Hello mga ka sheesh, my co- pre-service teachers and Pauliniatics. This is your newbie blogger Stephan Hashley Javier, 19 years old and not ready to be an adult huhu! I am currently taking a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science, and I believe that cram is the best way to finish your activities!
Come along with me and my journey in TTL promising you that this blog is full of sheshableness! :>
THESE ARE MY ANSWER IN OUR FIRST QUIZ IN TTL 1 UNDER MR. MARK FRANCIS ASTOM.
In this blog I will be tackling the different facets in Ict, and will be able to give real life scenarios in each of them. Sit back and read.
Before you start, here is some ice cream, to be more relaxed while reading. <3
____________________
Cloud Computing
Scenario:
It allows me and my fellow students to access updated learning tools from anywhere, making collaboration easier and saving time. Where we can view some digital notes and modules for us to be easy to access. The remote capacity of cloud platforms means that a more diverse range of students can also be reached by educational institutions while lowering costs.
Software
Scenario:
I use software to help me learn more efficiently. This can include games and simulators, flashcard apps, video conferencing, and some online learning apps for , online encyclopedias, or tools like calculators or spellcheckers. For me to make my learning easy. For the past 3 years we have been using some software in our daily life as students, like Microsoft 365 where it is really necessary in the learning process.
Transaction
Scenario:
We are in a transaction everyday we cannot just notice it sometimes, as a lazy person like me I like purchasing online that going to a mall to buy my necessities one of online platforms that I've been using is Tiktok shop, Shoppe, Lazada, Food Panda, and in paying them I am using gcash, gcash is very easy to use and safe also you don't need your wallet too.
Hardware
Scenario:
As an education student the first thing that we need is Gadgets like phones, laptop, printer, wifi, and etc. So it is easy for us to access some online learning access.
Digital Data
Scenario:
As a student I rely more on digital data to have more accuracy, because judgments and actions are made by computers rather than people, so it is greater accuracy in terms of assigned duties. Also it is faster and wider reached because the digital data can contact and provide data to many individuals simultaneously and at the one push of a button, it is really incredibly and considerably faster to use and to access with.
Internet Browsers
Scenario:
Web Browsers allow me to access websites, search for information, shop online, and connect with my friends worldwide. They can translate complex web code into user-friendly pages, making the internet accessible to everyone and easy to use too and it is also relevant to our journey as students and future educators.
Computers and Technology
Scenario:
Last semester in one of our subjects, the teacher required us to create our own research. We need to gather information on renewable energy sources. Computers and technology help us and guide me on how to use computers and technology effectively for our very own research. Computers and technology have really been a powerful tools for research. First, we begin by identifying reliable online sources. We also used search engines to find reputable websites, academic journals, and research papers related to renewable energy sources. We also made sure to evaluate the sources for credibility and relevance. From this scenario, we, student reallt needs to seeks guidance on using computers and technology in making research. Where even the teacher provides information on finding reliable online sources, the computers and technology still hits diff.
Online Access
Scenario;
I noticed this during the pandemic in 2020 where the pandemic started, the Philippines Local Government implemented the Digital Online Class where the students started to rely on Online sources. Then nowadays we noticed that the majority of the population relies heavily on the internet for various aspects of their lives. Country is known for its strong community spirit and commitment to progress. Where online access has become an integral part of everyday life, enabling the people to stay connected, access information, and even on conducting and relying on their businesses.
In the Philippines the local government has implemented a digital infrastructure plan to ensure that every school has access to high-speed internet. This initiative has transformed the country into a hub of digital innovation, attracting new businesses and entrepreneurs who appreciate the convenience and opportunities provided by online connectivity such as online sellings and etc.
The citizens in the Philippines and also all over the world have embraced the benefits of online access in their daily lives. Students can easily access educational resources and participate in online learning programs. Small business owners can reach a wider customer base through e-commercial platforms. Professionals and un-professionals can also work remotely, saving time and reducing commuting expenses. Even healthcare services have become more accessible through telemedicine, allowing people to consult doctors online without leaving their homes that's another benefit of online access.
The community has also leveraged online platforms to enhance social interactions and support local initiatives. Online forums and social media groups have become platforms for sharing ideas, organizing events, and fostering a sense of belonging. The students have been actively participating in virtual seminars because it is easy for them to access, they don't need to travel at all and it's less hassle, where they can freely voice their opinions and contribute to decision-making processes.
Online access has also played a crucial role ti us as we response to emergencies and natural disasters. The local government uses digital communication channels to provide real-time updates and instructions to residents, ensuring their safety and well-being. Also Online fundraising campaigns have been successful in mobilizing support during times of crisis, allowing the community to come together and help those in need.
Online access has become a lifeline for the people, empowering them to thrive in a digital age. The country serves as an example of how a strong digital infrastructure can enhance the quality of life, foster economic growth, and strengthen community bonds.
____________________________________________
Here I am emphasizing Learning process because all that I've mentioned was all interconnected w/ each other. Online access in the learning process, where the teachers can a make use of the internet by proving the students with extra study material and resources such as interactive lessons, educational quizzes as well as tutorials. Teachers can also record their lectures and provide it to the students for revisions which is better than reading from notes. We cannot deny the fact that every student always uses their gadgets so it is easy for them to access their notes when it is digital.
Online access can be applied in various ways in teaching learning in Virtual Classes Online access can be applied in teaching and learning in various ways to enhance the educational experience. Here are some examples is the Virtual Classes where Online access allows teachers and students to connect through video conferencing platforms, enabling live virtual classes, Online Learnings where we can utilize online learning platforms which the teachers can create and share educational resources such as lecture notes, videos, quizzes, and assignments, Collaborative Projects where nline access enables students to collaborate on projects and assignments, even when they are not physically present in the same location where they can also create group chats so they can communicate with each others, Multimedia Content with this the implementer can incorporate multimedia content into their lessons to make them more engaging and interactive, and also in Online Assessments where Online access allows for the administration of online assessments, including quizzes, tests, and exams or diagnostic exam trough google drives, and etc.

Your co-star, Chris, hears about your ideal date in an interview and decides to take you up on it for your birthday. After that night, you begin to wonder if there’s something more there.
-
“You ready, Y/n?” Chris asked as he adjusted his sweater sleeve around his watch, looking over at you. It was your first interview together of what would be many. You were paired together on the press tour because you had chemistry, despite not having many scenes together, and this morning was Buzzfeed. No pressure, right?
“As I’ll ever be,” you responded. You were friendly with him, mostly because you were friends.
“Don’t be nervous, they’re great,” he said, putting a hand on your back. “I’m the only one in that room about to make a fool of myself. Trust me.” You walked from the green room together to the stage area, where you sat down and they gave you both microphone packs. Yours was hanging off the back of your romper, but his was fixed securely to his shirt.
“Alright, we have a quiz for you guys,” one of the producers said to the both of you, putting out two laptops in front of you. “What we’re gonna do is you’ll read the question out loud and you’ll answer and kind of talk us through the answer. If we need to change an angle we’ll stop. Sound good?”
“Sounds good,” you replied at the same time Chris did. That made him chuckle and elbow you a little bit. You started the first two questions as easy enough – pick your favorite puppy and choose your dream job if you weren’t an actor. And then the third question came – what was your ideal date in New York City?
“We have a picnic in Central Park, a day at the MOMA, brunch on the Upper East Side, or ice skating,” Chris said. “I think… I don’t know. They’re all good ideas. But I really like just talking to someone, getting to spend time with them, so it’s either brunch or the picnic.” He looked over at you with a little smile, urging you to answer.
“I don’t know! They’re all cute ideas. But I’ve literally never been on a date that didn’t end in some kind of disaster. I think a picnic in Central Park is really cute, though. I’m definitely going with that one.”
“But bugs!” Chris said, obviously trying to bring you out of your shell.
“But it’s such a cute idea! If you’re with the right person bugs won’t matter.” Chris sighed and clicked on his answer and you clicked on yours.
“I hate it when you’re right,” he replied with a sly smile, moving onto the next question that it was your turn to read. You noticed that he threw his arm behind you on the chair as he laughed at a question. It was a natural move, not a planned one, and he was laughing his head off.
“See!” He said an hour later after you finished. “I promised you’d be fine.” They were taking the mic packs away from you and you were going to your next individual interview with them.
“I guess,” you replied.
“Your birthday’s coming up, right?” He asked.
“Tomorrow. Nobody likes you when you’re 23 though, right?” You referenced Blink-182, one of your favorite bands, and one that you and Chris had jammed out to many mornings in the makeup trailer when you just happened to be there at the same time.
“Then we should do something. Come on, let me take you out and buy you a drink.”
“You don’t have to,” you insisted, “I’m sure you have friends in town that you wanna see.”
“No, I want to. Come on. Please?” You eventually accepted and started to walk to the other interview after squeezing Chris’s arm in thanks. If you had eyes in the back of your head, you would have seen his eyes lingering on you as you walked away and you definitely would have wondered why.
Your birthday came and you answered a few messages, just saying you were planning on going out with Chris after another long day of press. He was extra nice to you all day – he brought you coffee in the morning, he bought your lunch even though he wasn’t there, and he told you he had a surprise.
“What kind of surprise?” You asked for the millionth time. You were getting out of your final interview.
“You’ll see when we get there!” He insisted. “Just go clean up and don’t eat anything. I’ll meet you in the lobby at seven, okay?”
“Can you at least tell me what outfit to wear?” You asked. He opened the taxi door for you that would take you back to your hotel.
“Fine. We’ll be outside, so dress for sixty-three degrees.”
“Alright, Captain.” That was the end of your conversation – you took another shower, put on more makeup, and then waited for Chris in the lobby. He was approximately two minutes late, but he was smiling so much that you couldn’t help but let it slide.
“So are you going to tell me where we’re going?” You asked as he walked with you outside. He grinned.
“Nope. Just walk with me and everything will be fine.” You chose to do what he said, knowing that he wouldn’t do anything crazy because he knew you didn’t like doing particularly crazy things – he had learned a lot about you after six tequila shots on the first couple of nights filming. You walked alongside him, just making conversation, and walked for about ten blocks before he pulled out his phone. Probably just to look at a map.
“So are you going to tell me now?”
“No!” He elbowed you with a grin on his face. “We’re going into the park. I’ll tell you that much.”
“Aww!”
“Yeah, yeah, just keep walking before I change my mind!” You giggled and followed him as he laid a hand on your back, walking into one of the park’s many entrances across from the Dakota. You kept looking over at him to see that he was looking for something, or someone, and you walked on the outskirts of the park for another minute or two before he looked at his phone again. He looked like he realized something and he led you over to one of the less crowded areas of grass. You saw an empty blanket that looked slightly familiar, and on top of it was a bag of takeout. It only took you a second – he’d listened to you in that interview and given you a picnic in Central Park.
“Chris!” You said, grabbing onto his arm. He had a shit-eating grin on his face as he led you over.
“Did I do okay for a birthday dinner?” He asked. You stood up tall, hugging him even though it slightly smeared your makeup, and sat down. He pulled two bottles of beer out of the bag, your favorite beer, and un-capped them as you found a place to sit on the blanket.
“How are you so sweet?” You asked him. “You didn’t have to do this.”
“Yeah, I did!” He said as he handed you a bottle of beer and started to unpack the food. You hadn’t heard of the restaurant on the bag’s label, but when Chris pulled out your favorite Italian food, you almost died. Almost. “Look, you said in that interview that you’ve never had a date that didn’t end in disaster. So let me change that.”
“You’re the best.”
“I know. I know. But I’m not taking any credit, it was technically Buzzfeed’s idea. You just picked that answer.” You smiled and crossed your legs, and you and Chris started eating the massive amount of food he’d brought because he said he didn’t quite know what your favorite was. He hit it completely, and after downing another beer after eating, you were just sitting there as the sun set. You could barely see it through all of the trees and buildings, but it was orange and purple and gorgeous. It started to cool down by the time you were throwing your trash away and folding up the blanket. It was the blanket Chris always brought on planes.
“Have I mentioned that you’re the best?” You said as you started walking back. You both had temporary MetroCards, but decided just to walk. It gave you more time together, and even though you weren’t sure that was his motive, you were glad to get the time with him. You loved being around him, hearing all of his stories, and hearing about the website he was working on. He was so passionate about everything and it made you want to fall in love with the world in the same way that he did. And he was the ultimate gentleman, having you go in front of him, taking your arm or your hand to guide you.
All too soon, though, the doorman was opening the hotel doors for you and you got inside the elevator. Chris had been smiling the entire time and so had you. Your face hurt and your makeup had smile lines, but you loved being with him. The elevator got to your floor and he walked you out toward your door, even though his was on the next floor up. He stopped in front of your door as you grabbed the key, slightly opening the door.
“Thank you, Chris. Nobody else would’ve done that for me.”
“Hey, you deserve it. I couldn’t believe you’ve never been on a good date before, you’re 23.”
“Not for another hour.” He chuckled.
“Right. Well, happy birthday.” Maybe it was the two beers because you were such a lightweight. Maybe it was because you were just feeling bold despite what a Blink-182 song said about being 23. But you stood on your toes and kissed his cheek, feeling him start to blush underneath you as you grabbed his arm.
“Thank you,” you said again. He was beaming. You didn’t know why, but maybe it was just because he liked that you were happy. Or maybe it was something more. You didn’t want to think about it, though.
“Good night, Y/n. Sleep tight and I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” He closed your door behind you and you walked into your hotel room, taking off your shoes, and you started texting a group of your friends about the night. Most of them seemed to agree – Chris liked you. Even if it wasn’t completely obvious, he liked you. He was a nice person, sure, but he wouldn’t do that for just anybody. And he wouldn’t blush like that. You took off your nice clothes and started getting ready to go to bed, opening an email from the press agent about the next day’s schedule and questions that you might be asked. This was for a women’s magazine, of course, because your movie was kind of romantic enough to be considered a romantic comedy. Your producers knew your market.
Most of the questions were just normal – tell us about the movie, about your characters, about the relationship your characters have with each other. But then they started getting deeper and you grinned at one of the last few – what do you do when you like a guy/girl? What’s your tell?
This was about to get more complicated. You knew that and you were fine with it. If your friends were right, you had an opportunity to shoot your shot. And you might as well. No harm done, right? Your press tour wasn’t very long and you could stand awkward with Chris because awkward with him was still extremely friendly.
The next morning you’d mentally prepared yourself to shoot your shot, even if it ended up crashing and burning. You met Chris in the lobby again to go over to the office where you were interviewing, and while last night was a topic of conversation it wasn’t in-depth. You were nervous and he could tell, and you were sure they’d sent him the same email with the interview questions. Maybe he was scheming like you were. Or maybe it was just another interview where women would swoon at him and he would act like he didn’t expect it.
“Hi, I’m Chris Evans,” Chris said to the camera on your first take together, looking at you as he said his name.
“And I’m Y/n,” you said.
“And today we’re going to tell you a little bit about a movie that we’ve been working on.” The movie questions were easy, and Chris was fantastic at answering them. He always pulled you into it, even if the questions weren’t directed right at you. He was looking at you a little bit longer than he had before last night, and you noticed. Finally they got to the complicated questions.
“What do you do when you like someone? How do you act around them?” They directed for Chris to go first, and he nervously ran a hand through his hair.
“I feel like I’m really bad at hiding it. You know, I always get caught looking at them for a little longer. And if they talk to me I start blushing like a fifteen year-old. I would say I’m a romantic, so if I do anything that’s specific to you, I probably like you.” Chris looked over at you to answer, and you glared at him as you did.
“If I like you, I’m very, like, giggly and I love to listen to people talk, so if I listen to you and keep getting you to talk I definitely like you. And if I’m slightly more bold in conversation, it’s kind of me being like, you know, please notice me,” you answered. “I’m also a lot more affectionate, which I guess they don’t expect, so that’s usually the tell that’s like yeah, I like you.” You saw the realization wash over Chris’s face, but you weren’t sure the cameras did.
“What’s the most romantic thing anyone’s ever done for you? Y/n, you can take this one first.” Here you go, you thought.
“Well, I’d said at some point that I’d never been on, like, a good date before. And so he took me out and he just kept saying that I deserved better and that kind of thing, and he had my favorite drink and food. And I don’t think it was meant to be a date date, but it was really sweet and I truly appreciated just getting to spend time with him.” Your words didn’t come out as anonymous as you wanted them to, but it worked. Chris was next, and you couldn’t help but zone out to watch him as he spoke. His face was slowly turning red, maybe not on camera, but you could tell underneath all of the lights. When the interview was over, you had a few minutes until the next one started, so you got out of there and got another cup of coffee. Just as you were about to stir in some sugar, you felt a hand on your back.
“Can I talk to you?” Chris asked you. He looked nervous, which was something that you almost never saw. You knew he got nervous, but he was extremely good at hiding it. “You were right. Last night wasn’t meant to be a date date, but I really liked spending time with you, and I think you’re amazing, and I know this might be overstepping a boundary but I figured I should ask anyway. Just in case. Would you maybe want to actually go on a real date?” He spoke so quickly you could barely catch what he said. He was definitely nervous. All you could do was look down and smile like an idiot.
“That’s what I was trying to tell you in there.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah!” The both of you started laughing.
“Is tonight too early?” You shook your head.
“Meet in the lobby at 7?” You asked him. He grinned and nodded.
“I’ll meet you in the lobby at 7. And I promise I’ll tell you where we’re going this time.”
A/N: Thank you to the anon with this idea! I thought it was super cute! I hope you like it ❤️

Hello my friends,
So my previous post was a little teaser for todays topic. If you have not already guessed it, we're talking about videogames today! \°3°/
I don't how familiar you are with Detective Conan videogames? I assume most of you know that that's a thing. Owo
Edit: OK, so I was just told today by some people that they didn't know, that there are Detective Conan videogames. owO
Well, that's not a problem! I'm here to tell you a little bit ab out it. ૮₍。´• ˕ •`。₎ა
So In general there have been mad a lot of Detective Conan videogames over the past.
Consoles including:
Nintendo~
Gameboy
Gameboy Color
Gamboy Advance
DS
3DS
Wii
Switch
Sony PlayStation~
PlayStation 1
PlayStation Portable
And other Consoles and Computers that are Japan exclusive.
Since Detective Conan has been popular with young kids in Japan, most of these are games were made to appeal to this type of audience.
Most games, not all of them. ( ゚∀゚)
So now lets look at my small collection of Detective Conan videogames. °^°
I'm sorry of this will become a long post, but there is just too much to talk about. ^^°
These are all my Nintendo games:
Gameboy Advance~
"Detective Conan - Targeted Detective" is my newest game and I actually have the guide book along with it.
It has a nice story mode with multiple cases happening around well known Conan characters and some arcarde games.
I'm around 3/4 through the game and it got me hoocked at the first chapter. (⸝⸝⸝ᵒ̴̶̷ ⌑ ᵒ̴̶̷⸝⸝⸝)
The best part about old Conan games are, you can just buy them and put them into your Gameboy. They don't have a region protection. I've tried it and it really works. ⭕ (⌐■ω■)✧
DS~
"Detective Conan - Detective Trainer" is a nice game that's based on multiple arcade style games that are supposed to train you and let you become a great detective.
Because of it's overall concept it has a repetitive gameplay. Even though this game couln't hook me for a longer time, I found it still very fun and enjoyable. (ง˘ω˘)ว
"Detective Conan - The prelude of time" is a game that works more in the style of solving multiple cases. It has a nice story mode with multiple cases and well known characters. Alongside the story mode, two seperate arcade games and a extra jigsaw puzzle game there is also a Quiz game within the game where you can test your knowledge about Detective Conan. Yes, there is a lot to play. (๑°o°๑)
This game is absolutely amazing. I've played it multiple times and it's really really cool. > 3 <💖
Also this game was the only one that was released for PlayStation Portable.
Within the Japanese fandom it is known as one of the best Conan games to be ever made.
DS games also have no Region protection, meaning you can just buy them from Japan and play them on your DS. ⭕ (⌐■ω■)✧
3DS~
"Detective Conan - Marionette Symphony" is my only 3DS game. However I can't play it, because I don't own a Japanese 3DS. Unfortunately 3DS games have a region protection so you can't play it on any other device than a japanese 3DS. ❌
I am still very hyped. \°^°/🎉
I want to play this so bad. TwT
Wii~
The "Detective Conan - The Mirapolis investigation" is a game that's apparently is not in Japanese? Well that is because this game had more or less a international release. So I've got the German version of it. ^^°
Also this game is the first Detective Conan game in 3D.
I've played this game multiple times and it's actually not really that great compared to other Detective Conan games. The whole story mode can be completed in around one hour and that is actually short for a Conan game. TwT
The reason why I played this so often though, was just to turn on the cool music feature so I could listen to nice Detective Conan Soundtracks. Over all It's not a bad game, for me it's just not the best Detective Conan game out there. ≧▽≦
Switch~
Special appearance here for "Detective Conan - Skateboard Run - Kaitou Kid and the mysterious treasure" cause this game for Switch is only available as a digital download from the Japanese Nintendo E-Shop.
This game is essentially just a arcarde style 3D runner game. All over all it feels more like a ported version of a mobile game, but it's pretty fun to play. /°^°\
These are all my Sony Playstation games:
PlayStation 1~
As for the PlayStation 1 videogames i own "Detective Conan 3 Peoples Detective Novel", "Detective Conan" and "Detective Conan Trick Trick vol. 1"
I haven't played the games yet, just because I don't own the original console. I know you can emulate them, but my goal is to play every game on their original console. ૮₍。´• ˕ •`。₎ა
Since these are games on a disc you need to have the Japanese console to play them. CD are written differently for each region and that's why a foreign model of a console that uses dics can not read discs from Japan.❌
These are all my computer games:
"Toku-uchi Heroes Detective Conan collection" is collection of "educational games", meanig it's more a educational software than a real game.
These little funny games are supposed to teach kids how to use a computer and how to type on a keyboard. Just to clarify, typing on a Japanese keyboard is not the easiest thing to do and even adults struggle with that. This why there are softwares like these on the Japanese market. (๑º口º๑)
To use this software, you need to have a Japanese computer. I have bought a Japanese laptop for that and it works just fine. ⭕ (。•ᴗ-)
As far as I know there are also other educational Conan games on the market. I will have a look out for that in the future. °^°
So that's about every Detective Conan videogame I own. If I have an update I will post it here. Also if you want to see some gameplays you can search for them on YouTube or NicoNicoDouga. °v°👍

You Remind Me of Andromeda - Pt. 1
I’m so so so very excited to finally post this little ficlet for the lovely miss @heart-chime ! She sent in an ask a little while ago that I absolutely fell in love with and of course I had to be super extra, so in addition to the list of headcanons, here’s part one of an accompanying Zim x Reader ficlet - plus the first half of a playlist!
The postcard thing will make more sense in part two~
It wasn’t that you thought astronomy was a totally useless class – it was actually fairly refreshing considering you were a hardcore medical student. But dear god you sometimes just did not have the brain power to remember things. Intensive details about human anatomy? Sure, no problem. The name of one obscure astronomical event that happens only every how many years?
Jesus you weren’t Stephen Hawking.
“Who can tell me which galaxy is the most prominent during autumn?”
Did you even know the names of any other galaxies? Like if Billy Eichner ran up to you in the middle of the street and asked, you were pretty sure you wouldn’t be getting that dollar.
“Andromeda.”
“Thank you, Zim.”
Ah yes, the resident space nerd, who was constantly screwing with the grading curve on quizzes. But even though you rolled your eyes you found yourself smiling. He might have been from another planet but somehow his intelligence was still incredibly attractive despite your expecting it.
Gretchen, your best friend since middle school, elbowed you from her seat with a raise of her perfectly groomed eyebrows. When you shrugged your shoulders at her she tilted her towards Zim, prompting you to quietly ask her again, before she huffed and waved you off and went back to pretending to be taking notes on her laptop. You were pretty sure she was reading an article on astrology. Zodiac compatibilities or whatever.
For a solid five minutes you completely zoned out, staring off in the direction of the whiteboard while students were called up to mark on a drawn map of the current night sky. They were labeling minor constellations according to what could currently be seen within a few degrees of the horizon. Two or three other kids were invested enough to fill out the map, aside from Zim and Dib, who did most of the work.
Dib was a good kid, he came around after he grew up. You weren’t totally savvy as to what happened, but you and Gretchen came back from summer camp one year and he and Zim were joined at the hip – in a good way. After that Gretchen had an absolute glow up and turned into a modern day, purple-haired Aphrodite. And Dib fell hard. It was always so cute watching them fall in love with each other over and over again.
As your thoughts continued to drift so did your eyes, and they fell on the boys at the front of the room, your mind making a passing comment on Dib’s new jacket Gretchen got him for Christmas before landing on Zim.
He’d grown, a lot. He was just a hair under six feet – and nobody ever heard the end of it – and he’d finally ditched the raspberry uniform. It had always looked good on him, like most things did, but human clothes fit him well, even if he was too stubborn to hide the green skin. He hadn’t needed to tell you, you’d figured it out on your own pretty quickly, but even after he came to terms with you knowing he still wouldn’t take your advice on investing in a more practical disguise. That was fine though, he was a really nice shade of green and –
“You’re free to go, just don’t forget you’ve got a quiz due before midnight tomorrow. If anyone needs to speak with me about the final project I’ll be in my office today after three.”
You blinked back to reality, lifting your head off your hand. “Well time really flies when you’re having fun, huh?”
Dib peeked over his shoulder to make sure the teacher wasn’t looking before vaulting over the row of desks in front you to grab his things. “Fun? You looked bored as fuck.”
Zim laughed beside him, tucking away his laptop. “Earth to Dr. Cameron, hello~”
“Oh knock it off, you know that show’s not real,” you chided, matching his cheeky smile with your own. “I was paying attention the entire time.”
Him and Dib both gave you a hard time as you followed them out of the classroom. Gretchen was still making faces at you and nodded her head at Zim without saying anything, and you continued to raise your eyebrows in confusion.
“Oh my god,” she whispered, making the boys turn around curiously. “Hey, why don’t we stop by Starbucks and get coffee? It’s lunch so we should be able to snag a table, clearly somebody needs to study.”
Before you could interject about how you were going to ace that quiz Zim was chanting ‘frappaccino’ and Dib was mimicking an echo behind him. They were so dumb sometimes but god did you love them. Even when they were shuffling out of the building to the beat of a song blaring from Zim’s headphones.
You took Gretchen’s hand and pulled her along, lacing your fingers together so you wouldn’t get pulled apart by the crowd. “Come on, we’re getting left behind.”
She pretended to look around and act confused. “By who? I don’t know them.”
--
The line at Starbucks was backed up to the door, but people were in and out for the lunch rush and Gretchen piled all of your belongings onto a table for keeps where she could watch it from a distance. While the four of you creeped along the snaking rows of students you were grilled on potential quiz material.
“Oh come on, I’m supposed to study first. This isn’t fair –”
“Life isn’t fair, which constellation is the star Vega located in?”
“What? I don’t –”
“Wrong.”
“How many stars make up the big dipper?”
“Oh god, uh…”
“Wrong. What kind of star is Arcturus?”
“Umm, I can’t remember – ”
“Wrong again.”
“Wow you’re gonna fail.”
Gretchen smacked her boyfriend on the arm and glared at him. “Your job is to help, not antagonize.”
Zim waved her off and draped his arm around your shoulders. “Relax, she’ll be fine, I’m easily the most qualified tutor here anyway~”
“Exactly,” you said, wrapping an arm around his waist as you leaned into him with a smile.
You couldn’t see it because Zim was taller than you and you’d have to crane your neck to see his face from this angle. But the other two saw, saw the way his cheeks dusted just a shade darker, his eyes lit up, and the corner of his mouth twitched until his smile was lopsided. You didn’t know his light cough was corrective, but they did.
Gretchen shook her head goodnaturedly. “Yeah, if you say so. Now turn around so that poor barista doesn’t have to yell, she looks like she needs a nap.”
As you fumbled for your phone to pull up your Starbucks app you felt Zim’s arm slide off your shoulder.
“Hey,” he said, pulling his phone out of his back pocket, “could I buy you coffee this time?”
His offer caught you a little off guard, and apparently laughing it off was your brain’s only means at saving face once you felt the butterflies start to collate in your stomach. “Pssht, you just want the extra stars, huh?”
He smiled and your heart melted. “It’s definitely a bonus, but you didn’t say no so I’m running with it.”
If the barista wasn’t currently waving you over you would’ve insisted that he didn’t have to, but his timing was perfect so you let him have this one. Plus your seven extra stars, the mooch. His frappes always got him at least eleven to begin with. “How many until your next freebie?”
He stepped off to the side and looked down at his phone. “Two.”
“Aww, guess I should’ve gotten that venti, huh?”
“Guess so, now I’ll just have to buy you coffee again.”
You know, for being from another planet you shouldn’t be this suave.
After everyone had their coffee - and got a good laugh at Dib’s name spelled ‘Memebrane’ - you all sat down at your table in the back corner. While you and Gretchen pooled your notes to compare the boys took the quiz just to be done with it so they could focus on helping you.
“Alright,” Dib said, pulling out the textbook and slapping it down on the table. “I figured we’d give you a run down of what kinds of things to expect, ask you a few questions to see where you stand, and then devise a plan of attack from there.”
“And then I,” Zim added emphatically, “can make sure you both go home knowing what to study in the interim. Sound good?”
His excitement over the subject always made you smile, and you nodded eagerly.
About forty minutes later you were less than half as eager as you were to start with. The subject matter, again, wasn’t boring, it was just… so different than what your brain was already used to. After the end of an hour and a half Gretchen had to call it quits, asking Zim to just text her a study guide later so she wouldn’t be late to her evening class. And of course, since Dib was such a studious boyfriend, left to walk her himself.
Leaving the two of you alone. Of course.
“You don’t have another class tonight, do you?”
With a solid effort to get your nervous leg to stop bouncing you looked up and shook your head. “No, I just needed to clean some before I went to bed, other than that I’m all yours~”
Zim was in the middle of sipping his frappe before he pulled it away and coughed, trying to hide the blush on his cheeks.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, just a… a really big piece of ice.” He gave one good cough before putting his drink down and away from him. “Where were we?” His voice was a little raspy and it made you smile a little.
You looked down at your notes. “Oh yeah, the sex constellation.”
“Okay now I’m really glad I didn’t have my drink in hand that time.”
“I’m sorry! I don’t remember what it’s called, I just know it’s got a funny name,” you whined, hiding your face in your hands.
“You mean Sextant?”
“Yeah, I mean what even is a… whatever that is?”
He sighed but his smile was genuine and it made your hands start to fidget now that his eyes were on you. “It measures distances for things like altitude.”
“Oh,” you said, sounding very uninterested all of a sudden. “That’s not very exciting.”
“No, not as exciting at the sex constellation I guess,” he laughed.
“Shut up!”
“I’m just teasing,” he said, grabbing your hand when you reached across the tiny table to smack him. “ Besides, now you definitely won’t forget it. So, where’s it at on the map?”
The textbook wasn’t very user friendly when it came to finding the correct chunk of sky map, but once you figured out which one to look at you were able to point it without too much fuss.
“See? Not so hard.”
The conversation was on and off for the next half hour while Zim wrote you up a study guide and let you take one last look over everything before he insisted you’d studied enough and needed to put it down. As you were packing up and finishing off your coffee he offered to walk you back to your dorm.
You blushed just a little, turning your face back to your things. “Oh no, you don’t have to do that. It’s only a few minutes from here.”
“I know,” he said, shouldering his bag. “But it’s getting dark and I’d be an asshole if I didn’t insist, so I’m insisting.”
Well you weren’t going to argue with him, or pass up a chance to let him shower you in chivalry. So you let him walk you home, looping your arm around his while you kept pace with his long strides.
Again, you couldn’t see the helplessly infatuated look on his face, but it was one that even Eliza Schuyler would be proud of. Had you not been around he might have been humming ‘Helpless’ to himself.
The walk was quiet and your thoughts were left to wander, first from your astronomy quiz, to your next bio lab, to thinking you recognized that student you just walked by, to the weird look you got from them because you did recognize them and evidently they were silently congratulating you on your booty call because you never told them you had a boyfriend. In fact you told her the opposite about two weeks ago so now it was weird because you and Zim were not dating - but not that you didn’t want to, and you would, it was just that…
Your brain decided it had had enough of that train of thought, and instead interrupted with an arbitrary ‘what if he asked?’ and then you spiraled into a whole thing that dumped you into your high school memories. That had been a weird time for everyone just in general, but your friend group had gone through some exceptional growing pains.
You were coming to terms with what going through med school was going to entail (which was a lot), Gretchen was in the middle of a huge falling out with both of her parents, Dib was finally clawing his way out of the worst time of his life and going to therapy, and Zim…
Well, he probably had it the worst, and ended up embodying the whole “teenage rebellion” thing to an absurd degree. You remember liking the hair and new jacket, but the rest of it was just so much. The only reason you knew he was pretending to take notes in class while actually writing angry letters to his ex-Tallest (he’d been very particular about that for a while) was because he always looked so angry and eventually one of his teachers sent him to the counselor. After that there was a good week of heart-to-heart sleepovers with everyone because Gretchen insisted.
But by the end of two years things sort of… got better. You had a viable plan of action to get you through med school, Gretchen found a healthy way to be removed from her parents without the animosity, Dib’s therapy had done wonders, and Zim grew up. You remembered it all happening so fast, it was like one day you were all a bunch of edgy kids trying to prove something to the world and the next day you realized you only cared about proving something to yourselves instead.
What a crazy few years.
“What are you thinking about?”
Huh? Oh! You blinked and hummed. “High school.”
“Oh God.”
You laughed and made a face. “What? You didn’t like high school?”
Zim made a little gagging noise. “Ew, no, do you even remember high school?”
“Pfft, yeah I remember that stupid expensive leather jacket you wore.”
“Listen I deserved something nice. It’s not my fault I was impressionable and you humans have terrible coping mechanisms.”
“I’m kidding,” you said, bumping him with your hip as you walked. “But the wig was nice.”
He absently trailed his fingers through his hair, biting his lip to cease the smile that honestly never left him. “Yeah? I kinda thought it was obnoxious actually.”
“You were a rebellious grungy emo boy, of course it was obnoxious. But at least you looked…?” You paused, rolling a few words around on your tongue.
“Normal?”
“Well, not really, but close enough?”
He shrugged. “I’ll take what I can get. Want me to walk you upstairs?”
The two of you had reached your dorm building, a cookie cutter copy of three other buildings just like it. Usually it was pretty lively during the day, but somehow it just felt so foreboding once the sun went down. It was probably the fluorescent street lamps and flickering lights over the front doors. Plus the trees looked a little too lifelike in the dark.
You scrunched your nose. “Yeah, if you wouldn’t mind?”
“Not at all~” He followed you up to the door and waited for you to pull out your student ID, listening for the doors to click once you swiped it across the panel. “There’s a hell of a blind spot over here, I don’t think this camera can - ”
You bristled and pulled the door open. “Don’t tell me that!” you chided, putting your ID away. “There’s enough weirdos around here as it is, I don’t need to know about how bad the security system is.”
Zim laughed and made a face. “My bad. I could fix it though.”
The two of you stopped in front of the elevators and waited for one of the two to come down to the ground floor. “That’s probably illegal.”
“It’s definitely illegal. I’m just saying I could.” He looked up and around at the foyer, sticking his hands in his pockets as a sliver of nervous energy coiled in his stomach. Being around other people was one thing, being totally alone in an enclosed space was a completely different thing. The ‘ding’ made him jump, he was glad you didn’t notice.
As you stepped in and pressed the button for the seventh floor you sighed. “I bet if I took the stairs every day my legs would look great.”
You didn’t see his eyes flick down, or the way his jaw clenched as he bit his tongue, begging himself not to correct you out loud. But what he did say made you look. “You always c-maybe come do the gym with some time - ” He didn’t even really finish before he set his hands on his hips and just stared at the ground.
“Uh,” you tried so hard not to laugh, “What-?”
“You know I’m pretty sure I blacked out for that entire sentence.”
“Did you have a stroke?”
“No idea.”
“Can you even have those?”
“I guess we’ll find out.”
“I hope not,” you said, stepping out of the elevator as it stopped and the doors slid open. “Those are no joke, so you better not die on me.”
He followed you out and around the corner, humming. “Would you miss me?”
“Of course I’d miss you, you’re my best friend.” When you looked up you saw a dopey smile spread across his face. “Aww, see? You do have a heart.” you teased, leaning your head against his arm.
“Who, me?” He rested his hand on your opposite shoulder. “Absolutely not.”
You scoffed. “Liar.”
“Technically, I do not have the biological equivalent of a heart.”
You picked your head up and scowled. “Wait, but when I give you hugs sometimes I hear a rhythmic thumping, so what the fuck is that then?”
He shrugged and smiled. “I dunno, maybe I’ll let you play doctor some day and find out.”
There was a catch in your step as you tripped over what he said. “I - what?”
Suddenly his whole face flushed and both hands flew up to cover his face. “Oh god I’m so sorry, I forgot that was a weird sexual thing for you guys, aaaaahh,” he whined.
You laughed and waved your hand. “Oh no, no I thought you were asking me to like… cut you open or something?”
Zim pulled his hands away just enough to look absolutely horrified at you. “No no, please don’t do that either.”
“I would never let anyone do that to you, ever,” you promised, holding his arm and guiding him along down the hallway. “I was just asking, dummy. I don’t think I could ever pull off the sexy nurse thing anyway so that went right over my head.”
“Well I mean that’s debatable,” he whispered.
You looked up at him. “What?”
“What?”
“Did you just…?”
He stopped in front of your door, his eyes going a bit wide. “Oh I said that out loud didn’t I?”
You blushed, pulling your ID out of your back pocket to open your door. “Don’t worry, I’m flattered~”
He blinked a few times, absolutely mortified at himself. “Uh huh, well I’m going to stop talking and give you a hug now.”
You propped the heavy metal door open with the heel of your foot and leaned in to hug him goodbye. He was always good for hugs, something about being platonically repressed and Irken social norms or whatever, but his were your favorite. He was the perfect height too, you could snuggle right in between his chin and shoulder and wrap your arms all the way around and up his back, nice a flush - those were the best. You always felt yourself linger a little longer than with anyone else, but he didn’t seem to care, and Gretchen was the only one who ever pointed it out. It wasn’t like you were counting the seconds or anything…
“Oh hey~” Speaking of Gretchen.
You pulled away and turned around, tilting your head. “Hey, I thought you had class?”
Gretchen was draped across the couch with her laptop and leftover Starbucks. “Me too, until I got there and realized no one was coming. Wetzle got food poisoning during lunch today so he cancelled last minute. How was studying?” The lilt in her voice always assumed something.
You crossed your arms. “It was productive.”
Her lips twitched. “I’m sure it was~”
When you rolled your eyes and finally said goodnight you saw Gretchen make a beeline for the door before you got to your bedroom, but you didn’t bother to stay within earshot, if you wanted to sleep at all you still had some work to do.
When Gretchen was sure you couldn’t hear she poked her head out through the door. “Hey space nerd, get back here.”
Zim was already halfway down the hall before he groaned and walked back over and leaned against the wall as dramatically as possible. “What?”
Gretchen smiled, raising her eyebrows as her fingers drummed against the doorframe. “Sooo? How’d it go?”
“It was fine.”
“Just fine?”
“Yes, just fine.”
She scoffed and slouched her shoulders. “Oh come on, why can’t you just say something?”
Zim leaned against his arms and pressed his head into the wall, whining. “I don’t want to talk about this.”
“What happened? You bought her coffee, it was cute, what gives?”
He only whined.
“Oh my god Zim, you are such a baby. Just talk to her, it’s not that hard.”
His head raised just enough to scowl at her. “It is hard, because I tried like five minutes ago, and I’m pretty sure I blacked out and had a stroke. This isn’t - stop laughing it isn’t funny!”
Gretchen held a hand up to her mouth and waved. “No no, you’re right, it isn’t funny… it’s fucking hilarious.” When he started to genuinely look hurt she sighed and bumped him on the arm. “Okay okay, I’m sorry, this is hard for you. But - okay so maybe just talking isn’t gonna work for you… clearly. But you’ve got to do something, otherwise it’s gonna be this shitty soap opera type pining after each other bullshit forever and, I’m sorry, but it’s getting real old. Like I’m gagging on it.”
He shoved her goodnaturedly and turned around to slouch against the doorframe next to her. “Okay so talking isn’t working, what else is there? I mean I thought I was being pretty obvious? Unless I’ve totally misread this entire situation, and if I have don’t tell me because my poor soft little heart can’t take it.”
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” she breathed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “That’s the thing though, you are being glaringly obvious, but you don’t seem to understand that that’s not enough. Literally everyone around you gets it, but she doesn’t. That’s the problem, there’s not a whole lot else you can do if you won’t just flat out say, ‘oh hey, by the way, I’ve been in love with you since our senior year of high school, can I take you out for dinner.’ Subtlety goes right over her head, so if you can’t be up front with words, you gotta do something that’s still gonna get the point across.” When he opened his mouth to ask something Gretchen immediately started shaking her head. “No, you can’t just skip straight to the dinner date, she’ll think it’s a friendly thing. She’s… incredibly platonically inclined, you’ve got to spell this shit out.”
Zim groaned and slid halfway down the wall before forcing himself upright. “Okay, fine. You’re the best friend, tell me what’ll get her attention.”
Gretchen pursed her lips, then smiled. “How about you give me my study sheet, then we’ll talk.”
“Oh fuck off.”
“You still owe me a study sheet!”
“Yeah, and you’ll get one, but you don’t have to hold it over my head.”
She waved him off down the hall. “Less arguing, more complying with my demands~”
“Yeah yeah,” he called, shoving his hands in his pockets as he walked back down the hall to leave for good this time. Gretchen was a good friend, and he had all the faith in the world in her… he just hoped whatever advice she had would actually work.
You were too good to let slip away.

Chapter 2
You wouldn’t say that you liked Mondays, but there was something refreshing about the start of a new week. The mad dash to get all of your work done on Sunday night often meant you hit a slump in the afternoon, so to cope with the post-weekend crash you’d created a routine that involved getting a large coffee from the campus coffee cart and finding a nice grassy spot in the quad to settle onto and get a start on your readings for the week. It was small, but it was something that helped get you through the day and gave you something to look forward to. This particular Monday was sunny, but a cool breeze would occasionally blow through and gently tug at your hair as you made your way around campus. You walked towards your usual spot at the base of one of the many trees in the quad and settled yourself against its thick trunk. Across the quad, a group of people were kicking around a soccer ball.
You took a sip of your coffee and pulled out your textbook and notebook and started reading, jotting down important things from the chapter as you read. You’d had 30 minutes of uninterrupted reading time when someone suddenly plopped down beside you.
“Hello Y/N,” grinned Tom, a slight sheen of sweat covering the copious amount of skin he was showing in his muscle shirt. “You didn’t text me, I was worried about you,” he said, taking a pull from his water bottle. As he tilted his head up, you got a clear view of his tight jawline.
“I’m sorry. I’m sure it’s kept you up at night,” you responded. “I thought you didn’t live on campus?”
“I don’t, I was just at the gym,” he said, pointing back at the large rec hall on campus. “I’d just finished when I saw you sitting here, figured I’d pop by and say hello.”
“Well, hello to you too,” You said simply, turning to look back at your book.
“What’re you reading?” He asked. You held up your book higher so he could read the cover, still staring intently at the paragraph you were reading. “Student’s Guide to Cognitive Neuroscience? Sounds hard.”
“Yeah, you really need to pay attention to what you’re reading to get it,” you respond pointedly.
“Oh come on Y/N, you can’t honestly tell me you’d rather read that than speak to me,” Tom laughed.
“Yes, I am honestly telling you that,” you said, mimicking his accent. “I need to read this, we have our first midterm soon.”
“Alright, alright,” Tom said, throwing his hands up in defeat, “I’ll make this quick. Sig Ep’s hosting a fundraising event this weekend. We rented the pool for a night and are gonna put a bunch of inflatables in it and watch Titanic. Sound like something you’d be interested in?”
“So that’s why you came over,” you said, barely managing to refrain from rolling your eyes “You haven’t sold enough tickets yet and need a few more people to come or you’ll get fined. That’s how that works, right?”
“Sweetheart if you don’t think I could sell ten tickets then you don’t know me,” he smirked.
“I don’t know you,” you pointed out. “I met you like, two days ago.”
“Fair enough,” Tom laughed “let’s change that though. Don’t worry about buying a ticket, I’ll put your name on the list,” he said as he stood up and brushed the grass off his pants. “You have my number so if you’ve got any questions you can text me. Or call if you’d like to hear my voice more. I could give you tips for your impressions.”
“Wait I didn’t sa-“
“I’ll see you Friday!” He said before heading off, a smug smile plastered to his face.
-
“Why are boys such idiots?” You asked as you tossed your backpack at the foot of your bed. After your encounter with Tom, you couldn’t focus on your reading so you retreated back to your dorm.
“Because they’re boys,” Amanda said simply. She laid in her bed with her laptop on her chest, watching Criminal Minds on Netflix. “You can’t expect a lot out of them. What happened?”
“This guy, Tom, he’s trying to drag me to the Sig Ep event this weekend. But it’s at the pool and-“
“Wait, Tom as in Sig Ep Tom?” Amanda asked, looking over at you. “Tom “look at me I’ve got perfect hair and a British accent” Tom?”
“I mean, yeah, I guess.” You said, suddenly uneasy. Did he have a reputation you hadn’t heard of? He was probably a serial dater. Going out with girls for a few weeks before leaving them for the next cutie in a crop top. He could be the type. “Why, is he-“
“Oh my God Tom Holland is trying to get you to go to Sink or Swim that’s fucking hilarious.” Amanda laughed before you could finish your question.
“It’s not funny!” You said exasperatedly “I talked to him for like, twenty minutes on Saturday and now he won’t leave me alone.”
“And you’re complaining? The guy’s gorgeous. And British!”
“He’s a Sig Ep, Amanda, you know I hate them. I only go to their parties because of you guys.”
“Honey, listen,” Amanda said, pausing her show and moving her laptop to the side so she could sit up and look you in the eye. “I’m not going to say you need to get over your dislike of Sig Eps. After what Daniel did it’s valid. But you need to make an exception for this guy.”
“Why should I? All he’s done is walk around like he’s the king of campus or something and try and flex his snarky attitude at me,” you say, rolling your eyes. “And I guess he called me an Uber on Saturday but that’s it.”
“Woah woah woah wait, Tom’s the guy from Saturday?” Amanda said, “Uh-uh, you don’t get to say he hasn’t done anything for you when he was literally willing to fight Daniel to defend you.”
“Oh my God, Amanda, he was not defending me!”
“He totally was!”
“Babes!” came a voice from your shared bathroom. You lived in a suite with 3 other girls, your two rooms split by a shared bathroom. You and Amanda were in one room, and Emily and Shannon were in the other. Standing in the doorway of the bathroom was Shannon, a patient smile on her face. “What’re you yelling about? I’m trying to study for my French quiz tomorrow.”
“Tom Holland was Y/N’s savior from Saturday!” Amanda blurted.
“No. Way,” Shannon said, a grin spreading over her face.
“Yeah, and he asked her to go to Sink or Swim!”
“What’d you say!” Shannon asked, taking a seat at your desk.
“I didn’t say anything, he didn’t ask me,” You said, pinching the bridge of your nose “Besides I thought it was just a movie screening. It’s not a couples thing or anything… is it?”
“I mean, no, it’s not a couples thing,” Amanda said, “But how many people do you really think these inflatables can fit?”
“I’m not going,” you said flatly “If there’s anything worse than being surrounded by Sig Eps, it’s being surrounded by Sig Eps in a pool.”
“You could sit in the bleachers. No need to get near the water,” Shannon offered.
“I’m not going,” you repeated, growing frustrated. Your roommates could see your growing tension and backed off. They began talking about their own plans for Sink or Swim before Shannon dismissed herself to go back to studying. Now that the seat was vacated, you sat at your desk and took out your textbook, struggling to pay attention to your reading.
-
“So, saw you talking to a girl today,” Harrison said, spreading some peanut butter on a slice of toast. “Who is she?”
“Just a girl I met at the party on Saturday,” Tom responded, grabbing a protein shake from the fridge. “I only spoke to her for like five minutes, are you stalking me or something?”
“I’m everywhere, mate, you should know this by now. What sorority she in?” Harrison asked.
“I don’t know. She’s friends with some Pi Phi’s apparently.” Tom said. He shook his protein shake and sat down at the frat house’s shared dining table.
Harrison walked over and leaned over the table on his elbows in front of Tom.
“Quit your bullshit, dickhead. Gimme more details,” he said as he took a bite of his toast without breaking eye contact.
“Are you two gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes again?” Jacob asked as he walked in on the scene.
“Tom’s fancying some girl and I wanna know more about her,” Harrison said.
“I don’t fancy her,” Tom said, rolling his eyes.
“You’re certainly making an effort with her,” Harrison said.
“Is it the girl from Saturday?” Jacob asked “Because she was cute,”
“Oh so you tell Jake about her but not me,” Harrison said, acting wounded.
“There’s nothing to tell! I’ve spoken to her like twice, it’s no big deal.”
“So you’re saying you haven’t stalked her Instagram yet?” Jacob asked.
“No, why would I?” Tom shrugged, downing the remainder of his protein shake.
“Because she might have swimsuit pictures on there,” Harrison said, waggling his eyebrows.
“Real mature,” Tom said, rolling his eyes. “I think she’s cute, alright? That’s all there is to that.”
“Is she coming to Sink or Swim?” Harrison asked.
“Hopefully. Bought her a ticket.” Tom shrugged again.
“You don’t usually invest in your hookups,” Jacob pointed out.
“It’s $5 that’s hardly an investment.”
“But it’s something,” Jacob countered.
“You guys are annoying, I’m going to my room.” Tom groaned, leaving the kitchen.
“Remember we have thin walls!” Harrison yelled after him.
Once he got to his room, Tom flopped on his bed and let out a deep breath. It had been a long day, and he still had a lot of homework to get done. Despite this he pulled out his phone and opened Instagram, typing in “Y/N”.
He smirked a little when he saw her profile picture and tapped it, his smirk vanishing when he saw your account was set to private. He was so used to people’s accounts being open and available, he checked to see if he didn’t accidentally try and view your finsta instead. But no, there was only the one private account under your name.
“Mysterious girl…” He mumbled, finally putting his phone down and heading over to his desk to do his work.
AN: I’m taking title suggestions for what to call this series! If you have any ideas you’d like to share I’d love to hear them ^^

okay wait listen
so when my lecture started i started doing revision because i have a quiz at four whilst also listening to the lecture about a topic that doesnt come up in the quiz (boop boop boop stereotypes~!)
i was doing fine, doing revision stuff right but then i got sidetracked. lecturer brought up the big five personalities (OCEAN) so i did an example test and saw it was similar to when i did it a year ago, got annoyed that i had to pay $19 for the full report. to be fair idk how much that is in pounds so in my mind thats twenty quid for a report that can't be taken as a diagnosis. >:| . dont worry lads i didnt buy it.
anyway yea then i remembered i had to update my CV so i did that. checked on this job app thing connected with my uni and saw one of the saved jobs even though i matched with it got some ai computer coding shmickles. so i search up python right to see if theres any guides or courses or whatever i can get for a lower price cause yknow im a uni student who works part time that cant organise for the life of myself and like me and money have an inverse relationship. more happy less money. anywhoosies yeah apparently newer microsoft laptops COME WITH Python, so i check it and I HAVE IT???
So like i opened it and got computing and IT flashbacks but like only visual ones cause that was like 4/5/6 years ago.
and now im here and by the time ive written all this down, the last 15 minutes of my lecture went past and it has just ended. :)
#i got sidetracked so many times#at one point i full on went what the fuck am i doing#cause like i had my phone out connected to the zoom call of my lecture#my laptop in my hand where i was updating my cv and looking at jobs#and then my textbook and my flashcards next to me on the floor where i as revising#oh yeah i was sitting on the floor next to my bed this entire time. even though my work desk is literally four steps away#not even that i can just jump over my bed and im there#idk organized chaos#but it gives me stress#i think at least idk what stress feels like#anyway#shutupsilver#silver the student

No Stupid Questions - Week of February 16, 2017. Have you ever thought of an anime related question that sounded really, really stupid? Did you ignore it and move on because getting the answer wouldn't be worth asking it? Well, this thread is here for you! Stephen Dubner (co-author of the Freakonomics book series) and research psychologist Angela Duckworth (author of Grit) really like to ask people questions, and came to believe there’s no such thing as a stupid one. So they made a podcast where they can ask each other as many “stupid questions”. ' (There's) no such thing as a stupid question' is a popular phrase with a long history. MY STUDY PROCESS
literally from start to finish, the entire process of how I prep for tests and other assessments - this is what works for me but it may not work for you, however it can’t hurt to try new methods, especially if you’re trying to jump up a percentage category in your academics :)
Lecture notes:
I take my laptop with to EVERY SINGLE LECTURE AND TUTORIAL CLASS and this is so important. Yes, your lecturer may upload the class material such as slideshows on your academic portal, but this is NO excuse for skipping your lectures, okay maybe like one a week you’re tired af but don’t make it a habit. The lecturer usually mentions many things in class and adds detail that isn't included in the material they upload online. Not only this, but the lecturer will usually highlight important sections of the work, possible test questions, and will hint at which concepts are more important than others when studying the material. I always take down notes as the lecturer speaks on Microsoft word in bullet point format with subtitles and I note any important announcements, tips, hints or possible test questions at the bottom of the document.
Lecture content (slides etc.):
although most of my notes are formed during lectures, I always go back to the slideshows and documents uploaded on my online portal and work through those as well. Often, I miss many a few points because I am trying to listen to the lecturer speak and so there are always additional points made in the slideshows that were presented in lectures that I jot down in my lecture notes.
Textbook content:
I go back to my textbook and look for any additional and important content which wasn’t mentioned in class, but still seems like a vital concept or detail to understand. I do this according to my course prospectus/ guide, which includes exactly what pages are for compulsory reading, and which paragraphs to focus on. You should be able to find such a guide on your university website or academic portal, and if you have trouble finding it, email your lecturer or departmental secretary on where to find the document.
Case law/ articles and legislation (only applies for law students):
Once I finish a subsection or chapter of my work, I print and read the case law relating thereto so that the concept that the case is covering is still fresh in my mind as the most recent concept I revised and studied.
Course prospectus/ guide check:
After I am sure that I have covered most of the work, I check back to my course guideline/ prospectus to see if I have missed anything. Often times, I find I have to read a small case or piece legislation I forgot about, or I skipped a couple of pages in my textbook that are pretty important.
Printing and filing:
I print out my study notes from Microsoft word, which now include notes I made in the lecture period, notes taken from the powerpoint slides uploaded onto my academic portal, notes from the textbook, and case summaries and legislation. I also print the slideshows that the lecturer uploads online (6 slides per page) as these often contain only the most important concepts and are a great guide for what areas to focus on. I file every module in a separate lever arch file. First I print the course guideline/ prospectus, staple it together, and highlight the relevant stuff; this goes at the front of the file. Next I print my own notes that I made, staple these and add them in. After that, I print all of the lecture notes and staple them per section/ chapter so that they stay organised. I then print out any old papers/ worksheets I could find which I intend on practising in preparation for the test. After this I file in all of the printed out cases and legislation. Right at the back, I file old test papers and assignments which I have completed already, as they often add in good insight, should I need to refer back to it later for answers.
Memorising:
I start off with the slideshows. I highlight all of the important point and I memorise the slide shows off by heart, by repeating them, reading them to myself, and then covering the slideshow to see if I can remember it without looking. Once I can do it 3 times without looking, I know that I can move on to memorising the next section of the slide show. It’s important to also UNDERSTAND the concept before you start to memorise it, it doesn’t help parrot-learning without knowing what you are actually trying to grasp. Once I have done this, I read extensively through my own typed-up notes, as they contain more detail, so it’s easier for me to slot in the small details onto a concept I already have fully memorised. I then memorise my case law/ legislation by only remembering the important points (legal question, case name, outcome, obiter dicta) and then I read through them thoroughly to again grasp the smaller details.
Past papers:
I obtain past papers for my course by asking/ buying from older students, emailing the lecturers VERY NICELY and scouring the internet for possible sources. Once I have 2 or 3 papers, and I have grasped and memorised each concept I do the practice questions and the ones I get wrong, I do until I get right by using the memo and my notes while marking them. The point is to try answer them without looking at your notes, as this is how you would usually answer a test, unless it is of course ‘open-book’.
Before the test:
The day of, I never study because I see this as cramming, and it makes me nervous and confused. I only read through my typed out notes and case summaries a few times, about half an hour before the test starts, just to jog my memory and store important names and concepts in my short-term memory bank. Try avoid those annoying people before the test who desperately want to discuss concepts of quiz you in an effort to cram and make up for their own slack habits of not studying enough, it will just confuse the both of you, and it isn’t fair for some random to confuse you right before a test you worked so hard for!
If you have any more questions regarding study methods, specifically regarding law or humanities subjects, do not be afraid to inbox me or send me an ask, I will be MORE than happy to help out a fellow student :)

First Year Med Tips
What’s a more pleasing way to start again than posting something quite relevant to the community right? (hahaha)
Anyway, are you an incoming first year med student? or do you have any plans to enter med school soon? well, you might have stumbled on the right post (lol, not really, but humor me please? hahaha)
To start off, I wanted to post something like this because I know how much of a stress it is to start into something without any idea on what’s totally going on. And because I was once in your shoes, struggling to have any some sort of information on what med school really is and just plain tips or advice from someone.
Disclaimer: I may have passed my first year but it doesn’t mean that I’m in the top 10 of my batch. I’m just your regular struggling med student and in no way a genius (like some of my classmates) but I could offer you some advice or tips to cope up with med school here in the Philippines as an incoming first year student and to show you a glimpse on what to really expect.
First Year Subjects:
Basic Biomedical Sciences
Gross Anatomy
Bring your reference book for your dissection just so you wouldn’t get lost along the way. I highly recommend Netter’s as an amazing reference. Also, if you can, invest in a 100 pcs glove box for your group, as well as masks it would be less a hassle to buy one every session (trust me, saves you more time to work ahead at the laboratory). Label your materials (it will be used for the whole year, label them so that they would not get lost and for you not to buy another one when you lost your scalpel or etc.)
Histology
Read in advance your laboratory exercise, it will be helpful for you. It would also guide you on what slides you’ll take. Research ahead on what the slides look like so you’ll have an idea on what to label and draw ahead. Don’t forget to bring your coloring materials. Color pencils, highlighters, fine liners help a lot in making sure your drawings look good.
Basic Neurosciences
Be familiar with everything, during laboratory, make sure that you know where the gyrus and sulcus are. Don’t forget to take a photo of everything and label on them.
Phyisology
If you’re a visual and audio learner like me, it would be helpful for you to search up some videos in the internet after a lecture. NinjaNerd is a very helpful reference for your physio topics. (istg!! I owe 50% of my learnings from him)
Embryology
If you go to the same school as me, read on the chapter summary. It will help you have a general idea about it. Reading the whole chapter helps you familiarize but the summary is enough.
Basic Radiology
Review the powerpoint slides by your lecturers! Take some time to actually read and review them not just during your exams, this will help you a lot since they are mostly diagrams and scans.
Family and Community Medicine 1
- Go to class. Don’t take this for granted. The subject is really nice to keep you grounded on what are really the main issues in the community that are related to health. It will help you appreciate the work of a family and community physician. You will be mostly doing paper works in this so team up with classmates who are actually hardworking and that helps you in work load.
Patient-Doctor Relations 1
- This is actually super fun. You get to have your first hospital exposure but only at the out-patient department. You will be taught on how to take a patient’s history. And if you are a socially awkward person like me (whose premed is biology and have no background on this) try to observe your classmates (especially the nurses) and if possible ask help if you have any difficulty. It will only be difficult at the first try but once you get the hang of it then you’ll be able to ace it. It’s not always that you get to take a patient’s history tho, it would only be 2-4 times this year, but hey it’s still good practice right? Try to follow the format given by your professor and do not just rely on your classmate’s history taking, make it your own so you’ll know how to make one.
1. Don’t be absent. Attendance in college may not be a huge deal for some universities but in med school? it is HUGE. (at least in my school) Attendance is checked every activity and every lecture (trust me, I was the class beadle). The reason why I tell you this is that, it will help a lot on your image to your professors. It shows that you are serious enough to attend your classes. (Even if you think you’ve covered this topic in your undergrad, still attend your classes, you’ll never know what things will your lecturer emphasize and possibly where he/she get questions for your exams)
2. Take notes. Lectures in Med school usually span for 1.5-3 hours depending on what the topic is all about. To keep yourself awake, one tip would be to take down notes, (may it be in pen or paper / electronically with your ipad or laptop!) trust me, it will help you during finals or exams to know what were the things emphasized by your lecturer.
3. Participate and Perform in Laboratories. Most of the subjects under BBS have laboratories (except for embryology). Try to make sure that you know every exercise and that you would not waste your laboratory period. This is because this will help you during your OSCEs or your Objective Structured Clinical Examinations.
4. Make your Small Group Discussions interactive. Use visual aids, like powerpoints, flashcards, quiz bowls, etc. Some facilitators may not be the fun type but most of the facilitators would appreciate on you simplifying the topic for your groupmates (BUT please make sure not to skip on important details).
5. Plot your school activities and exams. Med School is very fast paced, you tend to have long quizzes every monday and sometimes it gets really draining. That’s why I highly suggest to take note and plot in your calendar when will your bimonthlies start, this would give you an idea on how many days there is left before you start reviewing for it.
6. Always take a photo and label! I’ve said this once, and I will say it again. Don’t be a lazy ass (like me, who only do this when I feel like it TT) This is applicable to your laboratories, especially in histology and anatomy. When you have your lab exercise, always make sure that you get the slide that your teacher emphasized, have a photo of every slide and label it on that night. trust me. this will help you in your practical exams. And don’t forget to ask for help especially to your professors and classmates.
7. Find an outlet. It would get really suffocating at times when you are bombed with all these school works. And so I suggest to find an outlet, go to the gym, watch a youtube video or two every once in a while. So that you wouldn’t feel too choked by all these academic stress.
8. Keep all your notes by Bimonthly. Trust me on this, buy a big envelope and place all your notes and transes once the bimonthlies are over. This would really help you for finals so that you wouln’t be looking for all your scattered notes and print them again. Save the environment.
9. You don’t need to buy all your books. If you know someone from the upperclassmen, ask for a pdf copy of your books. The books really cost around 3-5,000 pesos each and it would be a pain in your wallet or parent’s wallet. (Or if you can afford it then it’s also alright with me tho hehe) But for me, you don’t really need to buy all of them, if you don’t want to. Befriend an upper classmen or two then ask for a pdf.
10. You are not alone. (oooh scary jk but you get me right?) You are still at an adjusting phase. First year brings a shock to most people on how med school really works. And I guess a good advice that I could tell you is that you are not alone. Your classmates and friends are also going through this. Everyone is struggling in med school (I still am) and that’s ok. You’ll find your groove soon enough (hopefully me too). Don’t be in a rush and don’t pressure yourself too much, just take things one day at a time. One task at a time. There will be days that you feel so bad that you don’t want to do anything and that’s ok, find someone to talk to, vent out what your feeling, contact your mentor, go to the gym, bake a cake, then move on. Make your bad day into good.
I’m not sure if these are enough but if you do have any questions feel free to dm me. And don’t forget that you are still a work in progress. Things will get really rough and that is because you are growing to become a skilled and good physician. If you’re not struggling then maybe you’re not really learning? (lol what? hahahaha idk) but really, just trust the process. You can do it! I believe in you!

“Telling” Asks
Because I’m relaxing today and I’ve never answered some of these before.
From: https://beyondthetemples-ooc.tumblr.com/post/185158056997/weird-asks-that-say-a-lot
--
1. coffee mugs, teacups, wine glasses, water bottles, or soda cans? Teacups would be ideal, but the reality is more water bottles.
2. chocolate bars or lollipops? Honestly? Neither. (Unless it's a really good chocolate bar, like 85% dark, or Cadbury's~)
3. bubblegum or cotton candy? Both are too sweet for me. (Though, maybe once a year, I'll indulge in one of each.)
5. do you prefer to drink soda from soda cans, soda bottles, plastic cups or glass cups? Bottles, if it's not soda! (Good for multi-tasking and not spilling!) But otherwise, glass cups. Unless the plastic ones are really pretty or have a very nice grippy shape to them.
6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear? Oh always goth, all the way. Technically a more "formal" goth (romantigoth is the label i'd choose if i HAD to pick one),
7. earbuds or headphones? That depends. When I'm active, or when it's hot outside? Earbuds. But when travelling, trying to work in a loud environment, or generally needing sound cancellation: definitely headphones.
8. movies or tv shows? Oh, that REALLY depends on the content. Movies are easier on the ADD, and most TV shows are paced TERRIBLY in the long-running format, but then there's, like... cartoons, basically, that have satisfying stories in each episode AND a great overarching plot.
9. favorite smell in the summer? Pre-Thunderstorm Static.
10. game you were best at in p.e.? I wasn't the best at ANY game in PE... ;P Honestly, my best "game" was probably....... tag, but the kind where they're running away from you as a form of bullying, so you just embrace it and "touch" them just to mess with them.
11. what you have for breakfast on an average day? I don't. (I don't feel hungry most mornings.) "First lunch" is usually a piece of fruit and maybe a granola bar.
12. name of your favorite playlist? I don't do "playlists", I do "play every album by this artist in chronological order"! But I guess my Epica and Evanescence stations on Pandora come pretty close, huh?
13. lanyard or key ring? Neither actually; I use those bungee-like things you can stretch to hold my things. I literally attach my wallet to my bag's handle with those so I don't lose it.
14. favorite non-chocolate candy? Peppermint? Candied ginger? Do s'mores count?~
15. favorite book you read as a school assignment? Oh DAMN that's hard... Let's see. If AR Summer Reading projects count: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire? The Invisible Thread (by Yoshiko Uchida)? Fahrenheit 451? And if those don't count, maybe The Scarlet Letter (by Hawthorne, of course).
16. most comfortable position to sit in? Your classic lotus position. I'm essentially in it right now.
17. most frequently worn pair of shoes? Work shoes, but outside of work? Black flip flops.
18. ideal weather? Realistically: 65, light breeze, and lots of clouds with a little rain. But my absolute FAVORITE weather was something I've only ever seen ONCE, and that was a thunderstorm in the middle of a snowstorm. It was incredible and the image of lightning against the snowfall is forever seared into the core of my soul as one of the most gorgeous things I've ever experienced.
19. sleeping position? Varies night by night. Safe to call it a general Flop.
20. preferred place to write (i.e., in a note book, on your laptop, sketchpad, post-it notes, etc.)? It depends on the draft! First drafts are best done for me in notebooks (usually, unless it's a scene with No Chronology Yet, it's in the notebook meant for the story)! But also, anything that's on hand whenever a new scene strikes me works too. I've written on napkins, calendar pages, doctor notes, and Greyhound bus tickets.
21. obsession from childhood? Ooh, Teen Titans, still to this day!
22. role model? ...Rrrraven? (And/or, my Actual Mentors. But it's very much a "don't be me, just let us try to teach you some things so you can be the Best You".)
23. strange habits? ...oh gods, where do I even begin. I meditate and practice energy work on the daily. I touch things almost any time I'm walking anywhere, like just reach my hands out a little and touch whatever's closest. I tend to ask a lot of questions when I'm talking to someone, lots of "why is that". I compulsively read Every Single Ingredient on every box I buy and research anything I'm not familiar with. Does taking like 15 pills and vitamins every day count? And also my "nesting" behavior, any time I'm somewhere I feel it's not rude to re-arrange, I grab pillows and blankets for support.
24. favorite crystal? Damnit, all my favorite stones are actually not "crystals"?! But crystalline azurite is close enough. (It kind of depends on the day and what energy I'm looking for. Stone/crystal work is another one of those weird habits. ;P )
25. first song you remember hearing? The "Arthur" themsong. I remember going to my mother and being like, "They said A! A is a letter!" And it wasn't for another, like, 3-5 years that I'd realize, they're saying "hey", not "A".
26. favorite activity to do in warm weather? Stay inside. (Anything that counts as "warm" rather than "cool" is too warm for me....) But if I had to pick ONE thing, definitely swimming, in a lake (because I have a mild chlorine allergy).
27. favorite activity to do in cold weather? ALL of them! Just being outside as long as it's not too sunny! Hiking, meditating, I used to do all my spiritual rituals outside, reading, walking, hell even at work when we have dogs to take on walks, I love walking in the park with them. Being outside when it's snowing. And then curling up in my room, on my soft bed, with a cup of tea and a book (or a great fanfic) after...
28. five songs to describe you? Teen Titans themesong, Bakura's Theme, What's the Use of Feeling (Blue) 1. End of the Dream, by Evanescence [ x ] 2. My Demons, by Starset [ x ] 3. Underneath, by Tarja [ x ] 4. Paradise (What About Us), Within Temptation ft. Tarja [ x ] 5. Reality Fringe, by Alex Dalliance
29. best way to bond with you? Talking, communicating, while respecting boundaries, with patience and sincerity.
30. places that you find sacred? Honestly, the biggest answers are a part of the Nexus and I don't think I'm ready to talk about that here;; Let's just say, astral adventures have gotten wild enough that my spirit guide and I have meeting places that are sacred, my leader-goddess has shown me a few places, and there are some "places" within my own mindscape that are sacred enough.
31. what outfit do you wear to kick ass and take names? Oh honey, that depends entirely on my mood. And the situation. I have multiple cloaks, some closet cosplays, I wear skirts every day, business jackets, and I can mix and match them however I please. It REALLY depends on whose ass I'm kicking.
32. top five favorite vines? I know I really like Thomas Sanders? But specifics-- Oh. Oh crap, wait I have to visit my vines tag to remember my favorites. DEFINITELY "This bitch empty. YEET" because I didn't know the vine OR exclamation before I saw a fanart that had me DYING OF LAUGHTER, thinking someone just made Blue Diamond yell the word "YEET" for no reason. "FREE-shuh-VAH-cuhdu" makes me die every time. "There's only one thing worse... A CHILD" is TOP QUALITY, genuinely hits at least 3 critical notes of my sense of humor. I love the one with the guys playing the piano (I don't know what genre but it's old-school and chill) and the guy comes in and starts club dancing to it. And the umbrella one with, "Run".
33. most used phrase in your phone? ...probably "if you want"?
34. advertisements you have stuck in your head? I haven't seen an ad in literally years. (get uBlock Origin, it works way better than adblock! also, i don't Internet on my phone.)
35. average time you fall asleep? 11pm? (Work nights: 9-10:30, depending on my exhaustion levels. Not work nights? 1-3am.)
36. what is the first meme you remember ever seeing? The actual LOLcats website!
37. suitcase or duffel bag? Neither; I actually use a mid-sized messenger bag and only use Personal Item Sized Bags for airplane trips. Free baggage, y'all. ;P
38. lemonade or tea? Oh tea, definitely tea. (Unless it's too-sweet iced black tea; then that watermelon mint lemonade wins.)
39. lemon cake or lemon meringue pie? Iiii actually can hardly eat either one, but Starbucks' lemon loafs were addictive (but really bad for my system) and I do love lemon meringue flavored things~
40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school? M e . (I did weird shit like practice reading auras, accidentally warp the moodscape of everyone around me, and get an A on a pop quiz the teacher didn't lecture about for more than five minutes.)
41. last person you texted? An old high school friend I recently reconnected with.
42. jacket pockets or pants pockets? Jacket, since I don't wear pants (unless work forces me to, ew).
43. hoodie, leather jacket, cardigan, jean jacket or bomber jacket? I have no idea what differentiates them. =w=;; Cardigan probably, because I know they have really long flowy elegant ones I like to wear sometimes.
44. favorite scent for soap? ...ooh, that's tough... Lavender's always a good bet, rosemary-mint was a delight, I cucumber-eucalyptus was nice, and I have no idea what scent it was, but a local soap-maker at the farmer's market in the city I lived in for a couple years had this one that was made with, like, honey and red clay, and it felt AMAZING.
45. which genre: sci-fi, fantasy or superhero? Damnit, don't make me CHOOSE like this! I mean, for writing obviously Superhero because I write fanfics like hell for that genre, but I guess my Pokemon fanfics count as fantasy? And, come to think of it, most of my stories center around metaphysical weirdness is some way or other, so... straddling the line between fantasy and superhero.
46. most comfortable outfit to sleep in? Nudity.
47. favorite type of cheese? ...provolone maybe? ??
48. if you were a fruit, what kind would you be? Pomegranate, probably. Gotta do some work to get to the good stuff, strangely unavailable most of the time, and once you get past all the drawbacks, it's just absolutely loaded with compartmentalized goodness.
49. what saying or quote do you live by? Bold of you to assume I only have one quote! Here's just a small sampling. ~ "Don't you want to feel? Don't you want to live your life? How much longer are you gonna give into the fear?" -Disappear, by Evanescence. ~ "Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night." -Edgar Allen Poe ~ "Be yourself, everyone else is already taken." -Oscar Wilde ~ "Guilt is a powerful motivator. Redemption, even greater." -The Unforgiving, by Within Temptation et al. "When you know in your soul who you are, you can never be corrupted again." -Raven, from the Games graphic novel. + Various quotes from my organization, along the lines of things like "Any Tom, Dick, or Harry can do your job, but only you can be there for your friends, family, and accomplish your dreams", and "When you understand WHY we do what we do, WHAT we do makes more sense".
50. what made you laugh the hardest you ever have? My girlfriend? Most of those vines I mentioned? "OH TITS IT CAN FLY"?
51. current stresses? j o b
52. favorite font? Arial, simple yet elegant. Easy to read. I write all my stories in Arial, so I'm biased. l3
53. what is the current state of your hands? They're in Ohio with the rest of me? 8F No, but seriously, lowkey aching a bit around the finger joints from constantly dragging dogs around for a whopping 60 hours this week, but they're not burned and there's only one Tiny cut I got at work, and I still don't know why, but that's almost gone already. I like my fingernails too, they've been breaking at the corners lately but they're still Decently Long.
54. what did you learn from your first job? "Turn tables" are not, in fact, the name of a band, but an item of musical arrangement. (I worked at the Exchange and someone asked if we had anything like the turn tables. I thought they meant musically similar to a band named Turn Tables.)
55. favorite fairy tale? Does the epic poetry of the Kalevala story count? (Finland's national epic!) But I'm not a big fan of the Grimm style fairy tales.
56. favorite tradition? Going to Evanescence concerts at every single available opportunity? Wearing a bracelet my gf gave me and a ring my mother gave me any time I travel? I'm not one much for Generational Tradition at all, I do kinda like forming my own though~
57. the three biggest struggles you’ve overcome? Literally just, myself. 1. Overcoming my doubt in myself. 2. Overcoming my social anxiety re: Starting Conversations. 3. Overcoming my phobia so I could, you know. Eat food.
58. four talents you’re proud of having? ?! How do you even define what constitutes a "talent"? 1. WRITING! (Creativity re: characters and the plots they're in. Descriptive writing. My mother always acts blown away whenever she reads my writing re: "how you get into the character's head".) 2. I can speak very eloquently and articulately, most of the time. And not just via verbiage; I know how to say things that Matter. 3. I can cook a fantastic stir-fry! And, apparently, really good soup. 4. I'm proud of my (non-numerical) eidetic memory, sometimes. It's kinda just There, and I'm not, like, ACTIVELY proud of it, but it sure makes things easier re: remembering friends' triggers, fandom trivia, etc.
59. if you were a video game character, what would your catchphrase be? What makes you think I don't create each response on demand? (There's... really not something I think I say often enough to count as a catch phrase. So I legitimately have no idea.)
60. if you were a character in an anime, what kind of anime would you want it to be? Is "dark magical girl anime" a thing? Because that'd be MY thing.
61. favorite line you heard from a book/movie/tv show/etc.? See above quotes.
62. seven characters you relate to? 1. R A VE N that's it that's the list Theeee only other ones I relate to are kinda awkward answers to give for this (re Synpathy and such related topics), but then again there's hella sympathy for Raven too, so.... 2. Ryou Bakura 3. Blue Diamond 4. Lapis Lazuli 5. Malachite (it's Complicated) 6. Sucy 7. Crona
63. five songs that would play in your club? Just insert any five Alex Dalliance songs here, I don't listen to a whole lot of Club Style Music. (Unless.... does, like, Cascada and Caramel count? Because I still kinda like their styles.) My "club" would be more like orchestrals by Danny Elfman and Evanescence instrumentals and/or live music from local rock bands.
64. favorite website from your childhood? TitansGo.Net! Screenshots, transcripts, even the forums... I browsed that site on the daily.
65. any permanent scars? Oh boy, are you sure you're ready for this? My scars fade quickly, but you'll see them if you know what to look for. One on my forearm from when I fell off a bed onto a broken fan grate at age 5 (it's a 3-inch long gash), on my left pointer finger from being bitten by an angry rabbit, scars on my heels from my comic!Raven cosplay shoes, scar on my right hip from using rubber cement to attach a scar prosthetic for a Kary cosplay (at my supposedly practical-effects-knowledgeable father's advice-- not good advice at all, for the record, don't put that shit anywhere NEAR your skin), tiny spot on my right hand from the time I became too emotional at my girlfriend's house and scraped it on her carpet, tiny dot on my left shoulder from a protruding nail in an old (pavillon without a roof thing?) we once had in the backyard, tiny line on my right ring finger from the time Belle nearly fell from right next to me and I caught her (she tried to grab something and wound up scratching me), and a scar on my right elbow from cleaning the tortilla press at Chipotle. (They didn't tell me there were protective gloves to use. They really should've told me that.)
66. favorite flower(s)? Oh gosh, I don't know. I like almost all flowers, really. I love the scent of lilac and magnolia in the air. Rose and hibiscus make lovely teas. Seeing mint and lemon balm in bloom always makes me feel contented. Willow and basswood flowers remind me of happy childhood memories at the nature reserve. Pink hibiscus flowers have Very Special Meaning to me (for the other blog, really). And of course, flowers with energy or aromatherapeutic effects like lavender are favorites, too.
67. good luck charms? Look, I don't NEED good luck.~ Confidence, strategy, and being alright with whatever happens are my "good luck charms". (And throwing a little magic at it never hurts when I REALLY want something...)
68. worst flavor of any food or drink you’ve ever tried? ....I'm not comfortable answering that (phobia memories, just not gonna think about that okay.)
69. a fun fact that you don’t know how you learned? ...Remember that eidetic memory I was talking about? Every single little tiny fact I'm thinking about, I can remember how I learned about it.
70. left or right handed? Ambi, actually! 55% right. 45% left.
71. least favorite pattern? That depends on what it's for. Wallpapers? Floral (it kills my ADD, but floral patterns can make some very pretty dresses and blankets). Furniture? Paisley (but some people rock it in clothes). Furniture? any kind of fur trim (but again, it looks good on clothes). Clothing on me? Leopard and zebra (but I like it on lots of other things). My room? Checkered and tartan (but again, good patterns for other things, esp. clothing and interior styles that AREN'T associated with my room in particular, my room's just so noncomforming and cluttered that Busy Patterns like that aren't). I guess overall I'm just not a fan of highly stripey or square-y patterns?
72. worst subject? Math. Always has been. Probably always will be.
73. favorite weird flavor combo? The weirdest and actually not the grossest I tried was, out of curiosity to see what Tamaranian food might ACTUALLY taste like, I mixed sushi with ice cream. It really wasn't that bad! That one's my favorite for fandom reasons. 8P I don't do a whole lot of "weird" flavor combos otherwise.
74. at what pain level out of ten (1 through 10) do you have to be at before you take an advil or ibuprofen? (Those... those are the same thing, buddy.) 8 or 9. NSAIDs, especially naproxen and ibuprofen, really irritate my stomach, so it has to be worth a week or two of Lowkey Constant Nausea to take it. For example, the last time I was waking it, I had dry socket. You know, that thing that happens when you get a tooth extracted and the blood clot doesn't form, so YOUR ACTUAL BONE IS EXPOSED for two FUCKING weeks..... and before the dental stuff, I would only take it when Monthly Stuff would get so bad, it could leave my crippled and crying on the bathroom floor for an hour. (Might've been longer if stepmom hadn't gotten me n0aproxen.....)
75. when did you lose your first tooth? Hell if I know what age that was, I think I swallowed it.
76. what’s your favorite potato food (i.e. tater tots, baked potatoes, fries, chips, etc.)? Potato soup, especially my mother's! But I also like BAKED fries (actually fried fries tend to be... Really Badly Received by my system;;), kettle chips are pretty good in small amounts, and I love those criss-cross cut fries at Mr. Hero (I just can't eat more than, like, five at a time, guh).
77. best plant to grow on a windowsill? I absolutely LOVED having my lemon balm. But it got the aerial blight from my peace lily, and it died with all the rest of my houseplants. :c
78. coffee from a gas station or sushi from a grocery store? Sushi from a grocery store, just because this place called Giant Eagle makes some fairly good sushi for like $5 on certain days of the week, and I think they make it every 3-4 days. Fresh, like you can see them making it right in front of you.
79. which looks better, your school id photo or your driver’s license photo? My passport is actually my best, I think~ Though my college ID didn't look bad, either.
80. earth tones or jewel tones? Depends on what they're for. Clothes, I guess jewel tones because I like blue and purple. But for interior decorations, earth tones like deep rich browns and black are my go-to.
81. fireflies or lightning bugs? They're.. the same thing? ??? I've used both interchangeably.
82. pc or console? PC, mostly because that's all I've had most of my life, and of course DC Universe Online was on my PC so maybe I'm biased. 8F
83. writing or drawing? Oooh, writing for me, all the way~ (Though I gotta do SOME drawing now and again!)
84. podcasts or talk radio? Neither, they're both too long for my ADD. And I don't... really care about most people on them? The only one I've ever seen was Amy Lee on short talk show interviews and the Steven Universe podcast with MKAtwood of course.
84. barbie or polly pocket? Neither. (I had both. Played with Polly Pocket because it came with a lot more animals, but those got lost way too easily, and I never got into the Barbie.)
85. fairy tales or mythology? They're both equally important and equally fascinating! Mythology has more Spiritual Resonance, and fairy tales have more Societal Resonance.
86. cookies or cupcakes? Depends on what kind! Oatmeal raisin cookies beat chocolate cupcakes, but red velvet cupcakes with a cream cheese frosting beat chocolate chip cookies.
87. your greatest fear? I have emet*phobia. You can look up what that means yourself because I don't even want to type the word, thanks.
88. your greatest wish? Just, freedom.
89. who would you put before everyone else? Damn it, I'm too compassionate for that answer. Whoever needs it more at that very moment.
90. luckiest mistake? Being so antisocial that the people running the ALP program made me sit with my girlfriend. I asked "Do you like Teen Titans?", and the rest is history.
91. boxes or bags? Boxes for long-term storage, bags for the daily.
92. lamps, overhead lights, sunlight or fairy lights? Lamps, generally. Candles trump them all, but LED lamps are a lot less fire-hazard-y when you might fall asleep. lD;;
93. nicknames? RHS, RWT, Shadow, Zira (means "Shadow"), closest friends call me Rae.
94. favorite season? Winter~ It's the kindest to my easily-overheated sensibilities.
95. favorite app on your phone? Prooobably the voicemail app my or/ganization uses? I don't do much else on my phone besides, you know. Phone stuff (talk/text).
96. desktop background? PC: A shot of Raven meditating in the forest from Justice League vs. Teen Titans, with the incense and glow and her head bowed and focused and everything. Laptop: The sky as Lapis looked up at it, the gorgeous Homeworld constellation from "Ocean Gem".
97. how many phone numbers do you have memorized? Three. Mine, my girlfriend's, and only because she had the same phone number since I was like 8 years old, my stepmother's. Everyone else's keeps changing.
98. favorite historical era? The answer I want to give is Nexus-related, but I don’t think I have a real favorite era. I know too much about the history of misogyny, racism, colonialism, variation between eras around the world, and generally fucked-up shit in every era I've ever learned about.

Build a Rock Solid Marketing Foundation
The success of your real estate business depends on how well your online marketing funnel attracts new home buyers. 44% of all home buyers and 99% of Millennials go to the Internet first when finding properties for sale. As a realtor, you need a professional website if you expect to increase revenue over time.
Home buyers expect quality as they search for homes and the realtor that best fits their needs. Your website should showcase your property listings, brand and expertise. Tools that help you stand out include:
Branded messaging and images
Responsive design
IDX integration
Blog content
Lead capture landing pages
Area pages
Your brand provides site visitors immediate understanding about who you are, your expertise and how you’re positioned to help them. A responsive realtor website means your pages show perfectly no matter what type of device (desktop, laptop, tablet or cell phone) your prospects use when accessing your content.
IDX stands for Internet Data Exchange. As a member of a multiple listing service (MLS), you gain the ability to pull your listings into your IDX integrated website. High-quality images are key to standing out and providing prospects a clear picture of what life looks like once they purchase a home from you.
Let’s take a look at how to combine your website with innovative real estate marketing methods in order to capture new leads and generate home sales.
17 Outside-The-Box Real Estate Marketing Ideas
1. Publish a local market quiz on your real estate website.
If you’ve ever checked out BuzzFeed before, then you know people like to take quizzes on just about any subject. Test your audience with a short, multiple-choice quiz on something of interest. See if they know things like which famous people grew up in the area and tidbits about your town’s history. The questions or topics can even be created around broader subjects unrelated to your market, like music, movies, or some other facet of pop culture.
If you want to be the ultimate resource for your leads, however, a thought-provoking quiz on the ins and outs of buying or selling a home, like the one below from Kevin Ho and Jonathan McNarry of San Francisco-based Vanguard Properties, could be your ticket to gaining their confidence.
Think of these quick exams as one of those real estate marketing tools to use once in a while — perhaps as part of your email marketing campaign. You could even create a contest around the quiz: Require those who take it to fill out a lead capture form at the end and give the winner a gift card to a local restaurant or cafe.
2. Offer Home Valuations to Capture Seller Leads
Potential sellers want to know how much their home is worth. Integrate a home valuation tool into your website and capture seller leads.
Here is an example of what this might look like on your site:
Once your visitor enters their address, they’re prompted to provide their email address and other information in order to view their home valuation report. After they provide this information, you have a new seller lead to contact.
Even if they refuse to sign up through email, you can follow-up through regular mail because your home valuation software has already captured the physical address.
3. Film an explainer video that goes into detail about your agency.
Differentiate your business from other agents in your market with real estate explainer videos. Don a black turtleneck and explain your services as if you were Steve Jobs (rest in peace). Pretend to be a political candidate and pitch people on why you’re the right person for the job. Heck, even take a page out of the “Arrested Development” playbook and mock those awful 1-800 lawyer commercials.
youtube
These videos are traditionally meant to be serious, as they relay your value proposition and what makes your agency successful and worth hiring. But as noted, personality plays a big role in the decision-making of buyers and sellers, so have some fun while still getting across the info that’s essential for consumers to know about your brand.
4. Provide a complimentary moving truck
This is a unique way to stand out in your local market. Invest in a moving truck with your branding on the side. Offer it to your clients after they purchase or sell their home. Your business benefits from additional branding and advertising every time your clients put the truck to use.
Get creative when clients don’t need your moving truck. Take it to home shows. Park it in parts of town that benefit you with high volumes of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
5. Answer buyer/seller questions on your blog
An effective way to get ideas for blog content is to identify questions your target market is asking. Two tools help you find these lists of questions:
Answer The Public
People Also Ask
Answer The Public is a free tool that generates a list of questions based on your keyword search. For example, if you type in “los angeles homes”, the questions received from this search may include:
Should I buy a los angeles home?
How much is it to buy a los angeles home?
People Also Ask is a free feature inside a Google search:
A third tool for finding interesting searches to target is a chrome extension called Keywords Everywhere. It gives you related searches (along with estimated search volume) to any Google search:
6. Add some flavor to your real estate video marketing.
Sending an email to your contacts to wish them a happy holiday likely won’t nurture your leads through the sales funnel like blog posts and promotional email messages do. Having said that, getting in the spirit for widely celebrated goings-on locally or nationally can humanize your brand.
Look at what the team at Modern Life Realty and ERA Justin Realty teams accomplished in the following recordings: The former takes a typical video marketing technique and turns it on its head by speaking to the camera with … well … whatever it is the featured gentleman is donning. Meanwhile, the latter hops on the “Call Me Maybe” bandwagon (which has long since been abandoned, but that’s another story) and capitalizes on its 15 minutes of fame.
youtube
Both took a chance, which is what you have to do from time to time with your real estate marketing strategy, as these tactics can often pay big dividends.
On top of these outlandish videos, consider conducting “man-on-the-street” interviews as well. The subjects of these videos don’t have to pertain to your business or even real estate in general. You could ask them philosophical questions, like what the meaning of life is, or ask them for their thoughts on a local college or professional sports team.
7. Develop a blog post or video series highlighting great area restaurants and entertainment.
Though property price, size, style, and features are the top considerations for the modern home buyer, living in a community with plentiful food and entertainment options is an increasingly important factor as well.
Yelp, TripAdvisor, and a wealth of other websites offer up reviews and details about movie theaters, restaurants, and similar businesses. But these portals have an issue: They can take forever to sort through just to find a well-written review or locate the right information. That’s where you, the all-knowing real estate agent, comes into play.
Develop a series of blog posts and/or videos that gives home buyers interested in your market the lowdown on the premier eateries and establishments in your area.
Finding these locales shouldn’t be a problem — simply think of your own favorite places to see a play or grab a bite with friends. Then, write down why you love those places and share your opinions with the world, like Realtor Michelle Calkins does in her blog post series and Realtor David Gonzalez does in the YouTube clip below.

8. Order unique business cards that stand out.
Business cards will never go out of style. You’ll always have in-person meetings and meet-ups with buyers, sellers, and other industry professionals, meaning it’s vital to have your information on hand to share with them. But a boring card that lists your business name and contact details in the smallest, plainest font won’t be memorable.
Take a risk and order some original business cards few have likely seen before. For instance, take a look at these fine examples featured on ViralNova that take the concept to the next level.
Research the best business card creation services out there and try to find one that offers to develop distinct versions like the one above that will get people to remember you long after your conversation with them ends. It might seem like a small item to focus so much of your attention on, but marketing for real estate agents continues to evolve — and become more competitive — by the day, so seemingly minor touches like this can keep you top-of-mind.
9. Incorporate your pet into some of your real estate listing photos.
Though not every home buyer will care for seeing a cute French bulldog or Grumpy Cat look-alike throughout a property they tour on your real estate website, chances are the occasional photo featuring pets won’t turn off consumers — and may even appeal to the buyers you’re looking for.
Use your pup or cat, or borrow one from a family member or friend, to feature in your listing shots. (Side note: If you somehow convince your canine pal to get in the relaxed pose as the one above, as featured in this Curbed article, you should take up a side business as a dog whisperer).
10. Use Instagram Stories
The key to building your brand on Instagram (and all social media platforms) is to become great at getting your followers to engage with you. Instagram Stories provide you a method for generating engagement and gaining brand recognition in the process.
One way to use Instagram Stories is to run a giveaway or contest. Direct followers to take screenshots as they listen in to your IG Live segment and direct message you those images. Choose a winner and give them something fun or helpful (a free book about qualifying for a loan, for example).
Cross pollinate your social media channels with the above method. Use it with your Facebook Lives or tweets and get your FB and Twitter followers to discover you on Instagram.
11. Devise a fun game to accompany awards shows or televised events
Ever see publications, bloggers, and brands share “drinking games” for events like the Academy Awards and the Super Bowl? Join in and create your own version of a game (of the drinking variety or something different is up to you). You could even create an interactive or printable bingo chart, of sorts, (see The Wall Street Journal’s interactive take below) for people to use during these events and see if your amusing insights and predictions come true. Brand this marketing collateral with your logo to get those who partake in your game to remember where they got it.
12. Post ideas and tips for homeowners, buyers, and sellers in Reddit.
Before you get all flustered wondering how Reddit can help your real estate marketing (or what Reddit even is), just know that the site isn’t simply the “front page of the internet,” as it promotes itself to be. There are endless amounts of “subreddit” forum boards on the site devoted to the most specific topics in the world — including homeownership, home buying, and home selling. Find ones in which people looking to buy or sell properties need sage wisdom and where homeowners are looking for advice regarding their mortgages or tax tips.
13. Create in-depth graphs, guides, charts, or maps.
The best real estate marketing plan includes plenty of graphics — but not just any will do. Taking time to hone your Photoshop skills (or building enough capital to hire a professional graphic designer) will allow you to add striking images, charts, graphs, and other visual elements to your blog and social media posts. When that time comes, ensure your graphics explain something of value to your audience, like the best parts of your local market.
The infographic below is a perfect example of this: Startup Seattle, an organization run by the City of Seattle’s Office of Economic Development to help foster a great environment for local startups, created this beginner’s guide that explains the current startup landscape in the Emerald City.
You can also be a bit humorous and develop less comprehensive graphics, like the one from Kind of Normal, via its Truth Facts comic. Home buyer and seller jokes may seem corny, but a laugh could lead to more clicks on your website and more leads in your contacts database.
14. Capitalize on the popularity of the latest internet memes.
You may think memes are simply another internet distraction — one that keeps you from completing important tasks, like segmenting real estate leads in your customer relationship management (CRM) database or scheduling meetings with prospective clients. On the contrary, though: Memes offer a (dare we say) fun real estate marketing tactic that is just now taking off with agents and can get some laughs from your audience.
The second you notice that a (politically correct and totally appropriate-for-work) meme is making the rounds online, try to come up with a way to use it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest (like Realtor Paul Fernandez’s board above), or even on your blog. A post titled “10 Feelings All Home Buyers Have During the Process” filled with memes could be your key to connecting with your targeted demographic.
15. Fabricate mock logos for your agency that replicate famous ones.
If you’re a big fan of a particular TV show, incorporate the famous typeface and/or imagery associated with one (or more) of the series with your own real estate logo. Make it timely by sharing an email with your list featuring your new, short-term branding and a message about when the new season premieres. There are several directions you could take this faux-go (get it?), so find a well-known pop culture design or symbol you can play around with for your own real estate marketing. Just be sure not to use it in too many promotional materials (the last thing you want is to get a cease-and-desist from billion-dollar entities).
16. Send Handwritten Notes
You have the opportunity to offer your prospects and clients a unique experience when they open a mailed envelope and discover a handwritten note inside.
Combine this strategy with the home valuation tool mentioned above. Send handwritten notes to any home valuation leads that failed to enter their email address.
17. Create a referral system
(Source)
While you build your online presence and leadflow, don’t forget about getting referrals from happy clients. One of the easiest ways to get referrals is to simply ask. Focus on providing your prospects a smooth transition throughout the entire home buying process and then ask them who they know.
Staying focused on providing ongoing tips and helpful content to email subscribers will foster more referrals. Send periodic content to your clients that provides home owner tips. This high touch follow-up keeps you “top of mind” when past customers hear that friends and family are looking to buy a home.

Develop a strong real estate agent bio and add it to your About Page.
When leads find your brand online, they should be able to get a strong sense of your professional qualifications and personality. Craft a real estate bio that leads will love, detailing your experiences, values, and interests, and put it prominently on the ‘About Me’ page of your website.
Get a professional headshot.
Source: Brendan Bartic
You are your brand, so your personal photograph should exude a friendly demeanor and elevate your brand with a professional look.
Hire a professional photographer who can provide tips on positioning, and who can make sure the final product is crisp and presentable in a variety of formats. If you’re low on funds early in your career, you can also opt to take one on your own that looks professional.
Develop a value proposition.
If you want to be a successful agent, you should not only have unique characteristics that set you apart from the competition, but you should be able to define what those unique features mean to your clients, leads, and community.
A short value proposition should exhibit your value and strengths as an agent. This statement will be reused in your marketing materials again and again.
Prepare a 30-second pitch to use when talking to new leads.
If you created a value proposition (above), you can think of a pitch as something very similar. But how things are read on paper doesn’t necessarily translate well to personal interactions.
In your initial conversations with leads, you should be able to make a brief but powerful statement that conveys you’re a knowledgeable agent who knows the market better than anyone. Once you’ve created your pitch, practice it out loud.
Get some swag printed with your branding.
Brand exposure in your area can help grow your business. Get items like calendars, pens, keychains, and notepads, and have your name, logo, and contact information printed on them to pass out to clients or at local events.
Send a request to clients to review your services online.
A company’s online star rating is the number one factor used by consumers to judge a business.
Online reviews have a prominent presence in search engines, have a large impact on your business’s reputation, and are a major source of lead referrals. Take control of your brand by requesting online reviews from good past clients, and make it easy for them to post in multiple places.
Ask your best former clients for testimonials.
Happy past clients are your best brand ambassadors. Their opinions and feedback on your site will give your brand social clout. Approach some of your best former clients and ask if they would offer feedback for a testimonial. Written is good, but testimonials with photos or video are even better.
Have a unique signature item or look.
Many agents have a distinctive look, whether it’s a color they wear often, a style of dress, a hat, or hairstyle (our VP of Marketing, Seth Price is known for his pink-hued pants). Develop a positive, distinctive factor for your personal brand that is recognizable and memorable.

Real Estate Website/Blog Ideas
Create a responsive website with multiple search features.
Online users are diverse: They access websites in a variety of ways (mobile is only increasing by the day), and they want to search for properties in different ways.
Make sure your website is responsive so it can adapt to any device, and that there are varying ways to search so they can seek out the ideal property types for them.
Set up squeeze pages or lead capture forms on your site for lead gen.
Lead capture forms are great ways to secure lead information so you can take communication into your hands. Set up squeeze pages after someone clicks on a property advertisement, or perhaps before someone gets all the information about a property on your site.
Additionally, you should also have optional lead capture forms on each website page for leads interested in getting more information. Forms should ask for name, phone number, email, and have an area where someone can pose a question.
Put your contact information on every page of your website.
With lead generation being one of your top priorities, your contact information shouldn’t be hidden or only on one page of your website. Prominently showcase your contact information on every page to make it easy for leads to reach out.
Include beautiful royalty-free local imagery.
When it comes to building a great online experience for your website visitors, nothing does the job quite as well as local photography. Getting access to royalty-free images can be difficult, but use one of the many online and local resources to get great shots of your local area.
Give leads expense information and calculators.
Most clients have financial questions. Create a document you can give to leads to help them calculate their expenses, before, during, and after a sale.
Use calls to action to increase user engagement.
Most people place calls to action at the end of a blog post, but you should use them in other areas of your site as well:
sidebar prompts to sign up for your newsletters
a homepage area asking folks to get in touch with you
or at the top of lead capture forms so folks can get more information on a property
Effective calls to action include enticing copy that get a user to take action on your site.
Add testimonials to your homepage.
(Source)
Once you’ve requested testimonials from your happiest and most vocal clients, showcase them on your homepage to leverage the social proof they provide.
Add social sharing buttons to your site.
Social sharing is a huge part of generating referral traffic and building brand recognition online. This process should be easy for your website visitors so anyone can click them and share your content quickly with minimal effort. Many website themes carry these as standard, or you can opt to install a plugin for your site.
Write and publish content on your blog regularly.
Source: Pixabay
Successful inbound marketing starts with consistent content creation. This enhances your search engine optimization, generates traffic, and gives real value to your clients.
Consistency is crucial in blogging: You should expect to publish between 2–5 blog posts per week on your market, listings, area details, and real estate statistics. See these 101 blog post ideas for inspiration.
Develop guides for buyers and sellers.
Nearly every lead you encounter is going to have lots of questions about buying or selling, which means you’re probably answering similar questions over and over and scrambling to find resources that might help them.
Create your own downloadable or printable guides you can give to leads that include lots of information about processes and expectations.
Vary post types.
Not every piece of content has to be a long-form piece. In fact, most readers love variety. Create a mix of written blogs, ebooks, infographics, videos, photos, lists, etc.
Curate content from other sources to include on your site.
Not every piece of content on your site has to be completely original. Effectively curating content from other sites, crediting the original source, and adding your own perspective makes content creation simple and quick.
Create multiple websites.
While you may already have a real estate website, many successful agents representing large geographic areas or many properties create multiple websites, with each covering specific niche areas of the market so they can target the needs of specific leads.
Use analytics to drive your marketing.
Whether it’s a piece of content that gets high traffic, a listing that gets high time-on-site statistics, or an influx in referrals from a particular blogger, monitor your website analytics and visitor behavior to determine where to focus your marketing.

Real Estate Social Media Ideas
Setting up social pages.
Source: Pixabay
Your brand should have a strong presence on social media, as these are a major driver of successful marketing campaigns and referral traffic.
Even if you don’t currently use all of them, it’s good practice to secure usernames on every platform in case you choose to use them later, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, YouTube, SlideShare, Foursquare and Instagram. If possible, use the same account name across all platforms.
Create custom social media bios for each platform.
Every social media site is unique: Their users interact differently and expect different types of personality (think a hilarious video on Facebook versus a career advice article on LinkedIn).
Additionally, each platform gives you different amounts of space to write a bio. Write social media bios that stand out on each platform but still sound consistent across all your social media channels.
Invite friends and family to like your pages or follow you.
Every page starts with zero, so allow your personal network to give your online social brands a boost.
Invite friends, family, colleagues, and past clients to like or follow your professional pages so you can build an immediate following (and so they can see and share what you post).
Add social media retargeting tags to your website
(Source)
Since you know that most visitors to your site won’t convert to customers immediately, it’s important to use retargeting. This also applies to email leads who don’t convert right away.
Retargeting is a method where you place a piece of code, called a pixel, on your web pages. This then allows you to “retarget”, or “remarket” to those people across different social media platforms.
For example, a Facebook pixel on your site allows you to place an ad in front of those visitors the next time they go on Facebook. You can do the same with other channels like Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn.
This marketing method lets you re-engage prospects no matter where they go. It builds your brand and creates awareness about your services each time a past site visitor sees your offerings.
Post regularly on each social media platform.
Social media is only as effective as how it’s used.
Successful agents using social media know it takes a consistent posting to build an audience that will engage with you. This means posting almost daily on your core social media sites.
Use our post to learn more about what types of content work best on each social site.
Include social follow buttons on your website.
You should make it more than easy for folks to find and follow your social media accounts. Whether it’s in your header, footer, or sidebar, make sure your icons are prominent on the page.
Showcase your savvy with video.
youtube
Video specials that offer your real estate knowledge, advice to buyers and sellers, or give in-depth previews of listings can deliver a major return on your marketing.
Additionally, optimizing your YouTube videos can increase the SEO of your content.
Get a social media scheduler.
Being an avid poster on social media doesn’t have to mean being glued to your computer every minute of the day. Many posts, like blog posts, announcements, property details, and general advice can be scheduled in advance using automated systems like Hootsuite, Buffer, or Edgar.
Generate slideshows.
Multimedia presentations produced from content on your website can build readership from audiences who prefer visuals to plain text. Publishing slideshows on platforms like SlideShare puts your content in front of potentially thousands of users.
Join a Twitter discussion (or run your own).
Twitter is a great platform to engage with other professionals or leads. Follow major real estate–related topics by searching relevant hashtags and offer thoughts or pose questions.
You can also host your own Twitter chat, in which case you’ll need to advertise it to your leads via email and social media, letting them know how to engage with you during that time to get their questions answered.
Develop or join groups, and start discussions there to build thought leadership.
Many discussions and coalitions are built within social media groups. Join some to build your network, or create your own to build a resource where you can offer advice.
Run a contest through social media.
Contests can be an effective way to generate leads. Use social media to host a contest, and offer a prize, like a gift card to a local business or a free consultation.
Publish new, original thoughtful articles on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn now allows anyone to create thoughtful articles in their publisher platform. Using this platform can get your thoughts in front of thousands of readers.

Write your advertisement copy.
While the length and scope of your copy will depend on platform, most ads contain a value proposition and call to action. Write these early and give yourself a few options to test against each other.
Choose a vendor to set up campaigns for you.
Setting up, monitoring, and tracking advertising campaigns takes time and lots of advertising savvy.
Agents who want to maximize the impact of their ads should work with a reputable company where they can have a human oversee their campaigns and provide guidance on how they are performing.
Creating an ad budget.

Buy listings on Zillow
Zillow gets over 39 million visitors per month:
Their Zillow Premier Agent program allows you to advertise and show up for local Trulia and Zillow listings. Buy your own listings and take advantage of the traffic already flowing to this massive site.
Use social media.
(Source)
Social media advertising can put your message in front of targeted users. Major networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn offer options to put your message in front of their large audiences.
Develop captivating graphics for ads.
The strongest ads have visual elements to draw users in. Create custom photos or video to pair with your ads and maximize their potential.
Advertise in high-audience newsletters.
There are popular consumer-facing real estate brands that send out regular newsletters. Advertising there can put your ad in front of thousands of readers, but it’s best to go with hyper-local newsletters.
Create a dedicated landing page connected to your ad.
If you want to increase lead generation from your ad, a click should lead to a landing page where you provide more value to your lead (based on the content of the original ad), as well as a lead capture form.
Create custom media around featured properties.
For featured listings, create custom images, graphics, and video to advertise the best aspects of a specific property.
Targeted video advertising of single properties.
Target specific users with YouTube advertising by showcasing captivating video of single properties.
Layer on retargeting across key channels
Identify the social media channels most important to your business and re-engage your warm audience. For example, target non-converting website visitors the next time they visit Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or Instagram.

Real Estate SEO
Set up a Google My Business page
Google My Business allows you to manage and control how your real estate business appears in Google Search and Maps listings.
Filling out your NAP (name, address and phone number) profile completely helps you show up properly in Google’s 3-pack map listing:
The reason you want your agency to show up in the 3-pack is because searchers pay attention to the visual aspect of the:
map
ratings
prominent website and directions links
the Call button on mobile devices
Getting your site listed in this top 3 listing area improves your opportunities to attract quality local leads.
Submit site to major aggregators
Much of the information spread throughout the local search ecosystem is handled by the major data aggregators. Localeze, Factual, Acxiom and Infogroup are the four major aggregators that publish local business information to social media, search engines, directories and review websites.
Submitting your information to these aggregators increases your chances that Google and other search engines take your business seriously. You will gain a competitive advantage when you’ve listed your agency correctly, while other local real estate agents and brokers have failed to do so.
Ensure consistent NAP across all online properties
Employ a consistent approach when filling out company information at the major aggregators or directories. A large part to increasing your local search rankings is to ensure that every listing is consistent with the next.
For example, each listing should have your business name, address, phone number and website listed exactly the same. This prevents duplicate listings and avoids confusion as search engine algorithms decide how to rank your business.
More specifically, any online property that lists your NAP is called a citation. Google and Bing consider NAP inconsistencies across citations as a negative search signal. If your business has 3 similar listings inside one directory, for example, search engines don’t know which one is accurate.
This creates doubt within the algorithm regarding how trustworthy the business is. The result is a lower search ranking.
When you consider that Google’s search market share is close to 90%, you want to make sure you do everything possible to increase your presence there:

Set up schema
Schema allows you to mark up elements on your site in a way that helps Google understand what the data means. Through schema markups, you gain the ability to tell Google how to attractively present your information.
For example, take a look at how you can list your upcoming open house directly in the search results and ask yourself about the quality of leadflow that results from this marketing method:
Learn more about schema in our Ultimate Real Estate SEO Guide.
Conduct keyword research
Your real estate marketing campaign should include a comprehensive plan for taking advantage of keyword searches used by future site visitors. There are 3 basic types of real estate keywords to research and use:
Primary (ex, newport beach homes)
Secondary (ex, orange county real estate)
Long-tail (ex, tips for buying real estate in costa mesa)
These areas are further segmented in terms of:
buyer intent (realtor near me, santa ana houses for sale, etc)
type of sale (luxury vs foreclosure)
property type (house vs condo)
location (oceanfront vs lake)
Information gathering stage (do I need a realtor, house buying tips, etc)
Of course, you want to attract qualified prospects looking to buy now. Don’t underestimate the power of attracting site leads who are in the information gathering stage, however. Warm these prospects up, get them to trust you and then benefit when they decide now is the time to start looking to buy their next piece of real estate.
Several tools exist to help you research your next set of real estate keywords:
Ahrefs (paid tool)
Ubersuggest (free tool)
Answer the Public (free tool)
Build local landing pages
A real estate landing page is a single page on your site that allows you to speak to a specific segment of your target market.
For example, if you’re targeting a keyword such as “guide to buying Phoenix real estate”, you’ll get far more leads pointing your visitors to a landing page offering a free guide for buying real estate in Phoenix than pointing them to a generic home page.
Since multiple landing pages causes a 120% increase in leadflow, it’s important to learn how to use the various real estate landing page methods.
Collect reviews on major third party review sites
There is a direct correlation between the number of reviews your agency collects and your local search rankings. In fact, ranking signals account for 15.44% of Google’s local search rankings:
Source: chatmeter.com
Your interaction with reviews is vital. Google states specifically on their Google My Business help page that they not only pay attention to positive reviews when it comes to ranking sites, but that your interaction with reviewers is a factor.
Build local backlinks
Increasing the number of other sites linking to your real estate website will increase your search rankings:

The reason for this is that more incoming links to your website improves your domain authority and thus, overall keyword rankings across your entire site.

Real Estate Email Marketing Ideas
Create an email signature with essential details.
Your email signature should include your full name, phone number, email address, and website address that links directly to your site. Not only is this an easy way to provide your information, it also ensures that if your email is forwarded, the recipient will see all of your brand details as well.
Set up email sign-up forms on your site to grow your recipient list.
You can only get a good return on your investment in email if you have a substantial recipient list. Use on-site sign-up forms with effective calls to action to get readers to sign up.
Set up autoresponders for thank-yous when not immediately available.
Whether it’s late at night or you’re away at a conference, set up autoresponder messages to let clients and leads know you’re not immediately available but that you’ll get back to them as soon as possible.
The same goes for messages to those who download a resource from your site or RSVP to an event.
Construct responsive email templates that look good on every device.
Email templates come in all shapes and sizes, but you should be using a newsletter template with responsive design and clean layout.
Segment your email list.
(Source)
If you want to give very personal experiences to your leads, segment your email list based on client personas and needs. Then, target communications with details pertinent to each client.
Personalize emails.
Including a recipient’s name and other details from your interactions can make emails feel more personal and will deepen their trust.
Use storytelling and imagery to increase engagement.
Include effective storytelling elements and videos or images to increase click-through and conversion rates for your emails.
Add social media accounts and share buttons to your emails.
Increase cross-platform engagement by encouraging users to share your email content directly on their social media accounts with share buttons placed in your email. Use a modern template to get these features.
Adapt your email calls to action based on needs.
Use your list segmentation and lead tracking to figure out the best call to action to offer each lead as a next step, whether that’s getting new leads to sign up for your newsletter or getting a client close to sale to download a closing checklist.
Develop an email course for leads.
Your leads are likely facing similar roadblocks or questions. Increase email engagement by offering an exclusive email course to go over various real estate issues, offering a new tip each day or week.
Offline Real Estate Marketing Ideas
Establish partnerships with local area businesses.

Develop relationships with local businesses and request to put your real estate cards or listing information at their desk or bulletin board.
Sponsor local events.
Local events, churches, schools, and sports events are constantly seeking sponsors. Look into fees in exchange for brand advertising on booklets, t-shirts, banners, flyers, etc.
Host free seminars on topics concerning buyers or sellers in your area.
Don’t just offer value to locals when you have a listing on the market. Find areas to host informal sessions to offer your knowledge and advice to locals. Use a sign-in sheet to collect information so you can follow up with attendees after.
Advertise your business and listings in local media.
Advertise your brand in local media like newspapers, magazines, radio, television, etc. to get your messaging in front of local leads.
Take local sponsorships to the next level.
Be creative with local sponsorship opportunities: Sponsor the coffee mugs at your local coffee shop, the golf tee boxes at a golf club, or a stand at your local farmers market.
Run an open house.
Source: Pixabay
Develop open houses where you can interact closely with local leads and provide intimate walk-throughs.
Make sure the house is staged well, and provide lots of snacks, packets about the property, and free swag with your company logo. Collect information via an open house sign-in sheet and follow up with leads the day after your event.
Use custom banners, balloons, and signs to advertise your open house.
Build brand recognition every time you host an open house by providing signage and other extras. Go the extra mile by putting your brand name or logo on them.
Create a physical high-quality mailer.
Mailers can help get listings and your brand in the hands of everyone in your community. Use high-gloss paper and sophisticated design to generate premier real estate mailers for your area.
Write a consistent column for your local media.
A regular column in your local newspaper, magazine, or online blog will help you present your knowledge to a local audience and build recognition in your community. If you’re a better talker, add your thoughts to a regular radio show.
Attend local events and join local meetup groups and associations.
Being a force in your local community means showing up in places where you can build real face-to-face relationships. Use local groups, festivals, or meetings to grow your contact base.
Real Estate Video Marketing Tips and Ideas
Interview happy customers
youtube
Word of mouth recommendations are a powerful way to help prospects understand your value. Take the time to interview past customers and allow their words to do the heavy lifting when it comes to pointing out the advantages of working with you specifically.
Don’t forget to expand your interviews beyond past clients. Interview home inspectors, mortgage brokers, construction company owners and other people you work with throughout the entire process of a home sale.
This is your opportunity to show your prospects the positive way everyone you work with looks upon you.
Shoot video tours of all listings
youtube
Showing is always better than telling. Using listing videos to showcase the properties you have for sale is one of the most effective ways to help prospects see exactly what each property offers them.
This is a way to get prospects motivated to elevate their relationship with you and schedule phone and in-person meetings.
Publish home/buyer educational videos
youtube
Educational videos that offer real estate buyers advice are a way to establish credibility. This is a real estate marketing idea that reveals your expertise and shows prospects how much you’re interested in educating them on the advantages and pitfalls involved with their purchase decisions.
Focus in on mortgage options, how to save for a down payment, tax advantages to owning a home, the importance of home inspections and other similar topics you know your buyers will benefit from learning about.
Record neighborhood community videos
youtube
Create videos that showcase the neighborhood and community atmosphere around the homes you sell. Your prospects want to know they’re moving into a safe area with excellent schools, parks and surrounding neighborhoods.
Showcase other homes, businesses, developments, restaurants, shopping areas and other neighborhood features that help your buyers understand what type of community they’re potentially moving into.
Promote helpful how-to videos
youtube
Use helpful “how-to” video content to teach prospects step-by-step ways to solve challenges or realize important concepts you know they should understand throughout the buying experience.
For example, a how-to video that walks a prospect through the process for selecting their realtor goes a long way in getting them to see you as the perfect choice.
Add videos to email drip series
Don’t forget to include your video content inside your email follow-up sequences. Create a welcome drip series so that new subscribers receive videos along with your written content.
Use the videos discussed above to help subscribers learn about your listings, your community and what past happy clients have to say about working with you.
Use video annotations to drive website traffic
Take advantage of YouTube’s annotations feature to encourage viewers to watch your other videos or to opt-in to your email newsletter.
Promote videos across social media channels
It’s important to combine all of your social media platforms into one synergistic real estate marketing campaign. Avoid the tendency to create videos and use YouTube as the only distribution channel.
Instead, take that content and distribute across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and any other social channel you decide to use inside your marketing efforts.
Bonus resource: Visit our ultimate guide on video marketing for more details on the above techniques.
Real Estate Marketing Plan
It’s not all about tactics. You need to have a solid plan.
WHO are we marketing to?
WHERE do they hang out online?
WHAT message do we use to capture leads?
HOW do we close them?
Set up a simple framework that will drive the entire marketing plan.
Set clear goals
Identify which objectives you’ll work to achieve. Create a plan and understand what types of habits you might need to grow into.
Will you measure the number of sales per month? How many new leads generated each month? Ask yourself which marketing strategy will help you accomplish each goal.
Use activity goals, too. For example, hone in on a specific number of calls to make each day. You’ll experience ups and downs when marketing your real estate business. Measuring activity helps ensure that you’ll continue working hard when results haven’t shown themselves yet.
Identify your target customer
(Source)
Marketing always works best when its messaging is focused on a specific segment of your overall market. For example, your marketing will need to speak one way to investors and an entirely different way if your target customers are first time home buyers.
Establish your unique selling proposition
Figuring out your unique selling proposition (USP) identifies how to set yourself apart from other real estate agents.
Ask yourself what makes you unique. What do you bring to the table that they don’t?
Is it your experience?
Your personality?
Your knowledge of the area?
Or something else?
How does your USP provide value to your customers and encourage them to work with you?
Choose marketing channels to reach audience
Decide which marketing channels to use. It’s impossible to find the time to use every social media platform available and optimize each channel effectively. Choose where your time will be used best.
Will you use a website? Will you blog often? Will you use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or other social media option? Select the marketing channels that make the most sense based on your personality and other skill-sets.
Define a lead nurturing strategy
75% of leads are not ready to buy.
Warm up email leads by periodically sending them information that builds trust and reveals your expertise. Send out new blog posts to your newsletter list. Provide your subscribers with neighborhood updates, real estate market trends, how-to videos, information about how to qualify for a loan, walk-through videos of your latest listings, etc.
Select tools to implement the plan
Make a list of the tools needed to put your real estate marketing plan into action. Determine your email service provider, project management software, event software, website creation software and other brand building tools.
Measure performance
Define precise metrics to measure achievement with. Use goals that easily tell you whether you’ve hit the mark within specific timeframes.
Don’t write, “I will increase my lead flow”.
Instead, create a goal that says, “I will generate 500 new email subscribers in the month of June.” You will know for sure at the end of the month whether 500 new leads were generated or not.
Ready. Set. Market.
As you can see, there are many ways to market your real estate business.
Take your time to identify which strategies make the most sense for you and then create your foundation. Start with the steps that build off of assets you already have in place. For example, if you have a large Facebook following already, look for tips above that help you maximize that audience.
Then, move into other areas that logically build your web presence larger. It’s easy to become overwhelmed. The key is to plan out the long-term strategy and then start implementing that plan step-by-step each week.
Finally, make sure all of your real estate strategies revolve around your website. Your website is your “home” on the Internet. It’s the place where most lead flow and business will come from.
Build your brand. Grow your traffic. Enjoy a steady increase in revenue from your real estate business.
