i'm fat, i'm a large fat i'm a fatty, i'm a fatso, i am unconcerned with diet culture, i will not pursue intentional weight loss, i'm not on this planet to shrink myself, i dont exist to starve myself, i talk a lot about being fat because it's part of who i am and affects my every day life, i'm proud to be fat, i'm fat and taking up the space i deserve, i will never shut up about being fat, i didn't go through a bad relationship with food, movement and my body to stay silent about fatness and fat liberation. society hasn't bullied me into silence then and they won't do it now. i'm the exact amount of fat that offends you personally.

according to the medical industry, i'm morbidly obese, also known as class III obesity - the second highest stage of obesity, apparently. meanwhile, in terms of the Fat Spectrum (which is based on literal body size relative to accessibility/ableism), i'm only in the cusp between small and mid fat. above me, there are those firmly in mid fat, and then there's large fat and infinifat/super fat; there's also death fat, which is for anyone who wants to reclaim the categorization of morbidity.

i point this out because the medical industry, and society at large, has such a skewed and dehumanizing view of fat bodies. even the smallest of us are too much, and that sense of existing in wrongness and excess only gets worse the more fat you are. and i feel like straight size people have this idea that body fat is an accessory - that it can be taken on and off at will, and that fat people are simply choosing to have too much - that we're greedy and gluttonous because of it.

but in reality, body fat is a part of the human body. it comes in varying amounts in everyone, and that amount changes throughout our lives, throughout health and ability. and being part of the human body, our fat is us. by asking us to lose weight, become smaller, more palatable, you are asking us to change who we are. to literally take on a new face, because our face - the very thing most attach to our identity as a unique sign of us - is too much. can you imagine how heartbreaking that might be?

this idea of excess is similar for those who use mobility aids, and all of this a reminder that fatphobia is ableism - neither of which are ever okay or good or helpful or righteous. health and size are not indicators of morality and worth, and they certainly don't decide whether we deserve autonomy, healthcare, or access to life.

i can’t stop thinking about neil and andrew’s cats. like sure it’s objectively quite funny that they’re called sir fat cat mccatterson and king fluffkins, sir and king for short. however. HOWEVER.

imagine this. you are Kevin Day. you have been physically free from the cult you grew up in for nearly seven years now (it will never leave your head. it taught you what you love and poisons whatever it can). you got out, your friend got out, and you’re learning to live with the hole in your heart shaped like the monster you loved. you’re healing. you have family, you have friends, and your two closest friends have decided to get cats.

you are invited to meet the cats, and you say you don’t care about the cats but go anyway. your friend opens the door with his usual contemptuous apathy while your other friend is trying to get one of the cats out from under the sofa. the other friend introduces the cats to you while the first one pretends not to care. he says “the orange one is sir, she’s obese because andrew keeps letting her finish his vile chocolate drinks. the one under the sofa is king.”

Staff could have EASILY mentioned in the original post they weren't taking away a beloved feature (chronological feed). If staff knew one fucking thing about this website, it's that they should have clarified that and yet...

anyways. i don't trust staff at ALL (but been here forever and never have). I do think it is pathetic that they don't have an ounce of respect for their userbase. It's fine to want to gain more followers, but doing so at the expense of the userbase that has kept the website afloat for years is not it.

also if the existing userbase left this place it would be a deadzone that is unattractive to new users. the fact that we make it busy and make content is WHY IT IS APPEALING.

edit: if tumblr was ACTUALLY serious about keeping the chronological feed and not just walking back what they said after massive backlash then why do new users not have the option to make the following only dashboard tab their default? huh??
