ice sheets in the Finnish sea. Popa leaves his works to their fate, with the various pieces of the portraits scattering into the sea. The original image remains preserved only in aerial footage documented for posterity.
