realizing that i’m a smart and capable person who can do anything i put my mind to has been very healing for me, but it’s also a bit chaotic because i now realize how many specialized skills i find interesting and would probably be very good at if i dedicated enough time to it… what if i committed myself to recreationally studying the law… and bird genetics…
#i’m actually just about to start a law class so my jury duty had good timing#but i was also thinking about how much better of a juror i would be if i was familiar with all of the laws#it would ALSO make me a better park manager which is my ultimate career goal#bird genetics is less essential but is also VERY interesting so i might look into it#just like. realizing there is literally NO limit to what i can dedicate years of study to throughout my life is WILD…#and i have so much TIME#my 20s got very gummed up by this bachelor’s degree nonsense and then all the professional certifications i’m planning to get#but once that’s out of the way - the sky’s the limit!#my 30s and 40s and 50s are for doing whatever the hell i want!!!!!#and my 60s and beyond are for doing whatever the hell i want x100 bc i will be RETIREDDDDDDD#by then we’ll have sorted out this passport shit so i’m gonna TRAVEL#which gives me plenty of time to learn the basics of as many languages as i can#becoming fluent in another language someday would be great - but learning the basic vocab and grammar for a bunch of them is more practical#i can always learn more later when it’s specifically relevant!

That moment when you have to let people be wrong about you because correcting them would make you seem like an unbearable show-off
I was at a bookstore with a friend the other day and I was looking at a book in German that I was interested in buying, but then I saw that it was a translation and had originally been written in French
I commented idly to my friend "Sometimes I don't buy a book because it's a translation and I always prefer to read in the original language when possible" and she said in an agreeing-with-me way, "Yeah it would make more sense to read it in English"
and I realized she assumed I meant English when I said "original language"
but I couldn't bring myself to say "Yeah, or French or Dutch or Spanish or Italian or Portuguese or one of the other languages I read..." because like. who says that kind of thing.
#it's odd but i've suddenly been noticing a lot of people underestimating me lately#like i told a friend i was studying compsci/programming#and she started sending me like... links to absolute beginner 'how to start learning to code' resources#which of course is very sweet and i really appreciate her supportiveness!#so i certainly don't want to say 'lol i passed that point 10 years ago but thanks'#or my friends know perfectly well that i'm a language professional and have spent time studying many languages#but somehow they don't seem to make the connection that that translates into having actual abilities?#like i can piece together the meaning of a sentence in russian or chinese and they'll go 'wtf' like i'm a wizard or something#or i've mentioned a few times that i read for fun in various languages but that seems to just go in one ear and out the other for most folk#and they still can't conceive that i would read a WHOLE BOOK in a language that's not german or english#these are just two examples but i've seen it happen with several other things too#and i'm just... not sure how normal people handle this sort of thing?#how do you let your friends know what you're capable of without coming across as an arrogant prick#i'm not seeking approbation and so i don't tend to boast#but i think maybe i err too hard in the opposite direction?#maybe i've been accidentally implying all these years that i'm Very Amateur in all my interests/hobbies#i don't know how to strike a reasonable balance#but it does feel kind of. weirdly alienating. to suddenly realize most of my friends really don't Know me in this way#cosmo gyres#personal#tag rant#i guess what annoys me is that i'm very careful not to do this to others#if someone tells me about a certain interest or hobby of theirs i assume by default that they must know So Much about it#and if i dare to send them or suggest them anything i always preface it with 'you probably already know this but...'#or 'this may well be something that's painfully obvious to someone with your expertise but...'#and i would try to never make any statement or suggestion that implies i think they're at a low level in [whatever that thing is]#so it bothers me a bit when other people don't take the same consideration. i guess.#(not enough to do anything about it beyond blogging with mild annoyance. but hey)

I feel like fandom right now has a bit of a gripe with characters talking "like they're trying to get a good grade in therapy" in fics. Which is fair, it can definitely feel out of place. However before we generalize please consider that some of my blorbos absolutely do, in fact, want a high grade in therapy (derogatory)
#modern au xiyao would BOTH use therapyspeak. albeit for different reasons.#xichen has bought into it. meng yao meanwhile learned how to lie to mental health professionals when he was 8 years old.#he knows the language. he can outplay the player. he has never been honest to a therapist in HIS LIFE you can't fucking catch him.#and he will use this knowledge in his daily life too. da-ge you're making him do too much emotional labor :(#nmj gets armchair diagnosed with like half the dsm-5. some of them aren't even wrong.#fandom#fanfiction

Duolingo drives me insane, I'm pronouncing it just like I'm supposed to buy because I say it like a word it says it's wrong?? Like "ima nan-ji desu ka" is so easy to say (for me, I've known it for like a year already) but I say it properly and I don't slowly say it letter by letter so it says wrong. I know I'm saying it right. If you're trying to teach a language why would you stop someone knowing it properly?? It's not teaching you how to say it, it's showing what the letters can sound like
#“ii-ma... nann-- ji.. de-suu kaa??” and it#will be like “yeah i GUESS” and then you say it right and itll say you're wrong#i have a tutor who is a japanese lady who lived in japan for years and became a professional language teacher. she says i know how to say it#and i have nothing but faith in her (#(i love her sm shes been teaching me for like a year? actually longer than that butbi dont rlly know#)#kept accidentally hitting the comma and separating tags but i cba to fic it sorry#*fix#duolingo#learning japanese#fuck duolingo

"my education is my highest priority" everything returns to vocaloid
#delete later#shitpost#vocaloid#?? idk i might keep it up. yes ik turning off rbs is a thing now technically but i always keep forgetting and also naaaah.#i might go edit proper tags in later just bc i dont this to show up in main pages but i needdddddd the organization on here#i made this a while back procrastinating on a linguistics reading and then never posted it#AND THE CIRCLE IS COMPLETE BC IM POSTING IT NOW WHILE PROCRASTINATING ON ANOTHER LINGUISTICS READING LMAOO#dudeee i gotta lock in. oh my god. its so bad up in here triple assault. i cant focus on SHIT. WHY DO I ALWAYS GET IDEAS WHEN IM BUSY AHGHH#this might be revealing a bit too much info but pls this is legit what happened LMAOO 😭🥴#we're starting ipa alphabet stuff now and im like 'hey i already know you...' from phoneme fuckery ive had to do for voca shitposts#knowing linguistics is cool cause u get to dissect what makes languages work and i thought that'd be genuinely helpful for things#like i plan to do more english/spanish translation work specifically so yuh. but also I KNOW internally in my heart...#despite trying to give the professional justifications I KNOW my stupid ass is secretly just absorbing all this knowledge for voca purposes#my brand of shitposting goes against the very origin of the word since 'shitposting' originally refers to very low effort low quality memes#so there's been a semantic shift in definition even outside of mine but i still think its really funny. i put a lot of genuine hard work#into making stupid little jokes to amuse primarily myself and maybe anyone else who finds it on the internet. so yea#no but genuinely though its unironically incredible how much shit i've learned direct or indirectly for vocaloid shitposting purposes#singing robot pendejadas

Can you explain the "fot" thing please? I'm confused 😢
aw sure! would have been easier if i knew how much you know about thai, but i'll just assume you don't know anything.
so, fourth's name is โฟร์ท, ford's name is ฟอร์ด, and force's name is ฟอส.
first, we get ร์ in fourth and ford's names out of the way - that is basically the sound 'r'* but the sign above it means it's not pronounced. the thai spelling of force's name doesn't have an 'r' in the first place. so there are no actual 'r's in the pronunciation of any of the names.
*it's actually a rolling 'r', not the 'r' you're used to in english, but in this case it really doesn't matter
ฟ is the 'f' in all of the names.
now, here's the kicker: a lot of thai consonants in the final position do not make the same sound they do in the initial position.
just in case, i'll clarify that the initial/final positions are in relation to syllables. for example, in the syllable "syl", 's' is in the initial position and 'l' is in the final position.
the final letter of fourth's name is ท, which is a 't' (aspirated) in the initial position, and it is pronounced as a t-stop* in the final position. the final letter of ford's name is ด, which is of course a 'd' in the initial position, but it is also pronounced as a t-stop in the final position. finally and perhaps most surprisingly to someone who doesn't know thai reading rules, the final letter of force's name ส, which is indeed an 's' in the initial position, is also pronounced as a t-stop in the final position.
*a t-stop is not exactly a t, but it sounds close to it
so that makes all three names sound like 'fot'.
technically, there is a difference between the vowels in ford and force's names vs fourth's name, but they are all essentially the sound 'o'. you do open your mouth more, when saying อ in ford and force's names, than you do when saying โ in fourth's name. and it is possible to distinguish them, of course, but the difference can seem rather subtle* when someone says the name quickly, essentially giving us the same 'fot' in all three cases.
*if someone has perfect hearing or whatever and can distinguish between อ and โ easily at all times then good for them. still no dice with ford and force though - phonetically, they are absolutely the same.
#yes i am learning this language and yes i cried when i was learning the alphabet thanks for asking#if there is too much technical lingo i'm sorry i tried my best without omitting stuff that felt important#professional deformation is real and i have a linguistics degree#anon#archer responds

What Are the Qualifications for a Data Scientist?
In today's data-driven world, the role of a data scientist has become one of the most coveted career paths. With businesses relying on data for decision-making, understanding customer behavior, and improving products, the demand for skilled professionals who can analyze, interpret, and extract value from data is at an all-time high. If you're wondering what qualifications are needed to become a successful data scientist, how DataCouncil can help you get there, and why a data science course in Pune is a great option, this blog has the answers.
The Key Qualifications for a Data Scientist
To succeed as a data scientist, a mix of technical skills, education, and hands-on experience is essential. Here are the core qualifications required:
1. Educational Background
A strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, or computer science is typically expected. Most data scientists hold at least a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields, with many pursuing higher education such as a master's or a Ph.D. A data science course in Pune with DataCouncil can bridge this gap, offering the academic and practical knowledge required for a strong start in the industry.
2. Proficiency in Programming Languages
Programming is at the heart of data science. You need to be comfortable with languages like Python, R, and SQL, which are widely used for data analysis, machine learning, and database management. A comprehensive data science course in Pune will teach these programming skills from scratch, ensuring you become proficient in coding for data science tasks.
3. Understanding of Machine Learning
Data scientists must have a solid grasp of machine learning techniques and algorithms such as regression, clustering, and decision trees. By enrolling in a DataCouncil course, you'll learn how to implement machine learning models to analyze data and make predictions, an essential qualification for landing a data science job.
4. Data Wrangling Skills
Raw data is often messy and unstructured, and a good data scientist needs to be adept at cleaning and processing data before it can be analyzed. DataCouncil's data science course in Pune includes practical training in tools like Pandas and Numpy for effective data wrangling, helping you develop a strong skill set in this critical area.
5. Statistical Knowledge
Statistical analysis forms the backbone of data science. Knowledge of probability, hypothesis testing, and statistical modeling allows data scientists to draw meaningful insights from data. A structured data science course in Pune offers the theoretical and practical aspects of statistics required to excel.
6. Communication and Data Visualization Skills
Being able to explain your findings in a clear and concise manner is crucial. Data scientists often need to communicate with non-technical stakeholders, making tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Matplotlib essential for creating insightful visualizations. DataCouncil’s data science course in Pune includes modules on data visualization, which can help you present data in a way that’s easy to understand.
7. Domain Knowledge
Apart from technical skills, understanding the industry you work in is a major asset. Whether it’s healthcare, finance, or e-commerce, knowing how data applies within your industry will set you apart from the competition. DataCouncil's data science course in Pune is designed to offer case studies from multiple industries, helping students gain domain-specific insights.

The Generalist Mindset: Why It’s Better to Be “Good Enough” at Everything
In a world that constantly pushes for specialization, being a generalist—a “jack of all trades”—can sometimes feel like swimming against the current. That old saying, “jack of all trades, master of none,” often gets thrown around as a warning against spreading yourself too thin. But people forget the full expression: “jack of all trades, master of none, but better than a master of one.” And that…
